Silver paint is peeling off the hood, bumper, doors, ect
While towing my boat, the rear frame to which the trailer hitch is a part of, ripped down both side of the frame. Basically, the rear frame of the truck is barley holding on by rust. The hitch and frame section are dangling down. Rust has completely eaten through the entire frame after closer inspection.
The fj cruiser is a common issue for rot/ rust on the frame of the vehicle, I have clean the frame often during the winter months and my frame is continuously rusting and rotting the frame of the vehicle I have decided to not drive the vehicle till the frame is either replaced or repaired due to the safety concern of driving it on the road, numerous others have same incidents of the holes in the frame due to rust the manufacturer did not put any kind of corrosion treatment on the frame to stop this from happening the frame flexes when accelerating and is not safe for anyone to including my passengers or other people on the road
Frame rust prematurely affecting integrity of the rear lower control arm mounts. Back half of frame almost completely rusted through requiring a full frame replacement.
I recently purchased the used 2007 Toyota FJ with 101,000 miles. During maintenance and inspection, it was found that the fuel tank straps are rusted out and need to be replaced. The rear brake lines are rusted out and need to be replaced. The frame is severely rusted out and failing at the factory welds. I was referred to submit a report and investigate filing a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer for negligence, as this is apparently a known issue. I am hoping that the will reach someone that is able to help all the owners with the same issues as this should be recalled and repaired to prevent unnecessary injury or death. This is a huge financial burden for those expecting a quality vehicle that will be safe. Failing brakes, loose gas tanks and weakened frames are recipe for disaster.
The frame on my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser has severe corrosion, compromising it's roadworthiness and the safety of occupants. It is available for inspection. Frame would not protect occupants during a crash, and may fail during normal operation. The problem has been confirmed by two independent mechanics. It has not been further inspected. There were no warning lamps or symptoms until discovered by mechanic. Anecdotal information seems to indicate broad and serious corrosion problems with FJ Cruiser frames, but no warnings, recalls, or service bulletins have been issued.
This is a 2007 vehicle I have owned since 2009. One of the two Fuel Tank straps broke in April of 2021. This left one strap holding the tank in place. This happened while driving allowing the tank to drag on ground. I stopped before it became a more serious problem. The strap was completely rusted through. Both straps were replaced. The remaining strap had serious rust as well.
I was planning on trading in my FJ Cruiser, so I took it to our local mechanic to look it over. After he put it on the lift, he showed me that the frame and gas tank straps were rusted out and that it wasn't safe to drive. I took it to another body repair shop and after putting it up on the lift, he said he has never seen a frame so rusted out in his twenty five years of doing body work. I contacted Toyota and they said they would NOT repair the frame.
Backing out of my driveway we heard a slight pop and a dragging feel on the right passengers front.( thought I ran over a landscape brick) Stopped and inspected nothing was under the vehicle starting to leave my complex vehicle started to shake some. When I got up to 20 MPH it was obvious I should not drive. Called tow truck. Thought I needed ball joints or something similar. Mechanic said frame was completely rusted out and unfixable. The Toyota FJ cruiser is suppose to be a tough off road SUV which I never used for off road driving They even advertised how tough the frame is in commercials . I see there has been recalls for other Toyota models of SUV and trucks of the same year and their is a class action lawsuit already started I think in California. If I would have continued to the freeway A serious accident would had happened. I contacted Toyota and opened a case # [XXX] which after two communications they closed because there is no recall on the vehicle. The car is in great condition other wise. A frame should last more than 15 years on a truck \SUV designed for off road driving . her are some details of the pending lawsuit: Plaintiffs allege that a manufacturing defect causes excessive rust and corrosion to the frames of 2007-2014 FJ Cruiser vehicles. The suit claims the defect weakens the structure of the vehicle, therefore posing a serious safety threat to vehicle occupants. In some cases, vehicles failed to pass safety inspection and are no longer safe to drive. As a result, owners find themselves stuck with a vehicle that is no longer legally allowed on the roads with a greatly diminished resale value. Toyota Activity Marketed the FJ Cruiser with Special “Electrocoat Deposition” Rust Protection Coating Despite Toyota’s marketing highlighting the “Electrocoat Deposition” protective coating, plaintiff’s claim FJ Cruiser frames prematurely rust and corrode at an accelerated rate. The suit states Toyota had been aware of the frame defect, but fail INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFOR
I was hauling a hitch hauler in my hitch which was carrying a portable fish house that weighed approximately 80 lb. As I was leaving the parking lot, I heard a loud clunk noise in which when I look back the hitch hauler and my fish house were laying on the road. The vehicle behind me had to swerve out of the way. I had to haul the fish house to the side of the road and as I was inspecting my vehicle realized the hitch and the frame were cracked and not usable. I had to leave my equipment there because I had no way of hauling it back. I brought the truck to an auto body repair shop and there he told me that I have extensive damage and my frame was rotten. I paid him to repair the damage to the best of his ability. He said that the frame was too bad and that I would have to bring it to another specialist. Since then the front body mounts have rotted off.
