The frame is rusting out substantially. The dealer advised me not to drive because the frame could fail at anytime. I have been driving around unaware of the problem. I could have been killed if the framed failed on the highway. There was no warning light. The Vehicle has been into the dealer and no one mentioned the problem until 08/30/2024. The Vehicle has been maintained and garaged. The vehicle is in good condition and has not been in an accident. I called Toyota and was told I was out of luck because the warranty expired even though the frame problem was Toyotas fault. A truck frame should outlast the engine and the body. I plan to keep the truck for 400,00 miles and my finances are very tight. Toyota is penalizing me because the frame didn't rust out sooner and on Toyotas time frame.

Frame failure due to rust. Suspension is detached with springs hitting frame. NOTE: fuel tank partially detached previously due to rusted brackets 3-4 years ago and all components were replaced. Filed NHTSA report at that time however had technical issues completing… Still have photos.

In May of 2018, I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. After arrival of new title, I received a safety recall notice from Toyota in regards to possible abnormal frame rust. I was instructed to take my Tacoma to nearest Toyota dealership for frame inspection. Prior to taking Tacoma in for frame inspection, I scoped the frame myself, and noticed abnormal rust forming throughout both sides of the frame. Therefore, I took my Tacoma to Berge Toyota in Mesa AZ. for further inspection and to have some other repairs done. Upon my arrival to Berge Toyota, l informed the service writer of the repairs that were needed done and showed him the request from Toyota for the frame inspection. My vehicle was taken to a lift, where a brief frame inspection was performed with a flashlight only and I was told the frame was fine, and the rust I had witnessed during my personal inspection was within a standard tolerance of "normal". On September 12, 2022 my frame cracked in a horseshoe formation around the driver side motor mount, causing the engine to shift and sink approx. 3/4" towards the driver side. This frame failure has caused numerous problems to occur, such as the fan to continuously rub against the shroud, abnormal shifting of the transmission, ramping up and down of RPM's, vehicle's steering locks up and cannot be safely driven, leaving me without transportation After detailed inspection was performed on my Tacoma, the horseshoe crack around the motor mount was found and it was determined this was the source of all the problems. I contacted Berge Toyota where I was informed by their service manager that Berge Toyota was not certified to do the frame inspection or repair, and further explained the safety recall had expired and instructed me to contact Toyota to see what could be done. The question I had for the Berge Toyota service manager, was if they were not certified to do the frame inspection, or repair why did they inspect my frame and inform me it was fine, when it wasn't?

I got a recall on my 2005 Toyota frame for rust problem. I took it to magness Toyota in Harrison Arkansas they checked the frame and said it was ok. 2 years later when I had my 2005 toyota serviced they found on both sides the frame was severely rusted through and can and will be a dangerous circumstance

THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRAME AND IN 2015 MY FATHER-IN-LAW OWNED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT INSPECTED AND ALL I KNOW IS IT PASSED. HE IS DECEASED NOW AND I OWN THE VEHICLE AND RECURVED NOTIFICATION ABOUT A RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS SO MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS TO RUSTED TO SAFELY TAKE SPRINGS OFF TO REPLACE. THE FRAME RECALL HAS EXPIRED BUT THE SPRING RECALL IS STILL IN EFFECT. SO I FEEL THAT TO FIX THE SAFETY ISSUE THEY SHOULD FIX THE FRAME SO THAT THEY CAN FIX THE SPRINGS TO SOLVE THE SAFETY ISSUE. ANY ADVICE OR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE AT THE RESIDENCE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE REAR DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF LA CROSSE (800 3RD ST S, LA CROSSE, WI 54601) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,000.

