I own a 2010 Toyota Prius hybrid 4 door sedan. I am the second owner of the vehicle. I purchased it in 2018 from a used car dealer. The vehicle ran well up until 2022 where a “check hybrid warning would appear on the dashboard along with a yellow triangle and service engine light would come on and the vehicle accelerator would not respond and the car would have to glide to the side of the parkway. This problem would happen when the car speed is between 60-70mph. It is very dangerous to lose power on the highway because many times there is no where to pull over. In 2024 I changed the water pump because the fault code on the cars built in diagnostic code read error “P216B” which is the cars electrical water pump signal. I researched it on google and a lot of 2010 Prius owners are complaining of the same thing. Also the changed water pump from April 2024 died again in January 2025. It is very scary that the cars accelerator pedal goes unresponsive and all the fault lights come on. My vehicle has 155,000 miles runs great and my family loves the 40mpg it gets. However, this stalling problem is being ignored by Toyota and could lead to a fatal car accident if not recalled by the manufacturer. To conclude, I would like for your office to possibly conduct an investigation with the 2010 toyota Prius hybrid for this ongoing problem that the company is ignoring. This is a serious issue and can possibly lead to a fatal accident. THANK YOU FOR HEARING MY COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA.

At around 1000,000 miles my Toyota Prius started burning oil like crazy. The dealer did an oil consumption test and confirmed the problem. I had to have my engine rebuilt because the rings were not seating properly. I had to bear all costs even though this is clearly a manufacturing default.

The Gas Engine had internal destruction Cylinder broke and car became unusable at 158K miles despite being a Hybrid with al Toyota maintenance at Al hendrickson toyota of Coconut Creek, FL. This is Unacceptable and Demonstrate Internal Combustion Engine Failure that fortunately occurred near my house and NOT in the hiway. Please notify Toyota Motor Company because I had to buy a new car and we are SENIORS with limited budget. It is a severe Safety Concern.

Excessive Oil consumption, particularly with highway driving. I have had this car for about a year. I only noticed that the oil was nearly empty when the engine was shaking while idling at an intersection. No warning lights for oil pressure or level ever came on, it would occasionally "ding" for oil pressure, but barley long enough for me to even read what the warning was. By excessive, I mean VERY excessive. First oil change after only 3k, almost empty. Road trip, mainly highway only about 600 miles, nearly empty. If I top it off, I check it constantly. City driving (more electric) it may burn a quart every 1-2k miles, highway more. I had the EGR, manifold and plugs serviced/replaced, it improved slightly. I'm having more work done now, but after reading SO MANY similar complaints online, I find it hard to believe this isn't a recall. An engine sputtering and nearly dying while idling is not safe, especially with no warning lights on! I contacted Toyota, they said they had not recalls or Consumer Confidence programs for complaints of oil consumption and/or piston ring seat problems in these vehicles (seems to be the primary cause). I did see a class action for many other Toyota 4cyl engines due to excess oil consumption.

Car slows down to a stop when driving on the freeway. With no power to accelerate, it makes it hard to get to the side of the road to be towed. Been to the dealer twice to address the problem, and was told that if I don't pay $200, that there is nothing they can do. Then when I did pay the money for evaluation, they told me the problem could be one of several things that would start the never-ending process of repairs that will keep me paying until they solve it. I would think that with a $200 code reading, that the dealers software could narrow it down to the exact repair needed. I mentioned to the dealer about the JOV update I had done earlier to the car, but dealer refuses to recognize that there is a recall on my vehicle, and that I needed to pay money(that I don't have) to do anything. I was driving home from work when all the warning light all came on at once. The car suddenly stopped accelerating and the “check hybrid system” was showing on my dash. I was lucky enough to be going down hill so I can make it to a shoulder to get off the road. Tried troubleshooting everything but to no avail and needed to get towed because the Prius would not move at all. Haven’t got the vehicle checked yet because the vehicle will not move and can only be moved if towed.

2010 Prius started up in the garage 3 hours after being shut down. I am certain the car was NOT still running while we unloaded groceries from hatchback and left the garage. * Nothing was retrieved from the front seat so no accidental start could have occurred. * My son "heard it start" almost 3 hours after the vehicle had been shut off while in another room near the garage. * I heard nothing from the upstairs. * The Prius key fob was nowhere near the vicinity of the vehicle at the time it started nor was any person. In fact, both key fobs were upstairs and only the currently used 1 had a battery and was stored inside a tin so as to always know where it was. *Toyota executives were made aware of incident but essentially denied the Toyota could start without the key fob: "Toyota is not aware for any possible way for the vehicle to be started without the key."

