I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma ext cab 4x4 v6 to have diagnostic run on it . "EXACT PERFORMANCE " Johnson drive . KCK The differential was shot . However , that was not the final . They did not do full diagnostic . They informed me that my frame was rotted and rusted through and would not last till spring and was a safety hazard. That was Dec. 2024 . The truck has been parked since . Ive had no transportation and can not run right out and buy another truck . I am also not willing to give up the truck either . I have put a lot of hard earned money into this truck believing it to last forever . The motor and train are sound . I do not want to junk the truck . Please , tell me what I can do . Yes . My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

The frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma (VIN: [XXX] ) is severely corroded and compromised. I recently acquired the vehicle and discovered that it was part of a past Toyota recall/program for frame corrosion inspection and replacement. However, it appears the previous owner did not take the vehicle in for the service. The frame now shows advanced rust and structural weakness, which puts my safety and the safety of others at risk. I am concerned that the recall program was not adequately communicated or tracked, and I am requesting that the NHTSA review this issue for potential reopening or expansion of coverage for affected vehicles like mine. The truck's frame has severely rusted. The frame has deteriorated. It is unsafe to drive as the frame is breaking in half. According to Toyota, this was a huge problem with the 2006 Tacoma. They will not fix the frame or offer any solution. My son can not safely drive this vehicle.

This truck is for sale in Oregon with HOLES/RUST on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that after the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for unrelated repairs, the mechanic determined that the rear subframe needed to be replaced. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (Suspension); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000. The VIN was not available.

I will try to give you as concise statement of my complaint as possible, however, I have copies I sent to the manufacturer and others that I'm willing to furnish you if requested. On 3/18/21, I wrote to Toyota's Executive VP , Chief Quality Officer, [XXX], stating my compliance with their notice of 7/9/15, requiring frame inspection, significant perforation not found, therefore they applied CRC corrosion resistant compound to my frame. As NO critical problem was noted, I felt I was good until during a later inspection was performed and rated more attention. On 3/29/21 during my next oil change I noted on a notation on an unusual service bill, typewritten not the usual custom printed type, a notation that I have 2 holes, approx. 3.5" on my frame, use caution if driving". At this time I found there was an open class action suit against Toyota. Toyota advised me that since I had not responded to more than one notification I was not included in the suit. I replied that "I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY SUCH NOTATION". As they did not send receipt requested or certified, I neither could prove sent or not received. I asked for consideration based on that to which, was denied. I have written also to CT Attorney General, CT US Senator, [XXX], with only the Attorney General's office stating Toyota's response was negative. I realize this is a late request, I was not aware of his avenue. I have Certified copies of each request for help, which I am more than happy to copy and send to you if you will try to help me right Toyota's wrong. I'm an 89 year old male just trying to right a wrong I believe done to me. I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA! , If I had, I would not be so persistent. I send my letters CERTIFIED, they should have had to also, could have solved this problem earlier. Please help me, thank you. The frame is rusted so bad. The dealer wouldn’t replace due to the vehicle being registered in Florida as it’s not one of the states affected. But my Toyota came from a Pennsylvania dealer first then shipped to Florida after years of being in Pennsylvania and not having an issue up there. Now I’m stuck with a truck I can’t sell or fix. It’s not right. Where is the quality control on this.

The contact stated upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for front brake repair, she was informed that the front side of the subframe and the passenger's side and the driver's side subframe were severely corroded. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would need to pay for the repair because an unknown Extended Warranty related to the failure had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that his father had taken the vehicle to a dealer to have NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (Suspension) serviced. Upon inspection, his father was informed that the recall could not be performed due to the extensive corrosion on the frame of the vehicle. He was also informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was given an estimate of $16,000 for the repair. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( Ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( Cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in New Concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like.So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on a trailer.