I'M A MECHANIC THE PRICE WAS RIGHT SO I BOUGHT IT WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT WHEN INSTALLING THE ALTERNATOR I SAW RUST HOLE IN THE FRAME IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE A LITTLE MORE INSPECTION SHOWED THERE IS NOT MUCH FRAME LEFT THERE IS A WHOLE CROSS MEMBER MISSING THE FRAME IS BROKEN IN FRONT OF THE REAR SPRING HANGER AND ONE OF THE STRUTS IS SEPARATING FROM THE FRAME THE WHOLE FRAME SEEMS TO BE DELAMINATING BUT NO RUST IN THE BODY ANYWHERE I NOTICED ANYWAY I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT TOYOTA HAD FIXED THIS PROBLEM I CHECKED THE SERVICE REPORT 2/9/16 169000 MILES RUST PRESENT BUT NO PERFORATION FOUND. OK AT THIS TIME. EXACT WORDS SO HERE I AM FOUR YEARS LATER 189000 MILES WITH A ROTTEN FRAME AND TOYOTA SAYING YOU MISSED THE WINDOW I HAVE TO WONDER HOW MANY MORE OF THESE DANGEROUS PICKUPS ARE ON THE ROAD THIS ONE RUNS AND DRIVES WELL.

NEEDING TO SELL TRUCK IN 2019 I CLEANED/SCRAPED FRAME AND REMOVED 6 POUNDS OF RUST FROM ONLY 1/2 OF THE TRUCK--TOOK TRUCK AND PICTURES IN TO DAVE EDWARDS AND THEY LOOKED AT PICTURES AND REFUSED TO LOOK AT TRUCK OR DO REPAIRS TO FRAME OR LEAF SPRINGS (ON RECALL). SO, I SPENT $20,000 ON A TRUCK THAT THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CONDEMN. SO, IS TRUCK UNSAFE TO DRIVE? WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO TRUCK, OR MY FAMILY, OR SOMEONE ELSE?

I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA, I TOOK IT TO WHITE RIVER TOYOTA, 303 SYKES MOUNTAIN AVENUE, WHITE RIVER JUNCTION VT 05001 802-299-2880 FOR SOME RECALL WORK, THEY WERE UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL WORK ON THE LEAF SPRINGS BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS SO ROTTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD ATTACH THE LEAF SPRINGS TO, IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY FOR THE FRAME THAT HAD EXPIRED ON 1/31/19 AND THEY WERE NO LONGER ABLE TO HELP ME. MY TRUCK HAS 25,125 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT, THE BODY AND ENGINE ARE IN GREAT SHAPE, BUT THE FRAME IS JUNK. I HAD NOTICED SOME INSTABILITY IN THE HANDLING OF THE TRUCK ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LEAF SPRINGS AS WELL AS THE FRAME.

OUR 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA'S GAS TANK HAD FALLEN OFF THE FRAME DUE TO CORRODED STRAPS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT SLOW SPEED ON OUR PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 140,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS NO SERIOUS INJURY. HOWEVER, HAD THE TANK SEPARATED WHILE BEING DRIVEN IT IS VERY POSSIBLE AND PROBABLE THAT THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN IGNITION, FIRE, EXPLOSION AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE DEALERSHIP HAD GIVEN US AN AN INITIAL ESTIMATE OF $1,800 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS STATING THAT THE CORROSION IS 'PART OF WINTER DRIVING' THIS IS FAR FROM A PLAUSIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE EXPLANATION. GAS TANKS SHOULD NOT FALL OFF VEHICLES AND POSE SUCH A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY THREAT. TOYOTA CORPORATE REFUSED TO PAY FOR MORE THAN ROUGHLY $400 IN REPAIRS TO THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE FINAL BILL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES WERE $2,300 IN COSTS FOR REPAIR.

WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED FOR RUST AND CORROSION THAT WE SEEN, PALMERS AIRPORT TOYOTA SAID THEY SEEN NONE, THE A-FRAME HAS RUSTED AND CORRODED TO THE POINT OF SNAPPING AND THE METAL IS CORRODED AND PEELING WITH A CRACK GOING AROUND THE WHOLE A-FRAME. THE TRUCK IS NOW NOT MOVEABLE, THE WHOLE TIRE WILL FALL OFF IF WE DO MOVE IT, WE MADE IT BACK TO OUR HOME WITH IT LUCKILY AND TOYOTA CORPORATE SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG VIBRATION COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE U-JOINTS HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY LUBRICATED FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE DEALER (LEGACY TOYOTA, 3800 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304, (850) 688-9264) DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE DRIVETRAIN AND THE U-JOINTS. THE CONTACT CONSTANTLY HAD TO LUBE THE U-JOINTS TO PREVENT DRYNESS, WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE DRIVETRAIN TO FRACTURE. THE CONTACT, A MECHANIC, REPLACED THE U-JOINTS AND TOOK THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE PART, BUT NO REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE U-JOINTS AND THE DRIVESHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

