MY 1998 VOLVO S70 HAD THE ABS MODULE FAILED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. HAD THIS FAILED IN RAIN OR SNOW, THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE.*AK FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY VOLVO, BUT THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. THE COST IS OUTRAGEOUS, OVER $600.

THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. MY TECHNICIAN SAYS IT IS A FAULTY ABS CONTROLLER. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL POSTS ON BRICKBOARD.COM IN REFERENCE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT VOLVO HAS RELEASED A CAR WITH AN OBVIOUS DEFECT. *AK

REAR PASSENGER WHEEL SENSOR FOR THE ABS, SHOWS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE SENSOR REPLACEMENT DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE AUTO TECH RESEARCHED FROM A COMMON AUTO TECHNICHIANS WEB PAGE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE S70. THE PROBLEM LAYS WITH A FAULTY COMPUTER ON THE VEHICLES. AS A RESULT THE ABS DOES NOT OPERATE. 1998 VOLVO S70T.

ABS COMPUTER CHIP WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR HAS FEWER THAN 60,000 MILES. THIS COMPONENT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND COST OVER $600 TO REPLACE. I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IF FAILURE OF THE ABS CHIP IS AS COMMON AS I'M TOLD, THEN I BELIEVE VOLVO SHOULD PICK UP THE COST FOR REPLACING THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT IN THEIR VEHICLES.*AK

IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WILL ENGAGE SOMETIMES WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL. (IE. ON ACCELERATING) FOLLOWING THIS, THE "ABS" AND "TRACS" LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN THIS CONDITION PRESENTS ITSELF DURING NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS, THE BRAKES GET "SOFT" FROM ANTI-LOCKING PULSES UNTIL THE COMPUTER FINALLY RECOGNIZES THE ERROR AND REALIZES THAT IN FACT THERE IS NO NEED TO ENGAGE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM, AFTER WHICH REGULAR BRAKING MAY RESUME. DT
I HAD THIS PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED INCORRECTLY AT LAUREL JAGUAR VOLVO OF TINLEY PARK, IL., AT A COST OF $341.00. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I DO NOT THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ADDITIONAL MONEY TO CORRECT A SAFETY PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS. DT
ABS LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME, VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE ABS COMPUTER REPLACED. I WAS TOLD BY VOLVO REPAIR SHOP, THEY ARE GETTING A MINUMUM OF 2-3 A MONTH WITH EXACT SAME PROBLEM DEFECTIVE COMPUTER. DT
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL FAILED. MR
THE VEHICLES ABS MODULE FAILED. *MR VOLVO REFUSES TO COVER PARTS AND LABOR, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS FAILURE WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *SCC
THE ABS CONTROL UNIT FAILED. THE ABS IS DISABLED BY THE FAILURE. A NEW ABS CONTROL UNIT IS ON ORDER AT THE VOLVO DEALER. IT IS COVERED BY WARRENTY. I'M REPORTING THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM IS A SAFETY SYSTEM AND IT SHOULD NOT FAIL DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART. ALTHOUGH NOT VALID FOR YOUR DATA COLLECTION, I CAN SAY I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VOLVO WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MR
