PODS system recall from 2023 was replaced, but now the same error message for the airbag not working for the front passenger air bag is now coming on again. VW dealership will not replace a second time, they are aware of the problem and have refused to help in any way. No passenger can be in the front passenger seat because the airbag does not turn on when the seat is occupied.

I requested a repair for safety recall 69FB about a year ago and my dealer says that they still do not have the parts to make the repair. How can you decide that a problem may result in death or injury but not expedite the repair?

Apr 26, 2025

I have the same airbag error issues as same year and model car. They are not considering it as part of the recall.

Apr 23, 2025

Vehicles stalls randomly all the times ,moving or not . Almost got rear ended several times . Spent 3k at Vw in Brandon for brakes that were only 70k miles on them . But they still squeal . Can’t fuel with gas as the pressure just pushes the fuel back at me . Seems worse in warmer weather . Vw said they would not touch the charcoal canister as that what I’ve deemed is the issue.

I have an error for my passenger airbag sensor, it is the same error that is present on current recalled Atlas models from the same year that I have, however; my vin is included. I would like some type of solution from the manufacturer to resolve this issue due to the current status and frequency of this issue on 2019 Atlas models

Dec 15, 2024

While performing a low speed left hand turn the vehicle’s adaptive cruise control system falsely detected an imminent crash triggering the auto braking system and subsequently malfunctioned to release the vehicle’s side curtain airbags on both the passenger and driver side. The police were called and responded but no police report was prepared as there was determined to be no motor vehicle accident or property damage done (other than to the vehicle itself). The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a diagnostic test was performed, results attached. The manufacturer has verbally responded that they determine the airbag release to be of outside influences and they deny malfunction. They will not provide their response in writing. At the time of the accident there were no warning lights indicating a problem; however, the vehicle diagnostic results indicate that there were brake system issues earlier in the day. The vehicle diagnostic results include multiple system malfunctions that contributed to this malfunction.

passenger side airbag sensor indicated problem. Sensor mat in the passenger side was replaced once, now it needs to be replaced again. Being told that because the repair was done 19 months ago it is out of parts warranty and my bumper to bumper is out of warranty. This is the SAME problem as the vehicles with a recall from VW. If the airbag does not inflate upon impact, it will kill the passenger. The repair is estimated at $800. This is an airbag, as safety issue.

I own a 2019 VW Atlas SE, purchased it new. The car has never been in an accident of any sort. While away from town this weekend, on Saturday an "airbag error" popped up on the car when starting the car Saturday morning. Had no idea, texted my VW dealership and brought the car in Monday morning. Note: I had to drive home ~80 miles on Sunday. Apparently the drivers side from seat belt assembly has to be replaced. The front seat belt tension igniter N153 resistance malfunctioned, causing the "Airbag error." First, in hindsight, I presume this means that if I got in an accident while driving home on the highway yesterday, I could have died due to this error. Second, I am a very cautious driver, if there is a way to check on the car, would clearly see that there have been VERY VERY FEW hard braking situations so I'm not sure why this would happen. Very dangerous and should not fail in a 5 year period and cost nearly $750 out of pocket to repair. The code the the seat belt assembly 3CN-857-705-E-RAA, costing $286.15, and another $379.90 for labor.

Today, my atlas gave an error message; air bag error. I called my dealership, who informed me that there is a recall in this. But not for my VIN number. But it’s the same issue. Now, I have to pay out of pocket or chance my air bag not working properly.

Mar 26, 2024

Recall 23V215 has been open for a year with no remedy in sight. The vehicle's front passenger seat is critical to transporting my family from place to place as our other vehicle does not fit our entire family. We are forced to unsafely operate our VW Atlas on occasion, significantly increasing risk of a family member being harmed in a collision scenario.

11 months since recall and VW has no fix!! This is not timely and continues to affect passenger safety inthe vehicle! How can you get VW to remedy or force them to buy back vehicles at a fair price!!

Mar 18, 2024

It has been nearly a year since Volkswagen announced a recall effecting airbags in the Atlas. My warning lights continue to go off intermittently. I have brought this to the attention of Volkswagen many times, to no avail. The recommendation is to not drive with a passenger in the passenger seat. Well, it has been a year, I bought this car to seat six. With no solution in sight, I feel I am being taken advantage of and was sold a lemon. I would like pressure to be put on Volkswagen to correct the problem so my family can drive this vehicle with confidence, since that is what I spent my money for.

