2023 Toyota Tundra experienced repeated engine stalling and vehicle lock-up while driving on public roads, including in an intersection. During one incident, the driver was thrown forward into the steering wheel. A Toyota dealer attempted repair by replacing the neutral/park safety switch, but the repair failed and the dangerous condition persisted immediately after. The vehicle has been removed from use due to safety concerns. The issue is consistent with known engine stalling concerns affecting certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles. The vehicle is unsafe to operate.

Throttle lagging, truck won’t accelerate at low speeds and is very jerky

Dec 29, 2025

I am writing to report a serious issue with my vehicle’s throttle response. When accelerating from a stop, the vehicle consistently hesitates and feels as though it may stall, leaving me vulnerable in traffic or at intersections. This problem has already resulted in three very close calls, two of which required police involvement. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle under these conditions. I have attempted to trade out of the vehicle, but the offers I’ve received have been significantly reduced due to the widely known nature of this issue. Please advise on the next steps to address this matter. Safety is my top priority, and I believe this situation requires immediate attention. Thank you for your prompt response.

I have a 2023 I-force max hybrid and I’m concerned about the non hybrid model engine shares the same engine characteristics and parts use for the I-force max hybrid engine. I want to be on record if I have an engine failure due to debris in Toyota engine manufacturing process for my vehicle. On December 23, 2025, while driving at highway speeds, I began to hear a loud knocking sound. The sounds increased and a "low oil pressure" warning appeared on the dash. I began to loose power and the knocking sounds increased. I was able to carefully get the truck off the highway and parked to be towed to a local dealership. The loss of power while on the highway put myself and my family at risk due to not being able to keep at speed with traffic, and the possibility of being stuck on the side of a highway if I was unable to make it to the next exit. The vehicle experienced the same symptoms prior to the engine seizing in July of 2025. At that time the vehicle was not included in a recall campaign, and a short block replacement, rather than a complete engine replacement, was completed by Toyota.

Dec 24, 2025

While driving today the engine check light turned on, and the engine turned off (stalled) while in the middle of the road with a good amount of traffic around me. I pulled off to the side of the road and gave the engine a minute. I turned the truck back on again, the engine sounded very rough turning on and rough while driving. After a minute or two of driving, the engine light turned on again, and the engine stopped (stalled) again while in the middle of the road. I stopped this time for two minutes or so and turned the engine on again. I then proceeded to try to make it home, which I accomplished, but the truck's engine sounded rough and with a chattering sound (engine knocking) even when idling. I have received a recall notice letter concerning " Certain 2022-2024 Model Year Tundra Vehicles Engine May Stall During Driving." I possess the letter with the NHTSA Recall Number and the Toyota Recall Number. In the letter, it mentions the condition for which it is being recalled. The conditions are as stated in the letter. "Machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start, and/or a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power while driving can increase the risk of a crash." My truck has experienced all of the disfunctions that are stated in the recall letter. I would like for Toyota to look into this and remedy this problem before it ends in a major fatal crash or any other unfortunate circumstance. Thank you!

Dec 23, 2025

This is ridiculous if there’s debris in the engine of a risk for it and risk for the engine to go I want a new vehicle there’s 18k miles on this truck brand new shape and I will be putting my family in this. This is a risk I’m not willing to take. This needs to be bought back

Dec 23, 2025

The hybrid version of the Toyota Tundra uses the same base V35A-derived engine architecture, block casting, bearing design, and oiling system as the recalled non-hybrid vehicles. Toyota has not demonstrated that hybrid engines were manufactured differently or are immune to the defect that prompted the recall. In towing conditions, an internal combustion engine failure creates an immediate safety hazard even if limited electric propulsion remains available. Electric-only operation provides severely reduced power, limited speed, and restricted torque, making highway merging, grade climbing, or maintaining safe traffic flow unsafe while towing. Retaining minimal electric motion does not equate to maintaining safe propulsion under load. Additionally, a catastrophic engine failure may introduce metal debris, oil pressure loss, or thermal imbalance that can compromise shared drivetrain and hybrid coupling components. The presence of an electric motor does not mitigate the underlying defect risk or the secondary damage potential. Toyota’s distinction between hybrid and non-hybrid vehicles appears to be regulatory and financial rather than engineering-based. The same defect risk exists regardless of the hybrid system. I request that NHTSA evaluate whether Toyota’s exclusion of hybrid vehicles is based on actual engineering differences or solely on regulatory interpretation.

Dec 18, 2025

My Toyota Tundra (2023) has a recall notice due to possible debris in the engine that is over a year and a half old. This still has not been repaired by the manufacturer. I can hear sounds like knocking coming from the engine and I am concerned that the vehicle could stall or stop while driving on the highway with my children and cause a severe crash. How do I get the vehicle engine replaced expeditiously? The Recall is 24V381.

Dec 17, 2025

The vehicle is affected by a manufacturer safety recall related to the engine. According to the recall, machining debris may not have been properly removed during engine production. This can lead to engine knocking, rough running, failure to start, loss of power, or the engine stalling while driving. The manufacturer has stated that the fix will require replacement of the engine assembly, but the remedy is not yet available. Because of this, the vehicle continues to be driven with a known engine defect and no repair timeline. The main safety concern is the risk of sudden loss of power or engine stall while driving, which could be dangerous, especially at highway speeds or in traffic. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer, who confirmed that the recall applies but could not perform a repair, provide a timeline, or confirm that the vehicle is safe to drive while waiting for the remedy. No crash or injury has occurred so far. There have been no warning lights or specific failure events yet, but the concern is based on the acknowledged manufacturing defect and the possibility that the issue could occur without warning. The vehicle is still being driven because there is no available repair, no clear safety guidance from the manufacturer, and no alternative transportation or loaner vehicle provided. The concern remains that the vehicle could unexpectedly lose power or stall, putting the driver and others at risk.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the message to take the vehicle to the dealer to check the engine was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that the messages were displayed while on a long trip. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

When accelerating from a stop it has a severe delay. I’ve read now this is not normal. Sometimes the delay can be 1-2 seconds causing confusions at like stop signs and such as I’ve pressed the gas and get nothing. Not reported to dealership but will on next oil change as this has been a persistent problem since purchase.

