My 2022 had a new crate engine put in at 26,000 miles in approx June 2025 (told me it would be 2 days but in less than 24hrs the service advisor called and told me it was completed) and from the second I picked up my truck and started it at the dealership, I heard a loud, fast ticking noisy sound coming from under the hood so I popped my hood and it sounded like a diesel engine and as I started driving I felt a weird popping/vibrating noise when turning either right or left at slow speeds and it felt like there were no shocks or motor mounts or something was bent and the rear end was skipping and making a loud thud when slightly stepping on gas pedal and Toyota said it's all normal. It also lost all power while I was driving 2 days after I picked it up from engine replacement along with the continuous surging forward when taking off from stop sign or red light. My front seat is cracked and they refused to fix it under warranty, my brakes squeal so bad and they said they ordered parts under TSB but it will be months before they come in, it's now been 7 months and still nothing. I will not drive further than 10 miles from my home Every time I get in this truck and put it in D, I fear for my life and when I put it in P, I breathe a sigh of relief. AutoNation Toyota in Weston, Fl replaced my engine and I truly believe that whoever put my new engine in, didn't put it back together correctly and damaged the suspension/steering system as well as the new ticking engine that is so rough. My new 2nd engine needs another engine. I feel like this truck is going to get me killed.
While driving forward at approximately 20MPH, the automatic emergency brake system activated, causing the vehicle to come to a stop. There were no vehicles or other object in front of the vehicle that should have caused the automatic brake system to activate. This has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle. The system cannot be turned off or disabled by the driver. This system engaging on its own creates a major safety hazard, as vehicles behind have to stop to avoid hitting my stopped vehicle.
As I was coming down thew mounts (44 miles of 7-9% grade) as I slightly hit the brakes the truck shook so badly is was vibrating me off the road. The only way to avoid to to put strain on my engine as to manually shift it down to 3rd gear to forcibly slow the truck to a speed where this could be controlled. Causing overall traffic issues.
First I had my engine replaced in May 2025 under the recall and service advisor informed me it would be about 3 days before they completed the engine swap and it had to sit to make sure there were no leaks anywhere and in less than 24 hrs the called me and told me my truck was all done. I went to pick my truck up they had it waiting in the service line with the engine running, I heard a strange ticking noise coming from under my hood that sounded like a lawnmower engine, the service tech tells me that is normal with the replacement engines which is absolutely false. Being a woman they tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I got frustrated and got in my truck and when I came to the first stoplight when the light turned green and I stepped on the gas pedal, my truck would not move, after about 5 seconds it surged forward and then again wouldn't move, then again my truck surged forward with a loud thud in the rear like somebody hit me from behind. It feels like it isn't kicking into gear and also my steering wheel was not centered when they swapped the engine so I have to hold my steering off to one side for my truck to drive straight. This has been a nightmare for me and Toyota refuses to acknowledge there is anything wrong. I've also been waiting for 7 months to get my front brakes fixed under the TSB and all they say is we don't have parts available, meanwhile they're building new trucks with new brake pads, rotors and calipers before taking care of the people waiting months and months? They try and wait until your warranty runs out so I have to pay for the fix. Please help. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have so many problems with my truck and the surging engine as well as squealing brakes, lane assist is disabled but comes on and jerks the truck out of my lane and it's impossible to steer almost causing me to crash numeroys times. Every time I try to get the engine replaced which I've been waiting over a year and I was in Phase 2 and every Toyota dealership tells me something different. I can't even sell this truck privately because it needs a new engine. I have 25,300 miles as of today and I've had it in the shop so many times and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. The headliner fell down onto my head and took it in for service and I got it back worse because they broke all the clips that hold the interior headliner in place and it's hanging down. Every time I bring it in for something they tell me the parts are not available but what they're doing is trying to make me run out of my warranty which is in 2 months. They're trying to sell me an extended warranty but they can't even fix anything that's under warranty right now. I really need your help here because there's so many other issues that I haven't even gone over. Everything is misaligned on this truck and they can't fix it my rear passenger door never latched correctly and they don't know what to do they just give it back to me the same way and I have small children that sit back there but they claim they don't know how to fix it.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated; however, the contact heard a squeaking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer offered to repair the brakes under a warranty; however, the dealer had informed the contact that the parts were ordered, and the contact had been waiting for three years for the brakes to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was recently taken for an unknown recall repair, and the contact was informed that the brakes were still unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100.
Mileage: 100
Front brakes noisy, vehicle shudders when brakes applied. Dealership inspected at 21,000 miles, replaced brake pads and turned rotors at 22,000 miles. Not under warranty, paid out of pocket. Now Toyota admits brake parts were faulty, has new part numbers to repair the defect, but parts have been on backorder for 6 months or more. Toyota needs to recall the defective brakes, and make a remedy (upgraded brake parts) available to ALL affected owners, including those that were denied coverage under warranty, and are still driving around on original, faulty brakes.
