The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon further inspection, it was noticed that the frame was rusted. In addition, the contact related the failure to an unknown NHTSA Campaign that was performed in the past; however, the failure reoccurred. The local dealer that performed the recall repair was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The frame on my 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 has severe corrosion and multiple areas of rust perforation despite being treated under Toyota’s Limited Service Campaign D0D in 2015. During that campaign, the dealer removed the bed, documented active rust on the frame, cleaned it, and applied Corrosion-Resistant Compound (CRC) to key areas as the preventative remedy. As documented in multiple repairs the corrosion was already advancing at the time the CRC was applied, the steering shaft boot was replaced the same day as the compound was put on at 93,822 miles, several other critical safety failure shortly after; the brake pivots seized at 94900, Rotors rust pitted at 99537, bumper had perforations at 109407, 1 brake line from master cylinder and 1 brake line from ABS actuator leaking near the junction block on L/S of the frame at 113422, 52 days later the shift cable was broken at 114904. The current perforation and delamination indicate that the D0D remedy failed to prevent structural degradation as intended. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle’s structural integrity is severely compromised, creating a risk of frame failure while driving. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk due to potential loss of control or component separation. The problem has not yet been inspected by the dealer in its current condition but has been escalated to Toyota Corporate. I have attached the communications with them. The truck has been fully serviced through Toyota since new, with the last documented service in January 2021. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages prior to the failure. Visible rust first appeared prior to the D0D treatment and has now progressed to full perforation. The vehicle is currently unsafe to drive.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the steering wheel vibrated abnormally, and the steering wheel was difficult to hold steady. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to secure the steering wheel while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the TPMS was providing erroneous operating information and alerts. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that the cross member near the steering rack had a fractured in the frame. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota Collision Center, where a mechanic determined that the entire sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the Toyota Collision Center for assistance. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,857.

The contact stated upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for a routine brake line repair, the contact was informed that the sub frame was severely corroded. The mechanic informed the contact that the frame could collapse if the contact continued driving the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. No further information was available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

My 2006 tundra has major rust on the frame to the point it isn't safe to drive anymore. I have reached out to Toyota and my local dealer and have received the same answer from both saying its not something that Toyota will cover, despite the fact that there was a national safety recall that started in 2016 for rust related issues.

The truck as a whole is in immaculate condition with absolutely no other issues other than the frame is completely rotting away. Holes on multiple pieces of the frame well above the six of a quarter.

On April 6, 2024 I was driving my 2006 Toyota Tundra when the brakes gave out and the vehicle went through the back wall of my garage. The brake fluid spilled onto the street and onto my driveway. There are 3 witnesses to this including a police officer. I am lucky that I was not a highway when this happened. I had the Tundra towed to a repair garage and they put it on a hoist. Two mechanics showed me the underside which is completely rusted , including some holes. They told me I would have continuous problems because of the rust. They also said that Toyota may have had a recall for my vehicle. I did the research and found that to be accurate. The recall includes millions Toyotas, including my Toyota Tundra, built between 2004 and 2008. So mine is eligible. However, Toyota did not contact me about the recall. Toyota did contact me about another recall involving the air bags. Toyota sent me a letter about the air bags. I still have the letter and I can send a copy if you wish. So, they have my name, address, and they know that I own the Tundra. But they did not contact me about the frame rust. Had they done so, I would have acted immediately. I purchased the vehicle in 2012, so it was a used vehicle. So, Toyota, obviously has had plenty of time to notify me, but they did not. I called Toyota and gave the person I talked to the VIN. She looked it up and told me there is " no service history of rust frame repair" for my Tundra" on their system. Toyota needs to rectify this. I expect that Toyota will pay for the rust frame damage, as they have for millions of other Toyotas, and for other damage to my vehicle, and other costs including towing costs, taxi service, the insurance deductible that I must pay for damage to my garage, two new front tires and other costs as they become known. This is only fair.

06 Toyota Tundra SR5 with has severe frame rusting, to the point the truck has became a safety hazard. I tried to take the truck in for a Fluid Film coating and/or a Ziebart coating, and they both said I shouldn't even bother. Hundreds of thousands of these trucks all had frame issues, and Toyota should step up to the plate and fix them.

Frame has snapped after being denied a replacement by Toyota under their extended service campaign for frame issues. Dealer told customer to make a separate appointment for frame inspection while truck was in for unrelated service and campaign had expired while customer was in hospital ultimately ending with Toyota denying a replacement citing that customer was outside of date for service campaign.

