2010 Jetta, manual transmission Key gets stuck in ignition and wont cut car off. Eventually got key out, ignition locked wont let key turn car on. This is a known vw issue with over 860 complaints on this exact issue between 2009-2013. VW refuses to do recall, even though this is a manufacturing parts issue.

ALL SYMPTONS OF VW RECALL NO. 37E3/S7 OR NHTSA 09V333000" TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. THE SELECTOR LEVER POSITION INDICATOR WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH. THE DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL INDICATOR LIGHT WILL BE ILLUMINATED, ALSO THE TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK IN A GEAR AND IT WON'T SHIFT. IN BOTH CASES, ONCE YOU STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN IF OFF AND CRANK IT BACK ON, THE PROBLEM WILL SOLVED.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM REGARDING THE MECHATRONIC UNIT FOR THE DSG GEAR BOX TRANSMISSION; ALTHOUGH, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE AS LISTED IN THE PROGRAM. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I REPLACED MY BRAKES WITH BRAND NEW BRAKES LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO AND STILL HAVE ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES. MY BRAKES CONSTANTLY LOCK, I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DO A HARDSTOP WITH THIS CAR FOR THE 4 YEARS I'VE OWNED IT. I'VE AVOIDED ACCIDENTS BY MOVING MY STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES BECAUSE MY BRAKES LOCK PRETTY MUCH EVERY TIME. IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK SEAT. I REPLACED THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND THE RADIATOR ON MY CAR 3 YEARS AGO AND MY CAR STILL JUMPS WHEN IDLE AND ALTHOUGH I CAN TURN THE IGNITION IT MOST OFTEN FAILS TO START ON THE FIRST TRY. I HAVE TO TURN IT ON TWICE FOR IT TO START. OFTEN TIMES WHEN I'M AT A STOP LIGHT IT SOUNDS LIKE MY CAR IS STRUGGLING TO STAY ON.

I HAVE THE 2010 JETTA TDI. THE MECHATRONICS UNIT HAS FAILED AND VW WILL NOT SELL PARTS FOR THIS TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT IS FAULTY. THEIR WORDS BUT THEY ALSO WON'T RECALL THE TRANSMISSION EITHER. TRANSMISSION SHOPS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO BUY PARTS FOR THIS TRANSMISSION FOR OVER 4 MONTHS SO VW IS VERY AWARE. THE ISSUE IS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO ACCELERATE SAFELY AT ALL TIMES. I WAS LEAVING A BUSINESS DRIVEWAY INTO A 5 LANE ROAD AND THE TRANSMISSION GOT STUCK IN 1ST OR 2ND GEAR. IT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO GO MORE THAN 32 MPH W/RPM'S OVER 3.5. SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE AT THE STOPLIGHT DID NOT WORK. I HAD TO USE THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL INTO THE NEXT PARKING LOT SAFELY. TURNING OFF THE CAR AND TURNING IT BACK ON ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO WORK AGAIN BUT I DO NOT TRUST DRIVING IT ON THE FREEWAY OR MERGING INTO HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE 2007-2009 RECALL AND I PURCHASED MY CAR IN NOVEMBER 2009 WITH A 2010 MODEL. I DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES W/MY TRANSMISSION UNTIL AFTER THE EPA FIX. I REPORTED TO THEM TWICE IT HAD ISSUES SHIFTING IN LOWER GEARS BETWEEN 28-32 MPH. THEY SAID WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND NOW 6 MONTHS LATER MY TRANSMISSION MECHATRONICS UNIT HAS FAILED. VW SAYS THEY WOULD COVER IT UNDER THE EPA FIX BUT ONLY OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. VW NEEDS TO RECALL THE TRANSMISSION SINCE THEY ARE AWARE IT IS 'FAULTY'. *JS

THE PORTION OF THE COIL OFFSET BEGAN RUBBING ON THE FRONT TIRE SIDEWALL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS LOCATED 5-7 MILES FROM HOME AND MY LOCAL VEHICLE REPAIR SHOP. DID RESEARCH OF THIS MODEL AND MODEL YEAR AND IT'S AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS CAR. IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T TAKEN CARE OF IT WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR DEATH. HOW MANY LIVES NEED TO BE IN JEOPARDY IN ORDER FOR THIS TO BE RESOLVED. MY KIDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO ME AND I WANT THEM TO BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE. THE LIGHTS ARE ALL CROSSED. THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL IS WEAKER ON THE DRIVER MIRROR. THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS SEEMED TO BE CROSSED. YOU TURN ONE OFF AND THE PASSENGER LIGHTS IN BACK COME ON. THE BLUETOOTH STOPPED WORKING. IT IS LIKE IT HAS A SHIRT IN IT. THIS IS WHILE DRIVING AS WELL AS STATIONARY IN CAR PORT.
WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL AND THE CAR ROLLS UNPOWERED TO A STOP. IF THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED TO "PARK" TO RESTART THE ENGINE IT IS THEN IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF "PARK" INTO NEUTRAL OR ANY OTHER GEAR. WHENEVER THIS IS HAPPENING VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS APPEAR ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL-EG. "LOW WASHER FLUID" AND "TRACTION CONTROL WARNING." IN TRAFFIC THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND TO GET TO AN "OUTSIDE LANE" MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE. TO LOSE POWER WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP SIGN AND HAVING TO COAST TO A STOP IN THE LANE ONE HAS JUST ENTERED IS VERY DANGEROUS. TWICE WHEN TURNING LEFT WITH A LEFT-TURN GREEN ARROW THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND I ROLLED TO A STOP, SHIFTED TO "PARK" TO RESTART THE ENGINE ONLY TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION "LOCK-UP" IN "PARK" WITH ME UNABLE TO PHYSICALLY GET THE SELECTOR LEVER INTO "DRIVE." THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED AT VW EVERY 10,000 MILES SINCE NEW AND AT 104,000 MILES I AM TOLD IT MAY NEED A NEW $7,000.00 TRANSMISSION. ON-LINE I SEE THAT THE "DSG TRANSMISSION " HAS BEEN RECALLED TWICE FROM 2006 TO 2016 FOR "SLIPPING INTO NEUTRAL." HOWEVER, VW CLAIMS THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE AND WHEN I DO A NTSC VIN SEARCH I FIND NO SUCH PROBLEM LISTED. MY NEAREST VW SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS 45 MILES AWAY VIA INTERSTATE AND CITY DRIVING AND I AM AFRAID TO ATTEMPT DRIVING THERE FOR A DIAGNOSIS. LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOPS ARE UNABLE TO SERVICE OR EVEN DIAGNOSE OR MEASURE THE FLUID LEVEL IN THE VW PROPRIETARY SEALED-UNIT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

WHILE RECENTLY DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE GEAR INDICATOR IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO FLASH AND THEN DISAPPEARED, NO LONGER REVEALING WHAT GEAR THE CAR WAS IN WHILE IN FORWARD MOTION, AND CAR BEGAN TO LOSE MOMENTUM WHILE DRIVING AND BEGAN SOUNDING AND MOVING AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL. UPON STOPPING THE CAR AND AGAIN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE FORWARD, THE CAR ENGINE REVVED AS THOUGH IN NEUTRAL. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THEY DROVE IT AND MENTIONED THE WIRING HARNESS LEAKING OIL/FLUID. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR AT THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD (MAY-NOV 2016) FOR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE, AS I KEEP THIS CAR IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAVE IT CHECKED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO PREVENT ISSUES FROM OCCURRING. DURING ALL THESE TIMES I HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL NOW, AS AGAIN, I WORK VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE DONE MUCH RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER AND HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH OTHER VW OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPRESSED HAVING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WHICH FALLS IN LINE WITH THE ISSUED RECALL ANNOUNCED AUGUST 20, 2009. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND IN PARK. I HAD TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ONLY OPTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM WAS TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COMPONENT.