Frame is rusting out.
Frame rust has become a major safety issue even though we do rust prevention twice a year.
The frame has rusted to the point the car is not driveable. This is caused by the rust protectant that Toyota used on their FJs frames.
Massive amounts of rust underneath the car on the frame and pretty much everything is affected around it. Concerned for my families safety…Toyota needs to address this immediately!!!
Structural frame rust. I have already had to have plates welded in to support stab links. Also a gas tank strap had to be replaced because it had rusted through.
Excessive frame rust eventually leading to catastrophic failure.
Possible structural frame rust. Just like every other FJ cruiser Toyota has built. I’m making this complaint in hopes that the NHTSA will force Toyota to recall FJ cruiser frames due to the amount of FJ cruisers that have the same frame rust issue.
Frame Rust, I just spent about $6000 for upper engine repair only to find out that the shop has now reported that the frame on the 2007 FJ Cruiser is not safe to drive any longer. Frame is rusted through multiple locations on the frame from side to rear - Frame is so bad that if I hit a bump just right It could cause an accident. I washed vehicle weekly to prevent rusting, it did not help. I am not reporting engine repair I am reporting the Frames rusted through issue and now I have no money to buy a vehicle and no vehicle to drive. Toyota has recalled other vehicles with this known issue but not the FJ Cruiser why, They even lost the law suite for frame rust Issues, They should be accountable for these vehicles as well. I was quoted approx. $2000 more to fix the frame.
My vehicle has 125,000 miles. it runs and drives and its like new inside and out. The problem is ,the whole bottom side and frame is rusted out like if it was a 50 year old car. Tacoma have a recall for this Nd fj cruisers have the same frame as tacoma.
Per mechanic who put a new muffler on said the frame is so rusted it wouldn’t pass inspection!
Took the vehicle in for maintenance at a service center. The mechanic expressed his concern with the amount of rust on the frame on the passenger side and told me that it will soon be a safety concern. He showed me by pulling chunks off of frame with his fingers. The vehicle now sits in the garage.
Structural Frame Rust making vehicle unsafe to drive. Gas tank straps rusted completely through as well.
Undercarriage of vehicle was not properly rust coated by manufacturer. Undercarriage is so rusted that my mechanic advised it may need a new frame.
My recently purchased Toyota FJ Cruiser was found to have severe rust underneath the car . Nuts and bolts have rotted away with the part now held together by rust weld. New straps are holding up a dented gas tank which my mechanic thinks fell when the original straps failed. Is it a safety issue when a gas tank falls off a traveling vehicle? I don’t know what other problems may arise from this, but I have been online and there seems to be complaints of this nature all over the internet. Toyota ordered a recall on several models for this problem, but not the FJ. This many people can’t be making this stuff up. At some point it is going to lead to a death, if it hasn’t already . Have only had this vehicle 2 weeks, and I find it hard to believe Toyota can’t address this problem like it did with other models of their fleet. One lady’s pickup bed almost separated from the front of the truck. Please use whatever tools you have to see that Toyota does the right thing, and takes care of the customers who are driving their vehicles.