BROKEN REAR LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY: THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN IN TOYOTAS SINCE THE FIRST GENERATION TACOMAS BUT WORSE IN THE SECOND GENERATION. THE LEAF SPRINGS AREN'T PROPERLY EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THE TOWING CAPACITY OUTLINED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND WILL CRACK, FLATTEN, OR BREAK UNDER TOO MUCH WEIGHT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT NEEDED REPLACED ON 11/7/2016. TOYOTA ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE IN 2007 BY RELEASING A TSB STATING THAT THEY'D REPLACE THE SPRINGS ON ANY SECOND-GEN TACOMA STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MINE IN 2006. I HAVE LIVED IN THE SAME LOCATION FOR OVER 25 YEARS.*DT CONSUMER DISCOVERED DEALERSHIP DID PERFORM THE REPAIRS AND WOULD LIKE COMPLAINT TO BE CANCELLED.*JB

THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE LOOKED AT THAT WAY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR FRAMES BROKEN IN HALF. THE WORST DAMAGE ON MINE IS DRIVER'S SIDE UP FRONT THERE IS ALSO RUST NEAR THE REAR MY TRUCK RECENTLY HAD REAR SPRINGS REPLACED ON A RECALL. THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTICED IT THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT, THE FRONT TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASY TO NOTICE THE DAMAGE AT FRONT DIDN'T MENTION IT. ALSO SUSPENSION SHOWS EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. COOLING LINES CORRODED. POWER STEERING LINES CORRODED. TRANSMISSION LINES CORRODED. ANY METAL LINE IS THAT'S ATTACHED TO THIS VEHICLE ARE CORRODED. AND ALL BRACKETS AND HARDWARE ATTACHED TO FRAME AND EVEN THE METAL PULLEYS ALL EXCESSIVELY CORRODED.

THIS VEHICLE IS COVERED IN THE TOYOTA RUSTY FRAME LAWSUIT. AS SUCH, IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND DEEMED NOT TO NEED A FRAME REPLACEMENT BOTH TIMES. IT WAS TREATED WITH CRC. ITS LAST INSPECTION WAS IN NOVEMBER OF 2018. ON SUNDAY, MAY 17TH, 2020, THE FRAME BROKE AT THE FRONT CROSS-MEMBER CAUSING THE LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM TO SEPARATE AND STEERING THE VEHICLE/CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE BECAME NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND TURNING LEFT (IN REVERSE AT LOW SPEED) AFTER A FULL 2 WEEKS OF DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIA. THE SUBJECT VEHICLES' REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM CONTAINS LEAF SPRINGS THAT ARE CONSTRUCTED OF EITHER THREE OR FOUR LEAVES. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A LEAF COULD FRACTURE DUE TO STRESS AND CORROSION. IF THIS OCCURS AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE OPERATED, THE BROKEN LEAF COULD MOVE OUT OF POSITION AND CONTACT SURROUNDING COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK. SAFETY RISK: IF THE BROKEN LEAF CONTACTS THE FUEL TANK REPEATEDLY, IT COULD PUNCTURE THE TANK AND CAUSE A FUEL LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. REAR LEAF SPRING, RECALL: 14V-604. ON JULY 10TH OF 2016 I MADE A CALL TO ELK GROVE TOYOTA IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL. THE SERVICE WRITER ASK ME IF MY TRUCK HAD A LEVEL KIT INSTALLED ? I TOLD HIM YES, 2'. HE TOLD ME IT VOIDED THE RECALL. I DID SONE RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY CUSTOMERS HAD THE SAME SITUATION, BUT OTHERS DID NOT. THEIR DEALERSHIP REPLACED AND TOOK CARE OF THE RECALL EVEN WITH A LEVEL KIT INSTALLED. IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE STATES AND COUNTRY. I CALLED AGAIN ON 3/25/19 TO ELK GROVE TOYOTA AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE SAME. MY RECALL IS VOID BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL KIT. THE DEALERSHIP IS IN ELK GROVE, CA. RUSTED FRONT END PASSENGER SIDE COMPONENT BROKE OF THE FRAME DUE TO CORROSION. TOYOTA WARRANTY FOR REPAIR EXPIRED 31 JANUARY 2019 AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA 2 MONTHS LATER AND TOYOTA WILL NOT HONOR REPAIR. VERY DISAPPOINTING ON TOYOTAS END. THE RUSTED FRAME TAKES LONGER THAN 2 MONTHS TO CORRODE. TOYOTA CARE NOT WILLING TO WORK WITH ME AND FIX THERE FAULTY AND VERY UNSAFE PRODUCT!

