Engine coolant bypass valve

Aug 27, 2025

I have experienced a message saying 'Engine Maintenance Required' and after experiencing the same instances as many people have online, it seems the engine coolant bypass valve is faulty and needs to be replaced. No code can be read using a code reader either.

Aug 11, 2025

Engine Maintenace required light came on. I was told that my coolant bypass valve needed to be replaced. This is happening on all Toyota vehicles from 2018-2024 common issue but the repair to fix something that should be covered under warranty.

Jul 15, 2025 Crash

Coolant Bypass Valve

Jun 23, 2025

On June 19, 2025, I was driving and out of nowhere, there was a warning notification that said "A warning light was turned on. Would you like to call an operator?" On the digital cluster, there was a message that said "Engine Maintenance Required - Visit Your Dealer. Mileage noted down was 79,632. I asked around for some insight and people are telling me it's the water/coolant bypass valve that's leaking and the Op code is 24TE04R1. Will this be a covered service?

Jun 21, 2025

The engine maintenance required message appeared on the dash. I was travel from work to home (about 40 miles). I pulled over immediately at a store, left my car and walked over a mile to the mechanic shop down the road (in 95° weather with a knee that has been through 3 surgeries in less than 5 years). The gentleman took me back to my car. Followed me as i took my car back to the repair shop since it was close and did not have any lights on the dash and I was not overheating. He plugged a reader in it and the error was a coolant bypass valve issue (i can't remember the exact verbage). I purchased a replacement valve 6-17-25, along with toyota coolant. I am having to wait and save up the money to have the valve replaced at the shop got the message code from. I can not afford the dealerships cost to replace the valve. The valve and coolant was expensive in itself. I have read many forums and blogs. Toyota knew there was an issue and I am requesting my reimbursement for the cost of replacing a part you knew was faulty.

Flow Shut-off Valve Coolant Leak

May 22, 2025

I have an error that appeared displaying “Engine Maintenance Required” after some investigation snd research, I have noticed that this is a common issue associated with the OEM Engine Coolant Bypass Valve. This occurred as I was driving home from work when I was driving down the freeway, I did not run into any obstacles or have an accident, it appeared out of thin air.

May 19, 2025

unknown. i know that my car was doing fine and then randomly the coolant was low and my car was overheating on my way to work. i have yet to get it fixed, as i dont know how much it could cost me. but i read that 2020-2021 toyota makes were having issues with their coolant.

May 16, 2025

An engine maintenance required warning popped up. The pop up wasn't going away. My engine sounds louder than usual when turning my A/C on.

May 6, 2025

I received a "voluntary Customer Support Program" letter from Toyota saying that a small engine coolant leak can occur that "can allow coolant to drip on other parts of the vehicle. This can cause 'Engine Maintenance Required' to be displayed or cause the A/C not to function normally." Then it concludes that repair with a new "flow shut-off valve" will fix the problem, "under the terms of this Customer Support Program." I thought this was a recall and took my car in only to find that they wanted nearly $700 for the repair, because I did not have an extended warranty. When asked whether this could cause a safety problem if unfixed the reply from the Service Advisor was yes -- the coolant leak could potentially cause the engine to seize up on the highway. I was shocked that a defective part in the car I purchased new for $20,000 plus would not be replaced free of charge. I have put less than 16,000 miles on the car and now I find the resale value is essentially zero. And I now may be driving a potentially risky vehicle that could crash or leave me stranded somewhere. I feel there should be a repair at no charge.

Apr 26, 2025

Car is currently at 56k miles and the "Engine maintenance required" popped up on my dashboard I'm pretty sure this is the engine coolant bypass valve which I read is a constant problem for new toyotas like mine

Apr 25, 2025

Drive start control malfunction occurred when turning the car on. Second time this has happened. First time was a charcoal canister and engine coolant valve. It was replaced under warranty at 50k miles but now at 96k miles the dealer says it is not covered under the extended warranty. Not sure how this problem happened.

