While in slow traffic and transmission in Drive position, if I slow down or stop for traffic in front of me or a red light, the transmission does not engage again when given acceleration. I have shut the car off and restarted again, sometimes more than once to get it to engage and get me out of traffic. I have held up traffic behind me. There are also loud clunking noises coming from what I believe is the transmission at each start causing the PRNDL to flash and no power for reverse and drive. I believe all of this will eventually cause a collision as it appears to other vehicles that I should be moving. People have also become very frustrated with my vehicle holding up traffic, especially on the busiest of days and long lines waiting to advance behind me. People have become impatient and angry to the point of road rage. Thankfully, no one has actually tried to hurt me physically. The date below would be the latest incident.
I slowly at 5mph went over a bump and my car went automatically into neutral, all of the P R N D S lights on the dash started blinking and the car just kept revving when I tried to put it into gear. I had the car towed to the dealership and it is currently there. I looked on Kelly Blue Book and saw there was a recall for my vehicle type and the recall states exactly what happened to my car. Can my VIN number be added to this recall since it is the very same mechanical issue? THE ABRUPT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, CAR SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL ON IT'S OWN. FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BECAUSE OF THE NEUTRAL SHIFT THERE IS NO POWER. I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE CAR.

HARSH/JERKY SHIFTING IN DSG POWER TRAIN UNIT. TYPICALLY AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. THIS CONDITION PREVIOUS INVESTIGATED THROUGH CLOSED CASE # PE09035. ISSUE RELATES TO EXCESS WEAR IN SOLENOID BUSHINGS. PREVIOUSLY REPORT BY NHTSA THAT VW ISSUED EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 10YEARS/100,000 MILES. CAR WAS WITHIN LIMITS BUT VW REFUSED REPAIR SAYING MECHATRONIC UNIT (WHERE THE DEFECTIVE VALVES ARE LOCATED) NOT COVERED BY AGREEMENT WITH NHTSA. CURRENT NHTSA WEB PAGES APPARENTLY INCORRECTLY REPORT THAT VW DOES REPLACE DEFECTIVE UNITS. JERKING IS DANGEROUS IN PARKING MANEUVERS.

ON SUNDAY, JUNE 30TH, 2019, @ ABOUT 6PM, @51K I WAS DRIVING 25MPH AND CAR JERKED, THEN THE RPMS REVVED REALLY HIGH AND CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND "PRNDS" LETTERS STARTED BLINKING. I SLOWED DOWN EVEN MORE AND CAR WAS STILL GOING AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL RPMS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT VERY SLOWLY THROUGH RESIDENTIAL STREETS TO MY HOUSE. WHEN I WAS GOING TO PARK IT IN MY SPOT, I HAD TO PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND WHEN I DID, IT DID NOT MOVE IN REVERSE! DURING ALL THIS THE "PRNDS" LIGHTS KEPT ON FLASHING. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, AND GET PUSHED INTO MY PARKING SPOT. WHEN I TESTED TO SEE IF CAR WOULD START, IT STARTED PERFECTLY, NO FLASHING LIGHT OR ANYTHING, NO DELAY OR TROUBLE TO START IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER TURNED ON EITHER. THE DAY BEFORE, I DID HAVE AN ISSUE WITH GETTING THE CAR STARTED, IT NEEDED A JUMP START, AND WHEN THE BATTERY WAS TESTED FOR ITS VOLTAGE, IT WAS RUNNING ON THE LOWER SIDE. I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT ALL DAY ON FRIDAY, AND THE STARTING ISSUES WERE ON SATURDAY. I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I MUST HAVE LEFT A LIGHT ON, BUT NOTHING WAS LEFT ON TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. EARLIER ON SUNDAY, I NEEDED TO GO ON ONE OUTING AND THE CAR DID GIVE ME TROUBLE TO START, WITH A DELAYED SLOW START, AND IT DROVE FINE TO MY DESTINATION LESS THAN 4 MILES AWAY. WHEN I LEFT THERE, THE CAR MANAGED TO START WITH THAT DELAY AGAIN, AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME IS WHEN THE CRAZY JERKING, RPM REVVING, AND CAR SLOWING DOWN HAPPENED ABOUT A MILE AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS VERY SCARY, AND I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME THING! I AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR! I HAD IT TOWED TO THE VW DEALER, AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. WHEN I WAS SIGNING IN AT THE DEALER, ANOTHER LADY WAS REGISTERING HER CAR FOR THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINT AND HER CAR WAS THE SAME EXACT CAR!!! VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY PROBLEM AND FIX IT!!!!