BUENA PARK TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX THE RECALL ON MY TRUCK. THEY SAY IT BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE ORIGINAL SHOCKS. MY TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FROM BUENA PARK TOYOTA AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE AND I HAVEN'T MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE TRUCK. THE WAY IT SITS NOW IS THE WAY I BOUGHT IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS A CERTIFIED VEHICLE. THE REAR LEAF SPRING HAS HIT THE FUEL TAKE A FEW TIMES AND BOTTOMS OUT ON EVERY LITTLE BUMP (WHICH IS WHAT THE RECALL IS FOR) AND EVERYTHING ON THE REAR SUSPENSION IS EXACTLY THE WAY IT CAME FROM TOYOTA. THEY TOLD ME IF I WANTED TO HAVE THE ITEMS REPLACED I WOULD HAVE TO PUT ALL THE OEM STUFF BACK ON THE VEHICLE BUT THAT'S THE WAY THIS DEALER SOLD IT TO ME.

I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED FROM TOYOTA VIA MAIL OF A RECALL ON MY TRUCK AROUND NOV 2016. I'VE SPENT FROM THEM UNTIL NOW TRYING TO GET CAIN TOYOTA OF NORTH CANTON OHIO TO DO THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PARTS. I ALSO EXPLAINED TO THEM THERE IS AN "ADD A LEAF" ON MY TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS LIFTED 3". I SAID I'M NOT PAYING FOR ANYTHING HERE THIS IS A FULL RECALL UNDER TOYOTA. WE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR JULY 7TH AT 7:30AM. I GET THERE AND THEY REFUSE TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT ME PAYING DUE TO THE "ADD A LEAF". THEY HAVE WASTED 9 MONTHS WITH THIS AS MYSELF, MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN RIDE IN THIS TRUCK EVERYDAY! I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW CAIN TOYOTA HAS HANDLED THIS ISSUE. WE ARE NOW AT RISK DUE TO CAINS REFUSAL TO REPAIR THIS AT TOYOTA'S RECALL EXPENSES. THEY RECOMMENDED COATING THE FRAME WITH COMPOUNDS. I FEEL THAT MY TRUCK MAY NOT HAVE PERFORATIONS, BUT IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE FRAME BECOMES PERFORATED, RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS / UNSAFE VEHICLE. PUTTING THE COMPUNDS ON THE FRAME IS A QUICK BAND-AID AND DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS FRAME WILL BECOME UNSAFE, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. ON 3/14/2013 I NOTICED A NOISE THAT SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION OF MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC, WHO UPON INSPECTION NOTED THAT BOTH REAR LEAF SPRINGS WERE BROKEN.(SEE DOCUMENT) I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ON 3/22/2013. ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2014 THE NHTSA ANNOUNCED THE RECALL OF MY VEHICLE FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS(RECALL ID 14V604) SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET REIMBURSED BY TOYOTA FOR THE REPAIRS THAT I HAD COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE RECALL. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO SEND MORE DOCUMENTATION. I'VE ATTACHED THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS I HAVE SENT THEM, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL INVOICE FOR DIAGNOSIS, THE REPAIR AND A LETTER FROM MY MECHANIC ON LETTERHEAD SUPPORTING THOSE DOCUMENTS. AT ONE POINT IN DECEMBER 2015, THEY TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE I WAS SPEAKING WITH, ACTUALLY CALLED THE MECHANIC TO GET VERBAL SUPPORT OF THESE DOCUMENTS. IN DECEMBER, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA STATING THAT THE REMEDY WOULD BE PROVIDED IN EARLY 2016. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT ONCE THE REMEDY WAS PROVIDED I COULD THEN RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR. YESTERDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2016, I WAS CHECKING THE STATUS OF THE RECALL ON MY TRUCK ON TOYOTA.COM AND IT STATED THAT "THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AT THIS TIME" I CONTACTED TOYOTA AGAIN AND THEY STATED THAT I DID NOT SEND THE PROPER PAPERWORK AND THAT I HAD TO PROVE MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL. I'VE ATTACHED THE REPAIR ORDER AND LETTER FROM MY MECHANIC AS WELL AS A COPY OF THE RECALL NOTIFICATION AND A LOOK-UP FROM THE TOYOTA SITE THAT SHOWS MY VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. WELL THE SPRAY DID NOT WORK AND THE FRAME STILL ROTTED SO WHY ARE THEY NOT BEING FORCE TO FIX THE FAULTY FRAME THAT THEY KNEW WAS A PROBLEM SINCE THEY HAVE HAD THIS COME UP IN THE PAST. I TOOK MY TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 TO RICE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO CHECK VEHICLE FRAME AND LEAF SPRINGS BECAUSE OF A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS THEN CONTACTED AND TOLD MY VEHICLE HAD SEVERE AMOUNT NON STANDARD RUST BUT PASSED THE TOYOTA ASSESSMENT FOR REPLACEMENT. UPON ARRIVAL TO MY HOUSE, I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE MYSELF AND FOUND IT TO HAVE AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE FRAME. I THEN FOLLOWED UP WITH RICE AND HAD THEM DO A FOLLOW UP INSPECTION ON THE FRAME AT THEIR COLLISION CENTER. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THEY HAD TAKEN PICTURES OF THE FRAME AND THAT THEIR WERE HIGH QUANTITIES OF RUST AND CORROSION THAT WERE WAY ABOVE THE NORMAL EXPECTATION OF WEAR FOR THE VEHICLES MILEAGE AND AGE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FRAMES OF THESE VEHICLES WOULD MOST LIKELY RUST THROUGH IN A FEW YEARS AND BE A HAZARD. I THEN CONTACTED THE WARRANTY PERSONNEL AT TOYOTA. I SPOKE WITH TWO INDIVIDUALS AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD NO RECOURSE FOR ANY REPAIR AND THAT I WAS JUST OUT OF LUCK EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS PART OF A RECALL FOR LEAF SPRINGS AND CORROSION OF THE FRAME. I HAVE TALKED TO MECHANIC AND HEAD OF SERVICE AT LOCAL DEALER, [XXX] AND [XXX] FROM ERNIE PALMER TOYOTA, [XXX], [XXX] AND [XXX] FROM TOYOTA CORP HQ, [XXX] CASE MANAGER CALLED ME TODAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE RECALLED SPRINGS ON MY TRUCK HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED EVEN THOUGH THEIR RECALL LETTER PLAINLY STATES THAT IF YOUR VEHICLE IS CLUNKING AND BANGING FROM THE REAR END GET TO A DEALER IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIR BECAUSE THEY COULD PUNCTURE MY FUEL TANK CAUSING FIRE. IF THEY FAIL DRIVING IT COULD CAUSE ALOT MORE THAN A FIRE. THIS IS A KNOWN FRAME RUSTING PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED PROPERLY. I TOOK MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TO THE SERVICE DEALER AND THEY SPRAYED AN ANTI RUST COMPOUND ON IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT AND IS GOING TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE LATER DOWN THE ROAD. TOYOTA REACHED A SETTLEMENT WITH THE FRAME MANUFACTURER, THEY DID NOT PROPERLY COAT THE FRAME AT TIME OF MANUFACTURE. THERE IS NOT A WARRANTY ON THE CORROSION COMPOUND AFTER THE CORROSION CAMPAIGN IS OVER IN MARCH OF 2016. THIS LEAVES THE CONSUMER WITH A TRUCK THAT IS NOT ROAD WORTHY. I REPLACED THE RELEASE BEARING IN MY TRANSMISSION, WHILE WORKING ON IT RUST WAS LITERALLY FALLING IN MY EYES DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME RUST OUT SO QUICKLY AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT IS COVERING IT UP WITH A THICK TAR LIKE SUBSTANCE TO "REMEDY" THE PROBLEM. THIS IS JUST COVERING UP A DOWN THE ROAD SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY BY REPLACING THE FRAME. 1995 THROUGH 2000 TACOMA TRUCKS WERE BOUGHT BACK. 2001 THROUGH 2004 RECEIVED ANTI CORROSION COMPOUND AND OR FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT THOSE TRUCKS THAT RECEIVED THE COMPOUND RECEIVED A 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY IF THE FRAME WERE TO FAIL INSPECTION DOWN THE ROAD. NOT THE CASE WITH THE 2005 AND UP TACOMAS. *TR

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER, PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER EIGHT YEARS AGO. IN LESS THAN SIX YEARS, THE CARS FRAME STARTED SHOWING DAMAGES AND TODAY IT SHOWS SEVERE RUST AND FLAKING. THE SEVERE RUST UNDER THE CAR IS WIDESPREAD AND IN CERTAIN AREAS THERE ARE PERFORATIONS THROUGH THE FRAME STRUCTURE. (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED). BECAUSE OF THIS UNEXPECTED CONDITION MY TACOMA HAS LOST CONSIDERABLE RESALE VALUE AND IS RESTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR FEAR OF FURTHER DAMAGE AND SAFETY ISSUES. (I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN). THE TOYOTA DEALER REPORT STATES AS FOLLOWS: ?FRAME WAS FOUND TO HAVE SEVERE CORROSION. FRAME NEED TO BE REPLACED? WITH AND ROUGH ESTIMATE COST OF $ 10,000.00. I CONSIDER THIS DEFECT TO BE A SERIOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION FOR A 8 YEAR-OLD VEHICLE WITH TOYOTA?S REPUTATION. I HAVE INVESTED AND TRUSTED THE TOYOTA BRAND FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND FEEL VERY DISAPPOINTED AT HOW TOYOTA IS ADDRESSING MY CONCERNS. RETURNING HOME WITH MY GRANDSON FROM VISITING A STATE UNIVERSITY I HEAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT A RUBBER BUSHING HAD FAILED BECAUSE PREVIOUS MODELS OF TOYOTAS (TERCELS) MADE THE SAME SOUND WHEN THE TORSION BAR BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPON RETURNING HOME I FOUND THE SWAY BAR HAD COME OUT OF THE LEFT BRACKET WHICH SECURES IT TO THE FRAME AND WAS STRIKING THE FRONT LEFT SPRING OF THE SPRING AND SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY. THE SWAY BAR BRACKET HAD BENT UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE SWAY BAR BECAUSE THE FRAME HAD RUSTED OUT WHERE THE REAR SWAY BAY BRACKET MOUNTING BOLT CONNECTS TO THE FRAME. THERE IS NO FRAME MATERIAL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME TO REATTACH THE SWAY BAR BRACKET.THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT. LOOKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME IT HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. I DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME ON MY TOYOTA TRUCK IS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED. IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE UNBELIEVABLE WHEN YOU COMPARE THE FRAME TO EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK. EVERY OTHER COMPONENT ON THE UNDERSIDE IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION BUT THERE IS HARDLY AN AREA OF THE FRAME THAT IS NOT RUSTED. THERE ARE SOME AREAS THAT HAVE THE CLASSIC "POTATO CHIP" SCALING THAT HAS EATEN THROUGH ABOUT 1/2 THE ORIGINAL THICKNESS OF THE METAL. THE RUST APPEARS ON BOTH FLAT SURFACES AND WELDS. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THERE SEEMS TO BE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS---MANY ARE EVEN NEWER, LOW MILEAGE SUNBELT TRUCKS. I GUESS IT'S OBVIOUS TOYOTA NEVER ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THEIR FRAME ISSUES THAT PROMPTED THE PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE 95-04 MODELS. I SURMISE THAT ROOT CAUSE IS USING CHEAP, INFERIOR, RECYCLED METAL TO SAVE MONEY. BTW, MY PREVIOUS TRUCK WAS A 1990 TOYOTA THAT I DROVE UNTIL THE BODY FELL OFF IN 2009. AFTER 19 YEARS (THAT'S 19 PENNSYLVANIA WINTERS), THAT FRAME WAS SPOTLESS WITH MOST OF THE ORIGINAL PAINT STILL REMAINING. IN EVERY OTHER RESPECT, I LOVE THIS TRUCK. PREVIOUS REPLACEMENT PROGRAM COVERED TACOMAS MADE FROM 1998-2004 THAT EXHIBITED THE SAME ISSUES, PREMATURE RUSTING/CORROSION OF THE TRUCKS' FAMES. MY LIMITED RESEARCH HAS SHOWN NUMEROUS CASES WHERE THE FRAMES OF THE TRUCK CORRODES TO THE POINT THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IN OCTOBER OF 2012 I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA FROM INTERSTATE TOYOTA IN AIRMONT, NY. THE VEHICLE HAD 79,000 MILES ON IT, HAD AND HAD PASSED THE TOYOTA 160 POINT / CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED INSPECTION. PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE I ASKED ABOUT MISSING REAR WHEEL MOLDING, NON FUNCTIONING OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND WHAT LOOKED LIKE RUST ON THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO THEIR SHOP AND PUT ON A LIFT. THE MOLDING WAS REPAIRED, THE GUAGE ORDERED AND SHIPPED TO MY HOME, AND I WAS ASSURED BY MY SALESMAN, JUSTIN GOETZ, THAT THE RUST WAS MERELY SURFACE RUST, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T HAVE PASSED THE 160 POINT INSPECTION HAD IT BEEN MORE THEN JUST SIMPLE SURFACE RUST. I WAS HAPPY WITH MY TRUCK AND PURCHASED IT WITH THEIR PLATINUM WARRANTY COVERAGE USING TOYOTA FINANCIAL. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO THE A/C STOPPED WORKING. I GOT AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, SHORE TOYOTA, IN PLEASANTVILLE NJ TO HAVE IT FIXED. SHORE TOYOTA REPLACED THE A/C CLUTCH (COVERED UNDER WARRANTY), AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT "THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AND TAKEN OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY AS THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE!!" I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED OUT WITH PERFERATIONS HOLES ON THE LEFT & RIGHT SIDE RAILS. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THIS VEHICLE COULD HAVE PASSED A 160 POINT INSPECTION BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER THEN 8 TO 9 MONTHS FOR SO MUCH ROT TO OCCUR. I WAS FLOORED!! I JUST WANTED MY A/C FIXED. I NEVER COULD HAVE IMAGINED THAT MY $20,000+ TRUCK WAS A JUNKER.....THAT I'D BEEN HAD. TOYOTA CORP SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT AT THIS TIME. I WISH I COULD INCLUDE THE PICS I HAVE OF THE FRAME.

