I received a recall letter from Toyota to replace me battery in my 2014 RAV4. I made an appointment with Toyota on 31 in Clinton, NJ for 1/28/2025 at 9:30am. Upon bringing in my car for the recall I was told it will cost me $189.00+tax to replace my battery. The reason was because there is another battery in my car. I advised them that I bought the car second hand and had no reason to check my car's battery at that time. (who knew). In the letter of recall it states that the battery change is "the hold down clamps and short circuit, increasing the risk of fire." With that stated, changing my battery is the benefit to securing safety to me and my passengers. Isn't that the main reason for the recall! Safety by Toyota without Charge!

This car was purchased in March 2024 at Peak Motors in Hickory, NC and on [XXX] 2024, while driving the Check engine light, power steering, oil lamp, A&T temp oil, battery, tire and seatbelt light came on, the RPM went to 0 and we could no accelerate so we coasted down a hill and pull off to restart the car. After restarting it, all the lights disappeared and proceeded home and it happened 2 more times on the way home. The next day our mechanic and tested the battery and alternator, the alternator was good, but battery was weak so we got a new battery. A couple weeks later, the same thing happened and took it back in the mechanic but they could not get any codes nor could get it to reproduce what was happening so nothing could be done. They cleaned the mass air filter, but the same thing happened a few weeks later. The car has been in the shop for a total of 5 times and kept at the shop for 3 weeks. On [XXX] 2024, the car engine died again while in a drive thru and immediately took it to the mechanic 10 minutes away and they were able to get the code P1604 Startability Malfunction but the code is too generic they couldn't pinpoint specifically exactly what is the problem. Because of this being a HUGH safety issue, I contacted the dealer and they said they inspected it but could not provide proof when I asked for paperwork. I contacted Toyota in Asheville, NC where it serviced and they haven' returned my call. I contacted Mike Johnson Toyota in Hickory, NC where it was bought and they had no service records regarding this vehicle. It has passed inspection in Buncombe, NC but nobody can figure out what's going on. I am scared to drive the car because it happens at random times and it puts us at risk of being hit since we suddenly loss power but also puts others at risk as could hit us harming themselves and damaging their car. We drove the car for only a month before all of this began to happen and we just want to feel safe driving and riding in this car again. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM
While driving, front of car ignited. Seems related to unresolved recall: Nov 01,2023 Manufacturer Recall Number23TB13 NHTSA Recall Number23V734 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Summary Some replacement 12-volt batteries of the size specified for the subject vehicles have smaller top dimensions than others. If a small-top battery is used for replacement and the hold-down clamp is not tightened correctly, the battery could move when the vehicle is driven with forceful turns. Safety Risk The movement could cause the positive battery terminal to contact the hold-down clamp and short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Remedy Toyota is currently preparing the remedy. When the remedy is available, Toyota dealers will replace the battery hold down clamp, battery tray, and positive terminal cover with improved ones FREE OF CHARGE. At this time, Toyota estimates the remedy will be available in the middle of 2024 but this is subject to change. Until the remedy is available, owners who have not had the free inspection performed under Consumer Advisory 21TG01 should be encouraged to do so.

