7/6/13 AC NOT WORKING AT ALL. ALL MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE AC-COMPRESSOR AND DRIER- WERE REPLACED 7/18/2013 BY VW. AC WORKED FINE FOR REST OF 2013 SEASON. MAY 2014 DELAYED/INTERMITTENT COOLING IN LAS VEGAS, NV. 6/18/14 TOOK TO VW IN HENDERSON, NV AND TOLD THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM. WARRANTY IS 12 MONTHS/12K- 16+K MILES PUT ON CAR BY THE TIME I TOOK IT TO VW IN 6/14-THEREFORE NO WARRANTY. VW RECHARGED SYSTEM AND COOL/COLD AIR BLOWING WHEN TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS UNDER 105 DEGREES. WHEN OUTSIDE TEMP IS 105+DEGREES- AC CUTS IN AND OUT-2 MIN ON/10 OFF/REPEAT. TOOK IT TO VW SERVICE FOR AC DIAGNOSTIC ON THURS 8/7/14 AT 10AM AND GOT THE CAR BACK 8/8/14 AT 4PM. VW SAYING THAT THE WHOLE AC UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED-AC COMPRESSOR, DRIER, CONDENSER, RECEIVER, ACCUMULATOR. VW OF AMERICA WAS CONTACTED AND REGIONAL MANAGER WILL NOT ASSIST WITH COST OF REPAIR-$2300. REASON: THE CAR HAS 93K MILES ON IT. AN AC SYSTEM SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 3 1/2 YEARS (CAR BOUGHT 12/09) AND THEN WHEN MAJOR COMPONENTS REPLACED-AC COMPRESSOR- THEY SHOULD LAST LONGER THAT 10 MONTHS REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY MILES WAS PUT ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD WHAT APPEARS TO BE A FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE. I WAS TURNING LEFT AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. I WAS TRAVELING AT @20 MPH. 100 YARDS DOWN THE BLOCK, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AS DID THE DIESEL COIL ICON. THE CAR WAS DEAD INSTANTLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO GRADUAL FAILURE, NO TIME TO GET OUT OF THE STREET. PLEASE NOTE, I HAD MY VEHICLE REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE VW DEALERSHIP, INCLUDING INSTALLING THE FUEL INTAKE COUPLING THAT WAS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL ABOUT A YEAR AGO. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS SOME BAD DIESEL GOING AROUND IN THE COUNTY WHERE I LIVE, BUT WHEN PRESSED ADMITTED THE BAD FUEL HAD NOT BEEN TRACED TO ANY PARTICULAR BRAND, BUT HAD APPEARED RANDOMLY. HE DID SAY THAT MY ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD BE REPLACED ON VW'S DIME, EVEN THOUGH I AM LONG OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THAT IT COULD TAKE 2 DAYS TO A WEEK TO PERFORM THE SERVICE. THERE IS NOTHING ON VW'S WEBSITE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, NOR ARE THERE REPORTS OF BAD DIESEL FUEL IN THE COUNTY. THE BLOGOSPHERE HAS REPORTS OF PROBLEMS IN THE DESIGN OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT CAUSES IT TO BREAK DOWN AND SHED BITS OF METAL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPENED AT 20 MPH ON A TOWN STREET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MORNING AND NOT AT 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY WITH LOTS OF TRAFFIC. I AM GLAD VW IS COVERING THE COST OF REPAIRS. BUT I HAVE PERSONALLY RECOMMENDED THIS OTHERWISE TERRIFIC CAR TO MANY PEOPLE, SOME OF WHOM HAVE CHOSEN TO BUY IT. I AM NOW WORRIED THAT SOMEONE MIGHT GET DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE VW IS EVIDENTLY ONLY CORRECTING THIS DESIGN PROBLEM AFTER AN ENTIRE SYSTEM FAILURE. VEHICLE STALED OUT WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER, WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD CAR TOWED TO VW DEALER, AND IT TOOK 8 DAYS FOR THEM TO FIX. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND CONTAMINATED THE WHOLE SYSTEM. IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY BUT I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. IF THE 2010 JETTA WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY IT WOULD HAVE COST $4660.22 TO FIX IT.

