I own a 2006 Toyota Tundra with severe frame corrosion and rot. The rust has eaten through major portions of the frame, especially around the rear crossmember and leaf spring mounts. It has compromised the vehicle’s safety and structural integrity. Toyota previously offered frame replacements and extended corrosion coverage for similar models (Tacoma, Sequoia, and certain Tundras), but my VIN was denied even though the issue is identical. The corrosion is so severe that it poses a risk of the frame snapping or suspension components detaching while driving. This is a serious safety defect, not just cosmetic rust. The frame can fail without warning, which could lead to loss of control or an accident. Toyota should be required to inspect and address this defect for all affected vehicles. Location of problem: Frame rails, rear crossmember, spare tire area, and control arm mounts. Date problem occurred: 07/09/2025 I’m requesting that NHTSA investigate and require Toyota to include my vehicle in their frame corrosion program or issue a new recall covering affected first-generation Tundras.

The frame on my 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 has severe corrosion and multiple areas of rust perforation despite being treated under Toyota’s Limited Service Campaign D0D in 2015. During that campaign, the dealer removed the bed, documented active rust on the frame, cleaned it, and applied Corrosion-Resistant Compound (CRC) to key areas as the preventative remedy. As documented in multiple repairs the corrosion was already advancing at the time the CRC was applied, the steering shaft boot was replaced the same day as the compound was put on at 93,822 miles, several other critical safety failure shortly after; the brake pivots seized at 94900, Rotors rust pitted at 99537, bumper had perforations at 109407, 1 brake line from master cylinder and 1 brake line from ABS actuator leaking near the junction block on L/S of the frame at 113422, 52 days later the shift cable was broken at 114904. The current perforation and delamination indicate that the D0D remedy failed to prevent structural degradation as intended. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle’s structural integrity is severely compromised, creating a risk of frame failure while driving. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk due to potential loss of control or component separation. The problem has not yet been inspected by the dealer in its current condition but has been escalated to Toyota Corporate. I have attached the communications with them. The truck has been fully serviced through Toyota since new, with the last documented service in January 2021. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages prior to the failure. Visible rust first appeared prior to the D0D treatment and has now progressed to full perforation. The vehicle is currently unsafe to drive.

I have a 2006 Tundra with 120k miles and I was told it wasn't one that was effected by the recall. However I'm have frame rot issues and just had to spend thousands of dollars to make it safe. This is the second time I've had to repair the frame in the 4/5 years I've owned it.

My 2006 tundra has major rust on the frame to the point it isn't safe to drive anymore. I have reached out to Toyota and my local dealer and have received the same answer from both saying its not something that Toyota will cover, despite the fact that there was a national safety recall that started in 2016 for rust related issues.

The frame/chassis of my truck has sections that are completely rusted out. For instance, the part of the chassis that is responsible for holding the fuel tank in place is rotting away. I know there was a service campaign to have these trucks coated with some preventive coating but that is as effective as the original coating. The truck needs a new frame due to rust.

June 14-15, 24 I was driving down the road when all of a sudden it felt like I hit something hard with the passenger front side of my truck. I knew there was nothing anywhere in the road other than potholes, so I was very shocked and worried of what it was. The truck jerked hard and slammed my head into the driver side window post almost knocking me out. It took all I had to keep from wrecking and hitting someone head on. Upon inspection, I saw that the frame had completely rusted through on the passenger side. I had a mechanic, body shop and several very experienced people look at it and have spoken with my insurance company and sent photos, but all are saying this is a serious life threatening Toyota issue where there were recalls and class action suits and they should be held accountable because they know there is a problem. Carfax didn’t show any issues and there were no apparent issues that stood out when I purchased the truck in Oct 2023. I still owe a lot on it and can’t drive it due to this issue. My mom spoke with a lady at Toyota who agreed that this never should’ve happened and that they would work with us to remedy the problem. Then she was transferred to another dept and then another dept and eventually told that Toyota has no open campaigns, the vehicle is out of warranty due to age and miles. No pictures were asked for even though they were offered as this is a serious safety problem that they know about. I was unaware at the time of purchase of this serous problem, but now that I’ve done a lot of research, I see that many have had similar incidents and luckily lived to write about it. Will the next one be so lucky? All I want is for Toyota to repair the vehicle. Toyota did tell my mom that a recall in 2016 had a rust plate/guard placed on the truck. It failed to work! Toyota needs to be held accountable for the many who are still having these issues. They are a large co.whi can afford to assist us who are struggling due to their sorry products.