In April 2023, VW issued a recall on the passenger side airbags. Recall number 69FB for 2018-2020 VW Atlas. It is now coming up on a year since this recall with no remedy in site. I have been trying to trade in or sell my vehicle and being told by multiple dealerships they cannot take the vehicle due to the open recall. Their main reason is due to the fact this recall has no remedy. How long does a manufacturer have to fix open recalls before they have to compensate the customer for their inconvenience.

This car has an active recall on it since April, 2023 with no known remedy. In the meantime, I'm not supposed to have a passenger sit in the front seat. My lease is ending. I cannot buy the car from the dealer because they won't sell it with an open recall.

Feb 5, 2024

I believe the manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable time for a recall remedy for the current recall.

It has been over 9 months since VW issued a recall of the front passenger airbag. We were instructed not to use the front passenger seat. With children and sports equipment to haul around it is extremely inconvenient, bordering on making the vehicle obsolete with an inability to use the front passenger seat. We have not heard anything from VW regarding a fix and they have not responded to my attempts to contact them.

I would like to file a formal complaint regarding the current recall on this vehicle. This recall has been a known issue since March 29, 2023 and as of today's date there is no found resolution. The suggestion from VW is that no individual ride in the passenger front seat until the issue is resolved. It is completely unrealistic and unreasonable to ask any individual to abide by this suggestion for this long of a time period. I am unable to use my vehicle to travel anywhere with the whole family unless they all sit in the back. VW needs to come up with a solution for fixing the recall immediately.

Dec 31, 2023

My passenger airbag light has been showing an error light on and off since March of 2023. I’ve brought it to a Volkswagen dealership 2 separate times, and they advised me they didn’t have a fix for the issue. This is our family car that we HAVE to drive everyday to get to work and school. Everyday someone is at risk by riding in the passenger seat. It’s been 9 months of my family being at risk on the roads. I would like something to be done in regards to my vehicle asap so my family is safe.

No incident, not a timely remedy for recall. Recall from March 2023, no remedy available in December 2023, 9 months later.

Dec 18, 2023

I would like to file a complaint against VW for the outstanding recall. This recall was issued in March, it is now mid-December, and they still do not have a remedy available! 9 months is way too long to have a dangerous recall to be open (airbag issue) with no date for a remedy. Manufacturers should not be allowed to take this long to come up with a remedy!

I have a recall on my car that has no fix and they ask us to not let anyone sit in the passenger seat. I don't see how this is a very safe approach to the fix. If this is the case I think all these cars should be taken off the road and not driven. I have a husband that has been in an accident on the passenger side and almost passed away. I refuse to put him in a car that is not to par with air bags. These cars should be deemed unsafe and taken off the road. This is not the first recall that I have had to deal with and I think it is crazy to have a car that my husband can ride in the front seat. The first recall was back in March now this one which started in May

Nov 28, 2023 Crash

On Saturday, November 18, 2023, at approximately 2100 hrs. my wife was returning home from a volunteer event traveling N/B SR-269 near MM 15.7 when she encountered an elk crossing the roadway in front of her. She subsequently hit the elk with the left front of our 2019 Volkswagen Atlas SEL. The impact collapsed the hood, grill, front bumper, and left fender. The driver and passenger door, left fender, and windshield were also severely damaged. The entire front windshield was shattered and collapsed into the front passenger compartment. What did not happen was the activation of the front and side airbags. I believe the impact was sufficient for the system to deploy and it appears to me that the passenger airbag system failed in this collision. Failure of the airbag system is potentially life-threatening. The vehicle is currently in a towing company impound yard waiting for inspection from our insurance adjuster. Accident Location: SR-269 MM 15.7 Ravalli County, Montana

Unable to drive our family car due to the ongoing passenger airbag recall. VW has yet to come up with a resolution, but it is not safe for us to drive it with someone in the passenger seat. This problem is very frustrating and the delay in a solution should be unacceptable.

Nov 21, 2023

The passenger air bag system is failing, the suggested fix is to not have a passenger ride in that seat. But since we have 4 kids in car seats in the back and only have one car we have no choice but for one of us to Always ride in that seat and risk injury.

Our FAMILY car cannot be USED due to this air bag recall!! No one can sit in the front seat due to this issue, because may or may not go off in accident - Volkswagen has no solution other than, just don’t let anyone sit in the front passenger seat!! This recall appears to follow the electrical issues everyone is complaining of. The amount of recalls this vehicle has had since 2019 , needs to investigated. ! This car sits in the garage and not useable… A 20year old car is more safer and reliable than this car

Sep 7, 2023

On September 5th, I was driving home and my Airbag Error light and notice came on my dash. I got home, turned the car off and back on and it was gone. September 6th, it happened again. But when I turned the car off and back on, it stayed on. September 7th, it's off, but if anything is sitting in passenger seat, it's on, but the passenger airbag light on my controls says "off". The dealership says there is nothing they can do because there is an open recall, however, no repair yet.

