TAKATA RECALL I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA FOR MONTHS WITH NOTHING BUT VERY GENERAL RESPONSES, NONE OF WHICH, ADDRESS MY ISSUE, EXPLAIN TOYOTA'S POSITION, AND NEGLIGENCE, OR ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. AIRBAG RECALL. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET MY CAR FIXED SINCE OCTOBER. THE DEALER CANNOT GET THE PART. EACH TIME I CALL THE DEALER THEY SAY THE PART HAS NOT ARRIVED. CALLED THE TOYOTA SAFETY RESOLUTION TEAM ON 11/23 AND THEY HOOKED ME UP WITH DEALER. SAME STORY, PART IS ON ORDER BUT MAY BE MONTHS BEFORE WE GET THE PART.

TAKATA RECALL - I RECEIVED A LETTER SEVERAL MONTHS AGO INFORMING ME MY MATRIX WAS RECALLED FOR THE AIR BAG INFLATORS. I WAS TOLD I'D BE CONTACTED WHEN THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. AFTER HEARING NOTHING, I WENT TO TOYOTA'S WEBSITE. IT SAYS THE PART SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE IN MY AREA STARTING IN DEC. 2015. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER , & THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO THE REPAIR UNTIL THE END OF AUG. 2016. IT WILL HAVE BEEN ABOUT A YEAR & A HALF SINCE I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL - THIS IS A TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. MEANWHILE, THEY SUGGEST NO ONE RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE REPAIR IS COMPLETE. TOYOTA IS DOING A TERRIBLE JOB WITH THIS WHOLE THING.
I GOT A RECALL FOR THE AIRBAGS. I'M KIND OF WONDERING IF I SHOULD BE DRIVING MY CAR.
TAKATA RECALL - IN JUNE 2015, I WAS NOTIFIED BY TOYOTA THAT MY MATRIX HAD BEEN ADDED TO THE LIST OF VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THE TAKATA RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER TO SET UP REPAIRS. WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED AGAIN ONCE THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. I HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION THAT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, NEARLY 10 MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL NOTIFICATION. WHAT TROUBLES ME IS THAT IN THE LATEST LETTER IT STATES " UNTIL THIS REMEDY IS PERFORMED, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT." WHY DIDN'T THEY MENTION THIS BEFORE? WHY DIDN'T THEY PROVIDE THE REPAIRS SOONER? WHAT IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WITH SOMEONE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR POSSIBLY KILLED. WHY ARE THESE LARGE COMPANIES ALLOWED TO PUT OTHERS AT RISK SIMPLY BY PERFORMING SOME SORT OF FAILURE ANALYSIS WHEN PEOPLES LIVES ARE AT RISK.

TAKATA RECALL. I WAS GIVEN THE NOTICE A FEW MONTHS AGO (AT LEAST 2) THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND TO AVOID HAVING SOMEONE SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TODAY (1-14-16) AND THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS UNREASONABLE TO TAKE THIS LONG FOR A SAFETY ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED AND TELL CUSTOMERS THAT THEY JUST SHOULDN'T HAVE A PASSENGER.