Apr 22, 2025

Once I parked my car and turned on the A/C a couple mins later I received a warning message on my car screen saying “ Engine Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer”. After having my car for 4 years I’ve never received this message till now (04/22/25). I thought it was because I needed an oil change but I was wrong because my oil is good. I checked my car and saw that the issue is the “coolant bypass valve”. I don’t even use my car that much for this to happen. I saw this is a common issue with a Toyota Corolla 2020 but the dealership does not want to fix this issue for free.

Apr 4, 2025

I own a 2020 Toyota Corolla, and without any prior warning, the “Engine Maintenance Required” message appeared on my dashboard at approximately 79,575 miles. There were no unusual symptoms—no overheating, strange noises, or performance issues—before the light turned on. I had my vehicle inspected by Golling Toyota of Warren, where they diagnosed the issue as a faulty Engine Coolant Bypass Valve. I was informed that the valve needed to be replaced and flushed. The total cost of the repair was $932.21, which I had to pay out of pocket. Because the message specifically said “Engine Maintenance Required,” I was concerned that it could be a serious engine issue. Out of caution, I avoided driving the vehicle until it was inspected, as I didn’t know whether it could result in engine damage, performance failure, or a sudden breakdown while on the road. The fear of an unknown engine-related malfunction created a genuine safety concern for me and others —especially since the warning came without any prior symptoms. I later learned that the problem was tied to the Engine Coolant Bypass Valve, which is known to fail prematurely in Toyota vehicles. This failure can affect engine performance and temperature regulation, increasing the risk of engine damage or failure while driving. There is already a class-action lawsuit concerning this issue, yet Toyota has not issued a recall. Owners like myself are being left to pay out of pocket for a known defect that poses real safety risks. I’m submitting this complaint in hopes that Toyota will be held accountable and that the NHTSA will take appropriate action to protect consumers from this recurring and potentially dangerous defect.

Mar 26, 2025

“Engine maintenance required” alert received, related to a faulty coolant bypass valve which will need replacement. Vehicle is currently at 51,049 miles. Alert message can’t be dismissed from the dashboard. It obstructs a significant portion of the speedometer.

Vehicle maintenance light won’t turn off, stays off if car started with AC off but comes on and stays on while AC is running. Coolant overflow valve malfunction

Jan 12, 2025

"Engine maintenance required. Visit dealer" message appeared about 2 years ago. The message appears when I turn on the A/C or heater and will not go away, which affects multiple functions such as speedometer and text function.

Jan 10, 2025

Engine coolant leak from an issue with a valve that allows coolant to drip on other parts of the vehicle. “Engine Maintenance Required” is displayed on the instrument cluster and causes the A/C to not function normally.

Jan 6, 2025

I keep getting a warning sign on my dashboard stating that "Engine maintenance required. Call your dealership". After scanning for codes, I get the code P2681, or that the Engine coolant bypass valve is faulty. After looking online it appears that this is a common issue with this car model. There is a class action lawsuit for this right now since the part is known to be faulty and can crack and leak engine coolant. Toyota has refused to issue a recall for this and will charge you to replace this faulty hardware. I also am not able to clear the message while driving and it will constantly pop back up distracting me while driving and making me unable to see any important warning on my dashboard. This is endangering my ability to safely drive my vehicle.

Dec 17, 2024

There was a maintenance required notice on my dashboard and I searched up that it was my coolant bypass valve having an issue. Apparently it’s a defective part in Toyota Corolla and rav4 models from 2019-2023 I believe. The notice would come on and off each time I would start the vehicle. The dealership has confirmed this issue is common and after having it inspected and diagnosed, it was indeed the coolant bypass valve. My safety and the safety of others were fine, my engine would’ve been the unfortunate casualty if I did not take care of this.