Sep 7, 2023

In May, I received notice of a defective airbag in the passenger side front seat of my 2019 Volkswagen Atlas. When I was driving and the malfunction occurred (an acoustic sound and "airbag off" lights), I followed the instructions on the recall notice and contacted my local dealer Wellesley Volkswagen to have it evaluated. On 6/8/23 the car was evaluated and I was told by the service department there was no fix for the problem and no timeline for the fix. I was advised to stop using the passenger front seat, because there was a chance the airbag would not deploy in a crash. This is my only vehicle and I have two young children. I am also a caregiver for my very ill mother, who is on oxygen. To transport her, I arrange to use another vehicle so she can sit comfortably. I cannot risk her safety! This has caused me such stress my father tried to help me by calling Wellesley VW, and he was told the only thing I could do was rent a car with my own money. I continued to get emails from Wellesley VW and Carfax this summer, reminding me about the recall. When I called the dealership this summer, I was told there was no fix and no timeline for the fix. I got an email from Wellesley VW on September 1 about the recall, and I wrote back but got no response. Today 9/7/23 called Wellesley VW service again, and was told there is no fix, not timeline for the fix, and there is nothing else they can do for me at this time. It has been 130+ days! Today I called the Attorney General of Massachusetts and filed a consumer complaint against Volkswagen of America, Inc. The airbag is one of the most important safety aspects of a motor vehicle. The fact that this has been going on for so long and there is no remedy is absolutely unacceptable.

I Bought the SUV on 6-22-23 Tried to get the recall fixed on 8-11-23 And according to Volkswagen the recall came out on 4-4-23. This means I was sold a vehicle with a known safety recall with no current fix as was not alerted. I bought the vehicle to earn a living by renting it on Turo and they will not let it be rented with an open safety recall. I need to file a complaint.

There is a great danger to the lives of passengers due to a defect in the safety system. So far, every time I call the manufacturer, they say the repair is unavailable. ! How long is the wait? And in the event of an accident or danger to the passengers, who is responsible?

Aug 21, 2023

I have been waiting on VW to fix their PODS system recall for 6 months now. Our front passenger seat flips between not registering the airbags when a passenger is present, so thinking that there is a passenger seated when the seat is empty. They still tell me there is no fix for the issue and the only thing I can do is not utilize the front passenger seat. This is absolutely OBSURED that it is taking this long to rectify this situation. I have a seat is unsafe and it does not appear there is any urgency on VW's part. 6 months with no fix is entirely too long.

The manufacturer had communicated an potential failure of the passenger side airbag in April 2023. The issue will not alert me unless an occupant is in the passenger seat and there is a potential failure while in transit. This is high risk. No remedy is available and this is affecting my personal and work life, along with finances as I cannot drive with other passengers due to the risk of severe injury or death. Numerous complaints and requests were sent to the manufacturer (VW) but nothing has been done. This is a known safety issue and I should not be paying for a vehicle that is known to potential causes harm to my passengers.

The passenger side airbag has been switched off due to a fault in something. So if I have a passenger in my front passenger side and am in an accident, the airbag will not deploy which could cause a multitude of safety problems and possibly cause a fatality. I took my car in 6/15/23 to the dealership and they did confirm that my car was effected by this recall, however, they did not have a fix for it. My light indicating that the passenger airbag is off has been on for over a month. I have contacted Volkswagen and their response to me was "just don't put anyone in the front seat". That response is simply unacceptable when my family and friends lives are at stake. This is approximately the 10 safety recall on this vehicle.

The front passenger air bag warning light has been coming on intermittently for over 6 months now. It first began on a 4-hour trip, chiming the whole 4 hours while a passenger was in the seat, unable to move to another seat due to occupancy. The vehicle was brought into the dealership and sensor was replaced. Since then, the warning has continued to come on intermittently and the vehicle was brought into the dealership 2 additional times with no fix. Error Airbag keeps coming on and dealership cant find issue and cant replicate problem but it happens every time we get in car and are driving. This is very dangerous if we get in a accident and airbags dont deploy. Also There has been some weird electrical issues with vehicle that cause lights to flicker and turn on and off inside car dash. Dealership cant figure it out due to not replicating issue. Last issue is with brakes. Something in the electrical system is causing brakes to fully engage slamming us into the dash board and windshield. Has happened 3 times since owing vehicle. Dealership again said they cant replicate issue. This is getting to be the worse car we have purchased. First time owning a Volkswagen and probably the last time.