A number of things have failed on this car. 1. The hybrid battery pack system shut down and warned that I needed to see a mechanic. My mechanic diagnosed that the hybrid invert was defective and causing the battery pack to fail. 2. When braking at both low and high speeds, the car increasingly struggles to come to a stop. When applying foot pressure, you can hear the pump winding - this occurs while at rest as well as when trying to slow the car down. There are times when applying the brake that the floor pedal will lock and cause the car to skid while barely reducing the speed of the car. I have had multiple near accident incidences as a result and put myself and others at risk. 3. The car ferociously vibrates every morning - discovered that the head gasket has failed prematurely and due to the car overcompensating for the failing hybrid battery that is being impacted by the failing hybrid inverter. All problems have been reproduced and diagnosed at independent service centers. Multiple codes, warning lights and messages have alerted me to engine and battery issues - all of which appeared after the various issues and failures.

Traveling at freeway speed just after midnight, the "check engine" light came on. Less than one minute later, the "check hybrid system" alert came on, with an exclamation mark inside of a yellow triangle symbol displayed. The vehicle instantly had no power when the accelerator was depressed. The vehicle coasted to a stop and would not shift into drive. The vehicle was towed to our home. Upon delivering the vehicle to our home, the tow driver used an emergency battery jump start device and the vehicle was able to shift into drive and be driven into the garage. The 12 volt battery was replaced the next day and the vehicle no longer exhibited any disfunction. This was an unexpected event with no warning that the 12 volt battery was in need of replacement. It could have resulted in a serious collision, if the freeway had been more congested, as the vehicle had been immediately driven 2 lanes over to the nearest exit, and came to a stop just after exiting, safely at the side of the road. This is a very dangerous safety condition that should have had some type of alert that the simple 12 volt battery system was in danger of failing, causing a catastrophic failure of the engine and power train. Or, the car should simply not be able to drive, if the 12 volt battery is that low, to ensure passenger and community safety. Prime example: Toyota Prius has a warning alert that the key fob battery is low. The warning gives you a couple of weeks to replace the battery, and repeatedly displays the warning whenever you power up the vehicle.

Last year on September 13, 2021 I purchase a used 2010 Toyota Prius ( Vehicle VIN[XXX]) with 122414 miles on the Odometer, I got my oil changed on October 29, 2021 so I can keep track of when my oil is due. My odometer reading on oil change was 123,268. I drove 2806 miles, when I woke up on December 08, 2021 with no oil in my engine. I thought that was very strange so after adding a quart of oil My husband got for me. I took the vehicle back to the shop ( Good Year Tire & Rubber Company 1585- A Island Lane Fleming Island, FL 32003) I originally had my oil changed at, to have them check if there was some sort of leak. The odometer reading at that day/ service was 126,074. After a full inspection of the engine exterior componence, no leak was to be found. Then I decided to do some research only to find out that back in 2016 Toyota had a lawsuit against them for having manufacturer defects in the productions of engine between the years of 2006 - 2011. The manufacturer defect was the engine piston would eventually start having oil leaks into the engine causing engine excessive oil consumption. That same day I took my vehicle to the nearest Toyota dealership ( Coggin Toyota At the Avenues 11340 Philips Hwy Jacksonville FL32256) for a engine oil consumption test to be serviced on my vehicle. This process takes place by filling oil to the full line marking it... confirming there is no leaks....sealing everything and I was to return after driving 1200 miles ( odometer reading at service was 126,094). upon returning the vehicle on December 30, 2021...My vehicle failed the engine oil consumption test because after driving 1221 miles my engine was low on oil by 1.5 quart. This kind of engine oil consumption not only causes my engine to deuterate in time, but also my vehicle diminishes in value. 1. This 2010 Prius has a faulty design of the piston rings, which is allowing it to burn more than 1.4 Qts of engine oil. 2. Such high consumption of engine oil causing an environmental pollution. 3. Furthermore, I took it to the local Toyota Dealer I.e. Maguire Toyota located in Ithaca, NY, they never chose to diagnose it or repair it. 4. I reached out to the Toyota and the Toyota still isn’t helpful w.r.t this high consumption of engine oil.

My problem began when I pressed my brakes and instead it accelerated. I thought maybe my foot slipped and didn’t know what it meant. It happened again a few weeks later and then all of the dash lights went on that indicated that I had to have the big brake recall repair. Being that my car is past the 10 year warranty and past the extension for mileage, I had to pay out of pocket. This repair was done and upon receiving my car back, the gas mileage instantly began to drop. It went from averaging 42-48MPG in my town to 25-30MPG. I took it in the be looked at and they ensured me nothing was wrong with the car AT ALL. The battery wasn’t holding charge on top of this and it wasn’t reading the same on the dash about the 0-100 current gas mileage you’re getting as you go (the lines scale thing) that goes up when you let off the gas, and I could feel a strange shift while I was driving so I took it in again. They told me this time it’d be $110 to diagnose even though it was the same issue that started after the brake system repair, so I left extremely upset. A few days later my cars steering went out while I was driving and the whole hybrid system died. The car now only works in power mode. The consumer stated the car was taken in for a brake recall and had to pay $2800 in repairs. The consumer stated what they thought was a battery failure turned out to be the beginning of an electrical motor failure related to overheating.

