The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V836000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact requested vehicle rental assistance and a place to park the fire risk vehicle; however, the request was denied. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Jan 7, 2026 Fire

My ID.4 was charging in the driveway and it started on fire. My daughter came home from a friends house, saw it had started on fire, and called 911. By the time the fire department got to my house the fire had spread to the attic and continued further. My wife and pets were in the house when the fire started, but got out quickly. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent inspector in my driveway and then it was taken to an offsite facility in California to have an additional inspection. VW and Farmers Insurance (my insurance) have been involved with both inspections, but i have yet to see any information about that inspection. We saw no warning lights or any reason that we would have thought the car would start on fire. Your website would only allow me to add one photo. I have more photos that i would be happy to provide.

Dec 3, 2025 Fire

My Volkswagen ID.4 experienced a sudden crack in the windshield followed by smoke and fire near the dashboard/A-pillar area. The manufacturer denied responsibility and claimed the windshield crack caused the fire, but glass cannot ignite or cause an electrical fire. This is a serious safety hazard because the fire originated where electrical components and sensors are located. The incident occurred without any collision or external impact. The vehicle is still under lease, and Volkswagen refuses to investigate further. I am reporting this in case this defect affects more vehicles and poses a risk to other owners.

23 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD (82 kWh LG battery, <25k miles). Vehicle has permanently lost ~25% of usable battery capacity in less than 2 years. At 80% state-of-charge the Guess-O-Meter consistently shows only 200–205 miles (full-range estimate 250–255 miles instead of EPA 275 / real-world 280–300 miles in similar conditions). Multiple dealer-recommended BMS recalibrations (discharge below 10%, sit overnight, slow-charge to 100%) have failed to restore range. Persistent charging faults: B17E0F0 (charge connector lock), P1BF100 (no AC voltage detected), P1CAF00 (zero current time exceeded). Dealer has repeatedly claimed the condition is normal and refused full HV battery capacity diagnostic. Defect has been reproduced on multiple occasions and documented with screenshots and DTCs. This creates a safety risk due to severely inaccurate range prediction and potential for stranding. Request NHTSA investigate premature high-voltage battery degradation and charging system defects in 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 models equipped with LG batteries.

This event occurred on the night of Saturday, October 25. The entire software system crashed while driving on the highway in downtown chicago. This blacked out both the HMI screens (the driver "cockpit" and the media / vehicle management screen). This rendered the speedometer, battery charge indicator, cruise control indicator, media center, and advanced sensors unusable. I still able to accel/decel, use turn signals, and steer the car as normal but I could not tell how fast I was going nor how much remaining charge there was. After 1-2 minutes, the system fully rebooted and worked fine the rest of the trip. This was the first blackout we'd experienced--and it was the first time the cockpit (speedometer and such) was affected. However, the media center HMI regularly locks up and glitches: loading menus not linked to the certain buttons, lockups when multiple devices are connected, inability to reach VW servers,...) Software is on the most recent version available for my vehicle trim, though versions with many issues fixed have since been released. (We are stuck on ID software version 3.5 despite the most recent version being around 3.8.)

The component that keeps failing is the instrument panel and display panel completely blackout when driving. The instrument panels come back on shortly after blacking out. It also shows a message sometimes in red and sometimes in yellow that there's an electrical malfunction. That message goes away shortly as well. This has happened numerous times over the 3 years I've owned the car. Each time it happens its a total distraction and could result in a risk of a crash. I've taken it in for service multiple times and the dealer reports no findings because they can't replicate it. The last time I took it in they kept the car 2 months and when it was returned to me within the the first 2.5 hours it blacked out again. I've been in contact with VW Corporate and asked if this was related to NHTSA campaign number 24V34400 and they said my VIN is not affected by this recall. VW corporate says I have to pay $200 to the dealer if I want them to try and diagnose it again. I told them that's ridiculous, it should be included in recall number 24V34400. This is defefenitly a safety issue and not an isolated one just to my car.

Car cannot connect to internet so many functions are failing. Safety issue is the Emergency Response is non functional so in an accident cannot call emergency responders. Warranty service for this issue is refused, VW will not replace inoperative modules. Many other non-safety issue are effective including recognizing key for using car, GPS, etc.

I am writing to bring to your attention an issue we recently encountered with our 2023 VW ID.4. We began hearing a clicking noise and brought the vehicle in for a diagnostic inspection. The dealership has informed us that the rear drive motor has failed and that the vehicle requires a full motor replacement, estimated at nearly $5,000. Our ID.4 is only 2.5 years old with 62,000 miles. We have truly enjoyed driving it and chose Volkswagen because of its reputation for quality and reliability. To see such a critical component fail this early is very disappointing.

Sep 19, 2025

We have dozens of videos of our ID.4 continuing to malfunction after the 919A recall had supposedly been completed. There are a slew of electrical and software issues related to windows, door handles, infotainment, charger handle disengagement, brakes and various sensors… We have gone through all of the proper channels. Two dealerships have attempted to advocate for us in Illinois and VW refuses to acknowledge any ongoing issues. It appears, possibly, that the ODIS system is not logging these errors at all. Files too large to upload. Can provide links.

While driving the infotainment system switched off entirely, the screen went black and after roughly 1 minute rebooted. I had both my hands on the steering wheel and was NOT operating the infotainment system. During this time, the right hand side of main clocks/dials in front of the driver inverted from black background to white background. Fortunately I was at a traffic light when this happened. I waited for the system to reset before I released the brake and drove on, it was not a very pleasant experience. I have already had software upgraded based on a previous recall to address this very issue. So clearly the recall did not address the issue.

Sep 9, 2025 Crash

I was turning into a parking space on the street. I let my foot off the gas in order to brake.... as I did so the car LURCHED forward on its own about 2-3 feet running into the curb and damaging the wheel, the rim and the tire. I stomped on the brake, turned off the car, and restarted the car in order to finish parking (get out of traffic) and assess the damage. Thankfully nobody was hurt, although I am quite shaken up, losing confidence in the car... I have no idea what system malfunctioned.. the car went forward on its own with my foot off the accelerator. I've never experienced this before with this car or any other car. I drove the car directly to the service department at the dealership where they said they would inspect it and report it as well. I have not called the police. I have not alerted the insurance company. There were no warning lights before or after this incident.

Sep 8, 2025

This issue relates to NHTSA Recall 24V344 / VW Recall 919A as the repair for this recall has already been applied to my vehicle. Despite that, while driving, my vehicle experienced a complete electronics shutdown, including loss of the instrument cluster, center display, and rearview camera. This occurred after the recall 919A software update was applied. As such, I believe the safety of my self and others was put at risk. I brought my vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and they identified fault code U111000 with symptom 7223 but informed me that this was classified “non-customer-relevant” and therefore should be ignored. I believe the repair that Volkswagen has provided for Recall 24V344 is ineffective and the conditions that instigated this recall still exist.

Sep 5, 2025

The cruise control failed to slow down , instead it accelerated . My safety and the safety of my families was put at risk due to a sudden stop in I25 southbound cause us to slow down and when I pushed the down arrows to slow us down and pushed the brake pedal we didn’t slow down, instead we were jolted forward in accelerating speeds. Thankfully we missed the car in front of us due to us me swerving into the shoulder to assure no collision. The problem has happened on 4 different occasions. Volkswagen is aware of the issue and we have not received any kind of update or remedy for the defect. No one has inspected it , we were to have an appointment this Monday Sept 9th to have it all checked out. The gps , sos button , road side assistance and speedometer aren’t functioning properly in our car as well. No warnings lights were on and no notifications of any problems.

Aug 19, 2025

There has been an active recall on this vehicle for one year. The dealership has failed to repair the door handle recall in a timely manner. The dealerships I have called said they don’t have the parts in stock to repair the recall.

Aug 18, 2025

The front left headlight parking light went out after 24 months. This is a product quality issue which should not happen.

Aug 15, 2025

It appears that the wiring was chewed by a rodent. It also looks like it could be a case of the wiring rubbing on the vehicle and exposing the hv wire.

Aug 11, 2025

While driving at highway speeds, driver display went blank without warning. Similar symptoms to known issue causing a recall that was supposedly remedied.

Jul 18, 2025

I’m reporting a recurring issue with my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 involving the electrical system and battery. Since December 2024, the vehicle has consistently displayed an “Electrical Malfunction” warning every single time the vehicle is turned on. This warning is always present — whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion — and does not clear. In addition, the infotainment and digital displays have shut down while driving, interfering with navigation and essential vehicle functions. The vehicle has undergone three separate battery replacements and one software repair, yet the issue persists. I’ve had to continue driving the vehicle with this constant malfunction alert due to extended wait times for service availability — sometimes over a month — with only one EV-certified technician per dealer in my area. All repairs and service confirmations have been completed by VW South Orlando, and the vehicle remains in the shop as of July 2025. I believe this unresolved electrical fault presents a serious and ongoing safety concern.

