This is now a safety risk because I carry my child in the car, and I’m scared that my engine will lose power while I’m driving according to the recall. This is so irresponsible of Toyota that they still don’t have a remedy and I have been waiting.
While driving today the engine check light turned on, and the engine turned off (stalled) while in the middle of the road with a good amount of traffic around me. I pulled off to the side of the road and gave the engine a minute. I turned the truck back on again, the engine sounded very rough turning on and rough while driving. After a minute or two of driving, the engine light turned on again, and the engine stopped (stalled) again while in the middle of the road. I stopped this time for two minutes or so and turned the engine on again. I then proceeded to try to make it home, which I accomplished, but the truck's engine sounded rough and with a chattering sound (engine knocking) even when idling. I have received a recall notice letter concerning " Certain 2022-2024 Model Year Tundra Vehicles Engine May Stall During Driving." I possess the letter with the NHTSA Recall Number and the Toyota Recall Number. In the letter, it mentions the condition for which it is being recalled. The conditions are as stated in the letter. "Machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start, and/or a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power while driving can increase the risk of a crash." My truck has experienced all of the disfunctions that are stated in the recall letter. I would like for Toyota to look into this and remedy this problem before it ends in a major fatal crash or any other unfortunate circumstance. Thank you!
When accelerating from a stop it has a severe delay. I’ve read now this is not normal. Sometimes the delay can be 1-2 seconds causing confusions at like stop signs and such as I’ve pressed the gas and get nothing. Not reported to dealership but will on next oil change as this has been a persistent problem since purchase.
When slowing down and then accelerating OR coming to a stop on an incline and then gassing it, the truck will stall for 1-2 seconds and then launch off. This has almost caused a wreck multiple times as I get stuck in the roadway for 1-2 seconds before being able to cross the lane and complete my turn. The dealership has said they've heard of the issue but could not duplicate it. No dashboard lights came on during the power failure.
THROTTLE LAG/HESITATION
I have been having issues with engine hesitation, especially when pulling out onto the highway. More noticeable as we live out of town and our entrance is on a highway curve. As when I pull out, the response time is bad and had nearly caused us to get into a accident.
Dash camera will not function and has to shutdown when the warning goes off.
Engine hesitation.
Often times when accelerating from a complete stop, there will be a hesitation before the truck moves. Almost like it is about to die, but then accelerates. It can be dangerous at times when I need to pull through traffic to the opposite lane. I can’t have it stall and then someone hit the vehicle.
Rear passenger door trim, and accelerator pedal lag.
While parked on May 8, 2025, the sunroof glass on my 2023 Toyota Tundra spontaneously shattered. Minutes earlier, I had moved the vehicle from my driveway to the street. I have home security video that shows the sunroof panel visibly flexing when I closed the driver’s door—suggesting internal stress. Later, when I opened the door again and got inside, the glass suddenly exploded, creating a loud noise and sending shards across the sunroof liner. The glass appeared to explode outward rather than inward, suggesting a possible pressure buildup. This vehicle had just received its 40,000-mile service, and the glass was intact and undamaged beforehand. There were no warning lights, impact marks, or objects that could cause damage near the truck at the time. The failure occurred under normal conditions—no driving, no people around. I consider this a serious safety risk: If this had occurred while driving or with passengers inside, it could have caused injury or distraction-related accidents. I have multiple videos from my home security system showing: 1. The sunroof flexing under door pressure 2. The moment the glass shatters The dealer (Bayside Toyota) is scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The failed sunroof is available for inspection upon request. I have also asked the dealership to file this incident as a safety incident related to the Toyota Tundra.
Hesitation from a stop. Truck has a delay when pressing on accelerator nearly causing a collision. This happens randomly.
Vehicle suffers from power failure response intermittently when attempting to accelerate. Sometimes it feels as it’s its sputtering before getting a sudden jolt of acceleration.
