My 2010 Toyota Tacoma frame is rusted and deteriorated. This has been confirmed by my local Toyota dealership (Ira Toyota of Saco , ME) The vehicle has approximately 130,000 miles and is in otherwise good working order. I do not expect a 15 year old Toyota to have a rusted frame, which has become entirely unsafe. Indeed, the Toyota dealership refused to even put the truck up on the lift given the unsafe condition of the frame . I understand that 2005 -2010 Tacoma trucks had this same issue and there was a class action on 21 May 2017. I also understand that the frame recall expired in 2022. Regardless, I contacted Toyota asking if they would still replace the frame and they responded in the negative. I have attached photos of the frame and a copy of Toyota’s response. Please advise. Thank you.
The frame on my 2010 Toyota Tacoma has developed severe perforation and rust-through. There are large holes in the frame, and the exhaust hanger has broken completely off the frame rail. The corrosion is spreading across multiple points, making the vehicle unsafe and at risk of structural failure while driving. I purchased the truck in May 2020 and brought it to a Toyota dealer for a paid multi-point inspection that included the undercarriage. At that time, Toyota’s ZH6 frame corrosion program was still active. No frame concerns were reported, and the program was never disclosed to me. Toyota has since denied assistance, even though the condition now represents a clear safety hazard. This frame corrosion is not cosmetic. It is structural and has already caused parts of the vehicle to detach.
2010 Toyota Tacoma frame is rusting and deteriorating. vin [XXX] . Lou Fusz Toyota [XXX] on [XXX]. 138,748 miles. This vehicle is in good condition except for frame. at 15 year I would not expect a frame to rust and cause a possible dangerous situation. My local shop, GT's Auto, pointed out this frame deterioration during an oil change on [XXX]. The dealership agreed that this will become dangerous soon. I understand that 2005 -2010 Tacoma trucks had this same issue and a Class action on 21 May 2017. Please advise. Thank you. Truck will not pass inspection due to frame is rusted through. 76000 miles on vehicle. Toyota dealer refused to inspect. Mechanic refused to put vehicle on lift for other repairs.
Was never notified of Class Action suit for rusted frame and replacement. Frame is swiss cheese on a vehicle that has 37,500 miles on it. The body is perfect but the frame is unsafe, did not pass inspection and unrepairable other than a frame replacement. I'm sure there are more of us out there. They performed "rust prevention" but there is no indication of rust. They inspected within 12 years of purchase date but did not replace. There is no way that this extent of rust happened in 2 years.
Frame is totally rusted out and crumbling. Unrepairable. There was a class action suit for this to be replaced, a recall to be replaced for years 2005-2010. The vehicle's body is in excellent condition, mechanically very sound but dangerous and could collapse within a few months.
the gas gauge on the dashboard does not work properly
FRAME ROT/HOLES
I was trying to sell my vehicle as private party but I kept being asked, by the potential buyers, if the frame of this vehicle was replaced under a manufacturer recall. Not knowing the right answer I asked a local dealer to verify if a frame recall was performed on my truck and the answer was NO. I bought this truck in Aug. 2018 from a used car dealer which sold me the vehicle AS IS but he didn't inform me that there was an active recall, then ultimately I contacted the manufacturer which told me that the recall was closed in July 2020. Apparently dealers cannot sell vehicles under active recalls unless they are addressed but I was sold one. In all this I've never have been contacted by the manufacturer/dealer to inform me of the recall, also I drove an unsafe vehicle for 5 years without knowing that in case of an accident, serious consequences could have occurred. As of now the vehicle is not on the road. Who would be the responsible party in this issue? Who should take action to address this? Thank you for your help!
Frame has multiple holes in it up front near the cab mounts, dealer told me it doesn’t qualify for a new one or the frame recall that was sent out once even tho google says 15 years after manufacture date, 2010 and it’s not 2025 so I should still qualify. The frame damage was found upon a yearly state inspection so I’m not sure how it passed the first time.
My frame is completely rusted and I cant get the vehicle through inspection.
