I'm having an issue my 2022 Toyota Tundra having incredible throttle lag issues involves a delay and sudden surge when accelerating from a stop, creating a safety concern, often described as a "dead pedal". It has caused me to get into numerous situations where i could've gotten hit by other vehicles. It is so dangerous! The dealership is unable to fix it and says to disconnect the battery regularly to try and "help" the issue.

Dec 17, 2025

There is a well-known issue with these new model Toyota tundras where there are problems with acceleration. When at a stop and pulling out from the stop, the engine and acceleration hesitate, and there is a flag of between 2 to 5 seconds before the vehicle starts moving. The gas pedal is depressed and there is a hesitation or lag of several seconds before forward movement progresses. There was a Toyota safety bulletin update that was supposed to fix the problem and it did not. Many users are still reporting the same problem and it’s just as bad as it was before. This creates a massive safety issue when pulling into traffic or trying to increase speed to keep up with the flow of traffic when initially pulling out. My truck specifically is experiencing this anywhere from one to three times a week.

Dec 12, 2025

Throttle response occasionally drops out. Lag when trying to accelerate from a stop, then kicks in and the truck surges forward.

Dec 10, 2025

Truck regularly experiences throttle lag leading to dangerous/hesitating entry into traffic/intersections. Either each occurrence, after 1 to 4 seconds the vehicle will lurch forward hard after the pause. It has also happened when accelerating to pass on the highway. This also happened with the original and replaced engine.

Dec 10, 2025

Throttle delay is extremely dangerous and has nearly caused numerous accidents

Dec 4, 2025

Car stalls from stop during acceleration. There are times when there is no response from throttle.

Dec 3, 2025

When trying to accelerate from a stop this truck lags and hesitates to the point of stalling almost when pulling into or crossing traffic. I have been in many near miss collisions due to the hesitation and lack of response. This has been going on since I’ve owned the truck in 22 and the dealership failed to address it or even acknowledge it.

Nov 28, 2025

Ever since I got this truck, I’ve experienced intermittent hesitation/lag when accelerating from a stop. I’ve reported it to the dealer several times and am always told they cannot reproduce. The problem was NOT improved after the engine replacement. This is dangerous - when pulling into traffic I cannot always count on my truck actually MOVING when I press the accelerator.

Nov 26, 2025

THIS VEHICLE HAS TERRIBLE THROTTLE LAG/DELAY, SOMETIMES LASTING UP TO 4 SECONDS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS THREAT WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC.

Nov 26, 2025

Throttle Lag. When stopped at a stop sign, I attempted to accelerate and when I pressed the pedal, the vehicle didn’t respond. I had to release the gas pedal, wait a second, then attempt to accelerate again. This time it responded.

Nov 26, 2025

The truck has a hesitation to start from stop/slow state. This is concerning because when I start to accelerate, sometimes it doesn’t want to go for a 1-2 second time period making it unsafe to pull into traffic. It is sporadic and seems to happen more when I start and stop in quick succession.

Bought the truck from BILL LUKE MARANA was told there were no major safety issues with recalls and that the only recall was debris in engine that didn't have a fix yet.... drove the car from dealership to home, upon arriving home my wife smelled gas, i thought it was cleaning fluid smell or something. drove the truck to circle k smelled gas but though it was circle k . drove the truck once more to pick up an employee so i could drop him off to drive home the car i left at the dealer . During this drive the smell of gas became undeniable . Upon arrival home the truck was parked my employee ( who had been driving behind in a different car) jumped out and said the truck was spraying gas . My daughter exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was misted with gasoline. we subsequently found a fuel line was shooting out gasoline. I called bill Luke and told them to tow the truck back they said they couldn't so i was put in a position of having to drive the car back to the dealership. I was in fear of my life if driving this car so I was forced to pay a tow truck to return the truck to bill Luke. After speaking with bill Luke management I was told there are 2 major recalls with the vehicle first debris in the engine that can cause engine failure while driving and second a problem where the fuel line rubs against the brake drum or pad and can chafe to the point of leaking. The second recall issue is the one that put us in danger. I understand that recalls happen but I am under the impression that dealerships have a paramount responsibility to make sure the cars they sell are safe and have complied with major safety recalls. I don't believe this was done at Bill Luke Marana . I believe Bill Luke Marana put me and everyone on the road in danger to sell a car. Please address this monumental failure will ALL bill Luke sales offices and service centers to prevent unnecessary death or suffering in the future.