My brakes has been malfunctioning since last year November of 2023, the dealership is aware of this. It is putting me and others at risk because I am not sure when my brakes will fail, it has been inspected and confirmed by the dealership.
A month after I bought the truck, I took it to the dealer to have the brakes fixed because they were making a lot of noise. To this day, they have not found a solution to the problem. More than two years have passed since the date of purchase. The only thing they tell me is that Toyota knows about the problem but they still don't have a solution
Brakes have squealed since new. TSB was released but we've been waiting nearly 2 months for parts. Unacceptable.
Rotors have been replaced once already. Still vibrating severely during braking at 50-60 mph speeds. Especially downhill.
When you pass other vehicle on the hwy way break malfunction light come on and lock the back wheels. first time toyota call me for check up and they change spark plug and charge me more than $600. It happen next time and they call me for check up. i went to toyota and show my video and picture about break malfunction. they charge me for diagnosis $189 and found nothing. It will very danger if I pass the one lane county road and malfunction my break system So far no accidents, Ihave video and picture of dash board. date ,time and place that occurred. also receipts from toyata. thank you
I did a software update when it pops up on my LCD screen. Then the screen turns black and multiple sensors came on. LTA sensor Brake fail sensor crash senor and more. I look online and found out it has a apple car play issue that cause sensor to malfunction. I don't know if my truck is safe to drive. Afraid the airbag will blow up because of the crash sensor popping up and the failure brake senor also popping up. I took it took my local Toyota Dealer Sandia Toyota they didn't even look at it and made false accusations and try to charge me when my truck at 20000 miles. I took it to another dealer to get it fix. The incident started 4/6/2024 and today is 4/23/24 and I still have no truck to drive. I paid 70k for it but more concern for other. Please look into this issue making sure it safe for me and other.
I was driving on Highway 98 at 76 miles an hour. A light came on the dash said engine is low on power. Then immediately the car said to get to the side of the road the engine had shut off. This was in the middle of a drive on the interstate. I almost got hit by a truck. With family in the car. I made an appointment at our local dealer for all the recalls and they canceled it last Friday due to their service force being sick. This almost got me and my son killed.
On [XXX] I was driving in Connecticut when I realized we had taken the wrong directions. We were following my son’s girlfriend’s iphone which kept changing the directions. When we ended up with an over pass in a parking area I applied my brakes but the brakes didn’t work. I was trying to go left to take an alternate road but couldn’t stop. This kind of thing where the brakes or steering have been happening on and off since we got the truck I believe someone has hacked into it using a car kit is what I found under devices but then it disappeared. It also changes my truck into towing mode which is another thing it does. This is done everyday. I noticed I have no history on my truck. This is because it can be put on and taken off randomly. I believe it is a family members doing this to me. We had a Nissan and they did it to that too. It totaled our new camper. I will have to get USAA TO SEND ME SOME COPIES OF PAPERWORK SINCE SOMEONE KEEPS BREAKING INTO OUR APARTMENT AND STEALING THINGS INCLUDING PAPERWORK. Brakes are too large, it does not respond quick, I noticed this before buy our unit during a week I rented a tundra to try it due dealers had not vehicles to try. Once we bough ours after drive it enough I informed to the dealer but they said it were ok, but we have a couple incidents and decided to trade the vehicle loosing a lot of money in the trade to get a vehicle with good brakes, less than 2 weeks after we did the trade Toyota called us to see if we were ok due the detected in their system we had a crash, most likely the new owner had an accident
Twice it has felt like I was being rear ended. Something is making a slamming motion on the truck when it is stopped. First time was at a stop light, second time was backing up but stopped to put the truck in "drive". I have tried looking up to see if this truck was affected in a 2022 recall but the information is unavailable.
My vehicle since purchase has had squeaking brakes and the vehicle only has 4500 miles. At the dealership( Wesley Chapel Toyota) today I was told this was a known issue and that its a material issue that is still being addressed by Toyota , yet when I call Toyota directly they have no understanding that any recall is in place and opened a case ( [XXX] ) but also suggested let the NHTSA know. Breaks are critical and don't understand why this is not being addressed in a more expedient manner ; why wait until someone is seriously hurt. The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while reversing, there was an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. The contact was unsure if there was any warning light illuminated. Once the contact shifted the vehicle into drive(D) the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the brakes were operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving off from a red light, we experienced a severe jolt from when the emergency braking system engaged on its own. There was no vehicle in front us at the time of the incident. The sudden stop was so severe, I thought we had gotten rear ended. This is the second time this incident has happened to us in this vehicle. The first time my wife and 3 small children were accelerating from a stop sign. The truck came to a violent sudden stop. My wife was terrified. We took the vehicle to the dealership. They could not tell us what had happened. They reset the computer and told us it would not happen again. This last incident happen on 6/13/2023. The 2022 Tundra Limited Edition has 8,508. Miles. I bought a new vehicle to make sure my family would feel safe. We are terrified of driving this truck, because it may cause us to get into an accident.