Nov 20, 2024

Car would not start/turn over - Not battery related. Toyota determined the ECU went bad and stated the cause was improperly jumping the battery. The issue happened randomly one day (car was driving fine previous days)

Nov 15, 2024

There is a problem with the bypass control heater valve of my car Corolla Toyota 2020 It says i have to replace it but it's still running good. I research what this part is about and it says that this is a malfunction in all the Toyota Corollas and RAV4 2019-2021. The message "engine maintenance required" doesn't go away and it doesn't let me see the mile percentage when driving. This problem has been confirmed by a mechanic who installed the tablet and run a test to see what's wrong with it. The car has not been checked by insurance because of this manufacturer malfunction. This all started happening 6 months ago and haven't found a way to replace it and dealership charges over 800 dollars for a mistake Toyota made on all Corollas line. Please help me find a solution. Thank you!

Vehicle was brought to Toyota because of "Engine Maintenance Required" message. We initially thought it was "Maintenance Required" so husband said we may need to change the oil, but it was only a few thousand miles since last oil change. I tried to remove the message but the Toyota Manual did not have any instructions on the "Engine Maintenance Required" message removal. When he left Toyota after changing oil, same message was on dashboard. Husband went back to Toyota and asked them to remove the "Engine Maintenance Required" and was told that there is a coolant bypass valve that must be changed in order for the message to go away. The cost should be around $1,000 and then proceeded to tell him he needed to buy new tires as well. All would total about $2,800. Vehicle has 58K miles and we are afraid to drive the vehicle now until we know what is actually wrong with it. It's suspicious to read all the complaints describing the same situation we have with Toyota. By the way, after we were told about the needed repair, I started getting emails from Toyota about purchasing a Toyota warranty, advertisements in the mail from car warranty companies and phone calls from Toyota salespeople to come and buy/lease a new Corolla and I would get a "great deal"! Is this some scam to generate business? Are Toyota owners being subjected to a "bait and switch" scam? I would like an investigation initiated by your agency. My vehicle is available upon request and our safety is at risk because we truly don't know what is wrong with it and afraid to drive it any longer. If your agency wants to read complaints from other owners, I direct you to read the complaints on [XXX] or Google "Toyota Engine Maintenance Repair" message. It's very much an eye-opener about fraud being perpetrated by Toyota. I can provide any documentation needed when I am personally contacted and requested to furnish them. My 2020 toyota corolla's warning light which stated "engine maintenance required visit your dealer" came on. When I called the dealership they stated I would need to come in and hook it up to diagnose the problem which would cose me $185 + taxes and fees. Then once diagnosed they would be able to fix the problem. I checked with O'Reilly's autopart store and Autozone which both of their scanners found nothing wrong. So I informed Toyota and they stated they I need to bring it to them because their scanner/tool is the one which will tell us what the problem is specific to my car. But they stated they think it could be a hose related to my coolant system to prevent my car from overheating. They stated to watch the temperature gauge while driving as it may overheat and become dangerous to drive. If this happens or I see any smoke pull over and get out if the car. However they haven't seen anyone have to do this so they think I should be fine but I should fix this problem soon. I asked if that is the problem would it fall under my mechanical breakdown insurance coverage and the dealership stated that if that's the problem yes but if I go through the insurance it will take a really long time to fix because they'd have to file a claim and get paid before doing any repairs. Then they said I'd have to pay the copay and any difference. I was confused as my insurance states I only have to pay my copay. However, I had someone else with a scanner/tool hook theirs up and to see if we could check the actual problem and it did say the error code P268115 engine bypass coolant valve. So, this was the issue. I viewed online that there is a class action lawsuit going on right now for this same problem with 2019-2023 Toyota Rav 4 and Corolla's. Toyota failed to disclose this information to it's consumers and it is not being covered under the power train warranty either. This safety issue with cars overheating is dangerous and costly.

Getting engine maintenance required, coolant valve failed for no reason.

Sep 28, 2024

The engine Coolant Valve is leaking coolant, in ordering a new part to replace so yes it’ll be available for inspection. My car Could overheat leaving me or my riders stranded wherever it is that the car stops. I went to Tires plus and they said I had to swap it out but I refuse to go to Toyota so they can rob my money The part has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance, The only symptom is my coolant runs low sometimes and my engine maintenance screen won’t go away

Sep 26, 2024

I have been a victim of a known defect in Toyotas Coolant Bypass Valve as of recent when approaching my 40000 mile service maintenance.