Dec 13, 2025

While driving under normal conditions, my 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Hybrid experienced a sudden and severe loss of propulsion. The vehicle abruptly entered fail-safe (limp) mode and would not accelerate beyond approximately 5–10 mph. This occurred without warning and created an immediate safety hazard in traffic. Multiple warning messages illuminated simultaneously, including: Hybrid System Malfunction, Check Engine, Smart Stop System Malfunction, and Advanced Ultrasonic Detection Malfunction. The hybrid system effectively shut down and the vehicle could not maintain normal road speed. I brought the vehicle to a Toyota dealership. The dealership performed only ECM and hybrid ECU software updates and cleared codes. No mechanical inspection, oil pressure analysis, particulate inspection, turbo system evaluation, hybrid motor synchronization testing, or engineering-level diagnostics were performed. Toyota Corporate subsequently stated that the software update was the “final” resolution and declined further diagnostics. I was advised to return to the dealership if the issue reoccurs. This failure mode matches the documented loss-of-propulsion behavior described in Toyota’s V35A engine machining-defect recall (sudden power loss, limp mode, cascading system failures). Hybrid models are currently excluded despite using the same engine platform and exhibiting identical symptoms. Sudden loss of propulsion at road speed presents a serious crash risk. This appears to be a safety-related defect that is not being adequately investigated or remedied for hybrid models.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon depressing the accelerator pedal while at complete stop at a red traffic light or while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the transmission software was reset; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to another local dealer, where an unknown engine recall was performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Dec 12, 2025

Hesitation from vehicle when pressing gas coming from a rolling stop. Late response from vehicle which may increase risk of crash or injury when vehicle does not move.

Dec 12, 2025

When slowing down and then accelerating OR coming to a stop on an incline and then gassing it, the truck will stall for 1-2 seconds and then launch off. This has almost caused a wreck multiple times as I get stuck in the roadway for 1-2 seconds before being able to cross the lane and complete my turn. The dealership has said they've heard of the issue but could not duplicate it. No dashboard lights came on during the power failure.

Dec 11, 2025

Approximately 10 minutes into an ordinary drive home from work, the engine abruptly began making extremely loud noise, as if metal or bricks were being thrown inside the engine. Within moments, the engine rapidly lost power and then completely shut down. At no time did any warning lights, engine lights, or malfunction indicators appear on the dashboard prior to or during the failure. This incident represents a serious safety hazard. This vehicle is my primary tow vehicle for transporting a horse trailer, and had this failure occurred while towing, I would have had no control, no engine power, and no ability to maintain speed, creating a high risk of a major collision or highway accident. The fact that the failure occurred with zero warning makes the danger even more significant. Toyota has confirmed that this engine failure falls under the active recall. Despite this, the mode of failure—sudden shutdown while driving without any alert—poses a severe and immediate safety risk to drivers, passengers, and the general public.

Dec 10, 2025

The truck “detected” a warning collision when there was no one in front of me which made the engine lag. There for causing me to come to an abrupt stop from 40 mph. I stepped on the gas to get back up to speed with traffic beside and behind me and there was no power almost causing an accident. This is the 3rd time this truck has done this in 6 months.

Dec 5, 2025

I was driving on the highway at 55 mph when my engine suddenly began making a loud knocking noise and lost power. I immediately pulled over, but as I was doing so, the vehicle lost all power and the engine light came on. This was a dangerous situation because I was in the middle of traffic and almost got rear-ended as I couldn’t keep up with the traffic speed. Let alone the warning light didn’t come on until I lost all power to the engine. This is a 2023 Hybrid Limited with under 15,000 miles! I could not believe it as I just got rid of my 2022 Tundra Limited with engine issues and purposely got a hybrid to avoid engine problems. Toyota, what on earth are you doing?!

Dec 4, 2025

My vehicle has same engine as all the ones recalled, even built in same factory. Why isn’t there a recall on my engine as well.

Dec 3, 2025

Huge delay in the throttle response. You press on the throttle and there is sometimes a hesitation and the vehicle will not move or is jerky.

Dec 3, 2025

When accelerating from a low speed (under 15mpg) there is significant throttle lag causing risk of accident

Nov 28, 2025

On several occasions I have a dead pedal situation on acceleration from a brief stop. When you press the accelerator, the truck does not accelerate immediately. Instead there is a second or two pause before truck responds to accelerator input. When crossing traffic, this hesitation has caused several situations in which i have almost been t-boned.

Nov 25, 2025

My 2023 Toyota Tundra has an intermittent issue where the throttle lags or hesitates when accelerating from a complete stop. The problem occurs unpredictably and causes the truck to fail to respond when pressing the gas pedal. The issue appears to be related to the engine or throttle response system, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction puts my safety and the safety of others at risk because the hesitation can occur while turning left across traffic or merging into traffic, leaving the truck momentarily stalled in the path of oncoming vehicles. The problem has not yet been officially reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center, but it has happened multiple times under normal driving conditions. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. There were no warning lights, messages, or other indicators before or during the hesitation; it happens without any prior notice.

