TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND METAL FRAGMENTS PASSED THROUGH THE AIRBAG CUSHION MATERIAL. AS A RESULT, THE METAL FRAGMENTS ENTERED THE CONTACTS EYE AND CAUSED A LONG TERM INJURY. THE CONTACT ALSO SUSTAINED A FRACTURED UPPER JAW AND NOSE INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED HAVING CONTINUAL DOCTOR VISITS FOR HIS EYE INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND TOWED TO JUNK YARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. "TAKATA RECALL" WE RECEIVED OUR RECALL NOTICE LETTER AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED OUR LOCAL AUTHORISED TOYOTA IN RHINELANDER WI AND WERE TOLD IT WOULD TAKE A FEW WEEKS FOR THE REPLACEMENT PARTS TO ARRIVE. AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THEM IN THAT TIME WE PHONED AGAIN, AND AFTER ONCE AGAIN GIVING OUR VIN AND INFORMATION , WE WERE TOLD WHO EVER TOOK THE CALL HAD NOT SUBMITTED THE ORDER . SO ONCE AGAIN WE ARE TOLD IT'S ON BACKORDER AND THEY WILL CONTACT US WHEN IT COMES IN SO THEY CAN SET UP A APPOINTMENT TIME TO FIX IT. THE RECALL NOTICE RECOMMENDED NOT HAVING A OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WE SHOULD BE PROVIDED WITH A SAFE VEHICLE BY TOYOTA TO USE WITH THE LENGTH OF TIME THIS IS TAKING UNTIL THIS IS FIXED.

TAKATA RECALL THE NHTSA IS AWARE OF THIS RECALL BUT MAY NOT APPRECIATE THE FULL IMPACT ON THE OWNER OF THE CAR. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING IT DUE TO THIS RECALL BUT THERE IS NO REMEDY. I CAN'T GET IT FIXED. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER AND ASKED WHEN REMEDY IS AVAILABLE NO ONE KNOWS. SO I SAID FINE LET ME TRADE IT IN AND BUY A NEW CAR. HOWEVER, SINCE THERE IS A RECALL THE DEALER SAID HE COULDN'T OFFER FULL TRADE IN PRICE BECAUSE HE WOULD BE UNABLE TO SELL IT UNTIL THE REMEDY IS MADE. I CALLED BACK IN JANUARY OF 2017 AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS STILL NOT IN. TODAY 8/16/17 THE PART IS STILL NOT IN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. IN JANUARY THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL AND I STILL HAVE IT. I WOULD LIKE MY CAR BACK. BUT I DON'T WANT THE LIABILITY OF SOMEONE RIDING IN MY CAR OR ME IN IT WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING BEING KILLED AND TOYOTA NOT RESPONSIBLE SINCE I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE.

TOYOTA HAS BEEN SAYING THIS FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS LEAVING US WITH A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WE ARE UNABLE TO SELL. TOYOTA'S BEST ADVICE WAS TO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AND COME IN FOR A RENTAL WHILE WE WAIT, THEY HAVE BEEN OUT OF RENTALS FOR THE ENTIRE TIME WE'VE BEEN WAITING. I UNDERSTAND MOST OF THIS IS TAKATA'S FAULT BUT TOYOTA HAS DONE A TERRIBLE JOB KEEPING US INFORMED AND IS ALLOWING MY FAMILY TO DRIVE A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP COVERED IN THEIR BADGES.

MY FIANCE' AND I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA FOR A SAFETY RECALL TO REMEDY THE SPRIAL CABLE THAT CONTROLS THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. THE RECALL NOTICE TOLD US TO TAKE THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR FOR REPAIR THEY SAID IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED AND AFTER CHECKING WITH THE MANUFACTURER THEY STATED IT HAD BEEN FIXED ON MARCH 2, 2016 IN NJ. THE CAR WAS IN MARYLAND ON THAT DATE UNDER MY OWNERSHIP SO WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY COULD HAVE REPAIRED THE CAR. THEY WANT TO CHARGE US FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND POSSIBLY THE REPAIR SINCE THEY INSIST THAT THE CAR WAS ALREADY REPAIRED. WE HAVE AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT LOCATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT WILL NOT GO OFF. THIS WARNING LIGHT IS THE SAME LIGHT ON THE RECALL NOTICE. TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO FIX IT WITHOUT A FEE, AND THEY BELIEVE THEY HAVE ALREADY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE LIGHT REMAINS ON OUR CAR TO DATE. WE WOULD LIKE AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS MATER BEFORE SEEKING LEGAL COUNSEL TO RECTIFY THE SAFETY PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND DOES NOT GO OFF WHILE DRIVING THE CAR.

