Continuously receiving error message to have front sensors cleaned. Vehicle brought into dealership several times, for weeks at a time. On last visit sensors replaced, and I was told that “ The front sensors have a level of damage caused by sand, salt and other road debris. This has resulted in some scratches which are triggering the sensors and giving you the warnings that you are referring to.” Given this, the front sensor issues are a manufacturing flaw. I asked this if the dealer and, given the stated cause of sand, salt and road debris the likely frequency. With no answer.

On October 04/2025 The vehicle was parked and stationary when it suddenly accelerated forward on its own. The brakes were completely unresponsive. I had a passenger in the front seat, and both she and I are certain that I was pressing the brake, but the car did not slow down at all. Within a few seconds, the vehicle gained speed, and I lost control. There was no space to maneuver, and I could do nothing but brace myself against the seat and watch my rear passengers. The vehicle continued forward and crashed into a tree directly in front, causing damage to the right side of the bumper, and a large rock in front also received the impact. The airbags did not deploy. The two rear passengers struck their heads during the impact and sustained bumps, and my dog was also affected in the collision. This accident occurred despite the car having a recent annual inspection and software update. The sudden acceleration is not the only issue I have experienced with this vehicle. I have had additional safety concerns. The doors would lock, unlock and open by themselves while driving on the freeway. On May 2024, my dog was trapped inside when the doors locked automatically with my keys inside the car. I had to ask a police official in my neighborhood for a phone to call roadside assistance, and it took several hours to get my dog out of the vehicle.

A message stating forward collision assist is unavailable. The adaptive cruise control does not see the vehicle in front of you. The vehicle randomly emergency brakes. And a four Mile drive it would emergency brake three times. Dealer stated it was fixed. I return to the vehicle an hour later stating the problem persists and it is not fixed or safe to drive. I have a text from the dealer confirming the problem persists they have unable to diagnose or repair. The car is in their possession since June 7th 2025

The cruise control failed to slow down , instead it accelerated . My safety and the safety of my families was put at risk due to a sudden stop in I25 southbound cause us to slow down and when I pushed the down arrows to slow us down and pushed the brake pedal we didn’t slow down, instead we were jolted forward in accelerating speeds. Thankfully we missed the car in front of us due to us me swerving into the shoulder to assure no collision. The problem has happened on 4 different occasions. Volkswagen is aware of the issue and we have not received any kind of update or remedy for the defect. No one has inspected it , we were to have an appointment this Monday Sept 9th to have it all checked out. The gps , sos button , road side assistance and speedometer aren’t functioning properly in our car as well. No warnings lights were on and no notifications of any problems.

It is very easy to inadvertently touch the "SET" button for the cruise control. The button is capacitive so a very light touch activates the button, and it is on the outer edge of steering wheel spoke, meaning a light brush while turning the wheel activate the button. When maneuvering at slow speeds (such as in a parking lot) this results in the car accelerating, uncommanded, and without warning, up to the minimum speed of the cruise control.

Aug 5, 2025

Cruise control / resume cruise can inadvertently be activated due to the haptic touch pads on the steering wheel. On multiple occasions when exiting a highway after using cruise control and while turning the steering wheel, my hand inadvertently brushes against the RESUME haptic touch pad, causing the vehicle to immediately speed up to my last preset cruise speed. This is a constant issue as I use my vehicle daily for work purposes, and has caused multiple near-accidents. Per my dealer, Volkswagen does not have a fix for this. This is a non-issue in my other VW vehicle, as it has button instead of haptic touch on the steering wheel. Haptic touch should not be on a steering wheel.

Jul 3, 2025

When driving at low speed in a parking log, vehicle began to accelerate suddenly. Driver was able to brake to avoid collision. Seemed to be due toaccidental touch of capacitive touch RES button on left side of steering wheel, which resumed previous ACC speed. ACC had not been use for several days prior, but system remembered previous high speed and tried to resume.