Sep 7, 2024

Coolant bypass valve. Becoming persistent in several models of Toyota 2019-2021. Dealerships claim it’s not covered under powertrain warranty because it’s part of the coolant system. Should be covered and customer should be compensated or reimbursed.

Engine Coolant Bypass Valve has gone bad and presents a 'Engine Maintenance Required, see Dealer' error message.

Aug 31, 2024

The Coolant Bypass Valve on my Toyota Corolla 2020 is faulty. An "Engine Maintance Required" code appeared a couple months ago, when the vehicle was still under 60K miles. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. A faulty coolant bypass valve can cause the engine to overheat or leak coolant, leading to potential breakdowns or accidents. It may also trigger warning lights and reduce cabin heating, creating further safety risks. Not confirmed by dealership/indepenent service center. Only confirmed by personal inspection. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by manufactuer/police/insurance representatives. "Engine Maintance Required" message appeared on digitial display of vehicle. Message does not appear when the vehcile is turned on while A/C system is left OFF, but upon turning on the A/C, the maintaince required message appears, indiciating a faulty bypass valve.

Aug 25, 2024

coolant bypass valve is defective and failed prematurely. coolant bypass valve cracks and leaks coolant. Once coolant beings leaking, it comes into contact with the electrical connector located near the valve. The coolant corrodes and damages the connector, which eventually causes connector to malfunction. This causes the coolant bypass valve to be stuck in the “open” or “closed” position (i.e. it no longer responds to the needs of the engine), restricting coolant flow and allowing the engine to overheat. I had to repair the vehicle at Harvey's Autotech 521 West Sixth Street Corona, CA 92882 (951) 737-9878 at the cost of $643.91and loss of a work day.

Aug 21, 2024

I was driving in traffic when a warning light comes on it says "engine maintenance required visit your dealer". I have looked everywhere in the manual on this message and unable to find anything no other lights are on or anything to determine the issue. Took it to get checked at autozone no codes came up all is clear. I've read online this is a known issue to replace the coolant bypass valve. Unfortunately I take my vehicle to toyota for all oil changes etc and this was not mentioned.

Aug 15, 2024

Faulty coolant bypass valve needing repair. Manufacturer has open class action lawsuit. My car is also impacted.

Aug 8, 2024

An engine maintenance required warning displayed on the car dashboard. Crown Toyota Ontario performed diagnostic inspection and detected that code P268115 - engine coolant bypass valve was defective. Based on research the P268115 - engine coolant bypass valve is a common failure to Toyota Corolla, RAV 4 and Camry by car owners for models manufactured in 2019 - 2023. Toyota Ontario advised that the defect is not covered by warranty. My corolla is a 2020 model with 77,379 mileage on it.

Jul 31, 2024

I had called Toyota colonial dealership in Milford CT. After briefly speaking with the service representative, he advised that it’s most likely the engine coolant bypass valve. He said that it is common with my car models. I did some extra research and found out that many others were having the same issue from only having the car for a few years.

2020 TOYOTA COOLANT BYPASS VALVE. $800 estimate to repair

Jul 19, 2024

Coolant bypass valve malfunction, leaking coolant, engine maintenance required sign pops up on dash around 60k miles

Jul 12, 2024

Engine maintenance light came on after turning on air conditioner. Vehicle information: warning light came on at 56,800 miles on 2020 Toyota Corolla, no after market modifications to vehicle. I took vehicle to Toyota dealership for diagnostic testing. Conclusion: coolant bypass valve faulty causing leaks (this can cause overheating, stalling, increased emissions, and total engine failure and also allows coolant to leak into and damage surrounding engine components, including a vehicle's electrical system, the complaint relays). Fortunately, I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY when I bought the vehicle new, which covered the repairs. The faulty coolant bypass valve was replaced at the Toyota dealership. Had I not purchased the extended warranty, I would of been out of pocket for said repairs.

