Rough idle on start. RPM is not maintaining to keep the engine running. After a few try, it starts ok and drive off the parking lot, but the engine dies after about 10 seconds over 30mph. It feels like gasoline is not igniting corretly. Scanned Error Code P0171: System Too Lean Bank 1 P0190: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit Dealership can't replicate the issue and find the issue. Could be related to Fuel System Recall.
AS I SLOWED DOWN COMING TO A STOP SIGN, I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AS IF IT WAS AN AUTO OFF/AUTO ON FEATURE. THE ENGINE DID NOT TURN BACK ON AUTOMATICALLY. THIS HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AFTER AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED.

I HAVE A 2019 VOLKSWAGEN GTI 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHILE I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS TO THE LOCAL FOOD STORE AND HARDWARE STORE, I CAME TO A COMPLETE AND FULL STOP AT A STOP SIGN. AT THIS TIME THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL DISENGAGED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. I NOTICED THE CAR HAD A SOFT STALL. THIS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF ABOUT 6 TIMES. IT IS ALMOST AS IF THE CAR HAS THE AUTO STOP FEATURE THAT TURNS THE ENGINE OFF AT A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP BUT MY CAR IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THAT OPTION. I FEEL AS IF THE ENGINE IS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS CUTTING OFF. I ALSO FEEL IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION THINKING THAT THE CAR IS IN A DIFFERENT GEAR AND NOT ENOUGH RPMS TO SUSTAIN THAT GEAR. I ALSO FEEL IT COULD BE A VACUUM LEAK WHICH IS NOT SENDING THE RIGHT SIGNALS TO THE ENGINE COMPUTER OR SOMETHING ELSE. AT THE TIME OF THIS HAPPENING IT WAS SUNNY AND IN MID FIFTIES IN TEMPERATURE.

MY 2019 VW GTI-S IS EQUIPPED WITH A DSG TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING IT IN MANUAL SPORT MODE ON THE FREEWAY ON SUNDAY 1 MARCH 2020. AFTER GETTING OFF OF THE FREEWAY AND ONTO THE CITY SURFACE STREETS, THE CAR STALLED WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD NOT TURNED OFF THE ENGINE START/STOP DEFEAT FEATURE OFF BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. ANOTHER 6-7 STALLS OCCURRED AS I DROVE THE CAR THE FEW MILES BACK HOME AFTER DROPPING OFF A FRIEND. THERE WERE 4-5 PREVIOUS INDIVIDUAL INCIDENTS PRIOR TO SUNDAY. ON MONDAY 2 MARCH WHILE I DROVE THE CAR HOME ON THE FREEWAY IN STOP AND GO COMMUTE TRAFFIC THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS; HOWEVER AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY THE CAR STALLED AGAIN 3 SEPARATE TIMES AFTER I CAME TO A FULL STOP AT THE SIGNALS AND STOP SIGNS LEADING TO MY HOME. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I AM WORRIED SINCE THE PRINCIPAL DRIVER OF THIS CAR WILL EVENTUALLY BE MY WIFE. SHE IS OFTEN DRIVING ON THE STREETS OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA. IT IS EASY TO GET READ ENDED AS THE DRIVER IN BACK OF YOU EXPECTS YOU TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY AWAY FROM THE GREEN SIGNAL LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AFTER YOU HAVE STOPPED. IT TAKES TIME TO SHIFT THE GEAR LEVER BACK INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK TO START THE CAR AGAIN. SINCE I AM PUTTING IN THE "BREAK-IN" MILES ON THE CAR I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS EXACT SITUATION AND HAVE GOTTEN HONKED FOR NOT MOVING AWAY SWIFTLY FROM THE INTERSECTION AS ONE NORMALLY WOULD ON THE CITY STREETS. THE GTI CURRENTLY HAS 671 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND HOPING THAT THEY WILL BUY IT BACK SO I CAN GET MY WIFE INTO A SAFER MODEL.

