My Toyota truck frame is rusted with big holes and could break in two at any time.
- 2001 Toyota Tacoma New Replacement Frame Rusted, it is available for inspection. - The frame is rusted to the point you can push your finger through it, failure concern while driving. -The local Toyota dealership and corporate office, states the vehicle is not covered in any way. - At this time the vehicle has not been inspected due to dealership stating there are no recalls on the second frame that was installed in the 2001 Toyota Tacoma for the original rusting problem. This vehicle likely will not pass state inspection. - There are no warning devices for this problem. The rust/corrosion was located during an oil change.
MY FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND ALL THE CAPOMINTES ARE ALSO. I CANT CHANGE ANYTHING PUT BECAUSE OF IT. MY LEAF SPRINGS ARE SHOT WHERE THEY ARE MOUNTED TO THE FRAME. IS WEAKING WHICH IS MOVING MY BACK AXLE OFF BALANCE. MY FRONT AILMENT IS COMPLETELY OFF. I AND DREAK ANYTHING LOSE TO FIX THE ISSUE'S. I'M WRITING YOU BECAUSE I HAD MY 2001 TACOMA INSPECTED FOR THE FRAME RUST RECALL IN 2010. AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WOULD BE SPRAYED WITH AN INHIBITOR TO PREVENT RUST. THE VEHICLE FRAME HAS SINCE RUSTED AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE SPRAY INHIBITOR OBVIOUSLY DID NOT WORK OR WAS APPLIED INCORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING THESE SIGNS WHILE DRIVINH.

I NOTICED MY 2001 TOYOTA TACOMA MAKING ODD NOISES WHILE DRIVING. I DECIDED TO HAVE MY MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT FROM THE BOTTOM OF TRUCK: HE SAW AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE OBSERVABLE EXTENSIVE RUSTED/CORROSION AND PERFORATED AREAS ON THE FRAME/CHASSIS OF THE TRUCK AND SAID IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP SINCE THERE HAS BEEN A SETTLEMENT LAWSUIT FOR DEFECTS ON TOYOTA TACOMA'S THAT WHERE NOT TREATED WELL ENOUGH WITH THE RUST INHIBITOR SPRAY. I TOOK MY TACOMA TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT ORIGINALLY AND THEY SAID EXACTLY WHAT MY MECHANIC HAD ALREADY TOLD ME ABOUT THE RUSTED AND PERFORATED AREAS ON THE FRAME/CHASSIS AND STATED THAT THE CHASSIS/FRAME HAS AN ADVANCED CORROSION/ RUST DAMAGES TO THE POINT OF THE FRAME BEING FRACTURED OR BROKEN IN HALF IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, WHEREAS IT'S VERY DANGEROUS TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE TRUCK. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT ON THE RUSTY FRAMES AND NOW AM CONSIDERING FURTHER INTO HIRING AN ATTORNEY REGARDING MY 2001 TOYOTA TACOMA. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME AND MY LOVED ONES AND I BELEIVE IT'S INCONSIDERATE AND SHAMING ON TOYOTA TO NOT HAVE ONE SINGLE RECALL INFORMATION ON 2001 TOYOTA TACOMA'S. I HOPE I CAN GET ANSWERS SOON IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM AND WILL DUE WHAT'S NECESSARY TO HAVE TOYOTA RESPOND TO MY ISSUE. 2001 TACOMA. THE 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY IS NOT ENOUGH; IT SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL/INSPECTION WITH NO TIME LIMITATIONS. FRAMES ARE VISIBLY RUSTING THROUGH AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES, BUT THE FRAMES ARE DEFECTIVE PRIOR TO THAT AND OWNERS DON'T REALIZE IT BECAUSE NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED AND ANY VISIBLE INSPECTION DOESN'T REVEAL THE PROBLEM. I KNOW NOW THAT MY FRAME WAS DEFECTIVE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT IT DIDN'T BECOME 'VISIBLE' UNTIL AFTER 16 YEARS. TOYOTA HAS TRIED TO SWEEP THIS UNDER THE RUG BY DOING AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE TO EASE THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DRIVING ON LIFE-THREATENING FRAMES THAT DON'T EVEN REALIZE IT BECAUSE THE FRAME IS SOMETHING AN AVERAGE PERSON DOESN'T TEND TO CHECK? AN OFFICIAL 'RECALL' NOTICE WOULD GET THOSE TRUCKS IN THE SHOP FOR INSPECTION.

