Was drive west down Gooding Ave in Bristol,R.I 02809 when my vehicle idle surged and car was going over 50mph with out my foot on the accelerator.. when trying to control the vehicle I couldn't even use the brakes stepping on the brake would not slow down the vehicle I ended up side swiping a vehicle at a traffic light and proceeded through the intersection through a fence onto a person's lawn Clearly this was a unintended acceleration issue
There have been multiple times where the car accelerates on it's own, suddenly. The latest was last evening. It usually happens when I'm just going to accelerate slighting (at a stop sign, or end of the driveway) where I give it just a little gas, and the car accelerates much more quickly than intended. I've looked for a recall, but cannot find one for this. Please advise.

THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE WHICH FELT LIKE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WHERE THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE BUT RATHER MADE A PULSATING MOVEMENT AGAINST MY ROTORS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO KEEP MOVING AND INEVITABLY I COULD NOT STOP MY VEHICLE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE BROUGHT THIS ISSUE UP TO TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT NUMEROUS DEALERS IN THE PAST YEARS AND I WAS GIVEN NO SOLUTIONS. THE EXPLANATION AFTER SHOWING THE TECHNICIANS WAS THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. THIS BRAKE ISSUE CAUSED ME TO NOT HAVE BRAKING SYSTEM POWER TO SAFELY COME TO A STOP PRIOR TO THE COLLISION TODAY. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS LIABLE FOR THE FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE DAMAGE CREATED TODAY TO NOT ONLY MY VEHICLE BUT ALSO TO THE VEHICLE TO WHICH THIS ACCIDENT TODAY INVOLVED INCLUDING ANY KNOWN OR UNKNOWN INJURIES INCURRED. AT THE END OF THE INCIDENT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING SINCE THE REACTION OF THE VEHICLE WAS OPPOSITE OF THE DRIVER COMMAND. THE VEHICLE IS PART OF THE TOYOTA SMART STOP COMPANY RECALL, BUT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NOT DONE SINCE IT IS CONSIDERED OPTIONAL FOR THE OWNER TO DO. BASED ON THE REASONS FOR THE RECALL IT IS CONCERNING THAT THE CONDITION IT IS ADDRESSING MAY HAVE OCCURRED. THE SECOND TIME, THEY ASKED ME TO REPLACE THE "ECU," WHICH I DID. THAT COST ME MORE THAN $800, CLOSE TO $900. THE THREE LIGHTS REAPPEARED AFTER TWO DAYS. I CAME BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO GERMAIN TOYOTA, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ANOTHER THING THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. LAST WEEK, THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER, I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THEM FOR THE SAME LIGHTS, AND THEY TOLD ME TO REPLACE AGAIN THE "GAS CAP," I PAID ANOTHER MONEY, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM CONTINUES TO GO ON AND ON AND PERSIST EVERY WEEK. THE DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT THAT IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT. THOSE THINGS HAPPENED BOTH IN STREETS AND HIGHWAY I-75. AT APPROX 11:30 PM ON JULY 15TH 2016, MY FIANC, MYSELF AND 2 OF OUR FRIENDS WERE HEADING HOME FROM DOWNTOWN MIAMI ON I-95. IT WAS RAINING EXTREMELY HARD, SO EVERYONE WAS GOING WELL BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. I WOULD APPROX WE WERE GOING 35-40 MPH. THE CAR IN FRONT OF US SLAMMED ON HIS BREAKS DUE TO THE RAIN COMING DOWN EXTREMELY HARD, AND I PROCEEDED TO DO THE SAME. HOWEVER INSTEAD OF MY CAR BREAKING, IT BEGAN ACCELERATING 10-15MPH. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE IN TORRANCE AND SHE SUGGESTED TO INSPECT THE " BLACK BOX " OR EDR OF THE CAR THEN SHE ASKED ME WHAT I WANT FROM TOYOTA! I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE GRASS MEDIAN TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP MY CAR. WE STILL FLEW DOWN THE GRASS MEDIAN LIKE A SPEED BOAT HITTING WAVES, WE WERE BOUNCING, THE CAR WAS BOUNCING, I HAD SEVERE CRAMPS AND STABBING ACROSS MY LOWER KIDNEY AREA WHEN WE FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. I HAD TO HOLD THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE ETERNITY. BEFORE IT FINALLY STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA ACCELERATION WAS MADE PUBLIC. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL AGENCY IN PORT CHARLOTTE FL, WHERE I RENTED IT, BUT THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED. IT WASN'T UNTIL A WEEK LATER THAT THIS STORY WAS IN THE NEWS. I CALLED THE NHTSB TO FILE A COMPLAINT, I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT AGAIN AFTER HEARING THE GOV'T RESPONSE TO THE STUDY OF THIS PROBLEM. FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS NOT CORRECT. THIS CAR I DROVE DID NOT HAVE THE PEDAL STICK OR FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. IT DEFINITELY ACCELERATED COMPLETELY ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT THE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. I WAS PARKING MY CAR WEDNESDAY EVENING. AS I WAS ABOUT TO FINISH PARKING MY CAR, THE ENGINE OUT OF NOWHERE MADE A LOUD VROOM AND ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN AS I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE. THE CAR HIT A SNOW BANK WHICH STOPPED THE CAR. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED.

MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA CONTINUES TO HAVE ACCELERATION ISSUES. NOW IT ACCELERATES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON TO SPEEDS OVER 100/110 MPH. I HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR FROM VERMONT TO CALIFORNIA, AND USED MY CRUISE CONTROL FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 75 TO 80 MPH IN AREAS AND I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL TO 72. THE NEXT THING I NEW, THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD ON ITS OWN & WENT COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL. IT WENT TO SPEEDS OF 100- 120 MPH WITHIN 1-2 MINUTES AND I COULD HARDLY CONTROL THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN IN 3-4 ACCELERATION INCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE ALREADY AND BEEN INJURED (THE REPORTS I HAVE ALREADY FILED WITH YOUR AGENCY THIS PAST YEAR). THIS VEHICLE IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE. THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL OR ENGINE PROBLEM WITH THESE TOYOTAS, NO MATTER WHAT THE NHTSA, THE FEDS, OR TOYOTA STATES. IT IS NOT THE WAY AMERICANS ARE DRIVING ! DON'T INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE. FROM A PARKED POSITION NEXT TO THE CURB, WE PUT OUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK AWAY FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND PROCEEDED TO JUMP OVER A CURB AND HIT A TREE NEXT TO US ON THE SIDE WALK. AGAIN, THIS WAS WHEN THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE, SO THE ACCELERATION WAS GOING BACKWARDS, WITH OUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AFTER TAKING OUR CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR CONSULTATION ON SEPT 7TH, THEY INDICATE THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND WE WOULD NEED TO CONTACT TOYOTA DIRECTLY ON THIS PROBLEM. IT IS NOW NEARLY A MONTH LATER, AND WE STILL HAVE NOT BEEN "VISITED" BY THE TOYOTA ENGINEERING TEAM. WE WERE ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER BY TOYOTA AND TOLD TO WAIT TO HEAR FROM THEM. WE ARE STILL WITHOUT OUR CAR AND WAITING SOME KIND OF FORMAL INSPECTION FROM THE TOYOTA CORPORATE TEAM. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IS TRYING TO HELP AS WELL AND IS ALSO CONTACTING TOYOTA CORPORATE FOR ASSISTANCE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

SHE THEN ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL 'JERKS OUT OF HER HAND' WHEN DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HER MORE THAN ONCE. THE DEALER IN ALLENTOWN WAS TOLD OF THIS, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT SHE HAD A PROBLEM WITH HER DRIVER SIDE WINDOW NOT ROLLING DOWN WHEN THE SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED. THIS HAPPENED TO HER ONCE. THIS DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE 2 ABOVE MENTIONED OTHER PROBLEMS. I TOLD HER SHE IS TO DOCUMENT ANY FUTURE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. I AM ESTIMATING THE INCIDENT DATES. ON FEBRUARY 15, 2010, I DROVE MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA FOR A SHORT ERRAND NEAR MY HOME. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. TO KEEP THE CAR UNDER CONTROL, I GENTLY PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR A LITTLE THEN PRESSED GENTLY ON THE BRAKE. THEY WILL CONTACT MY DEALER. 2 OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE, IF MY HARD BRAKING DID NOT WORK THE CAR WOULD HAVE KEPT ACCELERATING, THE SURGE WAS POWERFUL. ALSO, THE ENGINE DID NOT REV, THE CAR JUST SEEMED TO GET A SIGNAL TO ACCELERATE TO A CERTAIN SPEED. YES, THE EXPERIENCE WAS SCARY AND DANGEROUS. ON 27JAN10, I DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR UNDER THE CARPORT BEFORE AN ICE STORM HIT OKLAHOMA WITH NO ISSUES. ON FRIDAY 29JAN10, I HAD TO MOVE MY CAR TO SHOVEL THE SNOW FROM THE DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I MADE SURE EVERYTHING (DEFROSTER, FAN, ETC) WERE OFF AND TRIED AGAIN. IT WOULDN'T START AND SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE WAS ALMOST STARTING BUT NOT QUITE. I TRIED A 3RD TIME AND IT FINALLY STARTED. ALL THREE ATTEMPTS WERE SEVERAL SECONDS LONG. THE DASHBOARD WOULD NOT LIGHT UP AND AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS, IT FINALLY LIT UP BUT THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND VSC ICON LIGHT WERE ON AND THE VSC OFF LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I LET IT WARM UP FOR A WHILE AND THE LIGHTS STILL DID NOT GO AWAY. I MOVED THE CAR TO GET THE SNOW OUT OF THE WAY AND PARKED IT IN THE SAME PLACE AGAIN. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, 1FEB10, I DROVE TO WORK WITH THE SAME 3 LIGHTS LIT UP ON ROADS THAT HAD SOME ICE. I FISHTAILED IN TWO INTERSECTIONS AND I'VE FELT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL KICK IN ON WET ROADS LAST YEAR BUT IT NEVER KICKED IN THAT DAY SO I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT I DID NOT HAVE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. I DROVE TO WORK AND FIRED OFF AN E-MAIL TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP BUT I COULD NOT COME IN UNTIL WEDNESDAY 3FEB10 AND BY THEN, THE LIGHTS WENT AWAY ON THEIR OWN. THEY DID, HOWEVER, FIND A CODE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A "CAMSHAFT TIMING" CODE OR SOMETHING OF THAT SORT BUT THE ORIGINAL CODE THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT TO COME ON WAS ALREADY KICKED OUT OF MEMORY. THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THIS EVER HAPPENED. THE DEALERSHIP RESET THE CODE FOR THE CAMSHAFT TIMING CODE BUT NOTHING ELSE WAS DONE EXCEPT RECORD IT IN MY FILE AT MY REQUEST IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM COME UP WHEN IT'S COLD AND WET.