Jul 7, 2024

THE CAR IS 41.000 MILES. WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED WHEN SUPPOSEDLY MUST TO LAST UNTIL 100.000 MILES.

Jul 3, 2024

engine maintenance required notification popping up. told i needed to replace engine coolant bypass valve. safety is at risk because the notification blocks my speedometer . dealer has confirmed that the engine bypass valve needs to be replaced and this happens with all toyotas around 40k miles. has been inspected by dealership. notification popped up on my car about two weeks ago.

Jun 26, 2024

Coolant Bypass Valve seems to have an issue at 60k miles which seems to happen to many people at mileage even lower than mine sometimes! My dad had this issue on his 2021 Corolla at 50k miles.

Jun 24, 2024

"Engine Maintenance Required See Dealer" Message on Dash Display Engine Coolant Bypass Valve I see this incident repeated for the recent Corolla SE and RAV 4 multiple times with no recall/resolution other than Toyota customers should be prepared to spend close to $750 to fix and replace this part that only takes about 20 minutes to be replaced. This is not new to Toyota. This a rip off. A lot money was paid for the car. Went to dealer less than a year ago and purchased a 2020 SE with a $23,323 price tag. Including dealer fees, finance charges and extended warranties the total price comes to $39,000+. I feel cheated as a customer. A practically new car comes with a defective part and it is not covered by warranty?? Come on. I've trusted and recommended Toyota for years. Do you no longer stand by your company name? Need a better resolution. Please.

Jun 7, 2024

"Engine Maintenance Required" sign came on, I took it to the dealership and was told it was the coolant bypass valve and it would be $800. Upon doing some research is see that this is a very common issue for 2020 Toyota Corollas. My car is still under 60,0000 so I'm surprised I need work this experience done already

Jun 7, 2024

The car is showing an engine maintance required which ended up being a faulty coolant valve

Jun 3, 2024

The car is at 58,125 miles and I’ve had a “engine maintenance required, please take to dealership” message for the past 3 months which will not go away and is just stuck on my dash. An OB2 port scanner shows nothing wrong, but after a diagnosis at toyota it appears I need a new engine coolant bypass valve. As it turns out, many other corolla, rav 4, and camry owners of the same generation (2020 and up) also receive the message and need to get the coolant bypass valves replaced around 30k-60k miles.

Jun 3, 2024

coolant bypass valve is malfunctioning in 2020 toyota corolla se. upon research this is a known problem in toyota corollas, camrys, rav 4 and prius, and was recommended to report this as a possible recall. Coolant bypass valve bad at 26000 miles

May 22, 2024

"Engine Maintenance Required - Visit Your Dealer" message popped up on my car's (Toyota Corolla 2020) dashboard all of a sudden and I didn't have any issues with engine before. I brought up my card to Toyota Service Center in Sunnyvale, CA and they told me that my car's coolant bypass valve has to be replaced and re-check if it's needed which is an uncertain thing and advised me not driving the car as it may damage the cooling system components or even the engine itself. All of these will cost me 911.58$ which is too much but it's not all yet. I was researching this issue on the Internet and figured out that many people who has the Corolla 2020 and 2021 had the exact same issue. I don't think it's a coincidence. People also complaining about the same issue for Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Camry. I don't want to pay so much money which is almost 1k. I never had any accidents and or crashes. May 7, 2024

The Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Short in the vehicle has malfunctioned. This appears to be widespread issue not only in the Corolla, but in the Camry and RAV4, and appears to affect model years 2019-2024. This issue caused coolant leakage, has the potential to cause issues with the engine, and affects the A/C/Heating systems as well. There were no warning signs prior to the failure, and the car had just passed a multi point inspection 4 days prior to the failure. The problem has been reproduced by my local Toyota dealership.