While driving at highway speed on Interstate 87 in New York, the 2010 Toyota Prius suddenly lost power while multiple warning lights on the dashboard illuminated, along with a "Check Hybrid System" notification. The engine would operate but at significantly reduced power. I drove it to an independent garage to identify the diagnostic trouble codes, which included P0A94 and P324E, an inverter problem with the hybrid battery and a problem with the intelligent power module. The currently is currently awaiting a confirm diagnosis at a Toyota dealership in New Jersey, but the problem is exactly what thousands of other 2010 - 2014 Prius owners have reported, yet Toyota has yet to issue a recall to replace the inverter.

MY CAR'S ABS, TRACTION, AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON. I TOOK IT TO TWO SHOPS AND THEY BOTH SAID MY CAR WAS RECALLED AND TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP FIX IT. THE RECALL IS ON THE BREAKS. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ALSO NOT FULLY WORKING, THERE IS AN ABNORMAL LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE. BOTH AUTO SERVICE PLACES SAID TO DEMAND FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CAR OF THIS BECAUSE THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT GOING ON FOR THIS CAR WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM.

THE MORNING OF 8/24/20, I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR. A MESSAGE APPEARS, "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". I FOUND THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL, IN 2018, THAT INVOLVES A SOFTWARE ISSUE. I HAD MY 2010 PRIUS TOWED TO KOLAR TOYOTA IN HERMANTOWN MINNESOTA, ON, I BELIEVE 8/26/20. THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $3200 TO REPLACE THE INVERTER. I HAD READ ABOUT THE INVERTER FAILURE BEING DIRECTLY LINKED TO SOFTWARE RECALL. THEY SAID THEY'D LOOK IN TO IT AND LATER REPLIED TO ME THAT, YES, THE INVERTER WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME. THEY SAID THEY HAD ORDERED THE PART BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT BE READY UNTIL 8/31/20, AT THE EARLIEST. THEY SAID THE PART ARRIVED AND MY CAR WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. I CONTACTED THEM AND ASKED HOW THINGS WERE GOING. THE SERVICE MANAGER, TAYLOR, TOLD ME "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WE HAD TWO VEHICLES, OF THE SAME MAKE BUT DIFFERENT YEARS, IN FOR THE SAME REPAIR". HE WENT ON TO SAY, ACCORDING TO FEDEX TRACKING, THE PART HAD BEEN SHIPPED BUT TRACKING SHOWED NOTHING ELSE. I ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SURE THE TRACKING WAS FOR MY PART AND NOT THE PART FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME HE HAD NO IDEA FOR WHICH PART THE TRACKING WAS FOR. HE THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME WE WOULD JUST HAVE TO "WAIT AND SEE IF THE PART SHOWS UP". HE WENT ON TO SAY "IT COULD TAKE DAYS OR WEEKS OR LONGER" BEFORE WE KNOW IF THE PART WAS COMING IN. A FEW DAYS LATER I CALLED TO SEE IF ANY PROGRESS HAD BEEN MADE AND WAS TOLD BY TAYLOR "THE PART HAS DISAPPEARED FROM TRACKING". I ASKED HIM IF THAT MEANT IT HAD BEEN DELIVERED AND WAS POSSIBLY THE PART FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE. HE BASICALLY REPLIED HE HAD NO CLUE. HE SAID WE WOULD JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE, ONCE AGAIN. I'VE BEEN CALLING EVERY TWO OR THREE DAYS SINCE THEN. SOMETIMES HE RETURNS MY CALLS. SOMETIMES HE DOESN'T. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. MY VEHICLE IS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS.

LOUD RATTLE, SHAKING IN MOTOR AREA. WAS FOUND TO BE A HEAD GASKET LEAK. USING A LOT OF ANTIFREEZE AND WHITE SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE. WHILE IDLE OR IN MOTION AND WHILE GAS ENGINE IS RUNNING. STARTED INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST AND VERY SHORT, EG. FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN GOT LOUDER, MORE OFTEN AND LASTED LONGER. THIS CAR HAS 230,000 MILES. THIS SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING ON MY 2011 PRIUS WITH 128,000 MILES. I RESEARCHED THIS AND IT IS A COMMON PLACE WITH GEN 3 PRIUS CARS. I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE EITHER ONE OF MY PRIUS CARS SAFELY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO UMANSKY TOYOTA DEALER, (1357 RICHMOND RD, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA 22911) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,788.

MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WAS IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED BY DESERT TOYOTA OF TUCSON, ALL SERVICE RECORDS KEPT. OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 5,000 MILES RATHER THAN THE DEALER-RECOMMENDED 10,000. THIS WAS MY 4TH TOYOTA AND I EXPECTED IT, LIKE MY OTHER TOYOTAS, TO HAVE NO SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS FOR YEARS. BUT SUDDENLY IN 2017, WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED OVER 107,000 MILES (THUS MAKING IT OUT OF WARRANTY), I HAPPENED TO CHECK THE OIL (SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES BEFORE THE NEXT SERVICE WAS DUE) AND FOUND IT NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE DIPSTICK. IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT I CHECKED IT BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO ADD OIL AND SAVE THE ENGINE. THE CAR PERFORMED AS BEFORE, BUT CONTINUED TO BURN ABOUT A QUART OF MOTOR OIL EVERY 1000 TO 1500 MILES. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF EITHER SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST, OR OIL STAINS UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THIS OIL LEAKAGE POSES INCALCULABLE SAFETY RISKS TO THE ENVIRONMENT IN POLLUTION AND UNPREDICTABLE OCCURRENCES. MASTER WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" & "CHECK PCS SYSTEM", ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT UP. ENGINE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY AND RESULTED IN NO POWER WHEN PUSHING GAS PEDAL. STEERING WAS NOT COMPROMISED. WAS ABLE TO CROSS 3 LANES ON THE INTERSTATE TO THE SHOULDER WITH NO POWER AND THE CAR DECELERATING RAPIDLY, AGAIN WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OF ANY ISSUES. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, WAS ABLE TO DRIVE APPROX. 25 FEET BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AGAIN LEADING TO A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. BREAKING AND STEERING WERE AFFECTED AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR.

I CURRENTLY USE MY VEHICLE FOR MY LIVELIHOOD DOING INDEPENDENT DELIVERY SERVICES SUCH AS INSTACART, DOORDASH, POSTMATES ETC. THE DEALER H,S HAD MANY CARS COME BACK AFTER THE SOFTWARE FIX AND HAD TO HAVE THE INVERTOR CHANGED. IF THE INVERTOR FAILS WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR CAN POSSIBLY JUST STOP RUNNING OR SLOW DOWN TO 15 MILES. THIS WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLY DEADLY.

THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AND WILL GO IN FRONT OF A JUDGE IN JANUARY. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS AND THEY TELL ME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNLIMITED MILEAGE RECALL BUT TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING TO MY WIFE WHO WAS ON A FREEWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ERROR AND I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMEONE DIE BECAUSE THEIR CAR STOPS ON THE FREEWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALSO HAD SEVERAY P0401 CODES, THERE IS AN WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR THIS AS WELL BUT LIMITED TO 150K MILES. WE TURNED ON A SIDE STREET AND MY HUSBAND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, GOT OUT, WALKED TO THE FRONT, AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT HEAD LAMP WAS MELTED AND THERE WAS A FLAME. WE QUICKLY GOT OUR FAMILY OUT OF THE CAR (2 KIDS IN CARSEATS IN THE BACK). WE MOVED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE FLAMES BECOME LARGER AND LARGER. WE CALLED 911 AND THE HOOD WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES BY THE TIME THE FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED. THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT QUICKLY, SO IT DID NOT SPREAD INTO THE FRONT CABIN OR REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAD NOT HAD ANY RECENT WORK DONE AND THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL UNTIL THE TIME OF THE FIRE. WE HAD NOT BEEN EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT.

STOPPED AT TOYOTA SERVICE ON 6/01/2018 FOR THEM TO CHECK THE WARNING LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS LOW ON OIL AGAIN. THEY TOPPED OFF THE OIL AT NO CHARGE. THANK YOU! AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES, MY AUTOBODY SHOP RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE NOT 100% CLEAR WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND NOT HAD THE ISSUE SINCE, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD REPORT THIS JUST IN CASE THIS IS RELATED TO THE INVERTER ISSUE. THE ISSUE I HAD WAS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED -- DRIVING THE CAR, THEN SUDDENLY LOSING POWER AND PRACTICALLY UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE (I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT MAYBE 3 MPH WITH NO POWER STEERING, BARELY GOT OUT OF AN INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ONE TIME IT HAPPENED). THIS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS TIMES, ALWAYS WHILE MOVING, BOTH ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON CITY STREETS, STRAIGHT/TURNING. THE ONLY TIME IT DIDN'T SEEM TO HAPPEN WAS WHEN STATIONARY. THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHEN TURNING WITH MOTION ABOUT 20+MPH. THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS NOT AS ADVERTISED THE 50MPG IN ANY WAY AS IT ONLY GETS AVERAGE ABOUT 35MPG. THE VEHICLE HAS 87000 MILES AND THE OLD SYMPTOMS FROM SECOND GENERATION FOLLOWED SUIT WITH IT. THE DASH WENT TOTALLY OFF WHEN WEATHER IS COLD AND SUDDENLY TURNED BACK ON WHEN IT GETS WARM. I HAD DRIVEN A FEW MILES WITHOUT THE DASH ON AND IT WAS A BAD EXPERIENCE SINCE I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SPEED OR WHAT IS GOING ON. THE STEERING IS THE MAJOR ISSUE AS WE DARE NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND THE TECHNICIANS FROM THE DEALER SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE BUT THIRD PARTY TECHNICIANS RECOMMEND TO TAKE TO TOYOTA FOR RECALL.U TURNS ARE THE WORSE THAT LOCKED THE STEERING AND THE CAR ALMOST COME TO A STOP WITH BEEPING ALARMS.