Automatic parking assist and reverse braking systems exhibit severe, recurring malfunctions causing collisions and injuries. On May 24, 2025, at approx. 4:10 PM, auto-park uncommanded the vehicle to strike a mailbox in a familiar spot. Dealer dismissed incident without diagnostics. Beyond this collision, the vehicle exhibits frequent, violent, unintended braking during reverse. This occurs when: Turning body to look back: System abruptly locks brakes, causing whiplash-like neck pain to me. Dealer stated this was "normal" for "driver seating" despite explanation. Encountering minor obstacles: System misidentifies leaves/garbage bins as threats, engaging full, hard braking. This causes extreme distress and has violently thrown passengers forward. My teenager son sustained a visible bruise for one week after hitting the console during one such incident March 2024 These system malfunctions create high risk of injury to occupants and pedestrians. The unpredictable braking events are a fundamental flaw. These issues were reported to the dealer within weeks of purchase and to VW Group of America Customer Care (800-822-8987) after the mailbox incident. They remain unresolved."

I was driving off the freeway in my ID4 and had been driving with both B mode (Regenerative braking) and the cruise control on. I then proceeded to drive approx 4 miles, still in B mode. I pulled into a parking space at my local swim club, and as I pulled into the space I took my foot off the accelerator, and began to slow down. As I was about to break to bring the car to a complete standstill, the adaptive cruise control kicked in and launched my car forward over the small concrete bollard, through a chain-link fence and into a tree stump (roughly the length of the car again). This caused considerable damage to my vehicle, but more so I am concerned for other drivers that these two drive modes conflict with each other and cause a serious safety concern. Insurance claim has been logged with AAA.

A squirrel entered my ID.4 through the right wheel well while I was at work and it began to make a nest in the front of my engine compartment. I was alerted to the problem by all of the dashboard warning lights flashing the ACC and related front safety systems. The squirrel had chewed through the harness wires down to the connectors on the 8 and 9 connectors and the 6 pin connector. I know it was a squirrel because I saw it in the engine compartment when I opened the hood and other coworkers had nests in their hood areas. No damage to thier vehicle because the critical wires were not so carelessly exposed.

My car has experience Phantom braking 3 times. The automated braking system unexpectedly activated while I was driving out of my driveway and on to the street. There were no cars on the road when it happened. Another time it happened while I was backing out of my garage. It unexpectedly slammed the brakes. It is very scary when it happens because the body ricochets and it startles you and the car goes into park mode. The third time happened while I was driving in a crowded parking lot. I was moving like 5 miles an hour very slowly and it activated the automated braking system, there was a car behind me and I almost got rear ended. I just hope it doesn’t happen to me while I am driving on the freeway. I will be a very dangerous outcome.

As I described via various work orders to VW Centennial service since 05-15-2024 (5 service orders ago). I am seriously concerned about the sensor ability to prevent and effectively work when needed. Today, 02-26-2025 I am documenting a clear scenario where ACC failed. On Freeway 215 driving 60 MPG with ACC engaged. Traffic on the freeway came to a standstill, the ACC engaged and stopped my ID4 from 55 MPH. This is the ideal outcome. However it failed few moments later. ACC showed ready when at standstill. When traffic resumed, ID4 accelerated to commensurate with the traffic at 25mph and ACC kept on par with the car ahead which is intended with the ideal distance. 5 seconds later, cars stopped again. This is where ACC should have stopped my ID4. However it did NOT. ACC did not stop my ID4 only to find myself facing a red collision alert second later within car length away. Had to hit the brakes hard and swerve to avoid collision with the car in front. I was led into a false sense of security as ACC worked minutes prior. This is not the first time ACC failed, and based on my accounting, it only works ¾ times. Even failure to engage ¼ times this can result in a serious collision. Many times I’ve discussed with the service asking them to replicate the same issue reported here. I also gave service exact scenarios where this happened. ACC also consistently fails 100% on highway off-ramps as the sensor does not see off-ramp barriers. As such you can always find ID4 ACC accelerating into increasing elevation off-ramps. A clear example of such you is on Freeway 215 and 95 off-ramp. This is a severe safety flaw that is 100% reproducible that I’ve explained to my service department time and again.

After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.

Feb 13, 2025 Crash

I was driving with Travel Assis on, the car steered left into the center divider then swerved right into other lanes… I was unable to regain control of steering wheel or break to deactivate travel assist for about 10 seconds, the steering wheel felt stuck in the direction that Travel Assist was steering to.

Feb 12, 2025

While driving using the VW Travel Assist (lane keeping) system, the vehicle was unable to "see" the lane markings and Travel Assist disconnected. When this happens the display of the lanes changes from green to gray, but there is no warning. In the case where i was traveling about 30 MPH it took less than a second for the vehicle to steer off the road. The Adaptive Cruise Control remained engaged as the Travel Assist disengaged. Considering that VW has programmed in white and red warnings plus a sound to require the driver to control steering about every 10 seconds it seems to be minor addition to trigger those warning lights and sound if the Travel Assist disengages.

