THE VIN'S NEED TO BE RE-EVALUATED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE CAR JUST COMES OUT OF GEAR & STOPS -- NO WARNING!! HAD DROVE THE CAR LITTLE WHILE, THEN MADE A STOP, CRANKED THE CAR TO LEAVE AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS LOW ON OIL, THAT KIND OF. TAPPING SOUND. OIL WAS FINE. BUT THE SOUND STILL THERE THE NEXT DAY. AFTER DRIVING IT A MILE OR TWO. IT GOT LOUDER, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AT THE CLOSEST PART STORE ABOUT 5 MIN AFTER THE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY CHECKED IT WITH THE SCANNER. SAID IT WAS A KNOCK SENSOR CODE. P0328, BANK 1.TOOK IT TO VW. TO GET A DIAGNOSITS DONE. AND THE MAN SAID IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL. THE PROBLEM I WAS HEARING, AND THE CODE. WAS FROM THE RECALLED PART. THEY CHANGED THAT PART. SAID IT WAS A FUSE PANEL ON ENGINE BLOCK. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THE SAME. THEN, HE SAID IT WAS NOT DUE TO THE RECALL. AND I STILL HAD TO PAY THE 120 DOLLAR FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. AND SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO CHECK ANY FURTHER, AND THAT THE LABOR WOULD BE ABOUT 2000 DOLLARS. I HAD TOOK IT BY VW BEFORE IT STARTED TO HAVE ANY NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS.WHEN I HAD HAPPENED TO LOOK UP RECALLS ONLINE. THE MAN LOOKED IT UP BY MY VIN. TOLD ME THERE WERE 3 ACTIVE RECALLS. BUT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER WEEK BEFORE THEY COULD GET TO IT. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE OK TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT, WAS ANY OF THEM SERIOUS ENOUGH TO NOT. HE TOLD ME , NO, THAT IT WOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE. SAID SPECIALLY SINCE I WASENT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS ALREADY .

3 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING MY PRE-OWNED VEHICLE IN MAY 2019, SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT OF THE ENGINE ON MY WAY TO WORK. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS BROKEN ENGINE HOSE CLAMPS. THE SHOP CHARGED ME ALMOST $700 FOR BRAND NEW HOSE ASSEMBLIES AND CLAMPS. ALSO, MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING INTERMITTENTLY AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.

FRONT SUSPENSION KNOWN TO MAKE CRUNCHING SOUNDS WHEN GOING OVER MAJOR BUMPS WHEN COLD.

I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. I STARTED MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE ENGINE MADE A METALLIC RATTLING SOUND AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON UNTIL REACHING THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING "JUMPED TIME" DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. UPON PICKING UP THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS LATER AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THE METAL RING HOLDING THE TENSIONER LATCH IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF; ALLOWING THE TINY ADJUSTABLE LATCH TO FALL OUT, AND THAT BOTH PIECES WERE LYING, LOOSE, IN THE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN APART. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 15-12-01. A WEB SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON AND AFFECTS MULTIPLE YEARS AND MODELS OF VOLKSWAGEN AUTOMOBILES. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 49,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE AND NEVER MISSED A SERVICE. VW WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. *TR

HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL VW 37E3/S7 FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V-333. PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING MY VIN NUMBER TO THE VW RECALL. I WILL CONTACT VW AND REQUEST THE SAME.

CAR WAS RECALLED ONCE FOR THIS ISSUE AND "FIXED" BY VW AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE AND VW IS TURNING THEIR HEADS TO IT.

VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MECHATRONIC UNIT. AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL AS WELL. THERE IS STILL NO FIX OR CHANGE. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 120,000 MILES.

THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION BROKE CAUSING THE CHAIN TO BREAK OFF AND BEND SEVERAL VALUES CAUSING EXTENSION DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. MOST CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH TIMING BELTS BUT VW WENT TO THE TIMING CHAIN IN RETURN THE TENSIONER WHICH THEY LATER REVISED IS FAULTY AND BREAKS CAUSING THE CHAIN TO DESTROY SEVERAL IMPORTANT PARTS. VW IS UNWILLING TO HELP US WITH THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE THEY LATER CORRECTED IN THE LATER MODELS. I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE BUT BECAUSE THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AT 60,000 IS EXPIRED THEY WILL DO NOTHING. THERE IS A HUGE FORUM STARTED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS USE AROUND 80-110,00 MILES!! I AM OUTRAGED AND HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR ALL THE DAMAGE OR BASICALLY GET A NEW CAR. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS AT THIS POINT.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A 120,000 MILE SERVICE AND DIAGNOSE THE DASH ENGINE LIGHT AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP I SMELLED DIESEL. I DROVE IT 13 MILES, WHEN I GOT HOME I SMELLED DIESEL AGAIN. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS DIESEL ALL OVER THE LEFT ENGINE SIDE. THERE WAS A WET, SPLIT FUEL LINE, LEAKING FLUID IN THE PARKING LOT, A BLUE PLASTIC SET SMALL RINGS (LIKE THE OLYMPIC SYMBOL) SAT NEAR THE SPLIT HOSE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, AND OTHER CARS TO BE IN DANGER FROM SLICK ROAD, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, AND MY ENGINE STALLED. THIS CAME WITHOUT WARNING FROM THE ALERT SYSTEMS. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS, AND MY CAR WAS IN THE MILEAGE AND AGE LIMITS. THEY SAID THEY WOULD TEST MY FUEL, AND IF IT HAD A TRACE OF GASOLINE IN THE DIESEL ENGINE, THEN THE EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WOULD BE VOIDED. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED NO TRACE OF GASOLINE, BUT THEY STILL REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS COST ME OVER $4000. THIS IS IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEMS REPORTED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11003.