I WAS AT A LIGHT IN FIRST GEAR AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGH. (NOT THE FIRST TIME, BUT VW COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG). THE RPM ON IDLING IS NORMALLY 800. IT WAS UP TO 1,000. IT SPUTTERED TWICE AND HICUPPED FROM 1000 TO 700 TO 1000 TO 700 IN THE PERIOD OF 3 SECONDS. MY CLUTCH WAS IN AS WAS THE BRAKE AND I WAS IN FIRST GEAR SINCE I WAS AT A LIGHT BUT AT A STANDSTILL. THE CAR SUBSEQUENTLY STALLED WITHOUT ME HAVING MOVED THE CAR. THE CAR RESTARTED AND I STILL DETECTED THE ROUGH IDLE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AREA. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND SENT AN ENGINEER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINE A CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE ENGINEER DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE LEAVES IN THE ENGINE, CAUSED BY RODENT INFESTATION, WHICH RESULTED IN THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FIRE AND DID NOT AGREE WITH THE ENGINEER'S FINDINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. DEALER IS GOING TO REMOVE THE FACTORY AIR INTAKE AFTER INSTALLING A NEW ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY AND CLAIMS THIS IS AN ENGINEERED FIX. DEALER ALSO SAID THAT VOLKSWAGEN IS WORKING ON SOME HEATER ADD ON IN THE POSSIBLE FUTURE. I SUSPECT THAT THE CURRENT FIX IS NOT A FIX AS THE TROUBLE WAS NOT WHEN DRIVING IT WAS AFTER THE CAR SET FOR A FEW DAYS AND ICE FORMED IN THE INTAKE. VOLKSWAGEN HAS IDENTIFIED THIS AS AN ISSUE WITH THE INTERCOOLER; THERE IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN THAT IS LETTING WATER INTO THE AIR PIPES WHICH IS COLLECTING AND FREEZING. THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC, ONE TIME WHILE CROSSING A LANE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC GOING 50MPH. VW DRAINED THE INTERCOOLER TWO WEEKS AGO AND SENT ME ON MY WAY BECAUSE THE PART IS BEING REDESIGNED AND IS ON BACKORDER. A WEEK LATER MY CAR FAILED SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY, STRANDING ME ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO MY DRIVEWAY. VW DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER CARE WERE CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND. MONDAY I HAD TO TAKE A TOW TRUCK RIDE 1.5 HOURS TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY'VE DRAINED IT AGAIN AND WANT ME TO PICK IT UP BUT HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE IS NOT FIXED. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND YET THEY WANT ME TO PICK UP AN UNREPAIRED CAR BECAUSE VW DOES NOT HAVE PARTS TO REPAIR IT. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER, HAVE NO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND HAVE COMPLETED ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE. SYMPTOM. SHORTLY AFTER STARTING CAR AND COMMENCING TO DRIVE, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND STALLED WITH JUST OVER 100 FT OF MOTION. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WITH SLIGHT HESITATION, THE ENGINE STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL DRIVING. IN THE FIRST OCCURRENCE (APPROXIMATELY 1/5/12), THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE AT WORK FOR 8 HOURS AND THE OUTSIDE TEMP WAS IN THE LOW 30S. THIS STALL OCCURRED IN THE PARKING LOT THE SECOND EVENT (1/15/12), THE CAR HAD BEEN IN THE GARAGE FOR JUST OVER 2 HOURS AND THE OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 20. INITIALLY THIS WAS MOST OFTEN ON A COLD START, WITHIN THE FIRST 5-10 MILES, BUT NOT CONSISTENTLY. IT MIGHT DO IT ONCE A DAY, ONCE A WEEK, OR ONCE EVERY TWO OR THREE WEEKS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM TO BE FUEL SYSTEM RELATED AND NOT TRANSMISSION. I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO DEALER WITH EACH SERVICE CALL (3 SO FAR, I HAVE 20K MILES TO DATE). DEALER INITIALLY SUGGESTED BAD FUEL AND TO BUY ONLY CHEVRON, BUT THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN FUEL SOURCE AND HESITATION, NO EVIDENCE OF WATER IN FUEL FILTER, ETC., AND I USUALLY PURCHASE CHEVRON FUEL. DEALER REPORTED BEING UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM WITHOUT "CODES". VEHICLE HESITATED AGAIN (11/25/11), WITHIN ONE BLOCK OF DRIVING AFTER 20K SERVICE. I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO DEALER, AND THEY WERE STILL UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE. DEALER HAS KEPT THE CAR AND CONTACTED VW USA TECH SERVICE, BUT REMAINS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AS OF 12/2/11. MY DAUGHTER PURCHASED THE SAME CAR 3 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT MINE AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM (30K MILES SO FAR), BUT HAS NOT STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION - YET. THIS IS NOT OUR INABILITY TO DRIVE A STICK TRANSMISSION - BOTH OF US HAVE OWNED DIESEL JETTAS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS FOR 10 YEARS PRIOR TO OUR RECENT PURCHASES. I CONTACTED VW USA AND HAVE RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE - UNLESS THEY CAN DIAGNOSE A SPECIFIC PROBLEM, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, BUT THEY DID SUGGEST GOING TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. VW DID PERFORM A FUEL LINE RECALL WITH MY LAST SERVICE, BUT THE HESITATION REMAINS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE WEB, BUT VW IS UNWILLING TO ATTEMPT ANY REPAIR WITHOUT A SOLID DIAGNOSIS. 