MY VEHICLE HAS 138,000 MILES AND WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT FIXING THE SLIDING DOOR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS OVER IN 2016; HOWEVER, I KNOW OF A PERSON THAT WAS ABLE TO HAVE HIS VEHICLE FIXED BY TOYOTA. IN FACT, TOYOTA REPLACE BOTH THE DOOR SLIDING COMPONENTS / LATCHES. FOR MY VEHICLE I TRIED GETTING TOYOTA TO FIX THIS LAST YEAR AND TRIED AGAIN TODAY BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THESE REPAIRS. I WANT IT DOCUMENTED THAT THIS VIN HAS NOT BEEN FIXED REGARDING THE SLIDING DOOR AND SHOULD A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ARISE IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THESE DOORS, THIS WILL SERVER AS DOCUMENTATION. THE ISSUE BEGAN ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THIS YEAR I HAD TO TAKE IT ON MYSELF TO TRY AND FIX THE ISSUE DUE TO TOYOTA NOT WILLING TO COVER THE COSTS. THE CABLE FOR THE SLIDING DOOR HAD FRAYED AND WHEN THE DOOR WAS MANUALLY OPENED, IT WOULD ONLY OPEN SOME BUT NOT FULLY. THE ROLLER LATCH FOR THIS DOOR ALSO APPEARS TO BE BENT AND NOW THE DOOR IS CLOSE TO HITTING THE SIDE PANEL WHEN OPENED; I HAD TO REMOVE THE CABLE COMPONENTS MYSELF TO ALLOW THE DOOR TO OPEN. I BELIEVE THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS FOR HAVING BOTH DOORS MECHANISMS REPLACED IS $4,000 AND I CANNOT AFFORD THAT COSTS. IN 2016 I DO NOT RECOLLECT BEING INFORMED BY TOYOTA REGARDING THE SLIDING DOOR ISSUES AND NOW MY VEHICLE CANNOT BE REPAIRED FOR THAT SERVICE PROGRAM HAS EXPIRED.

INSIDE DASHBOARD IS VERY STICKY AND ALWAYS SHOWS A GLARE ONTO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING (SAFETY ISSUE); THE DASHBOARD DURING THE SUMMER TIME IS VERY MALLEABLE, IF YOU GENTLY PRESS ON IT, IT MOVES AS IF IT WAS MELTING SLOWLY. THIS HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR A FEW YEARS, WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA THEY SAID THERE WAS A REPLCEMENT PROGRAM FOR THIS IN WHICH OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED IN 2015 AND EXPIRED ON 2018, I EXPLAINED WE NEVER RECEIVED THIS NOTICE AS WE ARE AT THE SAME ADDRESS SINCE 2000 AND ARE THE ORIGINAL NEW OWNERS OF THE VAN, THEY DID NOT AGREE TO REPLACE AS THE PROGRAM HAD EXPIRED. I EXPLAINED THE SAFETY RISK NOT TO MENTION ITS A KNOW ISSUE, THEY SAID YOU DIDN'T RESPOND IN TIME SO THEY WILL NOT PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE SUPERVISOR WAS RUDE AND SAID THE SAME THING.

BOTH MY POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE FAILED WITHIN THE PAST WEEK, AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THEM. THEY DO NOT OPEN AT ALL BECAUSE THE CABLES ARE SNAGGED, AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, PASSENGERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE SAFELY AND QUICKLY THROUGH THE LIFTGATE OR FRONT DOORS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM AND NOT LEAVE SAFETY TO CHANCE.

WHEN I OPEN THE LIFT GATE FROM THE CONSOLE OR KEY FOB AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOUT 32 DEGREES OR LESS THE LIFT GATE GOES UP THEN COMES RIGHT BACK DOWN. IF I REPEAT THE OPENING PROCESS SEVERAL TIMES IT FINALLY STAYS UP. I HAVE BEEN HIT SEVERAL TIME BY THE LIFT GATE WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS OPEN, IT TAKES A LOT OF STRENGTH TO STOP IT ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. WHAT WOULD IT DO TO A CHILD? THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND IN PARK OR IF THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING AT ALL. IN MY GARAGE, PARKING LOTS, ETC, WHEREVER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. THIS STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT 2011 AND CONTINUES GETTING WORSE EACH YEAR.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CAPISTRANO TOYOTA (33395 CAMINO CAPISTRANO, SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA 92675, (949) 276-6886) TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V858000 (STRUCTURE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SLIDING DOOR MALFUNCTIONED AND COULD BE OPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECENT FAILURES WERE NOT RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL RECALL, BUT THE CONTACT DISAGREED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

