This Toyota has several large rust holes directly on the frame. i hit a pot hole and more structure damage was revealed on the frame from rust. The truck drives rough now. The vehicle only has 150,000 miles. The rust holes are so severe that they're directly under my suspension. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle. Their was once a recall for the frame. It doesn't seem that it was satisfied. I'm very worried about this issue. Toyota should have to replace frame or make it safe to drive.

Back in 2018 toyota did the undercoat to my 2006 Toyota sequoia frame to prevent rust. Now my frame is completely rotted out to the point i can’t drive my vehicle.

Frame of this vehicle has lot of rust damage, is it still under manufacture recall? How can I ensure safety of my vehicle along with rusty frame? The driver side, rear, trailing arm broke away from the vehicles frame due to “frame rot” while driving. The vehicle became extremely dangerous to drive. Toyota has since declined to help. They said they notified us via mail of a customer service campaign addressing the premature rust issue, but we never learned of the program and lawsuit until after the frame broke and I almost crashed. Later I saw the broken arm/frame under the vehicle. This frame failure can potentially be a catastrophic and deadly event. I opened an insurance claim and it was denied and I was referred back to Toyota. Our vehicle has been factory maintained it’s entire life. No service advisors ever mentioned a possible problem to my family and I. I recently spoke to the Toyota service manager at Parker Toyota in Couer d Alene Idaho and his master technicians have seen the same failure that occurred on our vehicle. This is extremely dangerous.

I was on the freeway driving and out of nowhere the body started swaying and bobbing with no control. Was informed by the tow truck driver that i could have rolled the vehicle easily and the consequences would have been serious. The frame is so rusted out that the tie rod and sway bar assembly are completely detached from the frame and hanging loose. Upon further inspection at the auto repair garage there are rusting issues throughout the frame. The frame needs complete replacement.

Frame rusted out and parts dropping off frame with no early warning. Toyota completed corrosion resistant compound 2 years ago following inspection per limited service campaign H0F, saying issue resolved to extent of warranty with known rust issue for this year and model. Now another independent garage saying we never should have been driving, much less hauling 5000 lb. trailer. Only warning was odd sound from under carriage.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SETTLEMENT POSTCARD FOR THE FRAME ALONG WITH UNKNOWN RECALL NOTICES REGARDING THE AIR BAGS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BUTLER TOYOTA (9419 ARONSON DR, INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46240, (317) 848-4210) SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE THE FRAME REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS WERE REPAIRED INSTEAD. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SETTLEMENT LETTER HAD EXPIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND WAS DETERIORATING RAPIDLY. THE DEALER QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF $2,000 FOR AN AIR SUSPENSION AIR BAG THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE COST TO REPAIR THE FRAME WAS $3,000. THE DEALER DID NOT INCLUDE ON THE PAPERWORK THAT THE FRAME WAS THE MAIN REASON THE CONTACT BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IF THE DEALER HAD INCLUDED THE FRAME ON THE REPAIR ORDER, THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE FRAME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.

IN MID-OCTOBER 2018 WE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA MOTORS, INC., OF THE FOLLOWING: 'WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION ' ZH8 AND LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN ' HOF.' THE ZH8 AND HOF WERE INSTITUTED AS A RESULT OF A DETERMINATION THAT THE FRAMES ON CERTAIN TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE PRONE TO 'EXCESSIVE, PREMATURE RUST CORROSION BECAUSE THE FRAMES WERE NOT PROPERLY PREPARED AND TREATED AGAINST RUST CORROSION WHEN THEY WERE MANUFACTURED.' EXCESSIVE RUST CORROSION ON MY SUV 'COMPROMISES THE VEHICLES' SAFETY, STABILITY, AND CRASH-WORTHINESS BECAUSE IMPORTANT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, AND BODY MOUNTS ANCHOR TO THE VEHICLES' FRAMES'. BY DRIVING MY HIGH END SUV, I WILL BE PUTTING MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AT RISK. ON 10/25/2018: WE TOOK OUR SUV TO JIM COLEMAN TOYOTA IN BETHESDA, MD FOR FRAME INSPECTION. IT WAS DURING THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT JIM COLEMAN ONLY HAD ONE PERSON PERFORMING THIS WORK. AND THAT WE HAD TWO YEARS FROM OCTOBER 2018 TO HAVE THE WORK PERFORMED BY TOYOTA AT NO CHARGE. ON MONDAY MARCH 10, 2019, WE LEFT OUR SUV WITH THE TOYOTA DEALER SO THAT THE HOF WORK COULD BE PERFORMED. WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER AT 5:05PM ON FRIDAY 03/15/2019 INFORMING US THAT (A) OUR SUV HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED SINCE THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (B) THAT THERE ARE LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME AND (C) NO WORK WOULD BE PERFORMED SINCE THE HOF HAD ENDED IN JANUARY 2019. WE PAID OVER $60,000.00 FOR OUR TOYOTA SUV NOT MANY YEARS AGO. WE LITERALLY RECEIVED A DIFFERENT ANSWER REGARDING THE CRC AND HOF EACH TIME WE CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS

I CALLED AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE IT WAS BEING WORKED ON, IT WOULD BE HONORED ANYWAYS. CALLED TO SCHEDULE TO BRING IT IN AND THEY SAID, SORRY, THAT EXPIRED, SO YOU HAVE TO GET APPROVAL FROM TOYOTA BUT WE CAN STILL COAT IT IN ANTI CORROSION TIL THE END OF MAY. I CALLED TOYOTA AND SPOKE TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE WHO ALL SAID, ITS EXPIRED AND WE CAN'T HELP YOU. SO NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE WITH A PROVEN UNSAFE FRAME AND NO SOLUTION.

I HAVE REPLACED THE LATCH ON MY LIFT GATE 3 TIMES NOW. THE LATCH KEEPS BREAKING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I DON'T SEE A RECALL FOR IT BUT I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR IT. I CAN'T ACCESS MY SPARE TIRE IF I HAVE A FLAT OR SOMETHING. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION, THE VEHICLE FAILED DUE TO A HOLE IN THE REAR OF THE FRAME NEAR THE HITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TRI COUNTY TOYOTA (15 D AND L DR, ROYERSFORD, PA 19468) WHERE IT WAS ALSO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HOLE IN THE FRAME WAS DUE TO RUST. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT PROCEED WITH A REPAIR BECAUSE NHTSA HAD TO AGREE TO A PLAN TO INITIATE A RECALL AND REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PERFORM A TEMPORARY WELD ON THE FRAME UNTIL TOYOTA COULD ISSUE A RECALL WITH A FINAL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

HIS ASSESSMENT WAS THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM PETITIONING THAT TOYOTA STAND BEHIND THIS ISSUE FOR OUR SAFETY!!

THESE FRAMES SUFFER FROM THE SAME ISSUE AS OTHER TOYOTA TRUCKS WHERE TOYOTA REPLACED THE FRAMES. THIS RUST CONDITION MAKES THESE VEHICLES UNSAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLES NEW IN 2006 AND MAINTAINED IT WELL. I ADDRESSED THE EXTERNAL RUST BUT CAN NOT PREVENT THE INTERNAL RUST. THE FRAMES NEED TO BE REPLACED OR THE VEHICLE BROUGHT BACK AND DISPOSED OF.

FRAME HAS RUST CORROSION CAUSING 18 INCH PERFORATED HOLE IN FRONT FRAME OF CAR. THIS IS SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS WARRANTED A RECALL OF THE TOYOTA TUNDRA WHICH USES THE SAME FRAME. THE CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE RUST CORROSION ON THE FRAME. THIS MUST BE DUE TO POOR QUALITY MATERIAL AND COATING OF THE ORIGINAL FRAME. THROUGH RESEARCH APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN SEQUOIA THAT ARE IN AREAS DEALING WITH ROAD SALT. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE THIS MODEL ALONG WITH THE TUNDRA. THE CAR IS PARKED OUTSIDE DRIVEWAY AND MOSTLY LOCAL DRIVING.

WHEN THEY RAISED IT ON THE LIFT, THEY SAID THE VEHICLE BEHAVED IMPROPERLY AND THEY WERE ALARMED. THAT IS WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THE LARGE, RUSTED HOLE IN THE FRAME! WHAT A SHOCK IT WAS WHEN THEY TOLD ME, AND THEN, TO BE ADVISED THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE! IF I HAD NOT TAKEN IT IN FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL, MY FAMILY AND I COULD BE DEAD RIGHT NOW, IF CONDITIONS HAD BEEN JUST SO. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE THAT TOYOTA IS PUTTING PEOPLES' LIVES IN DANGER BY NOT RECALLING ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS FRAME AND STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. ARE THEY WAITING FOR A DEATH(S) TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY ARE FORCED TO RECALL? THEY CERTAINLY KNOW THAT OTHER NON-RECALLED MODELS OF SEQUOIA HAVE FRAME ROT. PRESENTLY, MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IS WAITING FOR APPROVAL OR DISAPPROVAL TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. I AM WARY AND LEFT IN CONSTANT WORRY IF TOYOTA WILL HELP, BASED ON THE REPORTS OF OTHER PEOPLES' EXPERIENCES WHOSE VEHICLES WERE NOT RECALLED YET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH (TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE) DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HATCH WINDOW DID NOT OPEN AND THE REAR WIPER DID NOT WORK DUE TO RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT THE HATCH MECHANISM WAS UPGRADED WITH A METAL PIECE TO PREVENT IT FROM RUSTING AGAIN. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTING BADLY TO THE POINT THAT I HAVE FOUND ITEMS THAT HAVE RUSTED OFF THE FRAME LYING IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER THE CAR IS PARKED. THE INSIDE OF THE REAR HATCH IS RUSTED OUT BEYOND USE. CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED AND ALWAYS IN COVERED PARKING. PARTS OF THE FRAME CAN BE PULLED OFF DUE OT THE RUST FLAKING AND PARTS CAN BE PULLED OFF THAT SHOULD BE BOLTED THE CAR.

WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE, WHETHER SPARE TIRE, REAR BRAKES FAILING, OTHER COMPONENTS FALLING OFF CAUSING DAMAGE TO CAR AND PEOPLE DRIVING BEHIND . DURING SERVICING, THE SEQUOIA WAS FOUND TO HAVE A RUSTED/ROTTEN FRAME AND DECLARED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TOYOTA HAS HAD OTHER FRAME RUST REPLACEMENT RECALLS FOR THIS MODEL, BUT NOT FOR THE MODEL YEAR IN QUESTION. THEY HAVE HAD FRAME RECALLS FOR 2006 FOR SIMILAR MODELS (TACOMA). THIS SAFETY ISSUE WAS NOT FOUND BY THE DEALERSHIP PREVIOUSLY, ALTHOUGH THE DANGEROUS SITUATION WOULD HAVE EXISTED. TOYOTA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE.

MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS A 2006 4X4 AND HAS EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST AT THE WELD SEEMS AND ALL OVER THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA HAS STARTED TO RECALL AND REPLACE THESE FRAMES THAT ARE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THIS RUST AT THE FRAME WELD AND THAT SNOW AND ROAD SALT AND ICE MELTER ARE CAUSING MY FRAME TO RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. MY SEQUOIA WAS ORIGINALLY LICENSED IN KANSAS AND THEY USE HEAVY ROAD SALT. I LIVE IN COLORADO AND THEY HAVE A HEAVY USE OF MAG CHLORIDE, WHICH IS A MAJOR RUST FACTOR. THE TOYOTA FRAME LOOKS LIKE IT WAS NEVER PROPERLY TREATED TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF RUSTING. I WOULD LIKE MY FRAME TO ALSO BE REPLACED AND COVERED BY TOYOTA UNDER THIS RECALL. PUSHED SWITCH FOR POWER REAR TAILGATE WINDOW, WINDOW ASSEMBLY BROKE AND WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO DOOR. UPON EXAMINATION, ALL COMPONENTS - REGULATOR ASSEMBLY AND ALL CONNECTING PARTS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH LED TO FAILURE. LESS THAN 12 MONTHS LATER, REAR TAILGATE OUTSIDE HANDLE BROKE; AGAIN UNDER EXAMINATION THE ENTIRE INTERIOR LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH CAUSED FAILURE. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A DESIGN OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT. WATER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LEAKING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE TAILGATE. FROM THE EXTENT OF CORROSION, THIS CONDITION HAD BEEN OCCURRING FOR MANY YEARS - MOST LIKELY IN MY OPINION IMMEDIATELY FROM THE TIME THAT WE ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE NEW. THE FAILURE, WHILE CAUSED FROM A DEFECT FROM THE BEGINNING OF VEHICLE LIFE, MANIFESTED ITSELF AFTER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY PERIOD AND TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS. 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. CONSUMER STATES MATS WOULD CONSTANTLY MOVE UNDER THE PEDALS INTERFERING WITH GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE WHILE DRIVING HIGH SPEEDS AND WHEN IT RAINS WATER WOULD LEAK INSIDE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ASSURED HER, THEY HAD RECTIFIED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE MATS AND MAKING SURE THE LINING AROUND THE WINDOWS WERE TIGHT. HOWEVER, THE LEAK CONTINUED AS WELL AS THE NOISE WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE NAVIGATION/RADIO,CD PLAYER WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. THE DEALER WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE WATER FROM LEAKING IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER THEN STATED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL/ HESITATE WHILE TURNING AND THEN IT WOULD JERK FAST AT TIMES. A DIAGNOSIS REVEALED THE TRANSMISSION PAN GASKET WAS LEAKING. ALSO THE POWER OUTLETS WERE NO LONGER WORKING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RIDE ROUGH, THE SEAT WOULD GRIND AND VIBRATE, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE BRAKE HARDWARE KIT WAS FALLING APART, THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE GASKETS, THE TRUNK WOULDN'T OPEN. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE DEALER STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE DRAIN PLUG WAS MISSING. *JB

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED. WHEN IT RAINED I NOTICED WATER WAS GETTING IN THE VEHICLE AT THE REAR HATCH AND UNDER THE RIGHT CENTER ROW SEAT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE BOLTS FOR THE LEFT HATCH SHOCK; THEY REMOVED ALL REAR INTERIOR AND FOUND "MANY HARDWARE PIECES MISSING". THE DEALER STATES THE BOLTS WERE REMOVED, CLEANED, AND APPLIED SILICONE TO THEM. APPARENTLY THE LEAK IS GONE. HOWEVER, WHENEVER IT RAINS, I AM CONCERNED THE PROBLEM COULD COME BACK. *TR
