Odometer Fraud. The contact's aunt purchased a 2007 Toyota Corolla. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 180,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 195,000.

I saw that there is a recall on some of these vehicles for losing power while driving. This had happened to my car a couple times
STARTED CAR THIS MORNING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO PARTS STORE AND HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND FOUND CODES (P2401, P043E, P043F, P2402, P2419) EVERYTHING I HAVE RESEARCHED COMES BACK TO EVAP CANISTER FAILURE, AND POSSIBLE WIRING FAILURE. MORE RESEARCH SHOWS THESE ISSUES CAUSING PEOPLE GETTING STRANDED AND OTHERS WITH NO PROBLEM OTHER THEN LIGHT, AND OTHERS WITH A STRONG GAS SMELL. IF THIS CAUSES A GAS SMELL, THEN A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IS FORMED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PLAZA TOYOTA (2721 NOSTRAND AVE, BROOKLYN, NY) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS DEALER DOCUMENTED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,074.

THE DEALER PRODUCED A FAILURE CODE DETECTED FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH LOCK UP AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY BE REPLACED. ON FEBRUARY 24, 2012, AN ECM RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. STARTED CAR IN DECEMBER 2015, TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. DASH LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON AUTOMATICALLY AS THEY ALWAYS DID AT NIGHT, NOR DID THEY COME ON AFTER MANUALLY TURNING THEM ON, BUT AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING THEY CAME ON. NEXT NIGHT AGAIN NO LIGHTS, THIS TIME I HIT A BUMP, DASH LIGHTS FLASHED ON THEN OFF AGAIN UNTIL NEXT BUMP IN ROAD AND CAME ON AND STAYED ON. NEXT NIGHT, NO LIGHTS. I HAD MY VEHICLE IN IDLE AND RETRACTED MY DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOWS DOWN TO PULL MY NEPHEW INTO MY LAP TO SAY GOODBYE TO HIM. AT THIS TIME ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER STARTING MY CAR THE WINDOW PANEL, AS WELL AS BELOW THE DOOR PANEL TOWARDS THE SPEAKER A HEAVY SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC SPREAD AROUND THE CAR AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING OUT THROUGH THE SLIT THE WINDOW GLASS RETRACTS BACK INTO. AT THIS TIME I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WAITED UNTIL THE TOXIC SMOKE HAD ESCAPED. THIS ISSUE WITH THE MASTER SWITCH HAS BEEN REPORTED BY TOYOTA FOR 2009 COROLLAS ONLY. THIS COULD HAVE POSED A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK HAD IT GONE UNNOTICED. AFTER DOING THE DIAGNOSTIC, IT WAS FOUND THAT IT WAS IN FACT A FAULTY SWITCH THAT PROBABLY "GOT WET". IF A CAR IS CATCHING ON FIRE AFTER A SIMPLE FLORIDA RAIN SHOWER, THAT IS NOT THE CONSUMER'S FAULT. FAULTY MANUFACTURING IS THE CASE HERE. WAITING ON TOYOTA CORPORATE RESPONSE OR WILL SEEK PROMPT LEGAL ACTION.

LOOKED UP A RECALL ON THE EMC OF 2007 TOYOTA COROLLAS. MY CAR WAS REAR ENDED ON 12/31/2014. EVER SINCE, MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. MY RADIATOR FAN IS NOT WORKING AND HAD TO BE HOT WIRED BY A MECHANIC FOR IT TO STAY ON WHILE RUNNING. MY AC IS NOT WORKING, MY SHIFTER IS STUCK IN PARK WHICH IS CAUSED BY A BAD SOLENOID. I HAVE HAD IT INSPECTED FOR OVER 8 HOURS BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS AT MIDAS, AND THEY COULDN'T FIX IT. THEY SAID THAT EVERY TEST THEY DID WAS READING THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT MY AC AND RADIATOR FAN AND SOLENOID ARE NOT WORKING. MY CAR STALLS OUT OCCASIONALLY, IT WONT START SOMETIMES, AND IT IS IDLING LOUDER THAN BEFORE.

