The brake actuator failed. When the car was diagnosed by the Toyota dealership, they identified the problem as an internal leak within the brake actuator. Luckily, nobody has been hurt attempting to drive the car, but it is still being driven to get it from home to the repair shop so anything is possible. The first symptom I could link to this was in 2023, when the car would not accelerate via the gas pedal after the brakes were pressed during cruise control. Turning off the car and turning it back on fixed the problem. Afterwards, the red brake symbol was turned on. From that point on, the brake light would only shine sometimes. leading me to believe there must not have been something wrong with the car, since nothing else happened after that. 2024 is when the red brake light and ABS symbol both lit up. The only information that I could find in the manual was to take the Prius to the Toyota dealership. I could not find details on the problem. I continued to drive the car regardless because there seemed to be no problem. After letting the car sit for a few months in 2025, I began driving it again, and it was fine. A month later, I turned on my car and was met with a loud beep that did not end. This was my final sign to take it to get repaired. The car has exceeded 200,000 miles. This fix is $3,205.40 at the dealership. My 2007 Toyota Prius is valued between $2k to $4k. The repair would cost more than simply buying another Prius.
Check engine light came on with codes C 1256 & C 1300. Primary issue is Brake actuator failure. Toyota is ignoring this known and repeated issue and it may lead to a dangerous/ deadly situation if brakes go out while driving.
Failing Brake Actuator Assembly. This is known issue by Toyota and they issued a brief warranty repair program, but have since stopped and refuse to fix the issue or provide assistance.
2007 Toyota Prius Brake Actuator needs replaced. ABS, Parking Brake, VSC light came on 2 weeks ago when driving down a highway.
There is a known, (by Toyota), issue with the ABS brake actuator in many Prius generations including the 2nd generation Prius that I own. My mechanic said it would cost @$3000 to fix. This as I said is and has been a known issue with these cars that affects the ABS braking and puts myself, my family and any one on the road near me in danger. Toyota was quietly replacing these under an unadvertised, extended warranty program. Mine is out of this so called warranty period but if this was a known issue and was corrected at no cost due to the fact Toyota knew there was an issue why was there never a recall on the affected models all with this same problem? I feel that this dangerous problem should be corrected by Toyota at no cost to the owners of their dangerous affected vehicles.
Brake Actuator system (ABS) needs to be replaced with only 133K miles on my 2007 prius. I heard a sound and had a Toyota service center check for any issues. They told me it was the ABS system that needed to be replaced at a cost of $5K. The repair costs are greater than the car value. Toyota knows about this year, make, and model issue. I contacted Toyota Corporate about this this week and learned there was an extended warranty for this specific issue on my car. They refuse to honor the extended ABS system warranty even though I'm under 150K miles per the warranty. They told me a letter was sent to me about replacing it at no cost in 2017. I never received the letter nor did the Toyota service center I used at the time tell me about the issue. Additional Info: I am not driving the car since the dash lights have come on - red triangle, check engine, VSC and (!) symbol - with a circle inside the (). Noise checked at Toyota dealer service center and confirmed it's the brake actuator system No inspection by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep, or others The sound came first when pressing the brake pedal and then the lights came on after taking to the service center
Unknown I had just financed the vehicle 2-3 days prior.
Due to water infiltration from a poorly manufactured hatchback, water is able to get inside the "Supply Assy, Brake Control Power" module in the trunk of the second generation Prius. This part ultimately shorts out and fails causing a loss of regenerative braking and a "brake warning light". Toyota seems to be aware of the problem as a replacement module is now sold in a "water proof sheet" (see attached). Toyota has also moved this module to a different location (away from the rear wall of the Prius) in other hybrid vehicles (such as in the Camry where it has been moved forward). I wonder if the hybrid batteries in the Prius also fail due to water infiltration in the rear sections of these cars.

Toyota has admitted that their BRAKE ACTUATOR assembly on their 2007 Prius FAILS and they will fix it for no charge BUT ONLY IF YOU COMPLAIN. The brake actuator on my 2007 Prius is now failing and the braking system has become UNRELIABLE and UNSAFE. Toyota should replace my failing brake actuator with a new unit for no cost because this is a SAFETY ISSUE. I refuse to pay $3000 out of my own pocket to repair an item which has a long history of FAILING.
The abs actuator failed which caused the breaks to act up.also casue warning lights.and noise from the pump.it also can casue the hybrid battery to fail because it can't charge right
Brake Actuator Re. Vin: [XXX] On 4/13/21 my Toyota Prius '07 was diagnosed by Toyota of Hollywood of a bad abs actuator that needs to be replaced. The fact of the matter is that about 28 months before that on 2/14/19 the Actuator assembly was replaced by Toyota of North Miami after being diagnosed first by Toyota of Hollywood. The reason I choose to do the job in north Miami is because it was less costly. My question is how can a genuine Toyota part fail in just 28 months.? Many Prius owners have been experiencing this safety issue since 2018. The warranty enhancement program ended before the fact in 2017. And there seem to be a misprint because how can the Secondary Coverage end on the same date as the Primary Coverage? (2017) When you use the date of first use of a 2007 Prius. Under hard braking (over 50% of the pedal) the front passenger wheel applies all the force to stop the car to that one tire causing it to lose traction and skid. Brakes are insufficient to properly stop the vehicle and no warning lights are illuminated on the dash. Actually more than half of the time the whole dash does nothing, no MPH, no gas gauge, nothing but a blacked out information less panel. Then to top it off the car only has one headlight bc it blows what ever headlight I put into the ballast. 3 of the most common failures for a 2007 and my Prius has a grand slam assortment of serious potential life threatening problems that should have been repaired (never should have been assembled with) by Toyota. Minor wreck when attempting to stop the car under not driving conditions. Thankfully no one was hurt and only had to replace the front hood, bumper and radiator and support but have deemed the car as not road worthy and unfit for any driving conditions.
Abs vsc brake light on
When turning car on the car beeps loudly for 10-15 seconds. The brakes will randomly lock up. They do not always work properly on hills.
BRAKE ACTUATOR PUMP IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THIS GENERATION PRIUS AND TOYOTA HAS STOP OFFERING A WARRANTY BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE VEHICLE.