Hesitation From Stop and Surge Concerns. this may cause traffic surge, collison in my front for having no control of the speed if I end up pressing the gas all the way which it cause a quick surge of speed, due to the hesitation when pressing the gas, this happened to my car for a lot of times now which I ignored it until I saw the help from the Toyota Tundra forum, that I can actually send a report to NHTSA.
The tailgate can be easily dislodged from hinge when lifting from the passenger side of tailgate leading to it coming out of the C Hinge and hurting individual not expecting the full weight of tailgate coming off. No injuries luckily happened at the time of incident other than minor cosmetic damage from where the tailgate hit. I have video recreating what happened to describe the incident better but lack of hinge protection could result in serious injury if this occurs again.
Vehicle stereo volume does not mute when a text message is received and being read out loud.
The vehicle's climate control system does not function as the instructions in the owners manual states. I have had it looked at by the dealer 3 times, once with a field technician, and filed a complaint with Toyota directly, all of which have been fruitless. In short, the fan speed function does not increase the output from the fan when increasing the fan speed at its switch. You can hear the fan speed increase, but no additional air comes out of vents if the vehicle is near the set temperature. In other words, you are not able to manually control the fan/blower. This has been replicated by the dealer each time, including the field tech. The response I have received has been both "it's functioning as designed" by the dealer, and "it's a known issue" from the Toyota field rep. Nothing has been done to resolve it nor update the owner's manual to indicate this is how the system is supposed to function.
Hello, Noticed the fuel gauge was reading full after retrieving boat after a day of fishing. Before launching the boat the gauge read 1/2. Filled up at the gas station with the needle on full and it took approximately 16 gallons. The Toyota dealer said they could find no problems and reset the gauge. Running out of gas could be a serious problem towing a boat. Thank you
I have been informed that my vehicle was affected by the recall involving the machining debris and therefore unsafe to drive. The dealership in Kendall Toyota, who is not normally my service dealer called me and after removing all my belongings and waiting for hours I was told my rental car was a Chevrolet Traverse, which I was unable to use for my business and was told I had to leave it with them indefinitely, and so I called my usual dealership in Hollywood, who informed me they would be able to help me out with a more appropriate rental vehicle the next day I advised the dealership at Kendall picked up my truck and went to Toyota of Hollywood only to be sent away stating that they did not have the remedy and we’re not able to help me. I have since followed up and every time I go in they tell me again only once I get there they don’t have the remedy and this is happened three times. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle and would very much like to have a safe and dependable vehicle to which I feel I am owed considering how much I paid for this truck . I feel like I am getting the runaround.
It has been over one year since NHTSA Recall Number23V566 was issued (10 August 2023) and the final remedy is still not available. Safety of vehicle owners (and families) must not be very high on Toyota's or NHTSA's priority list. NHTSA must make Toyota take immediate action to correct this fire hazard. Waiting one year for a remedy for this fire safety hazard is way too long.
I backed out of my drive way and then proceeded to the stop sign at the end of my street which is three houses from mine. Turned left off of [XXX] onto [XXX] I started to accelerate to speed limit which is 25. I then looked at speedometer it stated I was going 15 mph then all of a sudden my truck accelerated to almost 69 mph then my truck slammed in the brakes. My foot was still on the gas petal and I never felt the gas petal push down when it accelerated. No my cruise control was not activated and no lights came on to indicate what it was doing or that there was anything wrong. Steve’s Hometown Toyota could not find anything wrong with the truck, but then again I don’t trust them I gave them a month to get the guy to fix it and the part and the loaner to fix the canister on my Highlander but when my appointment came up the guy couldn’t stay the full 5 hours to fix my car and they did not have a loaner and did not have the part. That is how I got into the 2023Toyota Tundra. Then it develops a brain that it wants to go faster then slammed on the breaks. That truck hurt me and gave me whiplash. They want me to pick it up. I am not driving it. I am lucky no one was in the truck and on the road the time the incident happened. I have made a report to Toyota and let them know that I have doctors notes and my daughter was on the phone with me through the truck not on my phone. I am afraid that they are going to put me back into the same truck that hurt me. Know I find out that the 2023 trucks have a recall on them. They still don’t have an answer for me. What if they put me in another Toyota truck what if they have the same problems. I used to have faith in Toyotas but now I don’t. It hurt me and I am still having issues from that stupid truck. Toyota has recall, stall engine , knocking noise
On numerous occasions when I am at a stop sign leaving work and trying to accelerate onto the 4 line highway my vehicle acceleration has a delay in it causing me to not properly accelerate into traffic almost causing me to get hit on numerous occasions. I have complained about this situation to the dealer and was told once that it was normal for the delay and once that it is just a V6 engine so that is why the delay. I am sure that I am not the only person having this issue is a problem and will be the result of many accidents if not addressed.