I TOOK IT TO HAMILTON BODY SHOP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK.I CONTACTED PERFORMANCE TOYOTA WITH MY VIN # AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL IN THEIR DATA BANK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FRAME INSPECTED AT KINGS TOYOTA TWICE IN THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS AND THEY SAID THE FRAME WAS OK AT THAT TIME. MY TRUCK IS IN MECHANICALLY GOOD CONDITION, BODY LOOKS FINE TOO. WOULD LOVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT SEVERAL MORE YEARS. WOULD APPRECIATE HELP DETERMINING IF THERE IS, IN FACT , A RECALL AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THE INFORMATION I NEED TO GET THIS FRAME REPAIRED.

THERE WAS A RECALL ON TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCKS REGARDING FRAME RUST FOR YEARS 1996 TO 2004 I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO MARION TOYOTA FOR INSPECTION AND THEY SAID THAT THE FRAME WAS OK AND THEY SPRAYED IT WITH A RUST COATING COMPOUND. WHEN I GOT HOME I INSPECTED THE WORK AND FOUND THAT THEY SPRAYED OVER A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MUD THAT WAS ON THE FRAME (SEE PICTURES) I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK. MARION TOYOTA CALLED A REPRESENTATIVE FROM CHICAGO. THEY SORT OF "CLEANED" OFF THE MUD AND RESPRAYED THE FRAME. THERE WAS STILL MUD UNDERNEATH THE SPRAY. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE WITH THE TRUCK AND TOLD ME THAT IT DID NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY RECALL REPLACEMENT. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO BRING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF TOYOTA BUT TO NO AVAIL. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE FRONT BUMPER JUST FELL OFF. THE FRAME IS FLAKING RUST AND CORRODING AT JOINTS. MARION TOYOTA BASICALLY JUST SPRAYED OVER MUD TO SEAL THE FRAME.
FRAME RECALL: WHEN I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL I TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN SLC, UT AND HAD IT CHECKED ON 9/22/08. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS FINE AND THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO IT. NOW 8 YEARS LATER, MY TRUCK HAS TURNED INTO A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED OUT, I CAN'T EVEN GET MY BRAKE LINE THAT RECENTLY BROKE REPAIRED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS PARTICULAR RECALL EXPIRED IN 2014. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A RECALL CAN EXPIRE. NOR DO I UNDERSTAND THAT IF MY FRAME WAS FINE IN 2008, HOW IT COULD HAVE RUSTED AWAY TO THIS EXTENT SO QUICKLY. THE STATE OF THE CURRENT RUST WAS POINTED OUT TO ME IN 2016. I UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE TRUCK FOR 16 YEARS; HOWEVER, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE AND I HAD HOPED TO DRIVE IT TILL THE ENGINE DIED. PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THIS RECALL COULD EXPIRE WHEN IT DID AND WHY TOYOTA WON'T ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPLACING THE FRAME.

UNFORTUNATELY I NOW HAVE AN UNSAFE, NON-DRIVEABLE AND UNSALABLE VEHICLE. TOYOTA SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH VEHICLES THEY REPAIR CORRECTLY AND WHICH THEY COVERUP WITH UNDERCOATING. I APPEAL TO THE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS RUST IS BLISTERING OUT FROM MULTIPLE AREAS UNDER THE UNDERCOATING. PLEASE HELP!