MY 2010 PRIUS HAS RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE - APPROXIMATELY 44,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN ROUTINELY MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. I JUST REPLACED THE TIRES A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, AND THE ONLY ISSUES HAVE BEEN THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL & THE NEED TO REPLACE AIR FILTERS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN MAY BE NORMAL BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE A GARAGE SO IT IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN A DRIVEWAY WHERE EXPOSURE TO POLLEN & DEBRIS FROM TREES IS EXCESSIVE. AFTER A SIGNIFICANT WIND & RAIN STORM WEDNESDAY NIGHT, THE ENGINE RATTLED & MADE UNUSUAL NOISES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THEN, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE MANUAL, WHICH SAID NOT TO DRIVE & TO CALL A DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY, WHICH I DID. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE & IT SHOULD BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAITED UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MORNING & STARTED IT AGAIN TO VERIFY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEFORE HAVING IT TOWED. AFTER I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 HOURS, THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME THAT WHEN HE STARTED IT, THE CAR RUN FINE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF, & THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, BUT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION SHOWED A PROBLEM WITH AN OIL LEAK IN THE HEAD GASKET. I WAS QUOTED A COST OF APPROX. $1500 TO OPEN IT UP, FIX THE LEAK, & CHECK FOR ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. I GAVE THE GO-AHEAD, BUT AM WONDERING IF THIS IS SYMPTOMATIC OF A GREATER PROBLEM THAT WILL BE REPEATED. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE REPAIR TODAY. MY GOAL IS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAS 100,000 MILES OR SO & THEN TRADE IN FOR THE NEWER MODEL. DID I MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION? DO I HAVE A LEMON? IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 MODEL? I JUST TESTED ALL YEARS FROM 2010 TO 2011 PRIUS, THOSE PRIUS BURNS A LOT OF OIL AT EVERY 2,000 MILES. I DID FILL IT (AT 4.4 QUARTS OF OIL) CORRECTLY IT BUT PRIUS ATE OVER 3 QUARTS IN 2000 MILES. LIKE MANY OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTS THIS ON PRIUSCHAT.COM AND ETC ONLINE FORUMS. I HATE TO SPEND MY MONEY TO BUY MOTOR OILS! WHY THIS PRIUS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION? "WHAT DID THIS HAPPEN?" LATEST ISSUE..CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, MISFIRE ON CYLINDERS 1 AND 4 (PROGRESSING TO ALL), HORRIFIC KNOCKING NOISE WITH SOUND OF RUSHING WATER UPON START-UP. EVENTUALLY, (ONCE THE CYLINDERS FIRED SIGNIFICANTLY) THE ENGINE COULD RUN SATISFACTORILY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE... UNTIL THE NEXT START. EARLY ON I READ THAT TOYOTA KNEW OF THE UNDER-ENGINEERED MOTOR OF THE 2010S, BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING ANNOUNCING A RECALL OR CARE TO FIX THEIR ENGINEERING ISSUE. THIS AFTERNOON, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A TWO LANE, PAVED STREET AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THE STREET HAS A SLIGHT DECLINE AND SHE BEGAN TO APPLY THE BREAKS TO SLOW DOWN SLIGHTLY. ONCE YOU REACH PAST THE 140,000 MILE MARK, YOUR CAR IS PRETTY MUCH DONE. CONSIDER BUYING A NEW ONE. TOYOTA PRIUSES AND THEIR ENGINEERS HAVE TO COME UP WITH A WAY TO SATISFY CURRENT AND FUTURE PRIUS OWNERS AS MANY OF US WILL FIND THAT THERE WILL BE MANY PROBLEMS AND ISSUES DOWN THE ROAD.

CAR PURCHASED NEW AND SERVICED AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP EVERY 10,000 MILES USING 0-20W SYNTHETIC OIL. AT AROUND 106,000 MILES I NOTICED THE DISPLAY FLASHING SOMETHING BUT COULD NOT, AT THAT TIME, READ WHAT THE WARNING WAS. IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN GOING AROUND CURVES, TURNING ETC. FINALLY, AT MAYBE 107,000 MILES, THE WARNING STAYED ON LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THE LOW OIL WARNING. TOOK THE CAR IN AT 108,000 (NO OIL ON DIPSTICK AT THAT POINT) AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED FOR LEAKS AND FOUND NONE. I WAS LIGHTLY ADMONISHED BY SERVICE FOR DRIVING WITHOUT OIL. FAIR ENOUGH, I THOUGHT AT THE TIME. I WAS SLIGHTLY CHAGRINED AS I HAVE ALWAYS RELIGIOUSLY HAD MY OIL CHANGED (OR CHANGED IT MYSELF) ON ALL MY CARS AT THE RECOMMENDED INTERVALS WITH NO SIGNS OF A PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDED THAT I MONITOR OIL USAGE. I DID, AND TO MY SURPRISE 2,500 HUNDRED MILES LATER, I HAD TO ADD A FULL QUART. THEN 1950 MILES LATER, ANOTHER QUART. YESTERDAY, ANOTHER QUART AT 1048 MILES. VERY DISAPPOINTED AS THE CAR HAS BEEN WITHOUT PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. HAVE NOT DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, BUT AM NOT ENCOURAGED BY THE TENOR OF COMMENTS POSTED HERE REGARDING TOYOTA STEPPING UP AND ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY. I SEE NO NEED, AT THIS POINT, TO PAY TO HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP AS THE CAR IS OBVIOUSLY USING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL.

