MY VEHICLE SET A DTC P2440 FOR THE SECONDARY AIR INDUCTION VALVE STUCK OPEN. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO WATER INTRUSION. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDER WATER OR OFF ROAD. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW/ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT TOYOTA CREATED AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS A RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED MODELS FOR REPLACEMENT FOR A BETTER OR REDESIGNED PART. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT FOR THE AFFECTED PARTS IS BEYOND REASONABLE FOR ALL TOYOTA OWNERS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THERE FLAW. 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7. APPROXIMATELY 124,000 KMS ENGINE WENT INITO LIMP MODE. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS AIR PUMP AND VALVE BANK FAILURE, $4700 REPAIR ESTIMATE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OVER 100,000 KMS. ALSO PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER THESE PARTS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. (GO FIGURE) PURSUED THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY WHICH COVERS EMISSION CONTROL PARTS, HOWEVER TOYOTA CLAIMS THIS IS NOT PART OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH THE AIR PUMP CONTROLS EMISSIONS AT VEHICLE START UP. TOOK THE PUMP OFF THE VEHICLE AND DRAINED THE WATER FROM THE POORLY DESIGNED SYSTEM, LUBRICATED THE PUMP AND GOT IT WORKING. TRUCK WENT BACK INTO LIMP MODE AFTER A COUPLE DAYS NOW APPARENTLY VALVE BANK IS STUCK. TOYOTA STILL RECOMMENDS REPLACING ALL THE PARTS FOR $4700. NOT HAPPY WITH TOYOTA THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL THE PUMP IS LOCATED IN THE FENDER WELL DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE, THE INTAKE PIPE FOR THE PUMP IS DESIGNED SO THAT ANY WATER PRESENT GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE PUMP CAUSING THE SYSTEM FAILURE. IT WOULD BE A PRETTY SIMPLE FIX FOR TOYOTA JUST PUT A 90 DEGREE BEND IN THE PIPE SO THAT WATER CANNOT GET IN AND REPOSITION THE INTAKE HOLE. TRYING TO SELL TUNDRA IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. *KB

ORDERED PARTS, AT THAT TIME. $1500.00 OF PARTS ORDERED. TOOK 9 WEEKS, TO GET PARTS. A VERY DANGEROUS TRUCK TO DRIVE, WITH THIS SITUATION. CAN'T PARK IT, TO WAIT 9 WEEKS, FOR PARTS, STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. NO POWER, DANGEROUS ON FREEWAY, OR ANY WHERE ELSE. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED FAR LESS POWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE REPAIRS FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ASSISTED WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,500.

THE VEHICLE RECURRED AND THE DEALER STATED THE ENTIRE EMISSIONS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER GIVEN A REASON WHY THE VEHICLE WOULD RESORT TO A LIMP MODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

MY WIFE CAME VERY CLOSE TO GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WHILE BRINGING THE KIDS TO SCHOOL A FEW WEEKS AGO. SHE WAS LEAVING A STOP SIGN GETTING ONTO A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN OUR 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA UNEXPECTEDLY HAD DRASTICALLY REDUCED POWER. AFTER A TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THE REDUCTION IN POWER WAS CAUSED BY A FAILURE IN THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM IS PART OF THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM AND IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY DURING COLD STARTS. WHEN THERE IS A FAILURE IN THIS SYSTEM THE ECM (ONBOARD COMPUTER) GOES INTO A MODE IN WHICH THE AVAILABLE POWER FROM THE ENGINE IS DRAMATICALLY REDUCED. TOYOTA HAS RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE TWO AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND A SWITCHING VALVE SET AT AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $3500. I AM RESEARCHING OTHER OPTIONS BECAUSE THEY TELL ME THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN CONTINUE TO REOCCUR OVER AND OVER AGAIN. *TR

