I purchased a Toyota three years ago, immediately I complained about the brakes scrubbing and squeaky sounds, the dealer denied anything was wrong with the brakes. After paying the last payment the other day, now the brake pedal is stiff as a board and takes alot of pressure to stop, which is a safety hazzard to all. Also there have been no warning lights come on notification of any problems. I've also noticed Electrical problems like the dash lights going off and on the clock works when it takes a notion.
THE AIRBAG REPAIR BY TOYOTA OR THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT SHORT OUT (WIRE AT THE AIRBAG MODULE) AND CAUSED AN ENGINE FIRE.

ON MY THIRD CLOCK SWITCH IN MY STEERING COLUMN IT IS THE DEVICE THAT FEEDS POWER TO THE AIR BAG FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG IT SEEM THAT IF THE CAR DETECTS A SHORT OR INTERRUPTION IN THE ELECTRICAL LINE IT WILL LIGHT UP THE DASH LIGHT . FOR ME THIS HAS HAPPEN 3 TIME I AM AT 95,000. MILEAGE. REPLACING THE CLOCK SPRING SWITCH FIXES IT BUT THE PART IS NETHER A SWITCH OR A SPRING GO FIGURE. HOPE THIS HELPS

IN ADDITION, WHEN THE HEATING SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED, A BURNING ODOR EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE FROM THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE ENGINE LIGHT WON'T GO OUT THERE IS A ERROR READING OF P0031 ON THE O2 SENSOR BEEN REPLACE 7 TO 10 TIMES AND THE LIGHT STILL STAYS ON EVEN RESETTING.I HAVE PROBLEMS YEAR AFTER YEAR WITH MY BRAKES OVER ALL I LOST TOTAL TRUST IN TOYOTA COROLLA PLUS A LOT MORE PROBLEMS TOYOTA TAKES FOREVER TO SEND OUT THE RECALL LETTERS. WAS DRIVING WHEN AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH CAME ON, HAVE CHECKED FUSES, CLEANED ALL ELECTRICAL LEADS AND IT REMAINS ON, BEEN ON SIX MONTHS NOW. AIRBAG RECALL FIXED TODAY, TOLD DEALER TO LOOK AT LIGHT. ONCE FIXED DEALER SAID LIGHT STILL ON BECAUSE THE STEERING SPRING COIL IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAS CUT SOMETHING THAT TURNS THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON, COST TO FIX $500. I SAID LET THE LIGT STAY ON THEN, HE SAID IT COULD AFFECT AIRBAG, IT MIGHT NOT DEPLOY.

I ASSUMED THAT IT (THE AIRBAG) WOULD BE REPLACED AT TOYOTA'S EXPENSE, BECAUSE OF THERE MANY AIRBAG RECALLS. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, TOYOTA IS CLAIMING THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE AIRBAG RECALL LIST. OUR TOYOTA COROLLA 2006 HAD A SRS AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER?S AIRBAG MODULE IS ATTACHED TO A SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY WITH ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS THAT HAVE BECOME DAMAGED FROM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DAMAGE TO THE SPINAL WIRE CAUSED THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE WHICH MEANS THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SPINAL CORD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A SIMILAR ISSUE ON OTHER COROLLAS I BELIEVE THEY ARE YEARS 2009 AND 2010 AND SO I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO SINCE IT IS HAPPENING ON OUR VEHICLE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THE WIRING WAS BURNED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT, AND TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOT REPORT TO THE SCENE AND THE FIRE WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND SEAT. THE WIRING IN THE DOOR WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE EXACT REPAIR HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE TOYOTA 2006 COROLLA WHEN THE WINDOWS STOP WORKING, THEN THE LIGHTS BEGIN STOP WORKING SO SHE PARKED THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN SO SHE WAS ABLE TO GET SOMEONE WITH JUMPER CABLES TO START THE CAR. SHE CONTACTED PERFORMANCE TOYOTA WHO INSTRUCTED HER TO BRING THE CAR TO TOYOTA. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE CAR COMPUTER'S ECU UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE ECU WITH NO CHARGE SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY CHARGED ME $257.99 FOR A WIRE THAT HAD SHORTENED BEHIND THE DASH CAUSING THE FUSES TO BLOW. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER FAILURE BUT THEY DISAGREED. THEN ON JUNE 20, 2012 WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED BY PERFORMANCE COLLISION BODY SHOP THEY CONTACTED ME TO INFORM ME THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I TOWED IT TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AND THEY INFORM ME THAT THE ECU COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WILL SUBMIT A NEW COMPLAINT FOR THIS INCIDENT. *JS

THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE COMPUTER ECU UNIT FAILED. MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE COLLISION FOR SOME BODY WORK REPAIRS. THE BODY SHOP CALLED TO INFORM US THAT THEY COULDN'T COMPLETE THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED AAA WHO TOWED THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA. AFTER THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THE TECHNICIAN MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE ECU UNIT FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAD TO PAY $725.74 AND PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AGAIN REPLACED THE ECU UNIT. TOYOTA REPLACED THE INITIAL ECU ON AUGUST 25, 2008 ( I FILED A SEPARATE COMPLAINT) UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED TO TOYOTA THAT A COMPUTER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT ALL AND OUT OF ALL THE 7 CARS I'VE OWNED OVER THE PASS 40 YEARS THIS IS THE FIRST CAR THAT EVER HAD SO MANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. TOYOTA CLAIMED THAT THE ECU COMPUTERS DON'T LAST VERY LONG AND NEED TO BE REPLACED ABOUT EVERY 4 YEARS. I DON'T BELIEVE THESE ECU ARE QUALITY UNITS AND ARE DEFECTIVE. I'M HOPING TO GET MY MONEY REFUNDED. *JS

THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS MOUNTED IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK , HANGING DOWN SUBMERGED IN THE GAS. ONE OF THE POWER WIRES FROM THE PUMP ASSY. GOING TO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AT THE TOP MOUNTING PLATE OF THE PUMP, WAS BADLY BURNED AND MELTED CAUSING THE PUMP NOT TO WORK WHEN IT WARMED UP ALONG WITH THIS ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. REMEMBER THIS IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THIS COULD HAVE CREATED A SERIOUS EXPLOSION ! TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR "ECM" (ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE) PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH STALLING ENGINE, SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE CRANKS AND WILL NOT START. I THINK SOME OF THE "ECM " PROBLEMS COULD HAVE BEEN MIS-DIAGNOSED AND WERE THIS BURNT WIRE AND CONNECTOR FROM THE FUEL PUMP. ON TOP OF THAT THIS REPAIR COST ME APPROX. $1500.00 BUT MAYBE IT SAVED MY LIFE. FOR SAFETY REASONS ALONE , THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND RESOLVED. 1. RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA INDICATING THAT A SAFETY DEFECT EXISTS IN MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. I TOOK MY CAR TO SPRINGFIELD TOYOTA ON 2/22/2011. THEY REPLACED THE ECM AND NOW THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO TURN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT OFF , IT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $300 TO $400. THE DEALERSHIP LEFT THE ECM DISCONNECTED AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. 2. THE SERVICE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. THIS MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. 3. DEALERSHIP DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY THEM FOR THE DIAGNOSIS TIME. WITH THE OLD ECT I DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ECM REPLACED BASED ON THE LETTER FROM TOYOTA. DEALERSHIP KEPT THE OLD ECM AND REFUSED TO GIVE IT BACK TO ME NOR FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
APRIL 2010 - TACHOMETER STARTED 'JUMPING' AROUND. CEL WOULD ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF AND THE CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY ACT LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL AND ACTED SLUGGISH. JUNE 2010 - BROUGHT TO LOCAL SHOP THAT SAID IT MIGHT BE A COMPUTER ISSUE AND TO TAKE TO TOYOTA. TOOK TO TOYOTA, TOYOTA SAID THAT IT WAS JUST A BAD TACHOMETER AND THAT I COULD CHOOSE TO REPLACE IT. I DID NOT. CEL LIGHT CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF. VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES SHIFT VERY HARD OR SEEM TO HAVE TROUBLE. SEPTEMBER 2010 - THE VEHICLE ALMOST STALLED AT 45MPH WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO SWITCH GEARS (AUTO TRANSMISSION). WHEN GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE RPMS WOULD NOT GET OVER 1800 WHEN NORMALLY IT RUNS AROUND 2300 (AT 65MPH) WHEN I WOULD STEP ON BRAKE, RPMS WOULD DROP TO AROUND 1000 AND THEN TO THE POINT OF STALLING. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE RIGHT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR TO NOT HAVE IT STALL IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SOMETIMES AT A LIGHT, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE TO REV THE ENGINE. SOME DAYS THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE, OTHER TIMES IT IS VERY STRESSFUL TO DRIVE WHEN IT IS HAVING ISSUES. OCTOBER 2010 - RECEIVED RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) AND THAT PARTS WILL START TO BE COME AVAILABLE THE END OF NOVEMBER. CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE INITIAL DEALER DID NOT INSTALL THE COMPUTER CORRECTLY. THE DEALER CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,901

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING BUT I DID NOT NOTICE ANY ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CAR STARTED SHIFTING HARD WHEN I ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE CODE CAME BACK P2716: SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT/RANGE. I RESEARCHED THE CODE AND FOUND MANY FORUMS WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND THE PROBLEM BEING THE ECM. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND GAVE THEM THE INFORMATION I FOUND ON THE ISSUES. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND I SAID I NEEDED THE ECM REPLACED. THE CAR HAS 82,000 MILES AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR IS RUNNING CLOSE TO $900, THE REGIONAL TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE HAS OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST. I FEEL THIS IS UNFAIR AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A 2007 COROLLA THAT JUST TOOK HER CAR IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER THAT, IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 10 TRIES TO GET THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER AND THE CAR TO START ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO MOVE IT 50 FEET OR SO TO A SAFER AREA. ON 24 JUNE 2010 I DROVE 1331 MILES BACK FROM VIRGINIA WITH NO ISSUES. THE NEXT EVENING, MY PERMITTED 15 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA A MERE HALF MILE FROM OUR HOME WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SHUTTER AND LOSE POWER. WE PUSHED THE CAR HOME THE MILE AND PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR STARTED, RAN FOR ONE MINUTE, BOGGED AND DIED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED. I APPLIED A RENTED SCAN TOOL AND CAME BACK WITH A P0607 TROUBLE CODE WITH INDICATED A BAD ECU. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA AND WAS REPAIRED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ECU FOR $993.40. I AM OVER THE EMISSION WARRANTY OF 80,000 MILES PER THEIR TSB WITH 94,000, SO THIS IS OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS FRUSTRATING AS THE INTERNET IS LITTERED WITH STORIES OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS. I AM GLAD THAT I MADE IT HOME BEFORE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AND IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN LUCKY AS WELL. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND OCCURS WITH NO WARNING. THE SERVICE ATTENDANT TOLD ME MY CAR HAD A COMPUTER PROBLEM WHICH HAPPENED IN 2005 AND 2006 MODELS OF COROLLA. THEY DID SOME FIXES ON IT. WHEN I WAS PICKING IT UP, SETTLED THEIR EXORBITANT FEES AND WAIT ON THE SIDE FOR THE CAR, IT TOOK ME OVER 20 MINUTES TO WAIT. IT TURNED OUT THE CAR BROKE AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO WAIT ANOTHER 15 MINUTES SO THEY CAN FIX SOMETHING IN THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR. MY CONCERN IS, IF THEY KNEW THERE WERE SOME ISSUES WITH THEIR 2005 OR 2006 COROLLAS, THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED THE CUSTOMERS TO PREVENT DANGEROUS THINGS TO HAPPEN. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. ON 01-29-2010, I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA DOWN THE ROAD. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE STALLED. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I ENDED UP HAVING MY CAR TOWED TO TOYOTA OF EL CAJON WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A DEFECTIVE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE). THEY REPLACED THE ECM FOR $841.00 WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. AN ECM FAILING ON A NEW CAR AFTER 3 1/2 YEARS IS VERY UNUSUAL (THEY ARE ENGINEERED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR). I WENT ON LINE AND WAS STUNNED TO FIND THAT ECM FAILURES WERE A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FREQUENTLY FAILED ON 2006 AND SOME EARLIER TOYOTA COROLLAS. TOYOTA EVEN CHANGED/RE-ENGINEERED THE ECMS AFTER 2006 MODELS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY OF THESE ECMS HAVE FAILED NATION WIDE AND WHY NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED TOYOTA TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT THEY COULD DO AND THEY STATED THEY WERE AWARE THIS WAS A STANDARD PROBLEM BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS OVER 80,000 MILES THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE FULL PRICE TO FIX. I STATED THAT I FELT WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR THEY NEEDED TO INFORM ME THAT AFTER 80,000 MILES MY CAR HAD THE POTENTIAL TO SHUT DOWN AT ANYTIME. I CAN ASSURE YOU I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 30, 2009, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE DIAGNOSTICS RUN, WHICH INDICATED A FAULTY P2716 PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID "D" ELECTRICAL. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE COMPUTER REPLACED ($900) AND THAT THE CAR COULD SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE IN OPERATION IF I DID NOT. AFTER I HAD IT REPLACED, I LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET. TURNS OUT THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BASED ON A 9/2006 SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT CHOSE TO NOT ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE A 110 MILE ROUND TRIP COMMUTE DAILY AND AFTER READING HUNDREDS OF POSTING FROM OTHERS THAT HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM, I COUNT MYSELF LUCKY. MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE CAR STOP ON THEM GOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS LUCKY, BUT IT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT DEADLY. THERE ARE INCIDENTS OF ACCIDENTS OCCURRING DUE TO FAULTY P2716'S. TOYOTA WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM, YET REFUSES TO RECALL THIS PART SAYING THAT IT IS NOT A "SAFETY ISSUE." I PERSONALLY KNOW OF OTHER DRIVERS WHO HAVE INCURRED THE SAME PROBLEM IN THEIR VEHICLES. I ALSO WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE RESPONSE IS DIFFERENT IN CARS WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS WHAT WE OWN. KNOWING THE DETAILS OF THE CASE, THE COMPANY STILL REFUSED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE, EVEN THOUGH THE REPAIR CALLS FOR A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PART, AND THAT THE OLD PART IS DEFECTIVE. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, THERE WERE 4 VEHICLES AT A SMALL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN GRAND BLANC MICHIGAN WAITING FOR THIS SERVICE PART. IF THESE 4 VEHICLES ARE TAKEN AS A DATA SAMPLING, THERE MAY BE AS MANY AS 4 * 1400 DEALERSHIPS OR 5600 VEHICLES CURRENTLY AWAITING THIS SERVICE PART AND HAVE FAILED IN THE FIELD. ACCOUNTING FOR INDIVIDUAL DEALERSHIP BUSINESS VOLUME, MY ESTIMATION IS THAT THERE MAY BE AS MANY AT 8000 FIELD FAILURES OF THIS RELATIVELY SERIOUS FAILURE MODE JUST OVER THE LAST 3-4 WEEKS. MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA (LE) RANDOMLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, IT HAD TROUBLE RESTARTING. AS IT HAPPENED, WE WERE DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET AND NO ACCIDENT RESULTED. I AM CONCERNED HOWEVER, THAT IF THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE ON A HIGHWAY, THIS COULD BE A LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR. HOWEVER AFTER REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, LEARNED THAT THERE WAS ONLY A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE COMPUTER AND STARTING ISSUES. NO INCIDENT HAD BEEN REPORTED WHERE THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN REPLACED, BUT I STILL WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE ON 06-26-06. ON 02-05-07 VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT STILL DIDN'T START. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME TO GET A JUMP OFF BECAUSE IT WAS THE BATTERY DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER. I GOT A JUMP OFF AND IT STILL WOULD START. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I DID THAT AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE NEEDED ALL KEYS TO SEE IF IT WAS THE KEYS AND IT WASN'T. HE THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS AND IT WASN'T. THEN HE SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND I STILL HAVE TROUBLE CRANKING IT NOW. I WOULD TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, IT WOULD CRANK. BEFORE THIS INCIDENCE, IN JULY 2006, NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING AND THEY STILL DO NOW. THE ROTOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. EACH TIME I TAKE IT FOR SERVICING, I'M TOLD THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WITH NO RESPONSE. NOW I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. *JB

OCCASIONALLY, THE IGNITION DOES NOT TURN TO THE "START" POSITION. TO REMEDY THE SITUATION THE DRIVER USUALLY HAS TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MUCH EFFORT TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT. THEN THE IGNITION WILL EVENTUALLY TURN TO THE START POSITION AND THE AUTO WILL START. *NM

THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN BETWEEN 40-50MPH ON A SECONDARY ROAD. THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED ON AND OFF. THE CAR STALLED OUT IN A DRIVEWAY. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE CAME OUT. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR TO MOVE IT. IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WESTBURY TOYOTA WHERE THEY WROTE IT UP AS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR WAS INSPECTED BY AN INSPECTOR FOR THE COMPANY AND I WAS TOLD THAT A ROD WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE, CUTTING THE FUEL LINE CAUSING THE FIRE. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY DOWNSHIFTING (ON AN AUTOMATIC) AND WAS DRIVER ERROR, INVALIDATING THE WARRENTY. AT FIRST THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $13,000 TO FIX IT. THEN THEY OFFERED TO TAKE THE INSURANCE CHECK FOR $4,900 AND SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE WITH ME. THE LAST OFFER WAS TO GIVE THEM THE INSURANCE CHECK $1,000 AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A COMPERABLE CAR. I THEN ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO START VEHICLE AND IT STARTED. I DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND ADVISED THEM I DID NOT WANT A NEW VEHICLE THAT WAS NOT GOING TO START. THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD CHECK IT AGAIN AND TO LEAVE IT. THEY DID FURNISH ME WITH A CAR TO DRIVE IN THE MEANTIME. THEY CALLED ME WEDNESDAY, JAN. 4 TO ADVISE ME THEY HAD REPROGRAMMED THE KEYS AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR ME TO PICK UP. THEY WENT OUT TO START IT AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE CALLED ME BACK TO ADVISE ME OF SAME AND THEY WOULD CHECK IT FURTHER. THEY CALLED ME FRIDAY, JAN. 5 AND SAID THEY HAD PUT A NEW COMPUTER IN THE CAR AND I COULD PICK IT UP. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WENT OUT TO GET THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL CAME BACK AND SAID IT WOULD NOT START. I WAS SO UPSET AND WANTED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. I ADVISED HIM I DID NOT WANT THIS CAR, I JUST PURCHASED IT ON JANUARY 2, AND I REQUESTED THEY PUT ME IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. THAT, ALL I WANT IS A VEHICLE THAT WILL START AND RUN. THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY SIGNED THE CONTRACT. WELL, I DID NOT KNOW THE VEHICLE HAD A PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS. I WAS SO UPSET AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE SALES MANAGER. HE BASICALLY TOLD ME THE SAME. I TOLD HIM I DO NOT WANT THE VEHICLE, IT IS BRAND NEW AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. HE ADVISED I HAD ONLY 2 OPTIONS; LEAVE THE VEHICLE THERE AND THEY WOULD TRY TO REPAIR IT OR THEY WOULD CALL THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE REGARDING THE LEMON LAW. *JB