My frame on the truck is rusting and cracking. Toyota issued a recall for 2000-2003 tundras and didn’t include the 2004-2006 tundras. These frames are a danger to the driver and others on the road.

I purchased vehicle from private dealership Mar/23 with mileage of 77k. While under dealer warranty had it inspected at local Toyota dealership for frame defects. Was told none were found and none were reported in service records. These records were from the Toyota dealership where previous(and original) owner had every factory recommended service performed over a 16 year period. In Dec/23 I discovered, on accident, significant deterioration of frame components as well as a large hole in the main frame rail. This hole was disguised with sheet metal, epoxy, and spray paint. Took it back for re-inspection where the issues were recognized as in serious need of repair. Other trucks of this era were eligible for frame replacement but was told mine was not, nor are the necessary parts available should I want to replace the frame out-of pocket. Truck now has only 82k miles on it but driving it poses a safety concern for those in and around it.

I took the vehicle in for routine oil change. The technician advised on his notes: " Safety hazard: there is very bad rust on the frame of this truck. The sway bar and engine mount looks like it could break free at any time" I then took the vehicle to my Toyota dealer who inspected the frame and advised they couldn't fix it and they did not recommend driving it due to the rusted frame.

Good afternoon, my name is Anthony Eakins, and I live in south west Florida. I have a 2006 Toyota tundra and I absolutely love my truck I believe this is one of the best trucks on the road even though it was built in 2006 (275,000 miles) The issue I'm having is my frame is to the point where I will have to get rid of my truck. The other issue is the frame is so bad I can't even sell my truck. I know there was a recall several years back and I'm curious why my truck is not part of this recall. My truck is rusting right above the rear leaf spring shackles and right at the bend by the motor. I have taken extremely good care of this truck it stays in my garage and the frame has been sprayed with under coating professionally every two years. I even have a detailed list of everything that's been done with this truck since 40,000 miles. Since my truck has been taken care of very well, I have not had any issues until now. I know Toyota is a very reliable vehicle and was curious if there's anything you can do to help me with the situation. My Toyota Tundra has extensive rust damage due to rust and it’s sway at has come completely disconnected from frame. Also there are at least other significant rust issues with the frame that make this truck unsafe.

The bed of the truck rots out around where it is bolted to the frame. It is a common problem with Toyotas. The bed could collapse down and possibly come off. If this happens on the road it could cause a sever accident. Also the frame on Toyotas rot . If it rots by spring hangers this can be carastrofic.toyota has issued a frame recall on this. I had mine undercoated in 2015 from an authorized Toyota dealer. I was told I had a life time warranty if done by Toyota . The frame is not rotting as well as the bed. I was told it isn't going to be warrantied. Toyota should stand behind they're products.

WE bought this truck in 2016. From Mitchell Selig Ford in Windsor CT. Apparently their was a rust recall in 2015. The dealer did not get this fixed and as a result our truck is completely rusted and unrepairable. We were not aware at all this was a recall as it happened prior to us buying the truck. What can I do about this ? Their is really "no incident" to report. I need to know what Toyota will do about this issue.