I took the vehicle in for routine oil change. The technician advised on his notes: " Safety hazard: there is very bad rust on the frame of this truck. The sway bar and engine mount looks like it could break free at any time" I then took the vehicle to my Toyota dealer who inspected the frame and advised they couldn't fix it and they did not recommend driving it due to the rusted frame.

I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra SR 5 with only 88330 miles. I had it inspected yesterday and was told that the truck may not pass next year due to the known issue of undercarriage rust. I had checked into this with Toyota in the past and was told that my particular truck was not covered by the recall for this rust issue. I am not sure why or how my truck was excluded from the safety recall but believe it was, and for me, still is an issue that needs to be addressed. The truck is in otherwise beautiful condition with an intact gold paint job and matching Leer camper shell. In fact I get a lot of compliments and believe that it would be also in Toyota's interest to keep this classic on the road. I am hoping that they will work with me in this regard. Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota tundra with 115,000 miles on it. I took it to my mechanic because of the rust underneath basically my frame and the mechanic looked at it and said it was rusting out so bad it was too dangerous to drive, I called Toyota and they said they had a recall on it and sprayed it that was back in 2014 here it is 2023 and I am afraid to drive it because it could cause a terrible accident for me or somebody else again my mechanic said it’s too dangerous to drive Since Toyota will not do anything I am turning to you. Good afternoon, my name is Anthony Eakins, and I live in south west Florida. I have a 2006 Toyota tundra and I absolutely love my truck I believe this is one of the best trucks on the road even though it was built in 2006 (275,000 miles) The issue I'm having is my frame is to the point where I will have to get rid of my truck. The other issue is the frame is so bad I can't even sell my truck. I know there was a recall several years back and I'm curious why my truck is not part of this recall. My truck is rusting right above the rear leaf spring shackles and right at the bend by the motor. I have taken extremely good care of this truck it stays in my garage and the frame has been sprayed with under coating professionally every two years. I even have a detailed list of everything that's been done with this truck since 40,000 miles. Since my truck has been taken care of very well, I have not had any issues until now. I know Toyota is a very reliable vehicle and was curious if there's anything you can do to help me with the situation. My ruck was recalledseveral years agofor the frame. To correct this issuea toyota dealer spray the frame.this did not stop the frame from rusting.a lot of other people I talked to said their frames replaced with no questions asked. But not mine.when I talked toyota for the new england territory, I was just given a run around. And nothing was done. There have been other recalls such as the air bag recall Iam not sure that was done correctly. Recently I took my toyota to toyota of Keene NH. I was told that they found other issues like the yransfer case was cracked in half. And there was a priblem with the head lights. Yes I can see there was a problem with the lights, someone at toyota service did not plug them backin after they checked them. I had to move the battery to get at the head light think it was a bad bulb, not. And I lost the screw to the battery compartment some where intheengine area. I take great steps to keep my truck safe to drive and clean to look at.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated there was a hole in the rear driver’s side mount. The contact was informed that the fuel strap mount on the front driver’s side and rear fuel tank was corroded, and that the truck bed was also rusted. Toyota has been aware of rust problems on the first generation Tundra frames, but only put out a recall for the 2000-2003 model years. My 2006 has had some weak spots patched, however the frame broke in one spot due to the rusting out issue that Toyota should be aware of.

The bed of the truck rots out around where it is bolted to the frame. It is a common problem with Toyotas. The bed could collapse down and possibly come off. If this happens on the road it could cause a sever accident. Also the frame on Toyotas rot . If it rots by spring hangers this can be carastrofic.toyota has issued a frame recall on this. I had mine undercoated in 2015 from an authorized Toyota dealer. I was told I had a life time warranty if done by Toyota . The frame is not rotting as well as the bed. I was told it isn't going to be warrantied. Toyota should stand behind they're products.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that a black sealant would be sprayed on the subframe to prevent corrosion. Over time, the sealant began to peel, and corrosion started to form on the subframe. The contact called the manufacturer and dealer about the failure but was offered no assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe was severely corroded and had significant holes. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her brother's residence at a slower speed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the vehicle was out warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. UPDATE 06/07/2023- Consumer mailed letter stated the vehicle was in Ohio with Noxudol 300- 3 liters and 1 liter of another rust prevention product. Consumer had frame inspected. Invoice estimate is attached with letter.