The right rear passenger door has become completely inoperable. It cannot be opened from the inside or outside of the vehicle. This is a critical safety risk because two child car seats are installed in the back, and the right side is the only accessible exit for an adult passenger. In the event of an accident or emergency, that adult would not be able to exit the vehicle. Additionally, the rear trunk has also intermittently failed to open since purchase. Both issues have been reported to the dealership. The trunk issue was previously noted but not repaired, and the door issue, which was intermittent at first, has now become a full failure. The problem has been documented on video and reported to both the dealership and the vehicle manufacturer. There were no warning lights or error messages, and no physical impact caused the failure. The dealership has been unable to provide timely repair or transportation assistance, leaving the vehicle unsafe for use with children. These issues may be related to known or recalled door and latch failures on this vehicle model. The car is under warranty and has fewer than 8,000 miles on it. Manufacturer inspection has not yet occurred due to scheduling delays.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that when the battery was charged to 80%, the vehicle could only be driven for less than 150 miles instead of the 270-275 miles as expected. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was not able to diagnose a cause of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,570.

Even after the 919A recall fix was applied for the restarting black screen, my ID4 screens are still restarting. This has happened twice when I get in the car and power it on.

Mar 28, 2025

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at a charging station, the messages "Low voltage battery fault detected" and "Main electrical fault detected" were displayed. The contact became aware that the vehicle was no longer responding to user input; however, after about an hour the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V125000 (Electrical System); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000. The VIN was not available.

While driving between 45-50 mph the internment cluster went out and the center console did a reboot. I could not see the odometer and the brake worked but the excoriator did not seem as responsive as it normally is. This issues has occurred 2 other times and was taken to VW for service. There has also been instances of the car lunging forward spontaneously usually in a drive through or close follow traffic conditions. The technician said we needed to record it happening.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V120000 (Power Train, Service Brakes, Hydraulic), 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System), and 24V651000 (Structure); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that after shifting to park(P) on an incline, the hazard lights started flashing, and the indicator lights and horn were unintentionally activated. The contact reversed a little and shifted back into park(P), and the failure was self-corrected. The failure occurred again while parked in a parking lot with the vehicle unoccupied. The contact returned to the vehicle, and the failure was self-corrected. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the software update was unavailable under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V120000 (Power Train, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System). The dealer placed the contact on a waiting list for the repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure) for 5 months. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

On [XXX], our 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S which kept breaking down during our Vegas trip. It’s still under manufacturer warranty. 17,931 miles, VIN # [XXX] . We got home around 10:30 PM on July 7th after leaving Vegas before noontime, EV battery overheated in the 120 degrees heat at Baker and 112 degrees temperature at Barstow and couldn’t be driven until battery cooled hours later after each stop. It was a complete nightmare with my poor wife and kids in that super hot weather. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.

Feb 11, 2025

I've had to replace the 12v battery in my ID.4 due to battery failure twice since I've owned it, and according to the service department at VW, the battery was replaced on delivery too. So that's a total of three batteries since it came off the production line. I'm also having issues with my doors handles not working properly and haven't been able to have the open recall performed on my vehicle due to backordered parts. It's been more than 6 months since the issue started and I still don't have any updates. The infotainment screen randomly blanks out while driving and is especially problematic when I'm backing the car up because the backup camera cuts out and is a huge safety issue. Lastly, the windows roll down when I press up on the switch which has caused a bunch of issues when driving in snow/rain. I was told it is due to an overly sensitive pinch monitor system and that there's no fix for it. All in all, I don't feel like I can trust the car and definitely don't feel safe driving it.

I am writing to express my growing concern regarding ongoing issues with my vehicle, specifically related to the recalls. Over the past year or two, I have contacted both the Libertyville and Palatine, Illinois dealerships numerous times for updates, but I have not received any meaningful responses or resolutions. Despite my repeated requests for repairs, I have been informed that the repairs cannot be made due to a national shortage. As a parent of two infants, I find the issues with the disappearing display and malfunctioning locks to be extremely dangerous. These safety concerns pose a significant risk to my family, and I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a timely solution. I would greatly appreciate any updates on the availability of the necessary parts and an expedited repair process

Malfunctioning electrical and software in the vehicle. Vehicle's speedometer gauge display will occasionally go blank while driving. Longest video recorded event was 15 minutes of continuous operation with no displays on the speedometer or the infotainment screens. Infotainment system will also periodically reset. Dealer has tried many times to fix the issue, replacing infotainment screen multiple times and other control modules. At one point the infotainment system was resetting every 5 mins on the dot. Having issues with the backup camera staying on as well. Many times it will not be on steady, flickering on and off while in reverse. First reported occurance at 10,000

Two problems. 1) the infotainment module cuts in and out. 2) Most important, the vehicle lunged ahead for no reason from a dead stop. We were lucky not to hit the truck in front of us. The vehicle is not safe to drive. VW corporate doesn't answer their phone and the dealer keeps giving us 800 numbers to try to contact them. What can we do?

My ID.4 charging function is not working as it has has in the past: 1. the "plug to charge" function at Electrify America (uses the vehicle VIN to automatically activate the charging session and payment) worked previously and now does not work. I have attempted it at 14 different stations at two different locations of EA today (and it has not been working for the past few charging sessions at EA). 2. charging cable should automatically unlock when charging is complete (it is setup that way in the car and has worked in the past). To release requires pressing the unlock button on the remote 3 times or pull the manual release cord in the trunk of the car. 3. charging rates are abnormally low...about 70 kWh when the car usually charges at 100-160 kWh rate my concern is that the "CP" terminal and/or communications channel is faulty and could cause a serious error in charging rate, voltage or over-charging resulting in a fire or explosion, since that terminal controls those functions as well as "plug to charge". thus far i have not received sufficient response from the manufacturer's dealer on this issue (i do not believe they have the equipment to adequately test the physical connector on the car or the communications data stream).

On December 4, 2024, I left a Volkswagen ID.4 electric car in for service of Volkswagen due to software and door locking issues. The service manager confirmed the problems but stated that the vehicle has not yet received any repairs from Volkswagen and that there is no solution available. I have been given ongoing, negligent responses, such as being told that the only option is to buy another car or that there is nothing they can do. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The software system and door locking mechanism are malfunctioning. Both issues are related to unrepairable recalls from Volkswagen. The software issues are causing electrical faults, stopping problems, and unsafe braking performance. The door locking issue prevents proper functionality, likely due to a malfunction in the locking system, which also impacts the security and safety of the vehicle. The car is experiencing significant issues related to software, electrical faults, stopping problems, and, most concerning, unsafe brakes. These issues present a serious safety risk. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The brake system has become unsafe due to electrical and software failures, which could result in an inability to stop the vehicle properly or in a timely manner, presenting a significant safety hazard. Additionally, the malfunctioning door locks compromise the vehicle's security, which could lead to unauthorized access. The combination of these issues not only poses a risk to the driver but also to passengers and others on the road, especially if the braking system fails unexpectedly.

Dec 5, 2024

Both main panel and infotainments system of the vehicle are inoperable. No information on the vehicle is available when operating it such as speed/charge remaining/safety information such as engine lights/cameras, etc.

Dec 2, 2024

From purchase this vehicle’s passenger door/door handle have not function properly. One time the door opened without manipulating the door handle. Too many times to count the door handle is used to open the door, however, the door doesn’t open. The door opening spontaneously is obviously a safety concern. The door not opening when attempting to open it, could also be a safety concern if needing urgent egress. The second issue has been with the electrical system. Greater than five times the monitor and seemingly the entire electrical system goes blank. On two occasions this sent the car to “limp mode “. This is the safety concern due to it occurring in traffic.

Nov 25, 2024

Center display sporadically resets while driving causing loss of speedometer information and loss of rearview camera image and parking sensors. This vehicle fails to comply with regulatory requirements. There is an increase risk of crash or injury when driving or backing up.

Nov 24, 2024

Multiple times over the weekend of 11/16/2024 I attempted to put my vehicle into reverse as normal and the backup camera failed to initiate. I had to restart the car to remedy the situation. This is a different glitch than what I previously experienced with the screens going blank. I have contacted VW about these issues and thus far they have been unwilling to remedy the situation. This issue is a CLEAR safety risk as my son or other children playing in the driveway or street near this car are in danger without a functioning back up camera. In my case I refused to move the car until I was able to get the backup camera to engage. Sometimes this required multiple restarts of the car to stop the glitch.

So our door handles have not been working to the point where my kids are stuck in the car and they can’t open the door and from the outside we are not able to open the door. We have safety warnings that pop up often then disappear and also we have our screens turn black and take a mom to turn back on. We have called VW corporate and they told us to keep taking it in then we take it for service and they can’t do anything due to them not having a solution to fix these issues because their under recalls and were physically having the issues they can’t do anything. It’s annoying and it’s a huge safety issue for us and our kids!!