Frame is failing and fully corroded/compromised. Combination of very poor steel Toyota used in manufacturing (during these model years) combined with Toyota’s placement of air conditioning condensation drain above frame on passenger side has resulted in a corroded and corrupted frame with dangerous and deadly loss of structural integrity.
Frame rust and fuel tank strap rust
recently purchased used from dealership. Excessive rust on lower frame and other components (transmission and power steering lines) as well as suspension. This is not a flood vehicle. Initially took it to Toyota for repairs of the lines and trans. The quote was too high, so I took it to local shops for repair. The local shops were surprised by the amount of rust. Trans was fixed but the shops refused to fix other components that attached to the frame because they fear they will cause more damage. Visited several FJ Cruiser forums and frame rust issues are incredibly common with the FJ, to the point where there are class action lawsuits. Toyota needs to step up and fix this issue for FJ owners!
Our 2007n Toyota FJ only has 135, 000 miles on it and runs well. We love the vehicle and have a severely rusted out frame. the truck has been adequately maintained but is now unsafe to drive. There are several large areas of rusted frame that are gone, motor mounts have fallen off the frame, the rear axle is barely hanging on because the rear frame is brittle. on the passenger side almost 3 feet of frame is gone from the underside of the vehicle. There is very little metal left to weld to making repairs not possible. Toyota Corperate refuses to assist us and we are stuck with a vehicle that is near total failure.
Frame has very premature rust issues. Structure of the vehicle is comprised due to well known issue of poor frame coating during manufacture of vehicle.
MY VEHICLES FRAME/ SUSPENSION HAS DETERIORATED TO THE POINT THE TOYOTA DEALER WONT PASS IT FOR SAFETY INSPECTION. THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION HAVE DISINTEGRATED. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE NEW AND IS IN OTHERWISE PERFECT CONDITION.

SEVERE FRAME RUST! I POKED MY FINGER THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRAME THIS MORNING. MOST ALL SCREWS, MOUNTING BRACKETS ETC ARE ALL RUSTED. OTHER COMPONENTS LIKE THE REAR DIFF, OIL PAN ETC ARE ALL COVERED IN RUST

FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTED, AS WELL AS MULTIPLE AREAS IN FRAME RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. ONCE VEHICLE WAS PUT ON A LIFT, MECHANIC SAID GAS TANK STRAPS NEEDED REPLACED AS WELL AS SOME REPAIR TO THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME.

