My vehicle has randomly been flashing vbs/abs/traction control lights. Sometimes nothing happens other than the flashing lights. Other times I’ll be driving & when going around a curve my car makes a beeping noise (sounds like the abs noise activated) & I’ll feel a pulsing under the brake & hear a grinding sound. It doesn’t allow me to brake effectively. Another time I was coming to a stop behind a car at a red light. It was clear as day, roads weren’t wet & I couldn’t have been going over 10 mph. When hitting my brakes, my steering wheel kind of glided back & forth for a sec and it felt like my tires “floated”in the same motion as wheel until it stopped.

I was able to pull a reading from the OBD2 and it says there is a fault with the Yaw Rate Sensor. Please help before this causes someone's death. While driving on a highway at about 60 mph, my vehicle made a loud grinding noise while the steering felt very difficult to control and then the VSC TRAC and TRAC OFF lights both came on. I got off the highway and pulled over to a parking lot to inspect the vehicle, but I did not see anything that would cause the vehicle to do that. After a few minutes, I restarted the vehicle and while driving on local roads to get home, the same thing happened again. I was extremely worried for the safety of my wife and children in the vehicle. After reading a few Toyota owners threads online, this seems to be a very familiar pattern with these Toyota Sequoias, and I strongly believe that this will result in very serious injuries or possible deaths if Toyota does not issue a recall to fix the problem causing such dangers for drivers. Please investigate the matter to save lives. Thank you!

VSC, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE WARNING INSTRUMENT LIGHTS ON. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL AND VSC ARE INOPERABLE DUE TO A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON ISSUE WITH FIRST GENERATION SEQUOIAS. MY SPECIFIC CODES ARE C1241 AND C1203. TOYOTA TOLD ME I WILL NEED A NEW COMPUTER TO CONTROLS THOSE SYSTEMS AT A 921 DOLLAR EXPENSE. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN ONGOING SINCE 2009.

THE VEHICLE WILL LOSS POWER. THE VEHICLE ALSO JERKED AND PULLED WHILE ACCELERATING. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMAL HOWEVER AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. MY VEHICLE JERKS VIOLENTLY, A BUZZER SOUNDS, AND THE VSC AND TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND REMAIN ILLUMINATED. IF THOSE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED IT NO LONGER DOES THIS; HOWEVER, IF THE LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATED IT'S A COIN FLIP WHETHER BEING JERKED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON THE HIGHWAY. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DOESN'T KNOW WHAT PROBLEM IS. APPARENTLY IT COULD BE A DOZEN DIFFERENT THINGS AND THEY HAVE TO START REPLACING EACH ONE AT A TIME TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. TO REPLACE EVERYTHING IS SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS, PROBABLY MORE THAN THE BOOK VALUE OF THE VEHICLE.

I FORGOT TO MENTION IN COMPLAINT 11282925 THAT SOME OF THE DOZEN PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE VSC PROBLEM HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED BY TOYOTA. SO I COULD PAY THE DEALERSHIP THOUSANDS TO REPLACE SOME OF THE POSSIBLE CULPRITS BUT THE REAL PROBLEM COULD BE THE ITEMS THAT TOYOTA DISCONTINUED. TOYOTA CANNOT ISOLATE WHAT THE EXACT PROBLEM IS AND HAS TO REPLACE POSSIBLE CULPRITS TO SEE IT IT FIXES THE PROBLEM. AFTER ALL OF THIS AND A HUGE REPAIR BILL COULD STILL HAVE THE HIGHWAY SAFETY PROBLEM IF THE FAULTY PART(S) ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED. REPLACING ITEMS ONE AT A TIME AND THEN DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY TO SEE IF IT'S SAFE IS NOT A GOOD STRATEGY. TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL AND FIX ALL ITEMS AT THE SAME TIME AND ALSO PRODUCE THE PARTS THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED AS A WAY TO POSSIBLY TRY TO COVER UP THEIR NEGLIGENCE.