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash, but would not do the reflash at their expense. This is a safety issue that if not corrected may cause individuals to run out of gas while in motion on the highways causing the vehicle to stall causing a collision or road hazard.

Jun 24, 2025

Gas mileage at best 12MGP on full tank, despite highway driving and does not matter what mode the truck is in ... dealership refusing to look at potential issue ... wide reports on forum on very low gas mileage

May 12, 2025

Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all model year 2022 and newer Toyota Tundras.

May 11, 2025

At random times, from a dead stop, there is a significant ‘dead pedal’ issue with my truck when I try to accelerate. This is is followed by a huge surge in power to catch up and it lurches forward. It’s very inconsistent and worries me about turning out into regular traffic at times

May 9, 2025

Multiple times a day, when I push on the accelerator there is a delay. I’ve almost been hit a couple of times.

May 9, 2025

Occasionally, upon coming to a stop or from the stopped position the vehicle briefly hesitates when trying to accelerate cause the vehicle to aggressively jerk once the vehicle begins to accelerate, sometimes leaving you in the middle of an intersection or in a dangerous situation in traffic due to unresponsive acceleration inputs.

May 9, 2025

Hesitation when pulling out from a stop. Enough of an unplanned delay that it’s dangerous from cross-traffic at an intersection. Complained to dealer and they “updated” the computer and it still happens.

Feb 18, 2025

Major throttle response issues. Long delay when pressing accelerator, and when under heavy acceleration, if you let off the gas because of an obstacle, the truck continues to apply propulsion. Both issues could create an unsafe situation or cause a collision

Feb 18, 2025

The engine hesitated going up a hill by my house. I’ve gone up the hill many times in this truck and other cars and never had the problem. I turned it off and started it again but I do t know if I should keep driving. The dealer says I can’t get the recall done yet.

Feb 18, 2025

There is hesitation when depressing the accelerator. After stopping at stop sign then trying to move into traffic the vehicle will not move for several seconds. When the vehicle does move it takes off at an increased rate. This has happened several times from the first day the vehicle drove off the lot until present day.

Feb 18, 2025

Vehicle sporadically hesitates when accelerating from stop. Cause unknown. Dealer declined to address condition because they could not replicate it.

Feb 18, 2025

Vehicle hesitates when pressing the accelerator, especially when pulling off after a complete stop. This doesn't happen 100% of the time. From my experience, this happens 65-70% of the time with varying degrees of hesitancy. It's a safety issue as you never know when this is going to happen and to what degree; especially when crossing traffic lanes at an uncontrolled street crossing. I have spun out of my gravel driveway many times due to the hesitation.

Jan 13, 2025

Vehicle failed to accelerate when throttle pressed.

Jan 13, 2025

Truck has hesitation when throttle is pressed. Worse when cold and/or when truck starts nose down from a stop. Dangerous when pulling into traffic.

Jan 12, 2025

Delayed acceleration. Pulling into roadway and vehicle hesitant to go when gas pedal pressed. Unsafe condition

Jan 12, 2025

Throttle response is delayed intermittently. When proceeding from a stop or slow speed the truck will randomly have delayed acceleration. Then all of the sudden begins to accelerate with greater power and breaks the rear wheels free.

Jan 5, 2025

There is a hesitation when applying a gas pedal after a stop or rolling stop. This is a safety issue when trying to merge into traffic as the small delay in acceleration can cause an accident. The dealer stated that this is normal operation for the vehicle.