The front passenger air bag light comes on indicating the air bag is off even when someone is sitting in that seat. An error light showes a warning on the dashboard when the deactivated air bag light is on but it will go off eventually for a while. I called VW directly & they said to "Google" it! We took it to a dealer & they couldn't offer an explanation only suggesting I check for a recall. My concern is that any passengers are not protected. I believe there is an issue with this vehicle.

Thos vehicle has opened the rear hatch on two separate occasions, which was confirmed as an issue by both the local dealer, McLarty Volkswagen in North Little Rock, and Volkswagen Corporate. The airbag light is constantly on, and the parking brake may engage randomly. Volkswagen Corporate told us to "drive it as long as you feel comfortable with it, or just park it, but there isn't a plan and new parts can take 4-6 months to be ready." They also said no loaner vehicles are available due to the large amount of issues they are having. This is unacceptable as my wife and children ride in this vehicle daily and put their lives on the line with these issues.

My 2019 Atlas is showing many of the same symptoms of the current Atlas recall, but it isn’t listed on the site. My airbag light is flashing, the adaptive cruise control states that it isn’t available, and many other electrical systems have been failing. The problem began today.

Apr 29, 2022

1. I was driving towards a stop sign at about 15-20mph(school zone) and all of a sudden the vehicle slammed its brakes and shut off. The dashboards’ lights were all on. Vehicle motor was no longer on. I had cars behind me and my children in the car, so I had to quickly put the car back in Park and turn the car back on via push start. I know there has been a recall out for this door harness issue, however my vin is not showing to be part of it. As I believe it should. 2. The Airbag Error is also intermittently been popping up on the dashboard. I have had these checked out at Findlay Volkswagen however they couldn’t reproduce the problem. There were no warning lamps that popped up before the problems occurred. I am the main transport for my children, and I can not risk any problems with them in the vehicle. These need to be in recalls!

Apr 22, 2022

Airbag error came on 4/22/22. I looked up issue and noticed a recall for 2020 and 2021 models and a secondary recall that will be issued in May 2022 that is for 2019++models. I called VW Lee's Summit to have the recall issue(s) addressed and due to my VIN not being apart of a recall YET, and being over the mileage warranty, the dealership told me that I would have to pay a diagnostic and repair fee associated with the problem. I called VW Customer Care and the representative (Case No. 05192733) was very helpful, however had her hands tied to help me because I'm in a position of in-between recall notices and over mileage. This issue with the airbag is critical and I had hoped the dealership would have me come in, fix the issue and escalate to VW Corporate for reimbursement of costs. Desired solution would be adding my VIN to recall list and immediately having service. If the addition to the list is such that it is not expeditious, the safety concern should immediately be addressed and the dealership should seek reimbursement/payment from VW.

Apr 19, 2022

First issues started with the engine surging at low speeds or coming to a stop which progressed into complete engine stalls. Had the car at the dealer 3 different times, it doesn’t stall anymore but still surges. Have had multiple occurrences of instrument panel indicators going off to include Error:airbag, seatbelt light and beeps while seatbelt was fastened, frontal crash warning lights and sounds as well as watch for rear traffic lights and sounds (one being while I was backing out of the garage where there are no cars) and the last being engaging the parking brake multiple time while at a stop light. This vehicle definitely does not feel safe for me to drive myself and 2 children around in. A major accident could occur if airbags deploy randomly or don’t deploy when needed or if the parking brake is engaged while in motion and not while at a light next time. I don’t see how any of these issues aren’t a recall or being told by dealers that they’ve never heard of an issue before.

My car is showing an airbag error sign off an on and the emergency brake came on during a right turn and nearly caused an accident.

Mar 21, 2022 Crash

Windows roll down by themselves. Parking brake applies itself without warning. Multiple warning lights saying parking brake error, start stop error, hill assist error, window sensor code, and constant dinging. Hill assist will come on even when not on a hill jarring you at higher speeds. Airbags deployed late during no fault Accident. The flaws in the vehicle didn’t cause the car accident, yet it wasn’t protecting me as it should have, but could very well cause an accident with the abrupt stopping, for no reason. I do have videos of the caution codes, it wouldn’t let me up load them so I took pictures of the videos.