THE CAR IS RANDOMLY STALLING OUT ON ME. AFTER READING SEVERAL ARTICLES ON THE INTERNET I NOW SEE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. IT IS CURRENTLY AT MY LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE CENTER. IT HAPPENED AFTER MY FIRST 10K MIKE SERVICE AND HAS STALLED 4 OR 5 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO DAYS ONCE ON A HIGHWAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING.
CAR IS VW GOLF GTI WITH SIX-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. CAR HAS 400 MILES FROM NEW. WHILE COMING TO A STOPLIGHT AT SLOW SPEED, WITH CLUTCH PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED AND TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE ACTION WAS SO QUIET THAT IT WAS NOT NOTICEABLE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ENGAGED FIRST GEAR AND RELEASED THE CLUTCH PEDAL, BUT DID NOT MOVE FORWARD. ONLY THEN DID I REALIZE THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. AFTER DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND PRESSING THE START BUTTON, THE ENGINE RE-STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OFF AS NORMAL.

ALSO HAS STALLED AFTER GETTING OFF HIGHWAY 6 TIMES NOW, EACH TIME WHILE SLOWING FOR A RED LIGHT OR STOPPED. TOTAL OF 9 OR SO STALLS NOW. CAR IS BRAND NEW, PURCHASED WITH 33 MILES ON IT. NOW UP TO ABOUT 300 MILES TOTAL.

2019 WHITE GTI SE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION PURCHASED ON 11/27/19 IN DALY CITY, CA. CURRENT MILEAGE ~ 2,300. CAR ENGINE SHUTS DOWN INTERMITTENTLY/ RANDOMLY AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN COMING TO A STOP, EITHER AT NEUTRAL OR IN 1ST GEAR OR REVERSE WITH CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS OVER TWO WEEKS AGO AFTER I SWITCHED DRIVING MODES FROM SPORT TO ECO MODE. THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUOUSLY SHUT DOWN ALMOST EVERY TIME I CAME TO A STOP, TO THE POINT OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF CONTINUOUSLY AND UNABLE TO REMAIN ON AS I WAS PARKING MY CAR ON A HILL. I TOOK MY CAR OUT FOR A DRIVE A FEW HOURS LATER AND IT DROVE NORMALLY, UNTIL IT SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN MY CAR IS WARMED UP AND AT NORMAL TEMPERATURES, USUALLY AFTER DRIVEN FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. EVERY TIME IT'S HAPPENED, IT WAS ON CITY STREETS AND INTERSECTIONS. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND THEY RESET THE ECU, AND WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. HAVEN'T HAD THE PROBLEM REAPPEAR UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO, AND WAS EVEN ABLE TO RECORD A VIDEO OF IT OCCURRING. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR THE SECOND TIME NOW FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.