Jan 5, 2025

THROTTLE LAG WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULITIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING THIS. I FEAR THAT IF THIS DOES NOT GET FIXED MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE SEVERLEY INJURED OR MAY END UP DEAD. I TOOK IT TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERS. ONE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS AND ONE IN DEL RIO, TEXAS THEY BOTH SAID, "WE SEE NOTHING WRONG. AND TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT STARTS HAPPENING AGAIN." ALSO THEY STATED THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT SENT ANY RECALLS OUT FOR THIS SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP.

Jan 4, 2025

Hesitation upon acceleration causing dangerous situations and have almost been in an accident 3 times.

Jan 2, 2025

Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.

The fuel line recall is still pending post temporary fix late ’23 early ‘24

Dec 6, 2024

Vehicle had 11,000 miles on it and just was serviced at the dealership the day before. I was stopped in the middle turn lane trying to turn left. I hit the gas to cross 2 lanes of traffic and my engine stalled. I barely made it across traffic and the oncoming traffic had to slow down in order to avoid a T-bone type accident. The dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights. I still had battery power and able to slowly pull over to a side road, nothing more than 10mph. The engine would not turn over or engage. I power off the vehicle, let it sit for a couple minutes. I attempted to start the vehicle again, but there was no power to anything. I had the key fob and attempted to touch it to the start button to make sure it was in range, still nothing. I called road side assistance and had them tow the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership stated it fired right up without any issues the next morning. They could not provide a reason for the power loss or give an explanation for the warning lights because their computer did not have a history of it. I have since driven the become another 30k miles and have not experienced any loss of power. However, a safety recall for the exact motor in my truck was issued for all 2022 and 2023 tundras. The hybrid trucks were not in the recall. The incident described above was a big safety issue and very close to a bad accident. No doubt in my mind this motor is defective and it will happen again. I believe every truck with that engine should have the safety recall. I called Toyota and asked their Brand Engagement center about it, they said to write a complaint to NHTSA. The hybrid battery and motor are not even close in power to what the engine is. Surely there are more hybrid owners who have had the same problem. Please add the Hybrid Trucks to the recall. It’s the same engine. I am saving this message for future reference. If I die because of this defect, at least my family will own part of Toyota.

Sep 25, 2024

I’ve been attempting to get a recall fix for a while. Dealership won’t give me any updates other than “ we are still pending the part” since Feb 2024.

Sep 6, 2024

Dear NHTSA Team, I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding the extended recall processing time for my 2022 Toyota Tundra. I am deeply concerned about the length of time my vehicle has been out of service and the significant inconvenience it has caused me. Vehicle Information: Make: Toyota Model: Tundra Year: 2022 VIN: [Vehicle Identification Number] Recall Campaign Number: RMISC-24V381-8150 Recall Details: My vehicle was brought in for a recall issue related to a major engine failure, which is a significant safety concern, in May [year]. Despite the considerable time that has passed since then, I have been informed today that the repair cannot yet be performed. Given the severity of the issue and the extended time my vehicle has been out of service, I believe it is unreasonable to continue waiting for a resolution. Therefore, I am requesting that the dealership buy back my vehicle as a resolution to this matter. Since my truck has been in the repair facility, I have been driving rental trucks. This situation has been both inconvenient and costly. The prolonged absence of my vehicle has disrupted my daily life and work activities. I would like to request the following: An Immediate Status Update: Please provide me with a detailed update on the current status of the recall repair for my vehicle. Expected Timeline: An estimated timeline for when I can expect my truck to be repaired and returned to me. Buyback Request: I request that the dealership purchase my vehicle back given the unresolved and safety-critical nature of the recall issue. Compensation Information: Information on any potential compensation or reimbursement for the extended period I have had to use rental trucks due to this recall.