I PURCHASED AN AUXILLARY GAS TANK ONLINE FROM A COMPANY CALLED 'TITAN FUEL TANKS' FOR MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WEBSITE: HTTPS://TITANFUELTANKS.COM/CATALOG/PRODUCT/VIEW/ID/78/S/TITAN-TRAIL-TREKKER-II-4040387/CATEGORY/2/ I'M A BIT CONCERNED THAT THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD. THEIR WEBSITE SAYS: "SOME LIGHT FABRICATION MAY BE NEEDED ON STOCK/OE CARRIERS FOR FITMENT OF TANK"FOR ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS. I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT A "LIGHT FABRICATION" SOLUTION. I FELT (& MY BROTHER FELT) THAT TO CUT OUT SOME OF THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE CARRIER IN ORDER TO MAKE THE PRODUCT WORK (THE COMPANY'S SOLUTION) WOULD LEAVE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY STRUCTURALLY DEFICIENT. I HAD TO GO TO A LOCAL WELDER AND HAD A NEW SPARE TIRE CARRIER BUILT. TO HAVE TO DO THIS WAS MUCH MORE THAN 'LIGHT FABRICATION' AS STATED IN THE AD. THEIR SITE SAYS 'IT FITS THE STOCK SPARE TIRE CARRIERS (SOME MODIFICATIONS MAYBE REQUIRED) AND MOST OF THE POPULAR AFTERMARKET TIRE CARRIERS, THE TANK COMES WITH ALL OF THE HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL BRACKETRY, FASTENERS, AND ACCESSORIES FOR EASY MOUNTING ON YOUR OFF-ROAD RIG.' THIS WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE AT ALL. 'EASY MOUNTING!' WHAT A JOKE. NOTE THAT THE IMAGES ON THEIR WEBSITE SHOWED THEIR PRODUCT SITTING SNUGLY BEHIND THE SPARE TIRE. MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS SHOWN AS BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE PRODUCT ATTACHED TO IT. *SEE JPG IMAGES: WEBSITE AD.JPG, IMG_E6603, IMG_E6604. I'M A BIT CONCERNED THAT THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD. AFTER MOUNTING AT THE DISTANCE THE SPARE TIRE WOULD NORMALLY HAVE BEEN MOUNTED AT, ONE CORNER OF THE TANK TOUCHES THE HANDLE USED FOR OPENING THE BACK DOOR OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT RUB A HOLE IN THE TANK. THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR OTHER REASONS, IF YOU WERE TO INVESTIGATE. *SEE JPG IMAGES: IMG_2912, IMG 2917. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BOTH STATIONARY AND MOVING.

2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER HAS THE SAME ROT PROBLEMS AS THE TACOMA AND SEQUOIA...THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE USA AND TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON ROTTING FRAMES.I CAN'T EVEN HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED IT IS SO DECOMPOSED. I AM FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY WANT ME TO CALL THEM? HOW ABOUT KEEPING THIS INFORMATION IN WRITING MAYBE FOR A FUTURE LAWSUIT.

SEVERE SUSPENSION BRACKET RUST ON MULTIPLE REAR AND FRONT COMPONENTS. I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WHEN BRAKING BUT MY ENTIRE CAR SWAYED WHEN THE REAR LATERAL SUPPORT BAR BRACKET BROKE RIGHT OFF THE MOUNT THAT IS WELDED TO THE REAR DUE TO RUST. I THEN INSPECTED AND FOUND MULTIPLE RUST AREAS ON FRAME AND OTHER SUSPENSION BRACKETS. MAKING THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AWARE OF TOYOTA'S ONGOING DILEMMA WITH USING THIS HORRIBLE UNTREATED STEEL AND HOPE THE NHTSA ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL CORROSION THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NEGLECT IN SAFETY BY NOT HAVING THIS STEEL TREATED ON SUCH CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF A VEHICLES FRAME. HAD THIS INCIDENT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH OR GREATER. SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER HAVING THIS ISSUE ON TOYOTA FJ CRUSIER VEHICLES. I HOPE THE NHTSA ENFORCES A RECAL ON THESE FRAMES AND/OR CRITICAL SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. MY VEHICLE IS 16 YEARS OLD, I PURCHASED IT FROM A DEALER WHOM RECIEVED IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH 57,000 MILES ON IT. NOW CURRENTLY AFTER 4 YEARS OF OWNING THIS FJ CRUISER I ONLY HAVE 71,000 MILES ON IT. HAD THIS BRACKET CAUGHT ONTO MY BRAKE LINES WHICH IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BELOW THIS REAR BRACKET I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL ABILITY TO STOP MY VEHICLE.

FUEL TANK STRAP RUST
Mileage: 113,000
FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS HAVING WHOLE SPOTS AND UNSAFE THE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE IS NO RECALL IN THIS VEHICLE. EVEN THERE IS FRAME RECALLS FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CARS. WHY NOT MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE RECALLS. I WANT TO GET INTO BOTTOM OF THIS.