Dec 14, 2024 Crash

I was backing my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 into my very tight driveway very slowly to avoid hitting my other car parked on the street, my house and my neighbors house. The parking collision sensor alerted me that I was close to my other car but I can see out my window that I had room to clear it safely so I continued to back into my driveway at about 1 mile an hour. All of a sudden, my car made a click click noise as it lurched back and forth and then the car took over control and drove into my house about 20-30 feet at maybe 20 mph (not sure exactly but pretty fast) and crashed into my house and my neighbors house/gate. I pumped the brakes 2-3x but they did not work and the car continued driving into my house at that fast speed. I remember thinking omg, the car is not going to stop until it hit the house. No collision sensors went off during the automatic reverse acceleration and no manual nor auto emergency brakes were employed. Even though I pressed the brakes 2-3x, the ring video did not show brake lights (which isn't a surprise since they did not activate). There was a man that just walked his dog behind my car a minute before my car accelerated backwards. He would have been hit at 20mph 2 feet from my car. He is an eye witness to the incident and agreed that this was no way human error. If it were human error and I had accidentally pressed the acceleration pedal, I wouldn't have gone that fast on my super tight driveway and street and I also would have had plenty of time to press the opposite pedal to stop before hitting my own house. I haven't been able to get access to the "black box" yet to see what the car's computer says and haven't reached out to the dealer or VW as my insurance claim is still being processed. My house, my neighbor's gate and my car are badly damaged but am thankful nobody got hurt. I had not seen any indication before that something like this could happen. It was a sunny day, November 23, 2024 12:50pm.

Dec 1, 2024

While driving on the freeway at approximately 65 MPH using adaptive cruise control (ACC) the steering column display changed from MPH to kilometers per hour (KPH). See attached photo and description. The change of cruise control setting distracted the driver and caused confusion since the ACC speed setting changed from 65 MPH to 104 KPH. It took a minute for the driver to realize the units of measure caused this change. The dealer has not confirmed this failure, since it is intermittent and has provided not resolution. Several communications to Volkswagen customer service provided no solution.

I have a Manufacturer Compliance Recall and a Manufacturer Safety Recall outstanding, neither of which the manufacturer can fix. I have called the dealership multiple times to make an appointment to have them fixed, but they do not yet have the remedies available. I have had multiple problems with this car from the day I got it on November 6, 2023. I get errors that pop up constantly on the screen, but they come and go so quickly while I'm driving that I can barely read them, much less take a photo. One of them says maneuver braking is not available. My screen goes out and flashes constantly, but again, it happens so quickly that I can't get photos while I'm driving. I have tried many times, but I'm not going to risk my safety to get a photo of my failing software. This car has no TPMS sensors, so I never have any idea of the status of my tires or if they're low. The car brakes suddenly, going forward and in reverse, and it has happened going at a high speed on the tollway. It was very scary and thankfully no one was behind me. I have trouble getting the charger out of the port on a regular basis. I have to unlock the vehicle on the fob about 5 times before the charger will come out. When I plug in the charger, it is hit or miss whether it will actually charge. I always have to check it later to see if it actually did. It charges on the first try about 50% of the time, and this car has put me in a bind multiple times when I have a long drive the next day. I believe Volkswagen hired the least competent engineers to build this car. It is the most frighteningly terrible car I've ever driven, and I believe Volkswagen should buy this car back from me at the current market value.

So our door handles have not been working to the point where my kids are stuck in the car and they can’t open the door and from the outside we are not able to open the door. We have safety warnings that pop up often then disappear and also we have our screens turn black and take a mom to turn back on. We have called VW corporate and they told us to keep taking it in then we take it for service and they can’t do anything due to them not having a solution to fix these issues because their under recalls and were physically having the issues they can’t do anything. It’s annoying and it’s a huge safety issue for us and our kids!!

The electronic display has a recall. The display will just blackout at times leaving nothjng readable and not functionable. The collision warning systems constantly go off without anything being in our way causing the car to stop drastically causing passengers to experience severe jolting. This happens often. Door handle defects that are recalled. All recalled issues cannot be fixed according to VW. VW will not take back the car or buy back the car. They currently have a “no sell” on the id.4s and will not buy them back. We cant even get out of this car.