MY SIENNA SIDE DOOR CANNOT OPEN. MY SON WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE THE VEHICLE IF A PROBLEM IN AN ACCIDENT. DEALER SAID THERE IS NO RECALL BUT THE DOOR CANNOT EVEN BE OPENED MANUALLY. THIS WOULD BE A $1500-2000 REPAIR WHICH AS A SINGLE MOM IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME. I DO NOT FEEL SOMETHING AS SIGNIFICANT AS ABILITY TO ESCAPE A VEHICLE SHOULD FALL ON THE CONSUMER.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE FIVE LOVELY SMALL CHILDREN. WE OWN A 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE. SOME YEARS AGO, THE "POWER" ASPECT OF THE SLIDING DOORS STOPPED WORKING. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE BEEN USING THE VAN BY SLIDING THE DOORS OPEN AND SHUT MANUALLY. RECENTLY, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY CAME OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS WAS TRAUMATIC FOR HER AND FOR MY 5 CHILDREN. ALSO RECENTLY, THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR BECAME COMPLETELY NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, MARK MILLER TOYOTA, HAS BEEN WORKING DILIGENTLY AND EXPERTLY TO TRY TO REPAIR BOTH SLIDING DOORS. THEY APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR, AT SUBSTANTIAL EXPENSE TO ME. HOWEVER, MARK MILLER TOYOTA IS PRESENTLY UNABLE TO REPAIR THE DRIVERS SLIDING DOOR, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN NON-OPERATIONAL FOR WEEKS NOW.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (KOLAR TOYOTA, 4781 MILLER TRUNK HWY, HERMANTOWN, MN 55811, (218-733-0100) WHO REPLACED THE CABLES AND GREASED THE DOOR PARTS, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

NOW THAT THE AUTOMATIC DOOR FUNCTION IS BROKE ON BOTH DOORS THEY BOTH WON'T CLOSE COMPLETELY ANYMORE AND DON'T LATCH COMPLETELY. THEY ARE UNSAFE.

THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CABLE JUST GOT CUT-OFF LAST WEEK WHILE MY KID WAS TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR AND GET IN AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MOVES VERY SLOWLY. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER(S) AND THEY SAID THEY HAD A FIX AT NO COST ONLY FOR VEHICLES WHICH ARE 9 YEARS/120,000 MILES AND IF THE CUSTOMER CAME WITH A PROBLEM (NOT A RECALL) AND I DO NOT QUALIFY AS IT HAS BEEN 10 YEARS (HOW DID TOYOTA COME-UP WITH THIS NUMBER?). I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED A SIMILAR ISSUE AND LOOKS LIKE TOYOTA DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM EITHER. FROM THE DEALER I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE OR DID NOT DO ENOUGH TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WE HAVE CALLED MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT IS STILL NOT READY TO THIS DAY (FORT BEND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN SUGAR LAND, TX). THE CAR SMELLS, WE ARE UNABLE TO USE THIS VEHICLE AS THE SMELL OF MELTED RUBBER INSIDE THE VEHICLE CAUSING BREATHING ISSUES FOR ALL OF US ESPECIALLY OUR CHILD WHO HAS BREATHING ISSUES. VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF PARKED IN PARKING LOT. OPENED SIDE DOOR WITH AUTOMATIC KEY FOB AND THE DOOR OPENED HALFWAY THEN STARTED MAKING A WEIRD NOISE. IT WOULD NOT CLOSE OR OPEN MANUALLY NO MATTER WHAT I DID. I HAD TO DRIVE MYSELF AND 5 KIDS ACROSS TOWN WITH THE DOOR OPEN, CAR BEEPING BECAUSE DOOR WAS OPEN. MY HUSBAND FINALLY GOT THE DOOR TO CLOSE AFTER I GOT HOME BUT THERE WAS A SEVERED CABLE THAT NOW HANGS UNDER THE REAR WINDOW. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY NOW. SO I CAN'T USE THE DOOR AT ALL. IF YOU EVEN TRY TO TOUCH OR OPEN THE DOOR THEN THE SYSTEM THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN AND BEEPS THE WHOLE TIME YOU ARE DRIVING AND YOU CAN'T LOCK THE DOOR. I'M WORRIED IT WILL OPEN WHILE DRIVING. FROM RESEARCH IT APPEARS TO BE AN ALL TOO COMMON ISSUE WITH TOYOTA VANS AND SHOULD BE A RECALL OR COVERED FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE IN MY OPINION. THE AUTO OPENING DOOR WAS THE ONLY REASON WE PURCHASED A VAN AND NOT A SUV.