MATRIX REAR ENDED A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER AT ABOUT 35-40 MILES PER HOUR. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE MATRIX WENT UNDER THE MOUNTAINEER'S BUMPER. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MATRIX WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM. BOTH HEAD LIGHTS WERE PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE BUMPER WAS ALMOST DETACHED AND ON THE GROUND. THE CONSUMER STATED THE POLICE DID NOT WRITE UP POLICE REPORT. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THE AIR BAG SENSORS WERE FRIED, PROBABLY WELL BEFORE THE ACCIDENT.

WHILE THERE, I WAS INFORMED OF ANOTHER RECALL ON THE CAR, ON ITS BRAKES. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES WERE ADDRESS AND I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FEBRUARY 13TH. ON FEBRUARY 24 AT 7:45AM, I WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND ON I-90 IN WESTLAKE, OHIO; IT WAS SNOWING AND THE ROADS WERE WET, UNSALTED. AS I WAS ROUNDING A CORNER NEAR THE CROCKER BASSETT EXIT, MY CAR BEGAN TO SKID. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND ATTEMPT TO STRAIGHTEN MY CAR OUT, BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. I FIRMLY PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKES AND NOTHING HAPPENED; I THEN TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE CAR STILL DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN TO SPIN OUT AND TO THE LEFT. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AS HARD AND FAST AS I COULD, BUT THE BRAKES NEVER ENGAGED AND MY CAR HIT THE CEMENT MEDIAN AT 55MPH. TOYOTA ACCIDENT I DRIVE A LEASED 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX. AT 8:24 AM ON NOVEMBER 16, 2009. PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE BUILDING BOCA RATON. THE CAR WAS ALMOST STOPPED AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, WHEN THE CAR REVVED UP TO THE MAXIMUM, JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT A PALM TREE. I IMMEDIATELY SWITCHED OFF THE ENGINE. I WAS DAZED, AND AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES I GOT OUT THE CAR TO SEE THE DAMAGE. HAVING HEARD OF CAR MAT PROBLEMS, I INSPECTED THE MATS, BUT NOTHING WAS OUT OF PLACE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I WENT TO MY DOCTORS APPOINTMENT , BUT HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE I SAW THE DOCTOR, AS I DIDN'T FEEL WELL. DESPITE A LOT OF FRONT END DAMAGE, THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE, SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO MY HOME , BUT I WAS FRIGHTENED ALL THE WAY AS I THOUGHT THE CAR MIGHT DO THE SAME THING AGAIN IN TRAFFIC. WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED ALLSTATE AND REPORTED THE ACCIDENT. I TOLD THEM THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, AS IT ACCELERATED BY ITSELF, AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE.. PER INSTRUCTIONS FROM ALLSTATE, THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO ED MORSE CADILLAC FOR REPAIR OF THE DAMAGE INCURRED. A MOTORCYCLIST TRAVELING NORTHBOUND APPROACHING SPEEDS OF 60 MPH RAN A YIELD SIGN AND T-BONED MY 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX S 5 SPD MANUAL IN THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR AND BACK QUARTER PANEL. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT SPUN MY MATRIX 180 DEGREES SO I ENDED UP FACING WESTBOUND AT THE CURB. THE PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYED. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY AND I ENDED UP WITH A MILD HEAD INJURY AND A SPRAIN/POSSIBLE DISLOCATION OF MY LEFT SHOULDER FROM WHERE I STRUCK THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS WHY THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG CURTAIN FAILED TO DEPLOY WHEN I WAS T-BONED BY A MOTORCYCLE AT 60 MPH TURNING MY CAR 180 DEGREES TO FACE THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION I WAS TRAVELING. IN MY OPINION, BASED ON THE IMPACT, MY SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AS THE DIRECTION AND FORCE OF THE IMPACT WOULD OBVIOUSLY FORCE MY BODY IN THE SAME DIRECTION, NORTH, INTO THE SIDE OF MY CAR; THE SAME DIRECTION THE MOTORCYCLE WAS HEADED. THE FAILURE OF MY DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT LED TO A HEAD INJURY AND A SHOULDER INJURY; POSSIBLY A DISLOCATION OF MY SHOULDER. I AM AWAITING THE RADIOLOGISTS REVIEW OF THE X-RAYS TAKEN TODAY AT AURORA HEALTH CARE CENTER ON REED AVENUE IN MANITOWOC, WISCONSIN. TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE MY CONCERNS SERIOUSLY AND INVESTIGATE THE AIR BAG SYSTEMS IN THEIR 2009 MATRIX MODELS. *TR