THE VEHICLE HAS BEGUN EXHIBITING DANGEROUS RANDOM/UNINTENTIONAL SHIFTING INTO MUCH LOWER GEARS, OR POSSIBLY EVEN NEUTRAL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS UNDER LIGHT OR NO THROTTLE INPUT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THUS FAR. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25MPH, AND THE DSG TRANSAXLE DOWNSHIFTED/SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL FOR NO APPARENT REASON, ENGINE REVVING TO 4-5 THOUSAND RPM. THIS HAPPENED ROUGHLY FOUR TIMES BEFORE IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, ON THE HIGHWAY WITH SPEED CONTROL SET AT 58MPH. VEHICLE SHIFTED ALL BY ITSELF WITHOUT REASON, AGAIN REVVING TO 4-5 THOUSAND. THIS TIME IT HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL OPERATION. ADDITIONALLY, ONE MORNING I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP WITH COLD ENGINE/TRANSAXLE IN DRIVE, AND THE TRANSAXLE WOULD NOT UPSHIFT FROM LOW GEAR FOR ABOUT 3-4 SECONDS. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT I SUSPECT IT MAY BE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE ABS/ESP LIGHT FLASHED AND REMAINED ON, AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM, AND THEY SAID MY REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS FAILING. THIS IS THE ONLY INDICATOR OF ANY FAULT THAT I CAN TELL. WHEN THE CAR EXHIBITS THIS FAULT, I DO NOT NOTICE ANY FLASHING GEAR INDICATORS OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, EVERYTHING SEEMS NORMAL, EXCEPT THE ENGINE REVS HIGH ALL BY ITSELF. I DO NOT HAVE ANY PHOTOS OR VIDEO EVIDENCE OF THE FAULT AS OF YET AS IT'S VERY UNPREDICTABLE AND INTERMITTENT, BUT I WILL ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE THE PROBLEM IF I CAN IN THE FUTURE.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY CAR SHIFTED ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN HAD TO CROSS MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC AND WERE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. BROUGHT TO VW AND THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH MAKES NO SENSE. THEY SENT MY FAMILY BACK OUT WITH CAR ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME INCIDENT RECUR, THEY THEN TOWED BACK THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED WIRING HARNESS ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE EXACT ISSUE DESCRIBED IN RECALL 09V333000, BUT VW HAS STATED THAT THIS PARTICULAR VIN IS NOT COVERED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND A FORMAL INQUIRY SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED TO DETERMINE IF ADDITIONAL VINS SHOULD BE COVERED.

WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR INADVERTENTLY DISENGAGES THE DSG TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN NO POWER TRANSFER TO THE WHEELS. THE CAR ALSO DISPLAYS AN "ESP ERROR" (ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM) IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. ONCE THE CAR IS SHIFTED INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF, AND THEN BACK ON, THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED TEMPORARILY. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING AND POSES DANGER FOR THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS. THIS INITIALLY HAPPENED 2 MONTHS PRIOR AFTER A HEADLIGHT BURNED OUT AND THE BULB STATUS LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON. THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGEMENT EVENT OCCURRED ONCE OR TWICE BEFORE THE HEADLIGHT WAS REPLACED. AFTER REPLACING THE LIGHT BULB, THE TRANSMISSION ERROR APPEARED TO RESOLVE ITSELF. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE EVENT OCCURRED FOLLOWING THE FAILURE OF A VALVE STEM WITH TPMS SENSOR ON THE TIRE. THE REPAIR SHOP DID NOT HAVE ANY TPMS SENSORS IN STOCK AND REPLACED THE STEM WITH A RUBBER ONE. THIS RESULTED IN THE TPMS STATUS LIGHT BEING ON IN THE DASH. COINCIDENTALLY, WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS OF THIS, THE DSG TRANSMISSION /ESP ERROR RE-EMERGED. THIS TIME AROUND THE ERROR OCCURRED EVERY 5 TO 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. THIS DISENGAGEMENT HAPPENED DURING CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING AT VARYING SPEEDS. DISABLING