2014 Toyota RAV4 perfectly good headlight bulb stops working on low beam selection, severely limiting visibility for night-time driving. Looks like everyone on the internet is having the same problem.
My daughter was exiting the the freeway on off ramp and turning right. The car lost electrical power without any warnings on dash or notification. When she tried to turn the steering wheel she was unable to due to loss of power steering. She ended up crossing a median and was able to turn the wheel enough to pull into the suicide lane. She noticed the hood was smoking so she shut off the car and exited the vehicle. Soon the car engine area was in flames. Fire department put out the fire and police made and incident report. The car is unusable.
Parked my vehicle 2014 Rav4 at work, went to my office and security called that my Toyota rav4 burst into flames. All caught on video. Sprinklers went off and fire department called. Fire started under the hood. Entire Engine compartment burned. Vehicle totaled.
The multimedia screen has been stuck in a powering up/loading cycle but would not able to complete the loading cycle, so none of the multimedia functions (radio, DVD Player, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.) would be able to function. This happened to me in early 2023. Over the past months, I have searched similar issues and possible fixes on the internet, but seems no easy fixes, while reported dealer repair estimates for $800+. A Google search shows many similar problems with RAV4 from their 2013 model year on. One Youtube viedeo "Rav4 radio stuck in boot loop" has had 10,000 views as of today, May 23, 2023.
As I drive the multimedia system reboots on its own. Also as I was exiting the freeway coming off a curvy ramp, the car shut down as I was driving and the steering wheel locked for a second and then it came back to life. As this happened the dashboard lit up as if it was in accessory mode. Luckily there was not a lot of traffic on the ramp. Also about 5 months ago i had it repaired at the dealer because of a torque converter extended recall

Steering and brakes quit working while driving. Able to safely get off road. Took to Toyota Service Department. Per invoice "improperly installed battery caused everything to melt" battery installed by AAA in March 2020. Size 35 battery. Extensive damage.
Our 2014 Rav4 LE with 37k miles caught on fire while parked in a shopping plaza parking lot. The fire department says I was lucky that I wasn't driving the car or I wasn't in the car with children, pets, or elderly parents or we could have died. If my car was parked next to others this fire could have spread and been absolutely catastrophic. We've had our car fully inspected once within the last 6 months, and a limited inspection during an oil change within the last 3 months. I believe the fire started with the battery, we think we were affected by this... https://www.consumerreports.org/car-safety/toyota-rav4-under-investigation-due-to-battery-fire-concerns-a8630737173/ Our battery was inspected recently during an oil change and it was fine. The car has very low miles. Prior to parking the car I noticed a sulfuric rotten egg smell which I thought was coming from one of the nearby restaurants in this plaza. I turned the engine off, rolled up the windows, and put the in-car ventilation on at which point I noticed the smell coming from the vents. I rolled the windows down and was going to pop the hood to investigate but I decided to wait a few minutes for the car to cool down. There were no check engine lights or attention lights on the dashboard. As I got out of the car to walk to the plaza I noticed a small amount of steam coming from between the cracks of the hood. About 45 seconds later when I walked to a nearby storefront I noticed a flame coming from between the windshield and hood. I promptly called 911 and the Skokie fire department arrived on the scene about 5 minutes later. They put out the car fire in about 3 - 4 minutes, but the car was a complete loss.
Audio System, Navigation. Cannot enter and use set up Menu for Radio, CD. The Panel continuously displays the screen of the software, hardware, Entune starting and restarting.
Shortly after I purchased the vehicle, the Entune application began sending “movement alerts” and frequently showed that it was in a different location. The dealership said that an update was required, but that did not fix the problem. About a year later, it began to drain batteries repeatedly (4 in one year). The Toyota dealership could not find a problem. After the last battery replacement, I noticed that the Entune app shows that I have over 960,000,000 miles on the vehicle (when the odometer isn’t even at 85,000) and the battery voltage was 14.6 volts! My car was broken into and the front window was broken, but the app failed to inform me of that! About a month ago, I left home and all of the lights on the dash started flashing. The engine temperature was rising (according to the temperature gauge), and then the gauges stopped functioning. The tachometer showed 0 RPMs and I was unable to see the odometer, temperature, or even my speed. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cables, it appeared to solve the problem. I am afraid of what may happen next and would trade it in if I could afford to.
On Sunday, Aug 29th, our RAV4 caught fire in our driveway. The vehicle was off/parked at the time and required the fire department to extinguish. The fire spread to our truck which was parked next to the RAV4. Both are a complete loss.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota RAV4. The contact stated while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. After multiple attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. Soon after the vehicle was restarted there was smoke coming from the vehicle and the vehicle stalled again. The contact stated that the battery had caught on fire. The battery was destroyed. The fire department was not notified of the fire. There was no injury sustained. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic for repair. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000. The VIN was not available.