THE DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING REAR DOOR WILL NOT LATCH CLOSED. WHILE DRIVING,THE DOOR WILL SLIDE OPEN WHEN ACCELERATING. I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS I PAY FOR REPAIRS. THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE FACTORY WARRANTY SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SLIDING DOORS TO 9 YEARS/ 120K MI. MY VEHICLE IS 11 DAYS PAST THE 9 YEARS BUT UNDER THE 120K MI. I CANNOT GET THE DOOR TO LATCH CLOSED, A TOYOTA SUPERVISOR INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL TO KEEP THE DOOR LATCHED CLOSED BUT MY VEHICLE WASN'T COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED 4/12/2017 WHILE PARKED AT MY KIDS SOCCER PRACTICE. AFTER READING HOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST TOYOTA FOR THEIR SLIDING DOOR PROBLEMS, I'M NOT SURE WHY THIS WOULDN'T BE CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL. DRIVING WITH A DOOR THAT WON'T STAY SHUT IS NOT VERY SAFE.

POWERED PASSENGER DOORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VAN MALFUNCTIONED AND THEN CABLE SYSTEM BROKE AND LOCKED THE DOORS IN THE CLOSED POSITION. THIS HAPPENED ONE AFTER THE OTHER IN ABOUT A THREE-WEEK PERIOD. THE CABLE IS CLEARLY RUSTED AND SHREDDED ON THE ONE SIDE. I CANNOT TELL WHY THE CABLE PULLED OUT AND STOPPED WORKING ON THE OTHER SIDE. AS I TRANSPORT 3 OR MORE CHILDREN AT A TIME, IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THE CAR IN CASE OF EMERGENCY IS THROUGH ONE OF THE FRONT DOORS OR THE BACK TRUNK HATCH. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS NEW AND I AM TOLD THIS IS OUT OF WARRANTY/ISN'T COVERED AND WILL COST AT LEAST $6,000 TO FIX. I CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE LIKE THIS AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT. I AM APPARENTLY NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO'S HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE VAN, YET TOYOTA IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS.

THE SLIDING DOOR CABLES HAVE BROKEN JUST LIKE IN THE 2007 MODELS THAT A RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO FIX THIS ON MY 2008 MODEL BECAUSE THE NHTSA HAS NOT REQUESTED IT AND BECAUSE THEY SUPPOSEDLY HAVE NOT HAD ENOUGH REPORTS OF FAILURES. NOW OUR DOOR DOES NOT COMPLETELY SEAL SHUT AND GOING DONE THE ROAD, THE DOOR ALARM GOES OFF INDICATING A DOOR IS OPEN THAT HAS NEARLY CAUSED MY WIFE TO JUMP OUT OF HER SKIN THINKING THAT OUR AUTISTIC SON IS OPENING THE DOOR WHILE SHE IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN RECALLED IN 2007 BUT NOT IN THE 2008 WHICH IS THE SAME PROBLEM. CABLES ARE DANGLING OUT THE SIDE OF THE VAN WHIPPING IN THE WIND.