2010 VW JETTA TDI WITH ROUGHLY 35,650 MILES. WHILE DRIVING UP THE ON-RAMP TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE, GLOW PLUG DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNED TO "CHECK ENGINE NOW." WITHIN 20 SECONDS, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, AND LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE (WITH DRIVERS FLYING BY AT 65+MPH AT 9:45PM). VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP. SERVICE REP CLAIMED "FUEL CONTAMINATION," WITH METAL SHARDS ALL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED ($10,000 REPAIR) WITH EQUIVALENT, NEW PARTS. ACCORDING TO VW SERVICE TECHNICIANS, THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED DESPITE VW'S KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM. AS A RESULT, "FUEL CONTAMINATION" COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THE CAR COULD SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. LUCKILY, BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT, THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF CONGESTION ON THE ROAD. HAD THIS HAPPENED DURING RUSH HOUR, THERE VERY LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. VW CLAIMS THE PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF THE POOR QUALITY OF AMERICAN DIESEL FUEL SUPPLY, SAYING THE TDIS ARE DESIGNED IN GERMANY TO RUN ON 100% DIESEL THAT'S FOUND IN EUROPE. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WHY ARE THEY SELLING GERMAN DESIGNED CARS IN THE UNITED STATES THAT DOESN'T HAVE FUEL SUPPLIES THAT ARE 100% DIESEL? CAR STALLED IN LEFT LANE BLOCKING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE DRIVER OF THE FOLLOWING CAR WAS ABLE TO STOP TRAFFIC ENOUGH TO ALLOW US TO PUSH THE DEAD VW OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT. LIGHTS AND RADIO STAYED ON. ONCE AGAIN I ROLLED TO A STOP, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY KEPT IT FOR AN HOUR AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR A WEEK THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE MY PROBLEM. THEIR COMPUTERS WERE HOOKED UP TO MY CAR AT THE TIME, AND SHOWED NO FAULTS. MY VW JETTA TDI STALLED WHILE COMING TO A STOP SIGN AFTER THE CLUTCH WAS DEPRESSED. IT DID THIS OCCASIONALLY DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. AFTER A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP AND A DOZEN OR SO INCIDENTS, THE CAR STARTED TO STALL MULTIPLE TIMES DURING A ONE HALF-HOUR COMMUTE. TWICE RECENTLY, ONCE ON MY WAY TO WORK AND ONCE ON MY WAY BACK, THE CAR STALLED TWO AND THREE TIMES RESPECTIVELY. IT EVEN STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS DEPRESSED. USUALLY, IT STALLS WHEN COMING TO A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN WHEN THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF GEAR. AT 12000 MILES, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES AND THEN REMAINED ON. THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER AND EGR VALVE WERE REPLACED WHICH IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. ALSO, AFTER MY 20000 MILE SERVICE THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE #4 EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR. BEFORE THE 20K SERVICE I HAD CALLED THE DEALER THE DAY I STALLED 3 TIMES AND REPORTED MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I WENT TO THE DEALER A FEW DAYS LATER, THURSDAY, FOR THE SERVICE AND THE LIGHT HAD GONE OUT BY THEN. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE ECM TO BE DONE IN ADDITION TO THE REGULAR SERVICE. I LEFT THE DEALER AFTER THE 20K SERVICE ONLY TO HAVE MY ENGINE LIGHT GO ON AGAIN AND THE CAR STALL AGAIN. SO I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THAT IS WHEN THEY CHANGED THE #4 EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR. IT DID NOT SOUND TO ME LIKE A PROPER FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AS I BELIEVE IT COULD BE EITHER AN ELECTRONIC GLITCH WITH THE ECM OR OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OR SOME FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM WHEREBY FUEL FLOW IS INTERRUPTED WHEN GOING FROM LOAD TO NO LOAD SCENARIOS, I.E. CLUTCH ENGAGED. ANYHOW, I STALLED AGAIN TWO MILES FROM THE DEALER FROM WHICH I HAD DRIVEN. THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT OR FIND ANY CODES RELATED TO IT. THEY WILL CALL VW AGAIN.