ESP AND DRIVING IN MANUAL MODE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS LEAVES THE OCCUPANTS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING THROUGH CONSTRUCTION ZONES AND OTHER AREAS WITHOUT ADEQUATE SHOULDERS ON THE ROAD. VW DEALER HAD REPLACED ORIGINAL REAR BRAKES (PADS & ROTORS) ON 4/16/15 AT 104.734 MILES. VW CHECKED VEHICLE ON 4/28/2015 AND FOUND AN ERROR CODE 01315 IN THE ABS AND GATEWAY MODULES WHICH REPORTEDLY INDICATED INTERMITTENT NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE TCM; HOWEVER IT WAS FUNCTIONING AT THAT TIME. AND CLEARED COMPUTER AND SAID IF PROBLEM RETURNED MECHATRONIC UNIT AND TRANSMISSION WIRING WOULD NEED REPLACED. AT THIS TIME I ALSO NOTED NOISE IN BRAKES, AS IF THEY WERENT COMPLETELY RELEASING OR MAKING REAR BRAKES MAKING NOISE WHEN RELEASING BRAKE PEDAL. THE PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR UNTIL ABOUT 3,000 MILES LATER AND AGAIN VEHICLE DROPPED OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING AGAIN ON LEVEL ROAD AT ABOUT 35 MPH. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT VW DEALER SERVICE AND MECHATRONIC UNIT AND TRANSMISSION WIRING IS BEING REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE CONSISTENTLY NOTED TO VW SINCE 4,000 MILEAGE, PERIODIC SLIPPING IN LOWER GEARS, WHICH VW SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. WHEN THE CARS ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) SENSES THE CAR GOING DOWNHILL, AND YOU TRANSITION FROM THE THROTTLE PEDAL TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR BEHAVES AS IF YOU WERE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING & STAYING IN GEAR. THE NEXT MORNING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO A VW REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY FOUND A COMPLETELY BLOCKED INTERCOOLER, FULL OF ICE. DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT VW HAS A TSB TO CORRECT INTERCOOLER ICING, WHICH INVOLVES REPLACING THE ORIGINAL FACTORY UNIT WITH A NEW INTERCOOLER DESIGN. AS I LOOKED ON VW FORUMS, I FOUND THAT MANY DRIVERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR UNPREDICTABLE FAILURE DUE TO INTERCOOLER ICING. WHEN I REQUESTED VW CORRECT THIS DESIGN FLAW AT THEIR EXPENSE, THEY REFUSED, CLAIMING THE VEHICLE IS OFF WARRANTY. THE CAR'S GLOW PLUG CAUTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AN AUDIBLE CHIME SOUNDED AS THE RPM DROPPED TO BETWEEN 1000-1400 AND AN IMMEDIATE DECELERATION OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN APPROXIMATELY 100 METERS LATER. I HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO A GAS STATION IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED VIA FLATBED TO VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND SENT METALLIC SHAVINGS/MATERIAL THROUGH MY FUEL SYSTEM AND THAT THE REPAIRS WILL BE VERY COSTLY. RESEARCHING FURTHER REGARDING THE MATERIEL FAILURE REVEALED THAT THERE IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH HPFP FAILURES IN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF AND JETTA TDI VEHICLES. AT THIS TIME, I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS COSTLY REPAIR IS GOING TO BE COVERED BY VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA UNDER WARRANTY FOR A FAULTY PUMP. VW ADVISES THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO UNPREDICTABLE PERFORMANCE OF TURBOCHARGER ON ENGINE PERFORMANCE DUE TO FAILURE OF THIS SENSOR. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I PUT IT IN PARK. I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR BACK IN GEAR. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES. I CRANKED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND PROCEEDED ON TRIP. AFTER ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I HAD THREE MORE INSTANCES OF THE SAME ACTION. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO BRING THE CAR IN. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY DURING HIGHWAY TRAVEL (WHICH IS MOSTLY WHERE THIS CAR IS DRIVEN). LOSING POWER AT 70 MPH IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC WOULD NO DOUBT RESULT IN MULTIPLE INJURIES, PROPERTY DAMAGE AND MOST LIKELY DEATHS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED ON A GLOBAL LEVEL WITH VOLKSWAGEN.

