I brought my car to the dealership not even 2 years ago. They said they fixed my ABS moduler and the EPC updated the software and replaced the ABS moduler if they did then why is my car shutting down and causing me trouble and having issues. I just need this car fixed the correct way. They didnt fix it due to the way they went about it. I need my car fix due to my 8 year old daughter I take yo school and also taking my fiance to PT due to a terrible accident. I need answer or someone to answer why my car is acting up if they fixed it.. Thank You Dawn
My car been fine and went to take my daughter to school and shut the car off and get back in to go home and wouldn't start and the Abs light came on and Check Engine light as well. I am concerned because I think since I have done the ABS no longer then 2 years. I feel like there is a problem and dont think VW fix it the first time when I took it in.. My fiance had a terrible accident 12 month ago and no income and I dont know how we are going to fix it if we have too thats what I am worried about as well.. Thank you, Dawn
I was driving in Clio alabama on state highway 10, when all of a sudden the EPC light came on my 2009 Volkswagen jetta s 2.5 5cyl..... about 2 miles later down the road; the engine cuts off unexpectedly while I am going 62mph down the highway, with an 18 wheeler directly behind me at the same speed. The car just quits, won't do anything, so I swerved over the side the road so I wouldn't get hit by the 18wheeler and tried to restart the car and it wouldn't do anything. I've had to tow it back to my home and I've had multiple mechanics look at it and try to discover the problem but every time they hook up a diagnostic scanner , and it throws a code, I've purchased the parts that shouldve fixed said dtc code, and rescan the car and that fault code will be gone but there'll be a new one each and every time. . It is costing too much to continue to fix it . It will turn over but it will NOT crank up. I don't know what else to do about it but something is just not right about this issue so I am reporting it as a safety issue because the total loss of power near about caused me to get hit by an 18wheeler at very high speeds and could've been killed. And it's also some type of an electrical issue and I am reporting it to hopefully obtain an answer to the issue, help repairing it or replacing it, or Volkswagen to repurchase the car from me and most importantly I'm reporting this so hopefully it will be able to save someone's life one day . WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65MPH, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATED STOP! OIL PRESSURE ENGINE OFF! AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP. WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF EXIT. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED FROM HIGHWAY TO REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAILURE IN THE HEX DRIVE BIT FROM THE BALANCE SHAFT MODULE TO THE OIL PUMP. ALSO CAUSED TURBOCHARGER FAILURE DUE TO LACK OF OIL FLOW. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED TO REQUIRED SCHEDULE AND HAD NO PRIOR INDICATIONS OF IMMINENT FAILURE.

THE CARS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK IT TO GET CHECKED AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE . I HAD JUST GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP A WEEK BEFORE AND HAD THE BACK BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED FOR $500 DOLLARS AND THE OIL CHANGED FOR ANOTHER $100. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

AFTER DRIVING IT A MILE OR TWO. IT GOT LOUDER, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AT THE CLOSEST PART STORE ABOUT 5 MIN AFTER THE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY CHECKED IT WITH THE SCANNER. SAID IT WAS A KNOCK SENSOR CODE. P0328, BANK 1.TOOK IT TO VW. TO GET A DIAGNOSITS DONE. AND THE MAN SAID IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL. THE PROBLEM I WAS HEARING, AND THE CODE. WAS FROM THE RECALLED PART. THEY CHANGED THAT PART. SAID IT WAS A FUSE PANEL ON ENGINE BLOCK. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THE SAME. THEN, HE SAID IT WAS NOT DUE TO THE RECALL. AND I STILL HAD TO PAY THE 120 DOLLAR FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. AND SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO CHECK ANY FURTHER, AND THAT THE LABOR WOULD BE ABOUT 2000 DOLLARS. I HAD TOOK IT BY VW BEFORE IT STARTED TO HAVE ANY NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS.WHEN I HAD HAPPENED TO LOOK UP RECALLS ONLINE. THE MAN LOOKED IT UP BY MY VIN. TOLD ME THERE WERE 3 ACTIVE RECALLS. BUT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER WEEK BEFORE THEY COULD GET TO IT. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE OK TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT, WAS ANY OF THEM SERIOUS ENOUGH TO NOT. HE TOLD ME , NO, THAT IT WOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE. 