Third time that the key fob was not found. Prior 2 times I was stationary. Third time I was in transit as the key fob was not detected. 30 seconds later the error message went away. Prior the car would not work or start without key fob detected. Concerning that the key fob would stop operation in the middle of the road as it has refused to operate for me in the past. 2nd time this happened, it forced me to uber back home to fetch another FOB, which did not resolve the issue. Not only did this cost me 1+ hour of time, I do not believe its a battery issue in the FOB. Both FOB are less than 10 months old. 2nd FOB did not work as well. Eventually the key was detected after some amount waiting period.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that the battery failed to recharge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed to the dealer, a message that the 12-Volt battery had failed was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the 12-Volt battery was replaced. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front driver's side and passenger's side seats were moving and making an abnormal squeaking sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the seats were not fully secured in the sliding mechanism from the factory. The dealer secured the seats. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the speedometer displayed inaccurate speed information. The contact then noticed that the instrument cluster and the infotainment system had become inoperable. Additionally, the rearview camera became inoperable while reversing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer reset the instrument cluster, and the vehicle operated as needed; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH, the front driver's side door unlatched and slightly opened, and the power door lock master switch was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with an internal electrical door latch assembly failure, causing all four doors to lock and unlock independently. The dealer removed and replaced the front driver's electrical door latch assembly and cleared all the DTC codes; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as intended. The manufacturer declined to buy back the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 2,922.

I was in an accident 12/14/2023. Doors will not unlock when need to open door to leave. When repair was completed. I told them about the problem when I got my car service, VW dealer said their a recall for that.

After six months, VW still doesn't have a repair for recall 24V344. My speedometer, backup camera, climate control, and all other functions controlled via the display screens malfunction. Both the dealer and and VW customer service have confirmed that no repair is available and they also will not provide a refund or replacement. My only option is to continue driving the car with malfunctioning key systems.

The speedometer, infotainment system have stopped working and the driver seat warmer turned on randomly while driving. On 10/4/2024, I noticed the car’s main infotainment system was unresponsive and showing a wrong time and frozen. I was driving and could not stop and moments later the speedometer was starting to malfunction as well. I was driving on a local high way and the speedometer indicated I was going at 1 mph or similar. When I was stopped at the stop light it indicated I was going at 4 mph. To avoid collisions, I drove at the speed of traffic. Also the seat warmer turned on randomly. The same day, we called to schedule an appointment with VW near our house and brought the vehicle in the next day. They took a few days to work on it. Once the car was ready, I visited the dealership and the report said they could not reproduce the issues. I asked if then how they could fix the issues and they were unable to and just updated module.

Nov 12, 2024

While driving on a freeway the screens recently went fully blank on the car consistent with the open recall software issues. In addition I recently put my car in reverse and the rear view camera failed to load in a timely manner. I have contacted VW dealer and corporate to initiate a buy back but have heard nothing from either party and any attempt to repair these conditions.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

On two occasions the entire instrument panel went dark. Speed and other information were not available. It is my perception that lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking for collision avoidance and other safety systems were not available during those incidents. I have inquired of dealership maintenance personnel, and they do not know how many systems are affected. When these incidents occur, it is disconcerting for me as a driver and could cause an accident. If the safety systems are not functioning, then the probability of high-speed collision is increased. Examples of that would include front-rear collision at highway speed and lane changing or merging on expressways. A recall for these problems was issued in May, 2024 with an update in July but the manufacturer says they don't know how to fix it. I have asked them for either a prompt repair or for them to buy-back the car. They have denied my request. I believe that so much time has passed that they should be required to repurchase the car.

As I was driving my vehicle around 5 miles per hour on a small street looking for parking, the car had some electrical malfunction that caused it to move forward and hit a parked vehicle, then reversed into another vehicle. The safety of my fiancee, myself and my dog were put at risk as we were jolted back and forth as this happened. The car has been inspected by my insurance company and the mechanic who had to do the repairs. No warning lamps or messages were present prior to the failure.

This vehicle has continual electronic issues. Aside from the 2 (as of now) recalls that are out on it- with no repair available- the functionality of this car is completely undependable. The computer screen (which controls almost every function of the car) often shuts off in the middle of operating (e.g. driving on a highway) and the only way to "fix" it is to shut the car off. Not ideal. Of course, this issue is intermittent so when i brought to VW they were unable to replicate.

I'm almost a year in a lease for this car. Made an appointment to take it in for the first service and then by word of mouth found out about the recalls, called to make sure they'd be able to fix the recalls and was told they would not be able to and so it was decided we'd wait to take it in for service when the fixes were available. That was on 9/6/2024. After searching my VIN with NHTSA - and only after that did I receive a recall notice and that is only for the door handles. I tried to contact VW per the instructions on the recall notice but contacting them via their website didn't work and the phone hold time was over an hour. I have experienced the software issue where everything goes blank including my speedometer and resets minutes later. We did go to a dealership and some of the conversation was that they can't sell the ID4 right now because of the recalls and the car is unsafe - Yet I am driving this car as my only mode of transportation.

Hello, our vehicle doors frequently unlock on their own and there have also been times while we are in the vehicle where we try to unlock the doors and they won’t unlock. I am worried about getting locked in the car, or having the doors open while driving. The windows also have automatically all rolled down with no one engaging with the vehicle. There is a concern for the safety of the belongings in the car. And I’m now generally worried about other electrical malfunctions. We have brought these issues to our VW dealer twice and they cannot reproduce them or fix them. There are no warning lights for these issues. I know there are new recalls for this vehicle, but VW has no estimated time as to when they will be ready. I feel very unsafe in this vehicle.

There has been no update regarding the open recalls on the ID4 from Volkswagen. The 919A/24V344 recall is over 5 months old with no update from Volkswagen and the 57J9/24V651 recall for the door handles has no update from Volkswagen at all.

All instrument panels and electric panels turn black. It is not replicable, it is not predictable, and there is no fix yet available. I have been in touch with VW and my dealer multiple times, and they do not have a fix. My dealer asked me to escalate the issue to the corporate side of VW and I did - they told me that I should take it into service. We got the service center on the line and they told them the same thing they told me: there is no fix available for this issue. As we go into winter, this has now become a CRITICAL safety issue. I cannot safely drive my vehicle, particularly in the snow or in the mountains, where I live. I am appalled at their lack of regard for this issue, and have requested to trade my vehicle in for the model that does not have the issue. They have informed me that is not an option. I am at a loss - I have a vehicle that I pay for that I cannot reliably drive. I have to drive my other leased vehicle so much that we are well over the mileage. This cannot continue like this.

Oct 24, 2024 Crash

My cars backup cameras have never worked properly and the dealer keeps changing me $485.00 to run a complete diagnostic every time I take it in. My car will erratically pulled to the right for no reason and caused the right front tire to blow forcing me to have it towed to the dealer and they had to replace both front tires which cost me $900.00 to replace. The car locked up the brakes and turned it to the right causing me to sever my left outer thumb which has cost me over $700.00 so far and is going to require me to have 4+ hours of surgery on my thumb by a surgeon and they haven't given me the cost of the surgery yet but it is estimated at over $7,000.00 and I am left handed and doesn't allow me to use that hand to hold the steering wheel or anything else.

The screens go black during driving and the gps flickers on and off creating a dangerous distraction. VW told me they do not have the technology yet to fix it, even though it is a huge hazard. in addition the car has a problem charging and holding the charge. The display of the miles is not accurate as to how much energy the car holds. In addition the contract said I had 3 years of free charging, but that has been taken away. so the car cannot charge well in addition to no free charging.

Electrical- my windows do not roll up, when using the window switches the windows will go down if they are already down a little. I will have a window half down and try to roll it up and it goes down. -I have also had several occurrences of my screens becoming in responsive or not even displaying. -My doors: my doors do not open on the initial attempt to exit or enter the vehicle and my passenger handle sometimes comes off of the body. Lighting- I get popups telling me that my headlight system has a failure. Seats- it’s very common for my seat to just start the massagers or to start heating

Collision warnings/automatic breaking has failed on vehicle multiple times. Presumably due to the software/hardware not being able to process. This has led to several incidents of near collision when in travel assist (self driving) and in general operation where it has actively backed into objects. Dealer did not have comments on incidents. Also raised infotainment resetting during driving from current campaign which is 6+ months old and they did not have an ETA on a resolution. Recommend pushing a forced buy back campaign as VW is unable to fix these dangerous issues.

Oct 8, 2024

The defective/incomplete vehicle software occasionally causes an dangerous condition. The child safety lock for the back doors can disengage without driver input or knowledge. The software in the vehicle occasionally clears (or resets) customized driver settings because the software is defective/incomplete. One of these "driver settings" appears to be the engagement of the child safety lock. When the vehicle user software occasionally resets, the child safety lock can disengage without obvious notification to the driver. My intention is for the child safety lock to be always engaged. The child safety lock control is a touch button located on the driver door, which illuminates when engaged, and goes dark when disengaged. My four-year-old child has opened the rear door next to the child car seat. Luckily this was while the vehicle was stopped and the child was secured into the car seat, so the child could not exit the door at that time. It was at that time I realized the child lock system was off, although I have previously had it on and had not commanded it to shut off. The safety risk in this situation should be obvious.