DURING SOME UNDER BODY INSPECTIONS PRIOR TO PERFORMING SOME BRAKE REPAIR, I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE FRAME IN FRONT OF THE SHOCK MOUNT. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED A PERFORATION AND CRACK ACROSS BOTTOM PORTION OF C-CHANNEL IN FRAME. THE DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND CLAIMED THE CRACK WAS DUE TO SEVERE OFFROADING, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT. I ASKED THEM TO PROVE THAT THEORY AND THEY COULD NOT. THEY WOULD ONLY PROVIDE A REFERENCE NUMBER AND THAT I COULD CONTACT THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A 6-ISH YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE DRIVEN. *TR

DESPITE WASHING, SCRAPING/WIRE BRUSHING, SPOT PRIMING AND PAINTING THE TRUCK FRAME ONCE PER YEAR, THE FRAME FROM JUST IN FRONT OF THE AXEL, ALL THE WAY FORWARD, BOTH SIDES, IS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE FRONT CROSS PIECE IS TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED. THE "INCIDENT" IS THAT THE CORROSION IS SO BAD THAT THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR MOUNT, DRIVER'S SIDE, HAS TORN AWAY FROM THE FRAME. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWS THAT THE FRAME IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA NEEDS TOTAL REPLACEMENT/EXTENSIVE REPAIR. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME FRAME CORROSION PROBLEM SUPPOSEDLY ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA IN THE 1990 TO 2004 VEHICLES. BUT TOYOTA IS NOT ISSUING RECALLS OR "CUSTOMER PROGRAMS" FOR 2005 TACOMA'S AND NEWER. SINCE THE BOX SECTIONED FRAME RUSTS FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM IS NOT APPARENT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE - WHEN A CATASTROPHIC FRAME FAILURE CAN HAPPEN - AS WITH THE FAILURE OF MY STABILIZER BAR. IN 09 NOTICED MY 3YEAR OLD TRUCKS FRAME WAS RUSTING ON THE FRAME. RUST WAS TO THE POINT THAT FRAME WAS SWELLING AND FLAKES OF METAL WERE FALLING OFF TO THE TOUCH. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND RECOMMENDED SANDING RUSTPROOFING AND PAINT. I RECENTLY HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE FAN HITTING THE SHROUD ON MY 2006 TACOMA. I TOOK MY TACOMA INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS CRACKED AROUND THE WELD WHERE THE DRIVERS' SIDE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKET WAS WELDED TO THE FRAME. THE BRACKET HAS STARTED SINKING INTO THE FRAME WHICH COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO CONSUMERS LEADING TO VEHICLE ACCIDENTS ETC. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH AND HAVE HEARD OF THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENING WITH 2005 & 2006 TACOMAS FROM NUMEROUS OTHER TACOMA OWNERS. THE WELDS AROUND THE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKETS ARE WEAK. THESE SHOULD BE ONE OF THE STRONGEST WELDS ON THE TRUCK. TOYOTA ADVERTISES THEIR TRUCKS FOR OFF ROAD USE YET THEY BARELY HOLD UP TO NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING. 4. MY REAR END WAS CONSTANTLY BOTTOMING OUT AND AS A RESULT IT CREATED A PRETTY HARSH RIDE. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? WELL, EVERY TIME I CARRIED A FULL LOAD OF PASSENGERS / TOWED OUR 19' BOAT, / OR HAULED MATERIAL IN THE BED IT WILL BOTTOM OUT. THE SLIGHTEST DIP OR SPEED BUMP EVEN AT 10MPH IS FELT. DO I FEEL IT WHEN I'M BY MYSELF AND THE BED IS EMPTY, AND THERE ARE NO OTHER PASSENGERS? YES, BUT AT HIGHER SPEEDS. DO I EVER OFF-ROAD MY VEHICLE? NO. \ WELL, TYPICALLY IN THE PRE 35 THOUSAND MILES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY TOYOTAS PAPER WORK WOULD CONSTANTLY STATE THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THE SECOND TIME AND A GIRL ANSWERED AND I ASKED ABOUT MAKING AN APPOINTMENT AND I TOLD HER ABOUT THE ISSUE THAT I WAS HAVING, AND SHE RESPONDED, TELLING ME THAT MY TRUCK WAS BEYOND ITS WARRANTY PERIOD. OH, I HAVE 66, THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND PURCHASED IT IN JANUARY OF 06. ANYWAY, SHE GAVE ME AN 800 NUMBER TO SEE IF I WAS ELIGIBLE. WELL, A REQUEST WAS PUT IN FOR ONE OF THE MAIN MECHANICS TO TAKE A RIDE WITH ME TO WITNESS THE PROBLEM. A VERY SHORT RIDE LATER AFTER HAVING HIT A FEW SMALL DIPS AT 10, 20, AND 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN HE BOTH HEARD AND FELT THE BOTTOMING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. HE SUGGESTED THAT WE GO BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER. WE GOT BACK AND THE FIRST THING HE DID WAS LOOK UNDER THE BED AND HE POPPED UP AND STATED THAT THE SPRINGS WERE FLAT ON ONE SIDE AND OFF ON THE OTHER SIDE. WHY DIDN'T EVERYONE ELSE DO THE SAME BEFORE, NOW WHEN IT'S TO MY CONVENIENCE TO HAVE THE ISSUE ADDRESSED, I'M DENIED. I'M DENIED ABOUT AN ISSUE THAT'S BEEN THERE ALL ALONG. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 DBL CAB LONG BED TRD SPORT ($30,867.00 + TAX!) AND HAVE ENJOYED IT FOR JUST OVER A YEAR NOW. IT HAS 29,816 MILES AND HAS HAD ALL SERVICE DONE AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON A PAVED ROAD I WENT OVER A VERY SMALL BUMP, AND THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF MY TRUCK DROPPED ABOUT 3" INCHES CAUSING TIRE TO RUB FENDER. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND COULD SEE THAT THE COIL OVER SHOCK BROKE OFF NEAR THE BOTTOM. I TOOK PHOTOS AND BROUGHT BOTH THE PHOTOS AND TRUCK TO MY LOCAL DEALER. THE 2 SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTER BOTH SAID IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEN THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD THEM THAT I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. I TOLD THEM I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AND IT WENT DOWN WHEN I WENT OVER A VERY SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. NOT A BIG BUMP! HE AGAIN SAID "NO" HE WOULD NOT WARRANTY IT. THIS TOTALLY DROPPED THE FRONT LEFT SIDE DOWN ONTO THE TIRE AND COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AND WAS ASSIGNED REF: 2007 0907 0986 I REALLY LIKE MY TACOMA, BUT IF TOYOTA CONTINUES TO TREAT ME LIKE THIS, I WILL HAVE TO BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND. FRONT SUSPENSION INSTABILITY, I HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES TWO TIMES, AND HAVE REPLACED THE OEM SHOCKS FOR THE BILSTEIN "OEM TRD" BUT THE VEHICLE BEHAVES LIKE THE FRONT SWAY BAR OR THE RACK & PININION ARE LOOSE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER COUNTLESS TIMES BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO NOTICE THE NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS MY PERCEPTION THAT A DESIGN FLAW OR A DEFECTIVE PART OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR RACK & PINION HAVE TO BE CAUSING ALL OF THE INSTABILITY.