THE NEXT DAY I DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY ON A LOCAL STREET AFTER PICKING UP MY SON AFTER SCHOOL, THE BRAKE STARTED SHAKING THE CAR AND VSC OFF AND VSC TRACK LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN. I DRIVE THE CAR WITH CAUTION EVERYTIME AFTER THAT BUT THE OCCURANCE DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME NOR BEING RECREATE. IT HAPPENED EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS . THE FIRST INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 2019. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTY ROAD WHEN THE LIGHTS INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE TRAC AND VSC STARTED FLASHING AND BEEPING WHEN I DROVE OVER SOME BUMPS. THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO OFF EVEN WHEN PRESSING TRAC OFF. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE LIGHTS WERE OFF BUT ONLY FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE AGENT SAID HE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE SYSTEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT BACK FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THAT NIGHT I WAS GETTING READY TO GO OVER A RATHER LARGE BRIDGE WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR JERKED TWICE TO THE RIGHT WITH THE SECOND EVENT PULLING ME OFF THE ROAD. IT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND TERRIFIED US ALL. THANK GOD IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE BRIDGE OR UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES. THE VSC AND TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME TIME AS THEY HAD BEEN OFF. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND ESSENTIALLY THEY SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THANKFULLY I AM A EXPERIENCED DRIVER BUT IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF MY KIDS, I DON'T KNOW IF THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME. TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL ON THE 03 MODELS FOR THIS ISSUE AND PROVIDED A FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURS IN OTHER MODEL YEARS BUT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL FOR IT. DEALERSHIP WANTS APPROXIMATELY $2,000 TO REPLACE THE SKID CONTROL ECU.

AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR SEEMS TO BE IN NORMAL DRIVING MODE AGAIN EXCEPT FOR THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE VSC OFF-LIGHT. THE WARNING LIGHTS RESET SOMETIMES BUT THAT ONLY LEADS TO THE SAME PROBLEM STARTING AGAIN.