I have a 2022 Tundra that I purchased new. My current mileage is 18,500 and although my truck is part of the engine replacement recall that is not what I am complaining about, what I am complaining about is my front passenger window got stuck halfway open/closed and it's been sitting at the dealership for 2 weeks with no parts available to fix it (the cable snapped and motor burned out). They did put me in a rental (tacoma) but they have no idea when the parts will be available to fix my window! This is my 4th Tundra and never had an issue like this with any of my others. I've already called Toyota and they have no idea when parts will be available either. They also said they have no parts to fix the temporary fuel line recall which has been out for almost 1 year.

At certain times, when coming to a stop, and then attempting to proceed, the throttle with delay or lag from a stop. This has happened since the start of ownership in Feb 2022 up until today. Toyota has issued on previous Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) - T-SB-0111-22 - that Toyota states should resolve an issue with "Hesitation From Stop and Surge Concerns". The TCM -Transmission Control Module - logic has been modiWed to address these conditions. According to Toyota, this updated logic SHOULD keep this from happening. This TSB was released December 16, 2022. To date, this issue continues to occur. The only way to keep it from happening is to Reset the TCM Learning. This requires the battery to be unplugged for an extended period of time. There was a subsequent TCM logic update for Recall 24TA02 (NHTSA Campaign Number 24V125000). It would seem that this TCM Logic Update has actually caused this condition to be present more often. This is something that we have expressed to our Service Consultant at every visit and it is still occurring over two years later. We have had this happen multiple times while attempting to proceed through a 4-way stop, as well as trying to merge into tra`c in slower moving city streets. There are members of an online forum who have been able to record the data aow and show when and how the delay occurs. Other than December 2022 TSB, Toyota has not acknowledged this issue even though it continues to occur on the MY22+ Tundra/MY23+ Sequoia, as well as the MY18+ Lexus LS 500. I am lead to believe this is a result of the programming for the Direct Shift 10- AT from Aisin/Toyota and/or the V35A-FTS, both Type '17 (LS 500) and the Type '21 (Tundra/ Sequoia).

Recall 23TA09 (Interim Remedy Notice 23TB09) is coming up on 11 months since it was introduced. It took until December 2023 for the Interim Remedy to be ready. We are approaching nearly a year since this was introduced with no full remedy, causing a decline in trade-in value and dealers are unable to sell these vehicles as TCUV (Toyota Certified Used Vehicles) due to the nature of the recall. And no with the latest recall, 24TA07, we will be left out for the foreseeable future due to the engine recall not having any remedy available. This really is unacceptable.

Jul 2, 2024

Engine is running rough, Engine is idling very high went first start.,I am concerned about the temporary fuel line repair. I don’t believe it is sufficient because we are dealing with fuel. Fuel line should be replaced along with the engine having debris in it, I am concerned with even driving it. A brand new truck shouldn’t have all these recalls! This is like the 5th one. I pay to much money to drive a truck that I’m scared of driving. At this point tell them to give me back my money and I will go purchase a horse. Thank you!

Suddenly the gas gauge shows tank isfull even that it can be empty. I took the truck to the dealer for this issue, but it seems that there isn't a fix. I've heard some other Tundra owners have the same issue. This can be dangerous if I trust the gauge and forget to fill the tank before towing my 7k trailer.

Jun 21, 2024

Toyota annouced a safety recall (23TA09) in August 2023 on a plastic fuel line that may leak due to rubbing. A temporary fix was available which my dealer installed, but its coming up to a year from the original recall with no remedy available. Why is this taking so long?

Other than December 2022 TSB, Toyota has not acknowledged this issue even though it continues to occur on the MY22+ Tundra/MY23+ Sequoia, as well as the MY18+ Lexus LS 500. I am lead to believe this is a result of the programming for the Direct Shift 10- AT from Aisin/Toyota and/or the V35A-FTS, both Type '17 (LS 500) and the Type '21 (Tundra/ Sequoia).