MY CAR HAS ONLY 65,000 MILES ON IT AND THE ABS ACTUATOR HAS FAILED. BEFORE GETTING IT REPAIRED, THERE WERE MANY INSTANCES WHEN THE BRAKING POWER WAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF, BUT NOT WILLING TO REPAIR. I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL.

TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS THERE IS A TSB, BUT THEY ARE CHARGING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR FOR A SAFETY CRITICAL ITEM THAT IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL.

MY WIFE AND I PICKED UP OUR 3 LITTLE BOYS FROM SCHOOL ON OUR WAY HOME AS WE GOT ON THE HIGHWAY WE HEARD THIS LOUD LONG BEEP SOUND AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT MY BRAKES WILL NOT WORK SO I BEGAN PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL MANY TIMES AND FINALLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO STOP. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THE MECHANIC CONCLUDED IT IS AN ABS/ACTUATOR PROBLEM WHICH TOYOTA IS VERY MUCH AWARE OF. THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA TO FIX IT FREE BECAUSE IT IS COSTLY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THE SITUATION AND THEY JUST DIDN'T CARE. NOW I HAVE NO CAR BECAUSE ITS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT. STARTED GETTING BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILURE NOISES IN MY 2007 PRIUS BACK IN MARCH 2020 AND TOOK IT TO THE WEST COAST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN LONG BEACH, CA. THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ABS SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH THE GRINDING NOISE I NOW KNOW IS COMMONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROBLEM WAS GOING OFF. THE OTHER DAY THE ABS LIGHT WARNING CAME ON AS WELL AS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT. I PULLED OVER ON WASHINGTON BLVD AND ARLINGTON IN LOS ANGELES AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE BRAKES AND TURNED THE CAR OFF IMMEDIATELY. FROM WHAT I'VE READ THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON! TOYOTA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY'S ON MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES TO 10 YEARS BUT THERE WERE NO RECALLS SO IF THIS PART MALFUNCTIONS A DAY AFTER THE WARRANTY THEN YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS JUST ABOUT THE MOST DANGEROUS PART TO FAIL. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT A HIGHER SPEED.

AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OVER THE BREAKS WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY LET ME KNOW IT WAS A PROBLEM THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT HAVING YOUR BREAKS GO OUT WAS GROUNDS FOR A RECALL. I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED CRASH WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STOP BECAUSE OF THIS.

WHILE DRIVING AROUND A CORNER ON CITY STREETS, BRAKING SUDDENLY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT, AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SKID WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. A HIGH-PITCHED ELECTRONIC SQUEAL CAME FROM THE DASHBOARD, AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, VSC LIGHT, AND MASTER WARNING LIGHT ALL TURNED ON. THESE ARE ALL LISTED AS SYMPTOMS OF A FAILED BRAKE ACTUATOR. AFTER CONTACTING A LICENSED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, I WAS DIRECTED TO THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT. AFTER BEING ESCALATED TO A SUPERVISOR, I WAS INFORMED THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT THAT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION THEY USED TO COVER IT EXPIRED IN 2017, AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACEMENT (~$3000). I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR A SAFETY RECALL, AS IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. IT WAS PURE LUCK THAT THIS DIDN'T RESULT IN A CRASH.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK NAVIGATING THROUGH BUSY TRAFFIC WHEN THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED IN MY VEHICLE. SO BASICALLY MY WHOLE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED, AND I WAS HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A STOP WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT SINCE I HAD NO BRAKES. BREAKS CAME BACK WITH WARNING SIGNS ON DASHBOARD THAT THERE IS A FAILURE IN THE BREAK SYSTEM, ABS AND OTHER. CALLED HILO TOYOTA DEAL MORE THAN 5 TIMES AND EACH TIME I GIVE THEM THE VIN NUMBER THEY HANGUP ON ME IN A RUDE WAY WITHOUT GIVING ANY EXPLANATION WHY THEY ARE CUTTING THE CALL. FROM THERE WEBSITE I MANAGED TO START A TXT MESSAGE AND ASKED FOR APPOINTMENT TO SEE WHAT'S WRONG AND PAID 170$ AND THE RESULT WHERE THAT MY BREAK SYSTEM HAVE A RECALL ON IT AND MY CAR IS AT 118 000 MILES SO THE RECALL EXPIRED IN 2017 AND THEY ASKED ME 3500$ TO FIX THE BREAK SYSTEM INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. AFTER MANAGING TO CALL TOYOTA MAIN OFFICE THEY STARTED A CASE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND ON MONDAY THEY WILL GIVE A FINAL ANSWER IF THEY WILL CHANGE THE FAILING RECALL BREAK SYSTEM OR NOT. ALSO I MANAGED TO CONTACT TOYOTA HONOLULU AND I KNEW FROM THEM THAT TOYOTA HAWAII IS A DIFFERENT ENTITY FROM TOYOTA MAINLAND AND THAT THE SAFETY RECALLS NEVER EXPIRED AND THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE BREAK SYSTEM INVOLVED IN THE REPORT NO QUESTIONS ASKED. HERE I AM REPORTING THIS TO NHTSA AS TOYOTA IS GAMBLING WITH PEOPLE LIVES WHO STILL DRIVING PRIUS WHICH MIGHT LOSE BREAKS AT ANY TIME AND MIGHT ENDUP IN DEATH RESULT. I HOPE NHTSA WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND ASK TOYOTA TO CHANGE ALL THOSE DEFECTED BREAK SYSTEM FROM MANUFACTURES BEFORE MORE AMERICAN FAMILIES DIES FROM BREAK FAILURE WHICH WHERE NEVER CHANGED BECAUSE THE DEALER PREFER PROFIT ON SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE.