I HAD COME TO A FULL STOP AND WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT IN A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY. NO MISFIRING OR ROUGH MOMENTS BEFORE STOPPING, JUST A SUDDEN CUT OFF. I CANCELLED THE TOW. CAR IS RUNNING NORMALLY AGAIN. THIS SUDDEN STOPPING OF MY ENGINE HAPPENED ONE OTHER TIME WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 4000 MILES ON IT. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AS I WAS PULLING FORWARD AFTER JUST HAVING PUT IT IN DRIVE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND A FEW SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING, BUT ONLY FOR A SECOND. THEN IT RAN FINE. NO FURTHER MISHAPS UNTIL MAY 17, 2011 AT 17,500 MILES. I NOTIFIED VW OF THE MISHAP WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR IT'S FIRST CHECK-UP. VW SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED. I PURCHASED MY 2010 JETTA TDI NEW AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2009. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I'M A PRETTY CONSERVATIVE DRIVER AND ATTEMPT TO MAXIMIZE MY MPG. EACH DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SETTING OVERNIGHT AND IS COLD, I START UP AND DRIVE TO THE STORE, A 4 MILE DRIVE, THE ENGINE WILL PAUSE USUALLY WITHIN THAT 4 MILE DRIVE. SOMETIMES IT IS A SHORT JERK AND SOMETIMES IT IS A GREATER JERK. OTHER TIMES IT WILL HAPPEN ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME. BUT IT'LL HAPPEN ONLY ONCE UNTIL IT SETS AND COOLS OFF. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE WITH NO HELP. MY RESEARCH FINDS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH MAY BE THE ISSUE, BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TALK TO VW AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WILL CONFIRM OR DENY THIS. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE. IT HAS 6,500 MILES ON IT AND I'M HOPING TO GET IT FIXED BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE MILEAGE GETS HIGHER.

IE: IF YOU ARE SITTING AT STOP SIGN DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC, LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND YOU ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE QUICLKY, THE CAR WILL MOVE FORWARD SLIGHTLY AS IF IT STALLED, YOUR FIRST RESPONSE IS TO BRAKE QUICKLY, THINKING THE CAR STALLED, WHEN YOU REALIZE THIS IS NOT THE CASE, THEN ACCELERATE, THIS CAN CREATE THE SAME EFFECT, BECAUSE OF A PANIC SITUATION AND THE FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES, ALMOST CAUSING A SERIOUS T STYLE COLLISION. I ASKED THE DEALER AND HE CONFIRMED THAT IF THE DRIVER BRAKES AND ACCLERATES AT THE SAME TIME THIS WILL OCCUR. TO DEMONSTRATE THIS FURTHER, I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND THE CAR SEEMS TO "BRAKE AND LOSE ENORMOUS MOUNT OF POWER". I FEEL AS THOUGH A SAFTEY WARNING SHOULD BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE NEW OWNER OF THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE, SUCH AS A CAUTION STICKER THAT ANY DRIVER, ESPECIALLY THAT MAY HAVE BORROWED THE VEHICLE, WILL BE AWARE OF THE GRAVE CONSEQUENSES OF POWER BRAKING A VW. FUEL TESTS, BY AN ACTUAL FUEL LAB, SHOW FUEL IN THE SYSTEM MET ALL ASTM STANDARDS FOR DIESEL FUEL OILS. PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE MATERIALS WHICH COMPOSE THE FUEL FILTER/ WATER SEPARATOR HOUSING WERE APPARENT HOWEVER THEY WERE ATTRIBUTED TO "WATER" IN THE FUEL WHICH IS IRONIC BEING THAT IT IS A FUEL FILTER/WATER SEPARATOR. THE HPFP ( HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ) WAS MOST PROBABLY THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ENTIRE