Luckily there has not been an incident as of yet. Shortly after I purchased truck in 4-2017 the steering rack rusted off, had that repaired, few months later noticed rear differential was dripping due to rust eating through entire casing. My mechanic informed me that there was a recall issue involving frame rust so I took it to Toyota service dept. where they inspected and said it was fine and that the recall had expired. I went ahead and spent $1100.00 for new tires and a few weeks later heard noise underneath, turns out exhaust reducer is rusted apart, but when I looked at frame I was shocked to see several holes, a couple the size of my fist and frame looks like it is starting to twist. I took it to dealer again to have them look at it and they just said there is nothing they can do for me at this point. The rest of truck is rust free, in great shape, it was 80% garage kept. Please let me know if there is any recourse for me with this potentially dangerous situation.

Frame has rotted out before rear wheels and cross support for gas tank. Toyota did a recall on it in 2014 but the fix didn't last 7 years and now this vehicle could break in half or loose its gas tank creating a danger to driver and / or others. The vehicle is in great shape and low mileage and is nowhere near end of life otherwise. Toyota is offering no support at this time claiming they fixed the problem in 2014.

I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra that is in perfect condition mechanical and body no rust, recently found out about frame that has a hole in it on the right front it has been confirmed by dealership that it cannot be driven. In 2015 I took truck in for the recall for the frame obviously something was not done properly. After doing some research I'm finding out Toyota has been having problems with frames from about 2000-2009. The main issue here is if we did not notice this problem and someone is driving the vehicle and frame breaks and someone gets hurt who is responsible

The truck has bad frame with many holes! The rusted frame! Affecting the suspension and many others parts of the truck the front driver side frame it’s broken! I took the truck to Toyota dealer in Dalton Georgia and. So they refusing to do the job and they sent me back with the same problem problem they took pictures of the frame the guy that That take care of me told me that it truck is not safe for driving!

The chassis is rusted and the tires started leaning out because they are no longer supported fully. The vehicle is unsafe to drive now because of tire issues, and control. Insurance and or police will not look at because no accident occurred yet. I just notified Toyota who said the recall on models such as this had ended in 2015. The used car dealer my son just purchased from 5 months ago has denied any knowledge of the problem.

ON JANUARY 10 2020 MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA BROKE DOWN. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IT WAS AROUND 4:45PM WHEN I HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM MY DRIVERS BACK TIRE, I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED OUT UNDERNEATH AND MY TIRES DID NOT SEE ANYTHING GOT BACK IN VEHICLE AND BACKED IT UP TO A SIDE STREET IT MADE THE CLUNKING NOISE. I CALLED MY HUSBAND HE CAME OUT AND CHECKED THE TRUCK OUT TOO COULDN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ( WE HAVE TOWING SERVICE PLUS WE BOUGHT A EXTENDED WARRANTY) SINCE IT WAS PASS 5 PM THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T LOOK AT THE TRUCK TILL THE NEXT DAY. WHEN THEY GAVE ME A CALL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY SWAY BAR BROKE AND THE CLUNKING NOISE WAS MY BRAKE DRUM AND PAD IT WAS SO RUSTED IT BUSTED IN PIECES. HE ALSO SAID THATS NOT THE REAL CONCERN & ISSUE HE TOLD ME THAT MY WHOLE FRAME WAS VERY RUSTED & CORROSION HE STATED THAT MY TRUCK WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ANTI RUST COATING WAS APPLIED IN 2016 AS PART OF A RECALL- COATING WAS NOT PROPERLY APPLIED AND MOISTURE GOT UNDERNEATH. NOW, 2020, MOST OF THE COATING HAS PEELED OFF, REVEALING A 3 INCH HOLE IN MY FRAME AND A COMEPLETLEY BROKEN CROSS MEMBER NEAR THE GAS TANK. MY 2006 TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 4.7L LIMITED 4WD HAS A SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE CUT ON THE FRAME DUE TO RUST. THE CUT STARTS ON THE FRAME FROM THE BRACKET HOLDING THE SWAY BAR LINK BACK TO THE CROSSMEMBER FRAME. THIS RUST IS SPREADING AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. THIS VEHICLE IS MY DAILY COMMUTE VEHICLE AND I LIVE IN A NORTHERN REGION OF THE US WHERE SALT IS USED ON ROADS DURING THE WINTER. THE VEHICLE HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN FROM THE NORTHERN REGION. EXCESSIVE FRAME ROT ON MY 2006 TUNDRA. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CORROSION COATING APPLIED BUT IT DIDN'T STOP THE FRAME FROM ROTTING PREMATURELY. TWO YEARS LATER ALL THE COATING HAS PEELED OFF AND THE RUST HAS GOTTEN WAY WORSE. THE SAME YEAR SEQUOIAS HAVE THE SAME FRAME AND THEY WERE RECALLED. WHY HASN'T THE 2003-2006 TUNDRAS BEEN INCLUDED? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AN MUST BE RESOLVED.