While pulling forward, at a green light, the autonomous braking system activated as the vehicle in front of me was moving away. The automatic braking system should not have activated at this time. This the third time this has happened with this vehicle.
While moving in traffic, the automatic emergency brake system activated as traffic was moving away from the vehicle. There was no reason this system should have activated at this particular time. This is the second time this has occurred in this vehicle.
Brake rotors warped at 30,000 miles. Thats ridiculous. I went 230,000 on my 2011 Tundra with the original rotors when I sold it. There is an issue with the braking system or the technician may have improperly torqued my lug nuts. I personally think Toyota has an issue.
This message keeps popping up randomly (Parking support malfunction see your dealer) The infotainment keeps restarting its self randomly Both of these have happened more than 20times in the last 2weeks took it to the dealership they said there’s nothing they can do if they can’t duplicate the problem my truck has 20,514 miles all recalls have been done I drive a lot so the 16,000 before my standard 36 month warranty will be up soon The truck was looked at on 01/25/2023 I have video of the radio but can’t upload it
New 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid, 2000 miles, experienced a total system failure while driving, engine, Hybrid system, brake, parking brake etc. all systems failure causing a serious safety issue. Dealership called Toyota as diagnostics instructed them to. They want to replace computer but frankly they have no idea and are guessing making this vehicle completely unsafe as it can never be driven on a highway where another failure would likely cause injury or death. Dealers position is it's not their problem, it's Toyotas!!!
Hello, I have a new 2022 Toyota Tundra 2 WD, body type D CAB, Grade PLT, transmission 10AT, Engine 6-CYL with 5786 miles. I was at work ready to leave and when I turned on the ignition by pressing the button and the vehicle didn’t respond, never engine turn on. A few warnings started to showing up in the dashboard like Pre collision system malfunctioning, Parking break malfunctioning, Check Engine light, Secondary Collision break system malfunctioning. After 2 hours waiting the towing services took vehicle to dealer and tomorrow 12 / 10 / 2022 will be inspected by the dealer at Doral.
The brakes failed while traveling 72 miles per hour on cruise control, and controlled distance. I was traveling behind a semi truck in the third lane from the right on Interstate 5 near Stockton, calif. coming upon the truck the Tundra started to accelerate, I hit the brakes numerous times yet tundra continued to accelerate, so i hit cancel on speed control, thru into park, and navigated three lanes left in heavy traffic into the median, still hitting my breaks, Finally stopped the Tundra with emergency break, but took the right rear tire off the rim in my violent exit to the median, Inspection has been complete from Toyota mfg. saying i have a normal truck, Dealer can not confirm problem, there were no warning signs. I am a very experience large animal veterinarian driving over 3 million miles in my career with no accidents, or moving violations. I own a 2007 Tundra with 200,000 miles, no incidents, I know where the brakes are on a tundra.
The Trailer Brake Controller is set to automatically be off until you setup a trailer. So yes, the problem is very repeatable, it's the default setting in the Tundra. I traveled a Rocky Mountain mountain pass towing a 6,500# trailer and had extreme brake fade because unknownst to me the Trailer Brake Controller was off because I didn't setup a trailer in the dash. I manually controlled the gears and kept in 2nd gear down the entire grade. My driving history is towing trailers with a old Ford Ranger ('95?) and 2014 Ford Expedition. The Ford has brake controls and I would use it to tow 3,000#. I don't remember if the Ford Ranger had a brake controller. So my experience is limited. I bought a brand new 22 Toyota Tundra and read the manual for pulling a travel trailer (TT). I upgraded my travel trailer from 3,000# to 6,500# GVWR. It was essentially my first towing trip with both vehicles. I plugged in the TT. Dashboard said "Trailer Detected". I turned the dial in the middle to "Tow Mode". Those signals said to me everything is good. My mistake: When I adjusted the gain manually in the dash it said "Trailer Brake Controller Off". In my mind, I interpreted that as the manual controller was off. Not sure why. I should have stopped there. But dash kept saying "Trailer Detected" so I kept driving. Long story short, after driving the pass and nearly losing the brakes I stopped what I was doing and spent 30 minutes playing in the dash and reading the manual more. I setup the trailer I was driving in the dashboard. No where in the manual does it say "trailer brake controller off until you setup trailer in dash." When I set it up in the dash, I realized that the brake controller defualt was off, even if it says "trailer detected". I could tell because the manual brake controller started working.
Automatic braking engaged with no vehicle or objects in front. I was starting to move after sitting at a red light, at approximately 20 MPH the vehicle engaged the automatic emergency brakes bringing the vehicle to a stop in traffic. I had to depress the brake pedal hard in order to deactivate the automatic braking system.