CONTRADICTING TO TO RECALL NOTICE, THEY TOLD ME THIS ISSUE WAS NOT A "BIG DEAL." ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A LEAF COULD FRACTURE DUE TO STRESS AND CORROSION. AND, IF THIS OCCURS AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE OPERATED, THE BROKEN LEAF COULD MOVE OUT OF POSITION AND CONTACT SURROUNDING COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK. IF THE BROKEN LEAF CONTACTS THE FUEL TANK REPEATEDLY, IT COULD PUNCTURE THE TANK AND CAUSE A FUEL LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. TOYOTA CLAIMED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE LEAF SPRINGS WITH NEWLY DESIGNED ONES, BIT THIS HAS YET TO HAPPEN.

I TOOK MY TACOMA TO DEALER TO HAVE REAR LEAF SPRINGS INSPECTED PER A RECALL (14V604).. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL OWNER (I'M SECOND OWNER) HAD INSTALLED A 2" LIFT KIT. THEY LEFT ME IN "LIMBO" REGARDING THIS RECALL. I DO NOT KNOW, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, IF MY LEAF SPRINGS NEED REPLACING. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOUSY WAY TO HANDLE A RECALL.

TOYOTA FRAME RECALL - I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH HOLES AND CRACKS VISIBLE IN THE FRAME. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE DAMAGE INTERNALLY TO THE FRAME. HUGE CHUNKS OF FRAME RUST COME FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME WHEN PRESSURE WASHED. THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AND RESIDED IN THE NORTHEAST FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLE'S LIFE. THE TRUCK WAS OBVIOUSLY EXPOSED TO ROAD SALTS AND AS A RESULT THE FRAME HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. THE TOYOTA DEALER MUST BE AWARE OF THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THIRD PARTY SERVICE CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE NORTHEAST. IN 2014 TOYOTA TRIED TO COVERED UP THE PROBLEM WITH A "RUST INHIBITOR" WHICH ONLY HIDE THE TRUE DAMAGE ON THE FRAME. I RECENTLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO AUTONATION TOYOTA AT 2555 COLONIAL BLVD, FORT MYERS, FL 33907 PHONE:(239) 321-5413 FOR A DIFFERENT RECALL, THE REAR SPRINGS. I REQUESTED THE FRAME BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECENT TOYOTA FRAME RECALL SETTLEMENT AND WAS SIMPLY IGNORED. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING MY TRUCK AS A NECESSITY KNOWING THERE MAY BE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT ANY TIME. TOYOTA HAS AGREED IN COURT TO EITHER REPLACE OR BUY OUT THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. MY TRUCK IS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD BUT I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES OF THE AFFECTED AREAS OF THE FRAME AS EVIDENCE OF THE DAMAGE. PLEASE HELP!

I ADDED AN EXTRA LEAF UNDER THE SUBSTANDARD ONES TO MITIGATE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WHILE TOWING, AND WAS TOLD I HAD "MODIFIED THE ORIGINAL SPRINGS". THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ORDERED THE PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) BY THE MANUFACTURER ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2014. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY RECENTLY NOTIFIED OF THE MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,431.

RECALL # 14V-604, REAR LEAF SPRINGS RECALLED. HEARTLAND TOYOTA IN BREMERTON WASHINGTON SAYING THEY WILL DO WORK, BUT NOT RETURN VEHICLE IN CONDITION THEY FOUND IT. THEY ARE REFUSING TO REPLACE THE "ADD-A-LEAF" THAT WAS PUT ON THE TRUCK, ON TOP OF THE EXISTING, RECALLED, LEAF SPRING. HEARTLAND HAS SERVICED THIS VEHICLE FOR 10 YEARS IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. I WAS TOLD BY A SERVICE ASSOCIATE THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF A "NEW SERVICE MANAGER," AND THAT THEY HAVE DONE THE FULL WORK MANY TIMES. IN FACT, AN ASSOCIATE OF MINE HAD THE SAME REAR LEAF SPRINGS REPLACED, AND THIS DEALERSHIP DID REPLACE HIS "ADD-A-LEAF", RETURNING HIS VEHICLE IN THE CONDITION IT WAS DROPPED OFF IN. "THEIR LIABILITY" WAS THE REASON I WAS GIVEN FOR THEIR ONLY BEING WILLING TO DO AN ABBREVIATED JOB.