My front stabilizer bar broke off from the frame the frame is rusting through in several places. I found this when my power steering started making noise and I was losing fluids took it to mechanic and a line on my rack and pinion had started leaking could not get just the line had to buy the whole rack and pinion when he was replacing it he found the stabilizer bar had broke loose from the frame the mechanic said I needed to get in touch with Toyota for a fix

In 2014 Toyota had a recall on the frame rusting issue. I had Toyota of Hanover Pa review the truck frame and they said it didn't meet the requirement for a frame replacement and they applied under coating. Now in 2021 the frame is starting to show signs of rust along the main frame beside the fuel tank when I had the vehicle in for inspection. I was a little confused sense it was undercoated but then reading more about the undercoating it may have made it worse by holding the moisture in and making it rust. I contacted Toyota to see if they would replace and or help me with the cost in replacing the frame since the truck is in excellent shape with 114k. And there response was NO the recall has expired and we can not do nothing. I priced a frame replacement and its over 11k. Also, reading a lot of other Toyota Tundra complaints about the undercoating and not installing a new frame around the same time period and everyone feeling the coating was going to last as long as the truck. I would appreciate any help on your end with this issue. The frame of truck is rusted very bad. The frame part where the tire spare is being held in place is rusted to the point that when you touch it, it crumbles into pieces of rusted metal. One side of the frame that holds the spare tire is almost completely gone. I feel like if I hit big bump the spare wheel would fall out and hit someone. My Toyota Tundra is a 2006, I know there was a recall for earlier model of my Tundra for the same rusted frame problem. But for some reason the 2006 was never recall even though I seen a lot of people having the same safety issue.

The truck has bad frame with many holes! The rusted frame! Affecting the suspension and many others parts of the truck the front driver side frame it’s broken! I took the truck to Toyota dealer in Dalton Georgia and. So they refusing to do the job and they sent me back with the same problem problem they took pictures of the frame the guy that That take care of me told me that it truck is not safe for driving!

MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS JUST SERVICED AT REPUTABLE MECHANIC AND ALERTED ME TO THE RUST HOLE THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRING BRACKET. ADDITIONALLY, THE FRAME IS SEPARATING FROM THE TRUCK DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE RUST. THE FRAME IS DEFOLIATING IN SHEETS OF RUST, VERY SIMILAR TO THE CONSISTENCY OF SHALE. CONTACTED CORPORATE TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY. CASE WAS PUSHED TO A SENIOR MANAGER AND FINALLY RECEIVED A RETURN CALL 13 DAYS LATER. THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD WARRANT A FRAME REPLACEMENT BASED ON THE AGE OF MY VEHICLE, THE MILEAGE (248,000) MILES, AND NO CURRENT RECALLS. I FIND THIS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. TOYOTA IS A COMPANY I THOUGHT WAS BASED ON 'PERFORMANCE, RELIABILITY, AND SAFETY', BUT I GUESS IT'S NOT. I RECEIVED THE CAMPAIGN TO BATTLE THE RUSTY FRAMES BACK IN 2014 AND WAS PROACTIVE AND COMPLETED THAT AT THE DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE UNDERCOATING WHICH DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT COVER THE RUST AND INCREASE THE BREAKDOWN OF THE FRAME. SINCE THEN, I HAD DRIVEN MY TRUCK TO AND FROM WORK AND RELIED ON IT TO SAFELY TRANSPORT MY FAMILY EVERYWHERE, BUT NOT ANY LONGER. I FIND THIS TO BE COMICALLY IRRESPONSIBLE FOR TOYOTA TO TURN A BLIND EYE. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER 2006 TUNDRAS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES, HOWEVER THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ONLY LISTS 2007-2008 TUNDRAS THAT COULD WARRANT FRAME REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, A COWORKER JUST TOOK HIS 2005 TUNDRA IN FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL, AND THEY DISCOVERED THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAS OVER 200,000 MILES SIMILAR TO MINE AND IS GETTING A NEW FRAME??? CORPORATE TOYOTA WOULDN'T COMMENT ON THAT. I'M AT A LOSS AND DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TOYOTA EXPECTS ANYONE TO JUST WALK AWAY AND DO NOTHING. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WILL OCCUR AGAIN FOR THE 2006 TUNDRAS. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, FELT A AND HEARD A BUMP (NO BUMPS IN ROAD) AND LOST MOST STEERING CAPABILITIES. AFTER PULLING TO SIDE OF ROAD. I NOTICED TIRES WERE POINTED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE, I COULD SEE LARGE RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME AND THE RACK WAS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. TOYOTA INSPECTED THE FRAME UNDER RECALL IN 2015 AND SAID THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS AND PAINTED ONLY THE REAR PORTION OF THE FRAME WITH AN ANTI CORROSION PAINT WHICH HAS NOW ALSO RUSTED AWAY. I BELIEVE THE FRAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL INSTEAD OF COVERING WITH PAINT THAT DID NOT DO THE JOB.