NHTSA Recall Number 24V344 This recall has been open with no resolution, time frame to resolution, or any communication whatsoever from VW of America for over 18 weeks now. Fortunately for me this issue has only affected my vehicle a few times (I'd estimate 5-10 instances) but the lack of followup and attention from VW is becoming very disconcerting. When we purchased this car in 2023 VW had materials advertising quarterly software updates for continuous improvement and new features. Their inability to provide a single update in ~20 months, including now when a critical fix is needed, feels like a bait and switch.

Sep 28, 2024

I am writing to complain that VW has not offered any assistance or solution to the electronic software failure noted in NHTSA Recall # 24V344. I have been experiencing software and electrical failures that affect the center and dashboard displays. I have no speedometer or rearview camera display, no warning systems, no cruise control, etc. Also, the car periodically locks itself and won't allow me to enter the car with the key fob, and I have to leave the window open to open the car manually. The lack of a dashboard display of speed is dangerous. I brought the car to VW dealer who reset the software and that fixed the problem for one month and then the problems returned. VW claims it is a software problem but has not offered any software updates or repairs since it was first published as a recall in May 2024. My car is too dangerous to drive when this software failure occurs--which sometimes happens while driving nd immediately affects the drivability and safe operation of the car. When it happens, nearly all the warning lights and messages start blinking and cycling while driving. We need help with putting pressure on VW to offer a solution and repair of this serious operational issue.

There is a recall on this vehicle and is very dangerous to drive. The screens go dark and we are unable to see how fast we are going. When this happens we also do not know if any of the safety features work. I have been told by the local VW dealer that as of right now there is no fix to this recall. I feel that VW should have better options for the consumer to be taken out of this vehicle. This is very dangerous and could really cause a lot of harm.

Display screen has blacked out on multiple occasions while driving. During these occurrences I have lost all visibility to vehicle speed, cruise control settings, backup camera, etc. When these issues occur, I am basically driving a vehicle with no feedback from these important safety systems. This is VERY dangerous and has caused me to almost get into an accident on two different occasions. Something needs to be done to address this issue ASAP as it is a serious risk to both the driver as well as other individuals that are out on the roadways. VW needs to resolve these issues immediately before someone is seriously injured or worse. Please help!

Both screens turn off while I’m driving 70+ mph on the highway therefore none of the features work like adaptive cruise or lane assist. It caused me to almost get into an accident a couple of times. Volkswagen says they won’t buy it back or fix it since it’s under the recall. I don’t know what to do. These cars are not safe for the road and are putting people’s lives at risk being driven.

The infotainment screens on the vehicle will randomly go blank, and when it reboots, will often freeze in the rebooting process. This prevents the driver and passengers from being able to see critical safety information on the center display and the driver's display, including the speedometer. Not being able to see the speedometer is a violation of Virginia code VA § 46.2-1080. Speedometer in good working order. so the vehicle is not able to be legally driven in Virginia according to the Virginia State Police and most other states with similar codes. The manufacturer, Volkswagen, is telling owners to continue driving the vehicle in violation of state law. The existing recall on this issue should be expanded to be a stop drive recall due to this safety defect.

While backing out of my driveway onto our residential street the car died without warning and all information displays went blank for a moment and then all the warning lights came on. The car would not change gears and my car was obstructing the roadway. My children were in the backseat of the car. I pressed the start stop button on the dash and the car "rebooted". warning lights were gone. I took the vehicle into the dealership a few days later for a scheduled repair to the steering wheel. I informed them of the incident and asked them to inspect. They ran a diagnostic and determined that they needed to replace a module in the vehicle's electrical system. Once the repair was complete we retrieved the car. Less than seven days after picking up the "repaired" vehicle my husband was backing out of our driveway and the same thing happened - only this time he was still in the driveway. Our driveway has a slight slope and the car was behaving as though it was in neutral (rolling down the drive) with no ability to change gears. Warning lights indicating electrical system failure were on the dash. He had to open his door and start to exit the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal in order to get the car to turn off. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership. They had the car for over 45 days trying to diagnose and duplicate the issue. We were told that there were no error codes and that they could not duplicate the problem. In the end we initiated a buyback request from VW and were denied with no explanation. I do not feel safe in this vehicle. It appears to have a major fault in its electrical system that is triggered by a yet to be determined set of circumstances. I frequently drive in and out of driveways on all sorts of roads and feel fortunate that this happened where it did. If this happened to me while I was backing out onto a more heavily trafficked roadway it could cause a life threatening accident.

Sep 9, 2024

On August 23, 2024, the car was parked at our home and turned off. It was not connected to the charger. At around 7:25pm Pacific time, I got into the driver's seat, closed the door, and depressed the brake pedal so I could put the car into Drive. While my foot was still on the brake, and the car was still in Park, the car lurched forward towards my husband, who was standing in front of the car. The car moved forward in a fast, jerking movement, less than 2 feet, before stopping on its own. My husband quickly moved to the other side of the alley way. Both console screens went black. I still never took my foot off the brake for fear that it would lurch forward again. I picked up my phone to film the screens to see if they would put up an error message or warning light. Just before I started filming the dashboard, the screen above the steering wheel came back on, but acted weird, with the gears disappearing from the right side of the screen completely around 12 second into the video. You can see in the video that I tried to put the car into gear, but as I move the gear shifter through the various gears it does nothing. My foot remained on the brake pedal the entire time up until the moment you see in the video, when I took my foot off of the brake and the car "restarted" itself, allowing me to get it into a gear again. My husband, or anyone else nearby, would have been severely injured if they had been standing closer to the vehicle when it lurched forward. I took the car to Santa Cruz Volkswagen to be inspected for this issue on 9/3/24. I provided them a detailed description and the video I took, but they were unable to duplicate it. Based on the many other issues I’ve had with this car prior, I believe a combination of faulty electronics, manufacturing defects, and buggy software may have caused this incident. (I uploaded a PDF of service records for this issue from dealer, but could not upload the video: it's 10.3mb MP4 file, which I'm happy to provide if possible.)

Sep 9, 2024

On occasion the car moves backward when I have it in Drive, and forward when I have it in Reverse. It commonly happens when doing a tight, 3 point turn. I noticed the issue shortly after I purchased the car in Mar '23 and first brought the car to the dealer for inspection after the 2nd time it happened in Jan '24. I've brought the car in many times for this and they cannot duplicate it or fix it (4 service records attached). There's no warning lights or error messages. I can visually see the gear shifter is in Drive, but when I put my foot on the accelerator the car moves backwards. It's the same when I visually see the gear shifter in Reverse, but the car moves forward. This has put my safety, the safety of my passengers, and the safety of people standing nearby at risk on multiple occasions. On one occasion, I was navigating a tight, multipoint u-turn, as I was trying to turn around between 2 large trees. My nephew stood outside the car waiting to get in. When I had enough clearance between the tree in back of me, and the back of my car, I put the car in Reverse to backup a few feet so that my nephew had enough space to open the passenger side door and get in. However, even though I had put the car in Reverse, it unexpectedly moved forward nearly pinning my nephew between the front of my car and the tree in front of me. I shouted at my nephew to step away from the car. I looked at the gear shifter again to ensure that I was in fact in Reverse, and then I tapped the accelerator gently to see if I could inch back away from the tree in front of me, but the car continued to move forward nearly hitting the tree. I had to put the car in Park, remove my seat belt, open the driver's side door, and step out of the car to get the car to "turn off" and "restart". When I got back in the car, and attempted to Reverse again, it worked as expected. I didn't log exact dates each time it happened, but I did first bring it to dealer for this problem on 1/4/24, with 8070 miles.

When driving the vehicle the center display and dashboard display go black and do not reboot and because of this am not able to see any vehicle information like speed and back up camera making the vehicle unsafe to drive and are a greater risk of causing an accident. This is an active recall but car manufacturer has failed to resolve issue in a timely manner. This issue was first reported in May 2024.

Aug 27, 2024

Our VW ID.4 was leased in December 2023. The vehicle unexpectedly went into "turtle"mode or limp mode, which according to VW happens when the battery is very low. Notably, we had 80% of battery charge at the time (which is the optimum charge). Unexpectedly, the yellow turtle display came on and, worse, the vehicle lost power while driving. The speed was greatly reduced, the power was also greatly reduced. The car went from regenerative breaking to loss of regenerative breaking, while the center drive display still showed "B" for regenerative breaking. It was also almost not possible to drive up a small hill. The vehicle displayed 2 error messages (we have photos, also of the 80% battery charge, which we attach): 1. "Vehicle performance is limited. See owner's manual." 2. "Electrical system not working correctly. Safely stop the vehicle." Comment: In our opinion, the vehicle is not safe to drive. The unexpected reduction in speed and loss of power, paired with the loss of regenerative breaking, creates very dangerous conditions. It may not be possible to "Safely stop the vehicle". In addition, we have also lost the center display and dashboard display twice now, which we believe is mentioned in NHTSA Recall Number24V344. VW sent us a letter in July informing us that our vehicle is subject to this recall. Yes, we have experienced the issue, twice. It is even more scary, if this happens when the vehicle loses power unexpectedly on an 80% charge. It is unacceptable that VW states in its recall letter "A recall repair is not available yet". VW is exposing drivers and passengers to significant risk. We are concerned that this vehicle is not safe to drive. We have brought it to the dealer on Monday 8-26-2024 and are awaiting diagnostics and repair.

