The vehicle has had repeated issues related to the fuel system, including strong fuel odor inside the cabin, a gurgling sound coming from the fuel tank area, and recurring check engine lights shortly after a previous recall repair was completed. The most recent diagnostic from the dealer indicated a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor (G400), but I was initially told the vehicle needed a fuel pressure release valve. There has been inconsistency in the diagnostics and explanations provided to me. The fuel smell in the cabin and apparent pressure issues in the tank created a safety concern for me and my passengers, especially while driving with windows closed or using cabin heat. I am concerned about a potential fuel leak or improper tank venting. The problem has occurred multiple times, including at least five check engine lights after the recall repair. The dealer has inspected the vehicle several times, but the issue has not been fully resolved, and additional related parts (such as the tank shutoff valve) were recommended for replacement. Warning lights included repeated check engine indicators, and the fuel odor occurred each time the issue recurred. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
I've been having issues with my car since I bought it. I've taken the car in for the Power Train System, and the codes that come up are P0456 and P2421. This car has a mind of its own. I've driven it and it started lagging, and I went into limp mode just crossing a 2 way stop with ongoing traffic. I don't understand how VW doesn't address this problem when I know that if anyone were in my shoes, they wouldn't have dealt with this, going to the dealership 3,4 times a year when I should only be going in frequently for oil changes. The dealership says after my warranty is over, I have to pay out of pocket, but I don't see why, when it's been an ongoing issue and VW needs to have an extended warranty, because I know I am not the only one with issues. Reddit has thousands of complaints about VW, but it's our problem that they couldn't produce a reliable car. The dealership has been aware of this for 4 years since I bought my car in June 2021. I have had the engine light come on every 3 -5 months since June 2021, and it's always the same when they replace a whole part. I have all the paperwork and all the information on what they perform on my car. I am a regular. citizen, and I only make around 30K a year, if I were able to, I would get another car, but I've literally invested 20K in this car, and it's ridiculous how unreliable and how I constantly have to worry if the car will work. I don't have a scanner, so I uploaded how many times I've been to the dealership for one car.
This statement is to formally document my ongoing and serious concerns regarding my 2022 Volkswagen Taos, which has been in and out of the Pasadena Volkswagen, California, service department for the past three weeks due to a persistent fuel smell and related fuel system issues. Despite the recent maintenance and attempted repairs, the vehicle continues to exhibit these dangerous problems. Most alarmingly, during a recent incident, the vehicle almost completely shut off while I was driving on the freeway. This is a critical safety hazard, and the safety of my family is paramount. I cannot accept driving a vehicle that poses such a risk of breakdown in traffic. Adding to my unease with the fuel issues is the fact that this specific vehicle has also previously required repair for seized rear brake calipers. Given the numerous reported complaints about the 2022 VW Taos model and the repeated, severe issues my own vehicle has experienced—from brake failure to dangerous fuel system problems—I am profoundly concerned about its reliability and long-term safety. The continuing issues make it difficult, if not impossible, to drive this vehicle without significant anxiety. I request an urgent and definitive resolution to these safety-critical fuel problems.
Stepping in the gas, the car takes about 4-5 seconds before it speeds up after each stop. When pulling out of a drive, the car sputtered and the check engine light was flashing and the Start/stop error came on. The delayed driving happens every time I drive the car. Only have about 44k miles on it. I have had multiple people almost rear end me. I have had the car for about 3 weeks now.
The car is telling me things are not available such as airbags, blind spot, the rear warning and the tire pressure monitoring system. As well as is has the fuel injector problem that VW has already extended the warranty on.
Filled my tank with gas. Got into the vehicle and started if and could almost immediately smell gas in cabin. Thought maybe I got gas the wasn’t good. Refilled twice with premium gas and smell did not go away and you could then smell it outside of the vehicle as well. Very strong, drive it to my VW Service Dealef to have it looked at then.