I SEE THAT MINES NOT LISTED AS RECALLED FOR FRAME RUST BUT I'M NOT SURE WHY WHEN THE GAS TANK LOOKS LIKE IT GOING TO FALL OFF AND SEEMS ONLY CRITICAL SECTIONS ARE SEVERELY RUSTED LIKE THE GAS TANK AND WHERE THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER SITS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME NEAR THE REAR SUSPENSION HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. MY VEHICLE RECENTLY FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME RUST IN THE REAR AND POSSIBLY IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I PREVIOUSLY HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TO INSPECT THE FRAME DURING A RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA FRAME RUST: I WAS INFORMED BY MY LOCAL MECHANIC TODAY THAT MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA WILL NOT PASS VIRGINIA'S YEARLY SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF HOLE IN THE FRAME AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. MY TRUCK PARTICIPATED IN TOYOTA'S LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN D0D IN 2014 AND A RUST RESISTANT COATING WAS APPLIED TO COMBAT A KNOWN CORROSION ISSUE WITH THEIR TRUCK FRAMES. I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS INSPECTED, FOUND TO BE CLEAN, AND THE COATING APPLIED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO FOR YOU". I HAVE FOUND EXISTING LAWSUITS ADDRESSING THIS EXACT ISSUE ON OTHER TOYOTA MODELS INCLUDING 2007 AND 2008 TUNDRAS. THE SETTLEMENT IN THESE CASES INVOLVE COMPLETE FRAME REPLACEMENT. IT IS OBVIOUS TO ME THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, BUT CHOOSING TO DO NOTHING.

I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE INSPECTED- IF FRAME WAS INTACT BUT JUST RUSTED THEY WOULD TREAT IT WITH A COATING , IF IT THERE WERE HOLES IN THE FRAME IT WOULD BE REPLACED. MY TRUCK WAS AT THE DEALER ( BOCH TOYOTA NORWOOD MA) FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I WAS TOLD FRAME INTACT, IT WAS TREATED WITH RUST PROOFING AND COATING. LAST WEEK THE BRAKES FAILED- IT TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINE WAS ROTTED THROUGH CAUSING LEAKING OF BRAKE FLUID. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. DEALER VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS AN EARLIER RECALL TO SPRAY FRAMES, BUT THE SPRAY HAD LIMITED AVAILABILITY FROM TOYOTA AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FULFILL THE RECALL WHEN WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THEM FOR THIS SERVICE. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 150,000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVABLE FOR MANY MORE. THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAD A RECALL ON THE FRAME BECAUSE THE FRAMES WERE COMPROMISED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO ORLEANS TOYOTA AND HAD THE FRAME INSPECTED. THEY SAID THE FRAME WAS NOT RUSTED THAT BAD AND IT COULD BE TREATED, WHICH WAS PART OF THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT COMPROMISE. NOW MY FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HOW DID THE DEALERSHIP PROPERLY INSPECT A ENCLOSED BOX FRAME? HOW DO YOU TREAT A FRAME MADE OUT OF INFERIOR METAL AND CORRECT THE ISSUE? THE TREATMENT DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. MY VEHICLE HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE EVEN AFTER THE RECALL. I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND KNOW THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRAS AT THIS TIME. FRAME RUST - I AM EXPERIENCING MAJOR FRAME RUST ON MY VEHICLE. IT EFFECTS 90% OF THE FRAME, THE BRAKE LINES, CONTROL ARMS AND EVEN THE ALIGNMENT COMPONENTS. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY GAVE ME TWO CASE NUMBERS AND SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND RECALL EXPIRED. I ASKED DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT FOR RUST IN JANUARY OF 2017 AND THEY SAID IT WAS TOYOTA ISSUE AND TO WAIT. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA TELLING ME I NEEDED TO HAVE MY FRAME INSPECTED AT THE DEALERSHIP IN 2014. I DID THIS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY FRAME WAS FINE. LESS THAN 2 YEARS LATER MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY FRAME WAS NOT FINE AND URGED ME TO CONTACT THE DEALER OR TOYOTA CORPORATE DIRECTLY. I DID SO BUT THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL THAT HAD BEEN PLACED ON THE FRAMES HAD EXPIRED. I RECENTLY HAD SOME BRAKE WORK DONE ON THE TRUCK AFTER MY BRAKE LINES BURST. THE SAME MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS SO BAD THAT HE DID NOT THINK IT WOULD PASS INSPECTION. I ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY SAID THEIR WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY HAVING THE FRAME ANALYZED BY A THIRD PARTY IN HOPES REPAIRS CAN BE MADE SO THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO BUY A NEW TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAS 112000 AND I INTENDED TO PUT MANY MORE MILES ON IT THAN THAT. ALSO RELATED TO THE METAL USED UNDER THAT TRUCK, IN 2014 THE REAR PUMPKIN RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND I NEEDED TO HAVE A NEW REAR SUSPENSION PUT IN. FURTHERMORE, I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ZIEBART UNDERCOATING THAT THE DEALER WAS ADVERTISING WHERE FOR THE FIRST 6 YEARS I OWNED THE TRUCK, 2008-2014, I HAD IT UNDERCOATED ONCE EVERY YEAR. I RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE SOME BODY WORK DONE ON MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE BODY SHOP OWNER SAID THAT HE SAW THE FRAME WAS EXTREMELY RUSTY AND IN HIS OPINION WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. HE SAID HE REMEMBERED THAT TOYOTA HAD A RECALL FOR RUSTY FRAMES PREVIOUSLY BUT HE DID NOT REMEMBER WHAT YEARS AND MODELS WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HE SUGGESTED I CONTACT TOYOTA. I DID CONTACT TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED IN JULY OF 2015. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2006 AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THE TRUCK. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL AND HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR TRUCKS. IT STARTED WITH MY GAS TANK FALLING OFF THE FRAME. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK AT THE TIME THE GAS TANK BAND BROKE THAT HOLDS THE GAS TANK TO THE FRAME. I THEN FOUND A HOLE IN THE FRAME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, JUST IN FRONT OF THE SWAY BAR MOUNT, LARGE ENOUGH TO PLACE MY HAND IN TO THE CENTER OF MY PALM. OBVIOUSLY, THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I THEN CONTACTED MY DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, DOWN EAST TOYOTA OF BREWER, ME. THE LADY I SPOKE WITH (LYNN), FROM DOWN EAST TOYOTA OF BREWER, MAINE, WAS CONDESCENDING AND ARROGANT ELUDING THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SOMEHOW MY FAULT. I LEARNED FROM HER THAT APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR RUSTED FRAMES. I DO NOT RECALL GETTING THIS RECALL INFORMATION. BUT LET THAT GO, MY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM (DOWN EAST TOYOTA IN BREWER, MAINE) HAS TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I GOT 10 YEARS FROM THE TRUCK. SINCE THIS IS AS LONG AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST ANYWAYS. MY DEALER (DOWN EAST TOYOTA OF BREWER, MAINE) TOLD ME MY OPTION WAS THAT THEY HAVE A PERSON THAT BUYS USED VEHICLES AND I COULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEM TO SEE WHAT THE JUNK BUYER WOULD GIVE ME FOR MY TRUCK. OR, I COULD PAY TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. GIVEN THE SEVERITY OF THIS KIND OF ISSUE, AND THE SAFETY ISSUES RAISED WITH A DAMAGED FRAME, I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE NOTIFICATION THROUGH REGISTERED MAIL OF THE ISSUE. OR AT LEAST, A FOLLOW UP LETTER TO INSURE THE FIRST NOTICE WAS RECEIVED. AS I SAID, I DO NOT REMEMBER GETTING SUCH NOTIFICATION. I HAVE WRITTEN TO TOYOTA AND HAVE HEARD NOTHING BACK AS OF YET.