IT IS A $3,000 REPLACEMENT THAT, UP UNTIL THE END OF 2017, TOYOTA WAS REPLACING AT NO CHARGE, BUT NO LONGER, UNDER A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM, ZG1, ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE. I WENT ON LINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2007 TOYOTAS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE JUST A VOLUNTARY "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT," BUT A MANDATORY RECALL TO FORCE TOYOTA TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. THIS DEVICE RUNS ALMOST CONSTANTLY WHEN IT SHOULDN'T, CREATES A DRAG ON THE CAR THAT HAS CUT MPG IN HALF, IS PROBABLY WEARING OUT THE BRAKES PREMATURELY, AND CAUSES DANGEROUSLY SLOW ACCELERATION FROM A STOP THAT HAS RESULTED IN SOME NEAR ACCIDENTS. I PRESUME THE ABS FUNCTION WOULD NOT WORK WHEN CALLED UPON. THE REPAIR COST IS ABOUT HALF THE RETAIL VALUE OF THE CAR, AND IT SEEMS UNFAIR THAT JUST BECAUSE THIS SHOWED UP AFTER THEIR PROGRAM ENDED, I HAVE TO FOOT THE ENTIRE BILL, OR JUNK A CAR THAT IS OTHERWISE IN PERFECT SHAPE. THERE ARE 150K MILES ON THE CAR, LOW FOR A TOYOTA OF THIS AGE. I HAVE ATTACHED THE TOYOTA ZG1 LETTER THAT I FOUND ON LINE. PLEASE CONSIDER AN IMMEDIATE RECALL ON THIS BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY AND MAKE TOYOTA FIX IT FOR EVERYONE.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER CAR TO WORK, AN AUDIO WARNING AND LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON INDICATING THAT THE ABS SYSTEM HAD A PROBLEM. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. SHE STARTED THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS HAD RESET AND NO SOUND. LATER IN THE DAY SHE STARTED HER CAR AND THE SYMPTOMS HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS MUSHY. I GOT THE CAR HOME AND LOOKED AT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND REPLACED THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT WORK. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE, TOYOTA HAD A ITEM CALLED A BRAKE ACTUATOR THAT SEEMS TO FAIL AFTER SOME TIME.AFTER READING SOME FORUMS IT SOUNDED LIKE THERE WERE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, THE PRECEDING VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY AND THE CONTACT'S BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO OPERATE. THE PARAMEDICS TRANSPORTED THE CONTACT TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE SHE SUFFERED FROM INJURIES TO HER CHEST AND BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SANSONE TOYOTA (90-100 US-1, AVENEL, NJ 07001, (732) 815-0500) WHERE THE BRAKES WERE SERVICED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL TOW YARD AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO CHECK THE VEHICLE'S BLACK BOX. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND ON THE BLACK BOX AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE COST TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM IS $3500-$4000. APPARENTLY TOYOTA CAME OUT WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS PROBLEM A WHILE BACK BUT LIMITED IT TO SITUATIONS OCCURRING PRIOR TO 12/31/2017. I CONTACTED TOYOTA "CUSTOMER CARE" IN AN EFFORT TO FIND OUT WHAT IS MAGICAL ABOUT THE 12/31/2017 END DATE. THEY HAD NO GOOD ANSWER. I'M TOLD THE BRAKES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING. CURRENTLY THERE IS JUST AN UNUSUAL PRESSURE RELEASE SOUND WHEN BRAKING AND ACCELERATING. NO DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS ARE LIT.

BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AFTER I REPLACED THE 12V BATTERY. I NOTICED THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE-EFFECT WAS STRONGER AND IT RESULTED IN THE CAR PULLING SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO TESTED THE CODES AND REPLACED THE ABS RELAY. THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND HE RECOMMENDED TOYOTA SERVICE. I TALKED WITH A TOYOTA SERVICE REP WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SOME PRIUS BRAKES AND ASKED THAT I GIVE HIM THE VIN. HE SAID THERE HAD BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE ABS BRAKE CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY BUT IT HAD EXPIRED SOME TIME AGO. HE SAID THE COST TO FIX THIS WOULD APPROXIMATE $3500. OTHERWISE THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND I WOULD EXPECT THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT ANOTHER 100,000 MILES OR PERHAPS MUCH MORE. A TYPICAL AMERICAN-MADE CAR WITH AN ABS FAILURE WILL STILL BRAKE NORMALLY - JUST NOT HAVE THE ABS FEATURE. THE PRIUS WILL NOT! THE TOYOTA SERVICE REP SAID IT SHOULDN'T BE DRIVEN AS IT IS TOO DANGEROUS AND MY EXPERIENCE CONFIRMS THE MALFUNCTION.