On many occasions, I push the park button on the gear selector, and it does not go into park. I have become extremely deliberate on pressing the button AND making sure the screen illuminates that the vehicle is in park. On two occasions with myself driving and one occasion with my wife driving, the vehicle has moved forward unintentionally as a result.

There's two screens in the car. One displays speed and other functional items. The other one is the infotainment screen. In random occasions, BOTH screens go black for over a minute, meaning that the system reboots but it takes over a minute to start again, leaving the driver without any critical information while driving (speed, turn signals, warnings, etc).

Vehicle is under recall with no remedy. This is presenting a safety risk to me and my family.

Jul 31, 2024

My car popped up a messaging stating “Electrical system not working correctly. Please service vehicle.” I called in for service and the dealer told me that the message was not urgent as it was a yellow message and that they would not be able to get me in until Tuesday. I continued to drive the car and the message would come and go for two days. On the last day, I got the message and heard an electrical whirring noise when pressing the accelerator. Then the sound and message went away. Later that evening when charging, the fans were running extremely loud so I got the car out of my garage to avoid it catching fire. I called VW who said that I could drive it to the dealer. I left my house and the car popped up the message and then said it was disabling functions. It never said to pull over. Then a turtle popped up and my speed was dropped to 45 mph. I was on a highway at the time and turned around to head back home. Then it dropped my speed to 25. Right after doing that it came to a stop in the middle of the road. It never said to pull over or avoid driving it either but I was stranded in the road. A few minutes later all the messages disappeared and it started driving normally. I made it home and called for a tow truck.

Upon stoping the vehicle, unlatching the seatbelt and with the ignition off you need to pull the door handle 2 to 5 times before the door opens to allow you to exit. The vehicle never allows exiting on one pull. Dealer said no problem found and it’s operating normally but this is a daily occurrence.

On 7/4/2024 at approximately 6pm, I disconnected my 2023 VW ID4 from an electrical charging station. I moved my vehicle 2 blocks away to an apartment building parking lot, which I had parked in previously. While pulling into the parking spot, I was coming to a complete stop, perhaps going 1-2 miles per hour and as I came to a stop, the car accelerated out of nowhere and crashed into a few small trees and a chain link fence for the neighbor's home. I had a passenger in the front passenger seat and neither of us could understand what had just happened. It made no sense and I have no idea what happened to cause the acceleration.

This is an all electrical vehicle, When we first got it had a issue right away the car was stuck on reverse and we could not do anything, they kids where in the back and had to press the breaks to hold it in place and could not release it. We were in a parking lot, after awhile the system rebooted and it was normal. Brought it to the dealership and got it serviced and they said nothing was wrong with it. Second recent issue car powered down could not do anything while on the road lost all control. This is a huge issue if there was a car behind us going fast speed could be fatal! the power down issue has happened to us 3 times. Currently at the dealership to review but we have no confidence they will find a issue.

My 2023 ID.4 is riddled with electrical problems. MY ID.4 keeps stalling and is going tomorrow for a 3rd time to be looked at for this issue. My screens and speedometer blackout while driving frequently. 2 weeks ago I had every error on my instrument cluster screen (all systems were disabled including ABS, collision, etc), the car door locks were disabled, the radio screen was black, and speedometer itself was black. Here we are again and the car is stalling still, experiencing blackouts, and speedometer not visible. I feel extremely unsafe driving this vehicle. They should not be on the market. They are death traps.

While driving my vehicle it shifts into “park”, not sure if it is an electrical issue, transmission, or breaking issue. I have taken to the dealership for repairs they worked on the driver seat sensors, was at the dealership for 10 days. Three days after repairs the same issue occurred, took back to the dealership and they informed me that they could not recreate the issue(possible electrical issue), the service advisor suggested that I should not move around in the seat while driving to correct the issue. Again about three days later the same issue occurred again, this time in heavy traffic and it was difficult to get into “drive”, I have returned the car back to the dealership. At this time, I asked the service manager to take a ride with me, he seemed very surprised when the issue occurred with him in the drivers seat, he also had a hard time getting the car into drive. This seems like a big safety concern for a vehicle to rear end my car.

The horn stopped working without notice; only found out when I was in a near-miss accident and it did not honk. Never got alert or any other notice about horn not working. A car cut me off and I pushed the horn and no noise. I had the car towed to the VW dealership and they ended up replacing the horn because it did not work. I do not know when it stopped working.

The front seats go back and recline to an almost flat position randomly. This has hurt my kids' knees while they've been seating in the back seat. It is also very scary and they yell and scream in pain and panic. There is no pattern to the moving, it happens while stationary. Dealers have refused to look at it because they cannot replicate it at the time of the service call. I have pictures and videos of some instances but they are random. No warning or alerts pop up. This has been happening randomly since I bought the car one year ago.

May 9, 2024

The infotayment system goes completely dark while driving and reboots by itself after a few minutes. This has happened while I'm driving on the highway at 65MPH and on the roads at 40MPH, happens at any speeds. It happens randomly without a warning. Everything simply shuts down. I have videos of two different occasions that it happened. The dealership ran a diagnostic and said nothing came up. It happened again and same thing - diagnostic and nothing comes up. It happened again, I called VW NA and sent videos but they said it has been resolved. It happened again. Not sure what to do next.

VW/Audi have known this is an issue for years but do not seem to prioritize a fix. The front passenger window often goes down first when trying to close it. I am pleading with the NHTSA to view this is a safety concern and issue a recall to force the manufacturer into what should be a simple software fix. If I deem someone approaching my open passenger window and I attempt to close my window only for it to open more, that welcomes a lot of potentially unsafe situations. Here are two examples. The individual could take something off the passenger seat and get away before the driver has a chance to react safely. Or worse, they could possibly open the door if they view this as an invitation to get in. Every other car manufacturer has power windows that work correctly. This isn't hard and is laziness by VW Auto Group to fix it until their hand is forced, especially given that the other 3 windows work just fine.

I was driving down a highway traveling 59 mph around 5:20AM when my infotainment system and lights inside all went dark. The speedometer stayed lit up but changed to an alternate color while I was traveling. I slowed down to make sure I could brake and that all was working. Within about 20-30 seconds the whole system restarted and came back online. This was not necessarily a safety hazard, however the sheer shock of it made cause for my safety because I reacted to it in a somewhat panic sort of way by braking rapidly. I found this forum where others have reported the exact same thing. There were no warning lamps messages or any notice of the occurrence. It all started back up as if nothing happened. 2023 VW ID.4 - While driving the passenger door latch started making a clicking noise and door became ajar triggering a door ajar light on dash information center. Passenger held door from completely opening until it was safe to pull over. Door latch continued to make clicking noises and continued to open itself. A google search revealed recall campaign "Door handle recall 57J5 [NHTSA 23V312] for MY21 and MY22" It was raining out when this happened. Volkswagen clearly hasn't fixed this issue for MY23.

Apr 8, 2024

I submitted a previous report regarding my passenger front door attempting to open while the vehicle was in motion. Yesterday the door fully opened under motion with my wife as a passenger. It sounds like the latch kept cycling until the door opened. My wife just prior to departure decided to start video recording while driving as we both believed the dealer may not be able to replicate the incidents. We have recording of this we can email. The door does attempt to open several times on some days, some days it doesn't. My vehicle according to the dealer is not a part of the affected vin's for the recall. It has not been back to the dealer for evaluation and repair yet. This has become an extremely dangerous situation as an owner or passenger.

Center console spontaneously shuts down while driving. After about 3 min, the system reboots, but temporarily the driver console also disappears and the speedometer cannot be seen. A warning that lane assist is not available is shown. The backup rear view cannot be used during the downtime. In this car, this happened three times over a 4 month period with about 2000 total miles driven. In a previous instance in a different ID4, braking was also impacted and additional error messages appeared temporarily.

Feb 15, 2024

The driver door malfunctions and will open itself. It has happened twice now while driving at low speeds. It also happens while my car is parked. It will not lock at all, and it seems to think someone is trying to open it. My car will be parked with the door closed, I try to lock it, but it won't lock, and I'll come back later and the door will be ajar. Or I will be driving and the car will keep making sounds like it's trying to lock/unlike, the. Suddenly the door will pop open. This started about 3 weeks ago.

I brought my vehicle because of an electrical problem I lost power and my dash light came on saying electrical system malfunction, My dealership just informed me about some cables been chewed up by a mouse it’s what they claim. It’s the battery cables insulation in the bottom front part of the vehicle, after reading about the recall in the battery cables insulation wearing out from 2022 models you can clearly see that it’s the same problem in the same spot and in the same rear wheel drive model. They don’t want to take responsibility because there is no recall for my year yet, so they want me to pay $3000 out of pocket to fix it and I don’t even have a month that I bought this vehicle.