TOYOTA TUNDRA 2007 W/ 4WD. VEHICLE WENT FROM NORMAL 2 WHEEL DRIVE INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW WITHOUT WARNING, WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY CONTROLS. COULD NOT DRIVE FASTER THAN 30 MPH, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED INTO DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS A COMPONENT IN THE ENGINE THAT FAILED. THE WARRANTY INSPECTOR CAME BY TODAY AND THE HISTORY DATA ON THE MEMORY HAD BEEN ERASED AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE. VEHICLE IS STILL IN THE SHOP. DEALER STATES IT IS DEFECTIVE BUT THE WARRANTY DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED AIR PUMP IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVE THE PROBLEM MAY BE THE ECU. STUCK GAS PEDAL. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED OVER A YEAR AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON US101 HIGHWAY NEAR TILLAMOOK, OREGON WITH TWO OF MY BROTHERS, ONE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND ONE ON THE BACK. WHEN I SLIGHTLY PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE TRUCK TOOK OFF WITH RPM AT ABOUT 6000 AND SPEED OF ABOUT 70MPH, AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK VIA PRESSING REALLY HARD ON THE BRAKE. FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BY PUSHING THE SHIFT HANDLE TO NEUTRAL. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND CHECKED THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE SURE NOTHING WOULD GET JAMMED, AND I DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, THE RPM SHOT TO 6000 AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I TAPPED ON THE GAS PADDLE COUPLE TIMES, AND THE ENGINE DROPPED BACK DOWN TO IDLE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ONE DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME, AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVING THIS INCIDENT, BUT I BELIEVED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEED TO GET MORE ATTENTION FROM THE TRUCK MANUFACTURER. VEHICLE HARD TO STOP WITH A/C OR HEADLIGHTS ON. ENGINE IDLES NORMALLY 5-600 RPM, UNTIL PARKING LIGHTS OR A/C IS TURNED ON. THEN IT IDLES AT 800 RPM IN GEAR. SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE YOU'VE BEEN REAR ENDED, AFTER COMING TO A STOP. IF DRIVING SURFACE IS SLIPPERY AND PUT INTO GEAR WITH HEAD LIGHTS ON, THE REAR TIRES WILL BEGIN TO SPIN, WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS IS A DAILY OCCURENCE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS WITH NO RELIEF. ALL THEY CAN SAY IS THAT THE COMPUTER SAYS EVERYTHING IS OKAY. TURNING THE PARKING LIGHTS ON DOES NOT CAUSE ENOUGH LOAD ON THE ENGINE TO WARRANT THE EXTRA 200 OR MORE RPM. THE OTHER DAY ( 01/26/2010 ) I WAS TURNING AROUND IN A MUDDY DRIVEWAY AND WHILE IDLING I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT. I LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE TRUCK WENT STRAIGHT, EVEN AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES, LEAVING TWO BIG RUTS THROUGH MY FRIENDS YARD. THE 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB WITH 5.7 LITER ENGINE WAS EXPERIENCING VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF WIRING HARNESS, TRACTION CONTROL ECU, WHEEL SPEED SENSORS THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. A FACTORY TECHNICIAN WAS BROUGHT IN TO LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE. THE FACTORY TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK WERE BECAUSE SEVERAL SENSORS HAD LOST CALIBRATION DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING DISCONNECTED. THERE IS NO INFORMATION IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOR ANY WARNING SIGNS ON THE VEHICLE THAT PROVIDE ANY CAUTIONARY STATEMENTS TO THE OWNER OR A SERVICE PROVIDER THAT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF CALIBRATION OF SENSORS IN THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION HAS CLARIFIED THAT THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY IN THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. A REVIEW OF SEVERAL TOYOTA REPAIR PROCEDURES, WHICH REQUIRE THE BATTERY TO BE DISCONNECTED CONTAIN NO WARNING TO CHECK SENSOR CALIBRATION. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEMS OF THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT FAILS, THE OPERATOR MAY LOOSE THROTTLE AND BRAKING CONTROL. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SHUT DOWN THE THROTTLE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION, THUS NEARLY CAUSING A T-BONE COLLISION. *TR
