MY TOYODA CORROLLA HAD TWO RECALLS ONE IS THE DEFECTIVE ECM WHICH CAUSES THE CAE TO BE UN RISK OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT CAN STALL WHILE DRIVING, THIS PROBLEMAS DAMAGED MY CAR TRANSMISIN AFTER THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED THE PART, THEY EITHER DIDNT FIXED IT OR REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART, NOW MY CAR HESITATES ABD CHEK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON DUE TO THE ECM AGAIN NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, I CONTACTES TOYOTA CORPORATE AND AL THEY DID WAS TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND I CONTACTES THE CEO AND HE REJECTED MY EMAILS, I WANT THIS TO BE REPORTES UN CASE ME ABD MY CHILD CAN GET INJURED DUE TO THAT DEFECT TOYOTA DIDNT FIXED PROPERLY.ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID PERFORMANCE. MY 18 OLD DAUGHTER JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM THIS MAN WHO HAD RESET THE CAR SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. AFTER US DRIVING IT HOME AND SERVER MILES LATER IT WENT OFF. HE SAID HE HAD FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION OIL AND THAT HIS MECHANIC HAD TOLD HIM TO JUST RESET IT AND IT WOULD BE FINE OBVIOUSLY IT WAS NOT FINE. WE TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC WHO IS A VERY HONEST MECHANIC HAD STATED THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE . HE PULLED UP SOME RECALLS AND INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON MODELS 04305 COROLLA UNFORTUNATELY THE VIN NUMBERS WERE 1ZZ -FE. I'M CALLING THE DEALERSHIPS AND ALL THEY CAN TELL ME IS THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN EXPIRED RECALL ON MY VEHICLE THEREFORE IT'S NO LONGER UNDER THE WARRANTY OF THE RECALL . THEY'RE NOT TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS THEY'RE JUST SAYING THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER . WITH ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE I'VE SEEN A LOT OF THIS ISSUE HAS ARRIVED WITH OTHER VIN NUMBERS BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN OPEN . AT THIS POINT I'M NOT EVEN TOO SURE WHAT TO DO OTHER THAN GET A NEW TRANSMISSION OR REBUILT THIS TRANSMISSION.

THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" AND THE ERROR CODE SHOWN WAS P0741. THE ERROR CODE SUGGESTS ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH CONVERTER SOLENOID. THIS ISSUES SEEMS TO BE COMMON ON THE 2005 COROLLA AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE TRANSMISSION DIES IMMEDIATELY WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR HIGH-SPEED ROAD.

IN APRIL 2012 I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE; THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ECM OF THE CAR. IT WAS REPLACED AND SEEMED FINE. IN JULY I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND ON MY CAR. I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED THE ISSUE. IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LINE. THEY DID A FLUSH ON ALL FLUIDS AND OTHER WORK. THE CAR WORKS GREAT. A WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE IS "CHOKING AND JERKING" WHEN I HIT THE GAS. SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. DEALERSHIP STATES IT IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THEY LOOK IT OVER AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR BEFORE. CAR WAS RUNNING WITH THE SHIFT IN THE PARK POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 OR 6 MINUTES. SUDDENLY IT STARTING ROLLING FAST IN REVERSE. I WAS STANDING NEXT TO THE CAR ON THE PHONE AND WHEN IT STARTED TO ROLL DIDN'T REALIZE HOW FAST IT WAS MOVING SO I TRIED TO JUMP IN TO STOP IT. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT IN TO THE CAR, FELL AND ROLLED UNDERNEATH IT AND THE FRONT TIRE RAN OVER THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY. THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FAST UNTIL IT CAME TO A HILL WHERE IT THEN TURNED AROUND IN TO THE FORWARD POSITION (NOT IN REVERSE) AND STARTED MOVING VERY SLOWLY UNTIL IT HIT A TREE AND STOPPED. I SUSTAINED A CRUSH INJURY TO MY RIGHT SIDE, FRACTURING ALL OF MY RIBS IN MULTIPLE PLACES (FLAIL CHEST). WAS TAKEN TO A LEVEL 1 TRAUMA HOSPITAL AND ADMITTED IN TO INTENSIVE CARE. SPENT A NUMBER OF WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL AND A 6 MONTH RECOVERY AT HOME. STILL HAVE OPEN FRACTURES. WHEN THE CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE POLICE IT WAS STILL IN PARK WITH THE IGNITION IN THE RUNNING POSITION ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. SOMETHING WENT SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT DAY. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE CODES WERE PRODUCED BY THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT A CASE MANAGER WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH THE CONTACT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

