I was driving on a dry road, going 70mph when my car began flashing the abs indicator and it began breaking and controlling my steering taking me into another lane. The car slowed my vehicle suddenly down to 60 mph and then went off like it never happened. I then had control. There was no reason for the car to do this. There was nothing in the road and luckily no one was to close to me or there would have been an accident. I almost over corrected due to the pulling of the steering and the breaking of the vehicle.

shifter broke at 55 mph wouldn't stay in 5 gear, was easily moved to R, N, and flopped around! won't stay in 4 now when used either, or PARK unless held when turning car off. NO warning, shifted down for a hill, speed limit change, and corner in neighborhood as usual, no lights on in car. just happened but upon research, have found many others with this problem online, same veh and same kind of miles.Toyota knows but won't recall their broken plastic piece and no notification to consumer

CONTINUOUS ISSUES WITH TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ALMOST DAILY. ANY TIME VEHICLE VEERS TOWARDS THE RIGHT ANTI-SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT, ALARM SOUNDS AND ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY, ON DRY ROADS, GOING DOWNHILL OR ON A CURVE, EVEN WHILE SWITCHING LANES NOW. THIS HAPPENS ABOVE 20 MPH. DRIVING BECOMES STRESSFUL AND WORRY-SOME WHEN ALARM BEGINS TO SOUND AND DASH LIGHT COME ON. FEAR OF LOSING CONTROL BECOMES GREAT, FEAR FOR YOUR PASSENGERS SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS SAFETY BECOMES REAL. DURING THE PAST 3 MONTHS THERE HAVE BEEN 5 SEPARATE INCIDENTS IN WHICH THE VEHICLE HAS LOST ACCELERATION, PULLS STEERING IN ONE DIRECTION AND SUDDEN BREAK LOCK OCCURS. 2 OF WHICH TOOK PLACE ON THE FREEWAY ON RAMP AT A SPEED OF 35MPH, 1 DRIVING DOWNHILL, SLIGHTLY TOWARDS THE RIGHT, AT A SPEED IF 20MPH AND THE LAST 2 WHILE SWITCHING LANES, 35 MPH. I INSISTED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AND THEY DID A ZERO CALIBRATION, CHANGED NEW TIRES AND REALIGNMENT BUT PROBLEM PERSIST. I BROUGHT IT BACK WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT BUT THEY CLAIMED THE THEY NEVER HAD ANY OTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I REACHED ONLINE YET THERE WERE MANY OTHERS. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME ON THIS. AGAIN, ON JUNE 17TH, ALONG HWY 50 APPROX. 45-50MPH JUST TAKING THE EXIT OFF OF THE FREEWAY, STEERING INTO THE RIGHT HAND TURN LANE, THE CAR VSC LIGHT, BEEPING AND STEERING "CORRECTION". THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!! I AM SURPRISED THAT IT HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET!. I NEED THE CAR TO TURN FOR A REASON!! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. THE ACCELERATOR STUCK ON THIS VAN AS I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A RURAL, TWO LANE ROAD. AS SOON AS I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE GAS PEDAL STAYED DOWN EVEN AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT AND THE VAN CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE EVEN FASTER EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOW HITTING THE BRAKES HARD! WITH CURVES IN THE ROAD APPROACHING IN ABOUT A MILE, I HAD TO DO SOMETHING FAST! I WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET NOW AND THE VAN CONTINUED TO SPEED UP. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL, ALL THE WHILE CONTINUING TO STAND ON THE BRAKES. THE ENGINE REVVED EVEN FASTER BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VAN TURNED OFF THE ROAD INTO A FARM FIELD ACCESS DRIVE. THE VAN STILL WASN'T STOPPING BUT AT LEAST I WAS OFF THE ROAD AND NOT GOING TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS THE VAN CONTINUED TO MOVE, I THOUGHT ABOUT BAILING OUT BUT THANKFULLY, I DIDN'T. THE VAN WAS STILL GOING FAST ENOUGH IT COULD'VE RUN OVER ME AND I HAD NO IDEA WHERE IT WOULD END UP IF I GOT OUT! BY THE GRACE OF GOD, THE VAN FINALLY STOPPED AFTER I STARTED TURNING THE WHEEL HARD TO THE LEFT. I SHIFTED IT INTO PARK AND SHUT IT OFF WHILE I SAT THERE SHAKING AND TRYING TO DECIDE WHO TO CALL FIRST. THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE TURNED OUT EXTREMELY BAD HAD THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEEN DIFFERENT. THANK GOD THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME WHILE THIS WAS GOING ON, I WASN'T IN A CONGESTED AREA OF HOUSES OR OTHER VEHICLES OR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. DROVE VEHICLE HOME (150 MILES), THE 3 LIGHTS REMAINED ON AS WELL AS LOSS OF CRUISE CONTROL AND AN INTERMITTENT COMPASS DISPLAY. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE SKID CONTROL UNIT ECU NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FOUND OUT THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS AND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE 2005 SIENNA VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (ALSO CALLED ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) SYSTEM THAT HAS CAUSED INJURIES. EVEN MORE REMARKABLE, MY 2005 SIENNA HAS ONLY 62K MILES AND IN THAT TIME THERE HAS BEEN 2 OTHER INCIDENCES WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. THE TOYOTA SIENNA DEATH TRAP CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS JAMMED ON THE BRAKE (I DIDN'T REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE FOR ANOTHER 2 1/2 HRS UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK PULLED IN FRONT OF US. BY THE WAY, WHEN YOUR VEHICLE IS SUDDENLY TRAVELING MUCH, MUCH FASTER THAN ANYONE ELSE'S VEHICLE ON THE ROAD, IT'S ALL YOU CAN DO TO NOT HIT SOMEONE. BELIEVE ME, I WAS SUDDENLY SWERVING IN AND OUT OF THE LANES AND CUTTING EVERYONE OFF. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED OUR TOYOTA DEATH TRAP WAS PULLING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, CERTAINLY NOT IDEAL IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION INCIDENT IN MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. I WAS MAKING A SLOW U-TURN IN FRONT OF MY HOME INTO A PARKING SPACE BY THE CURB ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE STREET. THE WIDTH OF THE STREET IS SUCH THAT EVEN WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED FULLY TO THE LEFT, THE PASSENGER TIRE RISES UP A DRIVEWAY INCLINE JUST BEFORE THE CAR IS 180 DEGREES AROUND. AS I USUALLY DO FOR THIS TURN, I NEED TO TURN SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 180 DEGREES, HAVE THE PASSENGER TIRE COME OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THEN TURN BACK TO BE PARALLEL TO THE CURB. I HAD SLIGHTLY MISJUDGED THE TURN THIS TIME, AND REALIZED THAT MY PASSENGER TIRE WAS GOING TO HAVE TO DROP AN INCH OR TWO OFF THE RISING CURB AT THE EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY. BECAUSE OF THIS I AM CERTAIN I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP MY SPEED DOWN. ABOUT 5 FEET BEFORE THE WHEEL WAS GOING TO COME OFF THE CURB, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD, JUMPED THE CURB VIOLENTLY AND FAST, AND CONTINUED MY TURN CARRYING ME PARTLY BACK INTO THE STREET. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM ON MY VAN IS MALFUNCTIONING AND IT PUTS THE VEHICLE IN "FAIL SAFE" MODE. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE DO NOT WANT TO INVESTIGATE THIS RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE DTC P0121. THE DEALERS DO NOT ANALYZE THE FREEZE FRAME DATA OR INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM BEYOND READING THE CODE FROM OBD II SCANNER. I HAD ASKED THEM FOR THE ELECTRICAL VALUES FOR THE THROTTLE VALVE MOTOR AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED THAT INFORMATION AND WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY BY SPENDING $1200.00. THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 50,000 MILES AND I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY FROM SAME YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE WITH 20,000 MILES. NOW AFTER 10,000 MILES SAME PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN AND THE DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA WANT ME TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I FEEL THAT THE THROTTLE BODY OR THE GAS PEDAL IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE CAUSING THE DTC CODE AND MERELY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY SECOND TIME WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE NEWER THROTTLE BODIES ARE WITHOUT THE PROBLEM ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODIES HAD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND MOVED TO ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, AFTER THE ENGINE SHUT OFF IT RESET AND BEGAN DRIVING NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DUPLICATE FAILURE OCCURRED IN 2009 AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK. THE CONTACT HAD TO REACH DOWN AND PULL THE PEDAL FROM THE STUCK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LEAST THREE TO FOUR TIMES. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

2009: ONE INCIDENT SEVERAL MONTHS TO A YEAR AGO IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THAT MY CAR ACCELERATED. IT FELT LIKE MY CAR HAD INCREASED BY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT IN MPH. I THOUGHT I PRESSED THE GAS. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATED A BIT BUT THE CAR APPEARED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I BELIEVE I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AT SOME POINT BUT IT DID NOT CHANGE THE ACCELERATION. I CAN'T SAY IF I PUT ON BRAKES FIRST TO SLOW MYSELF DOWN OR ACCELERATED. HOWEVER, I DO KNOW NEITHER ONE AFFECTED THE CAR FROM THE ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATION STOPPED ON ITS OWN. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER INCIDENT BUT I AM ACUTELY CAUTIOUS WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE THAT INCIDENT DID SEEM UNUSUAL AND WORRISOME AT THE TIME. I DID NOT REPORT B/C I PLACED IT AS ISOLATED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA . WHILE APPROACHING A COMPLETE STOP THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. CONSEQUENTLY HE CRASHED INTO SOME BUSHES, AND THEN INTO A BOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TOYOTA DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN REPAIRED THE FRONT BUMPER AND ALL OTHER BODY DAMAGES. JULY 2008 I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA I WAS ON THE RAMP TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY DOING 35MPH WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY JUMPED TO 75MPH WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I