FAILURE. VW'S RESOLUTION WAS TO INVOLVE MY INSURANCE AS THE METHOD OF PAYMENT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM(TANK TO INJECTORS). IT HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS (6 OR 7) TIMES FOR THIS WARRANTY ISSUE, INCLUDING EXTENDED STAY PERIODS OF SEVEN AND TEN DAYS. FIRST THEY FAULTED MY FUEL, THEN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, THEN THEY HAVE DONE OTHER WORK AND REPLACED COMPONENTS, BUT CLAIM THEY CAN NOT MAKE THE CAR FAIL AS I HAVE REPORTED. THEY CLAIM TO HAVE ALERTED VW AND HAD A VW TECHNICAL ADVISERS LOOK AT THIS CAR. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANY ADDITIONAL WARRANTY WORK ON THE CAR FOR THIS ISSUE SINCE THEY CAN NOT DIAGNOSE IT. I HAVE KEPT A LOG OF THESE FAILURES SINCE MY LAST SERVICING. BETWEEN 10/22/2010 TO 3/12/2011 THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD 19 OF THESE FAILURE EVENTS. THEY USUALLY OCCUR WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 32 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY (28,500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER). ON A 40 DEGREE DAY I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 1 MILE. AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT STALLED. I HAD TO KEEP THE CAR IN PARK UNTIL THE LIGHT CHANGED, THEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE. I PURCHASED A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION JETTA-TDI AT THE END OF DECEMBER OF 2009. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS SINCE 1975, AND I WAS UPSET THAT MY CAR WAS STALLING EITHER JUST STARTING OUT IN FIRST OR IN THE LOWER RPM RANGE OF THE LOWER GEARS WHEN TURNING AND MOVING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS OR TRYING TO GO UPHILL WHEN THE RPMS WERE IN THE LOWER RANGE. KEEPING THE RPMS UP A BIT SEEMS TO HAVE HELPED, AS I AM NOT HAVING IT STALL AS MUCH AS BEFORE. I ALSO NOTICED WHAT SEEMED LIKE A SLIGHT HESITATION OR JERKING WHEN CRUISING . IT WOULD BE JUST FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND THEN BE GONE MY ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS PARALLEL PARKING ON A HILL. I WENT TO BACK UP A BIT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT MY CAR AND IT STALLED, ROLLING FORWARD INTO THE CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. DAMAGE WAS MINOR, BUT WAS SUBMITTED TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. AT THIS POINT I WAS JUST BLAMING MYSELF FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO ADJUST TO THE DIFFERENCE OF CLUTCHING WITH A DIESEL ENGINE BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO EXPLAIN IT. THEN A HEARD 2 RADIO REPORTS ABOUT THE COMPLAINTS BEING FILED. I CALLED VW OF AMERICA WHO LISTENED TO MY STORY. THEY TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO BE COMPENSATED FOR MY ACCIDENT, THAT I WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO HAVE HAD THE CAR TOWED IMMEDIATELY TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED. SHE SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE IT TO BE DIAGNOSED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. A WEEK LATER, I WAS COMING TO A STOP FOR A RED LIGHT AND THE RPMS BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL AND THEN IT WOULD COME BACK TO NORMAL RPMS. WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE IT WAS A LITTLE ROUGH, THEN SMOOTHED OUT. I CALLED VW OF AMERICA WHO RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. I AM WAITING FOR THEM TO RETURN MY CALL. I HAVE ALSO 3 INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH MY AM RADIO CUTTING OUT--ARE THE PROBLEMS CONNECTED?