ON THREE OCCASIONS, WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, WITH BOTH CLUTCH PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE HAS DIED. IN TWO OF THESE INCIDENTS THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART ON FIRST ATTEMPT, BUT ONLY ON THE SECOND TRY. THE CURRENT ODOMETER READING IS JUST UNDER 400 MILES. THE TIME BETWEEN THESE INCIDENTS WAS 2 TO 10 DAYS APART. NONE OF THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON A THOROUGHFARE. ONE WAS ON MY DRIVEWAY, WHEREAS THE OTHER TWO WERE IN A STORE OR RESTAURANT PARKING AREA. TO PROIVDE CONTEXT, I'VE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS 13 YEARS, WITH MY PREVIOUS CAR BEING A 6MT 2013 GTI, AND NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS TYPE OF ISSUE BEFORE. TO TEST WHETHER IT'S HUMAN ERROR, I CONCIOUSLY PRESSED DOWN ON THE CLUTCH AS HARD AS I COULD AND KEPT IT ENGAGED UNTIL FULL STOP TO ENSURE I WASN'T RELEADING TOO EARLY, BUT THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTED. WHEN STOPPED, ENGINE IDLES AT 800RPM AND THEN SHUTS DOWN SOFTLY. CAR RESTARTS RIGHT AWAY BY TURNING KEY. TODAY, CAR STALLED SIX TIMES BETWEEN 7:50AM AND 8:20AM WHILE DRIVING ON A 25 MPH STREET WITH TRAFFIC LIGHTS. IT DOES NOT SHUT DOWN AT EVERY STOP, AND WHEN IT DOES, IT DOES SO WITH BOTH A/C ON AND OFF. ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS NORMAL, AND OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 73 DEGREES. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 300 MILES, BUT THE ISSUE STARTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP. YESTERDAY DROVE ALMOST 300 MILES. THIS ALL HAPPENED WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF THERE HAD BEEN CARS COMING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS MY DOING SO I SPENT SOME TIME TRYING TO RECREATE THE ISSUE. I INSISTED THAT THE TECH COME OUT DRIVING WITH ME. DROVE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND AT THE LIGHT BEFORE GETTING BACK TO THE DEALER IT HAPPENED! CAR WAS LEFT IN THE SHOP FOR 6 MORE DAYS WHILE THEY FIXED THE ISSUE. RECEIVED THE CAR BACK A WEEK LATER AND WAS TOLD THEY CALLED VW AND WERE GIVEN A FIX. APPARENTLY THERE WAS DEBRIS FROM THE MANUFACTURING PLANT ON A SENSOR AND THAT WAS CAUSING IT. REPLACED THE SENSOR AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL..... FOR A WEEK AND A HALF. THIS MORNING I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. 3 TIMES IN A MATTER OF 10 MINUTES IN FACT. TOOK THE CAR STRAIGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS ONCE AGAIN MADE TO FEEL LIKE I WAS DOING SOMETHING WRONG. ONCE AGAIN HAD TO GO TEST DRIVE THE CAR WITH A TECH. LUCKY THIS IS A REAL ISSUE AND IT HAPPENED WITH THE TECH VIDEO RECORDING THE EVENT. WAS TOLD THAT HE NEEDS TO CALL VW AND FIGURE OUT THE NEXT STEPS. ON JAN 29, 2019, I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW, FROM A DEALER IN SOUTH FLORIDA WITH APPROXIMATELY 13 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE LESS THAN ONE MILE FROM THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN NEUTRAL, WITH THE CLUTCH PETAL IN THE FULLY RAISED POSITION, AND HAD BEEN IDLING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE OCCURRENCE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED. ON THE SHORT DRIVE BACK, THE CAR STALLED 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANY EXPLANATION FOR THE STALLING. UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, I DROVE THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 150 MORE MILES. ON FEBRUARY 1, 2019, THE ISSUE RECURRED, AGAIN AT A STOPLIGHT UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS. I CAN ASSERT, WITH CONFIDENCE, THAT NONE OF THE OCCURRENCES WERE DUE TO DRIVER ERROR. ADDITIONALLY, THE CAR IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO-START SYSTEM (WHICH COULD HAVE EXPLAINED THE BEHAVIOR). ALTHOUGH THE ISSUE HAS NOT RESURFACED SINCE THEN (NOW ABOUT 3000 MILES LATER), THE CAR EXHIBITS A ROUGH IDLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN STARTED COLD. THERE IS NO VISIBLE FLUCTUATION IN THE RPMS ON THE TACHOMETER, BUT I CAN AUDIBLY HEAR AND FEEL THE ENGINE "SKIPPING". THE CAR BUILD DATE WAS OCTOBER 2018.

THEY EVEN CONTACTED AND WORKED WITH VWOA BUT WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR CLOSE TO 2 WEEKS TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT FIXES, BUT NONE WORKED. SO WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, THEY DID A 'CAPACITIVE HARD REBOOT' OF THE SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FIXED. HOWEVER, AFTER I PICKED THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP, IT STALLED TWICE ON MY DRIVE HOME. NOW, IT'S BEEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS SINCE THEN AND IT HASN'T STALLED SINCE, BUT IT DOESN'T GIVE ME MUCH CONFIDENCE THAT IT WON'T RETURN IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE REBOOT DID.

THE OTHER 4 TIMES WERE IN 2ND GEAR AT LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 8 AND 10 MPH WHEN I WAS EITHER PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY OR GOING OVER A LONG BUT LOW AND NOT AGGRESSIVE SPEED BUMP. THE STALL WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I WOULD DEPRESS THE CLUTCH, NOT ON THE RELEASE.

THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP IN NEUTRAL, THEN WILL REQUIRE RESTARTING. PROBLEM IS MORE PERSISTENT IN WARMER TEMPERATURE AND ALSO WHEN THE OIL TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 220 DEGREES. HOWEVER DOES NOT CAUSE CEL OR THROW ANY CODES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION BECAUSE I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR WHICH CAN PUT ME IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