IN 2016 ABOUT THE 130,000+ MILE MARK ON MY VEHICLE, I STARTED COMPLAINING ABOUT MY CAR CONSUMING OIL. THE DEALER FINDLAY TOYOTA ASSURED ME THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE HEAT AND WAS NORMAL. I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE THE PAPER I SIGNED AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETE HAS TO DO WITH THE MAINTENANCE BEING DONE, NO ONE MENTIONED IT MEANT ALL MY CONCERNS WERE ACKNOWLEDGED. THE DAYS CONTINUED AND EVEN IN DURING COLDER MONTHS OF THE YEAR OF 2016, I AGAIN NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP OF MY CAR EATING OIL AND IT WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. AGAIN I COMPLAINED AND IT WAS NOT ANNOTATED OR WRITTEN ANYWHERE IN THEIR FILES. IT WAS NOT UNTIL 26,000 MILES PLUS MORE THAT THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED MY ISSUE AND TOOK THEIR TIME TO SEARCH FOR THE CAUSE. IN THE MONTH OF MARCH 2017, ONE INDIVIDUAL FROM TOYOTA ACTUALLY TOOK HIS TIME AND DID A FULL CHECK, INSTEAD OF THE USUAL ITS HOT HERE AND THAT EATS YOUR OIL EXCUSE, HE GIVE ME AN ANSWER WHICH LEAD TO ME HAVING CONCERNS ABOUT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, HE SAID THE PISTONS HAD A LEAK AND IT WAS BURNING UP MY OIL. NOW THAT I AM OVER THAT MILEAGE AND WAS NEVER NOTIFIED, GREAT DEALERSHIPS TELL YOU WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR CAR FOR ANY MAINTENANCE ABOUT RECALLS, THEY SAY IT SUP TO ME TO FIX THIS ISSUE THEY KNEW THESE CARS HAVE. TOYOTA HAS SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED IN NOVEMBER 2016 TO COVER THIS CAR BUT INHERENTLY, IT ISN'T COVERED. I HAVE SERVICE RECORDS THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING IN JUNE 2015 AT 82000 MILES, BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPT 2016. TOYOTA WILL ONLY COVER HALF OF $3000 COST OF REPAIR. ISSUE APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD, ACROSS MANY MODELS FROM WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE AND EXPERIENCED IN THE DEALERSHIP. ON PICKING UP MY PRIUS AFTER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS 3 QUARTS LOW IN ENGINE OIL. I WAS STUNNED AS I HAD HAD NO WARNING OF LOW OIL PRESSURE OR LOSS OF PERFORMANCE. THE DEALER IS CONDUCTING AN "OIL CONSUMPTION TEST" TO MEASURE HOW MUCH OIL WILL BE CONSUMED IN 1200 MILES. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $2000, BUT MY HUSBAND WHO IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT ENGINES DOESN'T BELIEVE THE SUGGESTED REPAIR WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BECOME AWARE THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH LATE MODEL TOYOTAS, NOT JUST PRIUS. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT AND THE SERVICE TECH WE SPOKE WITH WERE CAGEY WHEN ASKED HOW FREQUENTLY THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE TOYOTA IS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT ARE WILLFULLY NOT ADDRESSING A REMEDY.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AFTER HAVING MY OIL CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT 100K MILES, I LEFT ON A CROSS-COUNTRY TRIP. DURING THE TRIP, THE LOW OIL PRESSURE SIGNAL FLASHED ON MY DASHBOARD. UPON PULLING OVER AND CHECKING THE OIL, I FOUND THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE AT ALL. I ADDED 4 QUARTS CHECKING THE LEVEL IN INCREMENTS WITH THE DIPSTICK, AND CONTINUED. I HAD TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL QUART OF OIL TO THE ENGINE OVER THE FOLLOWING WEEK, UNTIL RETURNING HOME. UPON RETURNING, THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE AND INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED NEW PISTONS AND RINGS. THEY DID NOT INFORM ME THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH MY GENERATION OF PRIUS AND WERE QUITE FIRM THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THERE IS NOT REASON THAT A TOYOTA WITH 100,000 MILE ON IT SHOULD RANDOMLY START BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL WITHIN A FEW THOUSAND MILES OF AN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE HAZARDOUS OR RECALLS FOR THE CAR. THEY JUST TELL YOU TO GET ANOTHER OIL CHANGE. ITS RECOMMENDED EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES BUT EVERY 1,000 MILES IS RIDICULOUS PLUS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE IF YOU ADD IT UP. WE CANT AFFORD TO HAVE THE ENGINE REBUILT EITHER. TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I CANT BELIEVE THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS' SAFETY. I ALSO READ SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES WITH THE OIL BURNING OFF CAUSING HARMFUL GASES. MY WIFE WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE DOCTOR FOR THROAT ISSUES. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE CAR ALL LONG, HUNDREDS IN DOCTOR BILLS FOR THEIR LACK OF HUMANITY. SO HERE WE GO AGAIN, ANOTHER VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WANT THIS PROBLEM FIXED BY TOYOTA. CAR IS NOT LEAKING OIL. CAR SOMETIMES SMELLS OF OIL AFTER STARTING. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CERTAIN MODELS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT NOT FOR PRIUS. MY CAR HAS 117,000 MILES AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 25,000 MILES (BASED UPON ORANGE WARNING TRIANGLE). ACCORDING TO DEALER, PROBLEM IS WITH RINGS (WHICH IS THE RECALL FOR OTHER TOYOTA CARS). ALSO, ACCORDING TO DEALER, THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR OTHER PRIUS OWNERS WITH 100,000+ MILES. I HAVE ALWAYS GOT THE OIL REPLACED IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER AND WITH ONLY AROUND 118,000 MILES ON IT, THIS IS VERY TROUBLING. MY DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE CHARGED ME UPWARDS OF $4,000 TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET AND THE OIL PAN GASKET SAYING IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DIDN'T. THEY DID THE OIL COMPRESSION CHECK WITH NO SIGN OF WHERE THE OIL WAS GOING AS THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL LEAKS ACCORDING TO THEM. THEY REFUSE TO THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM, WHICH I THINK IS A BLATANT LIE. THEY KNOW THAT THIS SHOULDN'T BE THE CASE AND WANT ME TO GET THE ENGINE REBUILT FOR AN ADDITIONAL $4,500, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS FOR A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I WANT TOYOTA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, 84,000 MILES: EXPERIENCED LOSS OF OIL, TOOK TO DEALER WHO TOPPED OFF AND ASKED ME TO RETURN. RETURNED AT 85,790 MILES AFTER FURTHER LOSS OF OIL (DOWN TWO QUARTS). THE TOYOTA MECHANIC HAD TO CALL TOYOTA, WHO STATED THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. THE PCV STICKS OPEN, RESULTING IN OIL BEING SPRAYED WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG. REPAIR, WHICH INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF SEVERAL PARTS, ESTIMATED AT $629.00. THE TOYOTA SERVICE TECH WAS NOT CONFIDENT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE NEEDED AGAIN, AND BLAMED USE OF ETHANOL IN GASOLINE AS THE CULPRIT. HOWEVER, ETHANOL HAS BEEN IN USE SINCE WELL BEFORE THIS MODEL WAS RELEASED ON THE MARKET. TOYOTA KNOWS IT HAS A PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.

THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED JUST BEFORE THE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 25, 2015 AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS OFF AT THE TIME AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING, THE CAR EVIDENTLY CAUGHT FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY AT APPROXIMATELY 2 A.M. WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE GARAGE DOOR WAS CLOSED. BY THE TIME WE WOKE UP, THE GARAGE WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WE WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. HOWEVER, OUR HOUSE WAS TOO SEVERELY DAMAGED (FIRE, SMOKE AND WATER) AFTER THE FIRE TO BE LIVABLE, AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING REBUILT. I CALLED TOYOTA MOTOR USA CONSUMER RELATIONS AND OPENED A CASE INDICATING THAT I WAS CONSUMING (BURNING NOT DRIPPING) 1 TO 2 QUARTS PER 1,000 MILES AND MY MPG HAD DECREASED FROM 46 AVG TO 35 AVG. THE OIL CONSUMPTION OVER THE NEXT 3 MONTHS AVERAGED 1 QT/600 MILES AND MY AVG MPG DETERIORATED FURTHER TO 29 MPG. IN JULY TOYOTA CHULA VISTA PERFORMED A TEARDOWN AND ENDED UP REPLACING THE LOWER ENGINE, CYLINDERS RINGS, AND VALVES. I WAS INFORMED THAT OTHER 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS ENGINES EXHIBITED FAILURE/WEAR OF THE CYLINDER WALLS AT ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE. FIELD TECHS WERE CONTACTED AGAIN BY THE CHULA VISTA SERVICE MGR AND I CONTACTED TOYOTA NATIONAL SEEKING SOME ASSISTANCE IN THE $6,400 REPAIR BILL. I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS VIN:[XXX] WITH 37,000 MILES. THE CAR EXPERIENCES RANDOM LOSSES OF POWER DURING WHICH THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND DOES NOT ACTIVATE NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUMP THE ACCELERATOR. ONCE I TURN OFF AND PUSH AGAIN THE START BUTTON, THE ENGINE STARTS UP WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM AND I CAN CONTINUE ON MY WAY. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM 5 TIMES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER (CALDWELL TOYOTA, NJ) WHERE IT WAS EXAMINED AND THEY TOLD ME THE ONBOARD COMPUTER DID NOT RECORD ANY MALFUNCTION. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE ONTO A TWO-LANE HIGHWAY. BECAUSE OF A SLOW AND SHARP U-TURN WHICH PRECEDES THE SHORT ON-RAMP, I DISABLED THE ECO MODE FOR BETTER ACCELERATION. WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON THE GAS, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY EMITTED A LOUD SOUND, BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND WAS UNABLE TO GAIN ADDITIONAL SPEED. EVEN SO, THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO MERGE ONTO THE ROADWAY WHILE DOING NO MORE THAN 30 MPH. IN THE MEANTIME, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWED A "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" MESSAGE ALONG WITH SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS. I MANAGED TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC (FROM BEHIND) AND SAFELY PULLED ONTO THE GRASS. ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL WITH THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE REAPPEARING EACH TIME. THE CAR REQUIRED A TOW TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, AND THEY EXPLAINED THE CAUSE TO BE A DEFECTIVE INVERTER BASED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE. FORTUNATELY, THE REPAIR WILL BE COVERED UNDER TOYOTA'S HYBRID WARRANTY. IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN AND I AM HOPEFUL THIS REPAIR WILL FULLY RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