Accident avoidance features I've purchased in the car many times does not work. 1. Proximity sensor does not alert when needed Twice in the last month, vehicle approaching from the right (passenger side) darted forward without any warning. Once in the parking lot and another car also approached from a stopped light (which he broken) causing me to swerve and hit the brake hard on an intersection. 2. Blind spot light on both the driver and passenger mirror only work about 80% or 4/5 times. You can track these intentionally when passing another car, or be passed by a car to the right or left. 3. Proximity alert sounds when at a standstill on a traffic light. Even slightest movement on the brake pedal will sometimes trigger this false positive. I bought the car because of these key safety features and no longer believe these can be relied upon. Have many video and photos to track these events as I try and document for dealership. After advising the dealership, they cannot fix these problems and claim they cannot reproduce these issues. Even after sending them video and photos of these events.

Whole assist package malfunctions on daily basis making the cruise, lane assist, front collision warning, sign recognition not possible to use.

Nov 13, 2024

The speedometer, infotainment system have stopped working and the driver seat warmer turned on randomly while driving. On 10/4/2024, I noticed the car’s main infotainment system was unresponsive and showing a wrong time and frozen. I was driving and could not stop and moments later the speedometer was starting to malfunction as well. I was driving on a local high way and the speedometer indicated I was going at 1 mph or similar. When I was stopped at the stop light it indicated I was going at 4 mph. To avoid collisions, I drove at the speed of traffic. Also the seat warmer turned on randomly. The same day, we called to schedule an appointment with VW near our house and brought the vehicle in the next day. They took a few days to work on it. Once the car was ready, I visited the dealership and the report said they could not reproduce the issues. I asked if then how they could fix the issues and they were unable to and just updated module.

Nov 10, 2024

On two occasions the entire instrument panel went dark. Speed and other information were not available. It is my perception that lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking for collision avoidance and other safety systems were not available during those incidents. I have inquired of dealership maintenance personnel, and they do not know how many systems are affected. When these incidents occur, it is disconcerting for me as a driver and could cause an accident. If the safety systems are not functioning, then the probability of high-speed collision is increased. Examples of that would include front-rear collision at highway speed and lane changing or merging on expressways. A recall for these problems was issued in May, 2024 with an update in July but the manufacturer says they don't know how to fix it. I have asked them for either a prompt repair or for them to buy-back the car. They have denied my request. I believe that so much time has passed that they should be required to repurchase the car.

Nov 10, 2024 Crash

As I was driving my vehicle around 5 miles per hour on a small street looking for parking, the car had some electrical malfunction that caused it to move forward and hit a parked vehicle, then reversed into another vehicle. The safety of my fiancee, myself and my dog were put at risk as we were jolted back and forth as this happened. The car has been inspected by my insurance company and the mechanic who had to do the repairs. No warning lamps or messages were present prior to the failure.

Nov 8, 2024 Crash

I left my office at about [XXX] on [XXX] Thursday for home, traffic was moderate, approaching the long weekend. I reached home at 5:29 pm, opened the garage and started parking the vehicle inside the car. All of a sudden, the car just took off and randomly accelerated and the next thing I found was that the vehicle landed and stopped right inside the house on the small island by the garage entrance, which is about 9” higher than garage floor, into the house with the front metal door and right side of the wall and bathroom door all shattered in front! On my left, I saw my wife in (by kitchen stove) in total panic and my [XXX] mother- in- law shouting to my wife. “What happened?!”, and my [XXX] grandson crying and closing his ears from the loud sound! Instinctively, as I realized I would not be able to exit the vehicle from where it was lodged, I reversed the vehicle back into garage where I could come out. As I switched into reverse gear (which this vehicle requires you to press the brake to be able to switch from drive to reverse), the vehicle again just accelerated with force. This time, damaging the garbage can in the garage, left garage door vertical track, drywall and outside brick wall, as the brakes were not engaging. If I had not steered my car right or left, I would have landed in the living room of the house across the street. Therefore, I steered to the right to remain on the street (in hindsight, this may not have been the best choice – in case there was another vehicle or resident walking on the street). As my vehicle was in reverse, going towards the street perpendicular to mine, it knocked down the street sign pole onto my property, ran over the curb, grass, and landscaping stones on my lawn. Finally, the vehicle stopped two feet away from my living room window and 3-4 feet above street level, under a tree on my front lawn, crashing against a big landscaping rock. When the vehicle stopped, it took me at least 30 seconds to rea INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FO

