Over time, I have noticed significant paint peeling on multiple areas of the truck, including the roof, hood, and door frames. The paint is deteriorating down to the primer, and in some places, the metal is now exposed. I am aware of Toyota’s Customer Support Program T-SB-0162-19, which extends warranty coverage for similar paint issues on various Toyota models using the same Super White (040) and Blizzard Pearl (070) paints. However, I am disappointed to learn that the Tacoma—despite having identical paint and similar defects—was excluded from the original program. Following an oil change my mechanic expressed concern about the amount of rust and damage from the rust on my vehicle frame. Due to his concern, I set up an evaluation appointment with the Arlington Heights (IL) Toyota dealer. They evaluated, videotaped the inspection which showed several rusted-through spots, and said it looked very serious and unsafe. The dealer then contacted the Toyota corporate office who refused to do anything. I'm the second owner. I have all the paperwork from the original owner who followed the rusty frame protocol properly (take it to the dealer who sprays it with rust preventative or replaces the frame). The frame was sprayed by Toyota while he had it and it did not work. There are now several rusted-through areas in the frame and I fear for the safety of myself and my family if we were involved in a crash and the frame were to collapse.
i have a 2008 toyota tacoma with a heavily rusted frame. been trying to get toyota to replace it but their no HELP many of the crossmember are failing and rotted away and today 3/12/2023 the gas tank support fail and made the gas tank almost fall out while driving at 50 mph. *yes * yes MY SAFELY was and other driver also *NO *i have been trying to get toyota to replace the frame but they are not being helpful
The vehicle frame is rusting through. Two exhaust hangars have rusted from the frame and metal is flaking in large chunks. My mechanic warned me yesterday about this condition and his concern.
This 2008 Toyota Tacoma had a recall because the frames of the vehicles are rotting out. Most Toyota's with this problem had a 15 year recall period. This vehicle had a 12 year recall period. My son Trevor bought this truck in 2020. He had no knowledge of this recall. He recently did his VT state vehicle inspection and was told that the frame is rotting and needs to be replaced. Is there anything that can be done at this point?
Toyota Tacoma has excessive rust throughout the frame and suspension.
My stepdaughter purchased a 2008 Toyota Tacoma a few months ago. During the time of having the vehicle serviced her mechanic pointed out all the rust throughout the frame of the vehicle. I have contacted Toyota Corporate; they refuse for me to open a ticket and to get this safety issue resolved. Not only is the rust on the frame, but it's also evolving the suspension. There is also evidence that this vehicle is from Vermont which would have caused more of a rust issue besides the manufacture forgetting to coat the frame.
Hello, I have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma that I bought new from the dealer in 2008. In 2021, around October, I noticed the frame has rusted. After crawling under the truck, I realized this is bad. There were holes in the frame. One of them, I was able to stick my finger in. This is a dangerous condition and I hope there is a fix for it. My truck is in excellent condition with only 80,000 miles on it. I take very good care of it and hope to get another 250,000 miles out of it. Will Toyota fix it?
Frame has rusted to the point of actually having a hole that I can put my finger through. The truck has only 79000 miles on it and is in excellent shape otherwise. I bought it new from the dealer in 2008. I think this is a potentially dangerous condition but could be repaired via an Toyota recall. My father was a Toyota G.M. and Toyota's are all my family have owned for 30 some years. I hope Toyota will honor the re-call. I went to get my tires rotated and was told that my frame got a crack. I had it inspected by a local Toyota dealer a(Premier Toyota in Amherst, Ohio) in the past and they had decided to coat with some kind of rubbery material. That obviously did not hold up. I parked the truck for now. Toyota should be forced to fix it or buy it back.
On my last vehicle inspection, the mechanic told me that he will fail me next time due to a rotting frame. This is a serious safety hazard. Through my research, this is a common problem with this year truck (2008) and other years. To my knowledge, I was never contacted by Toyota as far as any recall. This truck still looks new and I am very dissapointed with what I read about this so called "Recall" has expired or about to expire in 2023. I would like very much to have this repaired. I don't know how to go about it.