THIS PATCH WAS 500' OR SO AND PROMPTED ME TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR. I WAS APPROACHING 50 MPH, NOT FAST FOR THIS ROAD AND WAS IN NO HURRY. WITHIN THE TIME OF A BREATH, MY FRONT END BLEW SMOOTHLY TOWARD THE DITCH AND ME AND THE PRIUS CAME TO REST WITHIN 30' OR SO. NOW THIS LIGHT TO MODERATE CROSS WIND TOOK CONTROL OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR, 'NOT THE BACK'. THE POINT BEING, REAR WHEELS ARE FREE SPINNING, WHILE FRONT WHEELS HAVE A RATHER AGGRESSIVE BREAKING EFFECT. MIND YOU, NEVER CONSIDERED TOUCHING THE 'BREAKS'. IN ADDITION, I'VE LEARNED THAT DRIVING ON SNOW COVERED TOWN STREETS, THAT IT IS BEST TO POP THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND APPLYING THE SERVICE BRAKES, THIS ACTION WOULD PREVENT THE CAR SLIPPING OR SLIDING AT ALL. (3 MO. OLD MICHELIN DEFENDER TIRES) NOT DEDICATED SNOW TIRES, BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE, VERY GOOD. THIS TOWN I LIVE IN HAS VERY STEEP GRADES, I'M ABLE TO NEGOTIATE ALL OF IT COMING AND GOING. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT (STATE FARM CLAIM #[XXX]) WAS CAUSED BY THE OVERLY AGGRESSIVE REGENERATIVE BREAKING ACTION WHEN REMOVING ONES FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. ADDITIONALLY, I WOULD LIKE POINT OUT THAT A HOUR EARLIER WHILE DRIVING TO MY DESTINATION, I'D DRIVEN OVER MANY DRIFTING PATCHES AT VARYING SPEEDS FROM 50 TO 70 MPH WITH A STIFFER CROSS WIND. HOWEVER I COULD SEE THEM FAR IN ADVANCE. AFTER A LENGTHY GO-A-ROUND WITH TOYOTA OVER THE PHONE, THE RESPONSE WAS, THEY WILL TAKE NO ACTION ON THIS CAR OR IN THE FUTURE MODELS. IN FEB 2018 I NOTICED THAT SEVERAL LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY CAR THE VSC, ABS, AND PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT LIT UP. ALSO THE BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT. I HAD RECENTLY WENT FOR AND INSPECTION ON MY CAR IN JAN AND HAD BRAKES REPLACED AT MY LOCAL MONROE PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING SO I QUESTIONED THEM ON WHAT ALL THE LIGHTS MEANT AND THEY LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKE ACTUATOR FOR MY CAR. THEY ADVISED ME TO GO TO THE TOYOTA DEALER. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN A FEW WEEKS LATER IN MAR AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A LETTER SENT TO PRIUS OWNERS STATING THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON BRAKE ACTUATORS UNTIL END OF 2017. THEY HAVE IT IN TWO PHASES, AND IT'S UNLIMITED MILES UNTIL DEC 2017 FOR THE FIRST PHASE, THEN AFTER THAT IT'S 150K MILES/10 YEARS. IT ALSO SAYS THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT MUST BE ON FOR IT TO BE COVERED (IN OTHER WORDS, IT'S ONLY COVERED IF IT FAILS.) I NEVER RECEIVED THIS LETTER AND THE EXCEED THE 150K MILES BY 5K AND YEARS. THE CSR REP SAID HE WOULD SHE IF THEY COULD HONOR IT BEING THAT IT WAS SO EARLY IN THE 2018 YEAR ONLY A FEW MONTHS PASS THE DEADLINE BUT THE MANAGER ON SITE DECLINED AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. THE DEALER QUOTED ME $3,500.00 TO GET THIS REPLACED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND OF COURSE THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE LETTER STIPULATED A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME OF SERVICE. MY ISSUE IS THAT I #1 NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THIS RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY #2 I BROUGHT THIS CAR AT A DEALER CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED TOYOTA DEALER SO THEY SHOULD OF UPDATED MY INFO IN THE SYSTEM (ADDRESS, EX.) #3 MY CAR IS A ELECTRICAL CAR AND NEEDED THIS FIX TO OPERATE PROPERLY... TOYOTA SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR. A BATTERY REPAIR IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN, BUT THIS REPAIR IS ALMOST AS MUCH AS A BATTERY AND MAKES THE PRIUS NOT WORTH BUYING. THE VEHICLE ABS, RED TRIANGLE MASTER LIGHT, VSC, AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL TURNED ON AT ONCE AFTER A DRIVE OF 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER SKIDDING TO A STOP, I COULD CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS SYSTEM FAILURE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