THE ENTIRE FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED TO THE POINT OF BEING UNSAFE. THE CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY WASHED AND WELL MAINTAINED. ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ARE IN GREAT WORKING ORDER, BUT THE CAR NOW NEED EXTENSIVE FRAME REPAIRS TO REMAIN ROAD WORTHY. IN ADDITION, THE STRAPS HOLDING THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE RUSTED THROUGH AND NEARLY CAUSED THE TANK TO FALL OUT OF THE CAR.
HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 4 YEARS AND RUST ON FRAME HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORST. VEHICLE HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO REAR SUSPENSION LIKELY TO COLLAPSE DUE TO HOLES IN FRAME. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND IF VEHICLE WHERE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT THE WHOLE STRUCTURE COULD COLLAPSE. VERY UNHAPPY WITH TOYOTA EXPERIENCE.
Mileage: 177,000
2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FRAME ROTTING FROM INSIDE AND OUT. REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM MOUNTS RUSTING LOOKING LIKE ITS ABOUT TO BREAK OFF. UNSAFE TO DRIVE. 13 YEAR OLD FRAME SHOULD NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR THIS CONDITION.
Mileage: 90,000
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION BEYOND REMOVING THE LAYER OF UNDERCOATING THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD APPLIED I NOTICED THAT THE REAR MOUNTS TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAVE RUSTED AND BROKEN COMPLETELY OFF. FRONT AND REAR BODY MOUNTS ARE RUSTED WITH HOLES THROUGH MOST OF THE BRACKETS. NUMEROUS SPOTS IN THE FRAME ITSELF HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND SOME SPOTS HAVE REQUIRED PATCHING ALREADY. THE TRAILING ARMS ARE ALSO RUSTED THROUGH AS WELL AS THE SKID PLATE AND WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE FRAME AND THE RADIATOR SUPPORT IS RUSTED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE IS NOT CURRENTLY INSPECTABLE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING IN THE CONDITION THAT IT IS IN.
Mileage: 202,896
THE RUST ON THE FRAME IS MIND BLOWING. RUST HOLES IN FRAME AND GAS TANK STRAPS, AND SUSPENSION PARTS. THIS IS DANGERS AND SOMEONE CAN BE INJURED OR DEAD. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FROM EBAY FROM A FELLOW IN NEW JERSEY. I WAS NOT TOLD OF ANY FRAME RUST PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE OR OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THERE BEING A COMMON PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE WITH OTHERS. UPON RECEIPT, I HAD THE VEHICLE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND GONE OVER BY A AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP OWNED AND MANAGED BY A PRIOR GENERAL MANAGER OF THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SHOP OF THE PRIMARY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. HE IS THE ONE THAT BROUGHT THE CONDITION OF MY FRAME AND ASSOCIATED PARTS AND FUEL TANK STRAPS AND BRACKETS TO MY ATTENTION. HIS OPINION WAS THAT MY SAFETY COULD BE COMPROMISED IF NOTHING WAS DONE AND APPRISED ME OF THE POTENTIAL COSTS.
Mileage: 146,200
FRAME RUSTED, REAR CROSS-MEMBER RUSTED, GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED, SUSPENSION RUSTED/COMPROMISED
FUEL TANK STRAP RUST. I NOTICED MY FUEL TANK HANGING LOW ONE DAY. TURNS OUT A FUEL TANK STRAP HAD RUSTED IN TWO. I HAD SOMEONE WELD THE STRAP BACK TOGETHER TO HOLD MY FUEL TANK IN PLACE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN NOTICED. IN THE ATTACHED PICTURE YOU CAN SEE THE WELD REPAIR THAT IS NOW HOLDING THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE.