Vehicle failed to move forward or reverse from a stand still. Once vehicle is shutdown and restarted, the problem does not return. When vehicle was sent to dealer it couldn't be duplicated. If this issue occurs on the open road, it could cause a collision.

In certain conditions, vehicle exhibiting unresponsive accelerator pedal. This appears to occur when vehicle is transitioning from a rolling stop to an acceleration condition. There is a 2-3 second delay and then the vehicle responds. T-SB-0111-22 has been applied to the vehicle, but condition remains This is causing an unsafe condition as one attempts to merge into traffic. Natural tendency is to apply more acceleration during these "dead pedal" conditions, and when power finally arrives, the vehicle lurches and sometimes will spin the tires. Numerous other people on forums have reported this condition and as of yet Toyota or Dealers have not been able to fix the problem

Throttle hesitation causes unsafe driving. Often times after slowing down at a yield sign and then accelerating there is a hesitation like the accelerator pedal is dead for about 1 second and then the truck suddenly lunges forward. A few months after purchasing my truck I reported the issue to Shelor Toyota and they did TSB 0111-22 which temporarily fixed the problem. Drove the truck for about 10 days and it was hesitation free. After 10 days or so the hesitation returned and it was as bad as ever. It’s very dangerous when driving on wet roads. The danger is slowing down to an almost stop to turn right or left on to another street. Once I complete the turn and try to accelerate on to the next street, I am forced to keep depressing the accelerator more and more to make my truck move forward. A few seconds later when the acceleration does occur, I lose control of the back end because I am now at half throttle om a wet road and it sends too much torque to the rear wheels causing them to lose traction. I’ve tried to adjust my driving habits to allow for the unpredictable throttle response but it is impossible to predict what the throttle response will be from one time to the next. It is a struggle to drive this truck in a safe manner because there is hardly ever any linear acceleration. I took my truck back to Shelor Toyota March 15th 2024 for some warranty work and reported the hesitation had returned right after they previously completed TSB 0111-22. This March 2024 visit to Shelor Toyota they contacted Toyota Technical Assistance regarding the issue and according to Toyota Assistance “Condition is a Normal Characteristic of This vehicle”. Shelor Toyota does great warranty work and treats me very well and I only have praise for them.

This is unacceptable this is a major safety issue and why is it taken Toyota so long to resovle this major issue.

Being parked my truck started leaking fuel from the refuel port area, after inspected the truck found that fuel was coming out from the charcoal canister ( refueling line, truck was towed to dealership service department on 3/6/2024, service department inspected and found flap valve in gas tank not working properly allowing fuel out of the tank and charcoal canister contaminated, service department replaced the fuel tank and charcoal canister without any good results, once they refueled the truck to deliver it to me the truck started leaking fuel again at the same area, they explained to me that now they are going to contact Toyota Engineers to take the case. Needless to say having the truck leaking fuel next to the rear left brake assembly could cause a un contained fire.

Inaccurate Fuel gauge or fuel consumption tracking to protect a fuel pump. Vehicle equipped with a 32 Gal tank. Vehicle indicates zero miles after 27 gallons are consumed. This leaves 5 Gallons remaining or 15.62% fuel remaining which is excessive error. If you know you have over 100 miles remaining when the software say you are at zero you tend to drive "Past" zero as a matter of normal operation. It would not be unreasonable to wait until 2 gallons remains to refill tank as that would still be 30-46 miles remaining. It was explained to me that the fuel pump uses the "excess" 5 gallons of fuel to keep the fuel pump "Cool" since the fuel pump is a submersed type pump. An overheating pump inside a tank full of fuel vapor might be a significant problem.

Toyota said Oct 2023 would have remedy, then failed to provide it. They postponed to Nov 2023. Now, it Dec 2023, and they still don't have a remedy. The car was grounded for 3 months.