Driver car door intermittently pops open, while driving, when stopped, and when parked (not occupied). Car door locks intermittently stop working, meaning passengers cannot enter from outside, cannot open door from inside, doors do not unlock when key fob approaches. Also when this is happening, charge port shorts ie. disconnects/connects. When these issues are happening, defogger runs intermittently when parked, unless I enter car to manually turn off heating system. Turning off defogger with app does not stop defogging even when it says "off" in app. Seems tons of water is down in door... If the car is dry, if I roll the windows down then up, windows are COVERED with water. At times, front windows go down when trying to roll them up. Not safety, but internal ambient lighting system has two colors, one for dash, one for door lights. Door light color selection does not work, and doors only will show color of dash color selection.

5264 miles – Red warnings come on after charging vehicle. Pulled over and turned vehicle off. Took vehicle to AutoNation VW. By the time I arrived at dealership the red triangle and warning were no longer on the screen. Jeffrey Lopez had me sit in the waiting area. Tech scanned the vehicle but claimed they were unable to duplicate the concern. Nothing was documented; I was given no paperwork and was sent on my way.

9942 miles – Error: 12V power supply. Safely Park the vehicle! See owner’s manual. Pulled over a turned vehicle off. Took vehicle to AutoNation VW. By the time I arrived at the dealership the error was no longer on the screen. Jeffrey Lopez had said it would be checked as part of the 10,000-mile service (which according to Jeffrey included oil change.) I showed Jeff pictures of the error message. Tech performed the 10000-mile service, scanned the vehicle but claimed they were unable to duplicate concern. Nothing was documented regarding the electrical issue, only that I was there for a 10,0000 service synthetic oil. Inspection paperwork all claimed that the vehicle was in good condition. Upon leaving the dealership there was a thud and loss of power but then the power immediately came back.

20122 miles 7/31/2023 – Infotainment screen would reboot at random. I was also receiving the 12V battery message still and the electrical system error Dropped vehicle off at AutoNation VW for the 20000-mile service. Mark Daddario said that sometimes it’s how the customer drives the EV’s that makes the errors come up but couldn’t tell me anyway I was driving it incorrectly. I left the vehicle asking them to perform the maintenance, perform the door handle recall, and replace the flat tire under my VW Care tire protection plan. I left the vehicle with them for several days while I was out of town. Upon picking up the vehicle Chris Guilkey told me everything was performed, but the system was down so they couldn’t give me any paperwork. He handed me the key and pointed to my vehicle which was returned to me with 17% charge. Shortly after leaving the dealership the vehicle performed a thud and shut down. After waiting a few minutes, it restarted again. I drove back to the dealership and Chris didn’t see any errors on the screen so told me everything should be fine.

29987 miles 11/3/2023 – I brought my vehicle to Findlay VW Henderson NV for the 30,000-mile service, the 12V electrical issue, and the door handle recall. Andrew Lammers, the service consultant told me they’d check everything out while my vehicle was in the shop and before releasing it back to me. I received a call about a week later that there were parts hold. On 11/17 I was advised my vehicle was ready. I was told the 12V battery, high voltage system, and electrical were tested and were okay. 4-wheel alignment, front assist, and lane assist systems were also recalibrated. I was assured I shouldn’t have any electrical issues any longer. I picked my vehicle up 11/18, one day after I was notified it was finished.

Jan 7, 2024

30722 miles 12/12/23 – Vehicle continued to give the parking sensors error even after ensuring they were cleaned. The error will go away intermittently and then come back. Also got an error about parking assist not working. These errors never occurred before the 30000-mile service. Vehicle started giving electrical system errors and 12v battery errors again and had to be towed to Findlay Volkswagen St. George. The vehicle was in the shop 24 days, and I only received one email response from Pam Mahony-Coufal that the tech was still working with VW on the issue, and she would let me know when they were done. Texts and emails to check the status were met with no response. When I asked about a loaner, vehicle service manager Bryan said there were none available, and if there were one, it can’t be taken out of state. That poses a challenge for me since I live in Nevada and the dealership is in Utah. The dealership stated they found melted relays and replaced them. The vehicle was road tested 8 miles and returned to me 1/5/24.

30848 miles 1/5/24 – Drove to Cedar City UT for an appointment after picking the vehicle up. The elevation is 5846 feet and the weather was about 20f. While going uphill on the interstate I started to receive messages about the headlights not working. Electrical system not working correctly error message came back. The left headlight was going on and off on its own and an error "fault vehicle lighting". "Please check left front turn signal." "Error dynamic cornering light." Heat can be turned on hi but doesn't warm the vehicle up. Heated seats don't seem to be working even when on 3. There is also a burnt electrical smell entering the vehicle. Vehicle was parked outside Findlay VW St. George service and won’t be checked in until 1/8 as they are closed on the weekend.

The vehicle does not get 275 range fully charged as window sticker states. New vehicle with 600 miles on it only gets 242 range when fully charged. The vehicle is over stated to boost sales. You cannot lock the vehicle in any way, shape, or form unless you have the key fob. if you forget to lock your car, you cannot ask someone to lock it for you without a key. The car cannot be locked from interior door like a traditional door. Huge safety issue. To make it worse, the vehicle cannot be locked from the App like Volkswagen advertised. Scam all around.

ID4 intermittently giving me errors to have electric system checked. And when the error comes on it will reduce performance so I can only go about 10-20mph. Sometimes if you turn the vehicle off for like 30 minutes then error will clear but then come up again another time when starting the vehicle. Which is dangerous to just have it reduce performance on you at random.

While backing up in a driveway at approximately 3-4 miles per hour, the vehicle lost all power and stalled. Both screens went completely black. Seconds later (10-15 maybe) the system re-initialized as if it was rebooted. If this happened at higher speed, it might result in accidents.

Infotainment and dashboard are blanking out while driving. system appears to be rebooting. lose entire display, and radio. Has happened multiple times, twice in one day even. when I reported to the dealership they said it was a reboot, but did not offer a way to fix the issue. concerning because I rely on the system for driving directions at times and this is disabled for a few minutes at least each time it happens, and does not always restart correctly.

Oct 29, 2023

While driving the radio stopped playing then the infotainment center went black (turned off) and the instrument display, including the speedometer and ADAS, turned off. The vehicle kept driving but no speed information was available which is a safety risk to myself and others. After about 30 seconds the infotainment and display cluster restarted and returned to normal operation. If relevant, Android Auto was also being used and lost connection during this time. For my individual vehicle, this problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer nor has it been inspected. There was no warning message or alert before this issue happened.

A few minutes after charging at an Electrify America location (JFK cell phone lot) I had to step out of the vehicle. Suddenly all sensors stopped working, I was locked out, key fob doesn't work, manual key didn't work either, truck locked out. Car would not connect to the app. I smell something burning but lightened after a few minutes. After 20 minutes of struggle, miraculously I got one door open and drove home. Speedometer stopped working on the way back and I cannot get the car to stop, ac would not turn off either on its own. I am trying to get a service appointment as soon as I can with my dealership.

While driving my ID.4 couple of months back, it hit something.on the road. Taken to the body shop, I was given the bill of $27K to replace the battery. Looking at the damage, the battery housing was damaged and it could not be replaced without replacing the entire battery. Battery housing being such an important & sensitive part of the vehicle should be protected better. Currently, the shield underneath does not protected the entire battery housing. My insurance company was on the verge to Total my car which would have been an huge loss for me. I had to escalate it to get it repaired which is in process. Just want to report this as I got lucky not to run into an accident/fire due to battery housing being exposed. Hope, some action is taken to prevent any accident future and also to avoid such expensive repair (which can be avoided easily).

This is a new vehicle used for less than 2 weeks. It has under 250 miles on it. The vehicle looses power and displays the following warning messages: “Error: Drive System. Please safely stop vehicle!” and “Electrical System not working correctly. Please service your vehicle” I was in a very unsafe situation without power but luckily was able to guide the car over to the side of the road with the momentum it had. The vehicle has been at the dealer since that event which has been 6 days now. Still no word on if / when it will be fixed.

I was driving down the interstate and the entirety of the electronic screens froze up. The data presented on the screens was frozen and all the touch buttons froze. With no access to any controls, in a downpour, I was unable to adjust the climate control, turn on the defrosters or have any idea how fast I was going. I proceeded to stop on the interstate, thinking I could shut the car off and restart it to reset the controls, but that did nothing except get me soaked and risk my life being stopped on the side of the highway. This car has a seat activated power on and off so it comes on when you sit down and shuts off when you get up (which is a stupid idea anyway) but upon exiting the car and even locking it with the FOB, the vehicle would not shut off or reset. Soaked, I got back in and continued down the highway with no defrosters or climate control and arrived at my meeting. I was unable to shut the car off so it ran through my lunch then I made the same journey back home, 100+ miles down the interstate with no speedometer, climate control or defrosters. Once I arrived home, I disconnected the battery which did reset the system and displays. I suppose I better carry tools with me to be able to disconnect the battery on the interstate, next time. This is disgusting to me, that VW would not provide some kind of reset option in a very dangerous situation like this. During my event, I called both their “roadside assistance” and customer service, WITH NO BLUE TOOTH, and neither of them were able to help me in any way, except tell me to pull over and have it towed.