OUR LEFT REAR SLIDING DOOR WON'T FUNCTION OR OPEN ANY MORE. THE CABLE BROKE. THEN 2 DAYS LATER THE RIGHT REAR SLIDING DOOR WON'T FUNCTION OR OPEN ANYMORE. SAME PROBLEM. CABLE WAS SEVERED OR SNAPPED. LOOKS LIKE IT WAS RUSTED ON BOTH CABLES, BOTH SIDES, AND SEVERED IN THE SAME POSITION OR LENGTH. SO, BOTH REAR SLIDING DOORS DO NOT FUNCTION. THEY ONLY OPEN TO ABOUT 1 FOOT, AND NO FURTHER. POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE A COMMON PROBLEM OF THE CABLE BREAKING AND THE POWER SLIDING FEATURE STOPS WORKING. THE DOOR CAN STILL BE USED IN MANUAL OPERATION, WHICH IS JUST AN INCONVENIENCE. THE POWER REAR LATCH IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOOR CAN SUDDENLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING, OR OTHER TIMES REMAIN LOCKED SO AS THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS PROBLEM IS COMPOUNDED WHEN BOTH DOORS ARE AFFECTED, AND I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE REPAIRS DONE TO BOTH DOORS TO A POINT WHERE I CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE FREQUENCY OF HOW OFTEN THE DOORS FAIL. TO SUMMARIZE, POWER SLIDING FUNCTION GRANTED IS A LUXURY THOUGH AN EXPENSIVE ONE WHEN TOYOTA DOES NOT WARRANTEE THE REPAIR. THE LATCHING PROBLEM IS MOST CERTAINLY A SAFEY ISSUE AS THE DOORS EITHER DO NOT STAY CLOSED, OR ARE STUCK SHUT FORCING THE REAR PASSENGERS TO CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEAT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. ORIGINALLY 3 CALLS TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED ME THAT IT WAS COVERED BUT I HAD TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AFTER READING THE PAPERWORK ONLINE TO EXPLAIN THAT ALTHOUGH I WAS PART OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CABLE AND LATCH MECHANISMS, THAT THE LATCH MECHANISM IS THE ONLY PART THAT APPLIES TO THE 2008. IT'S SO CONFUSING, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TELL THE 2008 CABLE ISN'T COVERED WOULD HAVE COST ME $110. THE REPAIR IS $1500-2000 ON A CAR ONLY WORK 8K OR SO. BEING THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST IS UPSETTING. AND THE FACT THAT THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT BULLETIN IS SO CONFUSING THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES DON'T UNDERSTAND IT IS ALSO RIDICULOUS. FROM READING ONLINE IT SEEMS OTHERS ARE STILL HAVING THIS ISSUE.

UNFORTUNATELY, OUR CAR IS 2008 AND THE LOCAL DEALER ASKED FOR $2000 TO CHANGE THE CABLE ASSEMBLY. SINCE THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS FOR THE SECOND GENERATION SIENNA, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE SAME PROGRAM. IN 2013 I RECEIVED A VOLUNTARY RECALL NOTICE ON THE NON-POWER SLIDING DOORS WERE NOT LOCKING SHUT AND COULD OPEN DURING OPERATION (WHICH WAS ALSO HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE) SO I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2013 AND ASKED FOR THEM TO FIX THE DOOR SINCE I WAS HAVING BOTH THE RECALL PROBLEM AND THE OTHER PROBLEM. THAT DEALERSHIP STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEY "GREASED" THE MECHANISM. THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND IT WAS INCREASINGLY HAPPENING. IN SEPTEMBER 2014 I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP AND ASKED FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED OR THE MECHANISM REPLACED. I STATED I WAS CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WHO GOES IN AND OUT OF THE DOOR AND I DID NOT WANT THE DOOR TO SLAM INTO HIS HAND OR HEAD AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. I HAD TAKEN VIDEO DURING ONE OF THE TIMES THAT THE DOOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I SHOWED IT TO THE SERVICE REP HOPING IT WOULD HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND IT WENT UNREPAIRED. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED AND IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME THAT IT WILL CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. *TR