INCIDENT #1 BRAKE: ON JANUARY 17, 2013 AS I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION ABOUT 20MPH, I APPLIED MY BRAKES, BUT THEY WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND WARNING LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. I PRESSED BRAKES VERY HARD AND CAR ALMOST STOP, THEN, ITS BRAKES GAVE UP. THERE IS SUDDEN SLIGHT "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" AND I ALMOST HIT CAR FRONT OF ME. BUT, I AM ABLE TO MANAGE TO DROVE THE CAR INTO THE CENTER ISLAND. BRAKE WAS TOTALLY OUT, AND THE CAR STARTED DROVE BY ITSELF. I PANICKED AND PRESSED POWER BUTTON TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. CAR DROVE ABOUT 15 FEET AND STOPPED. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I TOW MY CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT LOST BRAKE IS DUE TO SHORT CIRCUIT MADE DOMINO EFFECT TO MULTIPLE COMPUTERS MALFUNCTION. THEY WILL REPLACE WHOLE COMPUTER SYSTEM, BUT SERVICE MAN WOULD NOT GUARANTEE IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. INCIDENT #2 POWER FAILED AND SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY. ON DECEMBER, 2012 AND JANUARY 2013. I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY AND TRYING TO MERGE INTO THE CENTER LINE, CAR STALLED AND PROMPTED "KEY DOES NOT DETECT" MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN. I ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER CAR. WHILE THE CAR STILL HAS A SPEED ABOUT 40MPH, I MANAGED TO RESTART THE CAR BY DEPRESSED BRAKE AND PRESS POWER BOTTOM. WHILE MAKING A U TURN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING ILLUMINATED. THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS OIL IN THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSED BY OVERFILLING AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH OIL OVERFILLS ON PRIUS VEHICLES. THE LAST OIL CHANGE HAD BEEN 8,000 MILES AND MORE THAN 2 MONTHS PREVIOUS. THE PLACE THAT PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE AGREED TO LOOK AT CAR AND CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO CHECKED THE OIL AND MADE SURE IT WAS CORRECT LEVEL. THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAR DIED ON A FREEWAY TRANSITION OVER PASS AND WE WERE STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE SAME THING. THE OIL CHANGE PLACE SAYS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY IS THIS THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY LOOKED AT IT VERY CLOSELY THE LAST TIME. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AT DEALERSHIP FOR 25000 MILE SERVICE. ON 11/07/2012 AT 1700 THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND REPORTED THAT THE CAR IS "INFESTED WITH RODENTS." STATED THAT HEADLINER IS SATURATED WITH URINE/ FECES, AIR AND CABIN AIR FILTERS DESTROYED, WIRES CHEWED, RODENTS FOUND TO BE LIVING IN DASHBOARD, IN DOOR INTERIORS, AND OTHER AREAS. REPORTED THAT THIS WAS "THE WORST CASE WE'VE SEEN." CAR IS OWNED BY TWO PROFESSIONALS- NO CHILDREN WHO WOULD HAVE DROPPED FOOD AND NO FOOD EVER EATEN IN VEHICLE. PURCHASED NEW FROM THIS SAME DEALERSHIP 01/02/2011. DEALERSHIP NOW REPORTS THAT THE CAR IS A HEALTH/ SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD COST "THOUSANDS" TO REPAIR. OUR INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THAT RODENT INFESTATION IS COMMON IN THE TOYOTA PRIUS, REPORTEDLY BECAUSE RODENTS ARE ABLE TO GAIN EASY ACCESS THROUGH THE CAR'S VENTILATION SYSTEM.
