TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 VOLVO S70. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. IN ADDITION, ALL THE LIGHTING AND WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL AND THROTTLE BODY CONTROL MODULE WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.

THEN, SHE RECEIVED RECALL 04V504000 CONCERNING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS. WHEN SHE GOT THE VEHICLE HOME SHE TRIED TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND NOTICED THEY DID NOT WORK. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPAIRED THE HEADLIGHTS. THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED AGAIN FIVE DAYS LATER. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THE HEADLIGHTS. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY AGREED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED NONE OF THE RECALLS INCLUDED THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, AND SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I PURCHASED MY 1999 USED S70 IN JUNE OF 2001. IT HAD APPROX. 47,000 MILES ON IT. WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE LOSS OF SPEED, ETC. WITHIN 1 YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE THE TURBO AND THE WHOLE ENGINE DUE TO MALFUNCTIONS. IN ALL, I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $9,000 IN REPAIRS TO THIS CAR DUE TO ENGINE PROBLEMS. IT HAS BEEN THE ABSOLUTE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. IT HAS ALSO HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS SINCE I PURCHASED. *NM

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, I HAD THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCHED ON. THE INTERIOR DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE LIT AND NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. AS I DROVE INTO A LESS LIGHTED AREA, I NOTICED THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE IN FACT NOT LIT. I CONFIRMED THAT THE SWITCH WAS ON, WHICH THEY WERE. I CONFIRMED THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. LATER, I HAD THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH REPLACED, WHICH FIXED THIS PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. MY VOLVO MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT A DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. I TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 1998 VOLVO S70, BUT NOT THE 1999 VOLVO S70, FOR THIS PROBLEM. HE WAS AMAZED BECAUSE HE SAID THAT BOTH CARS USE THE SAME SWITCH. *PH

RIGHT TURN SIGNAL BULB WAS REPLACED. JUNE 2000, BOTH HEADLIGHTS BURNT OUT. JULY 2000, DEFECTIVE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, ALL POSSIBLY DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE BULB/SOCKETS OF THE LIGHTING SYSTEM. *CJ