In Jan 2022, the air bag system error light lit up at start-up and remained lit. A first-available dealer appointment was made for 1/28, two weeks away. During those two weeks, the car started to issue a burst of random alerts during cold startup - driver door contact switch failure, cruise control (ACC) failure, start/stop system failure, and the rear driver side window would roll down several inches. Shutting off and restarting the car solved these alerts. The car was inspected on Jan 28; the dealer confirmed a faulty wiring harness in the driver side door. They also confirmed the random alerts were the same cause. The dealer stated that the driver side air bag was nonfunctional, but the rest of the air bag system was OK. A replacement part was ordered with an estimated delivery of 2-3 weeks. As such, we chose to keep driving the car. Over the ensuing weeks, the random alert sequence got more frequent and started to show an electronic parking brake alert and engage the parking brake at startup. It then began happening on later starts when the car was fully warmed and would resume after the car was shut off and restarted. Finally, the alerts started to happen while moving, and instead of just a single burst, became a continuing sequence. The alerts are a rapid-fire volley of warning dings/dongs and accompanying messages in front of the driver. At the same time, the rear driver-side window is moving and the door contact switch is clicking randomly in the driver's left ear. It is a startling volley, which combined with the other weird sounds, is a disorienting and panic-inducing 360-degree assault on the senses. After no word from the dealer. I called on Mar 4 and was told the part was on a nationwide backorde, with no ETA. I did some research and found numerous reports of the problem getting worse over time and the parking brake engaging while moving. As our experience matches the trend, I feel the car is no longer safe and have parked it until it is repaired.

When I returned to my parked car at the grocery store on Tuesday Jan 4th at 10:51am, the curtain and passenger side airbags had deployed. There was no impact or crash observed. The VW service department and USAA diagnostic download had reported an impact to the rear axel on Monday Jan 3rd at 8:51pm. Their sensors show that the airbags deployed at 8:51pm Monday. Not only was there no impact or crash, but the airbags in fact deployed while the car was parked the following day. Monday evening I was driving with 3 others (two children) in the car. There was ice and snow on the road, but no impact or no airbag deployment. The faulty sensor could cause the airbags to be delayed in a serious crash, or deploy for no reason. There is a serious mechanical issue with this car. Volkswagen has reviewed the download and feels that the diagnosis from the download is correct and there is no further investigation required

My car had an airbag alert show up on Thursday, January 27th. It said Error: Airbag. I contacted the dealership was able to get my car into Glenwood Springs Volkswagen service center on Friday, January 28th. At 4:30 pm I was told there was an issue with the airbag system. According to the Volkswagen employee, this is a known issue and they are surprised Volkswagen has not opened a recall. The service report states: Connected scan tool and found fault B101715 crash sensor for side air bag, drivers side open circuit/short circuit to B+ (passive). They recommended to replace drivers door harness. I was informed the necessary replacement parts were back ordered and would not be replaced for at least 1 month. I believe the earliest date to expect the fix is March 5th. The local service center has 2 loaner cars that are currently loaned out due to this issue. They cannot provide me a loaner car. I called VW care and they are unable to escalate this issue until Thursday, February 3rd. They informed me it was not an active recall and not part of my warranty for them to have to provide me a safe car to drive.

PURCHASED A 2019 ATLAS SE4MOTION. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. THE SUV HAD 40000 MILES ON IT. THIS WAS ON A SATURDAY 12.19. BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER ON 12.21, VW SAID IT WAS A MODULAR PROBLEM. CAR WAS FIXED A WEEK LATER BUT THAN AIR BAGS ACTIVATED. THE CAR WAS FIXED AGAIN , PROBLEM WAS WATER BUILT UP IN CONTROL MODULE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS TWISTED TUBE. NEED NEW MODULAR AND A/C DRAIN. THIS WAS DONE AND I PICKED UP CAR AND AIR BAG LIGHT WENTO OFF AGAIN. CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP. THIS SEEMS SIMILAR TO 2018 ISSUES WITH AIRBAG. I HAVE NOTIFIED VW CORPORATE.

STRUCK A LARGE POTHOLE WITH DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL WHILE TRAVELING 15MPH ON A ROUNDABOUT WHICH APPARENTLY CAUSED THE SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. NO BODY DAMAGE AND NO APPEARANCE OF SUSPENSION DAMAGE. TIRE AND WHEEL REMAINED INTACT, DROVE STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP FOR CLOSER LOOK/EXPLANATION AS TO WHY ALL SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