I was arriving for an appointment and preparing to parallel park on the street. I was parking on a street in front of the office building, which is located on a corner. I observed the second and third vehicles parked from the corner were preparing to depart. I moved my vehicle slightly to the shoulder and activated my blinker to wait for the vehicles to leave. I idled next to the car parked at the corner to allow room for the departing vehicles to exit and for myself to pull in. Both vehicles pulled out of their parking spaces and into the street. I then proceeded to accelerate to pull into a parking spot. As two spots had opened, it was large enough for me to pull in forward without needing to parallel park by backing in. As I started to pull in, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system malfunctioned and erroneously engaged the brakes with violent force. An alarm sounded in the vehicle, a red warning flashed on the screen, and I was launched violently forward in my seat. The force with which the vehicle stopped made it seem as though I had hit something hard, like a wall. I quickly put the vehicle in park -- only halfway pulled into the parking spot -- and exited the vehicle to survey the situation. After circling the vehicle, it was clear that nothing had been hit and there were no obstructions in the road whatsoever. I returned to the driver’s seat and resumed parking. After pulling into the space, I put the vehicle into reverse to straighten out. Again, the vehicle’s braking system engaged without reason, though this time less violently and without the sound alarm and red warning. After parking, I exited the vehicle and took photographs of the area to document that there were no obstructions or anything else in the environment that would cause the system to believe there was an obstruction. Due to the malfunction, I sustained injuries consistent with whiplash -- pain, tightness, and inflammation along the left side of my neck and left shoulder.

As I was driving, the infotainment screen went black and Apple CarPlay stopped playing. As this happened, the driver’s information screen still worked but changed to grey scale colors. After about 4 minutes of the infotainment screen being black, the driver’s info screen also went black. This continued for about one more minute when both screens rebooted on their own.

Collision warnings/automatic breaking has failed on vehicle multiple times. Presumably due to the software/hardware not being able to process. This has led to several incidents of near collision when in travel assist (self driving) and in general operation where it has actively backed into objects. Dealer did not have comments on incidents. Also raised infotainment resetting during driving from current campaign which is 6+ months old and they did not have an ETA on a resolution. Recommend pushing a forced buy back campaign as VW is unable to fix these dangerous issues.

Oct 1, 2024 Crash

On 9/17/2024 roughly at 10:00PM, while in the drive-thru picking up food, my Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly self-accelerated out of nowhere as I was slowly driving towards the window to pay for food. I was completely shocked—I’ve never experienced anything like this. I tried to react quickly, but the car surged forward and slammed into a large cement light post. The impact was hard, and the car is now severely damaged. What really shook me was that none of the safety features I’ve come to rely on worked—there was no automatic braking, late front collision warning, and despite the heavy impact, none of the airbags deployed. I ended up feeling all bruised and now have some severe mid-back pain. The thought that I could have easily been hurt more seriously, or worse, could have harmed someone else if this had happened in a crowded area, is traumatizing. This has made me completely lose trust in the vehicle’s safety systems. If the car can do this in such a low-risk situation, I can’t imagine what might happen in a more dangerous scenario. I brought up other safety concerns to Volkswagen that were completely dismissed.

I am writing to complain that VW has not offered any assistance or solution to the electronic software failure noted in NHTSA Recall # 24V344. I have been experiencing software and electrical failures that affect the center and dashboard displays. I have no speedometer or rearview camera display, no warning systems, no cruise control, etc. Also, the car periodically locks itself and won't allow me to enter the car with the key fob, and I have to leave the window open to open the car manually. The lack of a dashboard display of speed is dangerous. I brought the car to VW dealer who reset the software and that fixed the problem for one month and then the problems returned. VW claims it is a software problem but has not offered any software updates or repairs since it was first published as a recall in May 2024. My car is too dangerous to drive when this software failure occurs--which sometimes happens while driving nd immediately affects the drivability and safe operation of the car. When it happens, nearly all the warning lights and messages start blinking and cycling while driving. We need help with putting pressure on VW to offer a solution and repair of this serious operational issue.

Vehicle has an error stating: “Warning and Information not Available. Drive with greater care!” Key safety features including speedometer and back-up camera are not available. Issue is not due to delayed boot-up. Speedometer and cameras did not return during a long drive. Error remained after vehicle was shut off and restarted. See photos of error message and note lack of speedometer and cameras.