When pressing gas pedal from a stop position the car hesitates for a couple seconds and then goes all while the gas is pushed down
Pulling into traffic from a stop or near stop (such as a stop sign or yield sign), the vehicle does not respond to the gas pedal. After significant lag / hesitation, the vehicle lurches forward. This has happened multiple times starting around September 2023, and the problem is worse when the engine is cold (cold mornings) although it happens at all times to some extent. It seems to have gotten worst and happens almost daily at this point. There have been several times that the lag / hesitation has left me sitting in the middle of an intersection and almost caused me to be hit by other vehicles. I have had the vehicle in to the dealer 5 times for this issue and have been told it’s “normal” or they cannot replicate it. On the 5th time, Toyota corporate sent a representative Anthony Merejo, who verified in email that he experienced the hesitation and was sending the data back to Toyota engineering to see if there was a fix. That was about 6 weeks ago and I haven’t heard back.
I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety concern regarding the Toyota Tundra, specifically related to the rear tailgate functionality. It has come to my attention, and I have personally experienced, that the rear tailgate of the Toyota Tundra can unexpectedly open while the vehicle is in drive mode if the key fob is accidentally pressed. This poses a significant safety risk to not only the driver but also to any passengers and other drivers on the road. The unintended opening of the tailgate can lead to cargo falling out onto the road, causing accidents and potentially endangering lives. I believe that this issue warrants immediate attention and investigation by the National Transportation Safety Authority (NTSA). It is imperative that Toyota addresses this issue promptly to prevent any potential accidents or injuries. I urge the NTSA to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and work with Toyota to implement a solution that ensures the rear tailgate remains securely closed while the vehicle is in motion. Additionally, I recommend that Toyota issues a safety recall to rectify this potentially hazardous defect. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the NTSA will take appropriate action to address this safety concern and ensure the safety of all road users.
I was traveling on a hwy with the highest posted speed limit in the U.S. Without any warning the entire engine stopped. Made it to shoulder and the info screen went haywire. Tried six separate times to restart vehicle. Restarted and made it to destination without further incident. The outcome of sudden engine loss could’ve been fatal to myself and other drivers that were near me at the time. Took vehicle to dealer and was told no codes were found at all.
Toyota's design of their dash mounted "infotainment" display screen software requires reentry of a 6 digit pin any time vehicle internet connectivity is lost. This interrupts the map routing display that appears on the display screen through sources such as Apple CarPlay. This Toyota software designed interruption of the route display represents a safety hazard in that it prompts the driver to take their eyes off the road to screw around with entering a 6 digit PIN code. Worse still, according to Toyota documentation, EVERY TIME vehicle internet connectivity is interrupted, this same prompt to enter a PIN is displayed. Apple CarPlay and I'm sure other map apps are not designed so poorly as to require the driver to reauthenticate their credentials upon loss of internet connectivity. I feel the design of Toyota's infotainment system software represents an unacceptable safety risk to American drivers.