Nov 25, 2025

The truck will hesitate for a brief second while trying to accelerate from both stop and in drive where it'll jolt you forward. This will also happen when shifting into driving and it jolts you forward. This is a huge safety risk because my truck can stall when i need the truck to go. I have brought it up to the dealership which told me multiple times as "normal". No lights has popped up but I know my other cars doesn't stall when giving gas.

Nov 25, 2025

Over the course of ownership I have had frequent instances of loss of power and/or lack of acceleration resulting in almost stalling out while trying to take off. This causes dangerous situations when trying to pull out into traffic because you never know when the vehicle might hesitate and crest unsafe distances between you and other moving vehicles.

Nov 25, 2025

Throttle Lag/Hesitation when starting from a standstill. Same also occurs when slowly going up a hill, letting off throttle and then back on throttle - engine no response and causes vehicle to roll backwards before engine/transmission catch on again. No service center has looked at this issue yet.

Nov 25, 2025

I experience delayed throttle response and throttle lag daily. Acceleration is unpredictable. The vehicle barely moves in some cases when pressing the gas pedal. Other times, the tires will chirp. The vehicle will sometimes hesitate so long to accelerate, that I've almost been T-boned and I've held up traffic. It seems like the truck thinks I'm going to run into something, even when there's nothing in front of me. The delay is sometimes 3-5 seconds before it will allow any acceleration. This seems like a huge safety issue, not being able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic and having such an unpredictable, and often delayed throttle response.

Nov 18, 2025

I was driving my 2023 Toyota Tundra when the engine shutdown while going 55mph, the speed limit. Truck shutdown as I approached a long, curvy hill, felt like I was in great danger and any vehicles around me. There was no warning, had no idea what was going on. Took vehicle to dealership, after 24 hours I went back to dealership to check on it. Was told they didn’t look at it because they knew the engine was bad, needed replaced. There is a recall for this and was told there is no remedy yet. Also, they say they don’t have a vehicle for me to drive. I paid $65000 cash to have a vehicle to drive and keep me and my grandkids safe, now nothing!

Nov 10, 2025

October 6th 2025, I was leaving my place of work and started to here a slight banging/knocking sound, the vehicle lost instant power and I the engine quit running, I have taken the vehicle to the Toyota dealer and they have confirmed a internal bearing failure in the engine. The vehicle is not part of the engine recall but appears to be the same issue. The Toyota dealership has agreed that it is still with in the warranty period after review of there regional representative and agreed to replace the engine short block and rebuild the remaining engine components. I towed it to the dealer October 6th and have been given a rough timeline for repairs to be performed roughly around December based on the availability of parts.

Nov 6, 2025

Just asking for an investigation. Same engines in vehicle year 2023 gas only models have been recalled for safety because the engine locks up while driving causing a this safety issue. My model year is 2023 and is a hybrid but has not been added to the recall. The hybrid should be included in the recall as well since it is the exact same engine. This is a dangerous situation for me and my family as well as others I am on the road with.

Oct 28, 2025

My 2023 Toyota Tundra experienced a complete engine failure at approximately 25,000 miles. The vehicle suddenly shut off while driving and had to be towed to the dealer, where technicians determined that the engine had seized due to a spun bearing and a broken connecting rod. Toyota replaced the short block under warranty. While I appreciate that Toyota covered the repair, I believe this failure is directly related to the same manufacturing defect that led to Toyota’s ongoing Tundra engine recall. However, my VIN was not included in that recall campaign. Based on the nature of the failure, timing, and identical symptoms reported by many other Tundra owners, it appears Toyota’s recall does not fully capture all affected engines. In my case, the dealership documented that the piston connecting rod broke apart and that the main bearing spun—issues consistent with the debris and machining defects referenced in Toyota’s recall. Rather than performing a complete engine replacement (as done for covered VINs), Toyota only replaced the short block assembly, leaving other components potentially contaminated or compromised. This situation raises a broader safety concern: engine seizure at highway speeds poses a sudden loss-of-power risk that could lead to accidents. I urge NHTSA to investigate whether Toyota’s current recall scope is too narrow and to determine if additional Tundra engines—including mine—should be included.

Oct 24, 2025

Throttle body stopped working car went in to limp Mode on high way randomly multiple times till it finally just gave out randomly again on highway. Could no longer drive had to drive at 5mph to nearest dealer

Oct 22, 2025

When from a stop vehicle does not accelerate as normal, especially while turning. Lag and hesitation is experienced for a moment and then catches causing a rapid acceleration. When turning across oncoming lanes of traffic the unexpected lag and lack of acceleration considerably increases risk of side collision from cross traffic and risk of rear collision from traffic behind due to inability to know consistent time, speed, and acceleration needed to safely cross lanes of traffic and expected acceleration speed anticipated by vehicles from rear. Concern has been brought up to dealer and properly notified. Dealer was unable to replicate. No dash warnings appeared.