After a minor front end collision, the RAV4 immediately began smoking and caught fire. With a minor accident where the other car only had their front bumper minorly damaged, the RAV4 should not have caught fire. Their must be a defect in either the battery or oil line for the car to have caught fire. The car is a total loss and I am asking for a full investigation as my 2 children were in the car when the fire started.
Making a turn onto a local toll road and entire car went dead without warning of any kind. I had to struggle with loss of power steering to complete turn without going off road. Car came to a stop. I tried to call my wife to advise her I was having car problems which is surprising as I haven't had issues previously and had an earlier version of the RAV4 that I drove for 210,000 miles. Anyway, another vehicle stopped alongside and inquired if I needed assistance. As I talked, I noticed a smokey smell from what I had initially assumed was steam. I stepped outside the vehicle and observed through the drivers side front wheel well to see fire at the bottom of the engine compartment. Since I was driving to trails to ride my mountain bike, I had a water bottle and squeezed it onto the flames which partially extinguished and then relit. I hit the hood release but decided it was better to leave the hood down. I went to the rear lift gate to open it to retrieve my expensive carbon fiber mountain bike but it was locked. I tried to open the back driver side door also without success and tried hitting the unlock button on the drivers door but there was no power. About this time the smoke coming from the hood increased and I decided to heed the advise being given to step away from the car. Had I remembered sooner, I probably could have reached around the driver's seat to recover my wallet from the back pocket of the seat. As the fire increased, I stepped increasingly further back from the vehicle. About 5 minutes into the fire a state trooper arrived and expended his only extinguisher in an unsuccessful attempt to put out the fire. It was probably another 12-15 minutes before the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire but by that time, the car and its contents were a total loss.
All but one lock has now failed. The truck is not able to be opened. There were no warnings/indications, and now the company is telling me that it is no longer under warranty and it cannot be repaired unless paid for. I do find similar stories online and that the locks fail a second time in some cases.

OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL RESTART WHILE I'M DRIVING, USUALLY WHEN FLICKING ON MY BRIGHTS. I GOT THE CAR CHECKED AND THE MECHANICS STATED IT PROBABLY WAS FROM THE BUILD UP ON THE BATTERY. THERE WERE A COUPLE DAYS WHEN THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE.

MY HEAD UNIT WHICH PROVIDES NAVIGATION, SOUND, HANDS FREE PHONE, BLUETOOTH AND MUSIC OPTIONS CONTINUALLY ATTEMPTS TO RELOAD. SO I HAVE NONE OF THE ABOVE FEATURES TO USE. THIS PRESENTS A PROBLEM, AS IF I WANT TO MAKE OR RECEIVE A PHONE CALL, OR SPEAK HANDS FREE, THE OPTION NO LONGER EXISTS. I HAVE REVIEWED WEBSITES LIKE YOUTUBE AND CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF OWNERS OF NOT JUST A RAV4, BUT OTHER TOYOTA BRANDS WHO ARE HAVING OR HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. I'VE CALLED TOYOTA, AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS SYSTEM. I DON'T SEE HOW NOT HAVING YOUR NAVIGATION, OR HANDS FREE PHONE SERVICES NOT WORKING, CANNOT BE A SAFETY CONCERN! THE WHOLE POINT OF HANDS FREE IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER YOU ARE DRIVING OR NOT, THE SYSTEM JUST WANTS TO CONTINUALLY REBOOT. FROM WHAT I'VE READ AND WATCHED, THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING FLAW WITHIN THE 'ENTUNE' SYSTEM. I'M HOPING YOUR ORGANIZATION CAN REVIEW THIS ISSUE AND SUPPORT THE MILLIONS OF TOYOTA OWNERS ACROSS THE NATION.