This is my second Tacoma. Both cases I’ve found out too late that the frames are shot. Although before I purchased I had it inspected by Toyota shop to identify any problems including frame rot. First one I bought new second used. Both cases I was told I am out of the recall window. My loyalty to your brand is in question. You’ve recognized a problem and on the surface it appears your taking responsibility for it. Then , atleast in my case, don’t. Disappointed starts to describe my feelings on this matter. If you care to make any concessions and retain a Toyota customer reach out to me.

I HAD TO BRING MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA IN TO GET SERVICED . I RECEIVED A CALL REGARDING THE STATE OF THE FRAME. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE ARE MULTIPLE SPOT ON THE FRAME WITH BAD RUST DAMAGE AND SOME OF THE CROSS MEMBERS ARE MISSING WHERE THEY ATTACH TO THE FRAME AND SAID IT WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. IN 2015 THE TRUCK WAS RESPRAYED TO PROTECT THE FARME WHICH LASTED ABOUT 1 MONTH. AT THIS POINT THE FRAME WILL NOT LAST ANOTHER YEAR.

THERE WAS A FRAME INSPECTION FOR REPAIR NOTICE FOR MY TACOMA FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS. I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WHEN MY FATHER SOLD IT TO ME. HE DID NOT REALIZE THERE A RECALL BECAUSE THEY LOOK LIKE ALL THE OTHER SCAMS THAT PREY ON THE ELDERLY. I WAS SUPPOSED RECEIVED OWNERSHIP OF THIS TRUCK IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR, THEN COVID 19 HIT. I WAS SENT HE FROM WORK AND TOLD I COULDN'T GO FURTHER THAN MY COMMUTING DISTANCE FROM MY GOVERNOR HERE IN MAINE. I FINALLY RECEIVED THE TRUCK ON APRIL BECAUSE MY FATHER LIVES 100 MILES FROM ME. THEN HAD TO WAIT FOR MY TOWN OFFICE TO OPEN IN JUNE TO REGISTER IT. FINALLY BROUGHT IT TO TOYOTA TO GET SOME OTHER RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF ON JUNE AND THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT I HAVE SEPARATION IN MY FRAME. TOO BAD BECAUSE TOYOTA WAS FIXING AND REPLACING SUCH FRAMES BIT IT EXPIRED THE MIDDLE OF APRIL. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO SEE IF THE COULD POSSIBLY EXTEND THE PROGRAM BECAUSE OF COVID 19. I WAITED A COUPLE OF MONTHS MORE AND I WENT BACK TO GREENS TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS EXPIRED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SERVICE MANAGER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE MATERIAL FOR THE JOB WERE NEVER ON BACK ORDER AND HE DIDN'T KNOW WHY I WAS TOLD THAT. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE WAS SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA AND WENT TO A DEALERSHIP ON MAY,16, 2016 AND WAS TOLD I MY LEAF SPRINGS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT, BUT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. I CALLED ONE MONTH LATER AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD "THERE IS NO ETA." REPEATEDLY. I HAVE RECEIVED E-MAILS FROM TOYOTA TO REPEAT THIS PHONE CALL AND WAS TOLD 'THERE IS NO ETA." LAST WEEK I WAS TOLD IN AN E-MAIL TO CONTACT MY DEALERSHIP. LEVEL TWO AGENT PETER AGAIN REFUSED TO REPLACE KNOW DEFECTIVE PARTS OR HONOR RECALL AFTER BEING INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AT BOTH RIVERVIEW TOYOTA. AND EARNHARDT TOYOTA, BOTH IN MESA ARIZONA. BOTH DEALERSHIPS INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE DIRECTED BY THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER TO NOT REPLACE ANY RECALL ITEMS WITHOUT FIRST GETTING APPROVAL REGARDLESS OF THE KNOWN DANGERS TO BOTH PERSON AND PROPERTY, OR THAT THE PART IS BROKEN AND DOES NOT PERFORM TO ACTIONS OF IT'S DESIGN. TOYOTA HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE DAMAGES, SAFETY CONCERNS, AS WELL AS LOST TIME AND COSTS ($993.41IN SERVICE REPAIRS PLUS 5 LOST USE/WORK DAYS TO DATE), YET HAS REFUSED TO HONOR OR ABIDE BY THE REQUIREMENTS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT.