I PURCHASED MY SEQUOIA IN 2003 AND THE TRAC OFF/VSC TRAC LIGHTS STARTED TURNING ON A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER EVERY TIME I BRING THE CAR FOR SERVICE AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM. ONCE I TURN OFF CAR THE LIGHTS GO OFF. WELL, ON JULY 2015 WHILE TRAVELING ON A WINDY ROAD AT 35 MPH, WE HEARD AN WARNING ALARM SOUND FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THE STEERING LOCKED FOR ABOUT TWO SECONDS AND THE CAR FELT LIKE WE HAD A FLAT TIRE OR DRAGGING SOMETHING UNDERNEATH. AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS THE CAR RESUMED BACK TO NORMAL AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING STALL AND IT DID THE EXACT THING, INCLUDING STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. I THOUGHT I HAD RANED OVER SOMETHING, BUT THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL. NOW EVERY TWO WEEKS AFTER I GET ON THE FREEWAY THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN, ONE TIME IT SOUNDED LIKE MY ENGINE FELL OFF. SOMETIMES IS WORSE THAN OTHERS AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M GOING 25 OR 65 MPH. I MANAGED TO GET IT HOME, AS I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM THERE, WHERE I PARKED IT, AND HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO PULL A CODE...THE YAW SENSOR. BUT, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, AFTER TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, AT ANY SPEED, AND WITH NO WARNING OR VISIBLE REASON FOR DOING SO. IDENTICAL PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED BY MANY OTHERS. VSC-TRAC AND TRAC-OFF LIGHTS RANDOMLY ILLUMINATED ON DRY, LEVEL PAVEMENT WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, CAUSING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE (MUCH LOUDER THAN NORMAL APPLICATION OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES), AND CAR PULLED AND WOULD NOT STOP NO MATTER HOW HARD THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. FIRST COUPLE TIMES, BRAKES WERE APPLIED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC, SO THE FAILURE TO FULLY STOP WASN'T NOTICED. THIS NOW HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY WHENEVER I DRIVE AND DOES NOT MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW I AM GOING. THESE FAILURES CLEARLY PUT VEHICLES AT RISK OF ACCIDENTS, AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE 2003 SEQUOIAS WERE RECALLED FOR VSC ISSUES, BUT NOT THE 2002, WHEN THE PARTS BEING REPLACED FIT BOTH YEARS. THE FIRST TIME MY ABS/VCS TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON WAS AFTER I HAD TO BRAKE HARD ON A DOWNWARD HILL. I ACCELERATED TO CLIMB THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL AND IT WAS AFTER DOING THAT WHICH THE VCS TRAC AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS FIRST CAME ON AT AROUND 168,000 MILES. THERE WAS A FAST BEEPING SOUND LASTING FOR MAYBE 10 SEC THEN IT REGAINED POWER. NOW IT WILL DO IT WITHIN JUST A FEW MILES OF OUR HOME. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL MORE OCCASIONS SINCE THIS INITIAL INCIDENT WHERE THERE WAS A JERKING/PULLING OF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING WOULD COME ON AND OFF LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO SURGE. ALSO IDLES VERY LOW, BELOW 500 RPM AND THEN FINALLY SHUTS OFF. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT TO GET FIXED ON IT SINCE WE HAVE READ THAT OTHER OWNERS ARE BEING TOLD THAT ITS ANYTHING FROM A YAW SENSOR, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR, BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM, OR A SKID CONTROL COMPUTER ISSUE. ALL OF THESE ARE VERY PRICEY TO GET FIXED AND THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT THEY WILL EVEN CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MOST HAVE HAD THE YAW SENSOR REPLACED AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SOME OF THE MECHANICS WE HAVE TALKED TO SAID THAT THERE COULD BE BRAKE DUST OR MUD AND ROAD GRIME BUILD UP OVER THE SENSOR MAKING IT MALFUNCTION AND THAT IT SHOULD BE HOSED OFF AT AN UNDERBODY CARWASH. WE HAVEN'T TRIED THIS YET SINCE WE DIDN'T PUT MUCH FAITH IN IT UNTIL WE DISCOVERED HEARING AGAIN ON YOUTUBE. THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VCS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED DOWN TO THE 2002 MODELS AS WELL. WE ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THAT THEY DID.

IN FEB. 2009, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THE BRAKES ON MY SEQUOIA BEGAN TO LOCK AND THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND SENSOR LIGHTS BEGAN TO BLINK UNCONTROLLABLY. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR STEERING AND WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUED AND I TOOK IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER WHO CHARGED ME $2700.00 AND BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON RATS. AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP THE PROBLEM CONTINUED A FEW WEEKS LATER AND THE SAME DEALERSHIP STILL INSISTED THAT IT WAS RATS AND CHARGED ME AN ADDITIONAL $2300.00. YET THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED SO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO HAS NO TIES WITH TOYOTA AND HE REPLACED A COMPUTER SENSOR. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS UNTIL RECENTLY DURING A RECENT RAIN STORM IT STARTED TO ACT UP AGAIN. DRIVING THIS CAR HAS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE AND SCARY AT BEST. I CAME INTO SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WITH OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING WHEN MY CAR WOULD LOOSE ALL ABILITY TO STEER AND MY BRAKES WOULD LOCK DURING SEVERAL INSTANCES. THE VSC LIGHTS AND TRACTION LIGHTS HAVE BEEN RANDOMLY COMING ON SINCE WE PURCHASED THE SEQUOIA IN 2005 WITH APPROX. 80K ON IT. THEY TYPICALLY GO OFF ON THEIR OWN AND DO NOT CAUSE ANY ISSUES. NOW THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON, FLASHES AND BEEPS WHILE LOCKING UP THE ABS AND MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE UNTIL IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS AND NOT CAUSED ANY ACCIDENTS YET. IT APPERARS THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE WITH A COMBINATION OF PARTS STARTING WITH THE VSC COMPUTER, YAW SENSOR AND STEERING ANGLE SENSOR. HOPEFULLY TOYOTA WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS DUE TO THE OVERALL SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