SUCCESSFULLY STARTING AND DRIVING THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS OF BELOW FREEZING TEMPS AT 40MPH AVERAGE. PUT CAR IN 40DEG GARAGE OVERNIGHT. STARTED CAR IN THE MORNING IN GARAGE, IT RAN FOR ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS THEN STOPPED. RESTART ACTED LIKE DEAD BATTERY; HALF TURN OF CRANK, THEN NOTHING. SUSPECTING A DEAD BATTERY, I PUT A CHARGER ON AND TRIED AGAIN HALF AN HOUR LATER; STILL NO START, JUST HALF TURN THEN NOTHING. TRIED AGAIN ABOUT EVERY HALF HOUR FOR 3 HOURS UNTIL IT FINALLY STARTED, THEN IT SEEMED TO BE RUNNING ON 3 CYL FOR ABOUT 15-20 SEC UNTIL IT STARTED TO RUN SMOOTH. TOOK TO DEALER WHERE THEY TESTED BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM; EVERYTHING WITHIN SPECS AND NO CODES. THEY KEPT CAR OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT AT 20 DEGREES AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP THE NEXT MORNING. I INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE ON SEVERAL TDI FORUMS AND IT SEEMS THIS IS ATTRIBUTED TO ICE FORMING IN THE INTERCOOLER THEN THAWING WHEN WARMED UP. ENGINE WILL START NORMALLY UNTIL IT INGESTS THE WATER/VAPOR THAT SHUTS IT DOWN. SEVERAL OWNERS ARE REPORTING HALF CUP TO TWO CUPS OF WATER DRAINED OUT OF INTERCOOLER HOSES. SEVERAL OWNERS ARE REPORTING ENGINE EITHER SHUTTING DOWN OR GOING INTO LIMP MODE ON HIGHWAY AFTER ICE BLOCKS INTAKE SUFFICIENTLY. MOST ARE SUSPECTING THE LP EGR CIRCUIT THAT IS PUMPING MOIST AIR BACK INTO THE INTAKE/INTERCOOLER CAUSING CONDENSATION TO ACCUMULATE THEN FREEZE. I NOTIFIED DEALER WHEN THEY HAD THE CAR AND THEY DID NOT INVESTIGATE WATER IN INTERCOOLER AS REQUESTED. I SUSPECT THIS IS HYDROLOCKING THE ENGINE AND THAT SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR IF THIS CONTINUES DURING THE COLD MONTHS. SEVERAL FORUM MEMBERS IN CANADA ARE REPORTING THAT VW OF USA KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND IS WORKING ON A SOLUTION BUT NOBODY HAS SEEN ANYTHING YET. I WAS DRIVING ON A SECONDARY HIGHWAY GOING ONLY 30 MPH WHEN A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE ENGINE OFF, I PULLED OUT THE JETTA HANDBOOK TO RESEARCH THE MEANING OF THE WARNING LIGHT. THE LIGHT BLINKING WAS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT. AFTER THAT I CALLED THE VW 800 ROAD SIDE PROGRAM, A TOW TRUCK CAME AND TOWED THE JETTA TO THE DEALER. NOW THIS MORNING I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORM ME THE COST OF GETTING THIS NEW CAR FIXED WILL BE $6,800.00. WITH THAT INFORMATION I HAVE TO ASK WHY AND THE DEALERSHIP PROCEEDS TO SAY I HAVE "BAD FUEL". THE COMMENT BY THE DEALERSHIP TRIGGERED ALL TYPES OF RESPONSES. THE FIRST RESPONSE WAS PROOF I PUT THE RIGHT TYPE OF FUEL IN THE TANK WHICH I DID. NEXT I HAD TO GO AND GET A SAMPLE OF FUEL FROM THE FILLING STATION. AFTER THAT I DELIVERED A SAMPLE OF THE FUEL IN QUESTION TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR TESTING. AS IT TURNS OUT THE FUEL WAS OKAY. WHILE I AM RUNNING AROUND DOING ALL OF THIS MY WIFE FINDS OUT VIA THE INTERNET OF ISSUES THE JETTA IS HAVING WITH THE FUEL PUMP. KEEP IN MIND, AT NO POINT HAS THE DEALERSHIP GIVEN ME INFORMATION REGARDING A POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP ISSUE, WHICH WOULD BE A WARRANTY ISSUE, AKA NO COST TO ME! IT IS NOW 5:20 PM AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALERSHIP. NOW I HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE, IS THE DEALERSHIP TRYING TO DEFRAUD ME? AND IF SO THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.