LEAF SPRINGS BROKE AND SEVERED MY BRAKE LINES.WHEN I CONTACTED A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THIS IS SAFTEY RECALL E02. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF RECALL, I LOST MY BREAKS SMASHED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR. TOYOTA WONT PAY FOR A TOW FOR ME TO GET FIXED. I CANT DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE RECALL CAUSED MY LEAF SPRING TO BREAK MY BREAK LINES AND SMASH MY GARAGE DOOR. ITS NOT DRIVABLE

I WAS INFORMED THAT IN ORDER TO DO RECALL I HAD TO PAY $480 TO REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION IN ORDER TO DO RECALL WHICH AMOUNTS TO 3 HRS LABOR CHARGE. I DIDN'T AGREE TO THAT AND LEFT. I ENDED UP CALLING TOYOTA WITH THE ISSUE AND ASKING FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I FOUND IT TO BE INTERESTING THAT NO ONE I TALKED TO HAD RUN INTO THIS SITUATION BEFORE. THE RECALL AFFECTS 600K TRUCKS AND APPARENTLY I'M THE ONLY ONE WITH A LIFT KIT INSTALLED ,WHICH IS LUDICROUS. I FEEL TOYOTA HAS RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THIS AND THEY ARE UNDER LAW TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I THOUGHT I WAS CURRENT ON ALL RECALL ACTIVITY BUT IT TURNS OUT THIS WAS A "SERVICE CAMPAIGN" THAT HAD A START AND END DATE. RECORDS SHOW I HAD RECALL WORK DONE JUST DAYS BEFORE THIS TIME FRAME PERIOD BEGAN AND RECALL WORK DONE LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER IT EXPIRED. I WAITED AN ADDITIONAL TWO MONTHS BEFORE CALLING AGAIN AND WAS GIVEN THE SAME STORY. AT THE ONE YEAR MARK UPON RECEIVING THIS FIRST NOTICE I CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED THE STATUS OF THIS RECALL. I WAS GIVEN THE SAME STORY, AS THE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE THEY WILL CALL ME AND LET ME KNOW THEY ARE READY TO INSTALL THEM ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD COMPLETE FAILURE TO MY RACK AND PINION STEERING DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE COMPONENT. I WAS PULLING INTO A BUSINESS DOING ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR AND IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I CHECKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND ON THE GROUND WAS A PUDDLE OF STEERING FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND WHEN HE EXAMINED THE TRUCK TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, HE STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION HAD COMPLETED ROTTED OUT AND BROKE. I ALSO HAD HIM CHECK THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK, SINCE I RECEIVED A TSB BULLETIN ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO NOT ENOUGH FRAME UNDERCOATING BEING APPLIED IN COLD STATES. HE FOUND A LARGE HOLE BEHIND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN THE FRAME. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE REST OF THE FRAME AND FOUND SOME SMALLER PERFORATIONS AS WELL. MY QUESTIONS IS IF THE FRAME IS BEGINNING TO ROT AND THEY ARE SELECTIVELY REPLACING THE FRAMES OR VEHICLE IF THEY ARE A DANGER, WHY ARE NO OTHER COMPONENTS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THESE FAILING PARTS COVERED AS WELL AND FAILING DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROT OR RUSTING. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS FAILED DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEED THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEVASTATING TO ALL INVOLVED, POSSIBLY LEADING TO SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. SOMETHING MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE AND THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE WHO OWN AND OPERATE THEM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STOP PLAYING THE "ITS NOT COVERED OR APPLICABLE" GAME AND TAKE OWNERSHIP AND FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED. THEY HAVE SINCE BEEN RECALLED BUT TO DATE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT. IN 2014 THE STEERING SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND AT THE SAME TIME THE FRAME WAS DETERMINED CORRODED BEYOND REPAIR. TOYOTA MADE PROMISE TO REPLACE THE FRAME UNDER RECALL IN NOV 2014 BUT TO DATE HAS NOT DELIVERED AND HAS NOT INDICATED WHEN I CAN EXPECT THE REPAIR TO BE MADE. FOR OVER SIX MONTHS NOW I HAVE BEEN LEFT WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT I CAN'T SELL OR REPLACE.