I have never been in an accident in my entire life, never got pulled over by a cop, and have only ever driven one car prior to the vw. I always have my car in “B” mode. During the crash on 4/02 I was going about 40 to 35 mph coming off the highway tried to slow down more to 25 to go on the roundabout but it wouldn’t, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting the sign and curb and going over the cement median which cause both my left tires to go flat. I got a call from the Volkswagen SOS and at that time the person was talking to me, I had to maneuver my car off the cement median to move it to a safer road as I was in the middle of a dangerous place and it needed to be towed. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. I have only driven this car 703 miles.

1. FRONT COLLISION WARNING SENSOR DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WORKING. THE FRONT SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT ANYTHING IN THE FRONT WHILE IN DRIVING MODE. COULD BE A SOFTWARE OR SENSOR ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT. 2. WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, USUALLY ON THE STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES OFF OR GOES TO THE PARK MODE. IN ORDER TO SWITCH ON THE VEHICLE, I NEED TO STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE, LOCK THE DOORS, THEN UNLOCK THE DOORS, THEN I CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE. TO DRIVE. LOOKS LIKE THERE MUST BE A SOFTWARE ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR THE SAFETY AND CONVINCE.

Jun 27, 2023 Crash

On April 22nd the car was in an accident when it struck the rear of another car at a red traffic light. I had stopped at the light with car in “B” drive mode and the brake on Auto Hold. I was stopped at the light roughly 2 minutes with my right foot on neither pedal. The car was in Auto Hold brake mode as I recollect the Auto Hold indicator being illuminated. The car remained stationary during that period until it moved forward without any action from myself. I am convinced I did not hit the gas pedal. There was damage to both my car and the car in front. There had been no change of the traffic light light nor had the car in front moved when this occurred. I had not experienced this issue in my limited driving before the accident (1700 miles) or subsequent to the accident. I contacted the Volkswagen dealer following the accident and dropped the car off for them to investigate. They advised me to open a case with Volkswagen of America to get their involvement which I immediately did. Volkswagen CARE assigned a regional case manager. The dealer service department performed a 3 mile test drive and could not reproduce the problem. Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident relying on the dealer service department to use the on-board diagnostics to read fault codes. They found two fault codes that required the replacement of the ICAS1 module (the vehicles primary computer) and the driver door handle – the latter was not related to the current recall on the vehicle. These were manufacturing defects and they stated were not the cause of the accident. I find it concerning that Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident for product issues nor did they explain (when asked) why a faulty major component that controls the operation of the car could not be the cause of the accident.

Jun 27, 2023 Fire

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID. 4. The contact stated while the vehicle was charging at a Volkswagen charger center, the charging port that attach to the vehicle caught on fire causing the vehicle to burn. No one was injured. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 2,494.

The actuator on the charging port cover broke. I tired to get it fixed under warranty, but it has been two months and the part is still backordered from Germany. The charging port will not stay closed, so when it rains, water is getting into the charging connection and it is discolored, cannot tell if it is rust. I am concerned about plugging the high voltage plug in to the wet connector. I try to dry it, but it still seems wet.

I was pulling into a parking structure when the left side of the vehicle (door handles, windows, sensors) lost power. I was able to park the vehicle and then have it towed to the dealership. Although it happened at very low speed, my safety was at risk. It would have been very dangerous if this had happened on the freeway. I was unable to open the door or to close the driver window. The dealer found a blown fuse. They have not been able to identify a cause of what would cause a fuse to blow like this. They continue to work on it (we are on day 3 now) including working with VW of America engineering. The two recalls on this vehicle have been address (approx 10 days ago). I have had numerous other problems with this vehicle that I don't believe are related to this particular incident apart from the recall related to the door handles.

Instrument panel to turned black, thus blocking access to essential information, such as current speed of the vehicle, the status of cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, and parking collision warning. The problem happened couple of times. Also, the Carplay feature freezes and is interrupted a lot.

May 16, 2023

I was passing on a highway ant high speed and the car shut down. It gave me about twenty seconds to coast to a stop on the shoulder before it completely turned off. This happened twice.

May 11, 2023

The driver door is randomly popping open, at low speeds and high speeds. At low speeds, when trying to back out of driveway or pull into driveway or slowly pull up to red lights or keep up with cars in a left turning lane waiting my turn to turn, the door will randomly pop open and the car slams into park and turns off of Drive. I then have to shut the door, put the car into drive again and try to pull forward without the doors popping open again. This cycles at times where I have to repeat. The car does not go into park when doors pop open at high speeds, speeds greater than 12 ish mph. However, the door will randomly pop open at high speed. I was going 51 mph on the highway and the door popped open. I documented that with a picture. I reached out to several VW dealer garages. They said that they could not do anything for me because there currently was no fix for the recall. I have an appointment call with VW America today at 2pm today. I filled out online surveys with VW to tell them how unsafe this feels driving the car and this happening. We drive the car ONLY when necessary between my spouse and I bc of how unsafe the situation is. I'm not sure what to do or what i can do. I'm stuck with a brand-new car with only 3000 miles that had doors that randomly pop open while the car is in motion. Please advise. Thank you.

On Friday, April 7, 2023 after driving the car locally it displayed a "electrical system not working properly" error message. Were able to drive the vehicle home, though power and acceleration were reduced. Contacted the local dealership and took the vehicle in to them on Saturday, April 8, 2023. As of April 26th they have provided no status updates on what caused the error, how to resolve the issue, or a timeline of a repair.

Apr 21, 2023

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated while driving and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that a message to “Disconnect the Charging Cable” was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle also independently shifted to park(P). The contact attempted to shift into drive(D) however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the dealer stated the E-brake motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on occasion while placing items into the trunk of the vehicle, the contact noticed water on the rear passenger’s side in the charging compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated that the passenger’s side rear trunk strut needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again and the dealer sealed a hole on the rear passenger’s side roof rack. The manufacturer was contacted but the manufacturer provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 1,000.

It seems the computer is not calculating correctly the vehicle performance. After charging the vehicle to 90% (73.8KW) of the 82KW only delivers a portion of what the computer states. at 90% delivers 210 mile; however , the onboard computer states that the performance is 3.2Miles/KW, which should translate to a performance of 236.16 miles (73.8 KW X 3.2Miles /KW = 236 miles Is the data being altered by the vehicle's computer?

Mar 22, 2023 Fire

On 10 March 2033, our Volkswagen ID.4 caught on fire while charging on a DC fast charger. We charged on a 150kW charger (which was only giving us 20kWh) for 30 mins. We then moved the car to a 350kW charger where someone else was charging (same location) when we first arrived at the station. The fire started shortly after the car began charging at the second charger; the flames were shooting approximately one foot high, out of the charging port. Luckily, my husband was right there and thought/acted quickly; he stopped the charge via the EA touchscreen and removed the charging cable when the fire stopped and it was safe to do so. The lower portion of the (fast-charging) port is now damaged/burned, and a portion of it no longer exists. We attempted several times to contact Electrify America via the number listed on the charging station, but their phone number auto-hung up after certain dial prompts... So we called 911. The police and the fire department arrived soon after we called, and attempted to shut the charging station off. The fire department then (unsuccessfully) attempted to call Electrify America because they were unable to locate emergency disconnects for the charging stations. My husband was eventually able to contact Electrify America, and informed them of the situation. The police placed caution tape over the charger, and told us to head out. Q1: We don't know; VW is doing an investigation to figure this out. Q2:Our car was lit on fire. Q3: I don't know. It's in the process of being investigated, but as far as we've seen online, this is not the first vehicle to start on fire at an Electrify America charging station. Q4: The police and fire department were called to the scene. The fire department has an investigation open on this incident. The VW dealership currently has our vehicle, and told us they were going to be inspecting it as part of their investigation. Q5: No

On Saturday, February 4, 2023. At approximately 7am. I entered the vehicle to warm the car. (It was a cold day). I tried to exit the vehicle, but I could not exit the driver's side door. It was not opening. I tried many times via the door handle and the key fob. Neither worked. I then tried the passenger side door and that would not work as well. I tried each door several times. It looked like the car's electrical or software system was not communicating my needs to the vehicle. I finally was able to roll down the driver's side window and opened the dirver's side door via grabbing the door handle from the outside. Not too sure why neither door would open to let me exit the vehicle. It was pretty scary, thinking I would not be able to exit. Not too sure what happened, but hopefully it does not happen again. So far, it has not.

The driver side door unlocks and opens itself while I am driving the vehicle. In addition, while I am driving, the door opening or locking mechanism (I am unsure which) can be heard moving although this does not always lead to the door opening itself.