There is a recall on this vehicle and is very dangerous to drive. The screens go dark and we are unable to see how fast we are going. When this happens we also do not know if any of the safety features work. I have been told by the local VW dealer that as of right now there is no fix to this recall. I feel that VW should have better options for the consumer to be taken out of this vehicle. This is very dangerous and could really cause a lot of harm.

Sep 12, 2024

Both screens turn off while I’m driving 70+ mph on the highway therefore none of the features work like adaptive cruise or lane assist. It caused me to almost get into an accident a couple of times. Volkswagen says they won’t buy it back or fix it since it’s under the recall. I don’t know what to do. These cars are not safe for the road and are putting people’s lives at risk being driven.

The infotainment system continuously goes out on a daily basis and I have to reboot it every time, the rear camera will delay or not come on at all and I have to put the car in neutral then back to reverse to get it back on. The speedometer screen goes out constantly and won’t show how fast I am driving or my battery percent. I don’t get the mileage I’m suppose to get out of a charge, it automatically breaks when driving on highways for no reason. Sometimes the screen will go white and show code. This car is highly dangerous to the public and nobody is helping me get out of it. It’s a recall with no fix available and I can’t even get a loaner or anything.

There's two screens in the car. One displays speed and other functional items. The other one is the infotainment screen. In random occasions, BOTH screens go black for over a minute, meaning that the system reboots but it takes over a minute to start again, leaving the driver without any critical information while driving (speed, turn signals, warnings, etc).

I have a Volkswagon ID4 that has the screen power go off while you are driving, VW says they have no idea when they will have a fix it, but they are aware. The safety features, including the emergency call, don't work, and no airbag lights come on either, everything appears to be disabled. On the highway this happens whenever with no warning. I do have videos of some of the incidents. Lane keep assist Etc does not work. It is 10 months old with 3k miles due to being afraid to drive it.,

Was stationary in dense traffic, all waiting for a local bridge to open. We had been waiting for 10 or so minutes. Had braked and stopped close to car in front, car in Auto Hold. All of a sudden, my car accelerated quickly into stationary car in front, twice I believe, before I was able to brake and turn car off. I do not know why this happened or whether there were any warnings. Affected my car, car in front of me, and car in front of them. No one hurt, my car front rather damaged, perhaps $12,000+, car in front damaged front and rear. We were able to drive away, but my car not safe to drive. Is currently parked and waiting to be towed once collision shop space is available. I have not taken to dealer to test as is not safe to drive. No one has inspected in person yet.

My 2023 ID4 suddenly accelerated and lunged forward (while my foot was on the brake) as I was turning right into a parking spot. I was going very slow with my foot on the brake . The ID4 lurched forward which propelled me in the wall of a concrete building that I was parking at (luckily no damage to the building). The acceleration was so powerful it’s like I floored it and frightening. None of the warning signals, sensors or collision warnings went off, nor did the emergency braking (when an object is too close in the front of the vehicle). After the ID4 went into the wall- it had registered that there was a collision (but nothing before). There was damage to the lower plastic bumper, the hood popped open (the latch to open the hood inside the vehicle now did not work) and some paint scratches. This had never happened before, I have taken it to my local VW dealer service department, unfortunately they have not been able to reproduce the issue. Had I been coming to stop at a traffic light, or been in a busy parking lot, it could have been much worse as this could have lurched into another vehicle, pedestrian or business store front.

I was easing slowly into a parking space, with plenty of room on both sides (no cars); there was a shopping cart at the front of the spot to my left. I was probably straightening the steering wheel back to the center. The car took over, accelerated suddenly to a very fast speed, jumped a high curb, and stopped hard in the lot's main drive. The front right wheel clipped a tree through the mulch. No safety features engaged. There was significant damage to the vehicle, and the impact badly bruised my right hand. I am very safety conscious, easy on the pedals, and cruise into stops. We have used the travel assist but not the cruise control function (which may have been set when the car was in transit). Several similar cases are reported on social media, with the leading theory being the accidental engagement of haptic steering wheel controls. A police officer took a report, but it has not been made available. I filed a report with the manufacturer and look forward to your investigation.

Jun 6, 2024 Crash

I was halfway into a parking stall. There was a cement sign post at the end of the stall and a truck facing me opposite. About six feet from the post the car accelerated and glanced off the post and hit the truck slightly. It happened very fast but I am 99% sure the car accelerated on its own. We did a search afterwards and found many reports of our model doing similar things.