May 4, 2024

At 4 years and 1/2 old car 2020 Corolla XSE an Engine Maintenance Required SEE DEALER light turned on. Did diagnostic with OBD 2 scanner at two locations auto body shop and Uto zone. Nothing appears. It is in fact a NEEDED future recall since thousands if not more people have encountered the same. It is a Coolant By Pass Valve. Cost is only $99.53 + tax at dealer. Problem is that should be under warranty or extended warranty or recall. Dealer likes to charge $800 (180-200 for diagnostic, $110 part, $400 labor. Part only takes 30 minutes to install. I should be able to buy at dealer for $110 and have them install for free or pay 30 minutes of work time = $85. 1 hour is about $175. So instead of trying to be billed $800 I should only be billed for $85 labor (30 minutes) + $110 part = Brand total of $105 USD. Experience with a faulty Coolant Bypass Valve. Read enough information of this being a problem with newer toyotas (RAVs, Camrys, Corollas, etc.). Cannot get rid of Engine Maintence Required notification on dash which pops up every 10 seconds when I’m driving after I dismiss it. This specific notificaiton is also NOT in the Toyota Manual whatsoever, and no it is not the Maintenance Service Required notification that comes up every 5,000 miles for basic check up.

My 2020 Toyota Corolla had a warning light turn on, on 3/20/2024. The warning read "Engine Maintenance Required". I looked up this issue and read that many people were having similar issues with the coolant bypass valve. I took my car to my local Toyota dealership and they confirmed it was the coolant bypass valve. The risks included in this failure can be overheating and engine damage.

Had my car (Toyota Corolla 2020 SE) give a “engine maintenance required, take to a dealer” error message on my digital dashboard. No error codes from any maintenance device but apparently only the Toyota dealership can find this in the software using their computers to find it somewhere deep in there… The problem is the upper engine coolant bypass valve. This is costing me almost $1000 including the $80+ in diagnostics that ONLY the Toyota dealership can see and find out. Apparently this is a very common occurrence with the 4 cylinder corollas and RAV4s.

Engine Coolant Bypass Valve replacement , Toyota is charging me 888 dollars for repair.

Mar 7, 2024

I discovered that my 2020 Toyota Corolla SE has a Coolant Valve Bypass malfunction coded "p2688115". I have also discovered this a prevalent issue after you hit 70,000 miles. There are forums all over the internet with complaints about the same issue as mine. I did some research and found no recalls. With this being such a common issue for no reason, faulty equipment. The car has been inspected by a Toyota dealer in Bradenton, FL because we had thought the service vehicle message was for a tire rotation. They scanned the vehicle and discovered the fault code "p2688115" after trying to reset it numerous times. The senior tech was the one who scanned it. He knew the exact reason why it was not clearing before scanning the vehicle. He only scanned it to solidify his hypothesis. I then spoke to the service team, they wanted me to bring it in for a diagnosis that would cost $85.00 if my warranty did not cover it. The cost of the part was estimated at around $150.00 plus labor and taxes. It was over a $400.00 repair. For a repair as such, this needs to be recalled. The warning message never went away, if you tried to clear it to view the screen you had about three seconds before it came back on. It is a major safety risk for those who wear glasses and drive at night. I use the screen to keep myself safe and maintain my driving speed. This warning message came on around 70,000. Some so many other individuals have experienced and complained about the same problem. This needs to be escalated. I am not allowed to utilize the safety features my car has to offer. Please take action and commence an investigation.

Coolant bypass valve leaks through wiring and damages itself.

Mar 5, 2024

After I had brought a my car to the dealer for its oil change and tire rotation, a warning message came from my car saying "Engine Maintenance Required". After checking with my dealer, they said that the coolant bypass valve needed to be replaced. After checking online, it seems that this is a common problem for recent Toyota vehicles.

After bringing my vehicle in for its oil change and tire rotation, a warning message showed up from my car saying "Engine Maintenance Required". After checking with my dealer, they said that the coolant bypass valve needed to be replaced. My car only has 33,000 miles and has had no issues whatsoever.