DRIVING CAR ON THE FREEWAY IN THE FAR LEFT LANE. E-BRAKE LIGHT TURNED ON WITH THE LOUD ALARM SOUND AS IF I HAD ACTIVATED MY E-BRAKE. I LOST SIGNIFICANT BREAKING POWER AND WAS VERY LUCKY NOBODY STOPPED FAST IN FRONT OF ME WHILE IT HAPPENED. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND HAD TO RUN IT INTO A CURB IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD IT TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS FAILING. UPON CALLING TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE, I WAS NOTIFIED OF AN ENHANCED WARRANTY THAT EXISTED THROUGH 12/31/17. HOWEVER, I NEVER RECEIVED AN NOTICE OF THIS WARRANTY NOR HAD MY VEHICLE HAD ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO 12/31/17 THAT WOULD SUGGEST TO ME THAT THE CAR'S ABS NEEDED SERVICED. I AM UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND DESPITE TOYOTA'S NEGLIGENCE IN COMMUNICATING THE DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT TO ME, THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THE SITUATION.

IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION ON 08/08/2018, MY '07 TOYOTA PRIUS 2 FAILED TO STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP AND PARK INSTEAD IT ACCELERATED. DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT OF SEAFOOD CITY IN CERRITOS, CA, LOOKING FOR AN OPEN SPOT, I MAINTAINED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP A SAFE SPEED. APPROACHING AN OPEN SPOT, I CONTINUED TO KEEP PRESSING THE BRAKE WHILE ENTERING THE SPACE. AS I WAS STRAIGHTENING MY STEERING WHEEL AND APPLYING A HARDER BRAKE TO STOP, I FELT THE CAR ACCELERATE FORWARD, CAUSING MY INSTINCTIVE REACTION TO APPLY EVEN MORE BRAKING PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD UNCONTROLLABLY, JUMPING THE CURB OF AN ISLAND, HITTING AND KNOCKING OVER A PALM TREE (APPROXIMATELY 15' TALL) ONTO A PARKED VEHICLE (CAR #2) TO THE IMMEDIATE LEFT OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME (CAR #1). MY VEHICLE DROVE UP THE TREE AND CAME TO A SHORT REST ON TOP OF THE HOOD OF CAR #1, WHERE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME. IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING, AND REALIZING THAT I WAS STILL APPLYING A HARD BRAKE, TRYING TO GAIN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS DOWN THE TREE AND OFF OF THE HOOD OF CAR #1. THE CAR DIDN'T STOP ROLLING BACKWARD DESPITE MY FOOT WAS PRESSING HARD ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS THE COUSIN OF THE OWNER OF CAR #2 WHO REACHED AND PRESSED THE STOP WHERE THAT'S THE ONLY TIME MY CAR STOPPED ROLLING AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WAS THE WORST FEELING AS I WAS NOT IN CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE BRAKE DIDN'T WORK. I WAS SO SHAKEN, ME AND MY HUSBAND WERE DISCUSSING WHAT TO DO. WE IMMEDIATE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED, THEY GAVE US THE CORPORATE INSTEAD. THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE WAS INDORMED BUT WE BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING THIS CASE SERIOUSLY. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LONG SUSTAINED HIGH-PITCHED ELECTRONIC BEEP. THE LIGHTS FOR THE PARKING BRAKE, ABS, AND ANOTHER LIGHT I'M UNFAMILIAR WITH WERE ON. WHEN I PUMPED ON THE BRAKES, THEY FELT UNRESPONSIVE. I TRIED AGAIN BUT KEEPING DOWN ON THE BRAKE AND IT WAS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND. I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. AT SLOWER SPEEDS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BRAKES TO WORK, BUT SLOWING DOWN EVEN FROM LESS THAN 20 MPH TOOK SEVERAL YARDS. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY, BUT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN DECEMBER 2017. AS THE OWNER OF THE CAR, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS KNOWN ISSUE, AND NOT TOLD ABOUT THE WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD BEEN TAKING MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR SCHEDULED SERVICE. THE PART ITSELF IS OVER $2000, BEFORE LABOR, WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. SO I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS. AND I NEARLY DIED DRIVING WITH A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD HAVE WARRANTED A FULL SAFETY RECALL.

ABS ACTUATOR BROKE WHILE MAKING A LOW SPEED TURN (ABOUT 10MPH). THE CAR MADE AN ALARM SOUND, ALL THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT ON, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE CAR BECAME SLUGGISH AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. RESTARTING THE CAR MADE IT DRIVABLE AGAIN, BUT I NO LONGER HAVE ABS BRAKES, ONLY STANDARD. THIS PART IS APPARENTLY WORTH MORE THAN THE CAR TO REPLACE, YET IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT SAFETY EQUIPMENT.

WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT A BRAKE ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, BECAUSE THE WARRANT EXPIRED ON DECEMBER 31, 2017, AND I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW, THE ISSUE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL WARRANTY. I'VE NOW GOT A USELESS CAR, WHICH WOULD COST OVER $2000 TO REPAIR. BECAUSE THE BRAKES STILL WORK SOMETIMES, THE ACTUATOR HAS NOT FULLY GONE OUT YET, BUT THE CAR IS BASICALLY UN-DRIVEABLE. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MOREOVER, BECAUSE I WAS NOT HAVING THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW, IT'S UNLIKELY THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD'VE COVERED ME IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY BUT TOYOTA SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED LAST DECEMBER. I ESCALATED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT DESPITE THIS KNOWN DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THEIR CAR.