RE: Case No: [XXX]- VIN: [XXX] Consumer: [XXX] & [XXX] Manufacturer: Volkswagen/Audi of America, INC Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology To All Concerned: My take on the following is that not automatically resuming adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road is the choice. Just broaching the subject of Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology indicates they have reason to investigate. Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology Insurance Institute for Highway Safety The IIHS outlines the full list of criteria that qualifies a vehicle for a good rating: •Monitors both the driver’s gaze and hand position •Uses multiple types of rapidly escalating alerts to get the driver’s attention •Employs a fail-safe procedure to slow the vehicle, notify the manufacturer and keep automation off limits for the remainder of the drive •Requires automated lane changes to be initiated or confirmed by the driver •Does not automatically resume adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road •Does not discourage steering by the driver while lane-centering •Prohibits automation features if the seat belt is unfastened •Prohibits automation features if automatic emergency braking or lane departure prevention and warning systems are disabled Not terminating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology upon manual braking creates an unsafe condition. I am still including this page simply because it reinforces the primary fact that Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology offers different programing related to resetting/reactivating the Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology. While trying to set cruise control, this vehicle has the option of standard cruise or adaptive. There is a toggle button, however, is is so sensitive I am never able to toggle to standard cruise. Naturally I am driving and the toggle will not go to standard. Poor design and super sensitive feature. This is one of many different features that do this. I have found my eyes moving to this to see if I can get standard cruise on and it does not happen. I give up because I do not wan to keep taking my eyes off the road.

I am writing to file a formal complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding a critical safety concern with my recently purchased vehicle, a VW ID 4 model from 2021-2023. Vehicle Information: VIN: [XXX] Make: Volkswagen Model: ID 4 Year: 2021-2023 Date of Purchase: January 5th, 2024 Incident Details: On [XXX], I experienced a hazardous incident involving sudden acceleration when releasing the brake pedal as I was coming to a stop and pulling into a parking space. Despite the fact that the pedal was not fully released, the vehicle accelerated forward, colliding with another vehicle at an approximate speed of 40-50 MPH. Shockingly, neither the airbags deployed nor did the safety automatic braking system engage. The incident raised significant safety concerns, especially considering similar reports from other VW ID 4 owners. Actions Taken: I promptly took the vehicle to VW Marin Dealership in San Rafael, CA, where their report claimed no issues with the vehicle. However, further research on my part revealed that this issue is prevalent among VW ID 4 models from 2021 to 2023. Attached to this letter, you will find pictures of both vehicles involved in the incident for your reference. Request for Investigation: I urge the NHTSA to thoroughly investigate this safety issue with VW ID 4 models from 2021-2023. The potential risks associated with sudden acceleration pose a serious threat to the safety of vehicle occupants and others on the road. Identifying and addressing the root cause of this problem is crucial to preventing future accidents and fatalities related to this faulty vehicle behavior. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated, and I trust that the NHTSA will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all motorists. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 S. The contact stated that while coming to a stop at 7MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated. The contact then attempted to switch lanes but crashed into the vehicle in front at 20mph. The air bag did not deploy. There were no injuries reported. No police report was filed. The vehicle did not display any warning messages. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200.

1. FRONT COLLISION WARNING SENSOR DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WORKING. THE FRONT SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT ANYTHING IN THE FRONT WHILE IN DRIVING MODE. COULD BE A SOFTWARE OR SENSOR ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT. 2. WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, USUALLY ON THE STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES OFF OR GOES TO THE PARK MODE. IN ORDER TO SWITCH ON THE VEHICLE, I NEED TO STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE, LOCK THE DOORS, THEN UNLOCK THE DOORS, THEN I CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE. TO DRIVE. LOOKS LIKE THERE MUST BE A SOFTWARE ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR THE SAFETY AND CONVINCE.

