The car has been jerking when you’re driving and sometimes it jerks forward as you’re parking it while it’s in the parked position. Then I’m driving home from work , it’s raining heavy. I get to the Valaro store by my house; I put $40.00 worth of gas in the car after work drove home parked the car the next morning it would not turn over , would not ignite at all I took it to the shop. They said the computer was fried from the rain leaking through the windshield or under the windshield. They said it’s a major problem with this model car. The mechanic said the computer could not be fixed. He sent it to the Volkswagen repair shop it can’t be fixed and to replace it cost thousands of dollars !!! I can provide an estimate of the problems and possible repairs if needed . The mechanic stated it is not worth the cost to fix the car. I did notice that there is a powertrain recall and my mechanic is also stating that the transmission is the jerking problem we’re having.. I really think these should be recalled however I needed to submit my issues and see what you final decision would be on both situations, the powertrain transmission problem and the computer burnout problem thank you so much and hope you’re having a great day
TRANSMISSION SLIPS EXTREMELY BADLY EVEN THOUGH IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE 90K MILES ALMOST MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE IN CITY AND IS DANGEROUS WHEN NEEDING TO SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN. TRANSMISSION SLIPS MORE WHEN SPEEDING UP FROM SLOW SPEEDS AND WILL REACH HIGH RPMS OF 4700 EVEN WHEN NOT TOUCHING THE GAS BUT I HAVE HAD IT SLIP ON THE HIGHWAY OUT OF NOWHERE AND IT PEAKED AT 7300 RPM WHEN NOT TOUCHING THE GAS WHICH IS PAST THE REDLINE ON THE RPMS. IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY DAY I DRIVE TO WORK (20 MINUTES ON THE FREEWAY) AND SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING WITH THIS LOW AMOUNT OF MILES.

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE FOUND METAL SHAVEN IN THE TRANSMISSION AND DRAINED IT. AFTER A FEW DAYS THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED IN 2018. I JUST PARKED THE CAR UNTIL I CAN FIGURE WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH MY CAR. TODAY JULY 7, 2019 I DROVE THE CAR TO MY NEW RESIDENT AND IT GOT STUCK IN 3RD GEAR. I PURCHASE MY VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2007 FOR A DEALER IN PALM SPRINGS AREA, I ALWAYS HAD TROUBLES WITH MY VEHICLE. I SHOWED MY FATHER THE AGREEMENT ON THE FORM AND I WAS UPSET TO SEE THEY TOOK ADVANCED OF MY DAUGHTER, THE CAR WAS POSTED AS IS. A MONTH AFTER SHE BOUGHT THE CAR THE TRANSMISSION WAS CAUSING TROUBLE, THE CAR WOULD HESITATER THEN MAKE A CHIRP NOISE AND THEN HIT A FASTER JUMP INTO GEAR. SOMETIMES THE CAR WOULD MAKE SKID MARKS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2015, IT HAD 72K MILES THEN, NOW IT HAS 90K MILES. THE LAST 1 YEAR I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE JERKING WHEN IT WARMS UP ENOUGH ESPECIALLY WHEN I GET TO A STOP LIGHT AND START DRIVING, OFTEN TIMES THE ENGINE REVVS UP SO MUCH AS IF SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND THEN SETTLES DOWN. VW DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY KNOWING ABOUT THIS DEFECT UP TO 100K AND 6 YEARS WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. THERE ARE A LOT OF FORUMS WHERE SEVERAL OF THE AFFECTED ARE DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS FOR AUTO TRANSMISSION VEHICLE. NOT SURE WHY THIS WAS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL, SINCE THE GEAR GOES UP BY ITSELF OFTEN TIMES AS IF I MAY HIT THE VEHICLE ON THE FRONT. THE ISSUE IS WITH TRANSMISSION VALVE THAT VW AGREED IS FOUND DEFECTIVE. I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD MAKE IT A RECALL IF THE PART IF FOUND DEFECTIVE. IT IS AN EXPENSIVE PART AND THE PARTS AND LABOR COSTS ABOUT 2K. THIS ISSUE HAS IMPACTED PRETTY MUCH ALL THE VEHICLES MADE DURING 2005 UNTIL 2007 OR 2008 AND IS AFFECTING ALL 2.5 ENGINES ESPECIALLY THE WULFSBURG EDITION WHICH IS ONE OF THE HIGH END IN THAT MODEL. APPRECIATE IF YOU GUYS HAVE A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND DO THE NEEDFUL. THE PATTERN IS SUCH THAT THE VEHICLE RUNS JUST FINE WHEN JUST STARTED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, ONCE THE ENGINE WARMS UP THE VEHICLE WILL START ACTING UP, WHEN IN HIGH WAY WITH A STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR AT LOCAL ROADS. THE ENGINE WILL REV UP TO 4 OR 5 SUDDENLY, THERE IS A LOT OF HESITATION, I HAVE TO GIVE VERY LIGHT ACCELARATION IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE ON THE FRONT. IT BECOMES LIFE THREATENING OFTEN TIMES.

MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 165K MILES. RIGHT AT ABOUT 120K MILES, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING HARSHLY. MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALSO ON CONSTANTLY. I'VE HAD THE ISSUE FIXED PREVIOUSLY, HOWEVER, THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED. LASTLY, MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT LIKE ALL THE TIME. I'VE TRIED TO REMOTELY AND MANUALLY LOCK THE DOOR; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

I NOTICED THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON FEW WEEKS AGO THEN THE SHAFTS' LIGHTS STARTED TURNING ON ALL AT THE SAME TIME (P-R-N-D). THE CAR WAS MOVING AND A KNOCKING SOUND STARTED WHEN THE WEATHER GETS HOT. I TOOK IT TO COUPLE OF CAR SHOP SERVICES AND NON WAS ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEM BUT RATHER, THEY OFFERED TO CHANGE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION FOR +4,500 DOLLARS SO THAT THEY WOULD WORK IT SIMPLY WITH A GOOD PROFIT! WHILE DRIVING EARLIER TODAY, THERE WAS A VERY WEIRD SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND I PLANED TO TAKE IT TO VW SERVICES SO THAT THEY'D TAKE A LOOK AT IT. UNFORTUNATELY, FEW MINUTES LATER THE CAR STOPPED MOVING AND I HAD TO PULL UP. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT VW IS CALLING VW JETTA 2006-2009, ENGINE 2.01 FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON. THOUGH, MY CAR IS 2.5 ENGINE BUT HAPPENED TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. I'M TOWING THE CAR TOMORROW MORNING AND I'LL TAKE IT TO VW SERVICES AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CONSIDER THIS INCIDENT FOR THE 2.5L CARS ALSO. *TR

TIPTRONIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE TO DEFECTIVE VALVE BODY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT DENIED BY VW. TOOK CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD THAT I PURCHASED, ONE TIME FOR SHIFTING ISSUES AT LOW SPEEDS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ISSUED BY VW WAS GOOD FOR 7 YEARS OR 100,000. AT APPROXIMATELY 99,500 PROBLEM HAD BEEN GETTING WORSE SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT STILL WAS NOT THROWING AN ERROR CODE BUT IN THE MASTER TECHNICIAN'S OPINION, THE TRANSMISSION HAD A PROBLEM BUT IT WAS NOT THE FAULT OF THE VALVE BODY, THE COVERED PART. ALSO, THIS IS A NON-SERVICEABLE TRANSMISSION MEANING THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED RATHER THAN REBUILDING. TOOK TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTER WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A DEFECTIVE VALVE BODY (THE PART COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY). IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART, A REBUILD KIT AND TORQUE CONVERTER WERE REPLACED AS PART OF THIS PROCESS. SUBMITTED THE INVOICES TO VW. RECEIVED LETTER THAT PAYMENT FOR REPAIRS WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE INVOICES THAT I SUBMITTED STATED THAT "THE REPAIR PERFORMED WERE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER". NOT TRUE. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE. DETAILED EVERYTHING I DID HERE. AFTER SOME CHECKING, THE REPRESENTATIVE "REGRETTED" TO INFORM ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP IN COVERING THE COSTS OF THE REPAIR. TO SAY THAT I AM FRUSTRATED BEYOND BELIEF IS PUTTING IT MILDLY. *TR