TOYOTA TREATED THE FRAME WITH A SOLUTION AND WE WERE ADVISED THE THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. THE VEHICLE FRAME RECENTLY COLLAPSED / BROKE IN TWO. I NOTIFIED TOYOTA OF THE ISSUE AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #1606222761. I WAS NOTIFIED TODAY BY TOYOTA AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE FRAME WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED BUT THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED 11/7/2015. THEY ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO APPEAL PROCESS AND NO SOLUTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS IS PERFECT RUNNING ORDER AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION (OTHER THAN A BROKEN FRAME). THE BROKEN FRAME WAS NOT A RESULT OF ABUSE OR A SPECIFIC MOMENT IN TIME - IT JUST COLLAPSED DUE TO CORROSION - THE VERY ISSUE OF THE 2011 RECALL THAT WE WERE TOLD HAD BEEN RESOLVED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, AND WITHOUT EVEN INSPECTING THE TRUCK, I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CORP OFFICE, WHICH I HAVE NOT DONE YET. BUT WILL DO TODAY. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC TO GET HIS OPINION...HE ADVISED THAT IT WAS SEVERE AND WOULD NOT PASS ANY INSPECTION.
WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK WE HEARD A RUBBING AND CLANKING NOISE. THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER SUPPORT ,ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY ALONG WITH THE FRAME AND IS NOW RESTING AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK BED. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER WHO INFORMED US THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME IS PERFORATED WITH HOLES, THE FRAME ON THE DRIVERS FRONT IS EXTREMELY DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WERE TOLD THEY WILL DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE FRAME IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 46 DAYS.

HOW MUCH WILL SOMETHING RUST BEFORE IT BECOMES A FAILURE, ESPECIALLY WITH A LINE UNDER PRESSURE SUCH AS BRAKE LINES? THE LAST TIME I FILLED UP I NOTICED GAS LEAKING ON THE CONCRETE. I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS COMING FROM THE TANK ITSELF OR NOT.

AS IN FIST SIZE HOLES ALL DOWN THE FRAME. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL AND MENTIONED THE FRAME RUST AND THE RECALL ON THE FRAMES. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE RUST. IM NOW STUCK WITH A VERY UNSAFE TRUCK FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN TO BE IN AND A COMPANY THAT FLAT OUT MADE A MISTAKE AND WONT OWN UP TO IT. I WILL UPLOAD DETAILED PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE LATER ON.

INSPECTION FAILED. TOLD FRAME RUSTED BADLY AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. CONTACTED TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL COMPLETELY BUCKLED UNDER THE TRUCK. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY DRIVING 15 MPH. HAD THIS BROKEN WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR INJURED SOMEONE ELSE. AS A RESULT, THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT BOTH BALL JOINTS WERE BAD SO BOTH WERE REPLACED. THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THE SPARE TIRE CANNOT BE REMOVED. NO NOTICE WAS EVER GIVEN TO US OR THE PREVIOUS OWNER BY TOYOTA, REGARDING THE PROBLEMS STATED ABOVE.

THE ENGINE REVED UP AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK PRESSED DOWN. THERE WAS NO FLOOR MAT IN THE WAY. I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND PULL OVER. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON, THE RPMS WERE STILL EXTREMELY HIGH, SO I HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR OVER 5 MINUTES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES SINCE THEN. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO A MECHANIC WHO CAN NOT GET IT TO REPEAT FOR HIM. THIS IS VERY SCARY. THE GOOD THING IS THAT THIS IS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION, SO NEUTRAL IS EASY. IT IS VERY UNSAFE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENS.
MY SON WAS DRIVING NORTH ON I45 FROM HUNTSVILLE, TX TO FORT WORTH, AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30 PM. HE WAS DRVING APPROXIMATELY 70-75 MPH NEAR MM159 WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD THUD NOISE COME FROM UNDER HIS TRUCK. HE IMMEDIATELY OBSERVED FLAMES COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. THE FLAMES ENGULFED THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AND UNDER THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED A BURN TO THE LOWER PORTION OF HIS LEFT LEG. SECONDS AFTER HE EXITED THE VEHICLE, THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. A TEXAS STATE TROOPER WAS PASSING SHORTLY AFTER MY SON EXITED THE VEHICLE AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND PARAMEDICS. (PHOTOS TAKEN).