SHORTLY AFTER HAVING THE SSP, COMPUTER REPLACED UNDER RECALL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON AND GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAULT CODE #741 WAS A TRANSMISSION CODE AND THEY HAD TOP REMOVE THE PAN TO CHECK IT OUT FOR A COST OF $350.00. WE ARE THE FIRST OWNERS OF THIS CAR AND BEING IN THE AUTO FIELD FOR OVER 30 YEARS I TOLD THEM THAT THE TRANSMISSION FELT NO DIFFERENT THAN THE DAY WE GOT THE CAR AND SUGGESTED THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE IN THE COMPUTER THAT WAS REPLACED BUT THEY INSISTED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE PAN TO INVESTIGATE AND WOULDN'T EVEN CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE COMPUTER MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM. I REFUSED TO BE CHARGED $350.00 TO HAVE THEM FIND WHAT I ALREADY KNEW AND THEN INCUR OTHER CHARGES FOR THEM TO TROUBLESHOOT TO FIND THE TRUE CAUSE OF THE LIGHT. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM EVER SINCE THE COMPUTER WAS CHANGED ON 3/10/11 UNTIL NOW 5/13/15. THE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS AND THEN GO OFF FOR ABOUT THE SAME TIME. HAS ANYONE ELSE COMPLAINED ABOUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEMS AFTER HAVING THE COMPUTER REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL ? THERE WAS NEVER A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UNTIL THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND I HAVE BEEN IGNORING THE LIGHT NOW . CAR WAS RUNNING THEN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FUSE WAS BLOWN AND THIS CAUSED THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT AND THE EMC TO OVERHEAT AND BURN OUT REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF OVER $2,000.00.

I WAS DRIVING UPHILL ON A ONE-WAY STREET IN DOWNTOWN WHEN I SAW AND HEARD THE SPARKS ABOUT 1 MINUTE APART FROM EACH OTHER ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE BETWEEN THE CRACK OF THE HOOD, THE CAR LOST POWER AND TURNED OFF. I STARTED IT AGAIN, AND IT ONLY MOVED ABOUT TWO FEET AND TURNED OFF. THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACK, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. AN UNKNOWN DRIVER WHO WAS IN FRONT OF US WAS MERGING TO PARK TO THE RIGHT TOLD US TO GET OFF BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ON FIRE, NEXT THE SMOKE WAS VISIBLE. IT BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE BURNED PLASTIC, AND THEN WE SAW THE THICK GREY SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE CRACK OF THE HOOD. I PULLED THE HAND EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR FROM ROLLING BACK DOWN ANY FURTHER. I OPENED THE HOOD WE ALL GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I WENT BACK INSIDE THE CAR TO UNHOOKED THE HARNESS OFF MY DOG. I WAS SO SCARED THAT I COULDN'T RELEASE MY DOG, AND MY SON'S GIRLFRIEND HELPED ME, AND WE GOT MY DOG OUT. MY SON, HIS GIRLFRIEND AND I GOT THE SUPER-SIZE LARGE DRINK WE JUST BOUGHT AT MCDONALD'S AND DUMPED ON THE FIRE WITH THE HELP OF THE UNKNOWN MAN WHO GOT A BUCKET OF SOME LIQUID POSSIBLY WATER FROM THE HOTEL NEXT TO US, AND THE FIRE WAS OUT. I WAS SO TERRIFYING OF HOW RAPID MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE AND HOW FAST EVERYTHING HAPPENING. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THE DEFECTED COMPUTER TWICE, THE TRANSMISSION ONCE, I HAD TWO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN THE PAST, AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN A CAR WITH SO MANY MANUFACTURERS DEFECTIVE PARTS. UNEXPLAINABLE FIRE, IS THE RESPONSE I GOT FROM THE INSURANCE AND REPAIR SHOP WHICH DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT COULD CAUGHT FIRE AT ANY TIME.