I'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. THE LOCK ACTUATORS ON ALL THE DOORS AND REAR HATCH CONSTANTLY BREAK, THE RADIO COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING AND A NEW AFTER MARKET RADIO HAD TO BE INSTALLED SINCE TOYOTA WON'T RECALL THE RADIOS, THE AC BLOWER MOTOR KEEPS SHORTING OUT, AND THE USB PORTS SHORT OUT AND STOP WORKING.

2014 TOYOTA RAV 4. OVER THE PAST YEAR--THE ELECTRIC LOCKS ON ALL FOUR DOORS STOPPED WORKING--TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO SAID IT WAS THE ACTUATORS IN THE DOORS AND WOULD COST OVER $2000 TO FIX THEM. I WOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM, BUT THIS CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ALL FOUR WOULD BE KNOCKED OUT AT ONCE, AND SUSPECT THAT IT IS A . IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I SUSPECT THAT THEY USED INFERIOR/FAULTY PARTS.

THE RADIO CONTROL UNIT WENT INTO A REBOOT CYCLE AND NEVER COMPLETES. THE ENTIRE UNIT IS UNABLE TO BE USED FOR ANY OF IT'S FUNCTIONS. RADIO, BLUETOOTH, GPS, ETC. THERE ARE A LOT OF TOYOTA OWNERS REPORTING THIS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WITH THE 2014 RAV4. THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLE AND VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE.

TAKATA RECALL. ALL OF THE DOORS ON MY 2014 RAV4 LOCK AND UNLOCK WHEN THEY CHOSE TO. NORMALLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE THE DOORS ALL LOCK HOWEVER AS OF JANUARY 2019 THEY HAVE BEEN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHEN THEY DECIDED TO WORK. USING THE EXTERNAL KEY BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS WORKING MAYBE 50% OF THE TIME ON ABOUT 2 TO 3 OF THE DOORS. THE SAME GOES FOR THE INTERNATIONAL LOCK BUTTONS AND WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN WHO I AM NOT TERRIFIED TO HAVE IN MY CAR. SHOULD THE DOORS CHOSE TO NOT LOCK AND THEY ACCIDENTALLY PULL THE DOOR OPEN IT WOULD BE A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. AND MY YOUNGEST HAS A PANIC ATTACK WHEN I GO TO GET HIM FROM THE CAR BUT CANT BECAUSE THE DOORS NEVER UNLOCKED WHEN WE PARKED. PLEASE FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT I LOVE MY RAV BUT IT IS NOT SAFE RIGHT NOW.
ALL THE APPS ON THE DASH BOARD, INCLUDING RADIO ARE GONE{WHITED OUT}. I AM AFRAID IF EVERYTHING IS SHUTING DOWN ALL AT ONCE WHILE I DRIVE AS IT DID ON THIS ONE
THE RADIO/INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES ARE FAILING (OURS FAILED LAST WEEK), WITH NUMEROUS EXAMPLES POSTED BY OWNERS ONLINE. A DEALERSHIP EVENTUALLY DETERMINED THAT THE ENTIRE RADIO UNIT NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT QUOTED COST OF $1160 TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS COURTEOUS BUT UNWILLING TO ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. THE RADIO SYSTEM APPEARS TO ENTER A BOOT LOOP WHERE A LOADING TYPE SCREEN APPEARS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS FOLLOWED BY THE SCREEN TURNING OFF FOR A TIME BEFORE RESTARTING THE LOOP. WHILE I WOULDN'T CONSIDER THE RADIO/INFOTAINMENT TO BE A CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT, THIS CONSTANT ON/OFF OF THE RADIO SCREEN IS A DISTRACTION FOR THE DRIVER. AT NIGHT ESPECIALLY, THE CHANGE IN BRIGHTNESS FROM SCREEN OFF TO SCREEN ON LIGHTS UP THE ENTIRE CABIN. FURTHERMORE, THE BOOT LOOP CANNOT BE STOPPED- NO BUTTONS WORK AND THE SEQUENCE REPEATS ITSELF FOREVER AS LONG AS THE KEY IS ON.
WHEN I HAD MY CAR IN PARK MY STEREO STOPPED WORKING. NO RADIO, NO SATELLITE, NO NOTHING OTHER THAN BACK UP CAMERA. WHEN I START THE CAR I GET A BLUE PICTURE OF THE STEREO AND A STATUS BAR LOADING LIKE ON COMPUTERS WHEN A PROGRAM IS LOADING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND HE EXPLAINED THAT THE REPLACEMENT WOULD COST 2,500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE AND HE EXPLAINED THERE WAS NO MEANS TO FIX IT. I WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ONLY 1 YEAR AND 6 MONTHS WITH 45000 MILES AND IT JUST SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THESE RADIOS THAT CAUSE THIS ENDLESS LOOP TO OCCUR. MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME MODEL OF CAR AS WELL.