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBURG 2.0TSI TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. AT 109K MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT START IN THE AM TO GO TO WORK. THIS HAPPENED ON 12/23/16. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER HAD FAILED. THE ENGINE WILL NEED BETWEEN $3600 AND $5500 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COMPONENTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH TO CALL VW CUSTOMER CARE BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY MAY HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. VW TOLD ME THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A MECHANIC THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED BY VW AND HE VERIFIED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR IS STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY LARGE ISSUE THAT GOES BACK TO THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE. ONE CASE FILED IN NEW JERSEY IN MAY 2016 HAS JUST HAD ANOTHER HEARING ON MAY 9TH 2017 WHERE THE SUPREME COURT OF NJ HAS AGREED TO LET THE CASE GO FORWARD STATING THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE SHOWING VW AT FAULT. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE DEALER AND CAN PROVIDE THAT ONCE I AM BACK AT MY HOME. ANY HELP THE MANY CONSUMERS THAT OWN VW AND AUDI VEHICLES WITH THE 2.0TSI ENGINE FROM 2008-2013 CAN GET WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. RESEARCHING VW 2.0TSI TIMING TENSIONER ON THE INTERNET WILL BRING UP THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT MORE, OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PAID UPWARDS OF $10K TO HAVE ENGINES REPAIRED ON CARS THAT HAVE AS LITTLE AS 30K MILES ON THEM. THE VW SERVICE MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER NEEDING SERVICE AT A PARTICULAR MILEAGE.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS STILL ON. NOW EPC LIGHT IS ON. ALSO, ALL OF MY ABS LIGHTS, CHECK ENGINE, STABILITY CONTROL, AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. HOW DO I KNOW THE DEALER ACTUALLY DID THE ABS REPAIR? ALSO, WHY IS THE ABS PUMP NOT PART OF THE RECALL? IT'S DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT THE SOFTWARE CAUSED THE ABS MODULE TO FAIL, BUT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PUMP. THIS CAR SEEMS TO BE A LEMON. WIFE WENT OUTSIDE TO START HER TDI AND AFTER SITTING AND MAKING NO PROGRESS IN WARMING AND SMELLING A LOT OF UN-BURNT DIESEL SHE DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF. AFTER SHE CAME INSIDE AND TOLD ME IT WAS NOT WARMING UP AND IT SEEMED TO BE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL VERY QUICKLY I WENT OUTSIDE TO CHECK IT OUT. I COULD SEE THAT DIESEL HAD LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND, SO I OPENED THE HOOD AND FUEL WAS DRIPPING FROM THE ENGINE MOUNTED FUEL PUMP. I LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AT THIS POINT TO MAKE SURE NO FIRES WHERE STARTED. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK IT APART TO FIND OUT WHAT THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AND AFTER REMOVING THE PUMP, ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL, AND RUBBER LINES I SAW THE END OF THE PUMP HAD POPPED OUT OF ITS CRIMPED ALUMINUM CASE. THIS WAS ALLOWING DIESEL TO LEAK PAST THE RUNNING ELECTRIC PUMP AND ONTO THE RUNNING ENGINE WHICH AT THE POINT OF TURNING IT OFF HAD COVERED THE ENTIRE SERPENTINE SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY IN FUEL. IT WAS A BOSCH PART #1K0 906 098A WE HAVE CONTACTED VW ABOUT THIS AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE IN EITHER OFFERING TO INVESTIGATE THE LEAK OR EXPEDITING THE BUYBACK PROCESS TO REMOVE THIS VEHICLE FROM THE ROADS AND MY DRIVEWAY KNOWING THAT IT LEAKED FUEL. VW DID ACKNOWLEDGE A PRIOR RECALL ON A RUBBER FUEL SUPPLY LINE HAD BEEN PERFORMED BEFORE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. *TR

I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. I STARTED MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE ENGINE MADE A METALLIC RATTLING SOUND AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON UNTIL REACHING THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING "JUMPED TIME" DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. UPON PICKING UP THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS LATER AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THE METAL RING HOLDING THE TENSIONER LATCH IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF; ALLOWING THE TINY ADJUSTABLE LATCH TO FALL OUT, AND THAT BOTH PIECES WERE LYING, LOOSE, IN THE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN APART. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 15-12-01. A WEB SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON AND AFFECTS MULTIPLE YEARS AND MODELS OF VOLKSWAGEN AUTOMOBILES. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR FOR A DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK, AS SOON AS I GOT IT BACK HOME, IT STALLED OUT. FROM THAT POINT ON THE CAR WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS.

THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION BROKE CAUSING THE CHAIN TO BREAK OFF AND BEND SEVERAL VALUES CAUSING EXTENSION DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. MOST CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH TIMING BELTS BUT VW WENT TO THE TIMING CHAIN IN RETURN THE TENSIONER WHICH THEY LATER REVISED IS FAULTY AND BREAKS CAUSING THE CHAIN TO DESTROY SEVERAL IMPORTANT PARTS. VW IS UNWILLING TO HELP US WITH THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE THEY LATER CORRECTED IN THE LATER MODELS. I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE BUT BECAUSE THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AT 60,000 IS EXPIRED THEY WILL DO NOTHING. THERE IS A HUGE FORUM STARTED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS USE AROUND 80-110,00 MILES!! I AM OUTRAGED AND HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR ALL THE DAMAGE OR BASICALLY GET A NEW CAR. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS AT THIS POINT.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A 120,000 MILE SERVICE AND DIAGNOSE THE DASH ENGINE LIGHT AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP I SMELLED DIESEL. I DROVE IT 13 MILES, WHEN I GOT HOME I SMELLED DIESEL AGAIN. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS DIESEL ALL OVER THE LEFT ENGINE SIDE. THERE WAS A WET, SPLIT FUEL LINE, LEAKING FLUID IN THE PARKING LOT, A BLUE PLASTIC SET SMALL RINGS (LIKE THE OLYMPIC SYMBOL) SAT NEAR THE SPLIT HOSE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, AND OTHER CARS TO BE IN DANGER FROM SLICK ROAD, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

EVERY GAUGE STOPPED WORKING (THE GAS GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, ETC) I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND CAREFULLY PROCEEDED TO THE HOUSE. AFTER A HALF MILE THE CAR STALLED AND THE ENGINE DIED. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE, I TOOK IT THE VW DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE ABS MODULE FAILED / BROKE AND CAUSED THE PROBLEMS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING THE DEFECT WHICH CAN CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE HARMFUL AFFECT. I WAS TOLD THAT VOLKSWAGON WAS AWARE OF THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM, WHICH HAS OCCURRED IN A HIGH NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND THEY IN FACT RECOMMENDED AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE INJECTION HOSE AND SENSOR. THIS WAS A $350 REPAIR ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND ACCORDING TO VOLKSWAGON A COMMON REPAIR. I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT CONSUMERS SHOULD ABSORB THE COST OF THIS TYPE OF REPAIR.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PULLED CODES P0087 AND P0088 (FUEL PRESSURE TOO HIGH AND FUEL PRESSURE TOO LOW AT THE SAME TIME). THEY WANT ME TO REPLACE THE FUEL RAIL, WHICH WILL BE AN ESTIMATED $1000 IN TOTAL PARTS/LABOR. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALER IN HOPES OF GETTING A BETTER PRICE AND THEY ARE PUT OFF BY THE FIRST DEALER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF METAL IN MY FUEL SYSTEM BUT EVEN SO, OTHER DEALER THINKS THIS WILL BE MORE SERIOUS THAN JUST REPLACING THE RAIL. AFTER RESEARCHING I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT I AM EXPERIENCING THE BEGINNING OF HPFP FAILURE. I FEEL LIKE I AM DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO! THE FOLLOWING DAY I BOUGHT A CODE READER, READ THE CODES AND FOUND SEVERAL LOGGED, SOME OF WHICH IM CERTAIN WERE RESIDUAL FAULTS FROM THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WHICH WAS INDICATED BY A RECURRING "LOW FUEL RAIL PRESSURE" FAULT. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER WHICH INSTRUCTED ME TO LOOK AT THE FUEL FILTER AND AIDED BY AN ONLINE TECH INFO BLOG I INSPECTED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ACTUATOR FOR METAL DEBRIS. THE FUEL FILTER INSPECTION SHOWED SMALL, TRACE AMOUNTS OF METAL DUST WHILE THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTION SHOWED LARGER AND MORE SUBSTANTIAL METAL SHAVINGS UNDER THE ACTUATOR. THE INSPECTION OF THE TWO COMPONENTS ARE INDICATIVE AND INLINE WITH SIMILAR FINDINGS THAT PROVE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT NO TRACE OF GASOLINE WAS FOUND IN THIS SYSTEM AND ONLY CLEAN DIESEL FUEL WAS PRESENT DURING INSPECTION. FUEL FILTER WAS JUST CHANGED IN AUG 20 2013 AT SAME TIME AS TIMING BELT WHERE HPFP DRIVE GEAR WAS RETORQUED. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT IS NOT FUNCTIONAL AND I'M NOT HAPPY. FILLED FUEL TANK 5 MILES PRIOR TO INCIDENT WITH 11 GALLONS OF DIESEL FUEL (REPUTABLE FUEL DEALER, ALMOST ALWAYS USE THIS DEALER). THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT -- NO ROUGH ENGINE OR STALLING OR TROUBLE OF ANY KIND. CAR IS DRIVEN BY ONLY ONE DRIVER AND IS WELL MAINTAINED, HAS NEVER BEEN FUELED WITH ANYTHING BUT DIESEL FROM REPUTABLE DEALERS. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP (INCLUDING ALL OIL CHANGES) AND IS UP TO DATE ON ALL PERTINENT MAINTENANCE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) AND HAS ACCUSED US OF SOMEHOW ALLOWING METAL INTO THE DIESEL FUEL (THEY EVEN HAD SOME METAL "SAMPLES" TO SHOW ME AT THEIR SERVICE COUNTER, HOW BIZARRE). I WENT BACK TO THE FUEL STATION WHERE WE LAST FILLED UP AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER, WHO SAID THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTS OF ANY ISSUES RELATED TO CONTAMINANTS OF ANY KIND IN THEIR DIESEL FUEL. WE ARE STUCK WITH A $6,000 BILL FOR A DEALER-MAINTAINED CAR THAT HAS ~83,000 MILES ON IT AND IS JUST OVER 3 YEARS OLD, IN ADDITION TO THE FRIGHT OF A VIOLENT LOSS OF THE VEHICLE'S POWER, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR

ON WEDNESDAY 5/22/13 I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 VW JETTA TDI AT ABOUT 45MPH WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, AND ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP CAME UP ON MY DISPLAY. THE CAR LOST POWER AND WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE CAR AND CALLED MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. (WARNING IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR NO MATTER WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS!!!!!) THE VW DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WHERE ORANGE AND NOT RED. THE CAR HAD VERY LOW POWER WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EVENTUALLY DIED. I THEN TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 DAYS GOT THE DREADED CALL THAT THE HPFP(HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP) HAD FAILED AND SENT METAL SHRAPNEL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM . VW IS TELLING ME THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $7,000 TO FIX WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD SINCE VW IS VERY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS COVERED THE COSTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT THAT A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80K MILES ON IT SHOULD HAVE A REPAIR COST THIS HIGH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE WITHIN THE EXHAUST CONTROL MODULE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE EXHAUST MODULE UNDER THE WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE FAILED AGAIN. A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE IN THE EXHAUST SENSOR WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE EXHAUST EMISSION GATE TO OPEN OR CLOSE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE EXHAUST FLAP DOOR WAS LUBRICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