THE FRAME IS RUSTING. I CALLED AND WAS TOLD THE NOTICE I RECEIVED WAS FOR AIR BAG ISSUES ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. SO I CALLED CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD THE NOTICE ON MY RUST ISSUES EXPIRED JULY OF 2015. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY I RECEIVED THE NOTICE FOR THE AIRBAG BUT NOT THE RUST ISSUE? AND NOW THAT I KNOW ABOUT IT AND WANT TO GET IT RESOLVED THEY WONT DO ANYTHING? I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A BALL JOINT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND I AM SURPRISED THERE IS NOT A RECALL. THE FRAMES WILL EVENTUALLY RUST APART TIL THE SNAP. ARE WE WAITING FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PEOPLE TO DIE BEFORE HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE? THIS ISN'T SOME SMALL ISSUE, THIS CAN BE LIFE THREATENING. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE VERY WELL. IT GETS ALL THE ROUTINE THINGS DONE AND ONLY A MECHANIC TOUCHES IT, IT IS NEVER WORKED ON AT HOME IN THE GARAGE. I LOVE MY TOYOTA AND I AM VERY SHOCKED THEY HAVEN'T GONE FURTHER TO CORRECT THEIR WRONG. THEY MADE THE MISTAKE AND DIDN'T PROTECT IT NOT ME. THE VEHICLE FRAME IS SHOWING MAJOR SIGNS OF RUST. THIS APPARENTLY IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA REGARDING THIS MATTER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ISSUED A TEMPORARY SERVICE FOR THIS BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE SINCE WHENEVER CONPONENTS NEED REPLACING THE BOLTS MUST BE CUT OFF DUE TO RUSTING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL SINCE CERTAIN AREAS ARE THINNING ON THE FRAME.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN FEB 2015. WHILE DOING SOME ROUTINE MAINTENANCE IN MAY 2015 TO THE VEHICLE I NOTICED SOME FRAME RUST. WHEN I TOOK A CLOSER LOOK I NOTICED THAT SOME AREAS OF THE FRAME RAILS WHERE PIECES WERE CONNECTED APPEARED TO BE STARTING TO SEPARATE DUE TO RUSTING. I CONTACTED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT IN ON JUNE 20, 2015 FOR THEM TO HAVE A LOOK. AFTER ONE OF THE TECHS ON SITE LOOKED AT THE TRUCK FRAME HE TOLD HIS MANAGER THAT IF THIS TRUCK CAME INTO THEIR SHOP THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE FRAME AS PART OF A RECALL. THE MANAGER TOOK SOME PICTURES AND SAID THAT HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. AFTER NOT HEARING BACK FOR A COUPLE WEEKS I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE FRAME WAS PREVIOUSLY COATED WITH A PROTECTIVE COATING AS PART OF A TOYOTA RECALL FOR RUSTING FRAMES THAT THERE WAS NOT MUCH MORE THEY COULD DO. I THEN OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE DUE TO MY CONCERN OF SAFETY AND QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DECISION THAT WAS MADE TO TAKE NO FURTHER ACTION ON THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL WAS STILL AND ACTIVE CAMPAIGN. TOYOTA BASICALLY GAVE ME THE SAME RESPONSE AS THE DEALERSHIP. I ASKED IF THEY COULD AT LEAST REVIEW THE TRUCK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SAFE FOR DRIVING AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRUCK WAS RECALLED AND THE FRAME WAS COATED WITH A PROTECTIVE COATING AND THAT WAS BASICALLY THE END OF WHAT THEY COULD OFFER. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE FRAME IS OBVIOUSLY STILL RUSTING SO WHATEVER FIX THEY PERFORMED DID NOT WORK. WHETHER IT WAS DONE IMPROPERLY OR PERHAPS NOT THE CORRECT DECISION BASED ON THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST GAVE THIS CASE A SECOND EVALUATION CONSIDERING THAT THE CAMPAIGN WAS STILL ACTIVE WHEN I HAD IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS TRUCK CONSIDERING THAT THE FRAME CONTINUES TO RUST.

MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN A CRACK ALONG THE FRAME RAIL APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES LONG NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE FRAME HAS NUMEROUS OTHER HOLES OPENING UP AND SIGNIFICANT FLAKES OF STEEL FALLING OF THE FRAME IN THIS SAME AREA. I HAVE METICULOUSLY CARED FOR THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN SURE TO KEEP THE CAR AND FRAME CLEAN, PARTICULARLY DURING THE HARSH WINTER MONTHS. NONETHELESS THE FRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE SWAY BAR MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH. WHILE TOYOTA INITIATED A "LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN" THIS IS NOT A FULL RECALL. I LEARNED OF THIS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE 26 DAYS AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE CAMPAIGN ON JULY 31, 2015. AS THIS IS NOT A RECALL, CUSTOMERS SUCH AS MYSELF HAVE NO RECOURSE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS RUDELY INFORMED THAT THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS AND THAT MY VEHICLE CANNOT BE COVERED UNDER THE CAMPAIGN AS IT HAS EXPIRED. THIS LEAVES ME WITH SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF TOYOTA'S ENGINEERING ERROR. NOT ONLY DOES THIS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE, BUT CLEARLY POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION ARE WEAKENED. FURTHERMORE, AN ACCIDENT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE AND INJURY AS A RESULT OF THE WEAKENED STRUCTURE. THE FACT THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN NOT BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL IS APPALLING. TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES AND HAS LEFT ME TO FEND FOR MYSELF FOR THEIR ERROR. I STRONGLY URGE THE NHTSA TO RECONSIDER THEIR CLOSED CASE ON THIS FRAME ISSUE AND DEMAND A RECALL. THE MEASURES TOYOTA HAS TAKEN THROUGH THIS CAMPAIGN ARE NOT SUFFICIENT. THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHER OWNERS WHOSE FRAMES ONLY RECEIVED THE CRC COATING AND HAVE CONTINUED TO RUST. THIS WAS CLEARLY A STOPGAP MEASURE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAFETY HAZARD AND ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THEIR DESIGN FLAW.