The driving and center console screens were blank at vehicle start. Vehicle went into gear properly and moved without error, however, not having a 'speedometer' at this point, I chose not to drive the car until I was able to determine the best way to restore operation to the two 'screens'. Reading through several 'blogs' on this vehicle, I was able to determine how to 'reboot' the screens and restore proper operation to the 'speedometer' This vehicle is a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, all wheel drive Pro-S model with 2814 miles on it. The date was March 16th, 2023, 7:00 AM, clear skies, 62 degrees. This is a battery electric vehicle.

Mar 12, 2023

The car shut down while driving. Many system warnings appeared sequentially stating that they were no longer functioning. The first to appear and remain as a warning light is the electrical system malfunction. It is currently orange, however, it turned red at one point. My car was unable to go into drive, nor reverse. I had my car serviced just over a month ago for a similar issue - power stopped being delivered to the wheels.

Error: Surround View which is the full 360 view camera system that is new with the 2023 Plus model didn't work the day I picked up the car. Brought it back in and they changed all the cameras and it only worked for 1 day. brought the car back in and now they say the control unit has failed and currently there is no eta on the part. Car has under 300 miles and i don't have the car in my possession.

Second day after purchasing the new car, WHILE DRIVING the front passenger door just swung open. I thought it was not closed properly, but it kept happening again! I took it to the dealer and was informed that they are seeing multiple cars with the same issue. It is a huge safety issue and it seems that these electronic door handles cannot handle cold and keep malfunctioning. The car is at the dealer right now and VW does not have the parts to fix it or is afraid to address the issue. It's a new car, I drove it for a few days and it has been sitting at the dealer for TWO MONTHS without any resolution in sight! Please address the safety issue and ask VW to ensure it does not happen to others. On Facebook group, multiple people are affected. My dealer, Romeo of Kingston NY has multiple cars with electronic door handle issues.

Brand new ID4 2023 with 800 miles goes into park and refuses to drive because this error message pops up, "unable to start please remove charging socket" the charger is not plugged in and I was just driving on the highway when this message first appeared. Then I come to a stop and that's when the car goes into park and refuses to drive in the middle of a busy 4 way intersection.

Feb 17, 2023

Upon entering the vehicle it is displayed that there is a 12V error and that the electrical system is malfunctioning. The vehicle cannot be put into gear. Exiting the vehicle and reentering the vehicle clears the error most of the time, making it seem like this error is false. One time though this error lasted for more than 30 minutes than went away. I drove the vehicle to the dealer and they confirmed the problem exists and do not know what is causing it. If this is a real error with the electrical drive train than exiting the vehicle should not clear it.

Feb 9, 2023

The car spontaneously came to a stop in the middle of the road and would not start again. The displayed showed plenty of battery charge/miles of range left, meaning the issue was not a dead battery. There were several error messages, notably one indicating that the car could not be put into drive because it was still connected to a charging cable. Being that the car was in the middle of the road, the car was not connected to a charger. I was unable to put the car into neutral in order to move it to the side of the road and out from the middle of traffic because the car kept indicating that it could not move with a charging cable still attached. The safety of myself and others was put at risk because my car spontaneously stopped in the middle of the road with no warning. My safety was further put at risk because the issue prevented me from putting the car into neutral in order to move it to safety.

Feb 2, 2023

I am having the (seemingly common) problem of a malfunctioning driver's door handle/latch. The safety issues are: A) the door will sometimes pop itself open while driving - it happened to me while making a right turn and I had to grab the open door with my hand; B) on one occasion I was unable to open the driver door from inside the vehicle, and had to climb out the passenger side; C) I also consider it a safety issue that I cannot lock the car to protect who/what is inside. The car starting having this issue around 1,000 miles, and is currently at the dealer waiting for a backordered part. I wanted to report this because, anecdotally, there are many others with the issue who are also waiting for a fix, and I don't think VWoA has the organizational ability to fix them voluntarily, nor enough qualified EV technicians.

I parked my car and pressed the park button which has a nice re-assuring click. However after I let go of the brake, the car started moving. I slammed the brake and checked the screen. Sure enough, the car was not in park. That park button is not very reliable. My car: 2023 AWD Pro S

Jan 25, 2023

At about 11 PM on January 24 I sent a remote command to my vehicle to heat the cabin through the myVW app. The app reported a success like it has many times. When I opened it and sat in the driver’s seat, the two information displays neither displayed anything nor lit up at all. The car appeared to have heated up as expected and was otherwise operational, i.e. I was able to put it in gear, move, and steer as expected. This was tested at low speed and for a short distance since one of the inoperative digital displays, the ID.Cockpit, also provides critical information for driving. This includes the speedometer, remaining range, and the other various functions normally present in the instrument panel. The issue was not resolved by me briefly leaving the vehicle (a tip suggested by many on forums online dedicated to the vehicle), but was after I forced the entertainment system to restart by holding down on the capacitive power button below the main infotainment screen. This was another suggestion I had often seen online. While the fix is simple, the problem is enormous. A less experienced user who hadn’t spent hours trawling forums about their car would likely not have known the solution. They would face a decision: abandoning whatever present need they had for the vehicle, or be forced to drive without information like speed and remaining range if driving could not be avoided. P.S. Please let me upload a video on this form. I had to take screenshots of the video I took. Two screenshots show the vehicle in D/drive with the screens blank. The not-screenshots show the infotainment in two states: not working after I briefly left and re-entered the vehicle, and rebooting after I pressed and held the power keys. The previews on here show that they’re upside down… if so, I don’t know why.

The electric controlled drivers side door unlatched and opened when I was driving on the highway at 70 MPH. I had my seatbelt on. I had to pullover at the next exit to close the door. Not a good situation. The door was completely closed and locked when I was driving. The door should not of just unlatched and opened.

VW ID4 2023 Day two owning ID4, driver's door would not open. I was at the dealership at the time and I was told to make an appointment to fix it. I was also told, it was a thing happening with some new VW ID4 2023. Some sort of short circuit. I went home, did some research, I learned about the recall. I questioned a person on the phone (from dealership) about the notice. They did not answer whether it was safe to drive. On the way to the dealership to fix the door issue, I was involved in a crash. Leaving a red light a car stopped short to avoid a dog. I saw it, hit the brakes all the way down to the floor. ID4 decelerated but did not stop and I braced for impact. I rammed into the car in front of me. I left car at the dealership, I have yet to hear back if it was vehicle malfunction. Timeline: Jan 3: New Car purchased Jan 5: Driver's door would not open from outside. I was told to make an appointment due to limited technicians. I was on site at VW at the time Jan 6: I sent over a text to sales team with a screenshot showing me the recall. No reply from VW Jan 16: On my way to VW for recall, i was involved in a crash.

The window on the ID.4 failed to operate as directed. When pulling the lever up to close the window, the window will open rather than close. The vehicle's window lever has two positions, first position controls the window and will cause it to go up/down. Second extended position is one-touch open/close and will open/close the window all the way. Using the first position control with the window 1/2 way open, pulling the lever up using the first position control will result in the window going down. This has put the safety of my child at risk as we had a large animal charging towards the vehicle and when i went to close the window, instead of closing, it opened the window fully. The issue was brought to attention of dealer and replicated in their presence. However, they blamed that because the operation did not generate an error code in the car's computer, there was nothing they can do according to their SOP. There are no error or warning messages relating to this operation but it can be replicated and video of error exists.

Jan 3, 2023

On December 29, 2022, I took delivery of a brand new 2023 ID.4 Pro S AWD with 20 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was showing a 12V battery warning the following day. I drove it for about 80 miles that day to ensure that the 12V battery is charged in case it was not properly looked after during transport and at the dealer. The next day, the vehicle was inoperable and immobilized. The 12V battery has failed and the accessory voltage dropped to 8V. Power steering stopped working, headlights were not working and it was not possible to put the vehicle in neutral. I called a tow truck via the Volkswagen roadside assistance. In preparation for the tow the operator attempted to boost the 12V battery from a portable jump starter. This was necessary to put the vehicle in neutral so that it can be moved. While doing that the vehicle became fully operable again and the operator encouraged me to drive the vehicle myself instead of getting it towed. I agreed and drove it to my garage where I put the 12V battery on a tender / battery charger. The following day the vehicle was again completely inoperable and it was now blocking my garage where is was difficult to access. I continued to charge the 12V battery for another full day. Now the vehicle turns on again and can be driven. However, there is a plethora of warnings including one that states that 12V battery supply is limited and the vehicle needs to be driven with care. I scheduled an appointment with a Volkswagen dealer for the following day. In summary, I took delivery of a brand new vehicle that almost immediately became inoperable. Given that it's very difficult to impossible to get the vehicle on a tow truck without the 12V accessory voltage powering its electronics the manufacturer should have taken precautions so that the battery cannot fail in such rapid and unpredictable fashion. There needs to be a way to put the vehicle in neutral in emergency situations such as this one.