I RECENTLY REPLACED THE DMF (DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL) IN MY CAR. IT WAS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE, AS A FAILED FLYWHEEL IS A HAZARD. THE FLYWHEEL WAS FAILING TO THE POINT WHERE IT COULD BE HEARD RATTLING WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING. THE FLYWHEELS CAN FAIL UNEXPECTEDLY AT ANY TIME OR SPEED, POSSIBLY CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION, AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A SUDDEN, UNCONTROLLABLE STOP. RESEARCHING ONLINE SHOWS THIS PART IS PRONE TO FAILURE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. VW HAS DONE NOTHING OF THE SORT.

WE HAD THE TRANNY SERVICED PER THE VW MANUAL AT A LITTLE OVER 40,000 MILES AND THAT DID NOT HELP THE CAR. NOW, THE CAR TENDS TO DOWNSHIFT WHILE COMPLETELY STOPPED, STILL SLAMS/JERKS INTO GEAR, ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHEN YOU PUT IT IN PARK AND ROLLS BACKWARDS SEVERAL FEET WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE FROM REVERSE (IN OUR SLOPED DRIVEWAY.) THIS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST, BUT NOW YOU HAVE TO "POWER" BRAKE THE CAR TO ENSURE YOU DON'T ROLL BACK AND HIT THE OTHERS IN OUR DRIVEWAY. SINCE I WAS GETTING NO WHERE, I FINALLY CALLED AN OPENED A CASE WITH VW CUSTOMER CARE. THIS TIME WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND REFERENCED MY CASE NUMBER. THEY CHECKED MY CAR OUT TODAY AND SAID THEY ORDERED A NEW MECHATRONIC UNIT. THE SERVICE BULLETINS SHOWED THE EXACT SYMPTOMS THAT MY CAR WAS DOING, BUT WE NEVER GOT ANY HELP. THE KEY MUST BE CYCLED TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK TO START TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT ONCE SHUT DOWN, THERE IS A BRIEF DELAY BEFORE THE ECU WILL ENGAGE THE STARTER, LEAVING THE DRIVER OF A STALLED VEHICLE IN POSSIBLE HARMS WAY, WITH THE KEY IN THE START POSITION WAITING FOR THE ENGINE TO RESTART. DISCUSSION OF THIS PROBLEM IS OFTEN OBFUSCATED BY SHAME, DENIAL AND RECRIMINATIONS ABOUT DRIVERS ABILITY TO ADEQUATELY OPERATE A MANUAL TRANS AND CLUTCH. IF THIS OCCURS WITHIN A TURN IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION IS STALLED DUE TO THE LOWER GEAR. PANICKING, ONE SHIFTS THE VEHICLE INTO 2ND AT THE HIGH RPMS AND THE TRANSMISSION JOLTS UNDER THE POWER AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SURGE FORWARD RAPIDLY UNDER POWER. I JUST READ THAT SOME VW'S ARE BEING RECALLED FOR A DSG TRANSMISSION DEFECT; I HAVE A 2009 JETTA SPORTSWAGEN THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE DSG AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCED HESITATION AND A PERCEPTION OF STALLING WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. USUALLY WHEN I AM TAKING OFF FROM A QUICK STOP, THE CAR WILL HESITATE ALMOST AS IF IT WERE STALLING; USUALLY I LIFT UP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND WHEN I REAPPLY IT, THEN THE CAR WILL MOVE. I HAD THE VW DEALER LOOK AT THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS OF THE TRANSMISSION GEARING AND THAT SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T "KNOW" WHAT GEAR TO CHOOSE TO MOVE FORWARD; THEY RESET THE TRANSMISSION MODULE SO THAT IT WOULD "RELEARN" MY DRIVING STYLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM IN THAT IF YOU'RE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, AND THE CAR HESITATES OR "STALLS" THIS CAN BE HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC. THEREFORE, I ASK THAT YOU LOOK INTO A SIMILAR TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH THE NON DSG AUTO TRANSMISSIONS ON THE JETTA. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT IS UNWILLING TO FIX IT SITTING THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY EXAMINE THE PROBLEM 24 HOURS BEFORE I INCUR CHARGES FOR THE LOANER VEHICLE. SO FAR NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE BEYOND ATTEMPTS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED A NEAR ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN IT OCCURRED WHILE THE ENGINE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. THE DEALER FOUND THE MECHATRONICS UNIT FAILED AND SPENT 3+ WEEKS TO REPAIR. THE SAME DAY I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES TWICE. CAR WAS IN PARK, ENGINE IDLING, CHILD EXITED CAR, I PUT FOOD ON BRAKE, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, WHEREUPON THE CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL MODE, AND THE LIT GEARS INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, WHILE THE GREEN DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE RACED AND SUDDENLY RE-ENGAGED REVERSE, LURCHED BACKWARD ALMOST STRIKING PASSING CAR. ON THE 4TH WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON A SMOOTH HIGHWAY, BETWEEN 50-55 MPH, WHEN SUDDENLY CAR SLIPPED INTO A NEUTRAL MODE WHILE REMAINING IN DRIVE ON THE GEAR SELECTOR. AS THIS HAPPENED THE ENTIRE GEARS INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED BLINKING RAPIDLY AND THE DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE STARTING LIGHT CAME ON TOO. ENGINE RACED TO REDLINE AND CAR SLOWLY COASTED TO A STOP. WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2009 VW JETTA 2.0TSI WITH A DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) TRANSMISSION. THIS TRANSMISSION IS JUST LIKE A STANDARD CLUTCH TYPE STICK SHIFT BUT WITHOUT A CLUTCH PEDAL. ON BOARD COMPUTERS DEPRESS THE CLUTCH FOR THE DRIVER INSTEAD. THE DRIVER HAS A CHOICE OF SELECTING THE GEARS THEMSELVES (TIP MODE) OR CHOOSING A 'D' FULLY AUTOMATIC MODE. WE PREFER FULL AUTO MODE. WE LOVED THE WAY OUR CAR DROVE UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN WE FELT THE CAR SURGE, PAUSE, AND THEN SURGE AGAIN AS WE ACCELERATED FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE TACHOMETER INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING ERRATICALLY WITHOUT ANY RHYME OR REASON, AS IF IT HADN'T EVER LEARNED HOW TO SHIFT GEARS PROPERLY. BUT THE ERRATIC ACCELERATION DIDN'T REPEAT ITSELF AT THE NEXT LIGHT OR THE NEXT ONE EITHER. WE DISMISSED IT AS A FLUKE. BUT OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS THIS CONDITION REPEATED ITSELF UNTIL IT GOT SO BAD IT WOULD TAKE A LONG PAUSE BETWEEN GEARS THEN SURGE AHEAD WITHOUT CONTROL! WE FEARED DRIVING IT SO MUCH THAT WE STOPPED AND CONTACTED OUR DEALER THAT MONDAY. WE ALSO GOOGLED 'DSG PROBLEMS' AND WERE ASTONISHED AT WHAT WE SAW, AND READ! WE WEREN'T ALONE. SOME HAVE HAD NEAR COLLISIONS WHILE OTHERS WERE LEFT STRANDED. IT APPEARS THE 'BRAINS' OF THE DSG IS AT FAULT. WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI WITH DSG TRANSMISSION 65 MPH ON FREEWAY, CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 1175 MILES ON IT, SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL THOUGH WAS STILL IN DRIVE. THE GEAR INDICATOR LIGHTS FLASHED AND NO ACCELERATION RESPONSE WHEN ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED. GEAR RE-ENGAGED APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS LATER AND WAS ABLE TO REGAIN SPEED WITH NO INCIDENT. TOOK INTO VW DEALER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE, BUT CALLED VW TECH AND WERE TOLD TO REPLACE THE INPUT TEMPERATURE SENSOR ON THE TRANSMISSION. SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK 5 DAYS LATER. APPEARS TO BE RUNNING FINE, NO REPEAT OF "FALSE NEUTRAL" IN THIS CASE, THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY, BUT SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ON THE INTERSTATE IN TRAFFIC COULD VERY EASILY LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR

THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT POWER WAS NOT REGAINED SHORTLY AFTER LOSING POWER. THE FRUSTRATING THING IS THAT I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER EARLIER IN THE WEEK COMPLAINING THAT A SIMILAR INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED THE PREVIOUS WEEK WHERE I HAD LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS BUT THAT I HAD REGAINED IT AFTER 5-10 SECONDS. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR AND THAT NO "ERRORS" SHOWED UP IN THE COMPUTER HISTORY FOR THE VEHICLE. THEY BASICALLY SAID THAT SINCE THERE WERE NO BULLETINS PUT OUT BY VW THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE ERROR OCCURRED AGAIN. THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON A SATURDAY, ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY I CALLED VW CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED, THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC MADE THE RECOMMENDATION TO HAVE THE CLUTCH REPLACED, VW AGREED TO HAVE IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER THE NEW CLUTCH IS BEGINNING TO SHOW THE SAME SIGN OF FAILURE THE CAR HAS ONLY 6500 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HEARD FROM OUTSIDE SOURCES THAT MAIN CAUSE COULD BE THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF OWNERS. *TR