The coolant bypass valve in some Toyota models has been malfunctioning recently and has become a common issue. Dealer confirmed that this was the issue per attached diagnostic report/invoice copy. Costs were >$800 to repair the issue for a <$100 part and 30 minutes of labor. The "Engine Maintenance Required" warning was visible in the display. Unsure as to the short or long-term effects of this malfunctioning part, but as it's related to the cooling system of the vehicle, it may trigger other more serious issues.

Around 40k miles I received an Engine Maintenance Required warning. After some research Engine Maintenance and Engine Service Required are two very different indicators. I received and P2681 code meaning the electrical coolant bypass valve had failed unfortunately one can’t tell if it’s stuck shut or open this could lead to one’s care over heating and or damaging one’s engine. After some research I’ve come to find out most 2020-2024 corollas have been having this issue tends to happen about 30-50k miles

Coolant bypass valve failure. Replacement part carried the same defect.

Oct 30, 2023

In the past week at 30,700 miles, my 2020 Toyota Corolla "Engine Maintenance light; see dealer" service light appeared on the dash. Through talking with a Toyota dealer, they are aware of this issue with Corollas, Camrys, and Rav4's. It is an engine coolant bypass valve, and appears to be faulty in many vehicles according to youtube videos, google, and Toyota service. Perhaps this needs to be a recall? Also, the dealer wants almost $800 to repair even though many people do it on youtube in under an hour. Parts are less than $200, and 1.5 hours of labor do not add up to $800.

I had to replace all four tires before reaching 40k miles. Brakes needed to be fully replaced with only two years of driving it. AND Engine Maintenance Light on for an issue with the coolant bypass valve, not covered under warranty. This is causing issues with the engine, when driving even at 25 miles per hour or at 65 the car sounds like its dragging or forcing itself, the wheel shake & car feels unbalanced even with a tire alignment. Overall i give the car a 2.5 out 5 star in performance. The body of the car is so fragile and made by very cheap materials. Spending a fortune on this vehicle and it hasnt even reached 60k miles yet.

Engine maintenance light came on and found out I had replace coolant bypass valve. Apparently this is an issue many 2020 corollas and RAV4 have issues with and need replacement. There’s no reason or rhyme as to why it becomes faulty but should be recalled as many people have the same issue and dealership are aware of this issue.

Just bought a used 20 Corolla SE and put less then 500 miles on it and got a "maintenance required return to dealer" notification on the dash and a warning message in my information screen via infotainment system. Dealer said they got nothing via a scan. The issue is the Coolant Bypass Valve. I reset the light on the dash and restarted my car with air off and it did not come back on. The second you turn on the air (the A/C in particular) the light immediately popped back on along with a new warning message. I've looked around and there's literally THOUSANDS of people reporting the same issue all on vehicles between 15k and 100k miles. The dealers also charge at least $600-$1100 to remedy this all too common issue as they will tell you it is not covered under warranty. I'm unsure of what promised damage to the vehicle could be but I know for a fact it's not nothing. Everyone is dumbstruck with how many people have this issue and there is still no Recall on this clearly terribly made Coolant Bypass Valve. It seems to apply of us that this is just a cash grab for Toyota

Coolant bypass valve problem. Engine maintenance required light has come on. This part affects several other components of the vehicle. Toyota dealership wants to charge $800 to fix it. It is a very common issue faced by many customers of 2020+ Corollas and 2019+ Rav4s. All dealerships with service departments are aware of this issue.

Coolant leak due to engine defect from manufacture.

Dec 17, 2022

I have only had the car for a year and a half, and I have already had to replace the battery which was less than 2 years old, all 4 tires (2 at 40000 miles and 2 at 48000), and now the engine wiring harness somehow got severed and has to be replaced which is almost $6k repair!

Jun 28, 2022

Code P2688115 engine maintenance required sign turned on at around 41000 miles. Other people having similar problems with coolant bypass valve. Suspect that coolant bypass valve safety standards might be at fault.