2022 VW Taos 2 instances of fuel level sensor failure. Fuel gauge reported 1/2 tank fuel level remaining when fuel tank was empty. In both instances the vehicle stalled without warning. 1) [XXX] - [XXX], fuel level sender float rod detached. 2) [XXX] - [XXX], Fuel level sensor malfunction. Both instances occurred while on state highways and car was able to be moved to the roadside safely. Had this occurred while on an interstate during heavy traffic, it is unlikely that the vehicle and driver could have been moved to safety. Dealer repaired both under warranty however, although requested, neither part was retained for customer inspection. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms before the vehicle stalled. Both repaired under warranty by Volkswagen of Wesley Chapel, FL INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
- The head gasket failed twice in less than one year on my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle also experienced a fuel pump failure, rear brake pad wear down to metal-on-metal, and the underbody panel detached while driving due to being improperly secured after a dealership repair. Yes, the components may be available for inspection upon request through the dealership. - The second head gasket failure resulted in coolant loss, which can lead to engine overheating and potential failure while driving. The underbody panel detached while I was on the freeway, posing a serious safety hazard to me and other drivers. The brake system issues, including vibration and scraping noises, raise concern about brake reliability and stopping ability. - Yes, all issues were confirmed and addressed by authorized Volkswagen dealerships: DeMontrond Volkswagen (Conroe, TX) and Momentum Volkswagen (Houston, TX). - The vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times by Volkswagen-certified service technicians. No inspections by police or insurance have taken place. - No warning lamps appeared before the head gasket failures. The brake issues were first noticed as vibrations in the brake pedal after a service visit, followed by scraping noises, which were later diagnosed as metal-to-metal contact. The underbody panel incident occurred suddenly after leaving the dealership.
Engine has ceased at 67000 miles a mechanics has searched my VIN id number and 3 recalls have come back but Volkswagen says they are not applicable to my vehicle. I’d like to confirm this if possible
The fuel door release actuator seizes up and does not release fuel door. This vehicle does not have a manual fuel door release, therefore if you run out of gas you are not able to manually open the fuel door.
FUEL TANK SENOSOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED WITHIN 2 YEAR OF OWNING VEHICHLE. DEALER SAYS THE WHOLE FUEL TANK NEEDS TO BE CHANGED
The radio system constantly blanks out and will not come back on for hours even after trying to turn it off and back on. There are major issues that point to the recalls that are known for the 2022 VE Taos however, there are no recalls for my specific vehicle. The vehicle check engine light is constantly on and there is constantly an issue with the fuel system. The Taos has issues with acceleration and shifting into other gears. The Taos now has a ticking sound and is at the mile range of (50,000- 60,000) which others who have complained about engine failures. This has been a current and ongoing problem with this vehicle and has cause a headache.
My Hose attachment for the fuel that leads into the engine was leaking and it could have started on fire, VW Schumacher failed to catch this, a local mechanic found this problem, my check engine light keeps coming on as well.
I have 44,000 miles on my 2022 VW Taos. The EPC warning light came on. Took it to VW dealership. It needed a “software update”, which was still covered under warranty
Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine? -Fuel Injection? -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have caused an accident or even caused irreplaceable engine damage. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center because it is random and once you shut the car off and the auto start/stop, it resolves the issue for a short time. I have called the dealer and I have called VW company to report the issue, but they both just refer me back to the other. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. No symptoms or warning lamps. The check engine light only comes on after the car stutters and struggles to accelerate for a few seconds, then it will flash on and off depending of if I am pressing the gas pedal.
Many fuel system issues along with poor brakes create an unsafe vehicle even after the dealership was given several attempts to fix.
Múltiple issues and ranging from brakes multiple times to check engine lights. Do not feel safe in this vehicle.
Fuel System: The car hesitates when you push the gas, and then will suddenly go with a jolt. That is unsafe as you are turning on to road and when you push the gas-you do not move for a few seconds which could cause an accident. There are no warning lights regarding this, however, lots of the same exact complaints for this model on the internet. Engine: The coolant goes low, and the dealership says it needs a new head gasket replaced, however, was told to continue to drive the car until the part comes in which is on back order for months. Electrical: Lights come on telling me that my tire is low, when tire is not low. My oil light came on saying to reduce the oil level. Dealership just turned the light off and called it good. I worry that something is wrong, but the car does not give accurate safe information. The carplay system has to be restarted all the time due to connecting issues, and map not working. Additionally, the car had to have rear breaks replaced at only 27,000k miles.
The car stalls and cannot propel itself forward. Two dealerships have unsuccessfully attempted to replace and fix the fuel injection pump, sensors and harnesses. The car has been to Palmetto 57 Volkswagen (Miami, FL) and Jim Ellis Volkswagen (Kennesaw, GA) dealer service centers 5 times since the car was purchased on October 7, 2023. Today is December 1, 2023. I've been told three times that the engineers at the VW National Headquarters have been informed of the problem and are working on fix. The car is still at the Palmetto 57 service center and cannot be driven due to lack of a repair solution.
