STARTED CAR THIS MORNING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO PARTS STORE AND HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND FOUND CODES (P2401, P043E, P043F, P2402, P2419) EVERYTHING I HAVE RESEARCHED COMES BACK TO EVAP CANISTER FAILURE, AND POSSIBLE WIRING FAILURE. MORE RESEARCH SHOWS THESE ISSUES CAUSING PEOPLE GETTING STRANDED AND OTHERS WITH NO PROBLEM OTHER THEN LIGHT, AND OTHERS WITH A STRONG GAS SMELL. IF THIS CAUSES A GAS SMELL, THEN A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IS FORMED.

THREE YEARS AFTER BUYING NEW CAR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, GOT IT CHECKED AT DEALER WAS TOLD IT'S P0741. I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THERE WAS "NO RECALL AND IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT." I ASKED WHAT IT WAS, WAS TOLD IT'S CONVERTER, BUT NOT TO WORRY IF NO PROBLEMS. I'VE TRIED CALLING TOYOTA FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW, TO NO AVAIL. I STILL OWN MY COROLLA AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. .... GLAD I FOUND THIS WEBSITE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECM WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SAVANNAH TOYOTA (11101 ABERCORN ST, SAVANNAH, GA) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V384000(ENGINE, ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

OIL SLUDGE BUILD UP WHICH CAUSED 1ST CYLINDER PISTON TO BREAK CAUSING TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE AND ENGINE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY HAD 68,000 MILES. SAW A WHITE PLUME OF SMOKE AND ENGINE DIED. CAR REQUIRED TOWING TO AUTO MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED PROBLEM.

AFTERWARDS, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SAFELY. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING 20-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE SHIFTING GEARS AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

MY CAR HAD A RECALL COMPLETED ON THE ECM IN 2011. NOW IN 2018 MY ECM IS SHORTING OUT CAUSING MY ENGINE TO SHUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. IN ORDER TO START UP THE ENGINE AGAIN I HAVE TO PULL OVER, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE KEY AGAIN. ONE TIME THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS STOPPED. THE OTHER TIME THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. TOYOTA REPORTED THAT BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND THE REPAIR HAD TO BE COMPLETED AT MY EXPENSE. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE MY CAR SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN IS TO HAVE A NEW ECM INSTALLED.

ENGINE STALLED AND DOES NOT START!

THIS HAPPENED ABOUT FOUR WEEKS APART WITH TWO DIFFERENT DRIVERS UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS. WE WERE SLOWING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN TRAVELING 5-10 MPH AND WHEN WE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE REVED UP. WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME THE THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE SO I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THUS AVOIDED HITTING CAR AHEAD OF ME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THEY HAD IT FOR A DAY AND HALF AND SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY SAID I SHOULD REMOVE MY AFTER MARKET CAR MAT ( WHICH I HAVE) AND SUGGESTED THAT BOTH DRIVERS HAD APPLIED THE BRAKE AND ACCELORATOR AT THE SAME TIME. I THINK THIS IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY AS MY FOOT ISN'T WIDE ENOUGH TO DO BOTH UNLESS MY FOOT IS NEARLY OFF THE BRAKE. THE CAR MAT IN QUESTION HAS BEEN THE CAR FOR 6 PLUS YEARS AND IS A CUSTOM MADE ONE WHICH DOES NOT SLIP.

LOOKED UP A RECALL ON THE EMC OF 2007 TOYOTA COROLLAS. MY CAR WAS REAR ENDED ON 12/31/2014. EVER SINCE, MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. MY RADIATOR FAN IS NOT WORKING AND HAD TO BE HOT WIRED BY A MECHANIC FOR IT TO STAY ON WHILE RUNNING. MY AC IS NOT WORKING, MY SHIFTER IS STUCK IN PARK WHICH IS CAUSED BY A BAD SOLENOID. I HAVE HAD IT INSPECTED FOR OVER 8 HOURS BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS AT MIDAS, AND THEY COULDN'T FIX IT. THEY SAID THAT EVERY TEST THEY DID WAS READING THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT MY AC AND RADIATOR FAN AND SOLENOID ARE NOT WORKING. MY CAR STALLS OUT OCCASIONALLY, IT WONT START SOMETIMES, AND IT IS IDLING LOUDER THAN BEFORE.

THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ON APRIL 28 2014 I RESERVED A RENTAL CAR FROM PRICELESS RENTAL CAR IN INGLEWOOD CA. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS NO INSPECTION OR ANY KIND OF WALK-AROUND TO ENSURE ITS CONDITION. DEAR OFFICER, I BOUGHT THIS CAR (TOYOTA COROLLA 2007) IN DEC 2012 FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. THE CAR WAS TOTALLY RUNNING FINE. I HAVE BEEN CHANGING THE OIL EVERY 3 MONTHS. LAST MONTH, I STARTED NOTICING WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE REAR EXHAUST PIPE AND THE TOYOTA DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE O2 SENSOR AND CHANGED IT (CHARGED $400). I STARTED NOTICING WHITE SMOKE AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY SAID THERE IS A OIL LEAKAGE AND FIXED IT (CHARGED $450). THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE WHOLE BOTTOM PART OF THE ENGINE IS FULL OF OIL SLUDGE AND THAT WOULD TAKE $4000 TO FIX. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR ONLY 8500$ KINDLY INVESTIGATE AND LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN TOYOTA COROLLA. I AM SURE THERE ARE LOT OF CONSUMERS LIKE ME MIGHT BE RUNNING INTO THIS PROBLEM. ON 9/12/2012 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE REP SAID THAT THEY RESET THE SENSOR AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE OK. ON JAN 15,13 I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE 60,000 MILES MAINTENANCE. ONLY THING THAT WAS SAID TO BE FOUND WAS THE FAN BELT WAS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. ON JAN 24 WHILE DRIVING TO THE USAF BASE, THE CAR STARTED MAKING NOISE AND JERKING. WHEN I STOPPED AT THE GATE TO SHOW MY I.D. THE GUARD TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE MY ENGINE WAS DYING, AND GO TO THE MECHANIC ASAP. I TURNED AROUND AND WENT STRAIGHT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND IT TOOK ME 45 MIN TO GET TO TOYOTA BC THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH (THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 10 MIN DRIVE). THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THE AIR FLOW METER SENSOR WAS DIRTY AND FROZEN AND THEY CLEANED AND RESET IT. ON FRIDAY FEB 1ST THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO TOYOTA BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT DRIVE OUT THE DRIVE WAY. TOYOTA REP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THE COMPUTER ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND A NEW ECM WOULD NEED TO BE PUT IN. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 66,000 MILES! THE REP TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE 2005-2008 MODEL TOYOTA COROLLAS AND THAT I NEED TO GET A RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA USA SO THEY CAN FIX THE CAR (I NEVER GOT THE LETTER THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY SENT OUT SEPT 2010). I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS ON FEB 4 AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD NOT GET A LETTER FAXED OR EMAILED HERE TO GERMANY TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED. A RUDE REPRESENTATIVE NAME [XXX] SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME TO GET A RECALL LETTER SENT THROUGH THE MAIL. I DON'T HAVE AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME. I AM DUE TO LEAVE GERMANY IN A WEEK ON MILITARY ORDERS! IN THE DAYS OF TECHNOLOGY, WE CAN PUT A MAN ON THE MOON BUT TOYOTA USA CAN'T SEND AN ELECTRONIC RECALL LETTER TO TOYOTA GERMANY TO HAVE ONE OF THEIR FAULTY VEHICLES REPAIRED? SHAME ON TOYOTA! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A CLICKING NOISE AND DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE ROAD SHOULDER BEFORE STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA CE WHOSE BRAKES WORE DOWN TOO FAST. WE PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2007 WITH 58 MILES ON THE CAR. AT AROUND 20,000 MILES, WHEN WE PRESSED THE BRAKES, THERE WAS PLAY IN THE PEDAL AND THERE WAS A PULL TO THE RIGHT SLIGHTLY. TOYOTA, REPAIRED THE BRAKES SINCE OUR CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NOW OUR BRAKES ARE WEARING DOWN AGAIN AND PULLING TO THE SIDE AGAIN. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE DEALER RECOMMENDED HAVING THE TIMING COVER RE-SEALED, TO STOP A FLUID LEAK. ON MAY 8, 2015, THE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER DID NOT ADDRESS THE TIMING COVER LEAK ALTHOUGH THEY RECOMMENDED RE-SEALING IT. UPDATED 09/02/15.*JB