THIS AFFECTS TIGUANS, JETTAS, EOS, AND OTHER VWS WITH 2.0TSI ENGINES MANUFACTURED PRE 2013. THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS HAVE A DESIGN FLAW AND ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AT UNACCEPTABLY LOW MILEAGES. THESE WERE REPLACED WITH A NEW DESIGN TO CORRECT THIS FLAW BEGINNING IN SOME 2012 MODELS. HOWEVER, VW HAS NEVER FORMALLY RECALLED THESE OR ACKNOWLEDGED THE DESIGN FLAW. IF/WHEN IT FAILS, IT CAN RUIN THE ENGINE OFTEN CAUSING OVER $5K IN DAMAGES. THE WORKSHOP CONFIRMED I HAD THE OLD STYLE AND REPLACED MINE AT THE COST OF $873.68. THIS IS A WIDELY SPREAD, WIDELY DOCUMENTED PROBLEM THAT VW IS ONLY TREATING WHEN IT CAUSES ENGINE FAILURES. WHILE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM MOST OWNERS ARE IN THE DARK ABOUT IT, 'TAKING IT ON THE CHIN' AND SHELLING OUT MONEY PRESUMING IT'S JUST A NORMAL ERROR AND NOT KNOWING IT'S A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR. FOR A CAR WITH ONLY 85K MILES, I JUST PAID OVER $2K TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REDONE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING 1,800 IN REPAIRS FOR BROKEN SENSORS. WHILE I UNDERSTAND CERTAIN ITEMS WILL BRAKE OR REQUIRE REPAIR ON ANY CAR, THE TENSIONER DESIGN FLAW WITH THEIR UNWILLINGNESS TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS UNACCEPTABLY EGREGIOUS.

IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY - VW SAYS TOO BAD FOR YOU.

TURNING IT OFF AND ON TEMPORARILY FIXES BUT I RAN AN OBD AND CAME BACK P2711. THIS IS FOR A FAILURE WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION. SVC BULLETIN RECOMMENDS THE CLUTCH PACKS BE REPLACED. DEALER QUOTED ALMOST 3K TO DO THIS. THEY DID NOT INITIALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE DSG EVEN AFTER I POINTED IT OUT. WHAT IS WORSE, THIS CAR WAS TAKEN WHEN ONLY 4 YRS AND 49K MILES FOR TRANSMISSION WORK AND THEY RECOMMENDED IT BE REPLACE (FOR A QUOTE OVER 2K) BUT DID NOT MENTION THE WARRANTY AT THE TIME. SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION AT THE 40K INTERVALS! EVEN IF YOU DO, IT MIGHT FAIL! AT LEAST BE AWARE OF THE DSG 10YR 100K MILES WARRANTY - MUST HAVE TRANS FLUID CHANGE RECORDS THOUGH! 49K MILES AND THEY RECOMMENDED A TRANS REPLACEMENT!!!! 49K MILES! AND DIDN'T HONOR THE WARRANTY AND GET IT FIXED THEN... DEALERS ARE VERY HIT OR MISS (ALL MISS FROM WHAT I'VE EXPERIENCED).

WHEN BACKING OUT INTO A CITY STREET FROM A PARKING SPACE ON AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE GEAR DASH LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING AND THE CAR LOST POWER. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION, IT WAS PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED, ALL THE WHILE BLOCKING TRAFFIC AND CREATING AN UNSAFE DISABLED VEHICLE CONDITION. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON A STATE ROAD. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR, REVVING THE ENGINE AND QUICKLY SLOWING TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. AS WAS IN THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE PRND LIGHTS ON THE DASH BEGAN FLASHING. THIS OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND REQUIRED A VEHICLE FOLLOWING TO SWERVE TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION. I'M ASSUMING THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON. THESE TWO INCIDENTS RESULTED IN MY TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY VW DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT VWOA SUGGESTS THAT THE SOLUTION BE CHANGING THE CLUTCH PACKS WHICH DOES NOT APPEAR TO ADDRESS THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THAT WAS THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTION FROM VWOA TO THE DEALERSHIP.

I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO A VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE CENTER AND WAS INFORMED OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY REGARDING THE DSG. HOWEVER, VOLKSWAGEN HAS INFORMED ME THAT SINCE I DID NOT HAVE THE DSG SERVICED AT 40,000 MILES, IT WOULD NOT HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OR THE RECALL AND THE REQUIRED WORK WAS NEVER PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE DESPITE THE FACT THAT I PURCHASED IT IN OCTOBER 2012.