* After parking on a hill (with the car facing uphill) and putting the car in Park, as my wife was gathering her things to exit the car, the car suddenly released from Park and lurched backward, rolling into the parked car behind it. This caused a dent on the back of the ID4, fortunately no damage to the other car. And especially fortunate that no people were hurt. * We called the dealership and also opened a case with VW corporate. Both were very responsive. After a week of running tests, they returned the car to us because they couldn't reproduce the issue and didn't find any error codes through their diagnostics * While driving the car myself, I experienced the issue again in a different context -- I was pulling out of a parking lot, on a downramp waiting to enter the street. As I lifted my foot from the brake preparing to drive into the street, the car lurched backward, up the downramp. Fortunately there was no car behind me and no pedestrians walking by. We reported this to the dealership and VW. They immediately took the car in again and kept it another week. Ultimately one of the techs at the dealership did experience the issue. We have a written report from the dealership that says, "Verified customer concern. Vehicle slightly rolled back before moving forward." (report uploaded) However, neither the dealership nor VW could trace this to an "error code" or a root cause. With confirmation of the issue from the dealer, I formally asked VW to cover the costs of the repair. VW said they would not, because there was no "error code" that pointed to a manufacturing fault. I argued that if we have confirmation that the car is doing something it shouldn't be doing, the fact that VW doesn't know why doesn't mean it's not their responsibility. The car is still potentially very unsafe. * We repaired the car at our expense (invoice uploaded) but I would still like VW to take responsibility for the cost and also ensure the car is safe for us and for others

I was pulling into a parking structure when the left side of the vehicle (door handles, windows, sensors) lost power. I was able to park the vehicle and then have it towed to the dealership. Although it happened at very low speed, my safety was at risk. It would have been very dangerous if this had happened on the freeway. I was unable to open the door or to close the driver window. The dealer found a blown fuse. They have not been able to identify a cause of what would cause a fuse to blow like this. They continue to work on it (we are on day 3 now) including working with VW of America engineering. The two recalls on this vehicle have been address (approx 10 days ago). I have had numerous other problems with this vehicle that I don't believe are related to this particular incident apart from the recall related to the door handles.

The problem happened couple of times. Also, the Carplay feature freezes and is interrupted a lot.

I have never been in a car accident in my entire life. This was my first ever electric vehicle, and I really loved driving it for the one week I owned it before the brakes failed to stop it. On 03/31 I had to restart the software several times because it froze when i was trying to connect it to Apple Carplay, but it was fine the next day. During the crash, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting a sign and curb. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. Not only did the brakes not work but the the brake assist failed, the collision avoidance system, the steering wheel locked, and the airbags failed to deploy. Both my left side tires became flat. If I would have known how unsafe this was, I would have never selected it in the first place. I chose this vehicle because I thought I would be safe and I wanted to save money on gas. I am so extremely terrified to drive this car and the dealership service center claimed there was nothing wrong with the car.

Our forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning systems stopped working on our 2023 ID.4 with 2500 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealership on 3/3/23 for repairs, after 4 hours the tech came out and was clueless what to what was causing the issue. They requested I leave the vehicle there the rest of the day so a tech from a different location could remote into the vehicle. After another 4-5 hours I was informed they "thought" one of the control modules was defective and needed to be replaced. They say this part has no ETA and would likely take anywhere from several weeks to MANY months to come in. VW does not consider any of these items a "safety issue" and refused to provide a loaner until parts became available.

Drivers door will not open from exterior and occasionally interior. Parts on back order. Serious safety issue. VW America will not give me a loaner therefore making me crawl through my car to get in. Key fob is supposed to open all windows simultaneously however that is also faulty. I feel this car is an absolute death trap. When I’m reverse, if your body slightly lifts off seat, car comes to a screeching hault. Making it impossible to backup without solely relying on review camera. Many times camera is not sufficient for visual backup.

VW ID4 2023 Day two owning ID4, driver's door would not open. I was at the dealership at the time and I was told to make an appointment to fix it. I was also told, it was a thing happening with some new VW ID4 2023. Some sort of short circuit. I went home, did some research, I learned about the recall. I questioned a person on the phone (from dealership) about the notice. They did not answer whether it was safe to drive. On the way to the dealership to fix the door issue, I was involved in a crash. Leaving a red light a car stopped short to avoid a dog. I saw it, hit the brakes all the way down to the floor. ID4 decelerated but did not stop and I braced for impact. I rammed into the car in front of me. I left car at the dealership, I have yet to hear back if it was vehicle malfunction. Timeline: Jan 3: New Car purchased Jan 5: Driver's door would not open from outside. I was told to make an appointment due to limited technicians. I was on site at VW at the time Jan 6: I sent over a text to sales team with a screenshot showing me the recall. No reply from VW Jan 16: On my way to VW for recall, i was involved in a crash.