MY SERVICE PROVIDER REPORTED IN OCTOBER 2018 THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS VERY RUSTED. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE RUSTED MUFFLER. DURING THE TEST DRIVE AFTER REPAIRS THE FRONT BRAKE LINE BURST BECAUSE OF RUST. I HAD IT REPAIRED. DURING PRESSURE TESTING AFTER REPAIRS THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST BECAUSE OF RUST. AT THIS POINT, THE DEALER SHOWED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS SO DETERIORATED THAT IT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR WOULD BE MORE THAN THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, SO I PARKED THE TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. IF MY WIFE AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN THE BRAKE LINES BURST, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKE LINES RUSTING AND FAILING BEFORE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT I WAS NOTIFIED TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED IN 2015 FOR POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP WITH MY PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE WITH EVERY OPTION AVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE IS NO LONGER USABLE. HOW MANY OTHER TUNDRAS OUT THERE HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF BRAKE LINES FAILING BECAUSE OF RUST.

THE WEIGHT LIMITS, SPECIFICATIONS, PARTS, AND RECALLS ARE DIFFERENT FOR THESE TWO MODELS. HOW DO I GO ABOUT CORRECTING THIS? THANK YOU

DRIVING HOME AT THE END OF OUR VACATION, MY WIFE AND I WERE IN SEPERATE VEHICLES, SHE IN FRONT OF ME ON I-80 GOING WEST BOUND. WE'D JUST GOTTEN OFF THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE AND AS TRAFFIC WAS BUILDING AND SLOWING, SHE BRAKED AHEAD OF ME AND WHEN I PRESSED MY BRAKE IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULDN'T STOP IN TIME BEFORE REAR ENDING THE CAR MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. IT WAS A LOW SPEED IMPACT, MAYBE 25 MPH. NO POLICE REPORT AND WE JUST KEPT DRIVING AFTER CHECKING THAT ALL WAS OK. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED AND THE MECHANIC CALLED ME TO SAY THE BRAKE LINES AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE STATED HE CANNOT DO THE WORK DUE TO THE FACT THE TRUCK IS RUSTED BEYOND REPAIR AND HE FELT UNSAFE TO WORK UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK FOR FEAR OF IT FALLING ON HIM. I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRUCK FOR RUSTED FRAME ISSUES AND THE WINDOW TO RESPOND WAS MISSED DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS INVOLVING CARE OF A SINCE DECEASED MOTHER. I TRIED TO TALK TO TOYOTA BUT THE SHORT ANSWER IS I WAS TOO LATE EVEN THOUGH THE RUSTED FRAME IS ONLY WORSENING WITH TIME DUE TO FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IS A MANUFACTURING FLAW WITH THE METHOD THESE TRUCKS WERE PRODUCED.