Mileage: 165,500
STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST. THE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND THIN WITH LOTS OF HOLES IN IT. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER IS EXTREMELY RUSTED AND WOULD NOT HOLD IN A REAR END COLLISION. IN THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE FREE WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH AND SENT THE TRUCK OUT OF CONTROL IN TO THE NEXT LANE.LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND SLOWING DOWN KEPT IT UNDER CONTROL. THIS WAS ON A SMALL HIGHWAY WHILE SLIGHTLY TURNING LEFT.

MY FRAM IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM
THE FRAME OF MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER IS RUSTING UNCONTROLLABLY. IT WAS "DESCALED" AND SPRAYED WITH PROTECTING FLUID. THE DESCALING REVEALED SIGNIFICANT FRAME RUST. MY PASSENGER REAR SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY AND THE SHOCK HAS BECOME FREE FROM THE FRAME. I HAVE YET TO GET AN ACCURATE ESTIMATE OF THE DAMAGE BUT WILL SOON
Mileage: 144,000
MY FRAME HAS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST AND I AM CONCERNED THAT IT IS GOING TO BEGIN DETERIORATING.
Mileage: 100,000
FRAME HAS A LOT OF RUST. THE STRAPS TO HOLD THE GAS TANK BROKE DUE TO RUSTING. REAR BUMPER FRAME HAS ALSO RUSTED.
Mileage: 150,000
PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINT FOR STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST AND WHILE REMOVING COMPONENTS TO SEE IF THAT'S REPAIRABLE I FOUND 1 OF THE 2 STRAPS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE TO BE 90% RUSTED THROUGH AND THE OTHER ONE NOT FAR BEHIND.
Mileage: 122,000
FRAME SEEMS VERY RUSTED AS DO SUSPENSION COMPONENTS
FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY JUST AS THE TACOMA FRAMES DID IN THIS TIME FRAME OF MODEL YEAR. AFRAID THE VEHICLE WILL SOON BE UNFIT TO DRIVE DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. GAS TANK STRAPS ARE ALSO ROTTING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS COME TO LIGHT WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AND MY GAS TANK STRAP BROKE CAUSING THE TAKE TO DROP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE
Mileage: 197,000
WHILE UPGRADING TO STEEL BUMPERS FROM THE FLIMSY PLASTIC CRAP MOST VEHICLES COME WITH THESE DAYS, FOUND SIGNIFICANT FRAME ROT. SOMEHOW THE FJ CRUISER IS NOT PART OF THE PREVIOUS TOYOTA RECALLS. I CAN ASSURE YOU THEY'RE AT LEAST AS SUSCEPTIBLE AS THE TACOMAS ET AL. I'M NOW ON THE HUNT FOR AN AFFORDABLE REPLACEMENT FRAME, WHICH SEEMS TO BE MERELY A PIPE DREAM. I LOVE THIS VEHICLE AND WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO REPAIR IT BUT, COME ON TOYOTA. THIS IS NOT WHAT THE MARKET EXPECTS FROM YOU!
Mileage: 122,000
ROTTED RUST ISSUE ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE.
CHASSIS HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. UPPER REAR CONTROL ARM MOUNT ON CHASSIS RUSTED OFF. CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN BRAKING. REAR BUMPER SUPPORT HAS HOLE IN FRAME FROM RUST. BODY MOUNTS ARE RUSTING OFF FRAME. BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED AND LEAKED FLUID. GAS TANK STRAP MOUNT IS VERY COMPROMISED BY RUST. FRONT RADIATOR SUPPORT EXCESSIVE RUSTING NUMEROUS SOFT SPOTS AND HOLES. MAJOR FLAKING , AND DELAMINATION OF FRAME ALL OVER. TRUCK HAS 98,000 MILE ON IT IT IS A MANUAL 4WD. LOCATED IN MICHIGAN.

Mileage: 110,000
2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THERE IS WIDESPREAD AND SIGNIFICANT RUSTING ON THE FRAME AND DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS. WELL-MAINTAINED, AND NOT LOCATED IN A SALTY ENVIRONMENT, NOR AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE ROADS ARE EVER SALTED. THIS VEHICLE IS UTILIZES THE SAME FRAME AS ANOTHER TOYOTA VEHICLE (4RUNNER), AND THAT VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED WITH THE FRAME-RUSTING RECALL DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED.