WAS ACCELERATING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY DURING RUSH HOUR FROM FULL STOP AT ON RAMP DUE TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND AT AROUND 20 OR SO MPH THE CAR LOSS POWER AND THE RPM QUICKLY INCREASED AS IF YOU WERE PRESSING THE CLUTCH IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE, THIS IS A AUTOMATIC VEHICLE SO THE ISSUE WAS DEFINITELY CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTION SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE DRIVEN TRAIN OR ELECTRICAL SENSORS CONTROLLING THE DRIVE TRAIN. SINCE THAT TIME THIS FRIGHTENING ISSUE HAS BEEN INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED. WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, MY VW'S DSG TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. THE ENGINE RPMS WOULD INCREASE TO 6000 THEN DROP SUDDENLY TO 500. WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING, THE ENGINE WOULD SUDDENLY REENGAGE, CAUSING THE CAR TO SURGE AND BUCK. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD THEN SLIP AGAIN, AND THE ENGINE SURGING AND VEHICLE BUCKING CYCLE WOULD CONTINUE. SYMPTOMS OF THE DSG TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRING; TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP. RPMS WOULD INCREASE THEN DECREASE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. ENGINE WOULD ENGAGE THEN DISENGAGE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIOLENTLY BUCK, SHAKE, AND JERK. THE PRNDS NOMENCLATURE WOULD FLASH RAPIDLY, INDICATING A FAULT WITHIN THE SYSTEM. THE FINAL INDICATION OF THE SEVERITY OF THE DSG TRANSMISSION'S COMPLETE FAILURE WAS THE CARS INABILITY TO MOVE UNDER THROTTLE. THE CARS VELOCITY WAS COMPLETELY UNCONTROLLABLE. I AM VERY METICULOUS ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE OF MY VEHICLES. VW REQUIRES A FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE AT 40,000 FOR THE DSG. I HAD MINE DONE AT 39,000 THIS HAPPENED ON I70 ON THE BORDER OF PA/MD. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT LOSS OF LIFE OR PROPERTY. HOWEVER, HAD THIS DSG/TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED ON 495 IN VA/MD, ( WHICH WAS MY LOCATION JUST 2 HOURS PRIOR) THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. VW IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH ITS DSG TRANSMISSION, BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. NOTE THE VIN SPECIFIC RECALL IN THE US FOR DSG/MECHATRONIC/ TEMP SENSOR. HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD. MY VIN IS NOT SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL, YET MY VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AND FAILURE AS THAT SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE OF MY DSG TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND WITHOUT WARNING. HAD I NOT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PULL MY CAR SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE INJURY OR WORSE YET, LOSS OF LIFE FOR ME OR OTHER DRIVERS. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE INSPECTED. THE DEALER NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.

MY 2007 VW JETTA GLI WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND NOT ALLOW ME TO PULL AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT. THE CAR DRIFTED BACK AND SUDDENLY LURCHED INTO GEAR AND PULLED AWAY FINALLY. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS 2 OR 3 TIMES SINCE AND IS CURRENTLY BEING CHECKED BY MY LOCAL VW DEALER. I HAVE SPOKEN TO VW CUSTOMER SERVICE REGARDING THE DSG ISSUES. MY CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER ANY RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM ACCORDING TO THEIR RECORDS WHEN CHECKING MY VIN. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER STRANGE SHIFTS, BUT THE LACK OF POWER WHEN PULLING OUT IS VERY SCARY AND UNSAFE. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE FLASHING OF THE GEAR INDICATOR LIGHTS IN THE MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY. *TR

I OWN A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLI WITH A 2.0T ENGINE AND A DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) TRANSMISSION. AT APPROXIMATELY 33,000 MILES (IN 12/2008), MY DSG TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN 40MPH ROAD INTO MY JOB. I LOST POWER AT ABOUT 20MPH WHILE TURNING LEFT IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC BUT WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST INTO MY WORKS SIDE ROADS TO PULL OVER. THE LOSS OF POWER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE FLASHING OF ALL TRANSMISSION GEAR LIGHTS (PRDNS), WHICH IS TYPICAL OF ALL DSG TRANSMISSION FAILURES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. VW COMPLETELY REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY AND NEVER TOLD ME EXACTLY WHICH PART OF MY DSG ACTUALLY FAILED. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY SIMPLY REMOVE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND SEND IT BACK TO VW. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR A SMALL NUMBER OF 08-09 DSG EQUIPPED CARS, WHICH WAS IMPLEMENTED BECAUSE A FAULTY TEMPERATURE SENSOR CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND ALL POWER WOULD BE LOST, RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS POWER LOSS IS WHAT I EXPERIENCED, AND ALTHOUGH MY PROBLEM WAS LIKELY UNRELATED TO THE CURRENT RECALL RATIONALE, WAS DANGEROUS TO ME NONETHELESS. I VISIT A VW ENTHUSIAST WEBSITE WHERE DSG FAILURES ON ALL MODEL YEARS ARE MORE COMMONPLACE THAN SHOULD BE ACCEPTED. IF THIS HIGH FAILURE TRANSMISSION RESULTS IN A DANGEROUS CONDITION, VW SHOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM BY FIXING ALL DSG MODELS WITH UPDATED COMPONENTS FOR ALL KNOWN COMMONLY FAILING DSG COMPONENTS. AT THE VERY LEAST, VW SHOULD ALSO EXTEND DSG WARRANTIES TO 100,000 MILES TO COVER REPAIRS TO THIS COSTLY TRANSMISSION. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MPH USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND MY CAR WAS IN "DRIVE". ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR HESITATED, AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN FOR NO REASON. I SAW ON THE MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY THE "PRND" WAS FLASHING. I WENT TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE ENGINE JUST REVVED FREELY AND NO POWER WAS APPLIED TO PROPEL THE CAR. I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP AND RESTART THE CAR IN ORDER TO GET IT TO MOVE AGAIN. *TR

THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE JERKY SHIFTS AND THEN BEGAN LURCHING AT SLOW SPEEDS IN FIRST. IN CERTAIN CASES THE GEAR WOULD GRAB AND THEN LET GO ALLOWING THE CAR TO SUDDENLY ROLL BACKWARDS ON HILLS. THE MECHATRONICS UNIT WAS REPLACED AFTER 35000 MILES AND THEN THE SECOND UNIT LASTED FOR 1300 MILES. I AM NOW WAITING FOR MY SECOND REPLACEMENT UNIT. NOTE THIS IS A JETTA GLI WITH 2.0T AND 6 SPEED DSG TRANSMISSION. *TR

2007 JETTA 2.5L REAR BRAKE FAILURE IN JUNE 2007 RESULTED IN ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND VEHICLE WAS HIT DRIVER'S SIDE. REPORTED TO VW AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL FAILURE. BRAKES CONTINUE TO FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY (GRINDING, SQUEALING, SEIZING) DECEMBER 2008 REAR BRAKES REPLACED (30,000KMS) AT MY EXPENSE AS VW HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS AN ISSUE. AUGUST 2007 CLUTCH FAILS AND VEHICLE IS TAKEN TO VW FOR REPAIRS. ADVISED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR (18,000KMS) AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HAD CLUTCH INSPECTED BY A CLUTCH MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISES PARTS FAILED AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER INSTALLATION. VW ISSUES REFUND AFTER LEGAL ACTION IS PURSUED. HAVE HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED AT INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO AGREES WITH SUB STANDARD WORKMANSHIP AND PARTS ON THIS MODEL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACTS OWN A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE SINCE THE FIRST TWO WEEKS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKES GRIND WHENEVER HE ATTEMPTS TO STOP. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED. ON JUNE 11, 2007, HE ARRIVED AT WELLESLEY VOLKSWAGEN AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND DISCOVERED AN ERROR REGISTERED IN THE COMPUTER. WELLESLEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE, BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE HIS VEHICLE WITHIN A FEW DAYS. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO GRIND. DEFAULT CLUTCH FAILURE, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS FORUM FOR A FEW DAYS, EVER SINCE THE 06 TDI JETTA CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR , OH YES ANOTHER CLUTCH PEDAL TO THE FLOOR!. WE WERE TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY, SAME OLD THING CUSTOMER ABUSE, $2700.00 LATER. REPLACED CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE, RELEASE BEARING, AND FLYWHEEL. I WAS SHOCKED. WE HAVE HAD MANY TRANSMISSION IN THE FAMILY WITH EVERYONE DRIVING AND NEVER A PROBLEM. THIS WAS OUR FIRST VOLKSWAGEN AND PROBABLY OUR LAST UNLESS VOLKSWAGEN DOES THE PROPER THING AND REIMBURSES US. ANYWAYS, AFTER THE SHOCK I MADE THEM GIVE ME THE OLD PARTS, PLUS CORE CHARGE OF $35.00, AND DID SOME RESEARCH AT TRANSMISSION SHOPS. AS FAR AS THE SHOPS WERE CONCERNED THERE WAS NO IMPROPER WEAR, NO BLUING, AND AS FAR AS THEY COULD TELL IT WAS CLUTCH FAILURE FROM DEFECTIVE PARTS. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, EARLY MODEL CLUTCHES HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF THE MARKET AND REPLACED WITH AN NEWER STYLE. THIS IS A FACT, EVEN THOUGH THE PRESSURE PLATE AND CLUTCH ONLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED VOLKSWAGEN HAD TO REPLACE THE FLYWHEEL AT A COST OF $1700.00. THE DEALERSHIP LIED TO ME FROM THE BEGINNING SAYING THAT THE NEW CLUTCH CAME IN A KIT ,AND THE FLYWHEEL WAS APART OF THAT KIT. AFTER TALKING TO A PARTS REPRESENTATIVE THEY WERE ALL SOLD SEPARATELY! SO WE ARE NOT DONE WITH THIS FIGHT. VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE WAS NO HELP. BASICALLY, THE DEALER COULD MAKE THE CALL IF IT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE BETTER AFTER MARKET CLUTCHES AVAILABLE. THE COST FOR AN OUTSIDE SHOP WAS QUOTED AT $1,0000.00 TO REPLACE PARTS AND LABOR.