I CALLED THE TOYOTA RECALL HOTLINE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY FOR MY LOCATION, EVEN THOUGH I INFORMED THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY CAR WAS PURCHASED USED AND CAME FROM A BEACH AREA IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - A HUMID AND MOIST AREA. I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO ESTIMATED DATE WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN MY LOCATION BUT TO NOT ALLOW PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT SEAT. THIS IS CERTAINLY NOT REASONABLE AND VERY INCONVENIENT. THEY ASSURED ME THAT I WOULD BE RECEIVING WRITTEN INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL, WHICH WOULD BE MAILED OUT THAT WEEK, BUT HAD NOTHING ELSE TO OFFER IN TERMS OF ADDRESSING THE SAFETY OF MY CAR. TWO MONTHS LATER, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. WHEN I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE DEALER OR TOYOTA CORPORATE, THEY TELL ME THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT MIGHT BE BEFORE THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE OR THE TECHNICIANS TRAINED TO REPLACE THE FAULTY AIRBAG. TOYOTA ALSO REFUSES TO PROVIDE ANY REMEDIATION IN THE MEANTIME -- NO LOANER CAR, NO DISABLED AIRBAG, NOTHING. THE ONLY REASON I KNOW THAT MY CAR -- WHICH I SHARE WITH MY SON -- IS POTENTIALLY LETHAL IS BECAUSE I HAPPEN TO HAVE CHECKED MY VIN AFTER READING AN ARTICLE IN THE NEWSPAPER. I DROVE TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPT, ABOUT 10 MILES, LEFT ENGINE RUNNING UNTIL THE SERVICE WRITER COULD VERIFY THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON. I ASKED THAT THEY CHECK THE DRIVER AIR BAG SYSTEM BECAUSE THE LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. APPROXIMATELY 15 MIN LATER THE ASST SERVICE MGR CALLED ME STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER AIR BAG. I TOLD HIM THE WRITER VERIFIED THE LIGHT WAS ON AND REQUESTED THEY DO A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE DRIVER AIR BAG SYSTEM. $98.55 LATER THE PROBLEM WAS STATED TO BE IN THE DIGITAL CLOCK IN THE DASH. TOYOTA QUOTED $506.59 TO REPLACE THE DIGITAL CLOCK IN MY CAR TO MAKE THE DRIVER AIR BAG FUNCTION, SO I WOULDN'T DIE IN A CRASH!!! AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT SOMETIMES COMES ON AND STAYS ON. IF I STOP THE CAR AND REMOVE THE CAP FROM THE GASOLINE TANK FOR A MINUTE, THE REPLACE THE CAP AND RESTART THE CAR, THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES OFF. AIRBAG LIGHT MAY REMAIN OFF FOR MANY DAYS. AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT IN THIS FASHION FOR PAST 10,000 MILES. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY GAS TANK PRESSURE SHOULD AFFECT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT SENSOR SYSTEM, BUT IT APPEARS TO DO PRECISELY THAT. AIRBAG HAS NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED NO VEHICLE ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. HOWEVER THE NUMEROUS INTERNET COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON IN THE 2005 TOYOTA MATRIX AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES SUGGESTS A DESIGN DEFECT ON THE PART OF TOYOTA. 2005 TOYOTA MATRIX. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILED. *KB CONSUMER SENT IN DUPLICATE LETTER ON 12/27/2010. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER STATED HE PAID $ 114.19 TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM BY RECALIBRATING THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM RETURNED A FEW DAYS LATER. THE CONSUMER THEN PAID $ 559.42 TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM RETURNED WEEKS LATER. THE LAST REPAIR WAS IN THE AMOUNT IN $ 352.36 FOR THE CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY. *JB

THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STARTED COME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA MATRIX ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, AND THE WARNING LIGHT USUALLY WENT OFF IF I RE-STARTED THE ENGINE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO CHECK THE AIRBAG SYSTEM ON 2007, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. MY CAR ALREADY HAD OVER 36,000 MILES ON THAT TIME, THUS THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE WARNING LIGHT STILL CAME ON AND OFF OCCASIONALLY THEREAFTER. IN MARCH 2008, I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN I LOST THE CONTROL OF THE CAR DURING THE SNOWSTORM, AND I HIT THE FIRE HYDRANT AT A SPEED OF 35 MILES (MY CAR HAD 42000 MILES ON) THE CAR SUSTAINED A SEVERE FRONTAL DAMAGE, BUT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOYED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. IT COST MY INSURANCE OVER $9000 FOR THE REPAIRS. I IMMEDIATELY SUSPECTED THAT THERE MUST BEEN A COMPLETE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILURE ON MY CAR SINCE THE WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COME ON/OFF , SO I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE IF THEY CAN FIX THE FAULTY AIRBAG SYSTEM UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I HEARD "NO" AND TOLD THAT I HAD TO PAY FROM MY OWN POCKET IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE LIGHT SOMEHOW DISAPPEARED SOMEHOW SINCE THEN, SO I DID NOT BOTHER TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, I HAD ANOTHER ACCIDENT IN APRIL 2009 WHEN I HIT THE DEER ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY IN NJ. THE CAR SUSTAINED ANOTHER FRONTAL DAMAGE, AND CAR WAS NON-DRIVABLE. ONCE AGAIN, THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOYED AT ALL ALTHOUGH I WAS DRIVING AROUND 55 MILES. IT COST MY INSURANCE OVER $4000 TO REPAIR. MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS STARTED TO COME UP AGAIN RECENTLY, AND IT GOES AWAY IF I RE-STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN. I CHECKED MANY CAR SITES ON THE INTERNET, AND IN MY SURPRISE, I READ SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS ON THEIR VEHICLES (05 MATRIX). I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA'S AIRBAG SYSTEM, AND I'M NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE. SOMEONE REALLY NEED TO INVESTIGATE ON TOYOTA VEHICLES AND ISSUE A NATIONAL RECALL ON THEIR VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