Mileage: 75,000
MY VEHICLE HAS SUBSTANTIAL FRAME ROT IN THE REAR SECTION OF THE FRAME AND THE REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CUT OUT ROTTEN SECTIONS OF THE FRAME AND WELDED IN STEEL PLATES TO KEEP THE FRAME FROM COLLAPSING. I HAVE ALSO BOUGHT A NEW SECTION OF FRAME FROM TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE BUMPER REINFORCEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ON FJ CRUISER FRAMES AND THAT THE FRAMES ARE NOT FAULTY. BUT THE AMOUNT OF FRAME ROT ON THIS 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE SEEMS EXCESSIVE. I AM AFRAID THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD COLLAPSE IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION. SO FAR, NO COMPONENTS HAVE FAILED OR FALLEN OFF DURING DRIVING.
Mileage: 120,000
THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WE'RE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT . I FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I NOTICED MY TANK WAS HANGING DOWN AFTER ARRIVING AT A DESTINATION . I DROVE HOME CAREFULLY AND JACKED THE VEHICLE UP CLIMBED UNDER TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE STRAPS WERE DISINTEGRATED. I NOTICED HOW RUSTY THE FRAME WAS LOOKING SO I POKED IT WITH MY FINGER AND MY FINGER WENT RIGHT THROUGH . I HAVE TAKEN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE BUT NOTHING COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRAME RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND IS MOST LIKELY A DESIGN FLAW IN ENGINEERING BY TOYOTA .
Mileage: 285,000
WHILE INSPECTING EXCESSIVE RUST FROM MY FRAME AND THE PARTS OF THE FRAME THAT HAVE FAILED (ALREADY REPORTED), WE NOTICED THE GAS STRAPS. THEY ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND OVER 3/4 BROKEN BECAUSE OF THE RUST.

EXCESSIVE RUST OF THE FRAME. HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE HOLES IN STRUCTURAL AREAS SUCH AS THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER WELDS MEETING THE FRAME. FAILURE OF THE FRAME COATING ALL OVER. FRAME ROT FROM THE INSIDE CAUSING HOLES FROM THE INSIDE OUT. ALSO RUSTING FROM AREAS SUCH AS CONTROL ARMS, REAR END LINKS, AND DIFFERENTIAL MOUNTS. WILL PROVIDE MORE PICTURES WHEN I HAVE THE AVAILABILITY TO DO SO.

DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. A BOLT SNAPPED OFF UNDER THE SEAT FOR THE MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE UP AND DOWN HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. THE SEAT WAS IN THE HIGHEST POSITION POSSIBLE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND AS A RESULT, THE SEAT DROPPED ABOUT 7-8 INCHES TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING A BACK INJURY FOR ME. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE DRIVER'S SEAT GEOMETRY WAS OFF SO SIGNIFICANTLY THAT THE BACKREST WAS RECLINED TOO FAR AND I COULDN'T SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD OR REACH THE PEDALS. I AM DISABLED AND IT IS A MIRACLE THAT I WAS' IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY VEHICLE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER INFORMED ME OF IT, EVEN THOUGH I HAD COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE SEAT LOSING ITS HEIGHT SETTING. NOW TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR THE SEAT BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR AND IT HAS 111,000 MILES ON IT. THE SEAT MECHANISMS BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING OVER A ROUGH SECTION O CITY STREET IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA AT ABOUT 12 MPH. I WAS DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN IT HAPPENED. I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME WITH THE BROKEN SEAT BECAUSE IT IS TOO PAINFUL FOR MY BACK INJURY.
