Vehicle failed to accelerate after I attempted to merge onto 3 lane road from a driveway. No chimes, warning or emergency braking occurred but the vehicle had no response for a second or two. There is a throttle lag when I depress the acceleration pedal, the vehicle doesnt not move for a period of time ranging from 0.5 seconds to 3 seconds. This is more prominent when performing a creeping start where the vehicle has not fully stopped.
On a cold start, or if you drive with the vehicle in normal mode, from my understanding, vehicles are now fly by wire, the computer has a lag that if you attempt to pull out in front of someone, the truck will simply fail to go, then after a delay.It will take off like a rocket, to circumvent this issue, I have found.If you drive in sport mode, it tends to have less of a delay. But it's a serious safety concern.Along with the other issues with these vehicles, I have had a few close calls, where the throttle response was incredibly delayed.
The vehicle hesitates when starting from a stop. It feels like the engine dies. This was a previous “recall”. Vehicle was “fixed” but still happening. I’ve informed Toyota of issue. No resolution. I’ve almost been hit twice at an intersection because of this.

The truck has a hesitation to start from stop/slow state. This is concerning because when I start to accelerate, sometimes it doesn’t want to go for a 1-2 second time period making it unsafe to pull into traffic. It is sporadic and seems to happen more when I start and stop in quick succession.
Vehicle experiences lag or hesitation from stop.
Lack of throttle response. Takes 5 seconds for the throttle to respond to legal input making it dangerous when accelerating.
The major throttle lag. When leaving from a stop it takes a few seconds of pressing the gas before the truck even begins to accelerate. I have had multiple issues with throttle lag when dealing with oncoming traffic. No lights have indicated any issues and all the dealerships can tell me is it’s a common issue.
Unknown what component failed. Safety was at risk because the delay in the throttle response can result in get in an accident. I can't reproduce the problem. It happens at random. The vehicle has never been inspected by anyone about this issue. No warning whatsoever. It doesn't happen ofen. Some times it's worse than others.
Truck will hesitate to respond to throttle pedal input when attempting to accelerate from a stop. This has occurred numerous times over the 3 years I’ve owned it and appears to happen randomly. This 1-2 second delay puts driver safety and other drivers at risk due to inability to quickly enter or cross lanes of traffic.
Occasionally when accelerator is pressed at a stop sign or light there is hesitation before the engine rpms increase. Also happens frequently going up my steep driveway at under 5mph, at half to 3/4 up my 100 yard driveway it will just almost stall out to an idle for a few seconds then will continue on as nothing happened
The vehicle has a delay in the throttle in some situations immediately following a deceleration. For example, when braking onto a yielding on ramp to check for traffic while coming to a near stop then pressing the throttle there is an obvious lag. That second or so of lag often results in the tires spinning due to a spike in throttle. In more than one instance I've experienced it from a dead stop but this is not as common as a slow deceleration to a roll.
The vehicle's accelerator consistently fails to respond when entering traffic from a stop or a rolling stop. Toyota attempted to remedy the problem with a TSB, but the problem returned within a week.
Occasionally (more frequently when cold) the vehicle does not accelerate from a stop or rolling stop. You depress the accelerator pedal and nothing happens, the vehicle does not accelerate. After a few seconds the vehicle will sometimes catch and rapidly accelerate and other times you have to release the pedal and depress the pedal again.
When stopped at a traffic light waiting to make a left turn, I accelerated to start the turn. The truck moved forward slightly and stopped. All throttle response was gone and I was not able to move from the intersection and oncoming traffic. About 4 seconds later the throttle response returned and it drove normally. I was almost hit by an oncoming car for being stopped in the road. This occurs frequently at stop signs when I stop and go to accelerate. It is dangerous to not know if the truck will respond or not while turning in traffic.
I am writing to file an official complaint regarding a safety issue involving the engine on my 2022 Toyota Tundra, which is subject to an open recall. The component in question has reportedly experienced a malfunction that presents a severe safety hazard. Specifically, I have been informed that there is a potential defect that could lead to the engine catching fire, as indicated by the recall notice. However, I have also been informed that no remedy is currently available for this issue, which has left me with an unresolved and potentially dangerous vehicle. **Safety Risk Assessment:** This issue places both my safety and the safety of others at significant risk. An engine fire could occur suddenly, which would pose an immediate danger to passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. The inability to have the defect remedied promptly has heightened my concerns, as I am left with limited options for safely using my vehicle. **Confirmation and Inspection:** The issue has been acknowledged by Toyota through an official recall, but a dealer has not been able to inspect or repair the vehicle due to the lack of an available fix for this defect. On three occasions my check engine light came on. My panel board lite up like a Christmas tree. Went to auto store to have it checked out , they were able clear it off. Backtracked 38 miles to find the problem. Rough start at times. Cruise control has shut off by itself for no reason 2/3 times this past year Driver side seat that cover seat controls has been replaced once and second is broke again. The same way as the first.
While on highway truck decelerated on its own. We were trying 70 mph and the truck dropped to 60 mph while the gas pedal was still manually engaged. Its becoming an increaingly regular problem that the car will not accelerate from a complete stop, even with gas pedal fully engaged. Potential for accident is high, as there is no reliability when pulling out into traffic. Dealership ran diagnositic check during service, was unable to pin-point issue - - is also 2 to 3 months out on service schedule, so issue was reported early June to dealership but unable to service vehicle until mid-August. Dealerships advice was to report directly to Toyota - since no recall remedy was issued for engine issue and the acceleration issue isn't specifically named in their most recent recall for the 2022 model.