DURING RUSH HOUR, A VEHICLE BEFORE ME ABRUPTLY STOPPED. TO AVOID FROM HITTING THEM I SWERVED TO THE LEFT HITTING A WALL DIVIDER WHEN THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL CAVED IN HAVING ME AND MY FAMILY SWERVE ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT INTO ANOTHER SOUND WALL. WHAT I TRIED TO DO WAS HIT THE BRAKE BEFORE GOING HEAD ON INTO THE WALL BUT THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK CAUSING US TO ACCELERATE INTO THE WALL. LUCKILY THERE WERE SHRUBS AND BUSHES TO HELP THE CAR GO INTO A SLOW AS WE SLID ACROSS THE WALL. I DONT KNOW WHY THE GAS PEDAL DECIDE TO GET STUCK AND ACCELERATE US INTO THE WALL BUT IM HEARING FROM OTHER SEQUOIA OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR PEDALS AND THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK LOST POWER AS CARS SWERVED AROUND ME AND A VIOLENT GRINDING NOISE STARTED. A SKID CONTROL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I COULD FEEL THE GRINDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE TRUCK BEEPED AND 2 MORE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE "TRAC OFF" AND "VSC" CAME ON. AFTER THAT THE TRUCK DROVE NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW! I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE ON THE ROAD AS THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT. I HAVE READ ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. WHILE TRAVELING HOME AT NORMAL SPEED THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING AND MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. AFTER STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND WAS TOLD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON TO POSSIBLY RESET THE VSC/TRAC. IT SEEMED TO WORK BRIEFLY BUT IT STARTED TO DO IT AGAIN. AFTER MAKING IT HOME, MY HUSBAND DROVE THE VEHICLE INITIALLY WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. HOWEVER, HE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE STORE AND THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. HE NOTED AUDIBLE ALERTS AND THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, GRINDING FROM WHAT SEEMED TO BE THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. HE HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE SPEED WAS ESTIMATED AT 35-40 MPH, DRY CONDITIONS WITH NO OBVIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS OR ISSUES. SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE PASSENGER FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN NOTED SEVERAL TIME RANDOMLY OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, BUT HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN RESOLVED BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. VEHICLE SKID CONTROL SIMPLY ENGAGES AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. HARD GRINDING, PULLING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT AND ALMOST NO BRAKING. YES, THEY RECALLED 2003 TO 05 BUT NOT 2002? WHY? IT'S THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED AT SOME POINT AND IN FACT, THERE ARE SOME ACCOUNTS OF INJURY. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 02' SEQUOIA. AT FIRST THE VSC TRAC LIGHT/ VSC OFF WOULD COME ON & GO OFF AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF. THEN IT STARTED STAYING ON ALONG W/ ABS LIGHT & BRAKE. ALL THE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO STAY ON. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 126,800 MILES WHICH I CONSIDER LESS TO BE HAVING AN ISSUE AT THIS TIME. I'M A MOTHER OF THREE IN WHICH THIS IS MY PRIMARY VEHICLE THAT CARRIES MY PRECIOUS CARGO. DURING MY EVENING COMMUTE WHILE DRIVING ON I-20 WEST AT 75 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL TUGGED AND THE FRONT BRAKE ENGAGED. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS, THE SLIPPERY WET LAMP FLASHED AND AN ALARM BUZZER SOUNDED FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. AFTERWARDS, THE VSC TRAC AND TRAF OFF LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON. I DROVE TO AN ORIENTATION AND WHILE ON THE WAY HOME AT 45 MPH, ALL OF THE PREVIOUSLY STATED ALARMS AND MALFUNCTIONS OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE BRAKES ENGAGED WITH A LOUD NOISE. I STOP FOR GAS AT MY USUAL 1/4 TANK LEVEL AND WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM THE FUEL STATION, ALL ALARMS AND ALL MALFUNCTIONS RECURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME WITHIN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. THE ABS ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH. I CALLED THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND COORDINATED TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE NIGHT DEPOSIT BOX FOR MAINTENANCE THE NEXT MORNING. TOYOTA KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND REPLACED THE SKID CONTROL ECU ANTICIPATING THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE RESOLVED. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD THE BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED AND REPLACED ON 08/17/2012 AS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 262,223 MILES. THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN DAYS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON A FLAT CONCRETE PAVED ROAD IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE SLIPPERY WET LAMP LIT AND THE ALARM SOUNDED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS WHILE THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED ON. THE LAMP FLASHED UNTIL THE BRAKES RELEASED AND THE VSC TRAC AND TRAC OFF LAMPS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHICH THE SKID CONTROL ECU WAS REPLACED FOR $770.79. THIS IS A REPEATED OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEMS. I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE BACK TO TOYOTA TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE MAINTENANCE COST $1,606.24 AND THEY KEPT IF FOR 5 DAYS. *TR

