The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired and welded the rear subframe of the vehicle. The contact indicated that in 2017 the vehicle was serviced under the Manufacturer Extended Warranty Service Campaign regarding rusting and corrosion of the subframe. I noticed under my SUV frame is alot of rust on several areas.and I read about the recall on sequoias frames and I would like you to help me to resolve this problem thanks. 2007 Toyota Sequoia. Consumer writes in regards to rusted frame on vehicle. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE RUSTED FRAME, BUT WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF IT. THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED A NOTICE WAS SENT. THE CONSUMER CLAIMED TO NOT HAVE RECEIVED THE LETTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.

IN JUNE OF 2018 I WENT TO WALKER TOYOTA FOR AN AIRBAG RECALL THAT THEY HAD SENT ME NOTICES ON. WHILE THERE I ASKED ABOUT A FRAME RECALL THAT SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE I HAVE TOLD ME ABOUT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER FOR THAT. SO I THOUGHT I WAS IN THE CLEAR. AS WE GET INTO FALL MY FRIENDS ASK ME HOW MY RECALL ON THE FRAME WENT? DID THEY SPRAY THE FRAME OR REPLACE IT. I SAID THEY DID NEITHER. I TOLD THEM WALKER TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THAT. THEY ALL SAID YES THERE WAS. SO I STARTED TO LOOK INTO IT FURTHER AND FINALLY GOT THEM TO ADMIT THERE WAS A RECALL. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY DO NOT DO MUST HAVE BEEN THE REASON THE TECH TOLD ME THIS WHEN I WAS THERE FOR THE AIRBAG. NOW I KNOW THIS IS A LIE BECAUSE I HAD A TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT HAD A FRAME RECALL AND WALKER DID THE FRAME REPLACEMENT. SO THEN AFTER GOING FURTHER THEY SAID "OH WE DO NOT DO THE UNDER BODY SPRAY BECAUSE WE ARE NOT LICENSED BY THE CITY TO DO IT". SO THEY GAVE ME THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN BEAVERCREEK OHIO WHICH IS PRETTY CLOSE AS SOMEONE WHO COULD DO IT. SO I CALLED THEM AND THERE WAS ONE GUY IN CHARGE OF THAT AND HE WAS NOT IN. BUT THEY DO NOT TAKE MESSAGES? I CALLED QUITE A FEW TIMES AFTER THAT TO TRY AND SET APPOINTMENT WHICH TOOK A WHILE TO GET. I GO TO APPOINTMENT AND HE SAYS THE FRAME IS BAD BUT IT IS 45 DAYS AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE RECALL. A RECALL THAT THEY LIED TO ME ABOUT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO THEM. THEY LOOKED INTO IT AND SAID SORRY BUT WE WILL BE DOING NOTHING. THEY SAID THEY SENT ME LETTERS OF WHICH I DO NOT RECALL GETTING. THEY DID SEND ME LETTERS FOR THE AIRBAG EVERY MONTH UP UNTIL JUST A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. EVEN THOUGH THAT WORK HAD BEEN DONE. SO I AM NOW DRIVING A TRUCK THEY SAY IS UNSAFE BUT I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER. ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, I WAS DRIVING OUR 2007 TOYOTA SEQUOIA 4X4 ON A RURAL ROAD THAT HAD HAD FRESH SNOW THE NIGHT BEFORE, BUT NO SAND OR OTHER ROAD SALT WAS LAID DOWN. IT IS A CURVY AND HILLY ROAD. I HAD DRIVEN ON THE ROAD AN HOUR EARLIER WITH NO PROBLEMS. AT APPROXIMATELY 9AM, I ENCOUNTERED A PATCH OF ICE WHERE THERE WAS A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND MY SUV THAT HAD BRAND NEW MICHELIN TIRES ON COLLIDED WITH A TREE THAT WAS PART OF AN ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE TREE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15 INCHES IN DIAMETER. THE COLLISION STRUCK DIRECTLY ON LEFT SIDE OF ENGINE BY HEADLIGHT'PLOWING IN APPROXIMATELY 9 INCHES AND DEFLATED FRONT TIRE. FRONT SUSPENSION WAS BROKEN AS IS HOOD ( SEE PICTURE). NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED?? I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH AT IMPACT. MY AIRBAG ON DRIVERS SIDE WAS RECALLED WITH TAKATA RECALL AND REPLACED , BUT I WONDER IF IT WAS INSTALLED PROPERLY OR WRONG? I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND OTHER TRAUMA TOYOTA DEALER BODY SHOP INDICATES THAT ALL SENSORS FOR AIRBAGS ON FRAME ONLY AND SINCE FRAME NOT HIT NO DEPLOYMENT??

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE SUBFRAME EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE RUSTING. IN 2011, AN UNDERCOATING MATERIAL WAS APPLIED TO PREVENT THE RUSTING, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE REAR LATCH WOULD NOT WORK DURING A CAMPING TRIP IN A REMOTE AREA. THE REAR SEATS HAD BEEN REMOVED AS PER THE OWNERS MANUAL PRIOR TO THE TRIP. THE REAR PORTION OF THE VEHICLE WAS FULL OF CAMPING GEAR, FOOD, WATER, AND OUR FIRST AIDE KIT . I SPRAINED MY HAND AND BACK WHILE FIRST ATTEMPTING REPEATED TIMES TO OPEN THE TAILGATE AND THEN HAVING TO RESORT TO LIFTING HEAVY EQUIPMENT THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW AND ALSO OVER THE PASSENGER SEATS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER AT OUT FIRST OPPORTUNITY. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS DESCRIBED TO MY WIFE AND I AS WEAK ENGINEERING AND A PLASTIC PART ALSO KNOW TO FAIL. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN RAISED BY DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON DUSTY ROADS, BECAUSE THE LATCH WAS NOT PROTECTED FROM DUST AND IT WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND WAS LIKELY TO FAIL IF IT GOT DIRTY. WE LEARNED FROM THIS DEALER THAT WE HAD ALREADY HAD THE LATCH REPLACED A YEAR PRIOR. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA WOULD NO LONGER STAND BEHIND REPAIRS TO THIS VEHICLES TAILGATE LATCH BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS CHRONIC AND THE REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN IMPROVE TO PREVENT EXPECTED FAILURES. THE DEALER REPLACED, CLEANED AND LUBRICATE THE LATCH PARTS AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO PROTECT THEM USING A SURPLUS PLASTIC BAG. I AM CONCERNED THAT WHEN THE LATCH FAILS AGAIN IT MAY BE DURING AN EMERGENCY, OR CAUSE ANOTHER INJURY, OR ENTRAPMENT... *TR