I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN MAY 2016 WHEN THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED AND WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE THIS POSSIBLE MALFUNCTION AND ALSO HAD WARRANTY FILLED BY THAT SAME DEALERSHIP WHEN MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT DARK IN AUGUST 2015 WHEN AGAIN, WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS ONGOING WARRANTY ISSUE. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY PERVASIVE FOR PEOPLE WITH 2ND GENERATION TOYOTA PRIUSES AND THAT THERE WAS A MISASSEMBLY OF THE BRAKE ACTUATORS IN THE FACTORY THAT CAUSES PEOPLE'S BRAKES TO DELAY OR FAIL COMPLETELY. TOYOTA PUT OUT A TSB TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT ENDED ON DECEMBER 31ST 2017. HOWEVER, SEEING AS HOW TOYOTA KNOWINGLY HAD A MISASSEMBLY OF THEIR OWN PRODUCT AND THAT THE BRAKES FAILING POSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A TSB IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE LACK OF REGARD FOR CONSUMER'S LIVES BY TOYOTA TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY CREATED, WITHOUT ULTIMATUMS, HAS LED ME TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT THAT THIS PRODUCT BE RECALLED AND REPLACED. THIS PROBLEM POSES A SAFETY RISK TO MYSELF AND ALL PASSENGERS THAT ENTER THE CAR WITH ME AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO PHYSICALLY INJURIES, BUT THE COLLISION CAUSED LOW/MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE SUV AND MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY PRIUS -- ENOUGH THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CLOBBERED, AND THAT MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. AT THE TIME OF THIS POST, THE REPAIR SHOP HAS NOT YET FINISHED EVALUATING IT AND REPORTING ON ALL THE DAMAGED PARTS AND THE ESTIMATE COSTS. PRIOR TO PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO, I HAD CHECKED FOR ACTIVE RECALLS BUT FOUND NONE, AND I CONFIRMED THE SAME SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE. APPARENTLY, THOUGH, TOYOTA HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM EVEN AFTER MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUCH A FAILURE DURING AN EMERGENCY NEED FOR A TOTAL STOP. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED AN INJURY TO THE RIGHT EYE, WHICH CAUSED SWELLING. THE CONTACT'S BOYFRIEND SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE CHEST AREA. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. AND EACH TIME I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA, THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS SHOWED NOTHING. THEY THINK IT COULD BE THE BATTERY BUT THEY DID NOT SUGGEST CHANGING IT. THE THREE EPISODES THAT HAPPENED, LUCKILY NO INJURIES OR CRASHES. BUT IT IS VERY CONCERNING AS I FEEL THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEY HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

I CALLED THE ONE 800 TOYOTA NUMBER AND IT TURNS OUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH SOMETHING CALLED THE COMBO METER ON THESE CARS AND IT HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A TOTAL OF NINE YEARS. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED THEY SAID APRIL 2016. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD COVER IF THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY.