I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND PURCHASED IT ONLY AFTER I REVIEWED ITS CARFAX HISTORY, DEALERSHIP REPAIR HISTORY, AND ADDITIONAL OWNER DOCUMENTS. SPECIFICALLY, THIS TRUCK WAS TREATED WITH A TOYOTA DEALERS RUST PROTECTION PACKAGE WHICH COVERED STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND FRAME OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE ARE WARRANTED NOT TO RUST THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD SPECIFIED'. PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE RUST PROTECTION POLICY WARRANTY, THE ORIGINAL OWNER REQUESTED FRAME RUST EVALUATION AND REMEDIATION. TOYOTA PERFORMED THIS SERVICE IN 2015. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. FOLLOWING MY PURCHASE, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOYOTA AUTONATION IN LIBERTYVILLE IL FOR A MECHANICAL INSPECTION. AT THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS PERFORATED. THE TOYOTA AUTONATION SERVICE MANAGER SUBMITTED A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE PERFORATION TO TOYOTA CORPORATE TO REQUEST FRAME REPLACEMENT. HE WAS TOLD BECAUSE RUST REMEDIATION SERVICE HAD BEEN PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY, TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE FRAME RUST PERFORATION DEFECT. PROPER MANUFACTURING ANTI-CORROSION APPLICATION ALONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENT, ESPECIALLY FOR A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE AND EXEMPLARY OWNER CARE AND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE. WHEN I ASKED THE TOYOTA AUTONATION ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER HOW I COULD FIX THE FRAME DAMAGE, HE SAID ONCE PERFORATION OCCURS YOU REALLY CAN'T, BECAUSE WHAT HAS OCCURRED IN ONE LOCATION IS PROBABLY OCCURRING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FRAME, AND I COULD DUMP (SELL) THE TRUCK. FOR THESE REASONS, I BELIEVE THIS TOYOTA TUNDRA'S FRAME PERFORATION RUST IS DUE TO DEFECTIVE DESIGN, MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP DURING IN MANUFACTURE OF THE VEHICLE, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK IS RUSTING AWAY. THE LEFT RAIL OF THE FRAME ( UNDER THE DRIVERS AREA) LOOKS LIKE SWISS CHEESE WITH ALL THE HOLES IN IT. YESTERDAY I TOOK THE TRUCK TO HAVE THE FRAME PATCH WELDED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T THE WORST SPOT OF ROT. THE FRAME SECTION THAT JOINS THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS BADLY ROTTED AND WHEN TAPPED WITH A HAMMER HUNKS OF IT ARE FALLING OFF. I HAVE BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO HERB CHAMBERS, MY DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT FIT THE CRITERIA FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT. IN 2015 I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR ITS RECALL FOR FRAME ROT AND THE TRUCK RECEIVED A FRAME COATING OF RUST PROTECTOR. 2 YEARS LATER I WAS TOLD BY THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE AREA THAT THIS COATING WAS A JOKE. TOYOTA FOUND THAT THE COATING NEVER DRIED THEREFORE WOULD HAVE WASHED OFF IN THE NEXT WET DRIVING DAY, SO NO RUST PROTECTION. WHEN I QUESTIONED TOYOTA CORPORATE WHY THE 06 TUNDRA WASN'T GETTING CALLED BACK WHEN SO MANY OTHERS HAD BEEN, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE. I LOVE MY TRUCK, IT RUNS GREAT, HAS NO OTHER ISSUES, 259,844 MILES ON IT AND I NEED TO KEEP IT GOING FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO MY FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES AND REALLY NEED MY TRUCK TO GET TO WORK AND HOSPITAL IN BOSTON WITH MY HUSBAND. CAN YOU OFFER ANY RECOURSE? EARLIER IN THE YEAR OF 2017, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA (BRIAN WARNER ET AL. V. TOYOTA MOTOR SALES) WAS SETTLED REGARDING FRAME RUST AND CORROSION. THIS LAWSUIT LED TO THE RECALL OF ALL 2005-2010 TACOMAS, 2007-2008 TUNDRAS, AND 2005-2008 SEQUOIAS. BEING THAT THE SEQUOIAS ARE BASED OFF OF THE TUNDRA IT IS INTERESTING THAT THE RESPECTIVE YEARS OF TUNDRAS WERE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SEQUOIAS. THE ARGUMENT FOR THE CASE WAS THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY RUST PROTECTANT PUT ONTO THESE FRAMES AND THEREFORE THEY WERE ROTTING PREMATURELY AND CAUSING SERIOUS DANGER TO THE PEOPLE WHO DRIVE THEM. I HAVE EVEN READ STORIES OF TRUCKS SNAPPING IN HALF UNDER THEIR OWN WEIGHT WHEN BEING PUT ONTO A LIFT. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 TUNDRA AND AM EXPERIENCING THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT AM NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. ONE OF THE RACK AND PINION MOUNTS THAT ARE WELDED ONTO THE FRONTMOST CROSSMEMBER OF THE FRAME IS 2/3 ROTTED AWAY AND IS ALMOST TO THE POINT WHERE IT WILL BREAK OFF LEADING TO AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE REASON TOYOTA LOST THIS LAWSUIT AND WHY OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED. TOYOTA ALSO RECOGNIZED THIS ISSUE IN 2015 WITH A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN WHICH EXPIRED AND OFFERED NO WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR IT. I RECENTLY VISITED A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO WENT UNDER THE VEHICLES AND CLAIMED THAT THE ROT IS SO BAD UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FRAME ENTIRELY IF IT HAD BEEN RECALLED. THEY ALSO GAVE ME DOCUMENTATION OF THIS. ESSENTIALLY MY FRAME IS BEYOND REPAIR AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY BECAUSE OF THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY. I THEN CONTACTED THE TOYOTA CORPORATE NUMBER AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER BUT THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IF THE 2006 SEQUOIA WAS INCLUDED WHICH IS BASED OFF OF THE TUNDRA, AND HAS THE EXACT SAME FRAME, WHY WASN'T THE TUNDRA INCLUDED WITH THIS RECALL?