MY 2009 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI HAS EXPERIENCED A DISTURBING NO-START CONDITION SEVERAL TIMES. CRANKING THE ENGINE DID NOT RESULT IN A START. ONLY AFTER REPEATED CRANKING (5-10 TIMES) DID THE CAR ACTUALLY START. FIRST IT WOULD NOT START SEVERAL TIMES, THEN START AND DIE IMMEDIATELY, AND FINALLY START, RUN VERY ROUGH,AND THEN SMOOTH OUT ITS IDLE. THIS ENTIRE SEQUENCE (WHICH HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH, TO VARYING DEGREES) OCCURRED IN THE DECEMBER-JANUARY TIME FRAME, WITH THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRING WHEN TEMPS WERE RIGHT AROUND FREEZING, WITH PRECIPITATION (RAIN-SNOW MIX) AND HIGH HUMIDITY. AT LEAST 2 TIMES, THE VEHICLE SIMPLY DIED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING, WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE AND REVS DROPPED DOWN TO IDLE. IN ADDITION, THE CAR HAS DISPLAYED A SOLID CHECK ENGINE AND FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT, WHICH HAVE COME AND GONE SEVERAL TIMES (INTERMITTENTLY: ONE DAY THEY WILL BE ON, THE NEXT DAY NOT). THE LAST SYMPTOM TO REPORT IS A P0638 OBDII CODE (THROTTLE BODY OUT OF RANGE). THIS CODE, HOWEVER, COULD BE A FALSE INDICATION THAT IS RELATED TO THE NUMBER OF FAILED ENGINE START ATTEMPTS? I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE A STRONG INDICATION TO SUSPECT, AFTER RESEARCHING OTHERS' EXPERIENCES ON SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS, THAT THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE ACCUMULATION OF WATER AND/OR ICE IN THE INTERCOOLER, WHICH THEN EITHER BLOCKS THE AIRFLOW OR BECOMES INGESTED INTO THE INTAKE. MY SYMPTOMS ARE CONSISTENT WITH THOSE REPORTED IN THE VOLKSWAGEN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) # 21 11 06 / 2025464 - FROZEN AIR CHARGE COOLER. MY VW JETTA HAD SAT FOR A FEW DAYS IN A INDOOR PARKING SPACE IN THE MIDWEST DURING WINTER DECEMBER TO BE EXACT. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, IT STARTED WEAK, THEN GAVE AN ERROR ON THE DISPLAY OF "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP.". THE CAT CONTINUED TO DRIVE, BUT LACKED POWER AND SEEMED TO SURGE. AFTER I RETURNED HOME, I DISCONNECTED THE LOWER INTERCOOLER HOSE TO FIND A LARGE ICE FORMATION AND WATER RESTRICTING THE OUTLET OF THE INTERCOOLER. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE AND IS CAUSED.BY THE EXHAUST GASES AND WATER VAPOR FREEZING IN THE INTERCOOLER. EVERY VW WITH THIS STYLE INTERCOOLER SETUP HAS POTENTIAL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED DO TO ITS SEVERITY. ALSO, THERE IS A TSB ALREADY WRITTEN FOR THE "FIX". THIS FAILURE CAUSED METAL SHAVINGS TO BE DISPERSED THROUGHOUT ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. I'M TOLD THAT THE HP FUEL PUMP, LOW AND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL REGULATORS, AND TANK FUEL PUMP ALL MUST BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A COMPLETE REMOVAL AND CLEANING OF ALL FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS. THE FUEL RAIL, INJECTORS, PUMP, TANK, AND ALL LINES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AS THE RESULT OF THE PUMP FAILURE CAUSED BITS OF METAL FLAKES TO CIRCULATE ABOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM.