MILEAGE ON VEHICLE AT THE TIME WAS 128,451. BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED AGAIN. THIS TIME VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHILE DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL STREET. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND ALARM WENT ON BRIEFLY. DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILING AGAIN. CURRENT MILEAGE ABOUT 170,000. LUCKILY BOTH TIMES NOBODY WAS HURT, NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED. I HAVE HAD SUCCESS IN RELIGHTING THE HEADLIGHTS BY TURNING OFF THE HEADLIGHTS AT THE MAIN SWITCH AND THEN TURNING THEM BACK ON. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. BREAKS ARE ALSO A MENACE: ON WET ROADS IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN USING THE BREAKS. IF YOU ARE BREAKING AND A TIRE GOES OVER A MORE SLIPPERY SURFACE THAN THE PAVEMENT, SUCH AS A MANHOLE COVER, THE ABS SYSTEM CUTS BREAKING TO ALL THE WHEELS SUCH THAT THE CAR CONTINUES ON AS IF THE BREAKS ARE NOT BEING APPLIED - THE CAR EFFECTIVELY RELEASES THE BREAKS AND YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR UNTIL ITS SYSTEMS DECIDE TO RETURN CONTROLS TO THE DRIVER. THIS HAPPENS OVER AND OVER AND OVER. TRY IT ON A ROAD WITH A BIT OF LOOSE GRAVEL ON IT OR THE LEFTOVER COARSE SAND FROM WINTER ROAD MAINTENANCE OR GOING THROUGH A MILDE POTHOLE WHERE GRAVEL HAS SPILLED ONTO THE ROAD....BREAKING IN THESE CONDITIONS WILL CONSISTENTLY CAUSE THE CAR TO DIMINISH BREAKING POWER TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT THE CAR IS NO LONGER LOWING DOWN. WE OWN 6 CARS OF VARYING MAKES AND THIS IS THE ONLY CAR THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS SAME ISSUE IS THAT IF YOU ARE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND A DRIVE WHEEL HITS A SLIGHTLY SLIPPERY PATCH, THE ENGINE POWER IS CUT FOR SO LONG AND SO SEVERELY THAT WE ARE AT RISK OF BEING HIT. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME. TOYOTA SERVICE HAS NOT OFFERED A FIX. THOUGH WE HAVE TOLD THEM ABOU THIS ISSUE REPEATEDLY, THEY TYPICALLY DO NOT WRITE IT DOWN AND TELL US IT IS NORMAL. THEY ALSO INITIATED AND PERFORMED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED WITH BRAKE FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED. CAMELBACK TOY. SAID THE BULB WAS BURNED. WHEN ASKED IF THEY REPLACED IT OR REMOVED THE DASH, THEY SAID NO. THE VEHICLE WOULD SLAM US FORWARD EVERY TIME WE PRESSED THE BRAKES. TOYOTA CAMELBACK RETURNED OUR VEHICLE WITH 14 SENSORS BURNED. TO THIS DAY, WE HAVE TO USE BOTH FEET TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THEIR REPAIR TECHS. THEY SAID RECALLS WERE PERFORMED UNTIL THEY FOUND OUT OUR VEHICLE HAD A SALVAGE TITLE. ALL WORK WAS STOPPED AT THE STEERING COLUMN (WHERE MOST BRAKE SENSORS ARE LOCATED). TO THIS DAY GIECO, BRIGHTON AND CAMELBACK TOYOTA REFUSE TO REPAIR OUR VEHICLE. EVERYDAY WE PLACE OUR LIVES IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THEIR FAULTY REPAIRS AND DAMAGE THEY CAUSED. NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE EVEN AFTER I FILED WITH BBB. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE. THERE SEEMED TO BE NO REACTION TO MY FRANTIC STEERING AND BRAKING IN THE ATTEMPT TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE ROAD. AFTER THE CAR HIT THE GUARDRAIL IT TRAVELED ABOUT 15 FEET SPUN BACK OUT INTO THE SOUTHBOUND LANE AND WAS HIT ON THE REAR RIGHT SIDE BY A CAR TRAVELING IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANE. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO BE PROPELLED ACROSS 2 NORTHBOUND LANES OF TRAFFIC AND COME TO REST WITH REAR OF MY CAR EMBEDDED INTO THE FAR SIDE GUARDRAIL. MIRACULOUSLY NO ONE WAS HURT. WE WERE EAST ON I-80 AT NEAR MILE 21, WHICH HAS NO EXIT (AS REPORTED BY TOW TRUCK DRIVER). SINCE MY INITIAL REPORT I USED SATELLITE IMAGES TO VERIFY THE APPROXIMATE AREA OF HIGHWAY TO MATCH WHAT I SAW WHEN I WOKE UP AFTER EXPERIENCING THE CAR DOING WHAT FELT LIKE HITTING A POT HOLE, BUT WHICH I NOW BELIEVE WAS A NEW RUN OFFSET RUN OF PARTIAL SHOULDER. SPEED IS AN ESTIMATE. MY WIFE WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PULL OVER AND CHANGE DRIVERS ON THE SHOULDER. I THINK SHE DID PULL ON THE SHOULDER AND THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED ON THE DIRT SIDE OF THE PARTIAL SHOULDER AND STEERED THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I OPENED MY EYES I COULD SEE THE CAR WAS HEADING BACK TO THE HIGHWAY, BUT THE CAR WAS AT SMALL SLOPE OF PERHAPS 20 OR SO DEGREES. SHE WIFE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED ON THE GRASS FOLLOWING THE CONTOUR DOWN THE SLOPE BUT FOLLOWED REFLEXES TRYING TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. I BELIEVE THAT IS THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE ROLL OVER, BUT IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE CAR STAYED ON THE PAVEMENT. ABS SHOULD NEVER ENGAGE WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT ONLY HELPS WHEN TURNING AND OTHERWISE HARMS. IN THE PRIUS EVERYTHING IS COMPUTER CONTROLLED AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED. I HAD ONE OTHER INCIDENT WHERE ABS BRAKES FROM TOYOTA CAUSED MY PRISM TO SPIN OFF THE HIGHWAY ON ICE WHEN I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD. THE PRIUS COMPUTER SHOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED TO RESTRICT THE STEERING RADIUS BASED ON THE CAR'S SPEED AND SIDE DIRECTIONAL SLOPE. THIS WAS A DOUBLY DESIGN PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT THAT NEARLY KILLED MY WIFE, WHO HAS NO RECALL OF THE ACCIDENT BEFORE RESCUE DUE TO INJURIES. WITHOUT REDESIGN ABS BRAKES SHOULD BE BANNED ESPECIALLY WITH BAD SHOULDERS.