Oct 21, 2025

The engine of my 2023 Toyota Tundra failed at approximately 34,500 miles. The failure involved sudden loss of oil pressure and severe internal damage, with metal shavings found in the oil and oil filter. The oil filter itself detached during the incident and was later recovered with metallic debris inside. The vehicle and the recovered filter are available for inspection upon request. While accelerating from a stop light on a busy morning public road, the engine suddenly lost power, illuminated multiple warning lamps, and entered limp mode with “low oil pressure” and “engine malfunction” messages. The truck rapidly leaked oil, creating a roadway hazard and putting me, my wife & son, and other drivers at risk of accident. I was able to limp the vehicle home .5 miles from the incident at reduced speed, but complete engine seizure was a possibility. Toyota of Fort Walton Beach inspected the vehicle, confirmed metal shavings in the oil pan, documented codes P05202 and P052049 (low oil pressure and oil pressure sensor stuck in range), and noted “oil was very metallic.” The vehicle was inspected by Toyota dealership technicians and corporate representatives. I also have possession of the oil filter and photos/videos from the inspection. At the moment of failure, the dash displayed low oil pressure, check engine light, and a message regarding engine/electronic malfunction. Prior to this event, there were no warning signs — the truck had been serviced two weeks earlier at 33,360 miles, and I drove approximately 1,200 miles without incident until the catastrophic failure. This failure matches the description in Toyota Recall 24V-381. My vehicle’s build date (February 27, 2023) is less than two weeks outside the published recall production window, yet the symptoms and inspection results are identical. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate whether additional 2023 Toyota Tundra vehicles outside the current recall window are affected, as my case demonstrates the same hazards.

Oct 1, 2025

At 65,000 mile engine died. Just the same as the recall for this truck but mine wasn't in the recall. Since it was over 60,000 miles its not covered by Toyota. WE have a third party warranty we bought at the dealer that is saying we have to pay $7,000 out of pocket

PLEASE I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME, NO ONE IS DOING NOTHING IT BEEN A YEAR AND MY CAR IS GETTING WORST, AND I STILL MAKING PAYING ON THE CAR THAT I CAN NOT ENJOY. I NEED MY CAR FIX ASAP.

Sep 27, 2025

The engine misfired and failed twice in one year, and the vehicle is currently available for inspection. Both times the engine failed, I was on the freeway, which nearly caused cars and semi-trucks to rear-end me. I had a convoy of vehicles behind me and had to move to the right lane very cautiously. I reported the problem to the AutoNation Toyota dealership on Gulf Freeway. Yes, the dealership mechanics have inspected it, and it has been at the dealership since August 5, 2025. There were warning lights on the dashboard when the engine failed.

Sep 24, 2025

Engine blew up, not on recall list

Sep 11, 2025

I want Toyota to expand their engine recalls to 2023+ models. The issue with their engine remains with 2023+ models and it is a huge safety risk to allow a 6000lb truck to run on highways with the risk of the engine turning off and potentially crashing.

I was driving down the [XXX] at 70 mph when suddenly the engine just went dead. There was no PRIOR warning as the orange engine symbol came on the dash at exactly the same time as the engine died. There were other warning symbols that came on the dash also at the same time. I then had to maneuver in heavy traffic without power steering or power brake at 70 mph to the side of the road which was very difficult and I felt very unsafe. It was frightening to say the least. I called the closest Toyota Dealership located in Bristol, Tn and they sent a tow truck to pick it up and take to their shop. I am now waiting for them to determine the extent of the damage. To be clear we have documentation of every required maintenance done. This truck is about 1 1/2 yrs old with only 68,000 miles on it! Jul 28, 2025

Vehicle losses a lot of power after being in a stop sign and trying to accelerate, there is also a ticking sound in the engine. With my fuel my car shows that there’s a full tank but in reality there is half a tank.

Jul 22, 2025

I have been having issues with engine hesitation, especially when pulling out onto the highway. More noticeable as we live out of town and our entrance is on a highway curve. As when I pull out, the response time is bad and had nearly caused us to get into a accident.

Jul 16, 2025

The engine seized up with 25,000 miles on it, on May 25th, 2025. I was not listed as under the engine recall, so they did a "Short Block" rebuild under warranty. I feel like this is insufficient and my vehicle should be under the recall for an entire new engine. My safety was put at risk because the vehicle shut down out of nowhere on a busy highway with narrow shoulders. I had to wait on the side of the road until a tow truck could get to me. Dealer confirmed it was seized up and ordered the short block replacement. No warning at all before the engine seized up.

Jun 29, 2025

While on vacation, approximately 400 miles from home, the engine dash light came on. The truck seem to be running fine but I did notice a different smell coming from the exhaust. I was able to return home and took it to the dealership as soon as possible. The dealership, Stephen Wade Toyota, contacted me and said that my driver side Cadillac converter had gone bad. They had no explanation of why it went out, but I would need a new one at $2,143.15. I asked if the Cadillac converter was covered under any type of warranty and the dealership informed me that in Utah it expired at 35,000 miles. Truck has 66,000 miles and regular maintenance has been performed on the vehicle. It seems extremely premature that a 2 year old vehicle with 65,000 miles would be experiencing a Cadillac converter failure.

Driving down the highway going about 80-85 mph and the engine just shuts offs. Get dash message to pull over engine has lost power. RPM gauge is at Zero (0). I eventually am able to pull over to the shoulder in which I shut the engine off. Tried to restart and engine wouldn't restart. After 5 min pass, I am able to start the truck back up and drive off. But now the confidence that my truck is safe to drive on the highway has been shot and I worry if I should even take it on the highway again. Took into local Toyota dealer to have it looked at and of course, service technician does not get any computer codes saying what happened. They could not duplicate the event, so they are putting me back in the truck with no explanation as to why it happened and if it will ever happen again. There was no true fix for this issue, just to bring it back it it happens again. The chances that if and when it does happen, there probably won't be a computer code again.

Hesitation when trying to accelerate. When I start my truck in the morning And hit the gas there’s a hesitation before it will move and When I come to a stop sign and hit the gas there’s always a hesitation. When the truck finally starts to move it jumps quickly forward from pressing down on the gas pedal and it’s almost caused me to rear end someone multiple times.