AGAIN, AFTER PICKING THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHICH THE SKID CONTROL ECU AND BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE REPEATED ALL ALARMS AND MALFUNCTIONS AS BEFORE: SLIPPERY LAMP ILLUMINATED, ALARM SOUNDED, VSC TRAC AND TRAC OFF LAMP LIT WHILE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING ON A SLIGHT DECLINE AT 45 MPH. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY! THE TECHNICIANS INFORMED ME ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY THAT THE SEAL FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS CRACKED AFTER REPLACING THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSY. SURPRISINGLY, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND I AM TAKING IT BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOMORROW MORNING. THERE HAS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM AS THIS PROBLEM IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT TOYOTA WOULD KEEP THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH KNOW PROBLEMS OF THE SUCH. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY MYSELF AND MY COWORKER AS WE COMMUTE IN THE VEHICLE DAILY. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THAT OF MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WHEN WE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR

OUR 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS A COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT FRAME, REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND OTHER PARTS SUCH AS BRAKE LINES ETC. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL EXPLODED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE ANY FURTHER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING DESPITE BEING IN PARK. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKING FLUID. WE THEN DISCOVERED THAT IN ADDITION THE FRAME OF THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE RUSTED FRAME AND UNDER CARRIAGE. OUR DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN WONDERFUL AND RENTED ME A CAR AND WILL REPLACE THE FRAME BUT TOYOTA IS SAYING THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT. *TR

WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL (VSC) AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TRAC) WARNING LIGHTS SUDDENLY BEGAN FLASHING AND BEEPING. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND A LOUD GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THE ABS SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED. THIS MADE FOR A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC! AFTER ABOUT FIVE SECONDS, THE GRINDING/ABS ACTIVATION AND WARNING BEEPS STOPPED, BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS STAYED ILLUMINATED. WHEN TAKING THE NEXT HIGHWAY OFFRAMP AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE WARNING LIGHTS AND GRINDING STARTED AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKING WAS OVERRIDDEN BY THE ABS! ONLY AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING DID THE WARNING LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE 2003 SEQUOIA WAS RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE 2002 SEQUOIA SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED. DOES THERE HAVE TO BE ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES BEFORE THIS WILL HAPPEN?? TOYOTA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. *TR

OVER THE LAST WEEK THE VSC OFF LIGHTS HAVE STARTED GOING ON AND OFF AND AFTER REVIEWING SOME LITERATURE ON LINE IT SEEMS THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE 2003 SEQUOIA WAS ACTUALLY RECALLED FOR THIS SAME THING. VERY DANGEROUS AND NOW I WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE DEALER TO SEE ABOUT IT GETTING FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF. EVEN IF THERE IS NOT A RECALL I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE DANGER I WAS PUTTING MYSELF IN.