THE STEERING IN MY TOYOTA TACOMA BEGAN TO BIND SUDDENLY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. UPON INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND STEERING YOKE BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART APPEARS TO BE AN UPDATED PART WITH A RUBBER BOOT TO PREVENT CORROSION OF THE SHAFT JOINTS. I BELIEVE THE FAILURE OF THE ORIGINAL PART WAS DUE TO POOR DESIGN, CAUSING THE PART TO BEGIN TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS SIGNIFICANT FRAME RUST. THERE ARE SEVERAL AREAS ON THE FRAME WHERE LARGE SECTIONS OF METAL HAVE DELAMINATED. THIS PRESENTS A STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ISSUE IN KEY SUPPORTING AREAS OF THE FRAME ASSEMBLY FOR MAJOR COMPONENTS TO INCLUDE DRIVE TRAIN, BRAKING AND SUSPENSION. THE OVERALL CRASH WORTHINESS IS IN QUESTION DUE TO THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ISSUE PRESENTED BY THE FRAME DESIGN, METAL COMPOSITION AND PREMATURE RUSTING AND METAL FATIGUE. TOYOTA HAS STARTED A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN TO APPLY A CORROSION RESISTANCE PROTECTION, BUT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. I TOLD THEM I THINK IT BROKE OFF AND THAT I HAD SPOKEN WITH THEM BEFORE BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. 6 MONTHS HAVE PASSED AS MY TRUCK EVERYDAY RIDE WAS BOUNCY, BOTTOMED OUT SO I COULD NOT TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. EARLY THIS SPRING I BROUGHT MY TACOMA TO MY TOYOTA DEALER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A LARGER PERFORATION THAT APPEARED IN MY FRAME. THERE DEALER PHOTOGRAPHED IT, SENT IT TO TOYOTA, AND INFORMED ME THEY WOULD CALL ME IF TOYOTA WAS GOING TO TAKE ANY ACTION. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HE WAS HEARING RUMORS OF A FRAME RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD CHECK IN PERIODICALLY. EARLY IN OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR I READ ON HE INTERNET ABOUT THE TACOMA "LEAF SPRING" RECALL AND BROUGHT MY TRUCK BACK TO TOYOTA. MY TRUCK WAS AGAIN INSPECTED, PHOTOGRAPHED, AND A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS TOLD TO BRING MY TRUCK IN. I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA WAS MAILING OUT NOTICES TO QUALIFIED TOYOTA OWNERS AND THAT I SHOULD BE GETTING MY RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER SOON. I HAVE NEVER YET RECEIVED THAT LETTER. HOWEVER, I BROUGHT MY TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER ON OCTOBER 10 AND THEY PROMPTLY IMPOUNDED IT, SAYING IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WITHIN A YEAR OF PURCHASE, THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS BECAME SOFT AND THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT ON BUMPS. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER (HADDADS, PITTSFIELD, MA) AND THEY REFUSED TO SERVICE IT CLAIMING NOTHING WAS WRONG. I LATER TOOK IT TO A SPRINGFIELD DEALERSHIP AND RECEIVED THE SAME ANSWER. I THEN TOOK IT TO SUPERIOR SPRING IN PITTSFIELD. THEY FOUND BOTH SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, CLAIMING I HAD OVER LOADED THE TRUCK. I HAD NOT EVER CARRIED MORE THAN A FEW HUNDRED LBS IN THE BED OF THIS 1/2 TON TRUCK. THE FRAME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PRE RUNNER IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT DUE TO A FLAW IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE RECALL WAS 3 MONTHS PAST THE DATE OF THE END OF THE RECALL. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS LARGE CRACKS IN THE FRAME AND IS NO LONGER SAFE. THIS ISSUE STILL EXISTS IN THE 2005 MODEL AND MUST BE ADDRESSED FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. DURING A REPAIR VISIT TO TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FRAME WAS RUSTING IN SEVERAL PLACES. I WAS TOLD THAT AT THE PRESENT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE BUT THAT THE RUST WOULD CONTINUE AND LEAD TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF RUSTING PROBLEMS WITH PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. I SEE THAT THE 2004 AND EARLIER MODEL YEARS WERE RECALLED FOR RUSTING FRAMES. DEALERSHIPS WAS ALSO AWARE OF AN INCREASE IN FRAME RUSTING CASES IN 2005 TACOMA TRUCKS AS WELL. TRUCK ONLY HAS 66,000 MILES AND WAS NOT USED FOR HEAVY HAULING. REPAIR OR REINFORCEMENT IS NOT AN OPTION. ONLY REMEDY OFFERED BY TOYOTA WAS FOR ME TO REPLACE THE FRAME AT A COST OF $13,000. STARTED HEARING RUBBING/GRINDING TYPE NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. INSPECTED AND FOUND LF CV AXLE LEAKING GREASE, SO THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THERE. REPLACED LF CV AXLE, AND THE NOISE DID NOT GO AWAY. INSPECTED FURTHER AND FOUND DRIVERS SIDE FRAME WHERE THE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKET IS WELDED TO CRACKED, CAUSING THE MOTOR TO FLEX AND THE FAN TO RUB ON THE FAN SHROUD. CONTACTED TOYOTA, WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO GET IT INSPECTED AT A DEALERSHIP. TOOK TO TOYOTA DEALER, WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF DRIVER ABUSE, NO RUST, NOT REALLY ANYTHING THAT SHOWED WHY THE WELD HAD BROKEN, BUT THAT TOYOTA DID NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING DUE TO AFTERMARKET LIFT AND OVERSIZED TIRED. LIFT WAS ALREADY INSTALLED ON VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TOYOTA CORPORATE TOLD ME THEY DID NOT WANT TO HELP BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY. THE STEERING SHAFT IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE PART OF THE MOTOR THAT IS SAGGING DOWN, AND I AM AFRAID IF IT WERE TO BREAK COMPLETELY IT MIGHT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM BEING ABLE TO TURN. ALSO, IS THERE NOW EXTRA STRESS ON ANY OF THE WIRING? IS IT FLEXING AND POTENTIALLY BREAKING ANY FUEL LINES? I HAVE DONE SOME REASEARCH ON THIS, AND FOUND A LOT OF PEOLPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR TRUCKS. TOYOTA HAS STARTED PUTTING UPDATED FRAMES WITH MORE SUPPORT FOR THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON THE 2007 MODELS, KNOWING THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE 05/06S, BUT ARE REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND FIX THE ONES THAT HAVE BROKEN. *TR

TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION, NOTIFIED THAT THE FRAME HAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION (RUST) ON THE ENTIRE FRAME WITH SIGNS OF METAL SEPARATION. A CRACK WAS ALSO NOTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE FRONT AND BACK PARTS OF THE C-FRAME ARE WELDED TOGETHER. WHEN THE SURFACE RUST WAS GROUND AWAY, THE CRACK WAS 5" LONG AND THE BOTTOM OF THE C-FRAME HAD TWO LARGE PERFORATIONS. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE INSPECTION. THE DEALER CONTACTED REGIONAL REP AND OWNER CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE - BOTH ADVISED NO ASSISTANCE AND THE FRAMES WERE OF A DIFFERENT PRODUCTION LOT THEN THE PRIOR RECALL (2ND GEN VS 1ST GEN). AS I WAS LEAVING WORK I SLOWLY DROVE OVER A SPEED BUMP. THE REAR END OF MY TRUCK BEGAN TO BOUNCE LIKE A BOAT IN CHOPPY WATER. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED TO SEE IF I HAD A LOW TIRE. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE FINE SO I KEPT LOOKING. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL, I NOTICED THAT THE SHOCK ROD HAD BROKEN OFF AT THE THEADED END AND SHOT STRAIGHT THROUGH THE BED OF MY TRUCK. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE TRUCK TO GLENN TOYOTA FOR INSPECTION. INITIALLY THEY TOOK GREAT INTEREST UNTIL AFTER THEY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA MANUFACTURING WOULD NOT COVER THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. NOW THE TRUCK RIDES LIKE A BOAT IN CHOPPY WATER AND EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BUMP IN THE ROAD CAUSES AN EXAGGERATED RESPONSE IN THE SUSPENSION MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY NEW 2005 TACOMA 7 YRS AGO, INFORMED ME MY TRUCK WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION DUE TO HOLES RUSTED THROUGH THE FRAME. THE LARGEST OF THE HOLES WAS LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE ON THE INSIDE OF THE MAIN BOX FRAME COMPONENT. THERE ARE SIMILAR HOLES ALONG OTHER BOX STYLE FRAME PARTS. THESE RUST HOLES ORIGINATED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE BOX FRAME AND NOT FROM WHERE ANY RUST PREVENTATIVE COULD BE APPLIED BY THE OWNER. ANY POST PRODUCTION APPLICATION OF UNDERCOATING OR UNDERBODY OIL BY THE OWNER TO THE INTERIOR OF THESE BOXED AREAS IS NOT POSSIBLE SINCE THEY ARE INACCESSIBLE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO WITHOUT TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS APPROVAL. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS LINE AT 1-800-331-4331 AND AFTER A LONG CONVERSATION WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK MODEL WAS NOT COVERED BY EITHER A VEHICLE WARRANTY OR A REMEDIAL ACTION BY TOYOTA. RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT TOYOTA TACOMA MODELS HAVE HAD FRAME RUSTING PROBLEMS CONSISTENTLY SINCE THE MID 90'S. MY OPTIONS FROM TOYOTA, ALL AT MY OWN EXPENSE, ARE TO: 1. FIND A FRAME SHOP THAT CAN PATCH THESE HOLES BUT MOST LIKELY THE PATCH WILL ONLY LAST A YEAR. 2. HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED WHICH THE DEALERSHIP ROUGHLY ESTIMATED IT TO BE CLOSE TO $12,000. 3. JUNK THE TRUCK AND GET A NEW VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK EXPECTING TO GET AT LEAST 300-400K MILES. THE TRUCK LOOKS NEW, THE BODY HAS NO RUST, IT HAS NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND RUNS GREAT. ON 12/9/2010, I CALLED THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGE POPPING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE ON 6/28/2005 AND ACKNOWLEDGE REAR SUSPENSION SQUEAKING NOISES ON 8/13/2009, BUT THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE TRUCK HAS TO BE UNDER 3 YEARS OLD OR 36,000 MILES TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