May 12, 2025 Fire

On February 25, 2025, I took my 2023 Toyota Tundra VIN# [XXX] to Stokes Toyota Beaufort, SC, for its 45,000-mile service. Just 300 meters after leaving the dealership, my truck caught fire, causing significant damage and putting my safety at risk. I am sharing pictures of the incident and the warning messages I received on the dashboard. I was on my way back to the dealership when this happened. At first, the truck was shaking and losing power. I managed to make a U-turn to return to the dealership, but then the engine stalled. At that moment, I started seeing warning messages on the dashboard. I immediately called the dealership to inform them that I was experiencing issues with my truck. While still on the phone with the dealership, I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the hood. Moments later, flames started emerging from the hood. I quickly hung up and called 911. 1- What component or system failed or malfunctioned? I believe the engine and possibly the brakes failed (based on the dashboard warning messages). 2- How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Within minutes, my truck burned completely. I am grateful I didn't have my children with me at the time. 3- Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I received formal letters from Toyota Manufacturer, Toyota Distributor, and the dealership, stating that they are sorry for what happened but cannot offer any assistance with my claim. 4- Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes, the insurance company, fire marshal, dealership, Toyota, and Engineering Analysis Associates (EAA) have all inspected the vehicle. 5- Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure? Yes, the truck was shaking, losing power, and eventually stopped completely, displaying warning messages on the dashboard. accelerator hesitates when pressing the accelerator at almost a complete stop.

May 9, 2025

Vibration and noise in the engine and front wheel bearing

May 9, 2025

Periodic sluggish gas pedal response. Often from a stop when pressing the gas pedal the truck lurches a little forward then slows down as if I took my foot off the pedal right after pressing it. Nearly got rear-ended a couple times.

Hesitation on accelerator going from reverse o drive or park to drive

Apr 27, 2025

Vehicle was accelerating down hill when ENGINE STOPPED LIGHT came on STOP IN A SAFE PLACE. I could not accelerate the gas or control the steering vehicle glided halfway to the side of the road before stopping. Engine stopped completely when exiting the vehicle smoke was coming out of the front hood. I could not shift the vehicles gears the system was completely locked up. STEERING POWER LOW light came on. ENGINE STOPPED light came on. Tried to contact roadside assistance no one came for over 3 hours. Neighbors called a police officer and they had to tow it due to it being in an unsafe location (blocking traffic on a two lane road) without street lights. Vehicle was towed to Marietta Toyota dealership.

Hesitation when driving when first start the truck and after the trucks been on awhile. Always has been doing this

Feb 19, 2025

Hesitation when trying to accelerate. When I come to a stop sign and hit the gas, there’s always a hesitation

Feb 18, 2025

There is a lag in the accelerator. It happens 10 to 20% of the time. It is a one or two second lag on the gas pedal. Pretty critical when turning out into traffic. I have al most been hit twice due to car not accelerating properly. I have taken to the dealer twice. They have told me they could not recreate when driving

Feb 18, 2025

Hesitation From Stop and Surge Concerns. this may cause traffic surge, collison in my front for having no control of the speed if I end up pressing the gas all the way which it cause a quick surge of speed, due to the hesitation when pressing the gas, this happened to my car for a lot of times now which I ignored it until I saw the help from the Toyota Tundra forum, that I can actually send a report to NHTSA.

2023 Toyota Tundra with 31,000 miles on it and the main bearings was knocking and engine about to cease, Toyota has a recall for this exact same thing on truck that where produced two months earlier so I am told they are replacing the hole engine but for mine Toyota only wants to just do a half block when that main bearings goes it will put metal shavings though out the engine that’s why they are replacing the hole engine why not my truck. Have bought 4 Toyota had a 07 Tundra from new put 320,000 miles on it not a lick of trouble and cost half the price. No warning lights came on. Thought engine was going to explode. Has only been serviced and inspected by Toyota dealership. My advice don’t buy a new tundra. So let the run around begin on trying to get it fixed and for how long.

Jan 27, 2025

Consistently this vehicle experiences a hesitation to accelerate from a stop or rolling stop such as a stop sign or at a round about type intersection. When this occurs there may be up to a 2 second delay from when I press the accelerator to when the vehicle moves and once it does begin to move it will jump forward rapidly. I have had several near miss collisions upon entering round abouts when this occurs as well as at several stop sign intersections. This problem has existed from when the vehicle was at about 5,000 miles. I have reported this condition to the Toyota dealer on 2 occasions and they tell me Toyota does not recognize this is an issue and there is no fix.

Jan 25, 2025

The engine has 13,441 miles on it and it has been consuming 4 quarts of oil in 1700 miles. The dealer sealed the engine and is performing an oil consumption test. Approximately 500 mile into the test the check engine light started flashing due to a misfire. The dealer found that the #1plug was fouled out and had to be replaced. At 1029 miles into the test the truck was idling in a parking lot for about 8 minutes when it started to misfire and stumble. After stepping on the throttle to clear out the misfire, the dash lit flashing multiple warnings including the breaking system was stuck on hindering the truck from being able to move. After several restarts and playing with the parking brake I managed to get the parking brake off. It still had the flashing check engine light on and flashing. The pre-collision light was flashing, along with the traction control light was flashing and none of the safety systems were working.

Vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop. Feels like the engine may stall and the vehicle will not respond to throttle inputs. Very unsafe as I may not be able to accelerate to avoid an accident.

Jan 12, 2025

Excessive hesitation in acceleration from stop or slow start. No warnings displayed car has less than 18000 miles. The excessive hesitation poses a real danger when pulling into traffic or trying to avoid an accident. The truck can randomly take several seconds to respond to accelerator input. This issue halls been reported my many 2022 and later Tundra owner.