Mileage: 111,000
A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS WORKING ON MY VEHICLE AND I HAD TO REMOVE THE REAR BUMPER THEN I FOUND THE CHASSIS DAMAGED BY SO MUCH DEEP RUST, THAT FOR A MOMENT I JUST THOUGHT TO BRUSH AND PUT AN ANTI CORROSIVE BUT THE DAMAGE IS NOT FIXED WITH BRUSHING AND PAINTING. I CALL TOYOTA FOR A FRAME RECALL AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY YET. MY VEHICLE IT'S NOT SAFE TO PULL ANYTHING. I ALSO FEEL THAT ONE OF THESE DAYS THE BODY CAN BE DETACHED FROM THE CHASSIS.

THE FRAME HAS RUSTED BEYOND EXPECTATIONS, WRONG KIND OF METAL OR LACK OF TREATMENT ON METAL CAUSING OXIDATION, CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE OF THE POWER STEERING BRAKING LOOSE AND CAUSING POTENTIALLY INJURIES OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS. VEHICULE IS AT HOME

RUST. UNUSUAL RUST EVERYWHERE IN MY 2007 FJ CRUISER. EVEN THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNTS ARE RUSTED. THE REAR BUMPER INSIDE, FRAME, REAR DIFFERENTIAL EVERYTHING IS EXTREMELY RUSTED. EVEN THE TRAILER LIGHT PLUGS ARE FALLING OFF DUE TO RUST. THIS IS A CITY CAR AND WE DON'T TAKE IT TO OFFROAD, AND BEING ONLY 74000 MILES, IT'S SCARY TO LOOK UNDER. IF GIVES THE FEELING THAT ONE DAY WHEELS MAY FALL OFF FROM THE FRAME. I HAVE SEARCHED IN THE INTERNET AND REALIZED THAT MOST FJ CRUISER OWNERS HAVE SAME ISSUE. WE PAID 30+ THOUSAND FOR A CAR WHICH IS FALLING APART WITH RUST IN 7 YEARS. HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY AT 30 MILES PER HOUR, IN A RESIDENTIAL STREET, WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A NOISE AND NOTED THAT THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A FIVE INCH CRACK, STARTING FROM THE BOTTOM CENTER GOING UP. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CRACK MOVED SIGNIFICANTLY, TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT OF THE WINDSHIELD MOVING TO COVER THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO PRIOR DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD, THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD. THE CRACK SEEMS TO HAVE DEVELOPED DUE TO PRESSURE STRESS- A DEFECT FROM MANUFACTURING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE WITH SIMILAR REPORTS, OFTEN TIMES, EVEN AFTER HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND MANUFACTURING ERROR.
Mileage: 80,000
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE. I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 24 MONTHS AND CURRENTLY HAVE 16,000 MILES DRIVEN. THE SAFETY PROBLEM IS THE DESIGN OF THE FJ CRUISER WINDSHIELD. I HAVE NOW REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD SIX (6) TIMES DUE TO SMALL ROCKS HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT THE VERTICAL POSITION OF THIS WINDSHIELD ABSORBS THE FULL IMPACT OF ANY ROAD DEBRIS AS OPPOSED TO DEFLECTING. OF THE SIX WINDSHIELD INCIDENTS, 2 OF THOSE HAVE BEEN SEVERE ENOUGH TO COMPLETELY PENETRATE THE WINDSHIELD AND IN TO THE PASSENGER CABIN. THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF A ROCK SHOULD PIERCE THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND INJURE OR DISTRACT THE DRIVER THUS POSING A SAFETY RISK TO OTHERS IN THE VEHICLE OR IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. IN ADDITION, THE IMPACT IS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT THE NOISE OF THE IMPACT POSES A DANGEROUSLY HIGH DISTRACTION. THE IMPACT IS VIOLENT ENOUGH THAT I WOULD EQUATE THE SOUND TO EXPLODING FIREWORKS OR A HANDGUN SOUND IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