AT THE TIME OF CORRECTION, CAR WAS AT NEARLY 91,000 MILES - RESEARCH ECM ISSUES ONLINE, CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY STATED SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY HAD NO OBLIGATION TO COVER ECM REPAIR. RECALL RELEASED WITHIN ONE MONTH OF ECM REPAIR. LESS THAN 60 DAYS LATER, TOOK COROLLA BACK TO DEALERSHIP. CAR STILL EXPERIENCE HARSH SHIFTING. AFTER PAYING $225 FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, AND DEALER SHIFTING TRANSMISSION MANUALLY, THE DEALER STATED ECM WORKS FINE, TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT +$3K. RESEARCHED AND IDENTIFIED SIMILAR PROBLEM IN TOYOTA RAV4 - ECM FAILURE LED TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FILING COMPLAINT BECAUSE I THINK TOYOTA NEEDS TO PAY FOR MY NEW TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK AND A HALF LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN BEGAN TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED HER THEY BELIEVE THE AMPLIFIER WAS DRAINING POWER FROM THE BATTERY WHICH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE AMPLIFIER WAS REMOVED BY THE AUTHORIZED DEALER. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE IT CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT SHE WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURES CONTINUE TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,816 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,955.

DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT, STOPPED AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND USED HIS OBD2 READER AND FOUND OUT THE ISSUE, STILL HAVEN'T NOTICED MUCH OF AN ISSUE EXCEPT FOR THE SHARP HARSH SHIFTING FROM 1ST THRU 3RD UNLESS BABYING IT. SO I GO INTO THE DEALER WITH 94786MILES AND SEE WHAT'S THE ISSUE AND WHY SO MANY PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD YES ITS KNOWN A TSB HAS BEEN PUBLISHED, YES ITS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ANYONE ON OR AROUND THE ROAD DUE TO THE FACT IT COULD SHUT DOWN AT A MOMENTS NOTICE. BUT SINCE I AM PAST THE 80000 MI. WARRANTY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EXCEPT OFFER ME A 10% DISCOUNT AND PAY 693.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED, AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WILL BE PERFECT AGAIN, MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD TO RETURN MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT WHICH THE WARRANTY COVERS. I HAD TO THEN PLACE THE CAR BACK INTO 1ST GEAR AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALMOST GETTING HIT BY OTHER TRAFFIC AND STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A FULL INSPECTION. THERE WAS NOTHING VISIBLE UPON INSPECTION AND NO CURRENT NOISES AT THAT TIME SO I PROCEEDED TO GO AGAIN FIRST SHIFTING INTO 1ST GEAR THEN SECOND AND I STOPPED AT 3RD AND WENT STRAIGHT HOME. ABOUT ONE AND 1/2 MILES LATER IT STARTED MAKING ANOTHER NOISE SIMILAR TO THE FIRST, BUT IT WAS CONTINUOUS AND SO I PARKED THE CAR AT HOME AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY THEN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR(BEING THE TYPE THAT IT WAS) AND WHAT HAD HAPPENED IS A ROD IN THE ENGINE HAD BEEN SPUN. THEY SAID IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE AND I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND WRECKED THE CAR VERY EASILY. THEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE NATURE AND PRICE THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A FULL NEW ENGINE REPLACEMENT AND THAT WOULD BE UP TO $8K BECAUSE OF IT BEING A RARE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE PRICE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION AND ONLINE RESEARCH IT IS VERY COMMON WHILE DOWNSHIFTING THIS ENGINE THAT THEY SLIP A GEAR AND SPIN THE ROD MOSTLY IN THE #4 ROD AND NEED A NEW ENGINE FOR COMPLETE REPAIRS. ALSO IT WOULD VERY LIKELY CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN THUS PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THEY DO ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND THAT IT EXISTS, BUT WILL NOT DO THE REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE PRICE ISSUE. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THOUGH. I NOTICED AN ODD DISRUPTION IN NORMAL TRANSMISSION FUNCTION ON MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. I SUSPECTED IT WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE ENGINE COMPONENT . I WENT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ;THAT THE CAR WOULD STOP RUNNING WITHOUT REPLACING IT. ON INQUIRY I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT ON 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA'S. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE THE COMPONENT. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE ON JUNE 8,2010 (1-800-331-4331) CALL REFERENCE NUMBER: 1006081641 IT BECAME APPARENT THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE'S IN 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA'S. IF THE PHONE CALL IS PULLED BY THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY TRAFFIC ADMINISTRATION A WIDER PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULES MAY BECOME EVIDENT. I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. JUST RECENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SOON AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JUMP EVERY TIME THE CAR SHIFTED INTO A HIGHER GEAR. I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (NEW) AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE - WHICH I DID. ALTHOUGH THEY ADMITTED TO AND RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSE PEOPLE WHO HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLES. I HAD OVER THAT AMOUNT. MY MECHANIC SAID IF I WERE TO TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA GARAGE, THEY WOULD JUST HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TELLING ME ABOUT IT, RATHER THAN HAVE A RECALL. THAT IS THE WAY THEY CIRCUMVENT THE SYSTEM AND HAVE HIGH QUALITY NUMBERS. THEY FIX THINGS WHILE THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SINCE I DO ALL OF MY OWN MAINTENANCE - EXCEPT FOR MAJOR ITEMS - THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIX MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE ADDED TO THE EXPANDING FILE ON TOYOTA. HERE I REPORT AN ACCIDENT WHICH MAY BE CAUSED BY TOYOTA UNINTENDED ACCELERATE PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA SPORT ON JULY 09, 2004. WE DRIVE 2000-3000 MILES/ PER YEAR. AS WE BOUGHT 5 YEARS PRE-PAID MAINTENANCE, WE HAVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE WITH FAULKNER DEALER EVERY HALF YEAR UNTIL JULY 09, 2009. THERE HAS NO BIG PROBLEMS DURING THE FIRST 3-YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD EXCEPT ON AROUND SUMMER OF 2007, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND TOYOTA DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM WITHOUT CHARGE (WE'RE NOT SURE THE REPLACED COMPUTER NAME AND WE THINK THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE RECORD). THE WEATHER CONDITION IS LIGHT-MEDIUM RAIN WHILE OUR CAR ACCIDENT HAPPENED. WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED, MY 5-YEAR OLD SON AND I WERE IN THE CAR. THE ROAD SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MILES PER HOUR, I DROVE UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AT A LOCAL ROAD AND IT IS ABOUT 2-3 MILES DISTANCE TO OUR DESTINATION. I REMEMBERED THAT I REDUCED THE SPEED AROUND A CURVE TO TURN ON ANOTHER ROAD. SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD ROARING ENGINE SOUND CAME FROM INSIDE, EVEN I PRESSED AND PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I FEEL THAT I STEP ON THE AIR, IT DIDN'T HELP. THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED WITH THE SPEED I CAN'T CONTROL AND I LOST THE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, MY CAR WAS IN MALFUNCTION STATUS AND CRASHED TO THE RIGHT CURB AND THEN HIT THE BUSH WITH A HIGH SPEED AND TRAPPED IN WET MUD (THANK FOR GOD). THE ENGINE WAS STILL ROARING WITH A SCARED LOUD SOUND FOR MINUTES TILL I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TOOK OFF THE KEY. OUR CAR WAS DAMAGED SERIOUSLY BY THIS ACCIDENT, OUR CAR INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR MORE THAN $7,000 FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS DAMAGE AND I PAID $1,000 FOR THIS COLLISION. WE KEPT BOTH THE POLICE AND REPAIR RECORD IN CASE YOU REQUIRED. AT THAT TIME WE DIDN'T REALIZE THIS ACCIDENT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATE PROBLEM WHICH RECALLED . OUR 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA IS HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS SHIFTING (LURCHING AND STUCK GEARS), AND THE CAR IS NOW UNSAFE FOR US TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD (WE ARE LIKELY TO GET REAR-ENDED IF WE CONTINUE TO DRIVE). WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC AND BEEN INFORMED THAT WE HAVE A DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THIS PROBLEM IS DESCRIBED IN TOYOTA'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TC014-06. THERE IS AN 8YR/80K MILE WARRANTY ON THIS PART, BUT OUR CAR HAS OVER 100K MILES SO TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS DEFECT. I PURCHASED A 2005 4 DOOR TOYOTA COROLLA CE FROM A DEALER HERE IN PUERTO RICO. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW.