My Tundra has a build date of January, 2023. The Engine recall by Toyota included models up till February 13, 2023. I want to know specifically why my vehicle was not included in the recall even though it was built within the recall period.

Jan 5, 2025

When in start and stop traffic when the vehicle is at low speeds below 5 mile an hour. The transmission does not properly downshift. This causes a severe lag in acceleration when needed in traffic or in Intersections. This delay is a safety issue due to causing a lack of vehicle movement when needed. The vehicle will basically not accelerate for a couple seconds until it decides to downshift. This happens continuously at speeds below 5 mile an hour. If you don’t stop completely and pause for a second or two, the transmission will not downshift properly. In traffic, you cannot do this.

Toyota has two recalls on my 2023 tundra. One is from August 10, 2023 and the other is from May 30, 2024. The first can cause a fuel leak and the second can cause engine failure while driving. i got this truck in 2022. i am wondering what has to happen before something will be done to fix theses recalls or I have to go through some changes before this is handled. I do not need any accidents before anything is done to fix my situation

2023 Tundra 39k miles. Engine shut off randomly while driving at 65 MPH. Was able to pull to the side of the road. Turned it off then back on and it was like nothing had happened. Pretty heavy traffic where it happened. Really dangerous.

Nov 11, 2024

On 10/18/2024 as I was driving my 2023 Toyota Tundra the engine quit running, after coasting to the burm of the road I got out and check the oil and found it full. I then tried to restart it and it sounded like the bottom half of the engine was coming apart. I had it towed to a nearby Toyota dealer, when they looked at the oil it had metal in it. I had to obtain a rental car under customer pay until the dealer determined what had happened, they informed me that they found a substantial amount of metal in the oil pan, just like the 96000 Toyota tundra’s that have been recalled due to this issue. I requested a new engine,a new truck or a buyback of my truck,I was later contacted by the service manager for the dealership and was told the would be doing a short block rebuild of this engine. My issue with this solution is that it was caused by the same issue that the 96000 other Toyota Tundra’s hav been recalled for and Toyota has informed me my warranty doesn’t qualify me for a new engine replacement. Common sense should be my engine should qualify for the same solution those other Toyota Tundras. I am filing this complaint because TOYOTA refuses to help me in any way,and the value of my truck will be negatively effected by their decision.

Oct 31, 2024

Engine started knocking at 58,000 miles, lost power and then completely lost all oil, pressureand then the vehicle became undrivable. Toyota has it in their service department and said it needs an engine replacement. It also does not have a part for the recall that we’ve been waiting on for over a year. They said it’s gonna take two months to repair.

Oct 21, 2024

My son was driving our 2023 Toyota Tundra (non-hybrid) at approximately 25-30 miles an hour when the engine shut down. He had difficulty steering but was able to safely brake to a stop in the middle of the road. Cars were forced to pass him on the shoulder. He was unable to restart the engine for what he estimates was approximately one minute. He was finally able to restart the engine and drive home. The next day I drove it to the Toyota dealer. The engine stalled on me one block from the dealer on a busy intersection. I was able to get it restarted, out of traffic and into the dealership where it sits today. There were no apparent symptoms with the vehicle prior to it stalling on my son. I received an engine failure warning message when the vehicle stalled on me. The dealership looked at the engine and stated that there is lose debris in the engine. The dealership has stated that they are unable to give me a diagnoses letter or a repair order at this time. Once they repair is made, they can give me something in writing. This issue appears to be similar Safety Recall 24TA07. However, Toyota is stating that my vehicle does not fall under 24TA07. It appears have a vehicle with an engine stall safety issue that is not attached to a recall.

I was driving at highways speeds then engine suddenly shuts off, had lost of power steering. This happens around 11pm luckily Not many cars were around and was able to pull over safely. Also the battery is bad it didn’t turn on randomly one day then I jumpstarted it and it kept happening, same day I took it into Toyota service under warranty and they said it was supposedly “good” according to their test. Left to a trip next day and again it not turn on. I purchased a new one thru autozone.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was notified of an unstated recall however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Had a accident due to loss of engine power when hitting the gas.

Sep 19, 2024

Catastrophic engine failure. I was driving home when the engine began knocking. Drove the last couple miles home and parked in my driveway. Engine running rough, and oil was dripping onto the ground under the engine. Toyota has evaluated and said it needs a new engine. Note - Toyota has a recall but is currently claiming my vehicle is not covered as it's just outside/newer than the covered trucks. As of today's date, 9/19/24, Toyota has had my vehicle since 7/17/24 and it's STILL not repaired.