Newly bought vehicle won't start when key is turned in ignition. Problem is a repeat problem and vehicle was repeatedly towed to dealer (Gosch Toyota). Dealer said there is nothing wrong with the car . Dealer admits he can't reproduce the problem and paperwork I've obtained from them indicates they may not have even tried. Car has major safety issue and is unreliable which is an explanation falling on deaf ears at Gosch. So it remains parked in my driveway. I refuse to put anyone in my family into it because of obvious safety issues. Car is totally unreliable if one can't rely on it to work .

We rented a 2020 Toyota Corolla from Hertz at the McCarran Airport Las Vegas NV and almost past out while driving due to Carbon Monoxide poisonings. My wife was sick 3 out of the 4 days while this auto was being driven in our possession. At first our sickness was thought to be motion sickness or maybe from something we ate. It wasn't until we drove this car out of town when we both my wife and I started getting very sick weak dizzy and vomiting. We tried to drive out to the Hover Dam but stop about 10 miles short. After a brief rest we decided to had back to Las Vegas. Just outside of Las Vegas I could hardly breath and had all the same symptoms previously stated. Luckily I was able to get out of traffic and pulled off the high stopping at the first place I was able to pull into. I believe that If I didn't do so I would have passed out and may have caused an accident. Roadside assistance stated this is a common thing in Toyota's. My concern is how many of these cars are rentals and how many people may have been in accidents and the driver blamed? Please google 2020 Toyota Corolla Carbon monoxide poisoning for morning formation. Feel free to call me at [XXX] for more details. I WAS WAITING AT A STOPLIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK WAITING FOR IT TO TURN GREEN. I TURN THE WHEEL TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE CAR DIEDALL THE BUZZERS WHISTLES AND LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD.. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO PARK AND BACK TO DRIVE BUT NOTHING HAPPENED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON A BUSY STREET AND WAS JUST GETTING READY TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK WHEN I DECIDED TO TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT WAS FINE AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN LEFT. THAT HAPPENED TO ME TWICE ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THIRD TIME I WAS TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND A TRUCK PULLED IN FRONT OF ME I HAD TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. AND THEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND TURNED LEFT THEN RIGHT INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND IT DIED. ITHE DASHBOARD SAID PUT IN PARK WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK IT SAID ENGINE POWER LOW. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA I WAS SITTING THERE FOR SIX HOURS AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE WORKING WITH CORPORATE AND NO ONE HAD AN ANSWER FOR ME. AFTER THE THIRD TIME I CALLED CORPORATE AND WAS DEALING WITH A WOMAN WHO WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND TRY TO BE HELPFUL AND TOLD ME TO TAKE A BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK A BACK LEFT IT FOR TWO DAYS AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE OUTCOME WAS THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I SHOULD HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND NOT TURN IT ON. I AM VERY CONCERNED I AM WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING AND HAVING SOMEONE CRASH IN TO ME IF MY CAR STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I HAD A TOYOTA BEFORE AND IT WAS FINE BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU IF I GET THROUGH THIS ONE WHICH IS A LEASE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE AGAIN

ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION I WAS GOING BETWEEN 5-10 MILES AN HOUR AND THE CAR SPUTTERED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO SHUT OFF. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE AND THE TOLD ME THE COMPUTER DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING IT. ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR WILL MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND. AGAIN THE DEALERSHIP DENIED A PROBLEM. THESE ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES

ENGINE ABNORMAL SHIFT DOWNWARD WHILE DRIVING REGULARLY. I FEEL THE SHIFT IS NOT SMOOTH EVEN FEELS LIKE A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE SHIFT SYSTEM 17,000 MILES MOSTLY HAPPENS REGULARLY DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND A BIT LESS HAPPENS ON THE PARKWAY BUT DOES HAPPEN. THE SHIFTS ARE HARD TO IGNORE I REMEMBER THE VERY TIME I FELT IT ON 10,000 MILES AND IT WOULD ABLE OCCASIONALLY AND NOW IT'S HAPPENING EVEN MORE FREQUENTLY THAN I CAN POSSIBLY SAY THIS IS AN ONGOING DEFECT AND GROWING TO BE A PROBLEM EVEN MORE SO.