NHTSA Recall Number23V566 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Issue still is not being addressed by Toyota in a reasonable time. Even their so called temporary clip fix is not available. How long do I need to wait for my vehicle to catch fire before someone fixes this issue?

Vehicle sometimes fails to accelerate when the accelerator is depressed. When this occurs, the vehicle moves forward slightly but then stalls while the engine is still running with no warning lamps or messages displaying. On several occasions this has caused me to enter into traffic (usually from an intersection or parking lot) and then discover the vehicle has stalled and won't accelerate. Removing my foot from the accelerator and then reapplying accelerator pressure usually corrects the issue but creates a dangerous situation and increases the chance for collision. The issue was first noticed on my vehicle about 2 months into ownership and has been reported several times to Vandergriff Toyota, Arlington, Texas. No resolution has been offered as the dealership can't identify or replicate the problem. T-SB-0111-22 was issued in December of 2022 and supposedly addressed this issue, but the problem continued after this work was performed on my truck. This issue is also well documented on the 2022 -2023 Tundra Forums with many owners still experiencing this problem. My vehicle is available for inspection.

My gas gauge does not work properly . When I fill it up it showing full. I will put on any where from 40-70 miles and my gauge will show I have 3/4 of a take before empty. Then I turn it off and when I turn it back the gauge goes back to full. Went to a dealership twice . The first time they replace a gas pump and some other things. I picked it up drove it around and the same thing happened. Took it in a second time and they told me Toyota has no solution to fix my gauge .

Since owning the vehicle, I still have long lag time when accelerating from a stop. Also, I’m experiencing bad vibrations in the rear of the vehicle which start 5/1/2023. ~10,000miles.

Nov 15, 2022

Randomly when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll (less than 5 MPH) the throttle doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds then the truck will surge. When I say it doesn't respond I mean nothing happens no RPM increase or anything. The dealership wants me to believe that it is turbo lag, but that is just a decrease in power, not total loss of acceleration. This has been an issue since delivery.

Nov 4, 2022

When stopped at an intersection, whether for a stop sign, stop light, or waiting to turn, there are intermittent times when there is a very distinct lag or delay between when the gas pedal is pressed and the vehicle actually starting to move. As I said, this is intermittent and not an 'all the time' occurrence. However, when pulling out and crossing traffic, not knowing whether the vehicle is going to go or not is very disconcerting. At best, I feel like I am left exposed and wondering if I am going to get hit. At worst, that delay causes others to also have to react, potentially making the situation worse for more than just me. The date below is just an estimate to when I first started noticing the issue.

Oct 30, 2022

This has happened 3 times now. From stoped at a red light or pulling out of a parking lot. I start to accelerate like normal for about 5 feet and then a total loss of power. This leaves me coasting into traffic and about 2 seconds later it takes off like normal.

Aug 22, 2022

Intermittent issue: When pressing the gas pedal, there is often a delay of 1 to 2 seconds, followed by an acceleration surge. This has created potentially hazardous conditions during otherwise routine traffic situations. The delay has resulted unpredictability and the surge has caused loss of control when on gravel surfaces.

I have been noticing since the beginning to middle of March 2022 the truck has been stalling while driving. It has happened 4 times since that time. Twice while in traffic and twice while driving on the highway. You have to come to a complete stop, put the vehicle in park and start the vehicle again. One time it happened we were almost rear ended by a semi truck driving behind us. Along with that, the Air Bag malfunction light has been coming on and off every few days. The fuel gauge has been showing all different fuel amounts as well every day. The truck has been a Toyota dealer for the past week and been communicating with Toyota engineers and I have been told by the service advisor Toyota is aware of these problems but do not have a fix. My family is terrified to drive the truck any longer and is a very dangerous and serious problem. I am not the only one who is experiencing this based on my own research. I did tell my dealer to document this on my record in detail as if anything happens to my family because of an engineering error I will take this to the highest level ever seen.