CURRENT MILEAGE APROX. 89000 . HAD A BRAKE CHECK AT MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. RAISED TRUCK ON TO THE LIFT AND WAS SHOCKED AT WHAT HAD BEEN REVEALED . THE FRAME HAS ROTTED THROUGH ALL OF ITS CROSS MEMBERS, CREATING A MAJOR STRUCTURAL PROBLEM. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER WICH IS CONNECTED AT 4 POINTS TO THE MAIN FRAME RAILS IS NOW ONLY CONNECTED AT 1 POINT. THIS CROSS MEMBER ALSO CARRYS THE SPARE TIRE. IF GONE UN DISCOVERD MAY HAVE FALLEN OFF DURING TRAVEL, CREATING A SAFTEY CONCERN. THE MAIN FRAME RAIL HAS MAJOR RUST DAMAGE AT THE CONNECTION POINT WITH THE CENTER CROSS MEMBER WICH PROVIDES STABILITY TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION . TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON THESE FRAMES BUT WERE ONLY PROVIDING A SPRAY ON RUBBERIZED COATING, WICH MOSTLY FLAKED OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND OPENED UP A CLAIM WICH WAS EVENTUALLY DENIED.THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AS IS .IM NOT FINANCIALLY IN A POSITION TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE AT THIS TIME . I DONT KNOW WHERE ELSE TO TURN WITH THIS SITUATION IF YOU SPEND 40-50,000 DOLLARS ON A VEHICLE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN 89000 MILES OUT OF IT

THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD OR COULD HAVE EVEN KILLED SOMEONE AND TOYOTA DID NOT EVEN NOTIFY ME OF THE ISSUE. "FRAMING ISSUE" I DISCOVERED ON JULY 23, 2017 THE FRAMING ON MY TRUCK AS ALREADY CORRODING WITH FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE FRAME BEGINNING TO COMPLETELY ROT WITH THE METAL BECOMING BRITTLE AND CRUMBLING LEAVING HOLES IN THE FRAME. TOYOTA CORPORATION HAD A RECALL REGARDING THE FRAMES FOR THIS VEHICLE WHICH WERE NOT PROTECTED FOR THE NORTHEAST WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. THEY APPLIED AN ANTI-CORROSIN SPRAY IN HOPES THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE CORRECTED, BUT THE RESULTS THREE YEARS LATER IS THE FRAMING HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO CORROSION WHICH MAY RENDER THE FRAME TO COMPLETE SUPPORT FAILURE. SPEAKING WITH CHRISTEEN, CASE MANAGER AT TOYOTA (800-331-4331, EXT 73811: CASE #1707240770), FAILED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM IN SAYING THERE IS NO OPEN CASE REGARDING THIS ISSUE, THEREFORE TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SHE FURTHER WENT ON TO SAY THAT TOYOTA EXTENDED A COURTESY IN RECALLING THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRAS FOR THIS PROBLEM TO ALL CUSTOMERS EVEN THOSE BEING OUTDSIDE THE WARRANTY TIMELINE (AT TIME OF RECALL MY TRUCK HAD 93,000 MILES). THEY BELIEVED THAT THIS ANTI-CORROSION SPRAY WOULD ALLOW THE FRAMES AN EXTENDED LIFE PERIOD BEFORE THE CORROSION WOULD EVENTUALLY ROT OUT THE FRAMES COMPLETELY. SHE APOLOGIZED IN SAYING THERE IS NOTHING MORE SHE COULD DO AND HOPED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER AVENUE SHE COULD TAKE IN RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM.

MY TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS PART OF A TOYOTA 'LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN' REGARDING CORROSION OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION WHICH RESULTED IN THEM CLEANING AND SPRAYING SOMETHING ON THE FRAME ON 5/9/14 WITH 89,820 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN ON 4/19/17 WITH APPROXIMATELY 109,000 MILES ON IT, IT WAS DETERMINED THERE IS A HOLE IN THE FRAME WHERE THE FRONT STABILIZER ATTACHES TO FRAME. NOT ONLY IS THERE A HOLE IN FRAME BUT THE STABILIZER IS NO LONGER ATTACHED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE HAD OTHER ISSUES REGARDING CORROSION ON THIS VEHICLE AND EACH PUT MY PERSONAL SAFETY AT RISK. ANOTHER EXAMPLE HAPPENED AROUND SEPTEMBER OF 2015 WITH 94,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING DOWN AND ALMOST TOUCHING THE GROUND. TURNED OUT THE MOUNTING STRAPS HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I NOTICED IT AFTER HAVING JUST DRIVEN TO A LOCAL BUSINESS. HAD I NOT NOTICED IT, THE TANK COULD HAVE HIT THE ROAD WHILE I WAS DRIVING CAUGHT FIRE BEFORE I COULD HAVE STOPPED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO HAD BRAKE LINES RUST THROUGH CAUSING ME TO LOOSE MOST OF MY BRAKING WHEN DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET AND JUST BARELY BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE TAKING GOOD CARE OF IT INCLUDING WASHING DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. AT WHAT POINT IS TOYOTA RESPONSIBLE FOR INSURING THE VEHICLES REMAIN SAFE THROUGHOUT THEIR NORMAL LIFETIME. A FRAME SHOULD NOT RUST THROUGH WITH ONLY 109,000 MILES.

FRAME RECALL TOYOTA DEALER SPRAYED SOME UNDERCOATING ON IT INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE FRAME AND NOW ITS RUSTING AGAIN. NO ONE WANTS MY TRUCK WITHOUT THE FRAME BEING REPLACED.

MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN A CRACK ALONG THE FRAME RAIL APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES LONG NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE FRAME HAS NUMEROUS OTHER HOLES OPENING UP AND SIGNIFICANT FLAKES OF STEEL FALLING OF THE FRAME IN THIS SAME AREA. I HAVE METICULOUSLY CARED FOR THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN SURE TO KEEP THE CAR AND FRAME CLEAN, PARTICULARLY DURING THE HARSH WINTER MONTHS. NONETHELESS THE FRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE SWAY BAR MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH. WHILE TOYOTA INITIATED A "LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN" THIS IS NOT A FULL RECALL. I LEARNED OF THIS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE 26 DAYS AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE CAMPAIGN ON JULY 31, 2015. AS THIS IS NOT A RECALL, CUSTOMERS SUCH AS MYSELF HAVE NO RECOURSE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS RUDELY INFORMED THAT THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS AND THAT MY VEHICLE CANNOT BE COVERED UNDER THE CAMPAIGN AS IT HAS EXPIRED. THIS LEAVES ME WITH SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF TOYOTA'S ENGINEERING ERROR. NOT ONLY DOES THIS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE, BUT CLEARLY POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION ARE WEAKENED. FURTHERMORE, AN ACCIDENT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE AND INJURY AS A RESULT OF THE WEAKENED STRUCTURE. THE FACT THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN NOT BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL IS APPALLING. TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES AND HAS LEFT ME TO FEND FOR MYSELF FOR THEIR ERROR. I STRONGLY URGE THE NHTSA TO RECONSIDER THEIR CLOSED CASE ON THIS FRAME ISSUE AND DEMAND A RECALL. THE MEASURES TOYOTA HAS TAKEN THROUGH THIS CAMPAIGN ARE NOT SUFFICIENT. THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHER OWNERS WHOSE FRAMES ONLY RECEIVED THE CRC COATING AND HAVE CONTINUED TO RUST. THIS WAS CLEARLY A STOPGAP MEASURE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAFETY HAZARD AND ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THEIR DESIGN FLAW.

THE SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING UNDER THE TRUCK. USE THE TOOLS TO CRANK IT BACK UP AND HOLD IT SECURELY. THE FIRST TURN AND THE CABLE SNAPPED AND TIRE FELL. THE CABLE WAS RUSTED AND SNAPPED AND THE CARRIER HOLDING THE TIRE ITSELF FELL

TOYOTA FELT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO APPLY SOME TYPE OF COMPOUND TO THE FRAME. *10/15/2015 BF IN MAY 2015 I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK AND NOTICED THAT THE RUST WAS COMING BACK WITH A VENGEANCE, ESPECIALLY WHERE THE RUST WAS HEAVIEST BEFORE. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT IF THE FRAME WAS DRIED, BRUSH, AND THEN THE COMPOUND "RUST PROOFING" WAS APPLIED THAT THE RUST WOULD BE COMING THROUGH/BACK IN LESS THEN A YEAR. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY DO NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. I FIND IT DISHEARTENING THAT THE BODY, ENGINE, AND THE REST OF THE TRUCK WILL OUTLAST THE FRAME. RUST DOES HAPPEN IN THE NORTH. HOWEVER, FRAMES DO NOT TURN TO DUST BEFORE THE FENDERS AND THE BODY. HOW IS IT THE BODY IS LASTING LONGER AND WEARING BETTER? THOSE PARTS ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME ELEMENTS AS THE FRAME! ESSENTIALLY, TOYOTA TRIED TO PUT MAKEUP OR A BAND-AID ON THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. IF YOU JUST PAINT OR COVER RUST WITHOUT TREATING THE RUST TO BEGIN WITH, THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED. IF YOU SAND THE RUST DOWN/OUT, THEN APPLY YOUR PAINT OR COMPOUND, YOU WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR METAL. I HAVE TRIED TO BRING THIS ISSUE UP WITH TOYOTA AND THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. THEY STATE THE ISSUE IS CLOSED AND NOTHING ELSE WILL BE DONE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH IT CERTAINLY APPEARS THAT TOYOTA'S MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND STANDARDS FOR SECOND GENERATION TUNDRA ARE NO DIFFERENT THEN THE FIRST. IF TOYOTA CAN NOT OR DID NOT WANT TO BUILD A VEHICLE FOR COLD ENVIRONMENTS THAT USE SALT, THEY SHOULD NOT SELL THEM TO THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE UNITED STATES.