I LOOKED AT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE ALTERNATOR AND THE AUTO LSD OR TRACK LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE ENGINE OPERATING TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL. SINCE THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL I TOLD MY DAUGHTER TO KEEP DRIVING TO GET OFF THE BRIDGE, I FELT AS THOUGH THE BRIDGE WAS A BAD PLACE TO PULL OVER. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE WE STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING AND AT THIS POINT WE DECIDED TO PULL OVER. WHEN WE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THREE OF US THEN EVACUATED THE VEHICLE AND STARTED WALKING AGAINST TRAFFIC ON THE BRIDGE. AS WE WERE WALKING AWAY THE SMOKE INTENSIFIED AND THEN ERUPTED INTO FLAMES THAT EMANATED FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE JUST BELOW THE WINDSHIELD. I CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE. I BELIEVE IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE.

MY AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK FAILED. LOCK ACTUATOR REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ON JANUARY 24, 2017. IT IS NOW FEBRUARY 2018 AND THE DOOR LOCKS HAVE FAILED AGAIN. I CANNOT LOCK MY CAR AS I CANNOT EVEN MANUALLY UNLOCK THE FRONT DOOR AS THE LOCK WILL NOT ALWAYS RESPOND TO THE TURN OF THE KEY. MY VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND TURNED ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY, AND INSTANTANEOUS FOR A FEW SECONDS (LIKE IT WAS BLINKING) SUPER FAST. EVERYTHING WAS GOING ON AND OFF. AS I WAS PULLING ONTO THE SHOULDER FROM THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE HIGHWAY, IT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY!!! I COULDN'T EVEN PUT MY HAZARDS ON. I WAS WAITING IN THE CAR FOR A TOW TRUCK AND MY HUSBAND, I WAS WITH MY DAUGHTER. THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE AND FLAME AND WAS ON FIRE. WE JUMPED OUT AND YET WAS UP IN FLAMES!!!!!!!