When starting out from a dead stop there is a hesitation for about 1 1/2 second. If you press harder on the accelerator the vehicle surges forward. This also happens if you are on a highway and try to accelerate to change lanes or pass some other vehicle. I have been to my dealer three time for th same problem. The computer results claim BAD FUEL. I have tried all grades of fuel even though the vehicle is designed for 87 Octane. The service mgr suggested 94 octane, I also have gone to a different dealer as per VW customer service’s advice. Their service rep informed me that VW’s all models have this same problem. There was also an update installed which there was somewhat of a minor change but the problem is still there.
While driving the car threw a code for EPC and throttle became extremely un responsive. I had to limp to the side of the road and re start the car. The code is for “start/stop” this car has had many recalls and issues since I bought it. It feels extremely faulty.
This is on going issue with VW. Every time they update the emc the car gets worse. Car has hesitation, jerking and delayed throttle response which almost got me hit 2 times when changing lanes. You depress the gas pedal and car does not going anywhere. When maintaining speed and depressing gas pedal theres no response and then all of sudden it kicks in for the speed you wanted and if not that speed you were doing it jerks, downshifts. Makes transmission go nuts sometimes. When accelerating to get on highway and you depress pedal to floor it literally spins the tires after long delay. This was demonstrated to dealer who returned vehicle stating only occasion lag tech case# 3091845. This issues are very dangerous and someone will get hurt. This has been going on since car was new. It stopped for a year and after Campaign 24IR it messed car up again.
My rear brakes are metal to metal at less than 25,000 miles. Second issue when I im driving my car will not accelerate and the warning light comes up. I have to completely stop turn it off in the middle of the road and then it will start going. I called vw and they told me that they didn’t know what it could be. Maybe water got in a sensor. This issue has happened twice and it’s scary. Third issue my automatic braking will just brake when no one is in front of me almost causing someone to hit me from behind.
Serious lag in acceleration. This is very dangerous when changing lanes or entering traffic. It will suddenly lurch forward.
The engine lag is extremely dangerous. It takes 2-3 full seconds for the ending to engage at full throttle. The risk of an accident is severe due to the total lack of responsiveness.
My 2022 VW Taos suddenly began to lose acceleration and the check engine light and EPC light came on. Upon contacting the dealership, they said there is a recall on my car for the exact issues, however they do not have any parts to fix it and do not have an ETA of when it can be fixed. The safety recall states that if operating the vehicle while this issue is happening, it could result in a car crash. The dealership then suggested I could bring the car in for a diagnostic test but it would take 2 WEEKS MINIMUM to find out the results because they are backed up. With an unsafe car to drive, I asked the dealership if I could have a loaner car in the meantime since mine is unsafe to drive. They told me they don’t have any and to try contacting corporate for a voucher for a rental car. I contacted corporate and they had no idea what “voucher” I was talking about and said they do not do that. Now, I am in limbo with no vehicle, no way to get to work, and no timeline on when VW will have the parts for the safety recall.
The vehicle has a lag that keeps it from properly accelerating from a stop, it also seems like there might be an issue with the transmission because the vehicle will jerk back and forth when letting off of the gas like it is a manual transmission but it is an automatic transmission. It seems like the vehicle never knows what gear it should be in.
Vehicle when new was grinding brakes and smell like they were burning. brought to dealer no issue found. Vehicle did this numerous times like calipers were sticking and not releasing. Vehicle had excessive oil burn. 1/2 quart down with 1000 miles. Vehicle was over filled when brought back to dealer.. no warning light. Oil was change a 2nd time with no issues. Brought vehicle back to dealer on 2/16/23 for oil change. After 2 weeks oil light came on for excessive oil. brought back to dealer again for them to drain some oil out. Now having issues with filling car with gas. Pump keeps clicking off, which could be EVAC system. This car has only 9000 miles and shouldn't have this issues.
When coming to a stop the car stalled, max rpm 3000 warning fired with check engine light. Once restarted it bucked as if it was not getting fuel then stalled again. Dealer had just installed update 48 hours prior to this happening
I purchased this vehicle a year ago for my 17 year old daughter. The initial test drive through slow suburban streets was not sufficient to identify the major acceleration issue that has persisted while owning this car. There is a significant lag in response time when pressing the accelerator. It typically takes 1 to 2 seconds for the turbo to engage after pressing the accelerator. This only occurs when pressing the accelerator roughly half way or more (generally when you need to accelerate quickly to navigate approaching traffic). While only slightly pressing the gas pedal (less than half way), the car will accelerate as expected, but with very little power. Beyond the halfway point, the turbo will engage (approximately 1 to 2 seconds after reaching that point) causing the car to accelerate very quickly in a jerky manner - there is simply no in between. As an experienced driver, I am able to work around this flaw, but my daughter has had numerous incidents where she has nearly been caught in the middle of traffic performing left hand turns. We have taken the vehicle to the shop once already to address this concern but nothing was done or recommended to correct the issue.