My vehicle, which has been inspected at my local Toyota dealership, has significant rust corrosion, with perforation through the frame in several areas. I was told by the service manager that Toyota had sent out letters to owners (not a recall) to bring their vehicles in for inspection for this problem and that they would repair or replace the frame. I had not received any correspondence about this issue and have been told that this program expired in September of 2021,which now leaves me with the financial liability of replacing or repairing, which I have been told would cost between 14-20 thousand. I have contacted "The Toyota Brand engagement center" case#221121001445, and they confirm they cannot and will not do anything for me. Please let me know what possible recourse I have in resolving this issue. Thank You!! Bruce Beeman 122 Ridgewood Acres Thomaston Connecticut 06787 (860) 283-8916
My mechanic found excessive premature rusting to my truck's under carriage/frame. He suggested that I contact Toyota to see what could be done about this condition. Having never received a notice of recall I searched for recall information and called Toyota's "Brand Engage3ment Advocate". I found out that the recall for the frame expired 6 months ago. This is intolerable since the truck I own now was a replacement for a truck that had premature rusting of the frame. I thought surely that Toyota would have addressed this issue in my 2010 Tacoma and I was unaware that it would be a problem. Toyota Brand Engagement Center filed a case number for me (not really helpful to me) which is 221017000168.
FRAME on Truck is rusting ; Hole in Frame
I jacked the truck up, following the directions in the owners manual and the jack went right through the frame of the truck. Upon further inspection, the frame was seen to be flaking and crumbling apart. I looked into recalls and found that Toyota settled this situation on 2006-2008 and some 2010 Tacomas. Obviously my 2010 Tacoma is one of the defective ones.
DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR KEEPS FLOPPING DOWN INTO MY VISION, ANY FIXES I TRY DON'T WORK FOR LONG $800. EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS IS OUT OF THE QUESTION
THE SIDEWALLS ON ALL 4 TIRES HAVE SPIDERWEB CRACKS. SOME OF THESE CRACKS ARE MAKING THEIR WAY TO THE TREAD. THE TIRES ARE MICHELIN LTX245/75R16 LRE PURCHASED @ COSTCO 9/06/13, ALL HAVE 9/32S TREAD, AND HAVE BEEN DRIVEN 36,000 MILES. CALLED MICHELIN AND WAS TOLD TO GO TO SEARS FOR AN INSPECTION. SEARS CALLED MICHELIN. I WAS OFFERED 4 NEW TIRES (A GOOD WILL GESTURE) FOR $772.56. THAT IS TWICE AS MUCH I PAID FOR TIRE I'M DRIVING ON NOW. I THINK THAT IF I KEEP DRIVING ON THESE TIRES (THERE IS LOTS OF TREAD LEFT) THE TIRE WILL BLOW -OUT. WE WERE PART OF THE FIRESTONE RECALL IN 1999. I WAS OLD THAT THE CRACKING IS COMMON IN MICHELIN....THAT DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT.

FRAME RUST. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED IN A COLD WEATHER STATE AND WAS OPERATED IN A COLD WEATHER STATE FOR 7 YEARS BEFORE IT WAS REGISTERED IN A NON COLD WEATHER STATE. FRAME HAS EXCESSIVE RUST AND HAS BEEN INSPECTED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE FRAME 'PASSES.' SINCE THE TRUCK IS NOW NOT IN A COLD WEATHER STATE IT SEEMS TO BE OKAY AND THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM YET SERVICE ADVISORS SAY THEY WOULDN'T WANT THEIR FRAME TO LOOK LIKE THAT AND URGED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE YET THAT IS A DEAD END WITH ABSOLUTELY NO FIX TO MY FRAME. I ALSO RAN INTO A PROBLEM WHEN I WENT TO TRADE IT IN AND THE SALES MEN AT THE DEALER MENTIONED THE FRAME RUST. IT'S NOT A PROBLEM WHEN I OWN THE VEHICLE BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN BECOMES A PROBLEM/ISSUE IF I WANT TO TRADE IT IN. THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. FURTHERMORE, THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN KENTUCKY THAT REPLACED MY REAR LEAF SPRINGS FOR A RECALL WERE THE ONES THAT CONTACTED ME REGARDING THE FRAME WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT AND THE LADY SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA WILL PUT A CORROSION COMPOUND ON THE FRAME TO 'PROTECT' IT. EVIDENTLY RUST GETS BETTER WITH AGE AND I HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT BUT I KNOW PEOPLE HAVE KNOWN HOW NEGLIGENT TOYOTA HAS BEEN WITH RUST PREVENTION ON THEIR FRAMES IN PREVIOUS YEAR TACOMAS. PLEASE HELP ME GET MY TRUCK FIXED ALONG WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
ON 1/2/18 I WAS DRIVING INTO A PARKING LOT GOING SLOW GETTING READY TO PUT MY TRUCK INTO REVERSE TO BACK UP INTO A SPOT WHEN SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION TOOK PLACE. MY TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING FORWARD WITH MY RIGHT FOOT PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE BRAKE MY TRUCK CONTINUED TO REV UP AND JUMP FORWARD WITH TIRES RUBBER BURNING DUE TO ME HAVING MY FOOT ON BREAK TRYING TO STOP THE TRUCK. I MISSED HITTING A CAR BARELY AND STILL NOT SURE HOW I MISSED IT. MY FOOT WAS CLEARLY ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME AND FINALLY I PUT MY TRUCK IN PARK AND THE TRUCK CAME TO A STOP, SINCE I WAS NOT GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY. I REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND GOT NO WHERE. I HAVE NO FLOOR MAT IN MY TRUCK SO CANT BLAME IT ON FLOOR MAT. THEY ARE CLAIMING IT WAS MISAPPLICATION OF PEDAL. THIS IS A TOTAL LIE. I WOULD OF HIT THAT CAR HAD MY FOOT BEEN ON WRONG PEDAL. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE SO HARD AND PUTTING IN PARK STOPPED THE TRUCK. AGAIN COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV AS IF STUCK IN ACCELERATION AND MY TIRES BURNING RUBBER AS I CONTINUED TO ENGAGE BRAKE AND TRUCK WAS JUMPING FORWARD. TOYOTA HAS OPENED A CASE BUT AGAIN REFUSE TO ADMIT TO ANY PROBLEM BLAMING IT ON MISAPPLICATION OF PEDAL. KERRY TOYOTA FLORENCE KY INSISTS THEY DID INSPECTION BUT REFUSE TO SHOW ME ANY RESULTS FROM INSPECTION JUST SAY THEY INSPECTED PEDAL AND FLOOR MAT, WHICH THERE IS NO FLOOR MAT. I AM NOT CONVINCED THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT. TOYOTA CORPORATION AGAIN AWARE OF OTHER CASES BUT STILL REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM. I AM SCARED NOW DRIVING WONDERING WHEN OR IF WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WITH THE DRIVER'S WINDOW DOWN, WHEN A RUNNING DEER MADE CONTACT WITH MY DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR WITH IT'S HEAD. THE MIRROR WAS VIOLENTLY SHUT INTO IT'S FOLDED-IN POSITION CAUSING THE MIRROR TO SHATTER AND PROJECT LARGE AND SMALL PIECES OF VERY SHARP GLASS ACROSS THE DASHBOARD AND FORWARD AREA OF THE CABIN. DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE IN THE GLASS' PATH WERE CUTS ON MY LEFT HAND, SLICE MARKS ON THE STEERING WHEEL COVER, AND PUNCTURE MARKS ON THE DASHBOARD, PASSENGER-SIDE A-PILLAR, AND PASSENGER-SIDE DOOR PANEL. INCORRECT MIRROR MATERIAL AND/OR PROPER BACKING MATERIAL PLAYED PARTS IN WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT IF THE DEBRIS FIELD WAS DIRECTED TOWARDS THE DRIVER AND/OR PASSENGER (IF THERE WAS ONE). THE MIRROR MATERIAL WAS NOT SAFETY GLASS OR MADE FROM OF A SHATTER-RESISTANT MATERIAL. THE BACKING MATERIAL SURFACE CONTACT AREA WITH THE BACK OF THE MIRROR WAS ONLY ABOUT 45% OF THE MIRROR'S SURFACE AREA.