Sep 17, 2024

There are many incidents, issues, and critical safety problems with my vehicle. I have had multiple repair attempts, with multiple Toyota Car Dealerships, and have continued to have the same amount of problems, and issues with this vehicle. Multiple leaks of fuel, smells of gas and burning, odometer reads brakes failing, and danger lights, Transmission shifting issues, Engine knocking while driving and at a complete stop, Brake issues, By the grace of God my family and I have not been in an accident yet. I have taken my car in for repairs multiple times and to this day my vehicle is still being repaired at the dealership as we speak. My vehicle has cumulatively been at the dealership for almost 3 months. My family and I are under an assortment of insurmountable mental, and physical stress with the level of unsafe, unfit, and unreliable attempts to not only trust this vehicle to operate safely, but trust the service technicians to safely, and correctly diagnose the many unsafe issues with this vehicle. I have made several attempts in filing cases, complaints, and attempts of contact, to resolve these multiple issues with the manufacturer, and have had no such luck. Please, for the safety and daily life continuity of my family. Please help me resolve these issues with the manufacturer. My family, and I do not feel safe and do not feel like our issues are being acknowledged or resolved. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done so that my family can safely, and cordially operate a functioning vehicle. Thanks and God Bless. I have been informed that my vehicle was affected by the recall involving the machining debris and therefore unsafe to drive. The dealership in Kendall Toyota, who is not normally my service dealer called me and after removing all my belongings and waiting for hours I was told my rental car was a Chevrolet Traverse, which I was unable to use for my business and was told I had to leave it with them indefinitely, and so I called my usual dealership in Hollywood, who informed me they would be able to help me out with a more appropriate rental vehicle the next day I advised the dealership at Kendall picked up my truck and went to Toyota of Hollywood only to be sent away stating that they did not have the remedy and we’re not able to help me. I have since followed up and every time I go in they tell me again only once I get there they don’t have the remedy and this is happened three times. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle and would very much like to have a safe and dependable vehicle to which I feel I am owed considering how much I paid for this truck . I feel like I am getting the runaround.

Aug 16, 2024

The vehicle is currently awaiting repair at the Toyota Dealership. The turbo froze. This is the second turbo to freeze on this truck. It was previously repaired by Toyota in April, 2024. This truck had 2,356 miles on it when the second turbo froze on July 31. The check engine light and reduced power indicators have displayed throughout both incidents. The service manager has yet to explain why this is happening in the engine system. As of today, I cannot find a recall on the truck when I use the VIN.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently shutdown. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the messages “Engine Power inoperable” and “Pull over in a Safe Place” were displayed. The contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings inside the engine. The dealer recommended that the engine be replaced. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

My truck has a build date of January 17, 2023. I have not received a recall notice despite it being included in the date range for replacement. The dealership told me the engine was produced from another plant that did not have the debris problem. I am only aware of this engine being produced at the Huntsville, AL engine plant. I believe my engine should be included in this recall.

The tailgate opens on its own while I am traveling down the highway. I now have to brace anything I put in the bed of the truck lest the tailgate opens on the highway and I spill my load and cause a catastrophic injury or death on the highway. When shifting into Park, having to keep my brakes firmly engaged due to a periodic and rapid acceleration of the engine. At cruising speed, on the highway, a vibration that only occurs when climbing hills coupled with a rapid pulsing of the engine/transmission. At cruising speed, on a level ground, the transmission rapidly disengages and reengages. Weekly I have gauge and infotainment malfunctions wherein I have to turn off the truck and restart it to make the gauges work. The gauges just freeze and fail to respond. The compass flips direction. Malfunctioning gas gauge. The backdoors lock and will not unlock. Occasionally, when they lock, I have to crawl into the backseat, from the from seat and manually unlock the door from the inside of the truck. A flat tire where when I went to change it, the jack bent…in my driveway. I now have to carry a 3rd-party jack and tools to handle emergency repairs. A regular malfunction of the rearview mirror. A cracked drivers seat. 6-months after purchasing the truck, the door trim came off in my hand. When I spoke to the Toyota tech, he advised me that this was not covered under warranty, and suggested that some customers keep the trim off as “most of the trim was installed with double-sided tape and would just fail again”. Though, to be fair, he did offer to, at several hundred dollars a pop, keep replacing the trim every couple of months. While my Truck is parked in the garage, when the trucks system does an update, it opens my garage door.

We have had this vehicle about a year and a half, 2023 Toyota Tundra and have had to take it back and forth to McLarty Toyota for recall work. Concerning this particular recall, 24ta07-Engine may stall during driving, we were told is unfixable. If this vehicle cannot be fixed, we are demanding it be replaced with a reliable truck

Jun 18, 2024

My truck engine was stalled shortly couple times on me. 1- When I try to turn right to get out of my sub division in the morning, my truck stalled. I released the gas paddle and step on it again and this time the truck is going ok. Luckily the coming car be able to stop before hitting my truck. 2- One time I went out for lunch with a friend, when we got back to the company's parking lot, I tried to back up the truck and the truck one stalled. I released the gas paddle and step on it again and it is ok. My friend thought it may be the rain outside.

Toyota has recall, stall engine , knocking noise

Jun 12, 2024

When pressing gas pedal from a stop position the car hesitates for a couple seconds and then goes all while the gas is pushed down

Jun 11, 2024

Pulling into traffic from a stop or near stop (such as a stop sign or yield sign), the vehicle does not respond to the gas pedal. After significant lag / hesitation, the vehicle lurches forward. This has happened multiple times starting around September 2023, and the problem is worse when the engine is cold (cold mornings) although it happens at all times to some extent. It seems to have gotten worst and happens almost daily at this point. There have been several times that the lag / hesitation has left me sitting in the middle of an intersection and almost caused me to be hit by other vehicles. I have had the vehicle in to the dealer 5 times for this issue and have been told it’s “normal” or they cannot replicate it. On the 5th time, Toyota corporate sent a representative Anthony Merejo, who verified in email that he experienced the hesitation and was sending the data back to Toyota engineering to see if there was a fix. That was about 6 weeks ago and I haven’t heard back.

Jun 9, 2024

The engine has rough idle, the dealership says they see a misfire and they say is normal for the vehicle to do this, is a brand new vehicle I bought with 9 miles im at 14 thousands now, and the truck has died using the 4wd and completely turned off, i took it to the dealership and they said the same like the engine, they cleared codes and thats all, i dont trust this vehicle i left it stranded on the sand once and the recalls they dont have solutions for any of them, toyota is neglecting customers now.