OR THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION BEING ROTTED OUT I WILL CALL MY TOYOTA DEALER AND SEE WHAT THE REPAIR IS AND THE COST OF THE REPAIR FOLLOWING THAT I WILL FORWARD THIS TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, AND MY LOCAL GOVERMENT OFFICIALS

AFTER THREE WEEKS, THE TRUCK WONT START AGAIN, AND SENT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO REPLICATE THE SITUATION. AGAIN THE TRUCK WAS GIVEN A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH. THE DEALER KEEP SHOWING ME TAPE RESULT OF TEST ON THE BATTERY, ACCEPTING THE CHARGE, THE ALTERNATOR AND CHARGING AMPS OUTPUT. THE DEALER ELIMINATED ANY PARASITIC DEVICE THAT EATS MORE POWER OR WAKES UP WHEN A DEVICE ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SLEEPING. I NEED HELP.

WE RECEIVED OUR NOTICE OF A RECALL FROM TOYOTA MID TO LATE NOVEMBER 2014. I HAVE CALLED FITZGERALD TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES, AND ALSO HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH PERSONNEL FROM TOYOTA IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, INFORMING THEM OF OUR SITUATION - BEING BOTH LEAF SPRINGS BROKEN/NOT FUNCTIONAL. IN FEBRUARY OF 2015, I TALKED WITH THE CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF TOYOTA ASKING WHEN THE LEAF SPRINGS WOULD BE AVAILABLE, AS WE ARE FEARFUL OF IT DOING MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO FIX THEM PROBLEM, HOWEVER, TO DATE - APRIL 2015...NO LEAF SPRINGS ARE AVAILABLE. CALIFORNIA CALLED FITZGERALD TOYOTA TO HAVE THEM DO A SHORT TERM REMEDY BY PLACING AN 'OLD SET' OF LEAF SPRINGS ON THE TRUCK, AND WHEN THE REMEDIED SPRINGS WERE AVAILABLE, THEY COULD BE REPLACED. I NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUST FORMING IN INNER WHEEL HOUSING NEAR BOLTS HOLDING WHEEL SPRINGS. LOOKING FURTHER SHOWED EXCESSIVE RUST FORMING ON OTHER SHEET METAL WHICH WAS PROTECTED FROM THE WEATHER. I DID NOTHING UNTIL I RECEIVED THE RECALL ABOUT RUST PROBLEMS ON THE TRUCK FRAME. WHEN I SPOKE TO TOYOTA ABOUT THE SHEET METAL RUST, THEY REFUSED TO CONSIDER IT SAYING THE RECALL ONLY COVERED THE FRAME. A CALL TO NATIONAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA'S PROBLEM WITH APPLYING RUST PREVENTION IS MORE EXTENSIVE THAN JUST THE FRAME AND AFFECTS NEARLY ALL OF THE SHEET METAL ON THE TRUCK. REFERENCING MY 2008 4.0L SIX-CYLINDER TOYOTA TACOMA WITH DEMAND 4X4, 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND TRD SPORT PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES A LIMITED SLIP REAR DIFFERENTIAL, I EXPERIENCED AN UNANTICIPATED UNEXPLAINABLE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. NOTE THAT THE TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE A USER CONTROLLABLE TORQUE LIMITING OR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOWLY TRAVERSE A GRASSY SURFACE WHILE IN TWO-WHEEL DRIVE THE VEHICLE INVOLUNTARILY CAME TO A STANDSTILL. THE ENGINE HAD LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO MOVE. THE REAR WHEELS DID NOT SUFFER ANY LOSS OF TRACTION IN OTHER WORDS THEY DID NOT LOSE TRACTION AND SPIN AND COULD NOT BE MADE TO SPIN. APPLYING FULL THROTTLE DID NOT HELP; ALTHOUGH NOT MISFIRING WHILE RUNNING SMOOTHLY, THE ENGINE LACKED MEANINGFUL POWER AND WOULD NOT GAIN ANY SIGNIFICANT RPMS UNDER ANY THROTTLE POSITION. THERE WERE NO ABNORMAL GAUGE READINGS OR INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT WORKING THE TRUCK FREE BY GOING FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT ONTO PAVEMENT BUT, WHILE ON THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT A GROSS LOSS OF POWER AND HAD DIFFICULTY ATTAINING EVEN 40 MPH. AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES DOWN THE ROAD, THE FAULT EVENTUALLY CLEARED AND THE ENGINE RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL ENERGETIC SELF. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE'S PERFORMANCE RETURNED TO NORMAL (AND IT WAS SUNDAY) IT WAS NOT TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. ON ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I CONNECTED A OBD2 DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO THE VEHICLE BUT NO TROUBLE CODE WAS INDICATED. (THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF WATER IN THE VEHICLE'S GASOLINE AND THE GASOLINE WAS FRESH AND OF PROPER OCTANE; THE ENGINE OR IGNITION SYSTEM WERE NOT WET. NO POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THE POWER LOSS WERE OBSERVED.) AN UNEXPLAINED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER IN A MOVING VEHICLE CAN PROVE DISASTROUS IF NOT DANGEROUS. DRIVING MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER (ODOMETER 12226). RETURNED FROM SHORT TRIP TO VISIT FRIEND (APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES AWAY). TURNED TO PULL INTO DOUBLE GARAGE. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS IN LOWER GEAR 2 OR 3. BRAKED APPROPRIATELY TO STOP IN GARAGE. STARTED TO SHIFT TOWARDS PARK. ENGINE REV'D UP TO VERY HIGH RPM. REAR TIRES STARTED SPINNING FORWARD. VEHICLE STARTED MOVING FORWARD AGAINST BRAKES. APPLIED HEAVY BRAKES. ENGINE WAS STILL RACING. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, IMPACTING STORAGE CABINETS AGAINST WALL. ALL THIS OCCURRED IN 2-3 SECONDS. NO TIME TO REACT. RELATIVELY SLOW IMPACT (DUE TO BRAKES). FINALLY SHUT OFF ENGINE WITH KEY, BUT TOO LATE. . DAMAGE TO GARAGE WALL AND FRONT OF VEHICLE. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. RESTARTED ENGINE LATER, AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM IN DRIVEWAY. HAD VEHICLE CHECKED BY NEAREST DEALER NEXT DAY. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. THEY HAD HEARD OF VERY FEW SIMILAR PROBLEMS. TECHNICIAN SAID ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STICKING SLIGHTLY... DEPENDING ON WHERE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED ON PEDAL. THIS WAS NOT LIKELY CAUSE BECAUSE FOOT WAS OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND ENGINE IDLING AT LOW RPM BEFORE PROBLEM OCCURRED. TECHNICIAN ATTEMPTED TO DOWNLOAD PROGRAM UPDATE WHICH (I THINK) WOULD HAVE ELIMINATED AN 'INCREASED RPM TO BURN OFF EXCESS WASTE IN CATALYTIC CONVERTER'... BUT DID NOT DOWNLOAD BECAUSE THIS FIX WAS ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH SUPER CHARGER. DEALER COULD NOT FIND SIMILAR PROBLEM IN THEIR DATABASE... BUT THEY'LL KEEP CHECKING. FLOOR JACK, WHEN CHANGING A DAMAGED MUD FLAP FROM THE THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE TRUCK, I PLACED THE FLOOR JACK WHERE THE TOYOTA MANUAL RECOMMENDS, AFTER THE WHOLE (1/4IN LESS THAN WHOLE) EXTENSION OF THE JACK WAS APPLIED THE TIRE WAS BARELY LIFTED ABOVE GROUND, THIS WAS DONE ON MY HOMES DRIVE WAY A TOTALLY FLAT AREA WITH NO INCLINATION ANYWAY AND ALL PROPER SECURITY PUT IN PLACE AND THE FLOOR JACK WAS INCLINED...