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE UNDER NEATH TIRE RACK TO BE FIXED. IT APPARENTLY HAS RUSTED AWAY. I HAVE CASE 1411181385 WITH TOYOTA. THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE TIRE RACK BECAUSE THE REST OF THE FRAME IS RUSTED AWAY AS WELL. *JS

I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS ALERTED TO THE FRAME CORROSION. I CAN ACTUALLY PUSH MY FINGER THROUGH THE RUST AND FRAME, HOLES ARE VISIBLE IN THE FRAME. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I FEAR OF SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE VOLUNTARY BUYBACK PROGRAM FOR FIXING THIS WAS EXPIRED. I AM NOW LEFT WITH AN IMMACULATELY CLEAN CAR IN PRISTINE SHAPE THAT CANNOT BE DRIVEN AND I AM LEERY OF EVEN SELLING TO SOMEONE ELSE REGARDLESS OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE FRAME. REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ARE POPPING UP ALL OVER AND IT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH AS A SERIOUS MATTER AND SUBJECT TO SAFETY RECALL. LESSER ISSUES HAVE HAD RECALLS AND IT HAS BEEN LEFT UP TO TOYOTA TO PROVIDE VOLUNTARY BUYBACK PROGRAMS INSTEAD OF BEING MANDATED FOR PUBLIC SAFETY.

I LIVE IN VIRGINIA. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR INSPECTION OF THE TRUCK FRAME FOR RUST CORROSION. AT THE TIME VEHICLE HAD THE RECALL I WAS BEING TREATED FOR A MENTAL DISABILITY AND IN MENTAL HOSPITALS. I WAS NOT OF SOUND MIND OR JUDGMENT TO UNDERSTAND THE "RECALL NOTICE". WHILE HAVING OIL CHANGED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK WAS NOTED TO HAVE HOLES IN THE FRAME CAUSED BY RUST. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK HONORING THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH I PROVIDED THE NECESSARY INFORMATION FROM DOCTORS PROVIDING DOCUMENTATION OF MY ILLNESS AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. ON MARCH 14, 2013, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A SAFETY RECALL FOR RUST OF THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER; WHICH COULD FALL OFF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE TOYOTA DEALER REPLACED THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER CONSISTING OF TWO METAL PLATES WITH FOUR BOLTS THAT WAS BOLTED TO A DEFECTIVE FRAME THAT HAS HOLES DUE TO CORROSION; ALSO, THEY REPLACED SUPPORTS THAT RUNS BETWEEN THE TWO FRAME RAILS; THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE CABLE NOR THE RUSTED PART THAT HOLDS THE WHEEL TO THE PREVIOUS ASSEMBLY PARTS. THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONLY REPLACED THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER PLATE ONTO A FRAME THAT HAS HOLES DUE TO RUST THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I NEED THIS VEHICLE AS I AM ON DISABILITY AND LIMITED INCOME; I WANT THE FRAME REPLACED OR A NEW TRUCK WITH THE SAME OPTIONS AS I HAVE ON THE 2001 TACOMA. TOYOTA RECEIVED A 25 MILLION DOLLAR SETTLEMENT FROM DANA CORPORATION, SUPPLIER OF THE TACOMA TRUCK FRAMES, PROPER ANTIRUST PREVENTATIVE WAS NOT APPLIED TO PREVENT CORROSION, WHICH WAS A COST SAVING FOR ONE OR BOTH COMPANIES. FROM 1995 TO 2004 THE TACOMA TRUCKS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. BY REPLACING THE FRAME TOYOTA WOULD NOT BE LOSING ANY MONEY BECAUSE THEY GOT THEIR MONEY FROM DANA CORP SUPPLIER OF THE TACOMA FRAMES. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING UP A MOUNTAIN, THE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME WAS SLOW, I BRAKED TO SLOW, BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I PUSHED HARDER ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE TRUCK STILL DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OFF, A DROP OFF ON THE RIGHT AND TRAFFIC ON THE LEFT COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD PUSH IT, ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN. THERE WAS A PARKING AREA AT THE TOP AND I TURNED INTO THAT AREA. MY HUSBAND QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE KEY AND WE CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. WE GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND MY HUSBAND RAISED THE HOOD. SEVERAL MEN STOPPED TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP. WHILE THE TRUCK WAS SITTING THERE, WITH THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK, MY HUSBAND STARTED THE ENGINE A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE ENGINE RACED AT FULL SPEED. MY HUSBAND DID NOT HAVE HIS FOOT NEAR EITHER PEDAL. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE FLOOR NEAR THE PEDALS. A TOW TRUCK CAME AND PICKED UP THE TRUCK, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE OWNER'S LOCATION AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISCONNECTED. THE ENGINE RAN NORMALLY THEN. WE TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS CHECKED, AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK.