Jun 3, 2024

I have lost engine power while driving highway speeds on more than one occasion. There is no consistency on when this condition occurs. The engine light comes on and the engine goes into limp mode. Under the current circumstances, my Tundra is unsafe and poses a hazard to me and communities at large. This is because there is something faulty with my Tundra that is causing the sudden loss of engine power. Once I pull to the side of the highway, turn off the engine, then restart the Tundra the engine light goes away and the truck operates normally and does not register a fault code.

Jun 1, 2024

While traveling at highway speed, with no warning my truck lost acceleration power. There were other vehicles in the road, and I had to travel across multiple lanes to get to an exit while the vehicle was continuously slowing down. This put myself and my children at risk due to the sudden loss of power. I was able to exit and turn the engine off, after which, the problem seemed to stop. I took my truck to the dealership where it was purchased to have them check the truck, and they were unable to reproduce the problem. Their inspection only showed them that there were engine misfires. They told me the issue would need to be reproduced or would need to happen to me again before anything could be done about it or before they could get Toyota involved. I did explain that I had the "Reduced Engine Power" and "Brake System Malfunction" warning light that, through my research, have been experienced with other Tundra owners when they had "engine failures."

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal after a traffic stop or a traffic sign, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

2 incidents to where the vehicle turned off on a heavy acceleratio. 1st incident -pulled out into traffic and accelerated heavily. Truck stopped and a warning light came on about emergency brake. I took it to dealer and the couldn't duplicate but called Toyota to talk to them qith no resolution. 2nd incident same thing heavily accelerated while pulling into traffic and car shut down with a different warning saying to pull over and restart truck. Took to Toyota with still no resolution There was about 10k Mike between the 2 incidents

May 23, 2024

While driving on the freeway, going about 65 mph and attempting to accelerate, the check engine light starting alarming and came on, and the vehicle engine shut off. I was able to somehow safely navigate the vehicle across multiple lanes of traffic without causing an accident. I lost power steering and any ability to accelerate. After being able to navigate to the side of the freeway, it took multiple times to restart the vehicle, but it did finally restart. During the remainder of the drive the issue did not occur again. I called the dealership where it recently was having recalls performed to have them look into the cause of this. They were able to tell me that the engine "stalled" but they had no resolution or desire to further investigate this matter. This is extremely disturbing to me as I am very lucky that this did not cause a major accident. I am currently pregnant with my second child and my son is [XXX] old. It is very scary to think that I could potentially be seriously harmed with my children in the vehicle if this even were to happen again. - For the brakes, one month after the purchase date (November 2022), the brakes make a loud screech and to this date (17 May 2024), they still screech. I have took it into the dealer to report it and they still don't have a remedy. - My engine had something internally brake on Easter Sunday 2024. When I first took it to the dealer on Monday, it took a day or two and they found nothing wrong. I picked it up and noticed a loud tapping noise coming from the engine, I took it back to the dealer, the technician opened up the motor and found metal shavings all over the inside of the motor. I had it replaced within a month and a half later, wow, brand new and this is what happened.

Dec 14, 2023

When attempting to accelerate, the vehicle idles down and fails to accelerate for a period of 2-3 seconds. To initiate normal acceleration, fully depressing the accelerator pedal is required vs. a gradual depression of the pedal.

I was in the right lane on the 15 southbound from mesquite heading towards Las Vegas. Got into the passing lane to pass a semi and all power was lost after cutting over. I had to immediately cut over back to the right lane after passing the semi and pull over to the shoulder. This was a very dangerous situation and I have heard of others with the same vehicle going through the same thing. I do have video evidence of the situation as well. I will contact Toyota tomorrow

I have a 2023 Tundra 1794. From a stop there is a noticeable delay sometimes from the time I press the gas pedal to the time the truck actually starts moving. This has caused me to almost get into two serious accidents because the truck would not go.

Jun 5, 2023

While driving my new 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Hybrid, the car alerted of Hybrid System Malfunction, Secondary Collision Brake System Malfunction, Check Engine and Traction Control Turned Off. At this time, the system went in to some sort of Creep mode and wouldn't allow me to accelerate. The truck would barely move over 15 mph. I pulled over and shut the truck off, exited the vehicle, re-entered the vehicle and restarted the truck. The same alerts come back on. After a bit, the truck allowed me to start without the issues. I immediately took the vehicle to Toyota for service. Toyota is claiming it's a fluke, one-time "start sequence issue". I'm worried about this happening to me when I need to accelerate and not being able to accelerate. I searched the internet and others are having this issue. It seems Toyota needs to repair this and that it's a safety issue and able to prevent potential accidents.

Throttle lag on acceleration from a stop. More than 2 second delay

Mar 10, 2023

1. There is some sort of severe throttle lag/takeoff issue that happens intermittently, but almost always several times a day. always from a stopped position. 2.When you are turning left (going across the oncoming lane) you hit the gas pedal and nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it shoots off like a rocket ship. I have never been so close to a severely injured or more likely fatal car crash. this severity has happened twice, once with my daughter in the car. 3. Not yet. looks like there had almost been a class action law suit back to 2022 model year (same engine I believe). 4. No 5. No warning lights ever. as stated this is going back to 2022 and i haven’t visited a dealer yet as they tell the owners (there is no fix for the issue). hoping this forum can make a difference.

Merging into a highway vehicle lost power. Wouldn’t accelerate above 50 mph. Had multiple warning come on the dash, power lost, hybrid system failure, park daisy failure. Turned my hazards on a proceeded to safety. Definitely nerve racking, wouldn’t want this to happen when merging lanes in fast moving heavily traffic road. Accident waiting to happen. Toyota is completely silent about it.