THE DRIVER LET THE CAR SIT IN THE PARKING LOT OVER NIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT IN THE MORNING, AGAIN, THE CAR STALLED AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE. I PLANNED A 200-MILE (ONE WAY) VACATION OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, MAY 28 - 31, 2010. I HAD NO SIGNS OF CAR TROUBLES AT THE START OF MY VACATION ON MAY 28 AND NO CAR TROUBLES DURING MY VACATION. HOWEVER, AS I WAS GETTING READY TO DRIVE THE 200 MILES BACK HOME ON MAY 31, I STARTED MY CAR, BUT IT DIED. I STARTED IT AGAIN, AND IT DIED. I MADE SURE THE ACCESSORIES WERE OFF AND THAT NOTHING WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. I THEN STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, AND THE ENGINE RAN FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN DIED. SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, I CALLED TOYOTA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, BUT THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAY. WITH NO WAY TO GET BACK HOME, I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REQUEST A DAY OFF FROM WORK THE NEXT DAY, JUNE 1, AND CONTACTED TOYOTA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AGAIN. THEY TOWED MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. AFTER THEY HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW, THEY TOLD ME THE COMPUTER/ECM (ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE)/ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) FAILED, AND IT WAS CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT TO THE ENTIRE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THEY REPLACED THE ECM FREE OF CHARGE. WHILE I AM VERY THANKFUL I WAS PARKED AND IN A SAFE LOCATION (NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY), THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A FAIRLY NEW CAR WITH UNDER 36,000 MILES. I SEARCHED COMPLAINTS, AND IT APPEARS OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2005 - 2007 COROLLAS. TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB BUT DID NOT MAIL IT TO ALL THEIR POTENTIALLY AFFECTED CUSTOMERS. ON FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 2010, I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA HOME ON MY LUNCH HOUR AND MY CAR STALLED TWICE ON A SHARP TURN. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS SPACE BETWEEN IT AND THE CAR AHEAD, SO HE WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE CONTACT. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED HE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR AND IGNITION. (2) THE NEXT MORNING, I DROVE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NEARBY. WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, MY ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY!!! MECHANIC FOUND ONLINE AND STILL NO INFO ON RATING. REPLACED WITH HEAVIEST RATING AVAILABLE. PROBLEM FIXED AND UNABLE TO DUPLICATE WHAT CAUSED PROBLEM. MOST CONCERNING IS THAT MECHANIC CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. CAR THEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. RECENTLY, ONE OF THE BELTS WAS SQUEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, AN OIL CHANGE AND BUILD-UP ON THE BATTERY REMOVED. THE COST - OVER $320. I TOLD THE DEALER OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS COVERED. WE FEEL THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS USELESS AND THE COROLLA DEALER JUST LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ELECTRICAL COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; ALTHOUGH, THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO HAVE CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,000. VERY DANGEROUS, VERY SCARY. THE CAR WAS GARAGED AND LATER TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CONCEDED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE COMPUTER OR ECM. THERE IS A TSB CONCERNING THIS AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA COROLLAS. FORTUNATELY, I STILL HAD 6K MILES LEFT ON MY WARRANTY SO THIS REPAIR AND THE TOW WAS COVERED BY TOYOTA. I WAS TOLD THAT HAD THIS BEEN AN OUT OF WARRANTY THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN $1300 FOR AN 18MONTH OLD CAR! THEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 55 MPH WHEN IT JUST DIED AND WOULDN'T START BACK UP AT ALL. IT WAS TOWED AGAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAY IT WAS A BLOWN FUSE. IN BOTH INSTANCES THERE IS "POWER" TO THE VEHICLE. THE RADIO, AIR, WIPERS, FLASHERS, ETC ALL WORK FINE. BUT THE ENGINE DOESN'T WORK. *TR

SINCE I AM SHORT I NEED TO MOVE THE SEAT UP FORWARD TO BE COMFORTABLE WHEN DRIVING & TO BE ABLE TO SEE CLEARLY, BUT ONCE I MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD & TILT THE STEERING WHEEL SO THAT I CAN DRIVE COMFORTABLY & SAFELY I CANNOT SEE ALL OF THE SPEEDOMETER READINGS.. ON THE LEFT I CAN SEE 0-20 MPH & ON THE RIGHT I CAN SEE 90-110 MPH ANYTHING IN BETWEEN IS NOT AT EYE LEVEL & I CANNOT SEE THE SPEEDOMETER READINGS.. WHEN I DRIVE IN ORDER TO SEE MY SPEED I NEED TO TAKE MY EYES OFF THE ROAD LOOK DOWN & UNDER THE TOP PART OF THE STEERING WHEEL.. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN DOING 70 MPH ON A PARKWAY WHICH I NEEDED TO DO & I CONSIDER IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS TOYOTA.. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA ACTUALLY PUT THIS OUT ON THE MARKET. HOW DID THIS VEHICLE PASS SAFETY TESTS ? ALSO, ON THIS EXACT SAME VEHICLE I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT ON THE TIRES ODI # 10200011 WHICH I AM STILL HAVING A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM WITH.. HAS TOYOTA SACRIFICED CONSUMER SAFETY FOR PRODUCTION & INCOME ? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE CONTROL PANEL. HE STATED THAT ALL THE INDICATORS ON THE CONTROL PANEL ARE RED IN COLOR AGAINST A BLACK BACKGROUND. THE INDICATORS ARE ALSO VERY THIN. AT NIGHT, THE CONTROL PANEL IS VERY EASY TO READ. DURING THE DAY, ESPECIALLY A SUNNY DAY, THE INDICATORS ARE NOT VISIBLE AT ALL. THE CONTACT IS MOST CONCERNED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THE SPEED THAT HE IS DRIVING ON THE SPEEDOMETER. HE STATED THAT THIS IS AN EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 390 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30.