A 1992 FORD F-250 (2 DOOR) TOWING A PORTABLE CEMENT MIXER, ESTIMATED WEIGHT @350-450 POUNDS, CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND STRUCK A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREW CAB (4 DOOR) HEAD ON. BOTH VEHICLES ESTIMATED SPEED WAS 50 MPH. ALL DRIVERS AND PASSENGER WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS, AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. THE F-250'S DRIVER SUSTAINED 1 DETACHED RIB PLUS CUTS AND BRUISES. IN THE TOYOTA, THE FOLLOWING INJURIES OCCURRED: PASSENGER: BROKEN LEFT ANKLE, 7 BROKEN RIBS, STERNUM AND CLAVICLE FRACTURES, 7 INCH LEG LACERATION, 5 INCH HAND LACERATION, CUTS & BRUISES. DRIVER: BROKEN RIGHT ANKLE, BRAIN CONTUSION/CONCUSSION (VISIBLE IMPACT SPOT ON WINDSHIELD - SEE BELOW), BROKEN RIB, CUTS AND BRUISES. TOYOTA'S OCCUPANTS CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION INTRUDED ABOUT 2 FEET INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, CONSISTENT WITH THE ANKLE INJURIES. IT ALSO APPEARS FROM PHOTOS THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE DRIVER, ALTHOUGH THE BELT AND AIRBAG COULD HAVE NOT PROVIDED ADEQUATE PROTECTION ALSO. FRONTAL PHOTOS OF THE TOYOTA SHOW, APPARENTLY, THAT THE BODYWORK DETACHED FROM THE FRAME - THE FRONT OF THE FRAME IS CLEARLY VISIBLE & DOES NOT LOOK SERIOUSLY DAMAGED, WITH THE BODYWORK (INCLUDING THE BUMPER) PUSHED BACK SUBSTANTIALLY. IT SEEMS TO ME THERE ARE SEVERAL POSSIBLE DEFECT/DESIGN ISSUES HERE: 1. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION CAME STRAIGHT BACK AND DID NOT DEFLECT DOWNWARDS, CAUSING THE LOWER EXTREMITY INJURIES. 2. MULTIPLE RIB INJURIES DESPITE OCCUPANTS BEING BELTED SUGGESTS EXCESSIVE AIRBAG INFLATION PRESSURE. 3. BODY TO FRAME ATTACHMENT FAILURE, EXACERBATING INTRUSION OF ENGINE AND FRONTAL COLLAPSE/COMPRESSION. THE ACCIDENT WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL (REPORT AVAILABLE) AND OCCURRED ON STATE ROUTE 178 ON MAY 27, 2015, ABOUT 25 MILES EAST OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.