THE REAR LATCH WHICH CONTROLS THE OPENING OF THE REAR HATCH BROKE. THIS PART IS MADE OF PLASTIC (PERHAPS COSTING 0.30), AND IT IS SHELTERED FROM DIRECT SUN AND WEAR AND TEAR BY BEING COVERED WITH A PART OF THE HATCH WHICH IS MADE OF STEEL. THE HATCH WHEN THIS PART IS BROKEN CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS MEANS ONE CANNOT GAIN ACCESS TO THE SPARE TIRE OR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PART COSTS OVER $90, AND THE LABOR TO REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $170. COMBINED THIS APPROACHES $300 WITH TAX. WHEN I BROUGHT THIS INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THEY POINTED OUT THAT THEY HAD TWO OTHER SEQUOIAS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP HAVING THE SAME REPAIR BEING PERFORMED. THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK BECAUSE IT OCCURS SO OFTEN. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET HAS SHOWN THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF TIMES. A RECALL WOULD APPEAR TO BE IN ORDER. *TR

IN JANUARY 2010, AS I WAS DOING AN OIL CHANGE ON MY 2007 SEQUOIA, I NOTICED SOME CORROSION ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD AND ALSO THROUGH THE ENGINE BAY. I TOOK IT IN TO MID CITY TOYOTA FOR AN WARRANTY CLAIM INSPECTION ON THE ISSUE, MARCH 2010. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT IT WAS A DEFECT OF SOMETHING, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS. THE DEALERSHIP CAME BACK AND SAID I MUST HAVE FILLED THE WATER IN THE BATTERY, BECAUSE IT IS NOW LEAKING AND BECAUSE OF THAT, IT HAS VOIDED THE WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I DISAGREED WITH THEIR STATEMENT AND INDICATED THAT WE DID NOT FILL THE BATTERY WITH WATER. MY PARENTS ARE THE ONLY ONES DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THEY WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED TO KNOW WHAT TYPE OF RESOLUTION WE WANTED OUT OF THIS, I STATED TO JUST REPAINT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD, NEW BATTERY, AND OTHER DAMAGES ASSOCIATED TO THE BATTERY LEAK. THEY WANTED ME TO GET AN ESTIMATE FROM A LOCAL BODY SHOP. AFTER SUBMITTING THE ESTIMATE, THEY REVIEWED IT AGAIN AND DENIED THE CLAIM. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN, ELK GROVE TOYOTA, IN ELK GROVE CA, JULY 12 2010. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND THE BATTERY TO HAVE BEEN FAULTY AND WAS LEAKING, WHICH THE FAN BLEW THE ACID THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUSING THE PATTERN OF CORROSION AS REPORTED. THEY AGREED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE CAR WAS AT THE SHOP, THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY FOUND THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AS OF 6/24/2010 AND WILL NOT FIX THE VEHICLE. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD REPORTED THE ISSUE TO MID-CITY TOYOTA IN MARCH 2010 DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THEY WANTED ME TO OPEN A CASE WITH TOYOTA, AND THEY'LL REVIEW IT AFTER. I OPENED UP CASE # 1007162060 WITH TOYOTA. ELK GROVE TOYOTA CAME BACK AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND DENIED FIXING THE CAR OUT OF GOOD WILL STATING THAT THERE WAS LACK OF MAINTENANCE RECORDS. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SUV AND THE REAR DOORS DO NOT STAY OPEN UNLESS THEY ARE OPENED VERY WIDE (FULLY). THIS HAS CAUSED THE DOOR TO CLOSE ON ME NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN CLIMBING INTO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK TO SECURE MY CHILDREN IN THEIR SEATS. ALSO, IT IS A DANGER FOR THEM AS YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL CAUSE IT TO CLOSE. THE DOOR WILL STAY OPEN IF FULLY OPENED, BUT THE SPACE REQUIRED TO DO SO IS NOT AVAILABLE IN MOST CONSUMER'S GARAGES. THE MIDDLE DOOR CHECK WAS ORIGINALLY FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE BY THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY WERE REPLACED ON BOTH REAR DOORS. NOW THE PROBLEM APPEARS WORSE. THE DOOR USED TO STAY OPEN IN THE MIDDLE DOOR-CHECK POSITION *MOST* OF THE TIME, BUT NOW MOST OF THE TIME IT CLOSES WHILE SECURING THE CHILDREN. THE TOYOTA DEALER CONTACTED TOYOTA, BUT THEY SAID IT IS WORKING AS DESIGNED, THOUGH THEY HAVE HAD MANY CALLS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I DON'T REALLY EXPECT ANYTHING TO BE DONE, I JUST WANTED TO RAISE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED-AT FOR FUTURE MODELS. *TR