I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE AUTOMATIC REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR TO PUT IN A SHOPPING BAG AFTER LEAVING A STORE. THE DOOR OPEN, THEN WHEN I PRESSED TO CLOSE THE DOOR, IT STARTED TO CLOSE BUMPED AND CLANKED AND REOPENED AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. I HAD TO DRIVE THE 16 MILES HOME WITH THE DOOR OPEN. I TOOK IT TO CHATHAM PARKWAY TOYOTA IN SAVANNAH, GA WHO INSPECTED IT AND HAD ME RETRIEVE IT TO TAKE TO A COLLISION CENTER FOR REPAIR. THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH IT AND TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. I TOOK IT TO SAVANNAH TOYOTA WHO REPAIRED IT AT A COST OF OVER $1400 TO REPLACE THE REAR SLIDER ASSEMBLY AND CABLE ASSEMBLY. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL AND SUB OIL PAN GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A RECALL FOR ANY REASON AFTER HEARING OF THAT OTHER'S HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA WITH A WARRANTY OR RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS UP TO 2007. I CALLED TOYOTA ON OCTOBER 17TH TO ASK ABOUT A REIMBURSEMENT SINCE THE PROBLEM IS STILL AN EXISTING ONE WITH MY 2008. OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED OR MY VAN WAS BUILT USING PRIOR YEARS PARTS. THEY TOLD ME MY VAN WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS PREVIOUS YEARS. THEY OFFERED ME $1000 THAT CAN BE USED ON ANOTHER REPAIR WHICH I WILL NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET THEN ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I DO NEED THAT TO HELP PAY THE $2400 REPAIR FOR THE REAL MAIN SEAL REPAIR. THE MALFUNCTIONING REAR SLIDING DOOR IS A SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEATS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO EXTEND THIS WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM HOSELTON AUTO MALL IN ROCHESTER NY IN AUGUST 2013.I WAS TALKED INTO A "TOYOTA PLATINUM CARE" BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY.I WAS TOLD THIS WARRANTY WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY BUT FOR AN EXTENDED TIME.I WAS TOLD IT COVERED EVERYTHING.I SPECIFICALLY ASKED IF IT COVERED ALL PARTS ON THE SLIDING DOORS, THE DVD PLAYER, ETC.I WAS TOLD YES. WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND SEATED IN THE DRIVERS' SEAT, I ACTIVATED THE REAR LIFT-GATE VIA THE CENTER ROOF CONSOLE BUTTON. I EXITED THE DRIVERS' SIDE DOOR AND PROCEEDED TOWARD THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME THE LIFT-GATE WAS STILL RISING, AND TO ALL OBSERVANCE, ACTING NORMALLY. AS I GOT TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THE DOOR WAS ALMOST AT ITS APEX. WHILE STANDING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE, I BENT DOWN TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE REAR CARGO AREA. I HAVE DONE THIS HUNDREDS OF TIMES WITH NO CONCERN BECAUSE THE LIFT-GATE IS DESIGNED TO STAY OPEN ONCE IT REACHES THE TOP OF ITS OPENING CYCLE. AS I STOOD UP TO LEAVE THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE, THE LIFT-GATE CAME DOWN WITHOUT WARNING OR ACTIVATION ON MY PART AND HIT ME ON MY HEAD AND SHOULDER. I HAD NOT PULLED DOWN ON THE MANUALLY RETRACTION HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE LIFT-GATE AND NO ONE HAD ACTIVATED THE BUTTON INSIDE THE VEHICLE AT THE CONSOLE. AFTER TENDING TO MY BLEEDING HEAD AND SORE SHOULDER, I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE TO TRY AND DUPLICATE THE EVENT. I AM ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE EVENT EACH TIME THE LIFT-GATE IS ACTIVATED. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THE LIFT-GATE IS ACTIVATED BY THE REMOTE CONTROL FOB, THE CONSOLE, OR THE MANUAL LEVER ON THE DOOR. ANY TIME THE DOOR IS OPENED, IT REACHES ITS APEX AND AUTOMATICALLY AND IMMEDIATELY RETRACTS DOWN TO THE CLOSED POSITION. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY WARRANTY HAS ENDED, I WOULD NEED TO PAY A "DIAGNOSTIC FEE" OF $118/HOUR. I THOUGHT THIS WAS UNFAIR SO I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER'S CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT SINCE THERE WERE NOT RECALLS ON THIS PART OF THIS VEHICLE, THEY "COULD NOT HELP WITH THE REPAIRS." MY WIFE WAS PARKING OUR 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH OUR 3 YOUNG BOYS IN THE AUTOMOBILE. SHE SLOWLY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP; NEVER USING GAS, JUST COVERING AND TAPPING LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE. ONCE THE AUTOMOBILE CAME TO A STOP MY WIFE PRESSED THE BRAKE A LITTLE MORE IN ORDER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. AT THAT MOMENT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INCREDIBLE FAST, JUMPED OVER AN 8 INCH CONCRETE PARKING LOT DIVIDER AND CRASHED INTO A TREE ABOUT 10 - 15 FEET FROM THE CONCRETE DIVIDER. WE ARE CERTAIN THAT THIS WAS A "SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" INCIDENT CAUSED BY SOME MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PROGRAMMING OR OTHER DEFECT IN THE '08 SIENNA. THIS WAS NOT "DRIVER ERROR"! MY WIFE DID NOT CONFUSE THE GAS PEDAL AND THE BRAKE. THIS WAS NOT CAUSED BY A FLOOR MAT OBSTRUCTING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS WAS CAUSED BY SOME TYPE OF A DESIGN OR COMPONENT DEFECT. HOW CAN W BE SO CERTAIN? MY WIFE AND I HAVE PARKED IN THIS PARKING SPOT (LOCATED IN OUR APARTMENT COMPLEX) HUNDREDS OF TIMES. TO PARK IN THIS PARKING SPOT YOU FIRST HAVE TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AT A STOP SIGN. THIS STOP SIGN IS ABOUT 30 - 40 FEET FROM THE PARKING SPOT, WHICH REQUIRES THAT YOU MAKE A SHARP RIGHT TURN. ONCE YOU PRESS THE ACCELERATOR SLIGHTLY TO MAKE THE LEFT AT THE STOP SIGN, YOU DO NOT USE THE GAS AGAIN. YOU SIMPLY TAP AND COVER YOUR BRAKE UNTIL YOU MAKE THE RIGHT INTO THE PARKING SPOT. OUR VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. IN FACT, UPON "STOPPING" ONE OF OUR 3 BOYS REMOVED HIS SEAT BELT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. MY 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA HAS POWER REAR SLIDING DOORS. WHILE THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR WAS OPENING, THE CABLE FOR THE DOOR MECHANISM SNAPPED AND WOULD NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY. AFTER INVESTIGATING THE SITUATION, THE BROKEN CABLE WAS JAMMED IN THE DOOR MECHANISM, PREVENTING THE DOOR FROM CLOSING. AS A RESULT, THE DOOR NOW DOES NOT FULLY OPEN, AND WILL NOT HOLD IN THE OPEN POSITION. IF PARKED ON A HILL, THE DOOR WILL CLOSE IF NOT HELD OPEN. ANOTHER TRIP TO THE DEALER, AND THEY STATE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WE THEN DEFERRED TO ROUTINE MANUAL OPERATION. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, AND WE HAVE TO OPEN OR CLOSE BY FORCING THEM. USUALLY, THE PASSENGER CANNOT LET THEMSELF OUT, IT MUST BE OPENED BY SOMEONE USING THE HANDLE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. AT 53,2K MILES WE CAN NO LONGER MANAGE WITH THE MALFUNCTION. THERE ARE TWO WEEKS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY OF THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. DEALER STATES WE WILL NEED TO TAKE THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP FOR A RE-ALIGNMENT AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. NOT HAVING THE FUNDS TO DO SO,WE CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. FINALLY WE TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION. SURPRISE-THE LATCHES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE ONE DOOR IS SO BAD THE FRONT & REAR LATCHES MUST BE REPLACED AT MY COST OF $800! WE NEED AT LEAST ONE DOOR TO WORK SO WE'LL DO IT. THE OTHER DOOR NEEDS IT TOO AT ADD'L $, AS WELL AS A VISIT TO THE BODY SHOP FOR 'REALIGNMENT', BUT CAN'T AFFORD IT. MEANWHILE-THE ORIGINAL DEALER SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THIS PART AT 53,2K MILES WHEN IT WAS COVERED, BUT ITHEY SENT US PACKING. NO FAITH THAT THIS $800 REPAIR WILL FIX IT. 3 SETS OF LATCHES IN 3 YEARS? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE ELECTRONIC SLIDING DOORS WERE INOPERABLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED DUE TO DUST IN BETWEEN THE DOOR PANELS. THE DOOR PANELS WERE CLEANED YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING CLEAN DOOR PANELS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE TIME OF OWNERSHIP. (BOUGHT NEW FEB 2008). THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING PWR DOOR STICKS CLOSED. I WOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, AND IT WOULDN'T DO IT, AND THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THEY JUST KEPT TELLING ME IT WAS BECAUSE I LIVE DOWN A DIRT RD. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES. MY CAR NOW HAS 46,000 MILES ON IT, AND THEY ARE FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGING THERE IS AN ISSUE OTHER THAN MY DIRT ROAD. WHEN YOU TURN THE PWR SWITCH FOR THE DOORS OFF ON THE DASH, A STRONG GROWN MAN CANNOT EVEN GET THE DOOR OPEN, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE OPENS EASILY WITH JUST A FINGER. IT MAKES HORRIBLE SOUNDS WHEN IT DOES OPEN. I HAD 5 KIDS IN MY VAN THE OTHER DAY, AND I WAS AN HOUR FROM HOME. MY DOOR OPENED THAT DAY, AND THEN IT WOULD NOT CLOSE BACK. THAT IS THE FOURTH TIME I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH MY DOOR OPEN! I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SENT ME HOME, SAYING IT WAS THE DIRT ROAD, AND THEY CLEANED THE TRACKS. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO CLEAN AND GREASE THE TRACKS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK! I WENT UP THE RD AND TRIED IT, AND IT DID NOT WORK. I AM SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT IN TOMORROW, BUT HAVE READ THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. JUST GOOGLE, "SIENNA POWER SLIDING DOOR PROBLEMS". YOU WILL BE ASTONISHED LIKE I WAS! IT IS AWFUL THAT THEY ARE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM! I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES BEFORE MY WARRANTY WENT OUT. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE OTHER DAY MY SON WAS SICK, AND I COULD NOT GET THE DOOR OPEN, SO HE ENDED UP PUKING ALL OVER MY CAR. WE BOUGHT A NEW-TO-US 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH A POWER OPERATED PASSENGER DOOR. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASE WE PARKED IN OUR CHURCH PARKING LOT (NOT ON AN OBVIOUS INCLINE) AND PUSHED THE INTERNAL BUTTON FOR THE POWER DOOR. I WENT TO TAKE MY CHILD OUT OF HER CAR SEAT AND THE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY CLOSED ON ME. IT TOOK ALL MY FORCE TO KEEP IT OPEN. I LET IT SHUT, THEN REOPENED IT AND IT WOULD NOT LATCH AND KEPT FORCIBLY SHUTTING. I LITERALLY PROPPED THE DOOR OPEN AGAINST ITS WILL TO CLOSE WHILE MY CHILD EXITED. WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS BOTH OF THE REAR SLIDING DOORS ON MY 2008 TOYOTA SIENNA LE HAVE MALFUNCTIONED IN A WAY THAT I BELIEVE COULD JEOPARDIZE THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS. YESTERDAY, THE LEFT HAND REAR DOOR GOT STUCK MIDWAY BETWEEN OPEN AND CLOSED AND ONLY AFTER EXERTING GREAT FORCE ON THE DOOR AND BREAKING THE CABLE ALONG WHICH THE DOOR TRAVELS, WAS I ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR. THE RIGHT HAND REAR DOOR, FOR THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS, HAS BEEN IRREGULARLY GETTING STUCK MIDWAY THROUGH CLOSING AND REVERSING BACK TO AN OPEN POSITION. IF ONE TURNS OFF THE AUTOMATIC DOOR FUNCTION AND ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE THE DOOR MANUALLY, IT CAN ONLY BE OPENED AND CLOSED IF A GREAT DEAL OF FORCE IS EXERTED ON IT, MUCH MORE THAN A CHILD WOULD BE ABLE TO SUMMON. *TR

MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN FLORIDA IN OUR RENTED TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN, AND FIVE FAMILY MEMBERS WERE IN THE CAR, ON A HIGHWAY. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE HOOD CAME UNHOOKED AND FLEW UP, HITTING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE GLASS SHATTERED AND WE WERE SHOWERED WITH GLASS, BUT THE BIGGER PROBLEM WAS THAT THE VIEW OUT THE FRONT WAS ALMOST TOTALLY OBSTRUCTED. WE MANAGED TO SEE THROUGH A SMALL CREVICE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, WHICH WAS NOW UPRIGHT AND COVERING ALMOST ALL THE WINDSHIELD. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT THE OWNER OF THIS AUTOMOBILE, BUT RATHER MY HUSBAND YONATHAN EPELBAUM HAD RENTED IT FROM NATIONAL CAR COMPANY. THE CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO NATIONAL, AND THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE POLICE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED SERIOUS INJURY. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED DURING DAYLIGHT, WHICH HELPED, AS AT LEAST THE DAYLIGHT HELPED WITH VISIBILITY THROUGH THE VERY SMALL OPENING UNDER THE HOOD, FROM WHICH WE WERE ABLE TO STEER AND CHANGE LANES SAFELY WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY. INJURIES WERE FORTUNATELY VERY MINOR SO I AM RECORDING AS "NO INJURIES" BUT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH GLASS. CONSIDERING WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN KILLED, WE FEEL VERY FORTUNATE MY HUSBAND MANAGED TO STEER US OUT OF IT WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING OR BEING HIT.