2010 VW TDI JETTA SPORTSWAGEN CURRENTLY HAS 18675 MILES, HOWEVER, PROBLEM STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 5000 MILES. ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT LOSES POWER AND STARTING TO STALL WHEN IN 3RD/4TH GEAR AND BETWEEN 30 TO 40 MPH. AT TIMES IT IS LIKE A SMALL HICCUP AT OTHER TIMES IT IS QUITE SEVERE AND CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH VIOLENTLY - HAS LOCKED THE SEAT BELT UP WHEN THIS OCCURS AS I AM THROWN FORWARD HARD. OCCASIONALLY SAME THING WILL HAPPEN IN HIGHER GEAR, BUT PRETTY MUCH EVERY DAY IN 3RD OR 4TH GEAR. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND COMPLAINED ABOUT PROBLEM EACH TIME. RESPONSE HAS BEEN THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE AND CAN FIND NO PROBLEM. ON LAST SERVICE THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER SAID IT "MIGHT" BE CLOGGED. NO IMPROVEMENT - PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING. BUY MY DIESEL FUEL FROM THE SAME STATIONS ALL THE TIME AND THE SAME STATIONS I PURCHASED DIESEL FUEL FOR MY 2004 GOLF TDI WITH 150,000 MILES ON IT AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT CAR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTSWAGEN. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE SPEED RATE REDUCED TO 35 MPH. AN UNFAMILIAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE ENGINE EXHIBITED AN EXTREMELY LOW POWER RESPONSE DURING ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY ADVISEDTHE CONTACT NOT TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE FAILURE REOCURRED FIVE MILES LATER, FOLLOWED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE COIL AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE SPEED SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE DEALER SHOULD REPLACE THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,250.

BRAND NEW VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI HAS STALLED AT SPEEDS FROM 25-65 MPH WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING (NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES AND NO CHANGE IN DRIVING PERFORMANCE). THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES AT APPROXIMATELY 4K MILES. THE 3RD TIME THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED FROM A MAJOR EXPRESSWAY SINCE THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VW DEALER FOUND FAULT CODE P2146. THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR DURING TESTING AND SIMPLY CLEARED THE CODES WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A VW OF AMERICA TECHNICIAN WORKING REMOTELY. THE VW OF AMERICA TECH ADVISED TEST DRIVING 20 MILES AND RETURNING THE CAR TO US. THE CAR WORKED WELL FOR THE NEXT 5K MILES BUT HAS NOW STALLED RANDOMLY AGAIN TWICE WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NEARLY HIT TODAY AS THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AS I WAS TURNING LEFT. PRIOR EVENTS HAVE LED TO NEARLY BEING REARENDED ON 4 LANE HIGHWAYS WITH 2 ADULTS AND A 3 AND 5 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR AND I HAVE NEVER FELT THIS UNSAFE IN CARS I HAVE OWNED THAT ARE OVER 10 YEARS OLD. VW SEEMS TO THINK IT IS OK TO RETURN THIS CAR TO CUSTOMERS AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ME ANY INFORMATION ON THE FREQUENCY OF THIS OCCURRENCE IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HI, WE PURCHASED A 2010 VW JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR AND WITHIN THE FIRST 300 MILES IT WENT INTO A LIMP MODE WITH REDUCED POWER AND THE GLOWPLUG LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I LIMPED HOME AT HALF POWER AND PARKED IT. WHEN I WENT TO START IT TO SEE WHAT THE MILEAGE WAS THE CAR HAD NO PROBLEM. I MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THIS AND THEY BLEW IT OFF AS A FLUKE AND IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO CALL THEM. AT AROUND 750 MILES WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WERE PASSING A CAR WHEN THE CAR AGAIN WENT INTO A REDUCED POWER LIMP MODE AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT SINCE THE PERSON BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED US. I HAD TO VERY CAREFULLY PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT 10:00 PM. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AFTER WAITING 2 MINUTES AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. I CALLED MY DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO DROP IT OFF TELLING THEM I DON'T WANT IT BACK UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. THEY KEPT IT FOR TWO WEEKS AND DROVE IT AROUND PUTTING 500 MILES ON IT THAT THEY SAID WERE TROUBLE AND EVENT FREE. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WHEN THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC THEY FOUND THAT THE EGR VALVE WAS THROWING A CODE. THEY SAID THAT THEY CHECKED IT, CLEARED THE CODE AND THAT'S IT.