There is a major lag in throttle response after slowing then attempting to speed back up. For example, a car in front of me turns right at an intersection while in travel so I slow down. After stepping on the accelerator to speed back up, it can take 5-7 seconds before there is any response. At times it’s long enough that traffic behind me starts honking.
While attempting to accelerate from a stop, my Taos began to shake, the check engine light began flashing, and the car felt as if it were going to stall. I pulled over, turned the car off, turned it back on, and the car was drivable. This occurred around 5,000 miles. The dealer confirmed multiple misfires and a high pressure oil leak. The parts were replaced. My taos has a terrible lag when accelerating. This is a constant problem. It barely moves then all of the sudden it will take off, causing the wheels to spin out and your head to hit the headrest. This is extremely dangerous and has almost caused multiple accidents for me. I took the vehicle in to service and they stated that the Emission pump valve was stuck open, causing it to drive badly. The pump was replaced at around 6,000 miles. The car continued to drive badly and at approx 7,000 miles, I was accelerating from a stop when the car began to shake again and would not accelerate. The check engine light began flashing and the start/stop error message appeared. I pulled over and turned off the car. I turned it back on and the engine light went off but the start/stop still did not work. I brought it to the dealer and they confirmed additional engine misfires. The dealer cleared the codes and advised me to use premium gas. The Taos is supposed to run on 87, not premium. There are multiple online forums for Taos Owners. A concerning amount of people have complained about these exact same issues with their vehicles and that VW's "fix" is to run premium gas. This vehicle seriously needs to be looked into, as it is posing a serious safety hazard to all involved.
I purchased my VW TAOS on Nov 26, 2021, and since then I have experienced faulty issues 4 times. 2022 Jul twice, Sep once, and Nov once. When merged to the main road the car refuses to accelerate and gives strange sounds in transmission/engine area. The first 2 times I had the issue with loss of power and significant lag in acceleration I could see the "start/stop error" message in the dashboard, and I had to pull over to the side of the road. I drove in the parking lot nearby for few minutes and continued driving when the engine seemed OK, but the automatic engine start/stop system failed to work on traffic lights when car fully stopped. I notified my local dealership about this issue and got an appointment for inspection in August. When examined they recommended changing my fuel to premium and explained that the fault was caused by the quality of gas I put. I followed their instruction and only been pumping Unleaded-91 Premium grade fuel for the last 2 months, but I had a more serious issue in mid-September. In the middle of traffic at 40mph speed a sudden loss of power occurred followed by a check engine light flashing. Again, I had to make an emergency stop from the second lane to pull over into the shoulder. When I notified this to my dealership, they recommended to get the car checked during my first oil change that was supposed to happen a month later because when I consulted with the operator, they said I should observe if the problem is going to reoccur. On 7th of Nov 2022, I got my oil changed for the first time at the dealership and drove my car for a while and it seemed fine. However, by the evening when I tried to drive it back home the same issue with worse noise in the engine area took place and car failed to accelerate in the middle of the traffic where I had to act quickly to pull over to the side of the road causing risky situation to other drivers on the road and myself. I am now convinced that this issue is never going to be fixed.
Vehicle has gone limp, almost like a stall, no matter how much the gas pedal is pressed. It happens for a few seconds and then it picks back up like normal. Check engine light and EPC light come on. Has happened pulling out of parking spot, at a traffic light, and in traffic. The first time it happened I took it to the local VW dealership where they told me I had water in my gas. Hard to believe as I go to a well known gas station and my other car gets the same gas and has never had this issue. I paid to get the car back, and drove it until the tank was empty. I've been adding higher octane gas like they recommended and it just happened again recently.
No acceleration. 2022 Taos SEL 4Motion. I was attempting to turn to left and I applied the accelerator pedal and got absolutely no response. I let off of the pedal and again attempted to accelerate also having no response the second time. By this time there was traffic and I had to wait. On the third attempt the vehicle responded. The incident was very unsettling. In addition to the above problem, which has only happened once, the acceleration is often delayed and sluggish. Accelerator inputs are inconsistent. The delayed and sluggish responses are often followed by very aggressive acceleration and hard shifts. It often seems there is either little acceleration or over enthusiatic acceleration. The vehicle is difficult to drive smoothly.