I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE FRAME RUST CORROSION RECALL. CORPORATE GUIDELINES INDICATE THE NECESSITY TO INSPECT, REMOVE THE PICKUP BED, REMOVE ANY RUST AND REINSPECT FOR RUST PERFORATION. CORPORATE ALLOWS 8-9 BILLABLE HOURS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS SERVICE. MY VEHICLES SERVICE WAS COMPLETED IN LESS THAN 4. UPON INSPECTION, IT IS APPARENT THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER REMOVED THE BED NOR REMOVED ANY RUST PRIOR TO SPRAYING THE FRAME WITH ITS "CRC". I HAD DOCUMENTED PHOTOGRAPHS TO PROVE THIS POINT AND THEN CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE. BY TOYOTA CORPORATE'S REQUEST, I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION,THE DEALERSHIP'S SHOP MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE BED WAS NOT REMOVED AND MULTIPLE AREAS OF RUST THAT HAD BEEN LEFT UNTOUCHED. ONLY FURTHER INDICATING THAT IN ADDITION TO NOT REMOVING THE BED, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT BOTHER TO REMOVE ANY EXISTING RUST FROM THE FRAME EITHER. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO STRIP AND PROPERLY TREAT THE FRAME AS INDICATED BY CORPORATE GUIDELINES. I CONTACTED CORPORATE AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE ANY ADDITIONAL ACTIONS. AS IT STANDS, IT IS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST AS TO HOW LONG IT WILL BE BEFORE THERE IS A POTENTIAL FAILURE HERE. THIS IS NO ISOLATED INCIDENT EITHER, THERE ARE MANY OWNERS WHO ARE BEING DEFRAUDED IN A SIMILAR FASHION. FIVE MINUTES ON GOOGLE WILL EASILY PROVE THIS POINT. AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND, TOYOTA SETTLED WITH THE FRAME MANUFACTURER (DANA CORP) FOR AROUND $25 MILLION. SO TOYOTA SOUGHT OUT AND GAINED FINANCIAL REIMBURSEMENT ON THEIR END BUT WHEN IT COME TO TAKING CARE OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DAMAGED, NOT SO MUCH. (TOYOTA GOING PLACES) ON WEDNESDAYS FEBRUARY 5, 2014 ABOUT 5:30PM , I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA TO WORK. AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONTO I-95 SOUTH, THE FRONT LEFT-HAND SIDE OF MY TRUCK COLLAPSED. TO MY SURPRISE THE BALL JOINTS HEAD SEPARATED FROM THE SUSPENSION, THE LEFT BOTTOM FRONT SUSPENSION WAS DRAGGING THE HIGHWAY AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS NOW STUCK UNDER THE RUNNING BOARD. THIS ACCIDENT ALSO DAMAGED THE LEFT FRONT BUMPER, THE LEFT FRONT FENDER AND THE LEFT FRONT DOOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS TRAUMATIZED. I SAW NO WARNING THAT THIS ACCIDENT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I KEPT MY TRUCK IN IMMACULATE CONDITION AND HAD REGULARLY MAINTENANCE DONE AT THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WE DECIDED TO DO A SEARCH ON THE WEB TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS EXISTED AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND PROVIDED MY VIN NUMBER - LOW AND BEHOLD MY TRUCK WAS NOT IN THAT RECALL (MY VIN# MISSED IT BY 15 DAYS). THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE ASKED ME TO TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE. AT MY OWN EXPENSE, I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED AND AFTER ABOUT TWO DAYS MY REPAIR EXPENSES WERE DENIED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, I WAS OFFERED $750 TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TOYOTA FOR BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER. I PURCHASED THREE NEW VEHICLES FROM THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (2006, 2007, & 2008). AFTER FIGHTING WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA CORPORATE FOR A DAY AND HALF, I WAS ASKED TO MOVE MY TRUCK OUT OF THEIR SHOP. MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS EXPERIENCING EXTREME CORROSION OF THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY AND SKID PANS. I'VE HAD A MECHANIC INSPECT THE DAMAGE AND HE CONCURRED THAT THE RUST IS FAR WORSE THAN WOULD BE EXPECTED FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. THE METAL IS PITTED AND FLAKES OF RUST ARE FALLING OFF OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING. I CONTACTED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BUT THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS AGO, I COULD NOT OPEN THE TAILGATE OF MY TOYOTA TUNDRA. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE CLIP. TWO MONTHS AGO, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $179 TO FIX IT. I ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A PLASTIC CLIP THAT KEEPS BREAKING. I TOLD THEM THAT THE TRUCK HAD BEEN IN THE GARAGE FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS BECAUSE MY HUSBAND WAS OUT OF THE COUNTRY. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS JUST THE PLASTIC BREAKING. THIS FILING IS IN REFERENCE TO MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 V8 4.7 LTR 10,000 MILES. FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS OF DRIVING THE ABOVE REFERENCED VEHICLE I STARTED TO NOTICE A KNOCKING METAL SOUND UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE WHEN ACCELERATING AND BRAKING... I TOOK NO IMMEDIATE ACTION AS I FOUND IT TO BE A VERY LIGHT SOUND. AFTER A FEW MORE DAYS OF DRIVING THE KNOCK BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE I WAS MORE ALARMED, WHEN I GOT HOME I GOT UNDER MY TRUCK WITH A FLASHLIGHT AND STARTED TO TAKE A LOOK AROUND, AFTER CAREFUL INSPECTION I FOUND THAT 3 OF 4 12MM HEX BOLTS ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MOUNT/ CROSSMEMBER WERE MISSING FURTHER MORE THE CASE WAS THAT THE REAR TRANSMISSION MOUNT LOCATED NEAR THE DRIVESHAFT WERE LOOSE ENOUGH THAT COULD BE MOVED WITH MINIMAL STRENGTH WITH MY HAND I WAS ABLE TO RECOVER 1 BOLT THAT FELL INTO THE CROSSMEMBER ALONG WITH A PLASTIC RETAINER. I QUICKLY TIGHTENED THE LOOSE BOLTS AND REALIGNED THE MOUNT TOOK THE TRUCK OUT FOR A QUICK TEST DRIVE AND THE SOUND STOPPED TOTALLY, THE NEXT MORNING I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND PURCHASED 2 NEW HEX BOLTS THAT CAME OUT TO $ 3.40. AFTER THIS U CAN SAY THAT ALL IS NOW WELL, I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS THERE MAYBE OTHER SIMILAR UNITS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME ISSUE, THIS COULD CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND ALSO POSSIBLE INFLICT AN ACCIDENT. *NM