ISSUE FIRST STARTED WHEN BATTERY HAD TO BE JUMPED. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER WHEN IN MOTION DRIVING TO THE BANK, THE RADIO STARTED ACTING UP AND GOT STUCK ON STATION AND SONG AND THEN JUST WENT BLACK THEN A PICTURE OF THE RADIO APPEARED THE ON THE SCREEN AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO UPDATE BUT WOULD GO BLACK AGAIN AND THEN START OVER SO WAS STUCK IN SOME KIND OF REBOOT. NOT SURE IF ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR WHAT SO TOOK IT IN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD ONLY HAVE TO PAY $50-60 TO REBOOT IT. THEY CHECKED THE BATTERY AND SAID THE BATTERY WAS LOW CHARGE AND REPLACED IT AT NO CHARGE BUT SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT STAY UP LONG ENOUGH BEFORE IT WOULD BLACK OUT AGAIN. SINCE IT WAS BARELY PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE SYSTEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1000 TO HAVE REFURBISHED SYSTEM INSTALLED. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THIS WAS A COMMON COMPLAINT AND FOUND ONE HERE AT THIS SITE AS WELL SO ADDING MINE. I SENT LETTERS AND EMAILS TO TOYOTA TO STAND BEHIND THEIR LONG TIME CUSTOMERS AND PRODUCTS BUT THEY WOULD NOT BUDGE. MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS SHOULD NOT FAIL AFTER 3 YEARS. I CALL THAT A DEFECT BUT I GUESS BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE IT IS NOT IMPORTANT TO TOYOTA. WE ARE A TOYOTA FAMILY AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING TOYOTA'S SINCE MY FIRST CAR BACK IN THE 70'S. I WILL PROBABLY GO AHEAD AND REPLACE WITH REFURBISHED SYSTEM HOPING THIS IS NOT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND REPEAT BUT I WILL CERTAINLY RECONSIDER BEFORE PURCHASING ANOTHER TOYOTA IN THE FUTURE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 TOYOTA RAV4. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO LOCK THE VEHICLE DOORS, BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ELECTRONICALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS HAD TO BE LOCKED AND UNLOCKED MANUALLY. IN ADDITION, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ALSO FAILED TO UNLOCK WHEN LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (DICK DYER TOYOTA, LOCATED ON 240 KILLIAN COMMONS PARKWAY COLUMBIA, SC 29203) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT DOOR ACTUATORS ON BOTH SIDES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,312.

HI I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2014 RAV4 MY MILEAGE IS 62,000. PRIOR TO THIS CAR BEING 3 YEARS OLD AND 55,000 MILES THE RADIO SHORTED OUT INCLUDING THE BLUETOOTH AND NAVIGATION. I AM SHOCKED TOYOTA HAS NOT DONE A RECALL WHEN IT IS EVIDENT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT. BROWSING YOU TUBE SHOWS MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR TOYOTA RADIO. AFTER MONTHS OF SILENCE I ENDED UP PAYING $1345.41 TO REPLACE THIS UPON REASEARCH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON KNOWN PROBLEM. MY INVOICE #TOCS231192 WITH DUBLIN TOYOTA IS DATED 3/16/2017. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR REVIEW, CONSIDERATION AND RESPONSE IN THIS MATTER
RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 RAV4 NEAR DOWNTOWN TAMPA ON ADAMO DRIVE AND WAS TAKING A LEFT TURN, AND SUDDENLY I HEARD SOME KIND OF NOISE AND FELT LIKE MY VEHICLE WENT DEAD WITHOUT ANY ELECTRICAL POWER AND IT STARTED REVERSING ON IT'S OWN AND SPUN TO RIGHT. FORTUNATELY SINCE I WAS TAKING A TURN I WAS HARDY AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 10 MPH AND HENCE MY FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR & HEAD LIGHT ETC. GOT DAMAGED AND THERE WAS A VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE FRONT FENDER ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BEHIND OUR RAV4. FOR THE SAME REASON NONE OF US - EITHER MYSELF, MY FRONT CO-PASSENGER OR THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE BEHIND OUR RAV4 WERE PHYSICALLY HURT AND WERE VERY SAFE AFTER THIS INCIDENT. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE BEHIND OUR RAV4 INFORMED THAT HE HEARD A KIND OF STRANGE SOUND AND SAW OUR RAV4 REVERSING & TURNING RIGHT, AND HE MOVED AWAY INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE POLICE OFFICER, WHO HAS COME ALSO INFORMED THAT SHE HAS COME ACROSS THIS KIND OF INCIDENTS WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES RECENTLY, AND DID NOT GIVE ME CITATION AFTER REVIEWING MY INCIDENT FREE DRIVING RECORD AND ALSO SHE COULD NOT FIND REASON FOR THIS FREAK INCIDENT WHICH LOOKS MORE LIKE A MECHANICAL DEFECT OF MY RAV4, AND ADVISED TO TAKE TO TOYOTA DEALER FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION & RESOLUTION. ON FURTHER RESEARCH WE FOUND THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS RECALL - "ELECTRICAL POWER ASSIST SYSTEM" (EPS) FOR 2014 RAV4 WHICH WAS IDENTIFIED & DOCUMENTED BY TOYOTA ON 03/13/2015 BUT WAS NOT NOTIFIED TO THE CUSTOMERS. WE HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA COMPANY, COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, INFORMED THE RECALL AND WE ARE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA AFTER A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION, COMPUTER DATA ANALYSIS FROM OUR RAV4. I AM HEREWITH ATTACHING THE DOCUMENTATION FOR THE RECALL. I AM VERY MUCH WORRIED & CONCERNED ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, SINCE IT IS OF VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE REVIEW AND REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 8:20 AM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 16TH, 2015, I WAS PULLING INTO AN EMPTY PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AFTER DROPPING MY 6 YEAR-OLD AT SCHOOL. THIS WAS A ROUTINE AS I DO THIS EVERY MORNING. HOWEVER, AS I WAS SLOWING THE CAR DOWN PREPARING TO PARK (5-10 MPH), THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED (APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH) AND RAN OVER THE SIDEWALK, BUSHES AND INTO THE SIDE OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. DESPITE MY ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. IN THE PROCESS I RAN THROUGH THE SIDE OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX WALL AND FRONT GATE, NEARLY GOING RIGHT THROUGH MY FRONT DOOR AND LIVING ROOM WHERE MY 6 MONTH OLD AND WIFE WERE PLAYING. I HAD TO PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THAT STOPPED THE CAR. I THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND REVERSED. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DONE TO THE SIDE OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AND MY VEHICLE. SHOULD BE NOTED, THAT DESPITE THE IMPACT, NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. AT THE MOMENT, MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS ME AT FAULT. I HAVE FILED WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY ARE HAVING A SPECIALIST INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR. AND HOPE THAT THIS IS INVESTIGATED FURTHER. HAD I NOT TURNED OFF MY CAR, I WOULD HAVE SURELY GONE THROUGH MY FRONT DOOR AND INTO MY LIVING ROOM, POTENTIALLY HURTING MY 6 MONTH OLD AND WIFE. *TR