My truck’s windows (all 4) have terrible seals (not tight to window) that are allowing water to enter door. Windows have a jerk motion when wet and lowering. Moisture is present inside the cab on windows. Rear windows are extremely loose and can be a potential safety issue (I have video). Risk can fall on rear passengers because of instability of windows. Repair tech stated in report that there was an issue with windows by reproducing same motions with new trucks on lot (I have video from Toyota tech). Just inspected by dealer. No warning lamps. I have been trying to resolve this with Toyota Corp. with no further details of solution. I have all correspondence.
A few complaints: #1: First is the infotainment system continuously requests a pin be entered. I would enter the pin, but the pin screen pops up again and again whenever the system is on. Had the dealership look at it, they stated the info system has the latest software and I was instructed to contact Toyota. After a 2+hour phone call, resetting app passwords a few times, resetting pin a few times, starting the truck a certain way, and other things I cannot completely remember, finally got it to accept the pin and stop pin request screen from popping up. That worked for about 1 week, and since then the screen pops up. I no longer try to enter the pin just hit the x button (kind of hard and dangerous entering 6 digit pin 30 times while going 75 on the highway). I would estimate screen popping up about every 1-2 minute. #2: Truck has 6,400 miles on it, brakes started squealing around 4k miles or less, getting progressively worse. I have tried washing brake dust away at car wash, no help. Sounds like when a car is getting to the last of the brakes. Are they that worn in 6k miles, I hope not, but how am I supposed to know when or if they need to be replaced? Very annoying, and dangerous since I can't rely on the brakes squealing to let me know need replaced. #3: 1 week ago after stopping at a red light, about 5 seconds passed when the truck jerked violently and slightly moved forward, all while I had the brake pedal pressed. It was so hard I was certain I had just got rear ended, but as I looked in the mirror preparing to get out of the truck, I saw the car behind me was barely approaching 20+ feet back. This is only time it has happened so far, but very concerning, will let the dealership know as well, but I can already hear their response "we weren't able to replicate the issue". Fuel line recall, still haven't fixed it (but will be setting appointment to take it in for all the described things, again, and hopefully get my 2nd key, been 9 months already).
When parked on a slight incline facing uphill (~5°) fuel gauge began reading full. Fuel level prior to parking was 1/2 tank. Fuel gauge was stuck reading full for several days. Dealership unable to resolve.
Unknown. No incident yet. Concerned driving far. Recalls been 4 month and no action yet. Would like a refund of my money or a replacement vehicle. Also my tailgate feel off my tire pressure system comes on and tires are fine vehicle is a lemon.
The payload sticker is in correct .I did the math using the gross combined weight minus the curb weight and it does not match. There is no added options either that would lesson the payload.went to Koch Toyota they understood the problem but stated they don't know what to do. Any information on what I can do next please let me kno
While trying to get ahead of traffic at on ramp to freeway power was reduced and check engine light was activated. Pulled over soon after. Turned truck off and sat for a few minutes then turned truck back on Check engine was gone and truck ran normal. This could have been an accident but thankfully I had space to move over and get out of the traffics way.
It has been over 5 months since receiving the recall notice of the 2023 tundra tonneau cover (23TA03). Dealer asked me to wait for a toyota fix multiple times and then did not respond to further requests for answers solutions or a refund for the part that I did not want. Additionally the bed rails had defects and rust that accumulated inside of the rails and is all over my bed liner indicating potential future rusting issues on the best of the truck. I bought it in December of 2022. Rust was apparent after 3 Months. No reply via phone or email or social media from. Toyota. No solutions yet or refunds issued for an obviously defective and dangerous product. Simply fix is refund for tonneau cover and new bed rails.
As I accelerate from a complete stop; i.e from a stop light red to green. I experienced a sudden loss in power and the car does not accelerate through the intersection. It is very dangerous because the vehicle behind me almost rear ended me due the sudden lag/no acceleration.