THIS WAS SEMI-CONFIRMED WHEN REENTERING WYOMING WITH HIS OLDEST SON DRIVING AND SEEING SIMILAR PARTIAL SHOULDERS, BUT THE SON WAS UNWILLING TO DRIVE FARTHER TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE. THE PASSENGER'S BELIEVES THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO GO OFF THE SHOULDER, IN PART BECAUSE OF A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A GEO PRIUS LSI ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ON ICE THAT CAUSED WHAT WOULD HAVE NOT OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT VEHICLE DAMAGE. THE ALTERNATIVE EXPLANATION IS A DEFECT OR DEBRIS ON THE SHOULDER ITSELF. THE DRIVER TRIED TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING THE SLIGHT CONTOUR DOWN OF THE SHOULDER OUTSIDE RIGHT OF WAY AND THAT OR TRACTION CONTROL MAY HAVE CAUSED THE CAR TO LEAVE THE PARTIAL SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS LAST SEEN AT HP TOWING IN EVANSTON, WYOMING. IT WAS TOTALED AND TITLE WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO ALLSTATE INSURANCE. THE SEAT BELTS IN THIS CAR ARE TOO THIN AND TEND TO TWIST UP PREVENTING CONSISTENT SUPPORT. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC, HE STATES HE CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR THIS VEHICLE, TOOK TO TOYOTA, THEY STATED IT WAS THE 12V BATTERY, REPLACED, TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IF THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON THE ACTUATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR $2100.00.LIGHTS OUT ON DASH FOR LESS THAN 48 HOURS, CAME BACK ON, RETURNED TO TOYOTA, NOW A DIFFERENT TECHNICIAN STATES THE ECU AND THE ACTUATOR ARE IN THE SAME ASSEMBLY AND IT WILL COST $2869.73 TO REPLACE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IF WE DON'T WANT TO REPLACE IT RIGHT NOW THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE THE CONVENTIONAL BRAKES WILL STILL WORK JUST FINE. LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER, TOOK HER TO PICK UP HER GLASSES AND WHEN WE LEFT THE BRAKES DID THE SAME THING, THE BUZZING IN THE CABIN AND THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPED AFTER A LONG DISTANCE WITH NO DRIVER CONTROL. TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND ALTHOUGH THE SAME LIGHTS ARE ALL LIT UP ACROSS THE DASH THEY COULD PULL NO CODES AT ALL. WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED AGAIN THE LIGHTS WERE ALL OFF ALTHOUGH THE MECHANIC COULD NOT CLEAR ANY CODES. IT SEEMS NO ONE IS REALLY SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS OR IF THE CODES WHEN THEY DO SHOW ARE VALID CODES. I JUST KNOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND TOYOTA COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT IF THEY REPLACE THE ECU AND THE ACTUATOR THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED. THE DETAILS OF MY MISHAP CORRELATE TO THE TOYOTA RECALL NOTICE THAT TOYOTA PUT OUT REGARDING THE HYBRID WATER PUMPS. WHILE I STILL HAD HIM ON THE PHONE, WE LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE AND IT DECELERATED DOWN TO 30 BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO REACH AN EXIT RAMP AND STOP THE CAR IN THE GRASS. I WAS INFORMED TODAY THAT THE PROBLEM IS A LOW VOLT BATTERY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $299. AT NO TIME DID A LOW BATTERY LIGHT COME ON AND I HAVE NOT HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR NOR DO I HAVE DIM LIGHTS. WHERE THERE WERE NO SERVICES, AND NO OPEN BUSINESSES. I CALLED FOR A TOW WHICH ARRIVED WELL AFTER DARK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE TOYOTA OF KNOXVILLE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS CLOSED. ON SATURDAY MORNING I FOUND OUT I NEEDED THE BRAKE ACCUMULATOR REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR COULD BE DRIVEN BUT THEY DID NOT RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE THE INCIDENT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM FROM MARYLAND AND WAS ABOUT A 10-HOUR DRIVE FROM HOME. I DID NOT WANT TO RISK IT. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE AREA AND HAD TO BE ORDERED. IT WAS TUESDAY EVENING BEFORE THE CAR WAS FIXED. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED IN AN EMERGENCY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE KEPT MOVING FORWARD, WENT OVER A DIVIDER, AND CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. I EXPERIENCED A SCARY SITUATION WITH MY 2007 PRIUS TODAY. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT AND DSC LIGHT AND (!) LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE CAR ALSO MADE A LOUD BUZZING NOISE IN THE CABIN. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND IT WAS NOT VERY RESPONSIVE. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS AROUND BECAUSE I FELT HAD I NEEDED TO STOP ON A DIME, I PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO. I LOOKED AROUND ONLINE TO FIND IF OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THERE ARE PLENTY OF CASES WHERE THIS TYPE OF SUDDEN FAILURE HAS OCCURRED UNDER 2007 ABS TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKE MODULE COMPLAINTS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE ANTI SKID WAS ACTIVATED IT WOULD NOT RESPOND DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CONSUMER STATED AT FOWARD SPEED OF 0 MPH THE STABILITY CONTROL ACTIVATED, ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE THAT HAD 1 INCH OF SNOW AND AN INCLINE OF APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES. THE ANTI SKID LIGHT BLINKED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FOWARD UP THE INCLINE. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURED IN THE DEALER'S PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSTATED THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED.THE DEALER SUGGESTED THE CONSUMER SWITCH TO SNOW TIRES. UPDATED 06/04/2013 *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND ONE OF THE REAR TIRES SEIZED. THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE TIRE RETUNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ON DRY AND WET ROADS HAVE ADVERSELY EFFECTED BRAKING ON MY 2007 PRIUS FOR AS LONG AS I'VE OWNED IT (SINCE 10/2010). WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGES WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE WITH YOUR FOOT THE CAR SLIGHTLY ACCELERATES (OR JUMPS/LUNGES) FORWARD FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND BEFORE THE BRAKES THEN ENGAGE. ON 11/02/2012 THIS ISSUE CONTRIBUTED TO A COLLISION. WITHOUT THIS "GLITCH," I MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP MY CAR COMPLETELY (AS I WAS ALREADY ONLY GOING VERY SLOWLY). ON PREVIOUS VISITS TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT'S "JUST THE WAY THE CAR IS BUILT" AND THAT THERE'S NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE IT. *TR