STAYED CALM BECAUSE MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR WITH AND I DIDN'T WANT TO SCARE THEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-6 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A STOP SIGN AND STRUCK THE LEFT REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. HER VEHICLE FISH-TAILED AND TURNED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STRUCK A CURB, A BOULDER, AND THEN A PALM TREE BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE DURING THE INCIDENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GMC DEALER AND THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE GMC DEALER AND WILL BE APPRAISED. THEY WERE TOLD THIS MODEL IS NOT DESIGNED FOR CRUISE CONTROL TO HOLD GOING DOWNHILL! I CONTACTED TOYOTA VIA E-MAIL AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS AND NEVER HAVE HAD CRUISE CONTROL NOT HOLD ON A DOWNHILL ROAD. IT WILL BE SET AT 60 AND CONTINUE GOING AS HIGH AS 80 WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND MADE A RIGHT TURN TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE. I WAS HALFWAY INTO THE SPACE, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN I FELT THE VAN JERK-IT THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, WENT OVER THE RAISED CURB IN FRONT,ONTO THE EXIT LANE OF THE SHOPPING CENTER,TURNED AROUND BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT(THE WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT STILL),HIT THE BUILDING BREAKING A COUPLE OF WINDOWS, AND THEN CAME TO A STOP AFTER HITTING A BARRICADED DUMPSTER ALONG THE WAY. ALL THE WHILE I WAS HITTING THE BRAKES, BUT THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN THE PROCESS,THE FRONT OF THE VAN WAS BADLY DAMAGED. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS IN THE LOT AND I DIDN'T HIT ANY OTHER VEHICLE AND MY SON AND I WALKED AWAY WITH MINOR INJURIES. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA. THEY INSPECTED THE VAN LAST WEEK AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR THEIR REPORT. THE VAN HASN'T BEEN FIXED YET-I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM TOYOTA AS TO THE NEXT COURSE OF ACTION. ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, I WAS PULLING OUT OF ANOTHER PARKING SPACE IN REVERSE,WHEN THE VAN JUST STOPPED AND DIDN'T MOVE. DT: THE CONSUMER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT HIS VEHICLE HAS A LASER THAT SENDS A MESSAGE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL TO ADJUST TO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIS. WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE MOVES AWAY THE CRUISE CONTROL IS SUPPOSED TO GRADUALLY BRING THE VEHICLE BACK UP TO THE ORIGINAL PROGRAMMED SPEED. THE CONSUMER 'S VEHICLE, HOWEVER WOULD JERK QUICKLY BACK UP TO SPEED EVERYTIME THIS HAPPENED. THE MOVEMENT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO JERK THE PASSENGERS BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT WOULD CALL TOYOTA TO CHECK IF THERE WAS A RECALL. OWNER OF 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA LE MINIVAN PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2004. 1. NOTICED THAT THIS PROBLEM STARTED TO OCCUR OVER THE LAST TWO MONTHS AND THE OCCURRENCE HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY. 2. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE THROTTLE WILL OCCASIONALLY FAIL TO RESPOND TO THE INITIAL PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE PEDAL. CONTINUING TO DEPRESS, OR APPLYING ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE THROTTLE ON THE ENGINE TO ENGAGE AND THIS RESULTS IN AN UNANTICIPATED SURGE IN ENGINE OUTPUT AND ACCELERATION. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS UNANTICIPATED ENGINE SURGE AND ACCELERATION COULD LEAD TO AND/OR CAUSE A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. 3. BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM/ISSUE TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT LOMBARD TOYOTA (LOMBARD, ILLINOIS). SPOKE WITH TWO DIFFERENT SERVICE WRITERS AT LOMBARD TOYOTA AND THEY BOTH MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY BOTH TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP. LOMBARD TOYOTA MENTIONED THAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM/ISSUE AT THIS TIME.

I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN A PARKING LOT. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT EVEN TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE VAN STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT, WENT OVER THE CURB OF THE PARKING LOT, DOWN AN EMBANKMENT INTO A RAVINE AND HEADED TOWARDS A TREE. THE PASSENGER THAT WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT THEN REACHED OVER AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, WHICH BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP. THE WHOLE TIME THE CAR WAS MOVING I WAS TRYING TO STOP THE CAR BY PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT THEY DID NOT WORK. THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING THE ENTIRE TIME UNTIL THE PASSENGER STOPPED IT BY SHIFTING INTO PARK. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER BUMPER AND SIDE OF THE CAR, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE EXPLODED. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE BRAKES DID FUNCTION.