I HAVE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4, VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END AS IF THE FRONT TIRES ARE OUT OF BALANCE, THE TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED TWO TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS WHICH DOESN'T SEEM TO BE THE ISSUE. THE PROBLEMS SEEMS TO OCCUR AT SPEEDS OF 55 TO 65 MPH. IT COMES AND GOES AND GET TO POINT SOMETIMES IF FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO HANDLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER TWICE ABOUT IT AND THEY SAY THERE'S NOTHING WRONG, YEAH RIGHT. *JB

POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD 29 MAR 06 05/06 TACOMA SUSPENSION DESIGN-DESIGN FLAW AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS NOT A QUESTION BUT A DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I AND OTHER PREVIOUS AND CURRENT TACOMA OR TRUCK OWNERS CONSIDER A DESIGN FLAW AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. I'M HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FRONT END METAL SUSPENSION KNUCKLE THAT SITS A 1/2 INCH AWAY FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRE. THIS IS ON THE 05 TACOMA CREW CAB 4X4 SHORTBED W/TRD, TOW PKG (OC)OPTIONS. -THIS CAUSES ISSUE THIS COULD CAUSE FLEXING OF THE TIRE DURING NORMAL ON-ROAD AND OFF-ROAD BUMPS CAUSING THE TIRE TO FLEX AND POSSIBLY RUB AGAINST THE SUSPENSION KNUCKLE. THIS SITUATION IS COMPOUNDED IF A TIRE RUNS A LITTLE LOW ON AIR PRESSURE AND COULD CAUSE A PREMATURE CUT TIRE OR BLOWOUT. ANOTHER UNRELATED ITEM--THE NEW 05/06 TACOMA REAR SUSPENSION BOTTOMS OUT TO EASY. DURING A RECENT HUNTING TRIP OCT 05 IN COLORADO. I HAD MY HUNTING GEAR DISTRIBUTED EVENLY IN THE CREW CAB AND THE SHORTBED (APPX 100PDS IN THE BACK SEAT, ONLY MYSELF 220PD IN DRIVER SEAT, AND APPX 400 PDS IN THE TRUCK BED. THE TRUCK BED HAD APPX 275 PDS BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELL AND TAILGATE AND OTHER 100-150 MAX IN FRONT OF BED EVENLY DESTROYED. THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT QUITE EASILY ON FAIRLY MINOR RUTS ON DIRT ROADS AND ON HIGHWAY DITCHES THAT WERE ONLY MINOR SLOPED AND SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BOTTOM OUT. THE TRUCK WAS NOT CLOSE TO THE 50% WEIGHT LIMIT AND THE REAR OF THE TRUCK STANDING STILL WAS NOT SAGGING MUCH AT ALL FROM THE WEIGHT. I WAS REALLY SHOCKED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT ON MINOR SLOW SPEED RUTS AND DURING HIGHWAY ROAD HUMPS OR DIPS. THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH MY 95 OR 98 TACOMA UNLESS I HAD 75% PLUS OF THE BED CARRY LIMIT MET. I THINK YOU NEED TO BEEF UP OR RETEST/REDESIGN THE SPRINGS AND/OR SHOCKS TO MEET THE NEW TRUCKS WEIGHT AND LOAD CARRY CAPABILITIES BETTER. BILLY ARMOUR. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AT SPEEDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH. THE FRONT TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE TRYING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP PERSONNEL DETERMINED THE VIBRATION WAS DUE TO DEFECT IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION . THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *NM

OVER NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAS SUSTAINED SEVERAL PAINT CHIPS. THE PAINT HAS BEEN CHIPPED ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE BED, FROM DEBRIS BEING THROWN UP BY THE FRONT TIRES, AND ON THE ROCKER PANELS. TOYOTA OBVIOUSLY THOUGHT OF THE ISSUE BY PLACING A THICKER COAT ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. IT DID NOT WORK. THE REAR SPRINGS ARE ALSO SQUEAKING ALREADY. USUALLY NOT AN ISSUE AS THE BUSHINGS WEAR OUT, BUT A LITTLE CONCERNED AFTER ONLY 4600 MILES HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE VEHICLE. *NM

JUST BOUGHT 2005 TACOMA PRERUNNER DOUBLE CAB 4X2 TRD OFF ROAD VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND REACH SPEED BETWEEN 60 TO 72 MPH THE VEHICLES SWAYS BACK AND FORTH LIKE A PATCH OF WIND IS PUSHING THE VEHICLE OR WHEN PASSING A SEMI TRUCK THE VEHICLE WILL SWAY BACK AND FORTH. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER MECHANIC SAID THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM NOW WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT HIGH SPEEDS. ITS LIKE THE WIND IS BLOWING THE VEHICLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. DON'T KNOW IF TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT I WOULD APPRECIATE IF THIS COULD BE INVESTIGATED AND REPORTED TO TOYOTA FOR A RECALL AND FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A FIX TO THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS AS OF YET. *NM

BACK IN JUNE 2005 I OBSERVED A SIGNIFICANT "RUBBING" NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR WARRANTY REPAIR I WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS BAD. ON OCTOBER 24TH 2005 I RETURNED TO THE DEALER EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR "RUBBING" NOISE AND WAS TOLD ON THIS OCCASION THAT BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT BEARINGS HAD FAILED. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 20 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY MUST BE POORLY MANUFACTURED BEARINGS. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
