Stability light comes on, decelerates independently, vehicle shakes and steering is somewhat compromised. This has happened rounding curves between 40-50 MPH. Has happened twice on straight road, 8/24 and 8/25/2021, traveling at 70MPH, vehicle decelerated 2-5 miles independently. I put signal on and did smooth lane change to the right to get out of fast lane, and stability light came on, vehicle shook and steering was somewhat compromised. Neither local mechanic or dealership can retrieve any codes with diagnostic equipment. Dealership told me today the light has to stay on for them to retrieve code. This has happened irregularly over the last 6-8 months but always on curves. It has occurred 4 times in 6 days last week, twice on curves, 8/23 & 8/28/2021, and the 2 lane changes above. I am concerned with the increased frequency. I was pulling in my driveway when this incident happened. When exiting my vehicle and opening the driver side door this is what occurred. The driver side sliding door cable snapped and could have potentially hit the driver or me and which could have injured a body part especially the eye or hand. It also made a loud popping noise. There was no warning lights that this would happen and now the door will not open which causes a safety hazard because in case of an emergency this door may need to be opened to escape for safety reasons. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE POWER SLIDING DOOR INDEPENDENTLY WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER SLIDING DOOR WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED, A BEEPING NOISE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS COMPLETED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT DISCLOSURED OF THE RESULT OF THE DIAGNOSTIC BUT WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS NEEDED TO BE ORDERED FOR THE REPAIR OF THE POWER SLIDING DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN IT GETS COLD THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.

REAR PASSENGER POWER SLIDING DOOR. PROBLEM STARTED WITH ONLY BEING ABLE TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. NOW WE CANNOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE WITH POWER OR MANUAL MODE. WE HAVE CHILDREN AND FEEL THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS BUT OURS IS OUT OF THIS RANGE. AIRBAG LIGHT FOR DRIVER SIDE BLINKS OFF AND ON DURING DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35-45 MPH. THIS OCCURRED AT 209,560 +/- MILES. THIS IS OCCURING WITH OTHER ISSUES IN THE ELECTRICAL MODULES INCLUDING ABS CONTROL MALFUNCTION, POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE YAW/DECELERATION SENSOR AND IT LOSES COMMUNICATION WITH STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE. THIS SEEMS TO NOT ONLY BE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE BUT OTHERS AS WELL FROM READING MANY FORUMS ON TOYOTA SIENNA VANS INCLUDING ONES JUST A FEW YEARS OLD.

DASHBOARD WAS REPLACED IN A RECALL AND AFTER THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED THE AIRBAG INFLATED LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A SENSOR AND WAS NOT RELATED TO THE WORK THEY HAD PERFORMED, YET SAID IT NEEDED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THAT AND FOR ANY OTHER WORK DONE AS A RESULT OF IT. HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY KNOW IT'S UNRELATED TO THE WORK THEY PERFORMED IF THEY HAD NOT DONE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND IT HAD NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WORKED ON IT?. I FEEL STRONGLY THAT THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO AVOID HAVING TO DO ANY EXTRA WORK IT'S NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR PAID FOR. I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH HOW TO HANDLE THE FAILURE OF BOTH POWER DOORS ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. THE DOORS FAIL TO OPEN AND DO NOT CLOSE WITH POWER WITHOUT PUSHING THEM CLOSED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN YOU PUSH THE DOOR PAST THE CATCH POINT IT WILL NOT RETURN IF YOUR HAND IS IN THE WAY. WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED IT WOULD GO BACK IF YOUR HAND WAS IN THE DOOR. NOW IF IT GOES BEYOND THAT CATCH POINT IT LUNGES AND WILL CATCH YOUR HAND AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THE DOORS HAVE BAD HINGES AND CABLES WHICH TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADMIT ARE FAULTY. THEY OFFER AND EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR YOU KNOWING THAT THE 120,000 MILE LIMIT PUTS MOST OUT OF COVERAGE. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER GAME TO PUT OFF THE SAFETY OF THE CONSUMER. I HAVE A 17 YEAR OLD DOWNS CHILD. SHE GETS OUT OF THE VAN EVERY DAY AND HAS TO PUSH THE DOOR SHUT. SHE HAS TO USE TWO HANDS AND IT IS NOT SAFE. IF SHE SLIPS HER HAND WILL BE IN THE WAY OF THE DOOR AND IT WILL NOT REOPEN. I HAVE TRIED TO TALK TO TOYOTA AND THEY JUST SAY WE ARE OUT OF THEIR COVERAGE TIME LIMITS. I REPORTED THE DOOR WAY BACK IN EARLY 2012. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE SCOPE OF THEIR LIABILITY. AT THAT TIME THEY SAID IT WOULD COST TWO TO THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE FAULTY EQUIPMENT. I ASK THE OBVIOUS? WHEN DOES THIS STOP? DO A SEARCH ON GOOGLE FOR SLIDING DOOR PROBLEMS FOR SIENNA VANS AND YOU WILL BE OVERWHELMED AT THE BLOGS AND SIGHTS DEDICATED TO THIS ONE ISSUE. THIS IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. THE OTHER ISSUE IS WHEN THE CABLE FOR THE DOOR BREAKS YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF THE VAN. WHEN YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF THE VAN THERE IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE PARTS CAUSING THIS ISSUE AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. WHILE DRIVING ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY, I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING RUBBER, THEN NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. FOUND THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT DRIVING THE ALTERNATOR AND COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN SHREDDED AND WAS HANGING TO THE GROUND. UPON A CLOSER LOOK, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD FAILED (IT HAD COME APART). IT APPEARED THAT THE OUTER RING HAD SEPARATED FROM THE RUBBER INNER RING OF THE PULLEY AND THE OUTER RING HAD BECOME MISALIGNED. THE MISALIGNMENT APPEARED TO HAVE CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT FAILURE. IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIMING BELT COVER, THE TIMING BELT AND THE POWER STEERING BELT. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE OF THE FAILED SERPENTINE BELT. FORTUNATELY, I MAINTAINED POWER STEERING BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING BELT HAD NOT COMPLETELY FAILED WHEN I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE IDENTICAL TO THAT COVERED BY SAFETY RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V539000. HOWEVER, TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE TO ME DOES NOT MAKE SENSE SINCE THIS IS THE SAME MODEL, SAME MODEL YEAR, SAME ENGINE MODEL, SAME PARTS MANUFACTURE (PULLEY CONTAINS THE MARK NOTED IN THE RECALL), SAME MANUFACTURE DATE (FEB. 2005), ETC OF THE VEHICLES COVERED BY THE RECALL. AGAIN, ON JUNE 17TH, ALONG HWY 50 APPROX. 45-50MPH JUST TAKING THE EXIT OFF OF THE FREEWAY, STEERING INTO THE RIGHT HAND TURN LANE, THE CAR VSC LIGHT, BEEPING AND STEERING "CORRECTION". THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!! I AM SURPRISED THAT IT HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET!. I NEED THE CAR TO TURN FOR A REASON!! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. THE DEALERS DO NOT ANALYZE THE FREEZE FRAME DATA OR INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM BEYOND READING THE CODE FROM OBD II SCANNER. I HAD ASKED THEM FOR THE ELECTRICAL VALUES FOR THE THROTTLE VALVE MOTOR AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED THAT INFORMATION AND WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY BY SPENDING $1200.00. THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 50,000 MILES AND I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY FROM SAME YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE WITH 20,000 MILES. NOW AFTER 10,000 MILES SAME PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN AND THE DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I FEEL THAT THE THROTTLE BODY OR THE GAS PEDAL IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE CAUSING THE DTC CODE AND MERELY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY SECOND TIME WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE NEWER THROTTLE BODIES ARE WITHOUT THE PROBLEM ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODIES HAD. IT ACCELERATED UNINTENTIONALLY SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS USING CRUISE CONTROL WITH ONLY SINGLE PUSH OF THE ACCELERATION HANDLE. I ONCE LET THE CAR WENT UP TO 90 MPH BEFORE I BRAKED IT OFF FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL MODE. THE ACCELERATION WAS VERY POWERFUL WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED. ALL HAPPENED IN SEVERAL SECONDS. YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REVERING LOUDLY TOWARDS FULL SPEED. I HAD NO PROBLEM TO BRAKE IT OFF EVERY TIME THOUGH. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE A NOISE WHEN SHE TURNED THE IGNITION ON, OFF AND WHEN SHE OPENED AND CLOSED THE ELECTRONIC WINDOWS. SHE ALSO NOTICED A NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MUCH RESISTANCE. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED THE FAILURES SINCE JANUARY 2008. THE DEALER TOLD HER THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $2,000. SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND HUNDREDS OF POSTS FROM PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I HAVE A 2005 SIENNA THAT I PURCHASED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS IT HAS HAD THE PROBLEM OF NOT CLOSING. AT FIRST IT WOULD ONLY CLOSE EVERY NOW AND THEN, AND NOW IT WON'T OPEN OR CLOSE AT ALL. WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD, NEITHER OF THE SLIDING DOOR WILL OPEN UNLESS YOU CLIMB IN THE FRONT AND KICK IT OPEN. I'VE TAKEN IT INTO THE SANDY, UTAH DEALERSHIP ABOUT 5 DIFFERENT TIMES TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. I'M ABOUT TO TAKE IT IN AGAIN BECAUSE NOW IT WON'T WORK AT ALL, SO I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR IF OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. 1) BATTERY DRAINS DEAD ONLY LESS THAN 30 MINUTES OF POWER ON (EITHER SIDE DOOR LEFT OPEN, HEADLIGHT NOT TURNED OFF COMPLETELY, INTERIOR LIGHT ON, ETC.) WHICH NEVER HAPPENED WITH PREVIOUS TOYOTAS I OWNED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN IN THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A BUTTON IN THE VEHICLE THAT AUTOMATICALLY OPENS THE SLIDING DOORS, BUT IT IS NO LONGER WORKING. THE WARRANTY ALREADY EXPIRED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE MOTOR AND CLUTCH ASSEMBLIES FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING OUR TOYOTA SIENNA 05, THE VAN WOULDN'T START. WE HAD A DVD PLAYER INSTALLED WHICH THE DEALERSHIP THOUGHT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THEY FOUND A PINCHED WIRE AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR WAS DEAD AGAIN. THEY SAID WE LEFT OUR DOME LIGHTS ON WHICH CAUSED THE DEAD BATTERY, EVEN THOUGH THIS CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF OF THE DOME LIGHTS SYSTEM. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER LISTENING TO THE RADIO FOR 15 MINUTES WITH THE IGNITION OFF. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER LEAVING THE SIDE DOORS OPEN FOR 30 MINUTES. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER LEAVING THE TRUNK OPEN IN THE TIME IT TOOK ME TO UNLOAD A CAR FULL OF GROCERIES. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THEY GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY. THEN I HAD TO RELY ON NEIGHBORS TO JUMP MY CAR WHEN IT WOULDN'T START. I PURCHASED A NEW VAN FROM TOYOTA BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY HAD A REPUTATION FOR BEING A RELIABLE COMPANY. I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT SIENNA'S VSC SYSTEM. IT OVERREACTS SUDDENLY AND AT TOO MUCH A RATE, IN AN ANTICIPATED LITTLE SKIDDING THAT HAD BEEN EASILY CORRECTED MANUALLY IN MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER CARS. I HAVE A 2005 SIENNA LE AWD. IT COMES WITH VSC, ABS, TRAC. I WAS CORNERING A 30 MPH LEFT TURN WITH THE VAN GOING 35 MPH ON HIGHWAY 431 IN NEVADA. IT WAS DOWN HILL, SO I WAS USING LOW GEAR (3) TO APPLY ENGINE BRAKING. IT WAS NOT SNOWING. THE ROAD WAS DRY WITHOUT SNOW. ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THERE WERE SOME GRAVELS/SALTS. THE VAN VEERED TO THE RIGHT A BIT AS I WAS MAKING A WIDE TURN. IT WENT OFF THE LANE ABOUT 1 OR 2 FEET ONTO THE SHOULDER, BUT STILL ON PAVEMENT. ON THE SHOULDER, THE FRONT WHEELS SKIDDED BY A VERY LITTLE AMOUNT, WHICH IS ANTICIPATED AND NORMAL IN MY DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND HAD ALWAYS BEEN HANDLED WITH EASE. HOWEVER, THE VSC KICKED IN SUDDENLY, CAUSING THE VAN TO TURN TO THE LEFT TIGHTLY AND AT A VERY FAST RATE, INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE ON THE UNDIVIDED 2-LANE HIGHWAY. IT ALL HAPPENED IN A BLINK OF EYES. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSITE LANE, AND I WAS ALERT ENOUGH TO QUICKLY STEER THE VAN BACK TO MY LANE, AVOIDING HITTING THE MOUNTAIN ON THE LEFT. THE VSC LIGHT DID COME ON IN FEW OTHER OCCASIONS, BUT THE VAN WAS NEVER OUT OF MY CONTROL IN THOSE CASES. FROM MY PAST DRIVING EXPERIENCE OF 20 YEARS (MANY OF WHICH WERE WITH SNOW), I REALLY FEEL THIS IS AN OVERCORRECTION BY THE VSC BY A HUGE AMOUNT. I AM STARTING TO FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE THAT SUCH VSC REACTION CAN'T BE REDUCED (E.G., TO A SLOWER AND LESSER RATE) OR COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. IT'S WINTER TIME AGAIN AND I AM GOING TO SKI WITH MY FAMILY. IT REMINDS ME THAT I HAVE NOT FILED THIS COMPLAINT YET AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO BE DRIVING NERVOUSLY, WHO KNOWS WHEN VSC IS TO KICK IN AGAIN, BY HOW MUCH AMOUNT, OR AT WHAT RATE. *NM