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

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2014 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ON AND OFF BUTTON TO THE BLUETOOTH THAT WAS STANDARD WITH THE VEHICLE SHOULD SHUT ON AND OFF BY USING THE POWER BUTTON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER BUTTON WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT TURN THE BLUETOOTH OFF WHEN IT WAS ENGAGED. THE CONTACT'S HEART ALSO BEGAN TO FUNCTION ABNORMALLY AND SHE BECAME EXTREMELY WEAK, NEARLY COLLAPSING AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE INABILITY TO TURN THE BLUETOOTH OFF AND ON IN ORDER TO PREVENT IT FROM INTERFERING WITH HER PACEMAKER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT SHE ADVISED THE DEALER PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THAT SHE HAD A PACEMAKER. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY HAZARD OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE OWNER'S MANUAL INDICATED CAUTION IF THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE HAD MEDICAL DEVICES SUCH AS PACEMAKERS. THE GENERAL MANAGER WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE CONTACT BECAME ILL AND STATED THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAREFUL. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED USING THE REMOTE KEY FOB. INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL SOUND AND THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED AND PUT INTO REVERSE THE BACKUP CAMERA IS DIM AND UNVIEWABLE FOR 15 SEC. BACKING UP DURING THIS PERIOD IS OBVIOUSLY HAZARDOUS AND IT IS VERY ANNOYING TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT BECOMES VISIBLE. THIS IS RELATED TO THE WHOLE DISPLAY CONSOLE AS THE RADIO, NAV SYSTEM, AND BU CAMERA ALL COME ON AFTER 15 SEC. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ON MY WIFE'S 2007 PRIUS ALTHOUGH OCCASIONALLY IT DOES NOT SWITCH TO THE BU CAMERA AT ALL. *TR