2010 VW JETTA TDI WITH ROUGHLY 35,650 MILES. WHILE DRIVING UP THE ON-RAMP TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE, GLOW PLUG DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNED TO "CHECK ENGINE NOW." WITHIN 20 SECONDS, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, AND LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE (WITH DRIVERS FLYING BY AT 65+MPH AT 9:45PM). VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP. SERVICE REP CLAIMED "FUEL CONTAMINATION," WITH METAL SHARDS ALL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED ($10,000 REPAIR) WITH EQUIVALENT, NEW PARTS. ACCORDING TO VW SERVICE TECHNICIANS, THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED DESPITE VW'S KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM. AS A RESULT, "FUEL CONTAMINATION" COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THE CAR COULD SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AT A CRAWL (AS IF I ONLY LET OFF THE BRAKE) EVEN THOUGH THE PEDAL IS PUSHED TO APPROXIMATELY 20% THEN WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE AS IF I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO 80% SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TIRES TO SLIP. THIS UNEXPECTED/UNDESIRED RESPONSE MAKES THE CAR APPEAR TO OTHER DRIVERS AS IF IT IS NOT PROCEEDING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHICH LEADS THEM TO START TO PROCEED AND THEN IT QUICKLY ACCELERATES. TO TRY AND PREVENT THIS I AM FORCED TO PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO 20% OR SO AND THEN QUICKLY REDUCE IT TO 5%. ADDITIONALLY WHEN SLIGHTLY LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR (LESS THAN A 5% CHANGE IN ACCELERATOR POSITION) WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AS IF IT WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL THEN WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. EACH DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SETTING OVERNIGHT AND IS COLD, I START UP AND DRIVE TO THE STORE, A 4 MILE DRIVE, THE ENGINE WILL PAUSE USUALLY WITHIN THAT 4 MILE DRIVE. SOMETIMES IT IS A SHORT JERK AND SOMETIMES IT IS A GREATER JERK. OTHER TIMES IT WILL HAPPEN ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME. BUT IT'LL HAPPEN ONLY ONCE UNTIL IT SETS AND COOLS OFF. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE WITH NO HELP. MY RESEARCH FINDS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH MAY BE THE ISSUE, BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TALK TO VW AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WILL CONFIRM OR DENY THIS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS SINCE 1975, AND I WAS UPSET THAT MY CAR WAS STALLING EITHER JUST STARTING OUT IN FIRST OR IN THE LOWER RPM RANGE OF THE LOWER GEARS WHEN TURNING AND MOVING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS OR TRYING TO GO UPHILL WHEN THE RPMS WERE IN THE LOWER RANGE. KEEPING THE RPMS UP A BIT SEEMS TO HAVE HELPED, AS I AM NOT HAVING IT STALL AS MUCH AS BEFORE. I ALSO NOTICED WHAT SEEMED LIKE A SLIGHT HESITATION OR JERKING WHEN CRUISING . THEY TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO BE COMPENSATED FOR MY ACCIDENT, THAT I WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO HAVE HAD THE CAR TOWED IMMEDIATELY TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED. WHEN I PURCHASED MY NEW CAR, THE SALESMAN AT VW OF LANGHORNE, PA, WAS CERTAIN THAT I WOULD "KILL THE CLUTCH" ON THE FIRST DRIVE AS HAD ALL OTHER PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED A MANUAL 2010 TDI. THE CLUTCH RESPONSE IS SOMEHOW DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER CAR AND AFTER ADDING THE "DIESEL TURBO LAG," IT MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS FIRST ACCELERATION. TO MY SALESMAN'S SURPRISE, I DID NOT STALL THE CAR WHEN