I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME DIDN'T MANAGE TO AVOID HITTING ME. VW WILL NOT ASSIST ME BECAUSE MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 100K MILES. MY CAR HAS 103K. I AM CONCERNED THAT MORE CARS WERE INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. FLASH OF DEATH ARTICLE BY ABC NEWS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME ON NOV 6 2015. VW SAYS MY CAR IS NOT AFFECTED. I DISAGREE.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM BALTIMORE ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 70MPH AND THE VEHICLE STARTED LOSING SPEED AND NOTHING I DID WOULD GET IT TO GO AGAIN. I HAD TO PULL OVER PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO GO AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 MORE TIMES DRIVING HOME TO PITTSBURGH. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY "FIXED IT". IT WORKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT SO THEY PUT SEAFOAM IN MY CAR. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AND THEY HAD MY CAR FOR MONTHS. THEY THINK THE SEAFOAM HID THE PROBLEM FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THEY REPLACED FUEL INJECTORS AND THAT HELPED FOR ABOUT 400 MILES. I JUST MADE A TRIP TO CHICAGO AND THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN THERE AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. NOW I AM AT 85,000 AND IT JUST HAPPENED ON AUGUST 6, 2015. ONCE AGAIN VW CORPORATE IS NOT BEING OF MUCH ASSISTANCE. I WAS TOLD BY VW COPORATE IN FEBRUARY 2015 TO DUMP THE CAR AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME $1,000 OFF A NEW VW. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE AND I AM NOT GETTING ANYWHERE WITH EITHER THE DEALER OR VW CORPORATE. I HAVE READ OTHER BLOGS AND I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY EOS OWNER HAVING THIS PROBLEM. AUGUST 2013: 2009 VW EOS ABRUPTLY LOST POWER, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, AND THE DASHBOARD (PRND) FLASHED ERRATICALLY; HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE. A VW MASTER MECHANIC OF 14 YEARS TOLD ME THAT THE DSG TEMPERATURE SENSOR SHOULD BE REPAIRED AND MECHATRONICS UNIT SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED. HE ADVISED I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR THE RECALL/WARRANTY REPAIRS. PRESTIGE VW, TURNERSVILLE, NJ TOLD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION (5700 DOLLARS), DUE TO "INTERNAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES". NO DEFINITIVE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED.I WAS THEN TOLD THEY WOULD CONTACT VWOA SO THEY "COULD GO TO BAT FOR ME" BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THAT "NO ONE BUYS A VOLKSWAGEN EXPECTING THE TRANSMISSION TO GO AT 74K MILES". A CLAIM WOULD BE SUBMITTED ON MY BEHALF; DUE TO NEW VW POLICY THEY 'MUST' USE A THIRD-PARTY CLAIM SERVICE-VW WOULD NO LONGER ACCEPT DIRECT CLAIMS. I CALLED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS PUT OFF EACH TIME PROMISED A RETURN CALL. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 5 WEEKS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I CALLED VWOA DIRECTLY, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY I) HAVE NO RECORD OF A CLAIM INITIATED BY THE DEALER; II) DO NOT REQUIRE DEALERS TO USE A THIRD-PARTY CLAIM SERVICE; AND III) RELY ON THEIR DEALERS' DETERMINATION OF PROBLEMS. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED FOR MY AND MY CHILD'S SAFETY. GAS PEDAL WAS BEING ENGAGED TO GET INTO THE SPACE WHEN CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND RAPIDLY LUNGED FORWARD STRIKING TWO PARKED CARS IN THE PARKING ROW FACING THIS SPACE. PROPERTY DAMAGE ON THIS VEHICLE AND THE TWO VEHICLES STRUCK WAS SIGNIFICANT. THIS CAR HAD SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION THE DAY BEFORE; AFTER THE SUDDEN JUMP FORWARD THE CAR RESUMED A NORMAL ACCELERATION. INSURER AND DEALER HAVE ASSURED US THEY WILL INVESTIGATE. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE RECENT RECALL APPLIED ALREADY, AND WE'VE EXPERIENCED A PREVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE PRNDS LIGHTS FLASHING (REPORTED ALREADY) AND THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING 40MPH, AND ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH ONLY THE D LIGHT FLASHING, ALSO REMAINING IN NEUTRAL, FROM STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE A PARKING SPOT. I PURCHASED MY 2009 VW EOS ON AUGUST 30, 2008. ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2008 AFTER ONLY APPROXIMATELY 1,300 MILES, A VALVE THAT MEASURES THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CLUTCH MALFUNCTIONED. AS A "SAFETY" PRECAUTION THE TRANSITION WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS IF THE CLUTCH TEMPERATURE IS TOO HIGH. THIS VALVE MALFUNCTIONED WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR OPERATED AS THOUGH I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND REVVED THE ENGINE. ONCE OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT TOOK ME THREE TRIES TO RESTART MY CAR. I PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE FREEWAY AND GET TO A SAFER DESTINATION. WHILE DOING SO THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES. UPON TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THE ENGINE SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED. ONLY UPON DEMANDING TO SPEAK WITH THE HEAD MECHANIC AND BEING ASKED TO FULLY DESCRIBE THE SITUATION THAT THE TRUE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. IT WAS MADE CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE MALFUNCTIONING VALE CAUSES A PRESSURE PROBLEM IN THE TRANSITION.