After a complete stop, acceleration is jerky. In that there is a 2-4 second delay than a burst of acceleration that causes the car to shoot forward. The car ran perfectly fine when we first bought it, since then a computer update was performed about 6 months ago. Since having the update the car is slow to respond while accelerating, we've been back to the dealership for this and were told that there is an issue but no codes are being thrown. The service manager stated that all of the 2022 Taos that have been sold have this problem, they are waiting for a computer fix from Volkswagen, but Volkswagen customer care says they are unaware of this issue. Not sure where to go except to possibly trade out of this potential deathtrap.
I have a 2022 SEL 4motion. I purchased it in December. 7 months later I’m having issues with it. The extreme lag to this car is so unsafe. This is my 5th VW, and I’ve never had issues like this before. I can’t stress how many times I pray I don’t get hit when trying to accelerate the car. It’s mind blowing how slow the pickup is and super unsafe. I’ve had the EPC Light come on 3 weeks ago and now today I’ve had the check engine light on. The infotainment system is so unreliable. Sometimes the screen blacks out completely. The charging area becomes so hot that I have to take my phone off of it and put it elsewhere. When the EPC light came on I was driving on the highway and freaked out when the light came on and the vehicle started slowing down and wouldn’t accelerate as I kept trying to hit the gas pedal. Luckily my son wasn’t in the car. Volkswagen needs to straighten these serious issues out immediately. I will be on the hunt for another car. I don’t feel safe with this vehicle.
Vehicle from time to time without warning stalls. Engine starts shaking and we usually coast to a stop. At this time the check engine light and and other warning lights on. We shut the car off and wait few minutes and restart the car and it works fine as if nothing happened. This is very scary as this has happened 4-5 times in the last year and dealer can’t find anything wrong. This problem started after update to programming that I believe was done after stop sale order.
When pressing on gas peddle, vehicle aggressively jolts forward. This caused me to almost rear end the vehicle in front of me while on the highway as well as be rear ended. While on and in drive Taos appears to have died. Vehicle will not drive and break locks. The break peddle has also locked up twice while driving. Check engine light did appear but shortly turned off. Auto start/stop does not work on app and auto start doesn’t work on key fob either. Multiple times my Taos has “detected” a vehicle in front of me and flashed a warning when there was no vehicle at all. These incidents have occurred over multiple days. At this time I have only owed my Taos for three weeks.
2022 VW TAOS 4 Motion fuel line leak; called for appointment 8/30/21 prior to receiving the Important Safety Recall Letter in mid September when the information was first told of possible fire starting under the car on the internet. First available appointment at the VW dealer was 10/6/21. Needless to say, the VW TAOS was leaking fuel. I was told the car cannot leave the dealer lot. Here, I had been driving the car since purchase 7/15/21 with my grandchildren in the car, not knowing the car was leaking fuel. My dealer had no loaner cars. After contacting VW Care for a week, I was given a rental for 2 weeks only. Now I'm without a car again with no known date when the car will be fixed. The dealer says it could be after the New Year, that they can't get any information from VW Corporation. The VW Corp. parts case manager says the parts will be in no later than 11/5/21, then delivered to the dealer about 7-10 days later, 11/12/21- 11/15/21, with the parts to be installed the day the parts are delivered. Such a discrepancy between the dealer and VW Corporation. VW corp rarely returns calls, when I get a human voice, their answers aren't answers, just words going around in circles reading off a script. Still without a vehicle to drive BUT paid the $397 lease payment each month, BUT NOT PAYING again, and payments must be prorated for the non use of the vehicle. Ready to begin the LEMON LAW process. Will not deal with VW Corp or the local VW dealer ever again. Both leaving me stranded. Bad customer service all the way around. Just want to be rid of the car, and be done with all this aggravation. Have all the 'chats' saved, as well as a log of all correspondence, and repair invoice from the past month.
A stop sale order was placed the following Monday after I signed my lease of the 2022 VW TAOS with 4MOTION. Not only was I not contacted about this safety recall but upon taking it in for severe turbo lag reasons on Sep21 I was informed that it was unsafe to drive and needed to be kept for an undetermined extended period of time with no loaner or rental. I’m paying 500 a month to lease and insure a brand new car that I simply cannot use? It’s unacceptable. VW needs to buy back my car so that I can be in a reliable safe vehicle from somewhere else.
When I depress the accelerator, the car jumps ahead or stalls. I took this to the local dealership and was told this car is on a do not sell list- 1 day after purchase. They, along with VW customer care has advised against driving the vehicle and encouraged it be towed to a dealership. This is my only vehicle and without it I have no transportation. They are unable to provide alternate transportation. I have been working with VW customer care.