On 07/10 while accelerating from red to green light, at around 50mph truck shook and alerted my attention to dash/odometer because of immediate slowing of truck. Noticed alert for “Engine Power Loss” and “Brake Failure” and instructed to see dealer. Could not go above 30mph at 2500rpm, thankfully I was 5 minutes from home. Had Tundra towed to dealer. They got Toyota involved and started a case. As of 07/12, dealer was instructed to reset engine valve settings, cleared alerts, and did normal schedule maintenance. I was instructed to drive directly to dealer or pull over where I was and have a technician drive to my location so they could further assess this issue. As if they work 24/7 and would drive outside of city limits…I put 100+ miles a day on my truck for my work commute.
Dead pedal/no acceleration when pedal was depressed. Monday, June 24th, 7:26am zero throttle when taking off from stop light. Delay of 2-3 seconds. Wednesday, June 19th, 5:14pm. Zero throttle response when taking off from a green light. Delay of 3-4 seconds. 3:06pm June 28, zero throttle response for 2 seconds when taking off from stop light. 3:15 pm same thing happened. - Personal safety was at risk when traffic around me had to quickly stop so they didn’t rear end me. Problem has a TSB from Toyota which has been performed on my vehicle twice. With the defect returning. Vehicle was previously inspected by dealer in July 2023 and TSB update performed. No warning lights exhibited.
The vehicle suffers extreme throttle lag. Pulling away from a stop sign, or turning into traffic the vehicle does not respond to gentle acceleration. After a few seconds the vehicle jumps forward almost as though it jumps into gear. This has left me sitting in intersections and has placed me in several dangerous situations. This is a safety hazard.
Throttle sticks. When pressing acceleration pedal down from a stop or from a change of reverse to drive, there is a 2 second lag. This issue can cause serious problems if you’re pulling out from a stop sign. A burst of acceleration then happens after the 2 second lag, causing cabin disturbance.
the accelerator is very hesitant from a complete stop. it hesitates and has almost caused several accidents. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it from for its 1st maintenance and told them about the issue and they could not find anything wrong with it. This is a constant persistent complaint. I pick up the vehicle with 27 miles and occurs at every stop, every day. The engine can be hot or cold.There is not any time that this does not happen. They gave me a loaner 2023 tundra and it did not have any issues with the accelerator.
The brakes failed while traveling 72 miles per hour on cruise control, and controlled distance. I was traveling behind a semi truck in the third lane from the right on Interstate 5 near Stockton, calif. coming upon the truck the Tundra started to accelerate, I hit the brakes numerous times yet tundra continued to accelerate, so i hit cancel on speed control, thru into park, and navigated three lanes left in heavy traffic into the median, still hitting my breaks, Finally stopped the Tundra with emergency break, but took the right rear tire off the rim in my violent exit to the median, Inspection has been complete from Toyota mfg. saying i have a normal truck, Dealer can not confirm problem, there were no warning signs. I am a very experience large animal veterinarian driving over 3 million miles in my career with no accidents, or moving violations. I own a 2007 Tundra with 200,000 miles, no incidents, I know where the brakes are on a tundra.
Randomly when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll (less than 5 MPH) the throttle doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds then the truck will surge. When I say it doesn't respond I mean nothing happens no RPM increase or anything. The dealership wants me to believe that it is turbo lag, but that is just a decrease in power, not total loss of acceleration. This has been an issue since delivery.
In stop and go traffic, when navigating round-abouts, and when accelerating away from controlled intersections (stop signals, stop signs, and yield signs), throttle control of the vehicle is inconsistent and unpredictable at slow speeds (between 1-3 mph). It behaves most poorly when attempting to accelerate after slowing, but not completely stopping. A situation drivers encounter often at yield signs, round-abouts, and stop signals that change to green while you are slowing. I have attempted to enter traffic with appropriate time/space and sufficiently pressed the accelerator only to have my vehicle sit stationary for another moment or two before lurching forward. By this time, my margin for error with approaching traffic was rapidly closing. Other times my vehicle has lurched forward when I only pressed the accelerator a small amount. I am aware of the lag in accelerating, but the lag in that 1-3 mph range is not consistent, so I can't consistently adjust for it. Recently, the truck lurched suddenly out of the parking spot I was in as soon as I took my foot off of the brake pedal. I was attempting to roll forward to have a better view around the vehicle parked next to me (I had backed into the parking spot). But rather than roll slightly forward, the truck lurched a couple feet. I caught it before impeding approaching cross traffic. But the sudden lurch visibly surprised the other driver and my passenger in the vehicle with me. (I will use this incident as the incident for the date report below, but the unpredictable throttle response is an ongoing issue that I deal with daily). I reported this issue to the dealer shortly after purchase of the vehicle. A field engineer from Toyota came out and test drove my vehicle, but I have heard nothing since. The service writer at the dealership acknowledged that other gen 3 Tundras he has test driven have behaved in a similar manner. My previous gen Tundra did not behave this way, nor do my other vehicles.
The engine V6 turbo wastegate is defective. The problem causes a Reduced Engine Power. Toyota and its dealership are trying to hide the problem from consumer. This vehicle is with Michaels Toyota of Bellevue in Washington. There are numerous YouTube buyer with the same problem. This problem requires the repair shop to lift up the body of the truck from the frame to get to the turbo part of the engine.