I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. HOWEVER, I HAVE SINCE STALLED IT SEVERAL TIMES IN TRAFFIC. WHEN THE CLUTCH STALLS, DRIVER MUST COMPLETELY TURN OFF IGNITION AND TURN IT BACK ON BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CLUTCH-DRIVE AGAIN. I'VE HAD 3 AUTOMOBILES SINCE 1986 WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND DON'T RECALL A STALLING PROBLEM LIKE I'M HAVING NOW WITH MY VW 2010 JETTA TDI. IT STARTED WITH A TEST DRIVE AND A NUMBER OF TIMES AFTER PURCHASE. I ASSUMED MY MOTOR SKILLS WOULD ADAPT AND THE PROBLEM WOULD BECOME LESS FREQUENT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, SPECIFICALLY AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A COMPLETE STOP, A ROLLING STOP, OR WHEN BRAKING/CLUTCHING HARD. THE COMBINATION OF THE DRIVEWAY, BUMP AND A TIGHT LEFT TURN MEANT THAT I HAD TO GENERATE RPMS INITIALLY, BUT THEN HAD TO TAPER DOWN IMMEDIATELY. MY FRONT WHEELS MADE IT OVER THE BUMP, BUT MY CAR STALLED AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO AT LEAST COAST MY REAR WHEELS OVER THE BUMP. ONCE IT KICKED IN IT TOOK OFF BUT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I NOW WAIT A SECOND OR MORE FOR THE BRAKE SWITCH TO COMMUNICATE TO THE DSG TRANSMISSION TO TELL THE CLUTCH TO ENGAGE. VW MUST FIX THIS AS I COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVEN IN A COLLISION. THIS WAS MUCH MORE THAN TYPICAL TURBO LAG WHICH IS COMMON WITH DIESELS. THIS WOULD OCCUR REGULARLY IF I DIDN'T ADJUST MY DRIVING TO ACCOUNT FOR THE LAG. *TR

THE VEHICLE WILL DOWN-SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. AT THE LAST INSPECTION, THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. A LETTER WAS SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,600.

I HAVE A 2010 US VERSION VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION. THE CAR HAS AROUND 4500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WITH THE CAR SINCE DAY #1. THE PROBLEM IS MANIFESTED AS A LURCHING, AND ERRATIC SHIFTING OF THE TRANSMISSION IN GEARS 1 TO 2 AS WELL AS FROM A STOP. EVEN THOUGH I DRIVE WITH A SOFT TOUCH, I CAN RARELY GET A SMOOTH START-OFF BECAUSE OF THE UNPREDICTABLE SHIFTING OF THE TRANSMISSION. I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING PRIORITY 1 WARNING LIGHT: "TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED: STOP! OWNERS MAN," AFTER STOPPING IN FRONT OF MY RESIDENCE TO RETRIEVE MAIL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A MONTH I HAVE RECEIVED THE WARNING (REFER TO ODI NO. 10283957 FOR INITIAL INCIDENT). I TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE VEHICLE HAD NO ACCELERATION IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE WHILE THE WARNING LIGHT WAS ACTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP AND IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING DIAGNOSIS. AS FAR AS THE INITIAL INCIDENT ON 9/13/2009, VW REPORTED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, THAT NO FAULT/ERROR CODES WERE FOUND. THEIR REMEDY WAS TO RESET THE BASIC SETTINGS AND ROAD TEST THE VEHICLE - THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS. I HAD THE VEHICLE BACK FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED. *TR

ON SUNDAY, SEPT. 13, 2009, WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70-75 MPH, MY 2010 VW JETTA TDI (AUTO. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING A MAJOR TRAFFIC INCIDENT. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE ENGINE OFF AND LETTING IT SITE FOR A FEW MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND HAD NO ADDITIONAL MALFUNCTIONS OR WARNING LIGHTS. HOWEVER, I DID MAKE AN EFFORT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE'S SPEED AT OR BELOW 70 MPH. BASED ON SIMILAR REPORTED INCIDENTS I RESEARCHED ON THE WEB, I CAN POSITIVELY CONFIRM THAT MY VEHICLE SWITCHED INTO NEUTRAL WHEN I RECEIVED THE WARNING LIGHT.
